Do you guys pre-post missions? What's the format? Is the sportsmanship just 0-10 rate it how you want to or is it a well structured checklist?
Thanks

Why do all these GTs want to charge 60 bucks just to play?
It's not that I don't have money for it, it just seems a little absurd.

They normally have to pay for a venue and don't do it for charity out of their own pocket. Even with that kind of fee a lot of tournaments take losses in their first few years.

$60 is right for a GT style event, but it is hard to shell out for this event.
They are not advertising them at all, and if it was not for the GW Events calendar, no one would ever hear about them. The people that are putting it on are from the Bay Area, and still a lot of people there never knew about the Conquest Ragnarok that was held there.
People do not want to pay $60 sight unseen on a tournament that has never been held before and without any feedback from the people who are running it. So far they are doing a horrible job with these events. Is it any wonder that they had to cancel the Las Vegas one?
Look at the threads for Bolter Beach and the Nova open and look how the event organizers are publicizing their events and answering all questions. They are forth coming about the scenarios, and the details of the scoring.
This post was the first sign of life from the event organizers which is a step in the right direction, but we will see how they are with their follow up. They have till the end of May to try to make this event work.

Thanks for the questions Hulk
Missions - Normally not posted. But the basics are: Win/Draw/Lose for 15/10/5 points. +1 to 5 more points for completting objectives.
Format - Swiss. Round 1 random, round 2-5 by battle points.
Sportsmanship - 4 check items and a 0-6 personal oppinion.

Hey Y'all,
Just to clear some information up. The ConQuest GT's are owned by Avalon Game Conventions. This is not a Bay Area group, but the do hold con's in the Bay Area as well as other areas up and down the west coast.
In January of 2010, 2 weeks before the Seattle Slaughter I was asked to come on board to help run these events. On such short notice it has taken me some time to get settled and start getting to the point I felt comfortable advertizing and getting the work out.
Although I will be the Head Judge for most of the ConQuest events, I am not the Tournament Orginizer. I can answer some questions about rules and stuff, but others I'll need to forward to the TO to get answers for you.
I'll try and keep an eye on the forums to answer any questions you may have.
Thanks for any input.

For missions are they out of the book or are they TO created missions. This matters because they can be severely imbalanced and posting them early helps mitigate that by taking feedback or allowing people to adjust. If they are just out of the rulebook then it's fine. Thanks for the response.

The basic missions are out of the book for the most part. The bonus points are for completting objectives like killing your opponets general or capturing table quarters or holding the center hill, stuff like that.

Post by: Hulksmash
So standard KP's, Capture and Control, and Seize Ground w/standard deployments (i.e. DoW, Spearhead, and Pitched Battle) with added bonus points?
If this is the case then it sounds good to me.
8411
Post by: asugradinwa
Most of the missions are pretty close to the book missions, with some special exceptions here or there. For example:
Caputure & control with spearhead deployment with both objectives being placed in the center of the table quarters NOT being used for deployment.
Or Sieze ground with 5 objectives, one in the center of the table, then 1 each in the center of each table quarter.
The only mission that rubbed me the wrong way was a killpoints mission in Seattle, but after the negitive feedback I doubt you'll see that mission again.
IMO one of the best things Conquest has going for it are the missions, enough difference as to not just be out of the book, but not wonky enough to become totally unbalanced like some of the missions I've seen other tournaments run.

Kill Points do have a modification on 1 mission. Units from 275-349 points are worth 2 kill points, and units over 350 points are worth 3 kill points.
For Seize Ground some of the missions are set number of objectives not random d3+2.
Deployment is out of the book, no change.

Awesome sauce. I'll see about attending then now that I've had a few of my bigger worries answered.
9709
Post by: AbsoluteBlue
I am not sure if there are concerns about attendance, but unless the organization is concern that providing more complete information will actually reduce attendance, it is my opinion, that if more information provided in detail more people would sign up early.
I will probably attend, since I am local, but the lack of complete information makes me feel like either a) the information does not exist, indicating a lack of preparedness, or b) the organizers are scared that the information will scare people away, which is a bigger issue if so.
So I ask, why not just be open and disclose everything regarding the missions and sportsmanship scoring?
It is my opinion, that being more open about these items earlier in your marketing will actually increase attendance and early purchase. (which makes for better overall event planning)

