As for model molestation, last thursday at a FLGS, some my buddy came in with his girlfriend who is a model and I touched her boob.

Just kidding, my buddy came in with is models and some douche triped him and he crushed them all under his girth.

Had it happen a few times. I especially remember one episode: I was around 12-13, I guess, and had just finished a Goblin Shaman and was showing it to the guys at my local club. People pass it around very carefully, until the last guy says 'Whoops' and it falls 2 feet onto the pingpong table, where it tumbles sideways followed by another 'Whoops, and another 2 foot drop onto the concrete floor. IIRC I was close to tears...

A positive story:
A couple of weeks ago, I noticed that my 1,5 year old son was way too quiet. I found him sitting on the floor in my hobby room (his mom had forgotten to close the door) staring at a bunch of Marauder dwarfs that weren't varnished. I just stood watching him, waiting to see what happened next. He stood up and very, very carefully picked another one from my painting desk with his index and thumb, and placed it next to the others on the floor and sat down again and just looked at them...

I dont play very often but do have 3 young children. Generally thier pretty good about touching the various models I have in the playroom (plus they don't tend to get allowed down there on thier own very much) however there has been the old minor incident - most recently the middle child (3) filled some of my pallet with glue and proceeded to paint some of the WIP using a selection of my best brushed.

My first reaction now if something like that happens is to head straight for the missus and demand that she "does something with her children NOW!" - disciplining youngsters is best not done when boiling white mad!!

Well, after lurking in this thread for a couple weeks, I've finally remembered one!

A couple of winters ago my friend came over for a game and on his way into the house he slipped on some ice, sending the box of orcs and goblins he was carrying flying into the snow. We managed to recover most of them, but a few weren't found until the snow melted a few months later...

And these stories are why, whenever I enter a store with my kids I remind them "Look with your eyes, not your hands" No problems so far!

We have a friend in our gaming group that is rather large. One of the guys was playing and had the FW Bloodthurster on the edge of the board. The wings are so large that they hung off the board. Our large friend was leaning down over the board and his gut was rubbing up against the wings. All I heard was, "Dave, the thurster. Dave, the thurster!" He caught himself befor it fell off the board but it was close.

The other one was at a friends house and his sisters 3 year old came running in and his grubby power fist like hand shot into my box where I had my devilfish. In a vice like grip snatched the fish up and was about to throw it. I yelled, "NO! Put it down!" in my loudest traffic control cop voice. The kid put it down staring at me like I had a gun pointed at him. My wife wonders why I don't like kids. Small, smelly and expensive.

When I was an investigator at Fort Bragg, I remember showing up to a house on a domestic. A soldier and his wife were having an agruement. I wasn't called into do the investigation but to give the first responders an idea on how much the eldar stuff she broke. I sware when I walked in the front door there was what was left of a warwalker stuck three inches into the dry wall. 4K of eldar was smashed, and what will always remember was the wife yelling at her husband, "Why don't you stick these toys up your ! At least something getting lucky in here! child! I can't believe it, toys before !"

Ive known people who pass up sex for WoW raids. But passing it up to paint a model is just plain stupid you can go back to painting afterwards.

I wish there was a way to combine the 2. Boobs and gaming FTW. Maby like a gaming night at the local gentleman's club or a stripper at a gaming club night.

Now to get this thread back on topic,

About 4 years ago, this guy at a FGS ahd this very very well painted falcon grav tank, like golden deamon worthy, He was planning on entering it, why he would brign it to a FGS I dont know. Anyway some punk came in with an airsoft gun and sprayed the store, breaking display cases models peoples models on the table terrain and at least one persons glasses. After the guy left and police were called we took survey of the damage. the terrain on the gaming tables was totaled, most of the models on it were smashed to bits, and this wonderful grav tank was now in component parts and full of dents and holes whre the bbs hit.

The stores security cams caught the kids face and he was caught a few days later, he caused about 4000$ in damage to models, display cases, and personal damages.

I am a teen, but I really get what your saying. Once a kid was looking at my 400+ points of painted menoth, and I turn around for a minute, when I turn back around all, I mean ALL the paint was gone!!! His mom did absolutly nothing! I was SOOO angry, I was MANGRY!

Then again I was also amazed that the kid stripped all the paint!

AWESOME.

