Some are insane, some only buy what they paint, what is yours like?

Ive got an extra bedroom thats been turned into my miniature room, like 14 or 15 armies in various stages of being converted. Throw in all the painting and modeling supplies....and it takes up alot of space.

I haven't had any money to buy miniatures lately, so I'm nearly out of stuff to paint. Usually, I have a couple of units that have the bare minimum colors to be considered painted that are waiting on more attention, so it's all a work in progress.

I have about 36 unfinished models laying around, not including my FW Space Marine =o

i have maybe a good 60-70 models unpainted/primed black.

Not many, a WIP sorcerer, and a couple of sonic marines

I have a ton of un-painted troops but most my larger models or hq and elites get painted the rest is just so tedious sometimes.

I have yet to paint:
A squad of Fire Dragons,
A squad of Guardians,
A Deathleaper,
and a War Walker.

So depressing looking at unpainted models, but my eyes are bigger than my belly when it comes to purchasing and getting time to paint.

I'm firmly in the other camp ... around 13-14k pts of unpainted 40k stuff, all thats really painted is my eldar sans the fire prisms, and half my orks ... everythign else is in either grey or primed white or black lol .... pretty depressing really, though im making headway on my tyranids ... my first trygons like 5% done after like 3 hours :(

I've just got a couple from my PCS to paint, then I have to go and buy more. I never buy more than one box at a time, and always finish painting them before going after the next unit.

About 10 units of Eldar including a FW Vampire Raider
Countless Grots and parts to make 2 squads of GrotBurnas and 2 squads of GrotLootas, 1FW MegaDread plus FW parts to make a second.
About 6 Plaguemarine units plus 2 FW dreads and a FW Chaos Warhound Titan.
3 or 4 bloodbowl teams...

OMG, I just started a list of the crap I dont have painted and got kinda sick at myself. I have like 150 models from Marines to Land Raiders not even filed! Another 60 Primed and a few wips! Need to stop buying so much stuff! But ive gotta stock up before the price hike, that seems like a good excuse!

All I have is Assault on Black Reach (although I'm gonna get a Rhino soon), and I've painted all of my marines except for three of the terminators. None of my Orks are painted yet.

I currently have a Daemon army halfway finished and after that I have to start working on my new BA army..................sigh.

Well I've Currently got 1 Warpwolf, 1 Argus, 1 Box of Orc Boyz (WHFB), 1 Goblin Spear Chukka, and 20 Night Goblins to paint. I'm using the Boyz and Night Goblins for Mordhiem. When I finish with my Circle Orboros stuff I'll be at exactly 15 points for it.

Sorry to admit it but none of mine are actually finished. I have 3000 points of goblins, 2500 marines and 3000 dark elves. Unfortunately most are painted but none are based.

Oh, let's seee.... In terms of completely built yet unpainted models, I have about 9 orks, a couple of space marines... but if you add in my pieces still under construction.... oh... 6 tactical marines, the basing of a seraphim, a repentia, some of those 9 orks, some stormtroopers, another seraphim, and don't even get me started on the stuff I haven't yet started but envision. From that, I have an imperial squad to get more inspiration for (5 more peeps need inspiration), and IG squad that will need crouchers, a moving chimera, some noise marines, a full-ish repentia squad (different models from different ranges), more seraphims, some magnetized SM heavy/ special weaponmen, some imperial bikers, etc. The list goes on. Oh yes, and to add to that built/ partially built list are an honour guard, a TS chaplain, and a TS veteran sergeant. And maybe some more mortars for my imperials. And maybe a Rogue Trader. And maybe.....

I've got very little unpainted stuff.

I've got a SM commander,tigurius, an honour guard marine, 4 nobz, several dozen termaguants, 2 nid warriors,15 ork boyz and a valkyrie as WIPs.
As for unpainted...a couple odds and ends from AoBR (the deffkoptas and some nobz) and some stripped marines....

Almost everything I have is a WIP, considering I've got to re-paint every model I own (I've gotten so many better paints now..Just looking at my old mordian Blue Ultramarines makes me sick...enchanted blue is way better)

I've got 4 black reach sets worth of orks as yet unpainted, along with another 100 slugga boys, and and any number of other ork vehicles. Orks are never-ending, and they keep making cool new stuff too, so there will be boar riders to add to this soon too.

A couple of tanks for my Emperor's Children, a Cleaved army that I'm logging progress on, some Eldar jetbikes if I ever get around to them, and an IG Vostroyan army with over 200 infantry yet to do.

