Well, I've just started playing Malifaux, I've had my death Marshalls for a while but I thought I'd post up my progress with my Guild Crew and some other models, enjoy!

The two models I've finished, Judge and a Death Marshall (Malyce)-

The models I have left to paint (Currently) Lady Justice and two Death Marshalls-

An outcast model (Rusty Alyce) I painted a while back, she'll be part of my archanist crew when I can get enough saved to buy them... I have Ramos as well so he'll be on the blog soon too ^^-

Thanks for looking, if you have could you please comment and criticism is encouraged as I want to make these guys look as good as I can get them....

Finished another Death Marshall, this ones called Hayte, the lettering needs a bit more work but I'm getting some new base inserts soon so the bases are going to get a bit of an overhaul soon. I've also ordered the Ortegas boxset and am going to try and sculpt myself a Peacebringer as the Malifaux one is a tad expensive and I don't like the model much...

Anyway, here's the Death Marshall -

Nice and clean painting. Your death marshals are a bit on the dark side and detail is lost that way. I would try to add some contrast to the figs by adding bit of lighter tones to the torsos so that they would be more interesting to the eye.

The green glow from the coffin is a nice touch.

Post by: Great Unclean One

Well, I've seen the comments (Thanks guys ^^) and I've taken some advice, I've added some highlighting to the Death Marshall, so, here's the new paint scheme (I've also added a thin purple wash to the skin to make it look 'ghostly' as described in the Malifaux rule book.-

I also received my Ortegas yesterday and they'll be on the blog soon, I picked up an executioner too.... I may try doing some freehand tattoos on his belly or maybe a branded ram skull....

Well, enjoy and please, if your reading can you comment, it's great to hear what you guys think ^^

They're well painted. using them for any particular game e.g. 40k, Necromunda, etc. Not sure if I'm going to be a fan of the Ortegas miniature. But keep it up, your doing great.

They're for the skirmish game Malifaux, it says in the first sentence of the opening post.

Going back on-topic, I love the green and the names painted onto the bases as well. I look forward to more!

Thanks for your comments guys, it's great to see an interest

Well, sorry for the long wait, I've been waiting for bases, they finally came and they are amazing , they look awesome and I've painted up enough for all of the Guild models I have so far, here are a few pictures of the bases without models on and Hayte and Judge on their new bases. --

Thanks for reading ^^

Looks great! Where did you get the bases?

Post by: TempusCorvus

the death marshalls look awesome. In fact, they remind me of The Saint of Killers from Preacher. (Which is an awesome comic by the way.)

The Saint is essentially the Angel of Death, except he's an old cowboy. Oh, and he will survive anything. Even a NUKE.

Post by: Great Unclean One

@Ozymandais - I got the bases from Iron Halo -- https://ironhalo.net/store//catalog/index.php?cPath=21_32 , the base inserts are really awesome and are pretty cheap also, unfortunately the 20% off discount ended today....

@TempusCorvus - Yea, they do look a bit like The Saint of Killers don't they? (I've read a few of my dad's old Preacher comics), I originally bought the Death Marshalls to use for a GURP campaign (I based my character on the Gunslinger Roland from Stephen Kings' Dark Tower series)

Whats next on the docket GUO?

Current Projekt.... @ 2010/04/10 22:13:11

Post by: Great Unclean One

@DictatorGames -

Well, on the agenda I've got a whole Perdita crew to put together and paint, I've also got a McMourning crew that I'm painting for a friend so I'll have to get that and some other painting done before I start on my wonderful family of gunslingers. After this, I'm going to make myself a (shamelessly stolen from your idea)Guild display board for all my current (and future) Guild models

Anyhow, I've started work on the flesh construct, I'm near finishing but I really need some help for improvement on this guy, I can't seem to place my finger on what needs to be done (I'm doing some highlighting soon)--

(This is a brand I put on his leg to indicate his.... creator (McMourning) and what 'number' he is)

Thanks, and once again, please comment if you read, much appreciated ^^

Those are pretty crazy miniatures. I like the skins tones on the flesh golem thingy, looks like proper cold clammy dead flesh.

Current Projekt.... @ 2010/04/11 16:20:29

Post by: DictatorGames

The new Highlights on the Flesh Construct really work. He "pop"s now. Also Sebastian is great! THE blood splatter gives that random spray in the direction of the spinning blade. Perdita is great, I can't wait to get a chance to crank out more Malifaux models the moment my commissions stop.

Current Projekt.... @ 2010/04/12 20:10:48

Post by: Great Unclean One

Well, I lied a bit about Sebastian, I've now finished him (I've highlighted the face and smock), I've also started and nearly finished McMourning, now, I know of a few little things with him I need to fix but I'm stuck on something because he just doesn't seem right to me.... but anyhow, please comment and enjoy!

Really creepy and characterful work! These models are new to me, so extra nice of you to share the process.

Looking forward to more.