I field the proverbial Dark Eldar Parking Lot O' Doom and used (operative word here) to keep them on a bookshelf. Came home from work one day to be met at the door by my wife who was holding a 6 pack of beer in one hand. Unfortunately in her other hand was a box filled with what used to be my skimmer fleet. Seems the cats decided to play on the bookshelf that day and knocked every one of them to the floor. It was not a pretty sight.

yes, you can't leave models out when you have cats. Although I will occasional put some unpainted old plastic marines out on the table for my younger cat to play with. he's figured out how to throw them at my older cat. He's also a very good shot.

I have had the following happen

Kid picks up a Death wing termie in the middle of a game I was playing , Mother calls for him to come on kid turns and knocks off 15-17 termies off table... and runs off with out a word...

only 2 were damaged... fixed with some glue... but the game was over then.

Apoc game on floor of a large garage... guy steps down on top of yet another Death wing Termie... fixed with glue....

Apoc game guy not paying any attention backs up in to my Marauder Destroyer and knocks it off its pole in to a FW chaos reaver, 2 Gargants and 2 stompas...
The Marauder breaks a part to the last piece. It was quickly fixed by my friend with hot glue , and only a a tip of a Autocannon was damaged. All the other super heavies were A-ok...

Me Being Dumb took off one of the main weapons on my Reaver, totally not thinking about how heavy the other one was on the other side...
Needless to say it catapulted the entire upper off the waist and legs. It only took 3-4 hours of Pinning and paint touch ups to fix , lesson learned.

Havn't had any real problems at my local GW.

1.) Did see a kid start a 'dead pile' on the under table storage platform (knee high board) wit the stores Genestealers during an instructional Mega-Battle.

Then he proceeded to put his Napoleon Dynamite moon booted foot atop the pile to try to reach across the table...

I heard three distinct crunches, and the quiet grumblings of a red-shirt as he secured them for repair.

2.) My dad ran a Dark Ages minis game at a local con. Brought out a huge collection because he hadn't done any gaming in a long time, and these were home-written rules he was really proud of.

Unfortunately he won't run it ever again since a middle aged player managed to drop, crush, or otherwise mishandle nearly every unit he was using in game.

Horse riders broken off, wire spears torn off, paint chips, floor drops... The works. I know he said something to they guy in each turn - the other players were apologetic (and they didnt even know the offender!).

I'm amazed at the level of patience he displayed.

3.) I was the kid who convinced his babysitter that 'Dad lets me paint miniatures all the time!' at age 5. Fortunately I kept to plain lead and didn't go over existing paintjobs...

Maybe its obsessive compulsive disorder , ( like i get the urge to poke display foods in asia , 80% of them are display models , 20% ended up been real )

Well, as we have cat stories, i have a few things, my painting alcove is just a small closet in my house that my wife lets me keep my minis and paint, I'm still working on her to try and get her into the game she likes 'Nids at least to paint so i may get her a starter kit. But anyway we have this cat that fell down the flight of stairs when it was a kitten so subsequently it can't find the litter box all the time, so i wake up about once a month to mini's needing to be cleaned, my bits are now sealed, my minis will never be out unless I am working on them directly and they are under an upturned plastic bin to dry. The same cat has broken the magnet off of a dread (don't ask how) the multi-melta off of a LRC and and snapped a feww bases off, all where/are fixable, but still it is fracking anoying to go and pick up your beloved Black Templars Chaplain and get cat piss all over your fingers.

Aye cats can suck, one afternoon I found out that my cat had taken a leak in my lego bin the last time I had it out. About 3 months later I had an uncontrollable urge to build something out of it and got the scent of stale cat pee.

back on topic now,

I was working the night shift at work and I'm lucky enough to have a job where they let me paint all night. One night I had left to do a walkabout at my building (im a security guard) and when I got back I found an employee admiring my models which I had finsihed painting about 15 minutes before, th had smeared the not quite dry paint and alot of it transfered to his hands, I wasnt pissed or anyhting, but i had a good laugh when I exclaimed "Caught you black handed" (i play iron hands black body silver trim). He looked at his fingers and then the model and turned quite red.

The worst things I have ever seen with the "model molesters"...
The last year I went to a wargames exhibition here in Madrid with my Imperial Guard army. The exhibition was very near of a school and was full of children. The result was horrible! Anyone picked up one of my leman russ and put it in his backpack. I didn't see it at the moment and I never see the leman russ again...
Two imperial guards and a mortar dissappeared too and some models were broken...also a child turns his orange fanta over my soldiers! (by accident).