I may have a 1,000 painted models.

Unpainted, there's probably about 4 or 5,000 models. I'd guess 500 or so assorted sci-fi stuff, 1,000 fantasy models, and the rest historicals.

Just a ten Marines for me. Just primed them today.

Definitely over 6. I've barely put a dent in either of my armies and one of them is orks, so "unit" means a hell of a lot more painting than a tac squad. Then again, my marines have a decent number of vehicles, even if the troop count is way lower...

Ive just rounded around 8000 points of ether unpainted models or WIP. Hooray!
Painting is a punishment. That's my opinion.

Just 2 units at the moment. A squad of converted deathkopters & 10 marines. Though i have just gone and bought a load of Lizardmen so they are to be added to the unpainted pile soon.

I usualy don't buy new figures till I have finished whatever I am currently working on; I find that if I don't do it that way, stuff rarely gets finished.

Plus WFB Goblins, Undeath, Beastmen and Skavens...

I saw them, I liked, I bought and I promised to paint... then I saw other increadibly awsome unit and the cycle start... Till now. I'n not going to buy anything until everything is painted... or 50% at least... but they are so nice...

After a painting binge last week to get ready for an Apoc game this Wed, I'm down to 3-4 units that are unpainted. Still have one Fire Prism to churn out, two War Walkers and my Dire Avenger squad. So close...then I can post up a picture of my 6500 points of Eldar. Kind of excited to do that. :-)

I have 16 unpainted models, but I voted 20+ because it's close enough.

I have a unit of three warriors that are unprimed and unpainted along with a HT and a few straggling gaunts. Slowly gettin through it though.

For me the urge to buy is often much more overwheliming than the urge to paint

I have about 3000pts of unpainted Tau (5x12 fire warriors, 3 hammerheads, 4 devilfish, 12 crisis suits, 3 broadsides, 4 piranhas, 15 stealth suits, 4 sniper teams), 1000pts of unpainted Kroot, some WHFB Chaos (12 Warriors, 5 knights, and about 6 different heroes/lords) some WHFB High Elves (8 silver helms, 15 swordmasters).

Not counting the models I just buy off ebay because they're cheap, even though I have no real use for them - got 20 metal DE corsairs and 20 HE Shadow Warriors for $2, a display set of LOTR Fellowship (complete with resin display base) for $10, a Balrog, some Juan Diaz daemonettes and seekers....

My pile of unpainted stuff is far bigger than it should be but for the past year or so I have been painting more than I am buying so I think that is a positive trend.

About 20 plus boxes of random stuff. I would have a lot more were it not for recent ebay activity.

Well ntohing is every fully completed its a state of mind. I get all my stuff up to at least a decent standard and then keep gonig back to the madding highlights washes ect. I have about 5 or 6 units am always worknig on lol .Them being at a decent level means I can game with them and then still work on them afterwards.

I'm part-way through painting my Wood Elves (5 units and 2 characters left), and also working on my Necromunda Enforcers (3 left to paint, 8 to touch up/add detail, 1 Repressor left to paint). My Dark Elves have been shelved too long, sadly, since in my immediate gaming group Fantasy is very much second fiddle to 40k. So, I've still got most of 2000pts of Dark Elves to do one day. It's really finding time in between going to work, looking for a different job, and talking to my long-distance girlfriend. I try to prioritize - at the moment I'm writing and running a Necromunda campaign, so of course the Enforcers are paramount =)

I have armies worth of stuff still on the sprue. It is ridiculous.

Sometimes seeing all the unpainted armies isnt exactly an encouraging sight. If anything it intimidates me to NOT bother picking up the brush -_-

All of my units are painted, but since I have recently switched paint schemes, They are mostly the wrong color.

I have eight vehicles primed and in need of paint to finish my IG army (I buy whole armies at a time usually)

Normally, I try really hard to have everything that I use painted to some degree. However, I just bought another Space Wolves' battleforce, and I built it for use in an apoc game, but have not gotten around to painting it yet. I have that to paint, all 3 units worth.

This year for 'ard boyz i really wanted my army to be painted so i managed to finish all but three thousand sons. so my chaos army is almost completely done and my blood angels just need the sanguinary and death company done, and the new special chars but they won't get touched until i can master the non metal, metal look.

good luck with that warriors of mayhem. I tried that non-metallic paint scheme with some thousand sons, it took way too long and required too many paints to look good...It looks sexy as shell tho...