Current Projekt.... @ 2010/04/13 07:51:24

Post by: Great Unclean One

@Dictator Games - I make the blood splatters just by painting the model, and then when you've finished, water down some GW's Red Gore, load a Large Drybrush with it and use your thumb to bend the bristles back and then flick it at the model, it works really well ^^

@LordBoJangles - Thanks ^^, I'm tempted to paint up some Neverborn stuff.... however I really don't like the old hag model so I'd do the Pandora or Lilith's brood.... I really like the baby models =D

@Migsula, they are pretty creepy, that's mainly why I started, I was using the Death Marshalls as a character for an RPG but thanks for the comment ^^

Post by: Great Unclean One

Well, I've done some work on McMourning and have finally got him to a stage which I think is or is at least very close to being finished, I've washed a lot of the model with black and then highlighted again, and have also started the blue shirt again from scratch so it's a lighter colour now, enjoy and please if you read can you comment ^^

I'm trying to find a reason not to get into Malifaux as well. The Lady Justice model screams PAINT ME! The only thing holding me back is my unpainted Warmachine. XD

Nice work on McMourning, and on the assistant with the circular saw.

I like the way your technique is developing. The Malifaux miniatures seem (to me, at least) to require fairly subtle texturing, layering, washing and so on, in order to fully bring out the mood these models evoke. I think you're really starting to hit the note here, particularly with the Resurrectionist figures.

This game has some exceptionally fine minis. I've picked up Pandora's crew and a few other Neverborn figs, myself -- but I'm frankly a little intimidated to start painting them. The figures are so good. And the paint jobs done by Malifaux's professionals are wonderfully evocative and subtle. But I've seen a lot of mediocre paint jobs render these fine figures flat and pedestrian.

So I'm paying a pretty high compliment when I say, you're starting to do these figures justice.

Post by: Great Unclean One

@Bash the Bosh - Thanks man ^^ Just tell her it's all my fault, you never know, it might work

@Lorgar's_Blessed - I've got the same problem.... I reeeally need to paint up the last of my Death Marshall box set, particularly the Lady Justice.....

@tinfoil - Thank you sir ^^ it's great to know my painting is coming along in some way or another. Painting the Malifaux models has been quite new for me, I'm used to painting guardsman, chaos space marines and tanks , so painting something so thin has been relatively new for me. I do have to agree with the need of more work on them, they do need a lot more work on them to make them look really good, which is hopefully, what I can work up to ^^

Well, I've started and am close to finishing (I need to stop saying that dammit) the Nurse with the tray as I've aptly named her, maybe tray lady or something similar. I may leave her as she is but I'm very tempted to leave the pink and just make the green highlights a little more..... blended as the edging highlights didn't seem to work as well as I'd hoped.

Anyhow, here we go ^^ -

Creepy 'this won't make you feel any better' nurse = WIN

Green latex(or latex free, you never know these days) not quite my thing. But thats my problem not yours.

She looks mega.

I also tried the whole 'Darling....if..I..you know...brought...some more minisbythewayyoumothercalledthisafternoonshallIputthekettleon?'

These are absolutely brilliant. I have to say I really do love the Malifaux models and your doing a far better job of giving them justice than I did!

Current Projekt.... @ 2010/04/16 08:04:27

Post by: Great Unclean One

@Bash the Bosh - Sounds like a fine plan *Makes sneaking mime impression* But indeed, they actually have a power called 'Massive Dose' which makes one of your models insane as hell for a turn but kills it at the end O_O

@Llamahead - Thanks muchly ^^ I think also, I am falling in love with these models

But anyhow, I've finished the last nurse, and in turn the McMourning crew, I'm posting up some pics now and giving them to my friend tonight, I'm considering getting.... another boxset tonight, I may get one or might get the Ortegas painted first, we'll just have to wait and see

Enjoy ^^

I noticed with the strong highlights on the nurses it makes their clothing look like waxy latex nurse outfits . I also decided I like the green gloves and footwear now you have a group shot. It ties the group togther. Nice work mate.

P.S. just ordered my self 'Lady Justice'....she'll make a fine addition to my Escher.....*evil Mutley snigger*

Current Projekt.... @ 2010/04/17 08:38:11

Post by: Great Unclean One

@Bash the Bosh - She would look good in a Necromunda gang wouldn't she.... *Schemes to self* but thanks, when I buy my own McMourning I'm going to use a red PVC like paint job on them, make the flesh construct into a pyramid head (Maybe) McMourning in the colours of the Joker and what the feth I'm doing with Sebastian is a mystery to me

But anyway, I've finished the final highlights and touches on the other swirly magicky Death Marshall and I have, also bought myself another box set.... to be started after the Ortegas but knowing me, probably before and finished before I get round to the family of gunslingers.....

Current Projekt.... @ 2010/04/17 22:55:48

Well, I've finally got round to finishing off the Death Marshalls, only Lady Justice left to paint from that box set, now.... She's probably going to get done in the next day or two, anyhow, in the meantime, enjoy!