My wargaming association will organize a new exhibition in the next months...we will have security guards to watch around the gaming tables.

Woah, some of these stories make me want to find some of these kids (and their parents) and teach them a lesson.

I have only ever had two bad things happen to me, once when two jerk-sticks on the other side of the gaming area were throwing a tennis ball at each other they lost control and accidentally hurled the ball across the room, it bounced along my table collecting 4 crisis suits and sent them flying, my commander snapped clean off at his heels, all that was left of him on the table were his two feet, oh yea and that was the first time I went to the club.

Another tale that happened a lot more recently; a long time member of my club walked over to my monolith, picked it up by its stem which needless to say promptly snapped and sent the entire model clattering to the table busting up the paint and snapping off lots of fiddly bits (guns etc...) when this useless oaf realized what he had done he promptly turned away and tried to pretend like he hadn't done anything at all (despite both me and my opponent seeing him do it), so I walked around to face him and just said very slowly, What. The. F@#!. to which he replied 'huh' and walked away with out so much as apologizing. I was disgusted and have never spoken to him since.

In Warhammer we need a three strike policy, you break three models belonging to others and you forfeit the right to two hands.

That story is awful. what a TFG.

Whoop Whoop 100th post!

Talking of cats, I was far from amused with mine (my housemates to be fair, but given the fact he is away so much it is mine by default) this weekend.

I have an old Quality Street tin, left over from a couple of Christmas' ago, which I use to keep sand in when I am covering my miniatures bases. I went to base up some IG and found a massive poo in it.

The cat got kicked out for the night with no dinner. Furry Git.

I'm afraid that on one occasion I was the molester. Years ago at Games Day Baltimore, back when it was a two day event and we used to book a conference room at the hotel across the street for all-night gaming. Anyways, guy had his converted Hive Tyrant using Spawn (Todd McFarlane Spawn, not GW) bits that he was entering into Golden Daemon, and I managed to drop it. He spent the rest of the morning putting it back together.

Sadly I was the molester last night. A friend drove myself and another friend back to the dorms. I was in the back seat, my friend in the front. Now he keeps his minis in a shoebox with some foam. He got out and held the door open for me because it was going to close. I got out, tripped on the seatbelt while doing so, and smashed my hand into his box of mini, which flew, somehow ended up in my hand, then launched from my hand, crashing to the pavement. Needless to say I was devastated and thoroughly apologized while picking them up, offering bitz and money for anything he need as we both play eldar. In the end he said he would probably tally up what he had and sell it to me half price seeing as he was thinking f selling to me anyway. Felt really bad for it though.

After reading this thread from the first post to last, (and a brief break to try and get my heartbeat under hummingbird speed, it must be a modeler thing ,) i have decided to share one of my stories.

This happened back when i lived in England, around three to four years ago, my rage has still not faded.

A friend and i had headed down to the local Games-Workshop, he with his Imperial Fists, myself with my Iron Warriors, our intent was to get a game on one of the amazing urban tables and continue our tale of Legion-based rivalry, we greeted the staff and other regulars with hellos and nods, and waited on the sidelines for our desired table to become available, (Eldar and Tyranids were just finishing up)

Shortly after the Eldar player looks up at the Tyranid player and they've packed up we move in and begin to set up our own labors of love some people call mere models, he was proud of his Captain, myself with my possessed.

Now, i'm a Fluff nut, and all my lists and models are made with background in mind, and my demonic fueled marines were painstakingly made from random vehicle accessory kits, Iron Hand and -Warrior marines, Necrons(!)and green-stuff. (Iron Warriors possessed are described as being mainly cybernetic) impressive to look at, but as fragile as a tissue crash helmet.

Now, the battle was well underway when a kid from a nearby table comes wandering over and asks to examine our proud favorites just as we were gearing them up for an assault.

In the split second it had taken for the question to enter my ears and be procced by my brain, he had already picked up my possessed champion by the shoulders, snorted dismissively, and had thrown it back onto the table with a cry of "These are lame!"

The fallen champion exploded, but not before taking my friend's captain to repair junction by ripping off his storm-bolter arm.

Bloodshed was only avoided by the quick actions of the store manager.

