Hey guys,
It's been almost a month since I last updated in here. Whilst my hobby life hasn't been as bountiful as I would've wanted it, I've done quite a bit, and so I'm posting here as a "Proof of Concept", in a way.
With the explosion of interest in INQ28, I've actually found myself hitting a hobby rut. I'm just not sure what models to make, and so I've been left wanting to model, but without much in the way of a 'muse'.
So, this is a summary of what I've got thus far; I'll be presenting links, rather than images, but feel free to click away to delve further.
The bulk of my work thus far has been on the retinues of Inquisitors Hoth and Adorno. Hoth is an Inquisitor of the Ordo Xenos with minor radical tendencies, whilst Adorno is a Xanthite among the Ordo Malleus, treading the path of the radical as he and his bound daemonhost search for the Archive of Artemisia.

Inquisitor Hoth is a long-serving Inquisitor of the Ordo Xenos. Over the years, he has begun to acquire somewhat of a moderate radical bent, believing as he does that certain alien species can be useful, even aiding mankind's struggle for survival in the dark millennium. His retinue is comprised, for the most part, of capable men and women he has gathered through his decades of service - people he has come to consider his friends - for they share the burden of duty and service to the God-Emperor.
I'm not 100% sure what to add to Hoth's retinue - it's already quite bulky, and many of the classic roles are already taken. The female tech-priest I consider to be an ally of Hoth's, and I'm planning on building a Praetorian battle servitor for her as a bodyguard (and I want to get the Forgeworld Titan Tech-priest's Servo-Skull to go along with her, as well.)
Obviously Sylus works as Hoth's savant; you have Titus and Saul as almost two sides to a coin - the Arbitrator and the Rogue. Both of them are capable characters in combat, with Titus being more ranged and Saul able to close with his artificer-crafted laspistol and shock-sword. "Mem" is there to lend a bit of heavy support should circumstances warrant it. And obviously Hurk demonstrates Hoth's dalliances with the Xenos.
I've considered giving Hoth a priest of some kind to act as a moral compass, but I'm not sure at the moment. It's perhaps worth considering an Interrogator for Hoth, but I'm not sure how I could play off the extant themes.

Adorno is somewhat different. For Hoth, his retinue is comprised of friends. For Adorno, that's not quite the same. He despises the daemon, but his fate is intimately bound with the Whisperprince now, and he must work to wheedle the truths from its whispered lies. Ophelia is his devoted apprentice (and the two are, possibly, rather... close) but Adorno's retinue are, for the most part, tools to be used. Mourn, Banner and the Chrono-Gladiator are all effectively expendable, and there is a clear master-servant relationship there.

I've been reading a lot of INQ28 retinues recently which focus around broadly moderate or radical Inquisitors. I figured that a real Monodominant Inquisitor could be an interesting change. A brash and overt Inquisitor, a crusading hero-type. He would be surrounded by the religious and the trappings of force - he's the sort that will barge into battle without much in the way of subtlety.
I've been stymied on an actual model for this Inquisitor, though something inspired by
Migsula's Inquisitor may be an idea. I've been toying with the possibility of creating a model similar to Covenant using the sorceror. Unsure on that at the moment.
His retinue is likely to consist of:
[*]Pyremaster Korbin
[*]Sergeant Drexler
[*]Deacon Edric Gallowglass
[*]Hierophant
Names I've considered at the moment:
[*] Felroth Greer [*] Philber Trask [*] Atticus Black [*] Maccabeus Wroth [*] Hastor Whitlock
Concepts I've fiddled with recently:
[*] A hive ganger called "Bones". I have nothing more for this idea. Could he have a skeleton tattooed on him? Could he be skinny? I'm not sure. [*] I'd really like to do something with a Battle Sister, but obviously the models impact on that. Could make good "heavy support" for the Monodominant, though. [*] A Naval Officer [*] A Slaver/Mutie Hunter, with padded armour and a set of grabbing jaws, useful for capturing people. [*] A Progenium Drill-Abbot [*] An assassin that uses guns [*] I'm intrigued by the idea of a low-tech character (Conan?) that is covered in tattoos that count as hexagrammatic/pentagrammatic wards. [*] I keep thinking of a character who keeps an "aerie", a flock of servo-skulls that operate for him.
I definitely have a couple of models that I've sent to Steve - There's the dual-autopistol scummer; the husband-and-wife mercenary team, and a missionary running. The question is whether I can incorporate these satisfactorily. Some of these are useful for the Nova Castille campaign, to be used alongside any retinue that suffers too many casualties! Alongside these, I have my bionic Gladiator
WIP, and my Guardsman (seen on the left
here.) As ever, I'm keen to explore my assassin concepts also.

Sometimes modelling mojo (such as it is) works in funny ways. This model was never supposed to turn out this way, but it looks as though I'm in the progress of creating another radical Inquisitor. This model was orginally supposed to be for one of Adorno's henchmen, a "daemonsword bearer". Now he's becoming an Inquisitor on his own! These first two pictures show me making a start on the model, cutting away the shield, resculpting the hem of the sleeve and pinning a plastic
IG hand in place.
The plan is to have the model holding a daemonsword and pushing the enemy away by brandishing the skull of a dead saint. The daemonsword the model currently has is a little chunky and cartoonish, so I want to replace it with something else, certainly something a little more sinister. I like the dichotomy of pure and impure - or the idea than an impure man can believe himself to be pure...
It's not from a
GW kit; it's from the Russian Not-Josef model that I managed to snag off eBay a while back.
As you can see, I've attached it to his hand now:
I've also started to resculpt his robe to repair the damage left by removing the shield.
I also (kind of accidentally) started to do this model:
Perhaps even at this stage you can see the inspiration I was channelling. I've had a complete nightmare with it, capped off by ripping loads of
GS off the model and snipping it in half with clippers. Which leaves me somewhere here:
The picture is intentionally small because the camera is making it look a lot worse than it really does in real life. Maybe you can see where I'm heading with it... I'm just stymied by the lack of decent Cadian arms...