Well, sorry for the lack of updates guys, have had rather a lot of work to do, exams and all coming up ^^ But anyhow, I've managed to get started on Lady Justice and have also drawn up some designs for a 'Steam Machine' which I'm making for my art GCSE but is also going to count as my Guild Peace keeper.

Well, enough of me, here they are-

I think I'm going to give the hair a bit of a red wash and another brown so it looks more brunette, the blond is only really there as an extreme highlight.

Well, I'm going to make this out of a ping-pong ball, some tubing, green stuff, plasticard and some small metal ball bearings, look out for him later on in the blog!

Thanks for reading ^^

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Well, I promised myself I'd get my crew finished by Friday and I've finally finished Lady Justice!

So here she is and some other pictures of the finished crew, I think the next crew I'll work on is going to either be the Ortegas or Seamus' crew....

@Metsuri - Thanks ^^ It's good to know the bases paid off.

@CommissarKhaine - Hmmm.... It might have been, the lighting was from above so the skin was probably shaded quite badly by the mass of hair... I'll take some more pictures with the lighting in a different place ^^

@ChaosxVoid - It's good to know I've encouraged someone else to start Malfiaux ^^

@CommissarKhaine - Hmmm.... that's actually not a bad idea, I'm considering making it look like the mine has caved in and put tracks running into the mine and then in the rocks that block the entrance, put the odd limb and maybe a mining cart partially buried.... but thanks man, awesome idea! *Steals idea*

Well, now to the bloggy side of things, I've once again not done any painting But, I have started work on my custom Peace Keeper, I've put the legs on (most of them anyway) and started to sculpt the front furnace plate on, just a lot of rivets, chimneys and gubbins to add now!

Enjoy ^^

Current Projekt.... @ 2010/04/26 19:16:35

Post by: Great Unclean One

@CommissarKhaine - Thank man, hopefully this post should be at least a little update on your underground obsession

@Empchild - I'd say go for it, the individual models aren't that expensive and they do look fantastic, even just for painting and showing off they are awesome and you never know, they might get you into playing the game too ^^

Anyhow, here is a small update on the mine, I've added some rocks to make a sort of ramp up to the entrance and filled in the jaw part, I've also made some tracks which I've just laid on top so you can see what they look like,

Current Projekt.... @ 2010/04/26 20:53:36

Post by: CommissarKhaine

Like the tracks, they're looking pretty realistic; I would consider a sturdier base for what's gonna be a superb piece of terrain though, it would be shame to have a nice mine entrance with white little blobs flaking off...

Current Projekt.... @ 2010/04/27 18:48:01

Post by: Ozymandias

Seconded. I'd suggest sticking the styrofoam to a wood base then bevel all the edges to give a nice slope. Covered in sand, glue, and paint the styrofoam should be sturdy enough on a wood base.

Current Projekt.... @ 2010/05/03 18:57:55

Post by: Great Unclean One

@CommissarKhaine - Thanks dude ^^ I think that a wooden base is a good if not brilliant idea, I shall be doing this accordingly

@Ozymandais - Will do, thanks for the feedback man

Well, I'm rather sorry for the lack of updates, combination of not being near a computer/models O_O and commitments... damn them.

But anyhow, I've started on the Ortegas and have also found some wood to mount the mine onto which I'll get some pics of when I do some more major work on it. I've also started on the harpoon gun on the peacekeeper.

Enjoy ^^

Current Projekt.... @ 2010/05/08 23:08:00

Post by: Great Unclean One

@ CommissarKhaine - Thanks ^^ I prefer using stark and more... electric highlights (In real life they do look a wee bit like electricity), they give more contrast to the darker sections IMO

@ Arlexius - Cheers, it's pretty easy to do, it's just painted in a really light citadel green

@ Empchild - It's good to see someone else liking the mine, after the tourney I'm going to have to get some work done on it

Well, before I go off to the tourney, I've painted the last member of my crew that I'm using, Francisco. It's basically, Lady Justice, Judge, The Death Marshalls and Francisco.

Enjoy and please, if you read, do comment ^^-

Post by: Motograter

These look incredible. Cracking job on them all so far. Will hopefully be getting some models soon myslef and if I can get them to look half as good as these then damn.

What other factions are you thinking of doing for yourself?

Current Projekt.... @ 2010/05/10 22:33:33

Post by: Great Unclean One

@ CommissarKhaine - Hmmm.... indeed, I think I'll work a bit on the hat, probably just paint the swirly patterns a white colour, maybe do some other stuff if I can make something look good, might paint the inside a different colour also.