Thanks for the input.
Sportsmanship:
Check all that apply
1 Point: Was your opponent prepared? On time with all game accessories (dice, rules, templates, etc) and a copy of their army list for you to keep.
1 Point: Was your opponent fair? Measured correctly, consistent in die rolls, settled rules disputes amicable.
1 Point: Was your opponent friendly? Introduced themselves, treated you with respect.
1 Point: Was your opponent fun to play?
0-6 Points: On a Scale of 0-6 rate your overall experience playing your opponent.
(6 = Outstanding, 4 = Average, 2 = Poor, 0 = Very Bad.)
Missions. Of the 3 or 4 large GT's I play in none of them post missions early. We will not be posting them early. And yes, we do change them a bit from GT to GT.
Hope that helps.

How will painting be judged?
What is prize support?
9709
Post by: AbsoluteBlue
That helps. Though you might want to consider disclosing more information earlier, since looking at the attendance of SIS2 and the SF Conquest GT, some of these events might want to change things up to try to increase attendance. I know you guys are following a pattern, but something to consider in the future if the attendance of this event is less that hoped for. It's a bit of a false analogy, I know, but not releasing missions, to me, is like offering tickets to a "rock" concert but not telling anybody who is playing.
Not a fan of the overall opponent experience for sportsmanship points, as this is game-able, especially if we show up as a club, but it is what it is, I guess... (and thats the last I will speak of sportsmanship scores in this thread as it has all been said before )
Again, I have a 90% chance of showing up...
but this is simply because I want to have a chance at playing some folk I don't get to normally play.

Dave_Fay wrote:How will painting be judged?

Games Workshop supplies Prize support. I do not know how it is calculated, but I'll ask.
Paint Scoring:
Judge Section:
Basic Painting (worth up to 25 points) Check One Box.
0 Points: Army is not fully painted. This means that there are more than a couple models with prominent areas of plastic, metal or primer showing.
10 Points: Army is almost fully painted, but there are a couple of models with prominent areas of plastic, metal, or primer showing.
15 Points: Army is fully painted, but only to the three-color standard of base coating or looks sloppy or rushed.
25 Points: Army is fully painted beyond the 3-color standard for base coating and demonstrates effort in painting, including shading/highlighting.
Additional Painting (worth up to 10 points) Check ALL that apply to the bulk (90%+) of the army.
1 Point: Painting is Uniform. Not a mix of schemes, styles, and looks.
1 Point: Basic Painting is Clean. Base colors are painted neatly.
1 Point: Clean Highlights. Lines are neat, dry brushing is appropriate, inking is controlled and not sloppy.
2 Points: Advanced Highlights. More than one layer of highlight, which may include shading, highlights over inking, blending, etc.
1 Point: Painted Details. Model details are painted such as eyes, buckles, and jewellery.
1 Point: Well Painted Details. Model details are painted well (clean, have highlights).
1 Point: Artistic Details. Models have squad markings, banners, and other details beyond painting the basic models.
2 Points: Exceptional Artistic Details. Any artistic details and flourishes are done exceptionally well and impressive in scope.
Basing (worth up to 5 points) Check ALL that apply to the bulk (90%+) of the army.
1 Point: Based/Detailed: Bases have basing materials (flock/sand/tiles) or details painted on them.
1 Point: Highlights: Bases have clean highlighting (shading/dry brushing). The edges of the base are clean (painted or not).
1 Point: Extra details: There are extra details on more than a few bases (multiple basing materials or artistic flourishes, helmets, skulls, building rubble, etc.)
2 Points: Awesome presentation: Taken as a whole, the bases unify the army, help create a story, or are otherwise outstanding, original, or impressive.
Conversions (worth up to 5 points) Check ALL that apply.
1 Point: Minimal: The army has some elementary conversions (head and weapon swaps, arm rotations) or a couple interesting swaps. 1 Point
1 Point: Minor: Units have multi-kit conversions including head and weapon swaps. The conversions must be for more than a few models in the army, such as entire units or all specialty characters and models in the army.
1 Point: Major: The army has a few difficult conversions (including those that use things such as putty, plastic card, drilling, sawing, minor sculpts, etc.) executed well. Alternately, the entire army features very well done multi-kit conversions (see above).
2 Points: Extreme: The army has some extreme conversions, which could be: a scratch built conversion or sculpt of an entire model, a large amount of models with difficult conversions (see above), or the entire army is extremely converted.
Other Appearance (worth up to 5 points) Check all that apply to bulk (80%+) of army.
1 Point: Display Base: Basic based & highlighted or detailed display base.
1 Point: Advanced display base: The base goes above and beyond a shaded and highlighted display base and includes elements that stand out and/or unify the entire army presentation.
1 Point: Something Special: There is something above and beyond about a model's painting, the display base, a conversion, or anything else that catches the judge's eye. This can be a single awesome model, an exquisitely converted unit, a great back-story or some other element that really pops.
2 Points: Overall Appearance: Overall appearance of the ENTIRE ARMY is just amazing! Everything works great together to create an awesome scene or conveys a story.
Penalties
-2 Points: Army list not displayed with army.
-75 Points: "Did you paint your army?" answer is "Yes", but it is proven the player lied (yes, this will affect the overall score).
Hope that helps