...That story made me sad. And mad. -_-'

Gosh, every angry DEATH TO YOU CHILD! DARE YOU BREAK MY MODEL AGAIN I RIP JOR HEART OUT WITH MAH BEAR HANDS! RAAAAAWR! has been avoided by store managers... at my local gw the redshirts/store manger do NOTHING about little kids breaking stuff...

There is one little child who is extremely annoying and tends to touch things that are not his (he has no models as I recall, but is there every week, usually from open to close.) I remmember distinctivly during an apocalypse game he came up and broke a piece off a friends brand new Forge World Necron Pylon!!!! and it wasnt a part that needed to be glued on originally... he held back his anger and took it up with redshirts/manager and they do basically nothing as far as Im concerned!

And the little child is extremely annoying... while playing games he constantly asks the most pointless questions... is that a dragon? "no, its a giant turtle, and if you dare touch it I will rip your jaw out and pluck each of your eyes ouch while I slowly twist your knees backwards" Ok so I would never actually do that but thats pretty much what he asks and what I feel like saying... multiple times every week

EDIT: oh and after he broke the pylon, he put it on the table right under where it was on the model and walked away... the owner of the pylon watching him the ENTIRE time... so hes trying to act like he did nothing was rather pointless... Although I must say the red shirts do find the child rather annoying, and usually dont allow him to be on the "BUY OUR STUFF" side of the store unless hes buying stuff as he tends to interupt red shirts in mid convesasion with other people.... sigh

i've been mostly lucky with my models as i've probably broken more of them while playing than strangers have (including one IG sentinel who broke both his hips while simply standing, untouched, on the table). i guess i've been lucky to stop most of the grubby paws with a moderately raised voice warning (and a 6'4" 280lb frame).

Havent had a problem in a while. The manager at the local GW has gotten good at spoting the model molesters and kicking them out of the store before they can break anything.

I even managed to get through last weekends lucky 13th game without a single broken model.

Although I did have a kid wanting to destroy my grey knight grand master after it killed his heriophaunt on the first turn before it even got to attack. I guess you can say my models molested the bio titan.

I NEVER touch anyone else's models. Even if I am playing them I will often ask during a game if its ok to move/touch them.

I had someone hide one of my models from me because he didn’t want to face it in combat. It was my harlequin army and the guy hid my solitaire on me. I noticed because my eyes managed to scan the shelf it was placed. I picked up the model and told him it wasn’t cool and proceeded to game.

I was Playing 2 weeks ago in a Apoc game and I faced the same problem. A 14 year old kid grabbed my stompa off the table and dropped it. When he dropped it shattered and I was pissed. I didn't curse, but I was upset!

I hide one guys models all the time at the LGS. Ill normally pick up one of his plasma gunners from his stormtrooper unit and hide it on the bottom floor of a building or something. Middle of a game, im that sneaky. I also, while he was playing, managed to stick all his D6s inside chimeras (back doors not glued). He didnt notice until he needed to roll for something.

Wow... reading this, im glad theres no one really bad at model handling at our club. A couple of the guys at our school club need to learn to ask(*cough* edan *cough*) , but no ones molested any models - yet. One of the guys does look like he's just dumped his marines in blood red though (termies and command squad excepted, they were painted by ben and joe, so thier cool.) But thank god for (most) store owners and redshirts. But i use so much glue that if one of my models was dropped, it would (probably) stay in one piece.XD

I drop my own minis all the time, so I never even ask to pick up anyone elses. I would be to embarassing when I drop them. That said though I often have to move the display modles at my local GW, to clear space on a gaming table. - My special "trick", (which I have done twice now ) is to carefully load them on to a tray, carefully move the tray under the gaming table, then when they are about 6" from the floor I somehow manage to spill the 30 gobbos or dwarfs or whatever onto the floor. Then I have to spend the next couple of minutes crawling round under the table, putting them back, trying not to kneel on any, and hoping no one noticed!