@ Motogrator - Yea go for it! As I've said before, great models, even just to paint, thanks for the support ^^ and if you post them up, give me a shout and I'll give them a look

For other factions, I'm considering them all really, I really like the Resurrectionists (I have a Seamus box waiting in the wings), the Pandora crew is really awesome and the Leviticus or Viktoria crews look really good as well, also the Archanist crews are really, really cool as well. But at the moment, I'm focusing on getting my Guild stuff finished, as they are my faction in the campaign/storyline in our FLGS ^^

Well, in the time of getting back from the tourney and playing some very painful Rugby, I have managed to do some work on the mine, I've added it to a MDF base, stuck the tracks on, put the start of the gates in place (The metal pipes) and have also put some paint pots inside to build the cave in from. -

Also, here are some pictures of the models at the tourney and the painting competition, it had a turn out of about 6 which was pretty decent. I won the painting competition and the tourney as well And as a prize, got a new model, well a replacement for a model I'd lost an arm to (The last Ortega) Anyhow, here are the pics -

Well guys, apologies for lack of updates, It's been exams... damn them but I have done some work in the meantime, here it is and please, if you read, comment I've also made a new sig and C&C are greatly appreciated, it's the first thing like this I've ever done and I'd like to know what you guys think

This is the very WIP Papa Loco for my Ortegas, I used them in nearly all my games at the tournament, thus I think they deserve a bit of paint on them ^^

This is the mine, I've added some sand to it and am going to start working on the gates soon....

Finally, because I've not started them properly and I wont have enough updates to turn it into a proper blog yet, here is my Steel Legion WIP model.

I plan to make a squad of them (10) using cadians as a base, green stuffing over them so they are no longer the IP of GW and then casting and using them for a full blown army ^^ This, in particular I need comments on, is it good? Is it horrible? Are there bits that need to be improved? Tanks

Congrats on your tourney results, and your models look great as usual!

I really like where the mine is going, it will make a splendid terrain piece when finished.

As for the Steel legion: it's definitely better then what I could pull off . His mask seems a tad off to the left, but that may be the pic. Love the model, I'm curious to see those with some paint on.

Good luck with the exams!

'big' and I do agree, the mask is actually lopsided but this was just a test figure and I'll admit I rushed it, the real ones should be much better

@Motogrator - Awesomesauce, good to see someone else getting into Malifaux! I'll have a look for your Ress blog, but many thanks for the comments, they mean a lot

All that needs doing now is painting, thanks for all of you who encouraged me through the project ^^ Here are the shots of the final piece, if you see anything you think needs improving, please comment as it's not too late to change it, however it will be getting paint on it at least by next Friday!

Hope you enjoy and if you view, please comment!

@Disjointed Entity - Thanks a lot man It's great to hear from you ^^.

@CommissarKhaine - I thought you'd like the mine I should hopefully have it finished entirely, painted and all by this Friday, all things permitting.

@The Good Green - Cheers dude Good to know the sculpt is ok ^^ Now I can get on with painting it and making the real ones.

Well, in this update, I've painted Papa Loco (He's nearly finished, there's just something about him but I can't put my finger on it) and I've tried my first stab at NMM on the Executioner. I really need some C&C on this model as it's my first time trying it and would really like some tips and comments on what I've done.

Anyhow, here they are -

I quite like your Papa Loco. Looks very good.

I`m liking your NMM. It has came across as being very well done. If I would change any of it i`d perhaps make it a little lighter to give it that more metallic feel. Other than that though. It`s looking good.

Where abouts are you based in the UK?

Current Projekt.... @ 2010/05/26 18:26:20

Post by: CommissarKhaine

Papa loco is looking good, and the NMM is very nice IMO. Only the gauntlet's inside of his left hand is a bit unsteady, but splendid work otherwise!

Meciful Lord that NMM looks good! FIrst time?! I say seasoned veteran!
Great work GUO.

@Motograter - Thanks ^^ I'm considering keeping Papa as he is, he's grown on me in the past day.... also, thanks for the tip with the NMM, I'm not going to try it on the executioner (I'm too scared of buggering him up ) but I'l try it on the next one, also I'm based up in Manchester, you?

@CommissarKhaine - Much thanks I'll try and make the highlighting on the next NMM I do slightly more steady ^^

@Disjointed Entity - I promise you it is the first try Great to know you like it ^^

Anyhow, quick update of the mine! Which I have finished, I'm taking to my FLGS on Friday and I hope they get some good use of it, I know the Malifaux players will!

Hope you enjoyed that Please leave a comment if you view

Your terrain is fantastic GUI fits the setting perfectly, love the warning sign.
In fact your thread has convinced me to get the Malifaux rulebook and a couple of starter packs once I can rustle up some spare cash.

Loving that terrain piece there. Keep up the good work. Finally my base inserts arrived along with a ton of new models so will be geting them up shortly bar the big distraction i`ll have which will take me away for a bit lol.

Currently i`m in Newcastle. Used to spend a lot of time down in Manchester. Few years I was there.

While I like the paintjob (you can definitely paint, you've proven that much in this thread!) and the construction is splendid, I feel the paintjob could use a lot more weathering. You've modelled it as a derelict mine entrance with the cart and all the filth caked to it, yet there's no rust on the cart or chains, and the planks don't look like gnarled wood to me (unless they were meant to be something else). No to say it's not a nice paintjob, just that you can do better IMO. Excelsior!