Not to offend or deter anyone, but there hasn't been a lot of talk about this tourney outside of this thread and with the Vegas ConQuest tournament being canceled at the last minute, I'm more concerned that I'd be paying $60 (now $70) for a GT atmosphere that may only end up with 10-15 people.

Each Mission is on the table at the start of each round.

Post by: Reecius
Hmm.
Well, can't say that I like that since I hate wacky missions and if you don't have time to prepare for a wacky mission before you are knee deep in one then they are extra gakky.
Trying to move all of your stuff, get set up, play the game, figure out rules and formulate a strategy all while trying to figure out the ins and outs of a completely alien mission doesn't sound too fun.
What kinds of missions are these? If they are close to the ones in the book, then we should be fine, but if these are missions the TO made up, then this could turn to suckfest in very, very short order.
8411
Post by: asugradinwa
I've played in the last two Conquest Tournaments and the scenerios are the furthest thing you can get from "wacky."
All 10 of the missions I played are a pretty close to a book mission with little tweaks here & there. For the most part, I've really enjoyed the missions, with the exceptions of the modified killpoints game in Seattle, but I don't think Doc will bring that one back.
2776
Post by: Reecius
OK cool, whew, thanks for clearing that up, Asugradinwa.
I HATE wacky missions, and while I would rather have that than nothing, the idea of having those sprung on us just made me cringe.
Cool, thanks for clarifying, that makes a big difference for me, personally.
8411
Post by: asugradinwa
Yeah, I'm not one for wacky missions myself (unless it's 'ardboys, then the missions should be wacky IMO).
The Ragnarok missions were 15 points win 10 points tie 5 points loss with a 3 point bonus & a 2 point bonus.
The bonuses were not hard, but made sense for the mission such as "control the objective in your opponent's deployment zone."
I'd come down for it, but after buying a house & paying for my wedding I'll be stuck up in the Pacific NW until next year.

Wolves it is then. I'm not sure enough about my Daemons to run them and not having the mini-gt to test them in first means I'm not gonna risk it. Hopefully we see some more people for 40k. Since it can't really get any worse on the competitive side due to some of the people already showing up.

Yeah, while this tournament may be small if you think about it, the competition will really be tough since everyone going has one thought in mind. (IE- there will be about 15 players and 2 tickets to the LVGT on the line)
Also, not to mention that with 5 rounds and about 15 players chancs are that you're going to end up playing in a re-match game at some point...

So we paid $60 for a one day event? I'm sorry that you guys didn't get a turn out but this is bull pucky. I've got a friend that wouldn't have signed up at all for a 1 day event. Let alone spent the $60 for it. This change is ridiculous with doing it less than a week to go. Some people booked rooms they won't be able to get back so you costing your customers money. To be honest with the way it has been handled thus far I probably wouldn't be inclined to pay the $1 for the event in november because even though it's billed in the OC who is to say it won't wind up in Arizona the week before or that you won't cancel that one if you don't get the turnout your looking for. Obviously I'm a little peeved at the latest communication.

What happened with this?

Post by: Hulksmash
They didn't get enough people signed up so at the last minute they have:
-Changed it to a 4 game 1 day event
and
-Changed the location of the event
Both with less than a week to go. I've also asked them how this will affect the scoring as with only 5 games the previously listed scoring is of course not correct anymore and would make painting a much larger influence on the overall outcome.

