Two years ago I started a thread that eventually became the Pokeminis P&M blog thread here on Dakka.
Eventually I named my gaming blog pokeminiatures on blogspot.
I stopped updating the thread when the end of 2009 hit.
Now it's five months into 2010 and I'm ready to start painting again. I tried to start sooner,
but I hit a wall painting some historical figs. However, I've nearly completed some terrain
and made progress on the Soviets and so will start updating regularly.
Disclaimer: I don't really post in a timely fashion to change anything. The best I can do
with your advice is use it for the next iteration of the project posted.
Here's a start: Soviet tanks and arty for FOW.

I was literally just looking at your FoW stuff in the gallery and wondering what became of it. Glad to see more is on the way, looks like good progress on the tanks already. The russian armour looks like so much fun to paint.

I didn't get any real hobbying in again until April, when the guys at Black Sun Games came
to make some Warmachine terrain to earn their Combat Engineer stamps for the league.
I built a bunch of houses using Gareson's method of attaching two pieces of 2" foam
together, cut a roofline with a utility blade, then brought materials with me so that the
guys could dress it up.

Thanks for the welcome.
Take a look at the second image. That's a temple flameguard testing out
the size of my trench system.

So for the Warmachine league, we needed flag stands for the finale. I looked around for
some flags, and finally I decided to use the stamper that I was provided as league organizer.
I got 40mm bases from Litko, thick brass rod, and proceeded to set the rod into the bases at
various angles to simulate a flag pitched into the dirt. You can see my method for basing
here as I apply regular sand to the bases and prime the whole thing all at once to help
seal the sand and give me a good color to paint on.

Pffft. There's quality, then there's quantity.
Here's how the flag looks.
I stamped each side of a piece of paper folded over. Then when it was dry I dipped
the whole thing in watered down white glue and curled the paper different ways for
the "flag effect." Overall, I think it looks okay.

Well, I was counting the 24 flags that I did since I spent a bit of time cutting them

Actually, I double their use. I can line them up as LOS blocking terrain, or I can use
them as large based objectives for scenarios like Destruction in Warmachine (in fact,
they were made specifically FOR the destruction scenario).

Without terrain I'm looking at 102-61= 41 models.
The trouble is, I do the terrain because I run events. And because I run events, that
means that I have to multiples of any piece of terrain that I make.

You truly are a painting machine, malfred. I'm hoping to get my Avalancher mostly finished tonight, and get Basher #2 assembled & primed. Fortunately, the Avalancher is mostly down to doing the gold and some detail work.
It's still special, I just don't remember if it had a different name. Basically the unit
hits harder and can shoot further if they're within x inches of him. I don't remember
what all it did in Mk1.
Meh, I'm not a machine. I cheat this a bit by taking a bunch of pictures as I go and
stretching it out in blog posts. It's the only sane way to do it.

I have a full unit of Stormblades with UA that I painted last year. On my shelf I have
a Stormguard unit and a unit of cavalry with Katherine Laddermore.
So now 'm back to posting pictures of terrain pieces. These are armorcast pieces put
onto 50mm bases for the Warmachine Destruction scenario.

The broken columns are neat pieces. They're a little bigger than the 50mm base, but that's
fine because I like them. The other piece is a display base for pieces that's supposed to
look like your model is standing on a roman aqueduct or something (I guess).
Filthy Brown base on the columns with a Brown Ink wash from Vallejo, then highlighted up
to Bleached Bone.
I was lazy with the stone plinth and just used it to test out Terracotta paint color from Vallejo.

This is one of my favorite Armorcast pieces so far, the bone tower. There were some
mold problems with it, most noticeably there are places I probably should have sanded
the piece down, but otherwise the chains and ropes holding the pile of bones together
add a lot of character to this piece.

Dysartes, I'm not sure. Probably a good rule of thumb is to start at 50/50 and see how
the results turn out. Just be careful. When the paper's wet it tears much more easily.

Me painting lots of different things IS me "concentrating on one project." The project
is called "Paint lots of different things." By setting army ADD as a goal, I don't feel bad
when progress on any single one army stalls. I start something else and come back to
the original project when I feel ready.
Some pieces DO set themselves up as singular goals, however, such as the Avatar/

I should post pictures of the near finished models early Saturday or so. I'll upload finished pictures here, too, hopefully on Sunday. I also have to figure out what my next batch is.

Malf, you are a mad man. I've painted one squad of Grey Hunters and in the same time you've done about three to four times that. I think your idea of switching it up more frequently is something I'll be trying and should keep me from getting bored as quickly.

Malf is a machine, no other explanation is possible. Good job on the everblight, that is the first protector I have seen painted.

It works for me. It takes me longer to get a playable force up, but the fun thing is
when I do finally get one playable force up, suddenly I have two or three.

Nah, I just have no life.
The pics posted here are batches 3 and 4. One is a set of trollbloods, the other is a set of
Cryx.

So while working on my Cryx set for a Lich Lord Venethrax Theme Force, I decided to try my hand at drybrushing bronze over green to get a nice weathered armor. The last time I tried it, I used a green ink over bronze:

It looked okay, I thought. But then I saw a different method that involved painting everything before you put down the metals, and I started out with this:

The rest is on my blog...

Blighted Trollkin Bloodgorgers are expensive models, but they convinced me to
buy into Cryx back when I started.

Miscalculated when I ordered this batch of miniatures and I'm short two stone scribes, so
I can only run them as a minimum unit for now. Sad face.

This is how bad things get sometimes. I've painted miniatures to represent
the characters my brother and I play in the online role-playing game, Lord
of the Rings Online. The halfling on the left is a Guardian (tank), the Elf on
the right is a burglar (though he's a man burglar in the game). We have several
other characters we use, but for a while these were the main ones.

Nice to see somethign other than GW models for a change. I always liked the style of the Warmachine mini's.

I'm not even the best painter of this stuff. I'd check out moz, Dysartes or metsuri.
Anyway.

Thanks for the buff Malf!
The 100 points you've painted is just insane, the Immortals look great and oxidation on the cryx seems to work well. I have to try that sometime.

These guys are supposed to be like terracotta warriors, except I'm not
quite sure how to paint terracotta so I just went with brown. The last
version of them blended into the basing, so I used inserts to help the
models stand out.

I bought these models unsure if I wanted to use them. They're not very pretty,
they have limited usefulness, but each one is pretty darn cheap at 4 points. I'm
thinking about fielding them and other kreas/drakes in my zaal list to give me
extra fury batteries and extra anti-ranged defense to cover the battlefield.

Despite the MC Hammer pants, Marketh was fun to paint. The extoller is a second such
model for my army, so I can' really say much about it. The plan is to use it for my
Zaal theme force.

Good job on the skorne.
The basilisk drake has magical spray, I think thats gonna prove useful especially with the amount of shooting skorne has.

Going back to September, the family had a couple really rough patches, so I
spent much of the league finale trying to get back on the wagon and painting (I
hadn't done so since July). The third pic shows what the table looked like
at the end of the session while I was at the game store.