@Mu - Thanks dude, when you've painted them or made a blog can you give me a link, I'll look out for it but I'd love to see your finished models ^^

@Motogrator - Cheers I've seen the work you've been doing and it looks ace, well done!

@CommissarKhaine - Many thanks for the constructive criticism, when I get the chance I'll see if I can give it a drybrush of a rusty colour to make it a bit weathered, probably not much chance of a picture as the shop has it now but I'll keep it in mind for future terrain projects of this sort

Sorry for the long wait but I have a massive update. I've changed the name of the blog as I have a few projects on the go and I thought it'd be best to consolidate all of them into one blog, so here is a huge update of the work I've been up to in the break in my blog updates, enjoy!

First of all, here are some pics of Iron Warrior terminators I have been working on,

Secondly, here are some pics of my Iron Warrior Vindicator (Which got a showing on GW's 'Whats New' section http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/blogPost.jsp?aId=10500124a) -

And Finally, here is a quick pic of my Epic Butcher, I'm starting Warmachine so any tips on what to buy to go with him for a 15 points force would be fantastic. Also, I'm going down to Games Day this year and hopefully entering Young Bloods, so this will be a test figure and I'll try and paint it up to Golden Demon Young Blood standard, so when commenting on this model, try and be a Golden Demon judge if you could ^^

Thanks, and once again, if you read, please comment

@Lexx - Thanks man, I'm really happy with how they turned out.... so I turned one into my sig

@CommissarKhaine - Cheers And I think I'll give the chains a mud wash when I've got the time or drybrush them with something, any ideas?

Anyhow, just a wee update, I'm trying out a color scheme for the Epic Butcher red on his tabard, I've finished and need some C&C, please comment on the scheme and the painting quality. I need to get this as top notch as I can and getting some advice on how to improve it would be fantastic

Current Projekt.... @ 2010/06/10 18:35:02

Mud wash sounds good, maybe some drybrushing with metallics to tie them in with the other metallic of the hull? or maybe makez them bronze/gold/ whatever metal you'd like.

With the red I can't help you, I suck at painting that colour :(. Majortom11's blood angels have a very nice red tone and he put up th erecipe, so thta might be an idea?

@Scrazza - Cheers dude, great to hear from you

http://privateerpress.com/files/imagecache/1up/products/khador/warcasters/war-dog.png

Well, I'm sure you all know of the Khador wardog .... yes, a giant of a dog, built like well.... a giant dog. Here, is my take on this fearsome creature, not finishe yet, needs fur added around the edges but the surface texture is done, built on the Malifaux zombie chihuahua, I'm being allowed to use it at my FLGS. ^^

Hope you liked it.

So far this is what I have left to paint/build with more to be added....

It includes-

-Fenris on foot and horse (Painting for a guy at my FLGS who we have a deal of which I paint it and it stays at the shop and I can use it when I want)
-Doom Reavers
-eButcher
-Sorscha
-Juggernaut
-Perdita + Nino Ortega
-Executioner
-Warrior Priest for a NMM painting exercise
-Seamus' malifaux crew

This is going to take some time.... effort and lots and lots of coffee....

Current Projekt.... @ 2010/06/14 21:45:12

Post by: Great Unclean One

@CommissarKhaine - Indeed, the thing I like about the current set of models I have to do is that they are all interesting and individual, that way I can spend a lot of time on each and not get bored! But as well, it'd be good to get some other people posting on here other than the regulars, thanks for keeping up with the blog btw, ^^.

Anyhow, I've done a few more bits of armor on the Butcher, I've also re-done the tabard as I really started to dislike the yellow and this time have stopped at orange, what do we think?

One question I need answering though is, 'Is this Young Blood Golden Demon standard?' I've really no clue if my painting is up to scratch and since I'm considering entering this year, I really, really need some feedback on this model which I'm using as a test to see if my painting is up to scratch.

Anyhow, if you read please comment, your feedback means a lot to me and it's what keeps me painting and motivated, so please if you read, comment, even if it's just a little one ^^.

Sounds like a diversified group indeed - will be looking forward to the results! Don't worry about the number of comments, the number of views says a lot more IMO then how many people have replied - of course, your amount of feedback is limited to a few loudmouths like me .

As for the butcher: no idea if he's GD youngbloods level yet, but I do feel the colour should be glazed a bit to add that lacquered finish. If you don't like the highlight effect of yellow, dwarf flesh or vomit brown may be options. If you want to make the red bit colder, consider a purple or green wash. That's about all the knowledge I have when it comes to painting flat surfaces of red

Current Projekt.... @ 2010/06/16 21:19:01

Post by: Great Unclean One

@CommissarKhaine - Thanks for the tips on the red, I think I'll paint the model and then do finishing touched like final glazes and dark washes to add finishing touches to the model. The only thing is, I need feedback to understand what I need to do to improve, it's great to know that people are viewing my work but it'd be even better and more productive for me to have more people than you and a handful of others commenting on what I can improve.