It probably is school policy, but possibly for a different reason. The glues in the plasters may cause an allergic reaction. ( I think that's what I was told)

I just saw this one last night..
During a Apocalypse game at our local Con, The game was set up on four large folding tables at one end there was a large support coulmn for the building with a two foot gap between the column and the table end , the players had placed all of their gaming cases in the floor and using that end of the board to house the empty trays that would soon fill with the dead.
During the game a young teenage on looker and his friend was admiring the table, He went to the end with all the cases, One of our best painters in the group had a foam tray on the table with his dead and models he didn't want to put out due to showcase level of detail, without asking the guy started pulling the figures out and really man handling them. The painter guy immediately noticed what the kid was doing, Went down and said "please don't touch our stuff without asking, or I will slap your hands" Jokingly with a little of force behind it.. The kid stopped touching the stuff and watched the game again... A minute later instead of walking around the cases and around the support beam, he waded threw the cases like Godzilla in a city knocking one of the cases over that had Necron destroyers on top of it... Six of them hit the floor and five broke.. The owner started to walk over and the kid saw what he did and just walked off..
We are now thinking of velvet ropes around the table and our stuff with a sign " if you are not a player please keep six feet from the table. "

During tournaments at my LGS you are not allowed to linger and watch unless you are a regular player. I think velvet ropes would be a good idea.

And a red carpet.

Cordoning off the tables is a good idea, provided there's a lot of space in the FLGS. In my local GW, it could get incredibly cramped on a battle day. The tables in the front of the shop are so close to the product shelves that cutting off the area wouldn't work for my situation.

Mind, at least the gaming boards at the back of the shop have a little more space.

WOW I have to say (knock on wood) iv broken more of my own than had others do it but the stories of the children all I can say is wow I have two boys 8 and 9 and I and my wife both play and collect my boys have been in and out of GW stores all of there lives and know not to touch or handle any ones figs or ill break there fingers off (or so iv threatened would not really do it to messy) parents should keep an eye on there kids and take responsibility for there actions. More on topic like I said I do more damage than any one ells I was looking over dkok rider last night thinking about how to paint it and thinking how the basing was the best I had done so far when it slipped from my hand and fell to the concrete floor below and I scooped up the pieces and tried not to cry.

Same here. On a different note, I once molested my own Kroot Shaper. I had got him as a door prize, for reasons I don't know why, and man is it hard to get his gun glued on. Heaps of super-glue and precious time were wasted. And then we tried to have an inschool game, whch didn't happen for obvious reasons, and one of my friends plays Tau, so I was going to lend it to him, but as I was showing it to him, I dropped it and the gun comes right off. I was pissed a said a word not suitable for the ears of little siblings.

As for in-store molesters,, always carry masking tape and a piece of paper saying 'I need 1 brain' with you when going to your FLGS. What to do with them to a model breaker is obvious.

Suffering from mild OCD also dosent help much, I've actually washed models after people touching them.

Last night, after our 2000 point Eldar/Black Templar game, my buddy dropped his wraithlord onto his tile floor, breaking it cleanly into all of the component pieces.

Nothing permanently damaged, but he'll have to reglue.

And that was after successfully keeping his 2 year old away from the table the entire game.

He kept calling my rhinos Choo-Choo and reaching for it to put it on his train set.

Although I'm tempted, whenever I play a game in a public space next, to make a sign that says: "You break my models, you owe me new ones... plus a $10 stupidity fee."

Back when I was younger and I still lived with my parents we had a dog, a cute and fluffy welsh corgi. One day, me and a friend were playing WHFB on the floor, since we didn't have a large enough table. As we were crouching there, I suddenly heard a scratching sound approaching. It was the dog, running towards us all excited about something. She came charging at full speed towards the collection of minis, terrrain and dice and... stopped. She sniffed at the stuff closest to her, and then carefully walked around the battle area to us.

And as far as I remember, during all the other battle we fought on the floor, the dog never even knocked anything over.

well some weeks ago I was playing at the local store, a couple of teenagers (16 and 15 respectivly) get closed by and start peeking inside my box where I had some units that got killed on the battlefield.

Luckily I looked them just in time when, aside from peeking, they were trying to pick up a couple of my Tactical Marines. The poor Imperial Fists were looking at me desperatly while they understood that their pain glove could do nothing to monsters as the size of their master.

"Hey, you should ask before picking up without authorization you know!"

the couple blushed, placed the Marines back in the box and never tried again to get close my miniatures without permission. Perhaps it was due to the fact that a lot of people heard the rage eheheh.

I don't paint well , but dammit, before getting one of my miniatures please ask. I do that and I've recieved a no just for delicate pieces or freshly glued after they sustained damage.