Ouch. That's a nasty little bait-and-switch (and, were I signed up, I'd be tempted to do a little consumer protection law reading).
I'm going to be in San Diego on vacation, instead.

Post by: Hulksmash
I've already asked if some money would be coming back as the the price they originally set was for a 2-day, 5 game event. I'm waiting on a response.
It's even more frustrating because there is a RTT down in San Diego on Saturday that will have almost the same number of 40k guys, will be 3 games, but will only cost $10......

Hey Y'all
Like you I got the letter this morning also.
I'm looking into adjusting the Painting scores to match a 4 game tournament vs a 5 game tournament so paint will not be event worth more then it should be. (I'll probobly just muliply by .8)
Sports and Battle are fine and will not be adjusted.
Any other questions about why or how or anything not related to rules need to be directed to Mondo as I will not have answers for you.

Yeah, $60 or a one day event is pretty crazy. It is still a Golden Ticket event though, which is the only silver lining I can see.

So no one signed up, and the organizers are going to lose money. that sucks, but you know who's fault it ISN'T?
The guys that signed up.
I am about to dump thousands of dollars into tables and terrain to host our groups RTTs and GTs away from game stores. I have no allusions about how 'lucrative' running warhammer tourneys is going to be. Its for the love, period.

Sorry guys, but wholy crap, I feel like I've just dodged a bullet with this one...
I hope all of you can get your money back... In my opinion, even those that are still going should get something back. You paid for a 2-day 5 round tournament and even booked rooms for the event.
As I'm curious, can someone post up the email or PM it to me to read?

Post by: Reecius
Hi gang,
If you are receiving this email it is because you are a registered player for our GT Qualifier this coming weekend. We have a very small number of players involved, and the last thing we will ever do is cancel an event ever again, so this is what we came up with to make this first year effort viable.
With only 19 players total at the moment, we will be able to hold the event as a One Day event on this Saturday June 26. With the number of players involved, we really only need four rounds to declare winners for the event, so we will be running four rounds on Saturday.
We have booked a venue that is more suited to the size of the event, and yet, is still close enough for those of you who choose to stay at the original hotel. (The hall is just under 1.5 miles from the hotel.)
The new location for the event is the Knights of Columbus hall located at 1127 N. Anaheim Blvd, Anaheim CA 92801. I've attached a google map attachment to the new location from the old location. Here is the link.
It is important that we hear back from each of you in the next couple of days to verify that everyone has received this information. Once you respond, we will send you a schedule for the day.
On a very positive note, the board building and terrain building projects are going well. We will have all very high quality boards and terrain for the event. Thanks to Ray Gonzales and his gang for their help. We will be storing the boards in the OC area, so that the community can have access to them at the St Crispin's Irregular meetings held at the same venue throughout the year.
I will be sending out updates a few times a day with who has responded and who we are still waiting on, as some of you might know some of the other folks playing and be able to call them directly if they miss this email.
We have prize support to hand out, and most importantly, four golden tickets to award to the winners of each of the tournaments.
Thanks for your understanding as we do everything we can to go through with the event, yet keep from losing thousands while we build this new tournament in the OC area.
Also, each of you will be eligible to purchase a ticket to our second show in the OC the weekend of November 5-6, the Orange County Crush, for only $1. Our way of saying thank you for supporting our new effort.
Take care,
Mondo
That's the letter.

Thanks Reece... By reading that, my guess is that there won't be any money coming back to you guys and instead you are able to pay $1 for their tournament in November...
The funny thing is that with 19 people registered, they ended up with more than I thought they would... Given what happened in Vegas, and that there was very little advertisment for the event outside of this thread, I wonder just how many people they expected?
Well for you guys still going, best of luck to you... My guess is that on this short notice that their email won't reach everyone to respond in time and where they have 19 guys signed up to play now it will probably be more like 10 people playing at their new location.
On a good note, there's still an RTT at Game Empire in SD on the same day, and I hear that there is a GW auction going on from 3-6 PM on Saturday night at the Battle Bunker.

