The most unheroic or just plain funny deaths ever from any wargame from the HQ, leader etc.
All I can think of was getting swamped by horde of gaunts with my Inquiistor in termie armour in the middle. After all 40 some attacks I only had to take 3 saves on my Inquiistor (the retinue had absorbed the rest) 3 2+ from surving, I rolled.. . . . all 1s. . . .
The dice gods be fickle. . . .

it would have to be my daemon prince for me, almost every time i field him against guardsmen he slaughters his way through masses of infantry only to finally be brought low by a laspistol shot, or a few times by the last guardsman left in a combat.

I was playing one of the new Kill Team games from Battle Missions. I was catachan with harker and marbo in reserve. I came on the board using "look out he's behind you" and killed 9 genestealers with a demolition charge. I thought with my 2+ envenomed blade i could kill the last two. I didn't realize that they strike first. Got slaughtered haha. That the worst i've got so far. don't play much

My old Chaos Liutenant on bike with 2+ armor always ran into trees. Even after skilled rider checks. He also once blew himself up firing his plasma gun, both wounds.

Demo game with a GW employee. I was Orks and he was Marines. It was down to my Warboss and 2 nobz vs. the tactical squad. Charged 'em, scored 4 hits with the warboss, and failed to wound even once. Yes, really. My nobz managed to kill 1 marine. The marines roll, score 8 hits, and make 7 wounds. Yes, really.

Ouch!
Speaking of imperial assassins when you pay 120pts for a callidus you kinda expect it to kill someone.
But no ran straight into a war walker and was killed in combat by it

You know what a unheroic death is?

I was playing at a GW against a guy who joined the hobby around the same time as me (which wasn't long ago.) I was playing the store's DA army with company champion, assault squad, tactical squad, terminator squad and a land raider. He was playing black templars with a emperor's champion, two Normal squads, all with chain swords and bolt pistols a couples of bikes and something else ( i forgot)

Anyways i had first turn, got all my units to shot, all of them had guns (bolters, plasma pistols, storm bolters, meltaguns, assault cannons etc.)

Anyways, they all shot............One damaged weapon on a bike and about 3 black templars dead. I even got a wound on my company champion from my plasma pistol -.-

His turn resulted in me getting my whole army dead, and my land raider unable to do anything, i even failed miserably in my counters. bah! >: (

Slaanesh lord eith daemon weapon. Shoots with Plasma Pistol at a squad of Sm's in dangerous terrain, gets hot, wounds him. Charges through dangerous terrain, takes a wound. Rolls for attacks, gets a 1, and dies. Stupid chaos codex.

For a while, my 3rd Ed Chaos Lt on a bike had "dangerous terrain tests" as his most probable cause of death. Even after he got the upgrade in 4th edition, so that he comes automatically with "skilled rider", he was still loosing wounds by the bucket load every time he drove over a ditch or a piece of rubble. Dying due to your own action is pretty much the definition of unheroic.

Strangely, this same model fought an Avatar in 4th edition to a standstill for 5 combat phases while on his last wound, making every 5+(I) save he was called on to make before finally being gibbed on the last turn of the game.

Speaking of Avatars... back in 3rd edition, my Avatar was once killed by shooting from a pack of termigants. I can see the headline now... "God of war dies to pack of vermin... Film at 11!"

Back in 3rd Ed I had 2 Ork Bikers ready to go and slaughter a lone Imperial priestly chap armed with a paltry laspistol. It was his turn so he fired those 2 BS 3 S3 shots versus my T4, AS 4+, Ward Save 5+ dudes..............yeah, they died.

Well, back in 3rd Edition I had a Chaplin on a jump pack. He had single-handly destroyed 1000 points of Orks including a warboss but only had one wound left. It was second to the last turn and a group of grots was within range to be assaulted but jumping out of terrain I took dangerous terrain test. Of course I rolled a big fat 1 and he died. What was worse was that his points put the orks up by 1 point for the win.

I sware that he could survive las cannon blasts to the face, power fists blow to the nutz but a damn twig will always kill him.

Not my most unheroic death, but the most unheroic death I caused

Allow me to tell you all the tale of Super-Gaunt (Old nid dex). Running quickly with his brood they are caught in the fire of some dark reapers. His brood is mowed down to the last and low he is outside synapse range! But fear not for he passes both his morale check & instinctive behavior check. Turning his murderous rage into a tool, he notices the farseer charging right for him at the last minute . . .

Savage combat ensues The farseers strikes out with his spear, but Super-Gaunt dodges easily & retaliates with a viscious bite, finding a weakspot in his armor super-gaunt again wounds the farseer. The farseer, inspired by the presence of the avatar dueling a lictor stays to smite Super-gaunt. Again the farseer strikes out & hits Super-Gaunt with an attack, but it barely scratches his side & Super-Gaunts toughness allows him to continue. With adrenaline pumping super-gaunt lashes out with a claw & what luck he has as the farseer falls, chocking on his own blood.

Super-Gaunts victory would not last however, the avatar, though wounded by the lictor, has triumphed and is headed straight for the zoanthropes. Still angered by the death of his brood Super-gaunt steadies his fleshborer & hits home directly into the avatar causing it to shriek in pain. As the avatar turns around it swipes at Super-Gaunt who has leapt into the air straight toward the avatar.
The avatars attacks miss but Super-Gaunt would not be so forgiving. He lands on the avatars face with teeth & claws of fury, felling the foul being in one swoop. Disheartened by this the dark reapers are unaware of the genestealers charging down their flank . . .

tl;dr I had a Termagaunt brood get shoot down to 1 model, pass its Ld test, get assaulted by a farseer, kill it, Pass an IB test, Shoot & wound an avatar, then assault & kill it.