Ogre Battallion + extra bulls & belchers + Tyrant +Ninja Maneater +Butcher +Hunter +trappers +extra gnoblars (my project for the rest of the year, and likely then some)

A few misc Inquistion models + a handful of various orcs and dwarfs - maybe 10 of these total, and in no hurry on them.

35+ night goblins + a few spiders (that need to be converted to Night Goblin spider riders).

On the plus side - I've done pretty good this year on my "no new stuff until I get loads of this stuff painted* pledge. I've only bought a handful of minis that were steals or rareish on ebay.

I still need to paint my army... and for some reason I just keep buying more models to not paint... come to think of it... I just bought an unpainted Tau army...

It is like I have some sort of special spin off of the black rage... the grey lethargy... Whenever I see my unpainted models, on a roll of a number... I remember how fun playing 40k is...

I only have 4 or 5 unpainted units, primed and ready to paint, i've begun work on 2 of them. Of my many armies, they're all i have left to paint.

1 Passel Confrontation minis (don't know where I'm gonna use them)
About 40 Warmachine minis
3 Bns 15mm French Marines (1813)
A couple Bns of 1813 Prussian infantry and a dragoon Rgt (15mm)
A bunch of French artillerists (15mm)
I don't know how many miscellaneous minis are lurking in dark corners.
But considering what I have that is painted I'm not complaining. Hey, you can't die with unpainted lead.

i have over 3000 pts of eldar unpainted :( and even more LOTR stuff :( :( :(

I found a bunch of marines for the cheap and now have a company of unpainted marines bar 2 tac squads.
And a Nid starter army for half so another 70 models
Then the 3 squads or so IG to finish up.


Now granted, I don't need any more Salamander marines as I have 7 tac, 2 assault, 2, dev, and 2 scout squads. All primed and waiting. And waiting

So here's a trick I do, I bag'em into smaller sizes like 10-15. That way one bag on my workspace seems easy and the extra number gets a few more done when I do paint the basic colors. I keep the little details like squad number or other idiosyncriosies for last so that I can line them up and make a headcount. Works so far.

I've got somewhere around 10 Units yet to paint... The vast majority of my units are painted though.

I don't love painting, but I prefer playing with painted models so I force myself to do it. I'd give them maybe a 5 on a scale of 1-10 as far as skill goes, but they look good on the table. Just don't look too closely!

Well after working for GW I have maybe $5000-$8000 of unpainted product.

About 7k Eldar, 3k Orks, 8k Tomb Kings painted, plus lots of random models I just liked painting.

I've just gotten started into 40K and unfortunatly I got two squads of 10 Chaos Marines, 2 rhinos and a daemon prince unpainted but only because I dont want to spend the last remnants of the money I got left on paint. Luckily since I'm going Black Legion once I prime them they're already half done.

Wow... let's see.

- I figure about 5k of painted-done Imperial Guard... the other 10k are in various states of "almost done".
- About 2k of my Tau are painted-done... the other 11k are, well, not.
- 80% of my 'Nids are in their base color... a whopping two squads have their finalized details.
- None of my SMs are done. That was an investment for the future... when Black Reach came out, I did mass splits and hoarded trades and swapps, so I won't go there.

I get bored painting the same thing over and over again with my Tyranids, so I hop back and forth between the umpteen billion models I have to paint.

It also means I don't get a lot done of any one army, but in general "stuff gets painted." Eventually.

Yea, I dabble back and forth as well. Last half of 2009 was Tau. Then with Tanksgiving I switched back to IG. Last month I moved into 'Nids. So we'll see where I go next...

I've got about 16000 points of Emperor's Children, about 2500 of which is "completely" painted, another 2000 or so is "mostly" painted, maybe another 2000 is "has had paint touch it" and then the rest is either black primered or gray.

But then I have about 5000 points of Warriors of Chaos, only one unit of warriors, one chariot, two characters and a unit each of marauders and marauder horsemen is painted.

Roughly 3500 points of sisters of battle, NONE of which is painted [or rather some is painted very poorly by the guy I bought them from, and needs to be redone]

3500 points of Vampire Counts, about 1500 of which is painted

About 120 points of Protectorate Warmachine, only one units of knights exemplar, one seneschal, and one Castigator painted.

Technically I also have my fiance's Eldar army, 3000 points, all unprimed plastic

And her 2000 ish points of Dark Elves, not even built!