Thankfully my miniatures have only ever been the subject of my own stupidity/clumsiness. Once I played a nice big points game on a specially made table at out local GW. It was a big stepped mountainside they were using for a series of in-store "assualt the mountain fortress" type games. My carnifex (the oldschool metal screamer-killer type) managed to fall from the top of the fortress, down onto a warrior brood and then rolled down the slope, picking up a unit of gaunts and a load of stealers on the way. Massive nid-pile, and amazingly only one breakage (warrior lost an arm).

Seeing as how it was a friendly (and already silly) game, We called it a landslide and removed them from play

At my friends, he recently got the AoBR set, os i was showig him and a couple of friends how to play properly (they played house rules, hadnt seen a rule book before)
Anyways, we were setting up, his ultramarines v my necrons. We were setting up on the floor (no tables are big enough for our man games!), his friends watching, ready for the lesson
Suddenly, his stupid-ass of a brother jumps off the sofa to check his DoW game on the computer. He jumps - straight on top of a pile of warriors and 4 dstroyers, narrowly missing my already deployed squad of 20 warriors. Luckly only 2 warriors broke (thier backs) and a desroyer lost a gun arm. My friends helped me to glue the men back together and the lesson went on.
Lucky for his brother i didnt have a on me.

I did , because some miniatures dissapeared in that store. It's not the fault of the store keeper, but of the youngers. I've never had problems, but others did, so it's better to be a bit... authoritarian rather than get back home and find out that some of your miniatures dissapeared without notice.

To my immense shame and guilt, I have a model molester story of my own. A kid at my GW, who I've only ever met once, was letting me and some of my friends have a look at his Ghazghull model while we were playing a game in store. After we all took a look at the model, he placed it on the table and walked off to get lunch. The game shortly came to a close and my friends packed up their minis and walked off to the painting table. I decided to take another look at Ghazghull and stupidly picked him up by the body, the super-glue breaking, the base clattering to the floor. I irrationally paniced, grabbed the base, put it back on the table and precariously balanced Ghazghull on top, packed up my stuff and ran off.

Sorry guys, not cool, I know (actually, it could have been much, much worse if I'd picked him up by the base).

I've left my minis and paints at my local GW on numerous occaisions, be it the gaming table, the hobby table or packed away in a corner, I've never had anything broken or go missing while I've gone to lunch. All the regulars at the store is very trusting of each other.

I've also played games at school a bunch of times, I had a whole period on Wednesday afternoon where we just played 40k and LotR whilst everyone else was playing inter-school sport, sure I got a whole bunch of grief from my classmates about it, but I'd never had anything go missing or get broken. The teacher even joined in and decided to play a test game of 40k. He had owned The Battle for Macragge for years without even opening it (sorry, a bit off topic there).

I wish I hadn't read this thread it's making me paranoid...

Saying that last night I took my new daemons army out for a test drive at the local club. Playing against a friend and regular opponent when a guy comes ups and asks us if when we are finished one of us will play him and sits down to wait for us to finish. Well I'm rolling for reserves and my Daemon Prince finally decides to grace the board with his presence . The guy waiting to play picks up my daemon prince by pinching the two wings together and passes it to me. This entire thread flashes through my mind I lose it slightly 'not by the f"£$%&g wings it's rather delicate' but I'm lucky and it survives the mauling. After the game we are setting up for another game (including 'handsy') and he decides without being asked to pass me my painstakingly painted plaguebearers by the handfull as if they are green army men and not painted metal models with very chippable paint. Again this thread fills my mind with horror 'F%^k I'll get them, just step away' looks of hurt from a guy who just plain don't understand the damage done by reading this thread, or his potential to damage my models and my potential to verbally rip him a new one.

I've never had anything bad happen to my minitures, as i don't play games much, but i have never understood how people forget the two facts of warhammer/40k miniture:
1. they are expensive
2. alot of work goes into them, no matter the owners skill

so if its not yours don't touch

as all good mothers (the majority of mothers of bratty, idiot, fat, rude kids do not fall under this umbrella) say "look with your eyes, not your hands"

Strange, on my FLGS all the kids have models painted even better than mine (almost, but still good), and they treat other peoples models good. Hell, im talking about 9 year olds!