Gentlemen,
I don't have a horse in this race, as I'm 3000 miles away, but I'll throw my 2 cents in.
If you want your money back, and don't want to go, there should be absolutely no reason for them not refunding your money. They changed the venue, changed the event. It's now a different event. Legally, and morally, they can't keep your money if you want a refund, and contact them in a timely manner.

Yeah, but it was confirmed it is still a Golden Ticket event, so the munchkin in me says this may be a really good time to get that ticket....although the few guys going are good, so it is conceivable to play the same player twice, which would be pretty weak sauce.

I'm glad I wasn't reassured enough early on to plan a trip around a 2 day event (that is now 1) that isn't happening where it was supposed to. Short notice cancelling of Vegas and now this last minute change, I have not attended a ConQuest event (my local one was cancelled) and after reading all this I will surely never plan on attending one in the future. I'm just glad I did not pre-purchase for Vegas or this one.

I have been busy and I have not been able to write him, but I think you write Mondo (Vega?) instead of Doc Dragon for a refund. Doc is just a judge.
I have no idea what they are thinking with the way they are promoting this event. Doc did a little bit to give us some info, but compare this to what MVBrant is doing in the NOVA open thread to make sure he is getting the players to show up. Here is a news flash, you can't dangle Golden Tickets to Vegas and charge $60 and expect people to show up without putting in any effort.
It is grounds enough to demand your money back out of pure incompetence that the TO is showing. All of their events so far have been a fiasco, and I hope Games Workshop takes away any further invitations to the Las Vegas GT from them.

Doh.. guess it will just be Shep and I then
2 night stay at a hotel, $60 ticket to an RTT... I got burned
I agree that marketing was poor for this. I did see a flyer at hte LA Battle Bunker, but that was it other than on this board and the GW site (as an option for LV GT), but that was it.
Lesson Learned.
Whats really sad is the poor "business" logic this represents for them. They cancel an event, but have anotherone scheduled. So all the people that planned early got burned. They have another event, and attempt to adjust based on early sign ups, but since people watching saw that their other event was cancelled they want to wait unilt last minute to commit to coming. But wait, as a result of less early sign ups, they adjust event, and then prove to the consumer that it was the better option to wait. So now, they have yet another event in the future and ... Fool me once shame on thee, fool me twice shame on me.
Word of advice, if you expect to succeed start think about rebranding, "avalon conquest" is dead And once you rebrand, think like a business, and plan on losing money when you start up these endeavors, build a brand, and then you will be able to cover your costs. Don't tarnish your name by trying to cover the costs for every event, thats self defeating.
A rant and a ramble...

Anybody else heard back from them on the revised schedule yet? It's been over 40 hours since the last email I got and since the tourney is less than 48 hours away I was wondering if anyone had heard what time it starts at and what time it ends?
26032
Post by: Wolflord Patrick
I still have my suspicions that this whole thing will probaby cancel at the last minute...
Reading through the email that was sent to you guys there are a couple parts that stand out to me. The first one is this part:
"It is important that we hear back from each of you in the next couple of days to verify that everyone has received this information. Once you respond, we will send you a schedule for the day."
This is the second:
"Thanks for your understanding as we do everything we can to go through with the event, yet keep from losing thousands while we build this new tournament in the OC area."
When I read that, what it tells me is that they probably won't hear back from everyone who registered and if enough people request a refund that they're probably going to cancel the tournament all together as it wouldn't be cost effective for them at this point.... If I were to take a guess, I'd think that an email will go out at the very last minute today or tomorrow that states something like, "Due to the lack of local participation for this tournament we regret that we will have to... However, as we are sorry for those that registered we will allow them to play in our tournament in November for free."
Another thing that strikes me funny is that once they moved the location and adjusted to a 4-round tournament instead of 5. I wonder if they took into account just how long of a day that would be? Assuming that each round is 2.5 hours long that is a 10 hour day not including time set aside for registration, breaks, lunch, awards, and maybe dinner... Add those in and you're really looking at a 13-14 hour day easy. Are they providing lunch (and possibly dinner) to the players?
This thing is really turning into a train wreck fast.