Oh, let's not forget my Warmaster army, I don't even remember how many points of that I have.

Then there's Battlefleet Gothic, about 5000 points of Imperial, roughly 2500 of which is painted.

Hello, my name is Travis, and I am a...........40k addict, it has been 2 weeks since my last purchase.

I have currently 2 fully painted 2500 armies (Salamanders, Daemons), and 1 that is on the way to being done this month (Space Wolves). I also have an Air Guard Army to get to that is just mostly base coated, and 5000+ points of orks to paint, 2500 of that needs to be built and kustomizd first.

Well over 200 pounds worth in the shrink wrap. Several thousand dollars worth.

A 10-man devastator squad, Half a Command Squad, one Dreadnazi, and a 10 Man Assault Squad. Then it's just a matter of buying more METEL BAWKSES for my Tactical Squads.

I have most of two PM Rhinos to paint, and I have 20 ghouls/skeletons left to paint as well.

I quite amazed that the highest percentage of repsondents are those with well over 50 units.

Roughly 5 40k armies of 3000pts or more to paint; that's not to say they are all unpainted - some are old paintjobs that need to be revisited, some are ebay horrors that need redoing.

I tend not to open masses of boxes first, when I paint an army. Rather, I open a box, assemble, prime and paint. Then I do another box.
This means I don't get huge waves of despair looking at the seas of grey I would have left to paint after the first unit of the army!

Oi... a few AoBR sets worth, whatever the WHFB version of the same is, a stormsword box, the defiler + stompa I am working into a super heavy, oh a scratch built warhound, a platoon or two of cadians, a hell hound still NIB, a few TH/SS termies to finish, a portion of my ork army, the new Ramshackle Spider tank, 3-4 drop pods, ~30-40 models bought for characters from random lines... some buildings... how am I married you ask? Our house has LOTS of little hidden cubby holes, and my wife isn't tall enough to see the higher shelves

I have about 60 - 70 units I reckon - mostly Eldar, with some Chaos. They're all assembled and packed up in plastic boxes. I went off painting for a long time after painting up a huge Apocalypse scale Blood Angels army (all that red!), but i kept collecting and assembling and converting. Thankfully the painting bug has returned to me now, so I can hopefully, slowly, begin to catch up on it. I'm currently putting the finishing touches to some Black Legion Chosen, then I'm painting Flamers of Tzeentch. I can't decide whether to paint all my Chaos and then move on to Eldar, or alternate units e.g Chaos then Eldar then Chaos etc. Help me decide?

I've got to say, converting and assembling takes priority for me! When I do et around to painting it's usually after i have run out of conversions to do!

I generally start an army then get bored... So i have about 50 unpainted but made models because I keep switching. Hopefully I can keep to my Grey Knight army.

i own around 100,000 points of 40k, and i would say that 99.9% of it is unpainted. how many models is that? around 45 armies, each about 2000 points, average of about 60 models each. that's about 2700 unpainted models.

I've got enough unpainted minis to last me for years! I have 4 fantasy armies, 2 40k armies, and various LOTR, and Battle Fleet Gothic. Every time GW comes out with new models for any of my armies I have to get them, and I can never seem to catch up!

Well, probably 5-7 units. But at least 2 of those are ork boyz.

In the case of the orkz, I got 35 done and decided I never wanted to paint another greenskin again. They probably won't see paint for a very long, long time.

Another unit is a squad of Eldar Warwalkers. Never got around to it, and after my policy of only painting models I like came into play, it'll be a while before those get painted too.

Krieg Command Squad needs painting, only 2 of 8 painted, but it's just a matter of time and work and insomnia coming together in a horrible combination.

Same thing for Maugan Ra.

And hopefully not the same thing for the Inquisitor Lord I plan on starting tomorrow.

I think you need a "I have a room full of unpainted models" option for HBMC.

i have a handful of unpainted models between all my armies, maybe 20 total.

i paint to play, so nothing i play with is unpainted. plus im a speed painter so i can crank out units in hours so that helps as well.

I'm working on 3 companies worth of Blood Angels. Got it all primed... now for the 100 cans of mechrite red to basecoat em. Thank the emperor for the spray gun!