Anyhow, I've done a wee bit more work on the Butcher, I think I'll probably end up posting my daily and slow progress with him to show how I'm progressing and so you can see him as I paint.

Also, I've started laying a white basecoat for Sorscha, here is the artwork I'm basing her color scheme on and the model so far, not much done but I'll work on her as I continue the Butcher.

(Taken from Warmachine Forces Khador)

Thanks much, and please if you view comment.

Like the understated metallics; the pelt looks a tad rough though - might be the lighting, but it looks you should thin your paint a bit before adding he highlight - since you're aiming for GD standard, we have to be severe!

Current Projekt.... @ 2010/06/21 21:46:15

Post by: Great Unclean One

@CommissarKhaine - Metallics? I haven't actually started them yet, but I suppose your referring to the black parts of the cloak? It's not supposed to be metal but it does look a fair bit like metal.

Also, with the trim, I've drybrushed it, do you think it might be better done another way or just paint over it again and then drybrush again but with thinner paint?

Current Projekt.... @ 2010/06/21 22:13:36

Post by: CommissarKhaine

Lol, the black has an understated metallic sheen to it - oops . I reckon drubrushing is OK, but I'd thin th paint a bit so you can make the transitions a tad more subtle. Also, spend the same amount of attention on each bit of fur - the part to the left of the engine is alot darker thent he rest, and it immediately attracts attenion because of that. Not that you're doing a bad job, mind you -I admire your patience!

RE: Malifaux - your paintschemes and concept are spot on, though on some minis, your highlighting is excessive and sometimes ruins a model, rather than finishing it. Eg. Sebastian, has highlights on recessed/shadowed areas.

RE: Malifaux terrain, brilliant idea on the mine, but once again you go overboard with some details.

RE: Khador. Paint is clean. Try not to get carried away.

Current Projekt.... @ 2010/07/03 08:13:04

@CommissarKhaine - Ah fair enough, I'll go over the fur again, trying to be a bit neater and get some better coverage. ^^

@AvatarForm - Thanks for the feedback, , the Malifaux stuff was relatively quickly painted but what do you mean by getting carried away on the Khador? I'd just like to make sure I don't do it.

Also, sorry for the lack of updates, I've been in France and away from my minis, but normal service will resume shortly on Monday when I get back.,

Well, time for an update from the dead! Sorry for the wait, but I have a tourney coming up on the 18th and I'm planning on getting my Khador 35 points army finished by then.

It consists of.

eButcher
2 x Kodiaks
1 x Juggernaut
2 x Doom Reavers
Fenris
Wardog

I need opinions on this list (Might post it on the warmachine section but I'll leave it here first.) Anyhow, here are the Doom Reavers I'm working on.

There we go, there is some other stuff and more Doom Reavers but unfortunately, they didn't get through the Dakka gallery, so I'll post them tomorrow at some point.

Anyhow, here are the pics that I couldn't get on yesterday, first of all, the rest of the Doom Reavers.

As well as this, I've also worked on the Peacekeeper a little bit, I think he might be finished now, might add another chimney, thoughts on this?

Finally, I also bought Grind (half and halved) and here is my progress with making the warjacks into Kodiaks (I've magnetized all of the weapons and I need to build another clenched fist arm for the second.)

Thanks for reading and please comment if you have looked through!

looking good. list looks solidly beat face. tier 3 butcher list isn't it? nice idea using grind minis.

Current Projekt.... @ 2010/07/16 23:54:28

Post by: Great Unclean One

@azekio - Thanks dude, unfortunately, it's only tier 1.... I'd need another unit of Doom Reavers for tier three.

To be honest, if I had the models I'd have used another squad, as with tier 2, you effectively get three points knocked off the third Doom Reaver unit and I'd have taken a cheaper warjack rather than the second Kodiak.

Unfortunately, due to the lack of Doom Reavers, I can't do this.... playing my games so far, I think that a third unit would do smashingly well, people seem to only just deal with two! With three and Fenris, I can't see someone stopping them all by the time they are at the enemies throats, and Butcher can sit back and pop his feat in relative safety.

Which is exactly why I'm buying another unit on Sunday, I wont be able to use them in the tourney, but I will as hell use them in future ones!

Anyhow, update time!

Here are some pics of Butcher, the NMM gold is a bit rough, depending on the feedback I get from him, I may do it again taking more care. Please comment on this guy, as feedback is essential so I get him right.

Finally, here are some quick pics of the Doom Reavers and Fenris on foot and mounted, the swords are rather WIP and are going to be NMM (Mainly to practice) with glowing green centers.

Enjoy and please, if you read, comment!

Hey guys, awefully sorry for the long hiatus, but I'm back! I've been in Japan for the last month, but I'm starting my next projekt effecting immediately! As some might know, I've got myself a Limited Edition Lord Chompy Bits and Dreamer coming fro GenCon and after reading his stat card, I knew I'd need some Teddies.