Just got back from the tournament gamers night at my local GW. Holidayhalflife and I thought we would give it a try to get some practice for the doubles tournament in January. Took a wander round to see what was going on and noticed a game setting up with a nice dark eldar army As we watched A guy, not one of the players, picked up one of the dark eldar vehicles to admire the paint job only to drop it on a unit of infantry. The crew scattered into the unit and the dropper received some choice insults from the player. Now to give the guilty party his due he did apologise and set to reattaching he figures but still. Confirmed my prejudices about in-store gaming. Think I will stick to playing with my own little group. Couldn't bear to see my precious mandollies molested like that.

You know what I don't see on here are any stories of the dreaded gut-sweep, aka - overhanging shirt tentacles. I know one guy in particular who has smashed multiple models, not by touching them, but by standing there, watching the game, and then brushing against them with his gut or overhanging sweater, knocking them onto the floor without even realizing. Totally accidental. Still horrible.

Have had next to no trouble with Young 'Uns. I find growling helps keep grabby hands at bay.

It seems older gamers have caused more damage.

Case 1 - While playing Battletech, a 20-something twit decides to pick up a converted Mech. Didn't ask, and I politely asked him to put it down. He claims "Nothing will happen." then preceeds to place it on the table and break off 3 parts. Being the understanding guy I am I tipped the corner of the 3 pound stainless steel clipboard I was holding onto his hand. As he rubbed the bruise I told him "Guess you were wrong."

Case 2 - Before GW released the new LR kit, I grew tired of waiting and scratchbuilt one, also from stainless steel. A 30+ year old sees it says "Wow, a Land Raider."Slides his hand underneath to pick it up and promptly drops 12 1/2 pounds of steel onto his foot. I picked it up, put it back on the table as he curses me out, to which I replied. "If you had asked I could have told you to use both hands carefully."

Case 3 - At a local tourney, after the event and prize winners are being declared, a 36 year old decides gravity is to much to bear and slides his ass up on the edge of a table...a folding-leg style table...with 5 peoples armies on it. Thankfully, my army wasn't one of them, but his weight actually broke the legs and 10'000 points of armies met hard floor. His defense "That shouldn't have happened." I pointed out to him that it was a table, not a chair or a bench, therefore it wasn't designed for sitting.

Funny enough, I have never had a problem with my niece, from her earliest years, she understood the difference between 'toys' and 'models' and it was only explained to her once...at age 3. Now she's older, she does question my sanity on occasion for the price on some of my models though.

As to the Chaos cat theory, my oldest has a habit of getting on the table and either having a nap in an open area or looking at both armies then flipping my opponents RoughRiders over. She has never done a thing to my minis.

In our FLGS everybody just leaves other peoples models alone their are other tines (curse you damn Edinburgh Festival) where you get lots of tourists come in but the little kids dont bother they just anoy the other kids their is a small (5-6) group of us who trust each other and will look out for each others models.
but the only horror story was me as the curprit: one of our friends is a bit slow so we decided to play "hide Ghazghkull" with him. this went on for about 3mins with Ghazghkull ending up inside a stormlords troop hold. at this point Daryll (slow one) asked for him back so we said we didn't have him. he said to take him out the tank so me, being clever, SHOOK THE TANK. I broke all the banner poles daryll still hasn't forgivin me, luckly gazghull wasn't painted much so it was't that big a problem

FM.

1. Procure contact poison.
2. Build up and immunity to said poison.
3. Coat models with poison.
4. Watch little jerks flop around on the ground in a pool of their own vomit.

I was playing at my local GW. My opponent: Spess Mehreenz. I was playing Orks. To make a long story short, I was flooring him. Now comes the fun part.

I was running Ghazghkull. Ghaz is a big metal model, therefore Ghaz is heavier than most models. Ghaz threw me off my chair and, at the same time, embedded his horns in my forehead after my opponent threw him at me. It probably doesn't need to be said that it was a painful game. Won me some stitches, it did. Ghaz, on the other hand, was completely intact, and has some blood on his horns now "ta show dat he's been doin' some killin'!"

So this technically isn't a model molester horror story, but a player molester horror story. Regardless, a horror story nonetheless.

The other day in my friendly local gaming store, a horror story of still packeged models, this guy walks in with his three kids the 2 or 3 year old runs over to the chaos space marines section and starts pulling them of the wall. the dad stands there and sais "stop doing that" the kid doesnt stop.

later when they left the manger had to clean up the floor, cursing all the way.

not realy a horror story, but still a lack of respect for things that aint theres.