My unpainted stock takes up about 9-12 cubic feet in a closet. Probably at least two potential 40k armies, as well as stuff that's not for 40k: like Confrontation, WHFB, and Reaper minis set aside for general fantasy use (such as D&D), an entire shoebox of Clan War minis that either are plain silver or so badly painted that they're going to be stripped and count as unpainted, plus who knows what else in there.

Oh, yeah, there's also one 2-foot-tall spare-parts bits box, and a smaller tackle-sized box full of parts as well.

The bright side is that I've pretty much not bought anything that went into the closet in a couple of years. The only stuff that I've bought in that time has gone pretty much directly to converting and then to painting. I'm gradually working my way through the old stuff as I kick in various projects. The only stuff I've bought that went straight to the closet was a supply of parts for my eventual conversion of a Napoleonic-era dragon in His Majesty's Royal Air Corps (that's waiting for me to be able to justify picking up the $70+ metal dragon that'll be the center of it all).

I actually don't count in my army if they arent painted so all ive got is some scouts unpainted

I have a big squad of 20 gargoyles and some BA, 2 sanguard and a death company box. The gargoyles are built but not painted, the BA are still on the sprues, but ive been waiting to paint them til I get the rest of the army.

My pile of unpainted models has just grown a great deal,and basicly it's my own fault.

My Death Guard had grown to simply ridiculous proportions,over 15 troop choices,so...I decided to trim it down some,keeping only Metal Death Guard (both new and OOP) and forge world Death Guard for troops and stripping all the converted plastic CSM I had done in order to use them for "another legion".

After much simple green soaking and green stuff removeal,I am left with a squeky clean pile of over 40 CSM (plus several Terminators) to repaint .

Now,I just have to decide wich Legion to paint them up/convert them to.

I'll go with other. I strip a lot of old stuff down to repaint when I notice my painting improving over time and have at least maybe 3 or 4 good sized armies worth of models. Maybe 5 as the Eldar I've stripped would make at least 2...

I just came upon some a small force of Tyranids (a trygon,carnifex,13 Genestealers,20-some guants).

I don't really feel compelled to paint them though.....I hate painting anything but flat, smooth models (spesh marines and tau,among others). They just take to long....It might take a couple nights to do a genestealer,ugh. I finished the carnifex in a couple days, but I really doubt I can paint the trygon....*sigh*

It's easier for me to say what I DO have painted...a Whirlwind and 2 Predator conversions plus some part painted Tac and Assault squads. The rest of my Marine army is undercoated Chaos Black...as are my Tau and Ork armies...I much prefer modelling and converting to painting...sad really.

I have more than 50 unpainted models and many half painted figures.

I hate having work left to do. The more I have unpainted, the harder it is for me to buy new models. That said, I still have about 24 boyz, 10 nobz, a bunch of grotz, and 2-3 vehicles left to paint.

what? you can paint them?! omg! But seriously, I'm about 25% painted. I only game with one to two friends, and one is an amazing modeler (hyperviper) and the other is as lazy as me when it comes to painting(gizmodious).

I have almost 50 models of Warriors of Chaos to paint up.

Shoulda just bought them piecemeal, seeing the hordes of grey all ways makes me think that there is no damn way I could finish them.

It would be easier to count unpainted models than units, since most of my miniatures are character models and not part of any unit. But I have about 15 unpainted units, and about 500 unpainted models.

Many of the models will never be painted, often because I bought them for some specific reason then turned out to not need them -- like I bought X monster for a D&D game I was going to run, then didn't get it painted in time, and now have no incentive to ever get it painted.

Ever since I started playing Warhammer though I have been collecting models far, far faster than I can paint them.

I get excited over new projects easily so I have a lot of unfinished models laying around. Thankfully I'm down to owning only 2 armies for fantasy now and I'm trying to get rid of my last 40K army cause I don't play with them. Hopefully some day in the future I'll actually have a fully painted army.

Well over between my two armies... more like 150. I hate painting. I love the converting and assemply part, but hate painting. It doesn't help any that I've changed my Tau color scheme 3 times since I started painting the army either.

Ths is an interesting topic as painting is what got me into this and i find myself now in a crossover point between painting and gaming!

I have generally been a 'paint what you have before buying new new stuff' kinda guy.

But as Im learning the game and now im seeing how my old painting and units are either illegal game wise or dont make sense strategy wise. This has lead me to a rethink not only in painting philosphy (ie markings and schemes) but the impulse buyer in me is emerging as some people ahve mentioend above.
Its a real struggle - its actually funny!