When I have the time I am painting him in a super-man costume so I can tell this story every time someone says "WFT?"

Not a HQ kill, a 3rd ed stormtrooper Sargent that belonged to my friend. Punches a hive tyrant over and then flees from a hormagaunt and gets SA'd. Come to think of it, his stormie sarges had a very low life expectancy as there was also Sargent Norman Cheesepuff, the guy who kills a large squad of combat troops and dies to his PP

I got two good ones... oddly enough both to the same poor eldar Player.

First game I've played against Eldar ever. Im using Tau. I figure hey I can shoot those 5 howling banshees with Farseer dead before they get the charge on my broadise team... after emptying an entire turn of shooting at the 6 Elves running up my flank I manage to kill everything but the exarch and seer. next turn he gets the charge into the broadsides... i grimace expecting unrelenting carnage... dude missed ALL his attacks. At this point my broads swing back reducing the Exarch to 1 wound...then the Shield drone which has no reason to still be alive. killed her. Frisbee of doom 1....Angry screaming she-elf...zero. Never got to kill the seer though, combat dragged on for 3 more turns.

Second time I played the eldar player. I had a Piranha contesting an objective, that he was also contesting with a vyper.... I had no intention of surviving long enough to have that matter as I wis in LOS of 3 D-cannon batteries and I am not making 3 4+ saves...Well He shoots his first template scatters off target, the next one lands on my skimmer, and the 3rd lands on his vyper. one guess which skimmer made its 4+ save and which skimmer died.

lol eldar, for all there knowledge....

Fire Warriors strike back with the fury of Genestealers, getting a half dozen wounds.

During the 4th ed tyranid codex three squads of genestealers charged and glanced a chaos land raider to death. In a recent game Typhus Herald of Nurgle from the CSM army was killed by 11 freshly spawned termagaunts shooting and assaulting it. In a different CSM game a chaos lord took his last wound from four gaunts shooting fleshborers. Lastly a chaos lord in terminator armor being killed from full wounds to zero by the only remaining heavy bolter on an immobilized leman russ.

Edit: I meant genestealers in the first line, I always call them genies

Ouch. You win!

My Psyker Battle Squad has failed every test it's been required to take for their powers; meaning they have killed more of themselves than the enemy. The only test they have ever passed was a break test after falling out of an exploding tank... directly into the line of fire of Kroot.

Most hilarious one, going the other way, was back in 2nd Ed when plant missiles were still available. 3 Terminator squads bunched up, sneaking through a forest to get close to my 'stealer cult. 1 plant missile later, they were standing in the open when 40 brood brothers opened fire with lasguns and killed them to a man.

About a year ago, my Chaos Daemons squared off against a Grey Knights army in a small local tournament. His commander, a GK Grandmaster, tried to face off against Ku'Gath (the GUO special character).

The Grandmaster carved his way across the table, wading through a good dozen lesser daemons, but wasn't....quite....able....to make the charge. FatBoy(tm) flashed the finest dental work England has to offer, and lumbered over to finish things.

At this point, I should point out that at the beginning of each of my shooting phases, Ku'Gath automatically hits every enemy model within 6" with a strength 2 hit. Silent? Yes. Deadly? Not usually.

The Grey Knight Grandmaster, veteran of thousands of battles, slayer of countless minions of the Ruinous Powers, bearer of the consecrated Terminator Armor of his chapter.....promptly died to a well-timed warpfart.

Playing the Attacker in a team Planetstrike game (Chaos Marines and Daemons vs. Space Marines and IG), my 270 point Lord of Change pops up in the "back" corner of their army and my Keeper of Secrets is not too far off. Turn 1, an 80 point Penal Legion Squad walks on to the board and scores 5 wounds on the Lord of change with their shooting (10 lasguns). Saves: 1, 1, 1, 1, 2. Some allied Grey Knights charge the Keeper later that turn. I miss EVERY attack. He gets chopped down. Worst turn I've ever had in any game, ever.

The boyz piled in and at the start of my turn i warped the surviving warrior(including the others who hadn't stood upa nd ahd stood up) to a monolith(it made the leadership test on double ones so was still in CC).I put 7 scarab bases in a semi circle 'behind'(on there side of board not mine) the boyz, and dropped two pie plates from the other two liths in them. Needless to say, they fell back, and got trapped, unable to avoid the scarabs without doubling back. 60 boyz destroyed 9 warriors, then all died.

Well, speaking of nightbringer. In Fourth Edition, my 10 SM snipers pick out Nightbringer on first turn. 10 hits, 10 wounds and all the armor saves failed. The resulting explodsion wipes out 25 warriors.

On thrid turn three wraths die from Whirlwind mines. Then on forth turn one scout at max range destroys a Monolith with a krak missile. Almost made them phase out. It was a game of unheroric deaths but epic kills.

Well, my wife was playing WFB against the same guy and his Black Coach got a first turn assault on a group of Brit Knights Errant. The Coach failed to wound then was chased down and destroyed. EPIC FAIL!