@Wolflord Patrick I'm actually worried that they will cancel it last minute. And I had thought of how long a day saturday is going to be. We're talking starting at 8 and ending at 8 if we're lucky. I remember when GW used to run 4 games on saturday GT's and it was a marathon that normally ended around 9pm. I'm going to be more than upset if they cancel at the last minute as we're already putting up with a change in venue and a massive change to the event. So I heard back from Doc after I sent him an email this morning. It looks like they are just going to add the 4th game on to the current schedule after a 30 minute break at the end of game 3. This would mean dice down for the tournament at 9:30pm with prizes to follow.

Hey Y’all
Couple of things
1) For refunds you need to e-mail Mondo.
2) The event will not be canceled, even if just 2 players show up.
3) Yes, it will be a long day on Saturday, but I’ll do the best I can to make things run smoothly and I hope enjoyable to those who play. I believe we are adding a 30 minute break after round 3 and before round 4.
4) I’ve been told there will be a concession stand available for food.
Hope that helps

Hi gang,
We've had a question about the scoring for the event with having only four games in place instead of five. What we are going to do is take your paint score, and then reduce it to 80% (multiply the score by .8) of the score, so it stays in proportion with the other scores.
Check in - 8:00am
1st game - 9:00am
Lunch break - 11:30am - 12:30pm
2nd game - 12:30pm - 3:00pm
3rd game - 3:30pm - 6:00pm
4th game - 7:00pm - 9:30pm
Cleanup and Awards - 9:30pm on
The new location for the event is the Knights of Columbus hall located at 1127 N. Anaheim Blvd, Anaheim CA 92801. I've attached a google map attachment to the new location from the old location. Here is the link.

I hope it does go on for you and the other guys.
I remember the old style GW Grand Tournaments. I played in Seattle back in 2001 when the GT cost was $135 that included your hotel room and 3 buffets. (Good Times) You're right about the marathon it was on that first day, but at least it was in the hotel where everyone was staying so after your 4th game you could go up and crash-out in your room.

What happened?
8617
Post by: Hulksmash
So 14 people showed up.
I won overall, Shep took second overall.
Venue was very hot though spacious enough.
Terrain was very open except for a table or two so shooty armies had a field day. The results reflected this (top BP's in order were SW, IG, IG). Buildings didn't have bases on them which is a pet peeve of mine.
It did run on schedule for the day and went very smoothly. Was it worth $60? Only because I pulled in my golden ticket so basically no. If they hadn't changed the format and venue with less than a week to go I would have had praises for them and would have considered worth the price. Prize support was fine. They are going to ship us plaques with our name on it in September so that they can do a bulk order.
As it is the tourney wasn't the trainwreck I was expecting and everyone there was having a good time from what I could see. But Gabriel Vega has a long road ahead of him to rebuild his credibility with the community for running Indy GT's.

Grimnar
Dreadnought w/ AC and HF
2xLone Wolves w/Power Weapons, 1 Has a Melta bomb
WG:
2xTeminators w/ SS+ WC
1xTerminator w/2 WC's
1xTerminator

1xTerminator w/Cyclone and Chainfist
3xWG w/Combi-Melta
1xWG w/Combi-Flamer

With the price that they charged and no advertising, most of the competitors were after a golden ticket, so it is not a surprise that over 50% of the armies were IG, BA and SW.

It was right at 50% for those 3 armies together. And one of the Guard players had a fair amount of Inquisitor allies and a list that wasn't really optomized. But if they will not give me back my money it is either sue them, or show up at one of their conventions with bad intentions.

I vote if you have a friend that's a lawyer put that letter head to good use. You'd be amazed how many people respond swiftly when facing legal action. It's not like it wouldn't be cheaper than a lawyer to do refunds. Good luck guys.

So this is the information from the Conquest GT page:
Mondo Vega
Tournament Organizer
"Doc" Dragon
Head Judge
So I guess Mondo Vega's real name is Gabriel Vega. I can find his personal information if I have a few more clues. Does anyone know what city he lives in? How old is he etc?
I guess I can get it from Doc Dragon because of his name I can get all of his personal information easy enough. But he seems like a nice guy and I do not want to drag him trough the mud unless I have to.
Maybe this is a job for Tasty Taste. Whenever a 40K player calls out an injustice, he is there to right wrongs! Plus he is in the bay area where they are located as well.