Anyway Im trying to settle into a new balance whereby I never have more than 2 units to paint before buying something new - I just feel naked on the battlefield otherwise ad I refuse for my army to become content over style as this wont reflect the reason I originally got into this amazing hobby!

I do admit though Im already planning my second army in my head when my first is probably only half way done!

I worked it out back when i used to play, and i had about 5K points of CSM, and had painted about 1K. Since then ive bought more models and havent painted many.
The only army i have that is near to completion is my 1K Blood Angels army (and that still needs a HQ and some death company models), I also have 1.5K of vampire counts that is completely unpainted.

I have only 5 tau tanks left and most are primed / base coated. The flying bases are also done so they are ready to roll.

I then have all of my Salamanders Marines from Ireland most of which are painted (badly from about 8 years ago!) and then some new ones.

In that respect there's 25 marines plus 3 HQs (2 need converting), 2 dreads built and a Razorback to make/paint. I need to get another razorback AND then some more mech stuff. Still its the next project.

yeah i got 550 models unpainted my brother has 450

i have like only 5 some models to paint after i went through this rush to get my green tide army painted in time for a tournament. believe it or not but it IS possible to paint a 150 model army in less than a month and still have it look good.

It's a hobby when you have a few you need to paint. It's a passion when you paint and model every night. It's an obsession when you dream about it, but don't really get around to painting them but rather assemble them but postpone various stages of building or painting, thinking more about the coolness of them and how cool it would be to be a mushroom but facing the reality you'd be able to more realistically pull off a guardsman or inquisitor. I play orks, and I dont have 100 hrs a week for 20 years to paint them all.

Hmm. I have nearly everything to finish painting. All my normal CSM are basecoated, half are trimmed, three are finished.
My Plague Marines need to be finished but I need to get another pot of paint before I can do that.
My bloodletters only have one painted(Only have nine, when I opened the box I was missing a piece so I decided to convert it into other things like my Possessed Khorne Lord)
All but two of my Lords are finished and painted.
I still have to finish one obliterator and start painting the other two.
Only one raptor is painted fully, one is basecoated and the other three are untouched.
My defiler is just about done, still need to finish its weapons, my Las pred is nearly finished, my rhino is painted fully and my greater daemon is almost finished.
Oh, I still need to finish my Zerkers, have them base coated and trimmed in red, just need to add detail and make them my own.
I have to trim and finish my chosen and strip/repaint one that my ex did to look like Iron Warriors just to piss me off.

I really limit myself to buying until i know for sure I can complete a paint job on the models I have already

I got an entire 2000 Point Space Wolf Army to paint, A huge Troll army to paint for Hoards, Some Jacks for Warmachine, about 1500 in Lizardmen that has not even been primed yet.
500 Points in Dwarfs, and about 2500 Points of Orks to paint including going back to everything I ever painted and making it painted better!

I have a High Elf Dragon Mage, still in a sealed box I bought during the original release.

I've got quite a few units of SMs, Eldar, CSM and Tyranids sitting around that I bought but never got around to painting. However, if I consider the mountains of Orcs and Goblins, Empire and High Elves I bought back in the late 90s and early 2000s (including 80-some Black Orcs), I can definitely claim 20+ unpainted units. Of course many of these are pretty old models.
This is why I haven't bought anything new in several months and am trying to focus on knocking out some of what I already have.

Hilarious that with the exception of the one blip, the results are a slant / steady increase to the higher amounts, rather than a parabolic curve . I think it is probably partly due to people's common impression of "I have so much to paint!" rather than everyone actually having well over 50 units waiting to be painted.

Still, I'm in a similar boat... I would probably have chosen the second highest option (it seems the poll ended, or I already voted sometime in the past, as I can see the results).

I just had a depressing thought: for all the time I spend painting and enjoying the time away from drama I only have a single model that I consider 'finished'. I think I've done maybe 7 models to completion in a year and a half... o_O I tend to get stuck after they look decent at a distance, then fly off to something else. Oh yea, and none of those finished models I can even use due to either being someone elses or an Ultramarine (unless you like a smurf captain leading a dark angels force)

Funnily enough i had a big sort out at new year.

Currently 120 resin vehicles to paint and around 2500 figures.