For those WFB guys~
I used to run the Skaven Warlord Pipsqueek the fierce. He had a 3+ armor save, a 4+ ward, and weeping blade. 4 str 5 attacks, which can cause d3 wounds. He had been the savour of gamesday for me killing dragon's, lords, multiple wound models, and I developed a "always take the challenge" fun mode with him. He'd died a couple times, but always in a fun kinda way.

I head to a tournment where I draw 2 vampire players in a row. Facing hordes and hordes of undead units. He and is valiant stormvermin fought their way head on (me in my surprise it worked 2 games in a row) only to fall so short of the win, earning draws in both games. In both games, he had actually killed vampire lords in combat, but the game always resulted in a draw.

The reason: a 50 pts magic item called the brass orb. It scatters like a stone thrower, but if it hits it is a magical small blast where the models underneath take a initiative check or area dead. Vampires and their undead have crap for initiative. This wonderful little item sat in the hands of a Warplock Engineer named "Shifty." If you roll a misfire on the scatter attempt (scatter dice+artillery) the blast is centered over the thrower.

Game1: turn 5 Lord Pipsqueek just finishes off the vampire, and is at full wounds! Shifty see's a unit of grave guard who have killing blow, he throwers, misfire, and he's standing right next to Pipsqueek. I take the look out sir, I roll a 1, failure... i take his initiative check, he's initiative 7, can only fail on a 6, I roll a 6. BANG... DEAD. Comically I pass the lock out sir for the unit champ, and Shifty. Final result: both generals dead, VPs pull a draw. Lots of laughter from me and my opponent.

Game 2: I am smart, I put shifty in his own unit of clan rats. Keeping him on the other side of the board from Pipsqueek. Turn 5. Pipsqueek fighting away in a combat, losing, has a wound, fighting graveguard. Old skaven rules, Shify hurles that brass orb at the grave guard, scatter, bang, right on Pipsqueeks head. DANG!~ look out sir, rolls a 1, initiative checks, rolls a 6. F-ME! BANG, DEAD.

I have ever since sworn off using the Brass Orb. Pipsqueek is no more as you cannot have a 4+ ward save in skaven any long, His nice purty model, is now a stormvermin champion.

4th edition, game easily wrapped up.

I'm playing Chaos against my friend's Sister's army.

A dominion unit drops down in front of me out of an immolater, and fires four meltas at my Defiler with a mutated hull, a few hit but no serious damage. I shake off a result and lose a CC attack.

Instead of charging the unit on my next turn, I decide to drop a battlecannon on their neat little circle and of course it scatters back 7 inches directly on it's face.

Pen 6 (versus 13 armor), Ordnance 6 and the rest is history.

I think I gave him the game, even though I was about to win.

Similarly in Gorkamorka; in the first game the gang's only trukk has a head on ram in the second or third turn. It was disabled, and post game rolled a "destroyed" result meaning it was literally only scrap. (2D6 teef or something). :(

@ njpc - that's what you get for playing Skaven. I've seen my general's unit poisoned by an inaccurate poison wind globadier and flee the table. Running away seems to be a frequent tactic employed by skaven units. They are pretty good fun even when the Doomwheel runs wild squashing your own units or the Bell bursts the eardrums of all your rats.

Maugen Ra got turned into a Squig!

8 BT assault marines inc chaplain had to land in trees to get the charge on an enemy unit.

I roll 4 ones on their dangerous terrain test, inc 1 one the chaplain and powerfist.

I cursed the fickle dice.

Question about the second one, I thought a monolith couldn't be glanced to death? Krak missiles can't pen against it's armor.

Turn two in the second round of the tournament I played this past Saturday, my vanilla marines libby was safely ensconced in his razorback and in line of sight of a 1k-Sons squad hunkering down on an objective. I whipped out Null Zone at the start of shooting and roll a 4 - awesomesauce! Those 4+ invulnerables are so going down!

Next, I drop Vortex of Doom on his bunched up models for AP1 killiness and roll box-cars. First things being first, he takes the Perils wound for a lack of an invulnerable save. Next, the template drops on top of his transport. The opponent rolls a 3 for penetration, followed by a 6, and cries, "Tzeentch protects!" I'm thinking 'no biggie' - S4 hits, AP- on marines. He rolls 6 wounds and everyone saves - except the libby. His last wound expended, the Librarian takes his shame with him to the grave.

Interestingly enough, the heavy bolter that was in the razorback with him ended up being the last man alive in the squad and inflicted casualties every round to the end of the game.

Well, it was one of my b reports but to repeat;

I had a Lone Wolf run across the board, survive Oblit fire, bolters, etc. Tzeentch Prince is only 2 inches away in terrain and my Lone Wolf is finally ready to avenge himself. Terrain test = double 1s. Next turn he promptly gets turned into a Spawn by the Demon Prince. He then proceeds to turn around and eat 4-5 Grey Hunters.

A lone marine....trying to avenge his fallen battle brothers....becomes a spawn....that eats more battle brothers.......

THE RULEBOOK WARNED ME IT WAS GRIM DARK. I HAD NO IDEA HOW GRIM DARK IT WAS.

First of all my Warlock Engineer blows himself up this panics the Grey Seer and Stormvermin Bodyguard so they leg it off the board. Then I stand and shoot at a lone Glade Rider champion with a Warpfire Thrower- Misfire in the resultant blast a regiment of Clan Rats, a regiment of Giant Rats and another Warlock Engineer decide to leg it of the board. Finally to cap it off my Gutter Runners have their turrets collapse on top of them.........Great Game actually.......