So, I thought, with my recent.... obsession with hellsing, I'll make myself a 'Walter' Teddy, admittedly, he's got claws not wires and he's a bit more.... over the top but I think he'll do nicely, here are some WIP shots to get you warmed up, more to follow very soon! I'm aiming to get him finished by the end of the holidays.

Finally, updates! The curse of lack of them has struck again, but I have a feeling we wont be seeing much of them in the coming months.... well maybe when I pop off to India for a while in October but other than that, it should be steady progress, or my art GCSE is as good as screwed which is not good!

Anyhow, here are some updates, first of all, some small progress done on Walter, just experimenting with fur. I think I'm going to do it in small patches and layer it, to make it more realistic but I've figured a technique I like.

Here is a warrior priest I'm working on. He's more an exercise in painting and I'm hoping to sell him after painting, so if your interested PM me and I can do a certain paint scheme for you, (UK only) but otherwise, it's E-Bay, Swap Shop or my FLGS for him. But this was the start of the white, don't think it's quite finished, but C&C are greatly encouraged on this model!

Finally, here is something of a taster for you guys of whats coming over the next month, I'm going to have some fun painting these models I can tell you!

Thank you for reading, and please, if you read then can you comment.

What company sells those harlot models?

Current Projekt.... @ 2010/08/29 23:53:51

Post by: Great Unclean One

@crimsonmicc - Ah, the 'harlots' as you call them are produced by Wyrd miniatures -- http://wyrd-games.net/home They are for the game Malifaux. Just a bit of clarification, they aren't actually harlots... or even prostitutes, in the rules it pretty much forces it down your throat each time it mentions them that they aren't!

They are a group of performers (Led by the lady on the left in the second picture called Collete Du Bois) who perform Burlesque and shows at the Star Theater in the Malifaux world. But they are some damn pretty models, I'm truly looking forward to getting started on them!

Well guys, I finally got him, the Nytmare, Lord Chompy Bits! But this isn't just any Lord Chompy Bits, it's the Nightmare Edition Lord Chompy Bits... (Pun intended) So all projekts are on hold.... probably, until this beast of a model is done.

Here are some pics, to show you the model and size comparison and I'll explain what I'm planning for the model afterwards.

Well, what I'm planning? The paint job is going to be VERY dark, very subdued highlights to make him look shadowy and the flames around his legs in VERY light blue, using the light source painting technique to make them look like they are lighting him up. I'm also going to be doing the same for the Dreamer on his shoulder, he will be a light source and lighting up the shoulder area and one side of the face.

The bases are going to be custom made chess boards which are cracking under the weight of Chompy, which will also serve to make him in a more upright pose, making his face looking upwards and not at the floor. There will of course be light coming from the cracks, lighting the model up even more! A similar idea for the Dreamer, but his will be the opposite (Sucking light) and look like it's being forced apart by his ability to bend reality to his will.

Hope you enjoyed, and please post a comment if you've read it, even a small one is appreciated and C&C is greatly needed! Not just on this projekt but on the ones on hold. Thanks, .

Current Projekt.... @ 2010/09/03 23:17:03

Post by: Great Unclean One

Right guys, I've started the base for Lord Chompy, here are some WIP pics, just need to greenstuff the chessboard detail on the milliput and define the edges a bit more.... just need to get myself some greenstuff first. I'll work a bit on Dreamer's base tomorrow if all goes well, and painting shall commence shortly!

As you can see, his is now in a MUCH more upright pose, his face is now looking forward, now down!

Anyhow that's all for now, please, if you read could you please post a comment, thanks.

@Scrazza - Thanks man ^^ I can't wait to get him painted! Damn greenstuff, need to pick some up tomorrow!

@vinsal - I found minor issues with gaps, I've pinned.... everything on mine but I think with some greenstuff, I can get rid of the gaps. ^^ Oh, also, one tip is, get the mould lines off now, so when you get that idea or spark of genius for what your going to do with him, you don't have to spend 2+ hours on prep first!

Anyhow, here are some quick pictures of the Dreamer's base, there will be..... substantially more to his base, but that would be telling.

As soon as I get some greenstuff (Tomorrow) I can start the detail on the bases and when they are finished, I can start painting. It's soooo damn annoying not being able to get down to painting, but I need everything assembled for painting, as I'm using an light source painting technique.

Remember, if you've read the blog, please post a reply and some C&C, thanks.

OK!

Actually, just want to say I just read through this thread for the first time, and I love what you did with that mine piece. The busted open gates especially caught my attention. Great work!

@hungryp - Thanks a lot man, it's good to know someone takes note of the little message at the end of my posts. It seems my FLGS liked the mine peice too, it's now in the display cabinet with my Malifaux models. ^^

Anyhow, quick base update, and some pics of Chompy, who looks much much better all filled in!

Hope you've enjoyed reading the blog, please leave a message, even a small one is much appreciated!