I have two 10 man devastator squads, one tac squad, one assault combat squad and one rhino/razorback to do for my marines. I finished up my attack bike today. I have bits for a half a dozen or so more marine models

For my 'Nids I have a tervigon conversion to do, I have the CH kit and the Carnifex already off the sprue and just needs to be prepped. I have a horde of gaunts (IDK how many) that are primed (I have a few that painted in my various 'Nid test colors) and I have 4 Ymgarl Genestealers that are primed as well with 4 still in the pipe, they've been prepped now they just need to be assembled. And I have a a small amount of gaunts that need to be put together still too.

So I don't have a huge amount, but I have enough to keep me busy for a while.

I keep having to tell myself to finish what I have before I start more or buy more.

Of course compared to what I have completed changes the whole dynamic and I it makes what I have unfinished look like a lot more.

I have 60 Imperial Guard infantry to paint.
This is anywhere from 2-6 units on the table.

I'll be getting out of 40k when 6th ed rolls around, so I don't know if I can be bothered finishing the army off, even though I have been working on it for the last 12 years.

It didn't used to be so bad but I have recently stripped the paitn off of most of my minis to give them an upgrade...

If I painted every day for a year I'd besuprised if I got all of them done .... but I love it!

I can buy them faster than I can paint them. I have 2 armys that are not even primed. Its bad but I have been working to catch up. I tend to change a color, or key uniform changing decision halfway through and have to repaint painted models.

I have probably 40 forge world models unpainted at the moment. When I left GW I spent my last months salary on models and they did weight back then so I have probably ten boxes each 4 ft by 4 ft by 4 ft, all unmade! there probably isn't enough time left in my life to assemble and paint them all!! Any one beat that yet?

This is actually worse than others, I think, because my primary focus is on Dark Heresy and other RPGs, so I tend not to buy boxes of minis/units but, instead, single characters....

... and though I have over 200 painted minis, I have an equal amount of unpainted just waiting for me to get a round tuit, and am buying more minis every month.

But, just some examples...

I've managed to amass a 40k ork army just by adding my gorkamorka boxes and 2nd edition orks, plus all my LOTR 'evil' armies, that most.

Mostly from the grand Epic sale, I've got an ork army and some 400 epic marine army (from 2 box sets, plus the marine box set).

Then there's battlefleet gothic stuff that I've never gotten round to doing (and finding an opponent to play against).

I think it mostly comes down to being a packrat and not having thrown out anything from when I started the game when I was 12...

about 10 or 20 models, but most of them are lotr so they aren't units. lol

My personal problem is that painting is relaxation for me... however, when I'm busy I don't get that time, so I end up buying instead, which is much poorer relaxation, but better than nothing.

i have a 2200 point ork list and all are painted. i love the painting and converting part of the hobby.
i have 4 kommandos left to paint. (all four were previously painted i just wasnt happy with them. so i stripped them using the magic of SIMPLE GREEN)

Proud to say my unpainted list is down to just the dwarfs and 6 Tau. No more marines necessary. Huzzah. I'll prolly revisit them and put more shading and highlighting into them sometime in the future, but when I put my army down onto the table I'm proud to say, for the first time, I have a fully painted army. Huzzah!

Haha, that's me! I bought a Tau Firewarrior set and I've not even finished my XV25 Stealth team, or my Shrine of Aquila, or my SM Drop Pod, and now I've bought Astorath the Grim for a fine cast competition at a local, and incidentally rival, games workshop stockist haha

Got about 25 SW, and exactly 174 Cadians, including heavy weapons, sentinels, and commisars. Cant wait for those...

I need to paint a squad of tactical marines, a rhino, a predater, about 50 orks, about 80 guardsmen and 18 hvy weapon teams. On the plus side I have 30 tactical marines, 2 land raiders, 2 rhinos, 2 dreadnaughts, pedro kantor, a chaplain, 5 scouts, 5 assault marines, 5 sternguard, 20 ork boyz, 8 nobz, a warboss, 10 gretchin, 50 guardsmen and 6 hvy weapon teams all completely painted.

I have a shelving unit full of mostly unpainted miniatures, and a couple of tank boxes, 5 GW cases - including 2 double cases - full of mostly unpainted miniatures.

I voted for 20 units+ unpainted, because I wasn't sure if I had 50 or more units unpainted. But I probably do, thinking about it more, especially including vehicles as their own units. And by unit, I mean like a squad, not a model. I'm so used to thinking about units as groups of models.

I have so many unpainted things because I'm more of a wargamer than a hobbyist. I enjoy building miniatures, sure, and I enjoy painting them on occasion - which is becoming rarer and rarer as time goes on - but I don't enjoy painting enough to actually sit down over a few months, ignore the Internet - which is my main timesink these days - and get my armies painted.