In WHFB I saw an all Night Goblin army run off the board on the first turn when the Skaven opponent rang his Screaming Bell.

All those Ld5 Gobbos had to make tests or run.

One unit of archers remained for the Goblin player. He conceded the game without ever even moving a model forward on the table.

Low-point game, I think it was 1000 points...

I turbo-boosted a Necron Destroyer Lord (T6, 3+ cover save) toward on of my opponent's vindicators (yes multiple vindicators at 1000 points ), poised to rip it apart the following turn.

He shoots at it with a ML-armed dev squad. Nothing.

The vindicator takes a shot: Nothing.

A group of bolter-armed tacmarines from about a foot and a half away take their measly 10 bolter shots. 8 hits, 3 wounds (wounding on a 6!), and I failed every save... I pretty much had to ragequit once I failed my WBB roll.

1/54 if you count the 2/3rds hit rate.

I always think it's funny to see people complain about Necron auto-glances in 3/4E, where our warriors had a 1/54 chance per shot to kill an LR. So OP, right? (For the record , 360 points worth of warriors shooting in rapid fire range only has a 53% chance of popping the LR. They also only have a 53% chance of popping a rhino under those conditions, and that's even assuming that all 20 warriors magically survive the slogging within a foot on an LR. More realistically, 20 shots at 24 inch range only has a 32 inch shot. Even more realistically (since Warriors are a liability) 10 shots have a 17% chance of pulling this off.

Playing against my father. He already grew to HATE my ionheads so he was gunning for them with his Chapter Master. I managed 2 wounds on him as he closed, and he then charged my cornered Ionhead with his relic blade armed CMaster. He rolled a 6 and got a Pen hit, rolled a 6 again, Kaboom! I managed to roll high enough to wound him on the explosion and naturally, he rolled a 1 and went out with the Ionhead.
Not really unheroic as he still nailed the IH, but pretty funny. He still enjoyed blowing the thing up even losing his CM in the process.

Ragnar Blackmane goes up against a Shas'O and his retinue. Ragnar eats the retinue, but fails to kill the Shas'O. Shas'O uses vectored retro-thrusters, and disengages with one wound remaining. He opens fire on Ragnar, dropping two wounds off of him with a burst cannon and a Plasma Rifle. Far-off Hammerhead fires, Ragnar dodges. Ragnar returns fire, and takes last wound off of Shas'O. Shas'O ejects, and is just far enough away to be out of assault range. Shas'O fires single shot from pulse pistol, and Ragnar drops like a stone.
Damn the dice. Able to dodge a shell that travels so fast it ignites the air, yet gets killed by a sidearm.

This didn't happen TO me but against me.

First tournament I ever played in I was running Tau back in 3rd. A Chaos Lieutenant with a Daemon weapon and 2+ armor charged a squad of 10 Fire Warriors in cover.
He rolls a 1 with his Daemon weapon to take a wound and not attack, I attack back and he fails the one wound I do.

Fire Warriors > Chaos Lieutenant
Probably one of the craziest things in 40k I've ever seen.
I ended up winning the game and the tourney.

That's not so much an unheroic death on the part of Ragnar so much as it is utter bad-assery on the part of the Shas'O.

I would buy a Ragnar kit then and there put his axe on the base of the Shas'O.

The guy won the campaign undefeated, I was by far the closest to winning and nearly won my first 3 games which were so close. 1st Phased out due to game continuing to T7 while 1-0 on objectives, 2nd was that and 3rd a unit in combat with me held an objective in the middle while I couldn't contest.

One time he and another Space Marine Commander (it was an allied game) fought our way into the enemy base, only to discover that they had garrisoned a unit of Fire Dragons inside a building without telling us (I was a noob at the time so I didn't say anything). 2. Lysander getting killed in close combat by a guard sgt with a chainsword and laspistol.

3. the master of the fleet pulling his laspistol out and administering the kill shot to vulkan after vulkan wiped out the autocannon squad

4. Vendetta strafing the LR crusader and doing a victory roll after the LR's fuel cell goes up, taking 4 TH-SS termies with it

5. Pask shooting Typhus in the face with an AT shell and splattering his pus ridden corpse all over hs retinue

....LOVE the Guard!

This isn't really unheroic but rather a story of heroic guardsmen. My Veterans were in cover charged by a Space Wolf IC (which one is unimportant -- any of them should be able to take out a vet squad.)

What? It's in termie armour? I go first! Guardsmen save the day!

I only remember this because even though my partner and I were already trouncing our opponent, I couldn't help but do a high-five because of their spunk and felt a bit bad about it cause next turn, turn 4 we tabled them.

I just mentioned this one in another thread but its pretty epic in reguards of youve got to be kidding me.

I had a warboss on a bike charge a LR (Forgetting about the 6 inch move means rolling 6s to hit) I paniced because I knew the whole army was going to shoot him to death. The Librarian popped out and shot, saved, LR redeemer shot all that could hit me, saved everything, a full tactical squad unloaded, saved, a devastator squad same thing, saved all that was left was a razor back with H bolter/storm bolter. I laughed because I just new at least one of those would fail. The Hbolter fired, misses and rerolls hits, and the storm bolter hits both. I failed all three of those saves and died.

EPIC

Oh my god I dont think Id even mention that.