Hey Y'all
I'm not sure I can help much here.
As a FORMER employee of Gabriel and ConQuest I don’t have much pull.
I would suggest you contact:
Gabriel Vega <mondo@avalongamecon.com>
Keisha Patterson <metrognome@avalongamecon.com>
And if you don’t get an answer call GW.
As for me, after not getting paid for working in LA and some other issues with the Santa Clara GT it is clear that I was working for the wrong person. Too bad, I enjoyed traveling and meeting new players, but in the end it was a job for me and once I don’t get paid, well as you can guess I’m not very interested in working for him again.
It is possible I still might get paid, and y’all will get your refunds and or prize support after Pacificon next weekend, but I’m not holding my breath.
I wish you all the best. Where I can I'll push a bit to see if I can help, but I don't know where Gabriel lives or how to reach him except via e-mail.
I'll keep you posted if I learn of anything? Please PM me if you get something also.
Doc

I'm sorry to hear about that Doc. You seemed like a good guy. I was extremely glad I didn't drop and expect a refund because when my buddy that was there playing Orks saw who was running the tournament he had less than kind things to say about Gabriel who used to run a hobby shop in Ventura county where my buddy worked for another game shop. I just noticed that Mondo is still trying to run GT's in the Northwest and claiming to be a qualifier for the GW GT. I think I'll shoot GW an email since they definitely don't want to be seen in business with Gabe. Oh and Doc, you might want to check out the website: http://conquestgt.avalongamecon.com/index.html He's still got you listed as head judge on 2/3 events on the page.

Yep, I know about the web page. I've asked to be removed.
Take care all, I'll be around keeping an eye on the forum to stay in contact with y'all.
Doc Automatically Appended Next Post: Just a thought, if you paid via Credit Card you can always call the bank and have them reverse the charge.

What a bummer all around.
Thanks Doc for your help, I emailed those people and have heard nothing from them. I am going to call PayPal and try to reverse the charges.
That is such shady practice and totally unprofessional. They should at least write us back and let us know what's going on, even if there have been delays.
Well, i am going to write a letter to GW and post some info stating the facts about what's been going on with these jokers all over the place. They are giving the hobby a bad name with their crappy practices. Automatically Appended Next Post: Wow. Mondo is a true scum bag, or at least appears to be.
He told me to wait for 6 weeks to get my refund....just long enough to not be able to file a claim with PayPal I just found out.
I filed a complain with PayPal and they refunded half my money as a courtesy and are trying to contact Mondo to resolve the issue.
I am now writing GW and am gong to draft a letter to spread through the net community to let others know just how shady this guy and his "business" are. Automatically Appended Next Post: I just got off the phone with GW and as soon as I mentioned Conquest GT's, the rep, John Hollingsworth, said, wait, is this guy named Mondo?
I laughed.
Apparently he's had a lot of problems and GW want nothing to do with the guy.
This dude is a snake. I want o make sure as many people as possible know to avoid him and his events like the plague.

Actually, I have a question:
Will Hulksmash and the other guys that won "Golden Tickets" at the LA Conquest be honored? Especially since that was the draw for the 16 or so people that did show up...
Also, I'm guessing that the winners never received those plaques that were supposed to show up with your names engraved on them as well? (I'm just guessing...)

No plaque although that isn't suppose to show up for another month or so or something. Not really a big deal to me. But as for the ticket I've been told by several different TO's that they recieved an email before the event that the golden tickets would be honored from LA and that was the last one for Vega. I've also popped an email in to make sure as well which I expect a response to in the next week or so. I'm not as worried about the golden ticket since at least 2 of the TO's that recieved the email are both people I trust. I just don't want anyone else to get hosed like several people already have.

Doc, you have my sympathies.

@Blackmoor
The money just came out of nowhere. He wasn't answering my emails or phone calls. I started letting the community know about what he was doing and all of a sudden the money just appeared. I talked to PayPal and they called him as well, but as far as I know, he never responded to them.

Thanks, but I wanted to clear up a few bits of wrong info.
My Traveling expense was paid for, I just didn't get my fee for being a judge. After being told it would be a week (back after the LA GT) now it's after Pacifcon this weekend. I'll wait till Tuesday and send a request for payment.
Whether or not I get paid I'll not be helping or attending any event run by Mondo. Which in the end is a shame. I did consider him a friend until recently. I guess I'm not as good at judging character as I thought.