@weetyskemian44 - Thanks dude ^^ I too, love the burlesque girls, they are top priority once this 'little' projekt is finished. Also, glad you like the bases, I'm using them for my brother's Ramos (Steampunk guy) crew also.

Anyhow, another, (I'm really sorry about this, I'll get them finished as soon as I can), base update, all for now but should be finished at the latest by the end of Friday.

Anyhow, please, if you read the blog, can you be kind enough to leave a message please, even little ones are appreciated.

Well guys, I made a bit of a push today and I've finished the top of the base on Lord Chompy Bits, I've also done a bit of work on Dreamer's base, once again, cookies will be issued if you can guess what the base will be!

Also, I need some C&C on the side of Chompy's base (The faces) as I don't know if to continue them all round the base or not.

Enjoy!

Thanks for reading, please leave a comment, even a small one is appreciated!

I like the faces on the base idea, but maybe doing it around the whole thing would be overkill?

Loving the models, my only critiscism is that such bold highlights may look great on the table (as they allow you to see the detail from afar) but as painting competition entries I much prefer finer highlighting, several layers etc . . . But still, some cracking work there =D

Also, your modelling skills are great too, loving the peacekeeper, admittedly the Wyrd model is great too, but your's will definitely stand out as a different model than the rest.

Lastly, whereabouts do you live. As I'm always looking for new Malifaux players to play against =p

Hmmmm, still need to find a way to kick chompy's ass. But my Spirits of Vengeance will be bought!

Also, not bad stuff for a 14 year old.

@Anthony_D - It does a bit doesn't it! But, no, it's not going to be a giant plant!

@vinsal - Hmmm.... I think your right, so I have scrapped that idea and declared the base finished!

@Jihallah - Thanks dude, one day, one day I'll get round to painting them!

@weetyskemian44 - Thanks muchly!

@Oshova - I agree whole heartedly on the bold highlights, hopefully I should be pulling my act together and doing some more subtle blending on this model! Thanks for the rest of your comments also and I'm in the Manchester area if you want someone to play Malifaux with, we have a rather large group here.

@Nailz94 - Thanks dude and yes you do! It's been a looong time since you posted on Dakka no?

Anyhow, here are the FINAL pictures you'll ever see of Chompy's base and model without any paint (aside from primer) on them! The next update, I will FINALLY get round to start painting!

@Oshova - Damn! If your even up here though, just give me a PM, I'd be happy to come to town and have a game with you! ^^

@Disjointed Entity - Thanks dude, great to know you like my work.

Anyhow, here is some.... bad news. Due to a slight muck up at the shop, I was sold a Lord Chompy Bits I shouldn't have been sold, I didn't mind giving it back, but unfortunately I'm not going to be able to continue work on him.

This does however give me plenty of time for some burlesque! So, here are some pics of Collette who I've been working on in between reading Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and weeping over the unfortunate loss....

As you can see, I've gone for a bit of a ringmaster type scheme for her, hope you like it, and am looking for ideas for all the other Showgirls colour schemes as well....

Loving the ringmaster look. I've gone for as bright colours as possible for my Rotten Belles. But I'm thinking this could possibly have looked cooler =p

Looking good. I like how Lord Chompy's base is coming out. I like the faces too, but it looks like those got nixed already. The dreamers base is looking very cool. Is he gonna be standing on the tentacle/wire thing coming out of the top?

*reading last post...*
OH NOSE!!! no more Lord Chompy? I'm sorry to hear that. It was all coming along so nicely.

Not to pry, but why would they sell you, then take back, a mini that you had already built and started to paint?

If the store flubbed and needed it back, they could have just paid you to paint it or at least let you finish.

Sorry to hear about LCB.

@Nailz94 - Indeed, tis a pity but at least I've got something to be getting on with, thanks mate. ^^

@Oshova - Thanks man, I just though.... hang on, who does she look like. Ringmaster! And I have to say, the colour scheme has gone rather well, almost too well.... I don't trust it.....

@The Good Green - Ah, indeed the faces, I just didn't like them unfortunately..... and yes, unfortunately no more Chompy, sorry about that dude, but a massive thanks for the input!

@vinsal - No problem dude, to be fair, it was more an employee of the shop basically got a couple got from Gencon through the shop (Not exactly sure how this worked), but the Chompy I got, was basically reserved for someone else. Also, it was sold to me by a different guy in the shop from the employee who'd ordered them in, so the guy I actually bought the model from didn't realise.

The reason I couldn't finish is because the guy who's Chompy Bits it was, wanted to paint it, and I didn't want to be a total arse and go, 'no I don't want to give it back and I want to finish painting it' I figured the best way was to be polite and nice about it.

But the guy who ordered them in is putting a copy of the bad dreams box set put behind the counter for me when it's released as way of a thank you, so expect to see that soon.... and it stands to reason that I could.... practice my greenstuffing by making the standard Lord Chompy just a wee bit bigger.

Anyhow, quick update, here is some warrior priest, enjoy!

Looking for some C&C on this guy, as he's going up for sale when finished.