I had another incredibly funny one happen in 4th. Back then you had a SMALL chance of blowing up a vehicle on a glance. So I was Chaos, opponent was SM. It just happened that both our dreds had not only been on the same side of the table, but just finished making squishy things die. So I charged my dred into his dred. They pummeled one another, with me on the short en d of the stick. I was immobilized and had no CC weapon, and only a bolter left on the thing. So he, gloating, turned his back to me and marched on to kill more stuff. So I have just a strong enough weapon to get a glance on his rear armor. Scored a glance, and rolled a damn 6.
I blew that friggin thing up with an immobilized dred that only had a bolter left. It was hilarious, we seriously cried laughing for a good 6 minutes.

But anyways, you want epic? Try this.

The MK2 version of one of my old captain models (this being the first time this rendering of him was fielded) was eventually down to one wound with his command squad dead. He had several squads shooting at him. Remember now, he was on ONE wound. UNO. SINGLE. NON PLURAL (you get the idea). He then made 17 consecutive 3+ armour saves. On the 18th, which might have just been a random dice that wasn't even part of the firing (although we counted it as it was) and yeppers, he failed it. But he scared the hell out of my opponant (everything in the SM army does that to necrons. It was APOC and I wiped everything in his army out save an untouched nightbringer. I won 2 obj. to none).

Well, I have several stories.

-The worst death on my side was a game of 3rd edition, I had Cypher and his squad charge a squad of guardsmen, lost the assault, morale check failed and they ran, only to be overran by the enemy catching up. WHAM! Cypher with no wounds on him and 7 CSMs died just like that.

-I had some Raptors attack my ratlings that were on top of a building. The Ratlings won the assault and killed every member of the Raptor squad down to the last man.

-A Bloodthirster decided to go squad hopping, wiping out every squad he assaulted of course. My mortar team fired lasguns into him because he couldn't quite make it into assault with them. They killed him with the mighty lasgun.

-A seer council decided to to assault some sentinels of mine, 2 sentinels exploded out of the squad. Seer council was killed by the detonation of 2 sentinels.

I was playing guard vs. SM and they had Calgar in a 5 man termie squad. I had a 20-man IG infrantry squad w/ 16 lasguns, 2 LP and 2 GL. Used FRFSRF on Calgar's squad, killed 2 termies and Calgar took...wait for it.....3 wounds. Next turn Calgar failed a dt test and 16 of the said guardsmen died from a trio of whirlwinds. Next turn, the four guardsmen charged at the termies, killing all three termies and Calgar. Those guardsmen got a promotion.

Nuther time, I had Yarrick running up a hill. Got shot by a mob of 30 shoota boys and survives. Next turn, trips over and hits his head on a rock. Dies.

A single guard sarge charges a trygon on two wounds. Kills it instantly, then fends of 30 gaunts with just 3 guardsmen helping him, all of whom died. Now he's my platoon commander. Somehow he always fails saves if hes wearin carapace armour but in flak hes lucky.

But my favourite time, some vets chuck a demo at an obliterator squad, it bounces of a rock and lands on a valkyrie carrying another squad of demo vets. The demo blows up the valk, blows up that squads demo (sometimes I play using a rule where if the carrier of a OSO explosive is killed role a d6, on 3+ that blows up using normal weapons stats, VERY annoying if a deathstrike is blown up) kills 160 points worth of vets and downs a valk. The valks blast kills 6 guardsmen from a nearby squad. 310 points down in an instant. Ouch.

This isnt an unheroic death, but I think its pretty appropriate.

We were playing a game where my brother was a meked up SM army, lead by a LR with some assault terminators in it. We made the terrain pretty tight to look like a ruined city. Well the fastest way to my Orks was threw a small pile of difficult terrain.....basically we ran out of things to use so we put a skull there and said it was this wide by this wide.
His LR proceeds to run over the tiny little skull and fails his difficult terrain test. So this GIGANTIC LR with an army stuck behind it....was immobilized blocking the only short cut. It was full of failure and damn funny to see it sitting on a skull and be "stuck"

About 6 months ago I started a thread titled, "What was your most satisfying kill?" I pulled two of my posts from that thread as there seems to be a strong correlation between a satisfying kill to one player and an embarrassing death to the other.

Grunt13 wrote:
What was your most satisfying kill?

For me the best thing about facing Tau is killing the ethereal. There was one Tau player I gamed against where we had this running gag about how he would have to summit a request form to Tau’va for another ethereal after his died; this would require his commander to explain the fate of the previous Ethereal. I would actually tactically disadvantage myself to take these guys out. I kept making the joke that eventually they were just going to cut him off and stop sending Ethereals to their deaths.

I have killed Ethereals using the following means:
Barbequed by fire dragons.
Picked to the bone by scarabs
Crunched into a ball by a wraithlord
Hooked on slave snares
Eaten by zombies
Cut down by a lascannon
Mind warred by a farseer

Afterwards we would create the mock dialog between the commander and the Ethereal Supply Center:
Commander: “Yeah, I need another Ethereal”
Center: “What!?! What we just sent one to you, what happened to him?”
Commander: (Sheepishly) “ Um, he was swarmed by metal insects and reduced to a skeleton”
Or
“We were fighting the eldar and his head just exploded”
Or
“Well a skimmer flew by and it had these chains that caught him, and well they just flew away with him”
Or
“Zombies, the less you know the better”

But the all time best was when I was playing my EC and I turned his Ethereal into a spawn. My opponent argued that since his ethereal wasn’t actually killed, but transformed his units should not suffer their moral break tests. I agreed with this, proclaiming that it was fine with me that they would take the tests after I forced them to beat their ethereal to death. I made sure he ate a bunch of them first.