I think if I were faster at painting, I'd enjoy it more. But it takes me about 45 minutes to paint a single Saurus Warrior, which are very very simple models to paint. That, plus I don't enjoy routines, so I don't have a painting habit going.

Way back, all those years ago when I was lucky if I could pick up a single infantry box every three or four months, all my stuff was painted. Mainly because I had a few months in between purchases. For the past 2-3 years I've been starting new armies and expanding my armies like crazy. I also inherited my brother's Tyranids, Chaos, and Imperial Guard armies when he quit playing...

So yeah, I've been getting loads of minis, faster than I'm painting them, because I enjoy gaming more than I enjoy painting, and I have many armies which I switch between frequently.

20+ units. Most of my IG and Tau are painted, and my old DE are painted (not the new stuff). My Templars/Stormswords are 1/4 painted 1/4 just primed and 1/2 unprimed. The Orks have a total of 1 model that is painted.
So 20+ units to go.

I have 2 squads of mandrakes that have yet to be primed, everything else has more than 1 colour on it though I'm still experimenting with the colour lay out on a lot of them so wouldn't dare say they're anywhere near a grade that I'd be happy with to show anyone.

I chose 20 or more, but thinking about it i have probably over 50 unpainted. nearly all are primed black, some with basic colours on them. my fully painted mini's are all uploaded on here, so i literally have 2 armies unpainted, my space wolves and my orks. BUT y ps3 died recently so i guess i'll be painting more now.

Just 4 more marines 1 dreadnought and the entire Ork army from my AoBR set to paint

For Malifaux I can actually field 2 completely painted crews, and its very satisfying to play with fully painted models!

5 possessed, but I never run them (no one ever does, apparently) so I'm not too much worried about getting them painted. Going to be getting another battleforce pretty soon to pad out some troops choices, and then get some wings off ebay and run the ten of them as raptors.

2 mobs of boyz (one of which is over 75% painted), 3 mobs of Lootaz, 3 battlewagons that I have yet to model, and some biker boyz that I only just finished.

All things considered, not bad, seeing as I play Orks. I've actually got two fully painted 30-man blobs of boyz, and one that's well on the way.

Well I just got into the hobby so I basically have half an army to paint.

I have 0 unpainted but several in the process of painting. I have 6 Devilfish needing their 3rd colors, 8 Pathfinders needing a wash then details, and pretty muuch my entire Dark Eldar force minus my archon is in the process of getting done.

Everytime I buy a new model or models, I never play before paiting them completely. Have about 7 models currently being worked on.

My desk is covered in un/semi-painted miniatures. My desk drawers have some in them, too. And I've got multiple boxes of them underneith the desk. At least 20 or 30 units. Perhaps more. I dare not count

I have 2000 pts of Dwarfs to paint, 1500 pts of DE to paint, maybe 500 pts of Tau to paint and an entire company of Fallschirmjagers for Fow...

I estimated I have over 200 models to paint. I average 25 guys a month.

Bought an entire army of SoB piecemeal through Ebay before the new year. Been painting them steadily now. Probably 80-90 models left to go (50 done)

Working on some terrain right now, actually. Got a tech canal set from Armorcast and I'm as giddy as a schoolgirl to get it all done and play a game with it. Other than that I have nine primed Slugga Boyz, seven assembled but unprimed Lootas, a box of Killa Kanz, a boxed Finecast Big Mek (he looks fine, btw,) and my first Necron unit still in his box: a Heavy Destroyer.

I try to only have a box or two at most and then paint things up in my slow, by hopefully table appropriate fashion before moving on. Stupid work, grad school, wife and kids drawing down my wargaming time...

Well, I do actually love my wife and kids. They aren't so bad.

Work does really suck though...

My pile is diffrent since last time. I now have a much bigger pile with 12 models in it. A devilfish, 2 battlesuits, 2 heavy warjacks, 1 light, a warcaster and a 5 man unit of heavy inf. That's not including drones and wargear for everything

Thankfully i dont have that many to paint

I still have a company of Marines to finish, IG Tank company and infantry as well, Orkstuff to finish and Tau as well

So, IG/SM/Chaos/Tau/Necron/Orks to have units finished, plus some other stuff.

Currently sitting at around 190 models.

Of course, 100 of these are unassembled, too.