The dialog was along the lines of:
Commander: “Yeah, this might come as a shock but I need another Ethereal”
Center: “Awe hell no, no way am I sending you another ethereal. What are you doing over there; you know you are expected to protect these guys right? I have to look them in the eyes when I transfer them over to you, what happened?
Commander: “We were fighting these pink and purple space marines and a large four-arm creature burst from one of them and pointed at the ethereal. The blessed one transformed into a hideous screeching beast thing and proceeded to kill and eat his bodyguards – the firewarriors had to beat him to death with their pulse rifles, trust me it was a mercy killing”
Center: (Weeping)

The next game I had against the tau player I was disappointed to see that he didn’t field an Ethereal. When I question the absence he shrugged his shoulders and said the center finally cut him off, they refused to send any more ethereals to their inevitably deaths - the chaos spawn was the straw that broke the camels back. "

Spawning an etheral and then forcing his own army to beat the tau leader to death was a great moment for me, but defiantly falls under an unheroic death on my opponents part.

Grunt13 wrote:
Necromunda - Long

In Necromunda I played scavvies, my gang used plague zombies and had two huge mutant lizard guys called scalies (Phobos and Deimos). One was my favorite tricks was to have one of my zombies walk off a high catwalk and land on my opponents models. The fall inflicted a strength hit equal to the distance fallen in inches, so a fall from the third story inflicted a strength 9 hit. The model my guy lands on has a 4+ chance of getting crushed along with him. I found myself confronted by space marines and genestealers, I didn’t play 40K at this time, but knew enough about them to know that I should be intimidated about fighting them with my poorly armed and trained sewer people.

I get picked up into a game with 3 guys I didn’t know. I was “partnered” with a standard gang and one of our opponents played 3 space marines and the other 3 genestealers. Necromunda allowed for 2nd edition 40K to be incorporated into the game, all you had to do is multiply the price of the 40K unit by ten to get the necromunda price. A lot of people would refuse to play against such things as space marines, genestealers, or spyrers because they were viewed as gang killers and the opponent didn’t take the same risk of losing beloved characters to the battle– results in a game carried through and your guys could get injured or killed, so the game was a little more serious than typical wargames.

The three genestealers rushed towards me covering an insane distance and scavies where generally poor at shooting. My scaly Phobos who bravely position himself in a vanguard position threw a tox bomb at two of the genestealers – the guy then states that the genestealers are immune to the weapon (tox bombs hurt models with respirators in the necromunda, its more of an acid attack then a gas, but I didn’t challenge). They then take out Phobos and proceed towards my gang. My combined gunfire down one out of the duo and Ringworm (all my scavies where named after diseases) bravely stands on ground level plugging ineffectual shots at the advancing tyranid – he played the role of bait.

My ace in the hole was a zombie standing on the top floor of a building above the genestealer who was right under the building edge. I surprise the three guys I was playing against by marching the ghoul off the building in an attempt to body slam the tyranid. The genestealer player defiantly didn’t see this coming and started arguing about my ability to do such a thing. I told him it was clearly in the rulebook and he took the hit on a 4+. He didn’t like this and stated that it was obliviously an initiative test. I told the group this wasn’t my first zombie drop and I was sure it was based on a 4+, the other player was just as sure it was based on initiative. I spent like 5 minutes flipping through my rulebook but I could not find the rule (this always happens to me in disputes). Well the two other guys rule with their friend and the genestealer player takes his initiative test and rolls a 6. The model is wounded and goes down, then my opponent starts saying that he actually passes because the genestealer had an initiative of 7. I was however, able to find the rule that a roll of a 6 always fails and the bug stays down. The guy looked like he was going to have a hissy fit, but was just able to contain himself.

The genestealer was now downed. A downed model has a chance of recovering, but is automatically removed if an enemy model moves into contact with it. Ringworm runs up to it and takes it out of action leaving one genestealer for my army to contend with. My opponent looks like he is coming apart at the seams but is just able to hold himself together. Because I am a bit a dramatic person in these situations and I enjoy provoking people I act out the scene using a slurring, mutant, inbred ghoul voice, “Thiisss is for Phooo - bos, Bang, Bang, Bang” while making the gun gesture towards the floor. It took the rest of my gang dog piling the bug to pull down the last genestealer (about 12 models including zombies); I only lost a few zombies to it.

The space marine player blasted the other player to bits (think turkey shoot) and then turns his guns towards me. My remaining scaly had a spear gun, which is my all time favorite weapon. It was basically a bolt thrower which inflicts a strength 6 hit and would carry a model D6 inches backwards with the possibility of taking more damage if the model hits a wall or better yet gets taken off an elevated position. The marine player argues that his huge marine would not be carried by the spear - I responded that my ogryn sized scalies don’t have spear immunity nor should his guys – my logical was impeccable and the group conceded the point. The huge, power-armored, super human takes the bolt to the chest and gets flung off his perch. So, I take out one of the marines by impaling him and dropping him from a three-story height and then hide the rest of my army behind cover. The marine player taunts me and tries to provoke me to charging across no-man land to his two man gun line, I decline, but invite him to come to me. The game is called and my army wanders away leaving the two space marines in their building. Well my sewer boys take out 3 genestealers and a space marine, which in the Necromunda setting was pretty major. Phobos lucked out and rolled impressive scars instead of getting crippled or killed.

Having genestealers and space marines die at the hands of my degenerate mutants was pretty embarrassing to the my opponents especially considering that I was a newbie at the time with less then a dozen games under my belt, and the manner in which they ganged up on me with their super monsters/soldiers. Having a genestealer get taken out by my belly-flopping zombie from three stories up is still one of my fondest gamer memories.

Opponent gets first turn and fires an ordnance shot at land Raider as his first shot of the game and gets a pen. 6 on the ordnance tables destroying the tank and killing everyone on board.

Priceless...

Back when third edition just came out I killed a Bloodthirster with mandrakes right after it took possession of a lord. This was back when the GD was pretty weak with only a 5+ invulnerable save. The daemon emerged and I had my 6 mandrakes appear behind the bloodthirster. They fired their pistols and assaulted. The daemon was slain before it could even land a blow. Because this occurred on top of the hill we played it off as my mandrakes pushing the daemon down the hill when it was distracted with its back to them. The fall was apparently fatal to the daemon. So after killing a champion of chaos to enter the battlefield the Greater Daemon is instantly slain in fairly pathetic manner.

Game 1 - The sanguinor takes 2 wounds from IG tank fire... to avoid death, he jumped into a building via his jump pack. Rolled 1 for Dangerous terrain... That's right... 275pt model died because he flew into a wall...

Game 2 - The sanguinor takes 2 wounds from long fang lascannon fire, It took 3 turns for the sanguinor to reach the long fangs, starting up his attacks killed the sargent and 3 of the 6 long fangs.. the sanguinor then died from a hand to hand attack from a lascannon.... however.. on the upside.. i had the sargent who was blessed kill logen in CC ;p

Maxed out squad of Kroot and Hounds (no Kroot Ox), assaults a unit of necron warriors. I botch my to-hits and get about 10. Of those 2 wound and he saves them both. He turns around, kills one kroot, I fail leadership, roll for sweeping advance....1. My Kroot were sweeping advanced by Necron Warriors...

Another VERY un-heroic death happened in a game against me. It was a big battle of 'Nids vs. Blood Angels (played as vanilla marines before the BA dex) and my nids were about to reach his line and my carnifex (previous book) was almost within charge distance. Well he has a Chaplain with jump pack/powerfist that was hiding in some cover. He decided to move him around the flank to hit the Carni after he charges some front line units. He jumped him from one pile of difficult terrain to another, fails BOTH dangerous terrain tests. He is now known as Chaplain Knievel.

My favorite unheroic moment was when I had a single HWS guardsman against 5 orks in CQC. He had four attacks against him and I rolled two 5's and two 6's for armor saves. I proceeded to wound o0ne ork who failed and then ran down the unit!

And in classic cruel irony fashion, he was shot by Grots the next turn and dies from 8 Blasta shots

The Land Raider Vigilance rolled forth, crushing under its mighty treads the ruins of what had once been a school within a calm and peaceful city. Though that peace had long be shattered, even now a pair of bright lances thudded harmlessly off the Vigilance’s Blessed Hulls. As it rounded a corner a thing of the warp was to greet them. Standing taller than even a dreadnaught, the Avatar of Khaine roared out at the large tank. The Vigilance’s twin linked assault cannons roared to life, but to no avail as the Daemon shrugged off the hail of anti armor bullets. With a pray to the Emperor the crew of the Vigilance opened fire with the Crusader’s assortment of Hurricane Bolters. The Avatar’s savage war cry suddenly fell silent under the hail of holy bolter fire. The explosive rounds finding purchase within the Daemon construct, and tearing the foul thing asunder. The Avatar of Khaine crumbled and shattered to add to the ruins about its feet.

this was a WTF moment indeed, having no other choice, seeing as the Avatar is immune to the Multi Melta, I fired the Assault Cannon, and sighed as it failed to do anything. so in an act of desperation I fired both sets of the Crusader's Hurricanes at double tab range, 10 hits, 9 wounds, 5 passed 3+ saves, 4 failed. though this is not the most epic fail moment that included my crusader.

Desperate times called for desperate measures, standing within perfect distance to tear the heart out of the Black Templar rush, the Blood Thirstier had to be stopped. At its feet laid the remains of Crusader Squads Luvarius and Tivrus, with a mighyt roar of its engines, the Vigilance plowed forward over the ruins of a shine to chaos. Seemingly even the Machine Spirit of the great war machine was angered by the lost of its Chapter's Brothers. All of its weapon systems remained off as it screeched forth far faster than the crew within would have normally pushed the machine. So fast in fact that it would catch the Blood Thirstier off guard, barely having time to bring its great axe crashing into the side of the Land Raider. The Space Marines were thrown from their controls by the force of the blow, and for a sickening moment it seemed they had been stopped. This was not to be the case, with a final howl of its engine, as if yelling its malice and well deserved hatred towards the daemon, the Machine Spirit refused to give in. with a sharp scream of agony and contorting metal the great servant of Khorne was crushed, and then spat out in chunks of flesh resembling ground hamburger from under the Land Raider’s treads. The Land Raider “snarled” as it reved around to spill forth its crew of Assault Terminators, whom driven by the actions of their transport slammed into the ranks of befuddled Bloodletters close by.

this had to be the most epic fail I have ever seen in all of my gaming (other than a game a played where I just rolled 1' and 2's all game). the Blood Thirstier obviously auto hit the raider, but when he rolled for damage, he got a 2, and seeing as my raider had extra armor, he went splat under the treads.

BT Raiders seem to be some of the meanest ones I have ever played, never before have I seen a Crusader do so well when I was playing Codex Marines.

Lost a Daemon Prince on turn one. One Chimera's shooting, 3 Multilaser shots and 3 Heavy Bolter shots, all hit, 5 wounded, failed 4 saves...DP dead on turn 1 from one Chimera's shooting.

Another one...this occurred during the final game of my FLGS' Escalation League. My Codex Marines vs. Nids (old dex). There are two objectives on the table. I'm holding mine and contesting his. It's his turn 7, and he parks a Hive Tyrant right next to my objective to try and contest. My turn 7, the final turn of all final turns, I tank shock the Hive Tyrant off of the objective with a Rhino and my opponent attempts a Death Or Glory! End result: Hive Tyrant Pancake. He weapon destroyed the Rhino and got run over.

My Dark Eldar have a Crucible of Malediction, which is an anti-psyker piece of wargear used once per game. Enemy psykers take leadership - if you fail, they are removed from play.

Saturday at a tournement, a rune priest disappeared from the table without comment. A couple weeks ago, a Tyranid player quietly removed his Hive Tyrant without firing a shot.

I'm still hoping to peg Eldrad one day.

My group decided to play a 400 point narrative campaign. I decided it might be a good chance to use my Warphead and Shokk Attack Gun Mek, as they'd never see use in normal games.
The army had two mobs of boyz as well as the HQs. Turn 2, game 1, my Warphead gets 'eadbang with his shoota mob. I re-roll, get 'ere we go. Scatter double sixes off the board, and am destroyed by the mishap table. Over half my points gone without any input from my opponent. Ouch.

The gretchin in my Ork horde have twice accounted for Vulkan He'stan's demise, and have recently added that fool Dante to their card.

At one point, I had Kharn the Betrayer killed due to a scattering Vindicator shot.

And the Betrayer became the Betrayed.

Turn 2, Hive Tyrant charged by 5 fiends of Slaanesh. Takes 2 wounds.

Turn 4, Tries to cast Leech essence, . -1 wound
Turn 5, Tries to cast Leech essence, . Dead

We both laughed. I'd have been more upset if I hadn't basically tabled him turn 4, and it had been double 1s instead of 6s.

Not me personaly but funny:

Last turn of the game: Thousand Sons sorcerer has to kill an ork truck to capture an objective and tie the match. The sorcerer succeed in blowing up the truck gets wonded in the resulting explosion and fails his armour save. Game ends SM+Orks 1 - CSM 0

Not one of my models dying but my opponents.

At a flgs tournament last weekend, my opponent had his Necron army. Two units of 15 warriors, 5 immortals, some destroyers and heavy destroyers and the Nightbringer.

He deployed first and placed warriors near 2 objectives on his side, one on each side of his board edge, with the nightbringer and immortals supporting. All destroyers were in reserves. 2 turns go by with the Nightbringer getting closer to our armies. It was at this point my ally reminded me that my hormagaunts had toxin sacs.

Without fear in our next turn, I charged them in. Due to the distance I only got 9 close enough to attack. In one turn of combat, before his blows were even struck, the Nightbringer went down to 9 gaunts.

To make it worse, before the charge, I had my Tyrant cast Paroxysm on him just to make it easier.

I felt so bad for my opponent when his face dropped. Later telling my friends also in the tournament. It was agreed that I was acted like a complete ass for doing that.

Wrong. It's a tournament, you're MEANT to use any advantage you have. His fault for not reading your list beforehand, asking what toxin sacs were and finding out they're poisoned (4+).

Then maybe he would've killed them first.

Totally fair play, and if your friends think you were a complete ass for doing that, then that's bs. They're just feeling sorry for the guy who lost 360pts because he didn't read your list.

Besides, taking the Nightbringer is about the worst thing you can do in a Necron army..

Belial with Squad, DS'd in perfectly, shot a little not much happened then got assaulted by howling banshees. The banshees killed the whole squad, leaving only him alive just so he could miss all his attacks against them and die to no retreat wounds. :(

In a 2000 point game of WHFB, with my Orcs versus a friends WoC, Grimgor Ironhide got destroyed by 1 single shot from a Doomcannon. Before he even got a chance to kill 1 marauder. It hurt. Bad.

A good third of my counts-as-blood-angels jump-pack shooty army killed themselves with their own plasma guns over the course of two turns. For those first two turns, I had the highest kill count of everyone in that 2-on-2 game.

I was playing Kill Team with my imperial guard, and all 10 of my vets died to some Ymargl Genestealers. Only my Armoured Sentinel was left. It managed to kill 3 of the 8 at range. Oh no! they get close and assault. I manage to kill 3 more before my sentinel succumbed to the 10 or so penetrating hits. It took 8+ combat phases.

First time I ran a Power Klaw Warboss. I was new to the game and didn't quite get all of the stats. Apparently, Initiative caused me trouble that night. Warboss vs. Chaos Dread. Splat. End of story.