The funniest part was the intense scrutiny she gave my stuff before she knocked over my rough riders.

You also forgot to mention my incident with your land speeder. After measuring distance with my tape measure i started to let it reel back in over the table and it bent over and snagged my opponents land speeder. The flight base with broke as well as the step railings came off. Luckily my friend was understanding and i was out of range of his clip board.

I have had my scratch built defiler knocked out of my hand accidentally which broke one leg at the joint.

The LS thing was a "true" accident,not based on inconsideration for other's property...and I did give you the headstart run you asked for. Besides, it was fixable.

I wonder if the dreaded Felinx recognized my models, after all she sat across from the table as I hand painted 21'000 points worth.

Speaking of children I have a couple of tales.
During the 'Ard Boyz tourney on of my fellow player's wife came in wit hthere two little boys (trouble brewing, right?) As soon as the door to our FLGS closed behind them the mom turned around and enunciated "Keep you hands at your side and don't touch a thing or I will wear out your ass."
That's parenting one can be proud of.

I have another friend that stops by at night with his small daughter (1 or 2 yrs old). She's really good about not touching things. Well I was running my Orks and had Ghaz on the edge of the table (If you don't know, Ghaz is very heavy and pointy and can cause significant injury if it fell on a young' un. She came up and was reaching for some of my Orks when she tugged on the felt of the playing field and I notice Ghaz teetering close to fall off the table to smah her on the head. I quickly turned but gently moved the figures out of her way and said "No honey, you got to be carefull" this startled her and she started crying. I got joked at for being the big scary monster that I'm not, but no damage done and no injuries.

As for horror stories: We had just finished a all day Tourney and as everybody was putting their stuff up the owner of our store was showing a guy a model he painted from his display case. Mind you this is a three tiered glass case like in a jewelry counter full of models old, new and alot of pewter. He gets out the model in question hands it to the guy he looks commebts on it and sets it back down. As the figure touches the glass top all three tiers shatter sending figures, part and shattered glass everywhere.

Stunned silence..

The owner just stands and says, "I'll get the glue."

His main concern was replacing the glass.
But it's all back together now.

@ Spinetwista: Don't claim to have done things you didn't do especially not things like that. Its not clever or cool. back on topic: last saturday, my friend and i took oe f my three only spacemarines, and decided to make a new chaos hero. this involved around three hours of cutting, sawing, glueing, green-stuffing and bonding. At that time my friend wanted to paint a cadian, so seeing how good he was at painting (i'll post images of the necron and aforementioned cadian soon), which also took a good few hours.

Anyways, earlier today, we were at our usual club, with some other friends. my guard were facing my friends guard, with my chaos hero (Vaxkhern, Khorn's chosen) on the table for fun. Earlier, my opponent's friend decided his rhino (METAL BAWKSES!!!!!) could powerslide. he then decided it was terrain, so he placedit RIGHT IN THE WAY OF MY MEN. lots of people would have wanted the cover, but:

1) both my squads were nutcase veterans with melta bombs and dem charges.

2) it was in the way of my charge!

so i ask him to move it. both him and my opponent refuse to move it. The head of the club tells them to move it, as i look realy pissed off at this point. they oblige, as they have seen him kick people out before. Vax was hanging with my cadian 101st "funkeyfunkey" regiment (my friend painted the cadian really colourfully, reds, golds oranges, etc) so my oponent gets REALLY peeved, and orders vax off. I remove him, even though it had been explained that he was hanging out and had no purpose in the game, whereas the rhino was played intentionally to obstruct my men.

Later on, my men are pretty screwed. there is 1 squad left, an immobilised russ at the back, and a wrecked demolisher on his top left flank. my friend who painted the cadian decided he could come back and play with us again. NOTE!: if you just wanted the model molester bit, here it is.

my opponent, who has a personal vendetta against him because apparently he's my new "favourite". my opponent then does a number of things:

1) He picks up my model WITHOUT MY PERMSSION.
2) He picks it up BY THE GUN
3) He slams the model so hard into the table that i'm certain i heard the cadian SCREAM with terror.

there are now only a few select people who are allowed to pick up my models. If i see someone pick one up without my permission, i WILL stamp on one of thier models for compensation. I know it's harsh, but i want my models to be safe, unscratched and in one piece. especially ones as good and valued to me as my friend's.

And the most annoying bit:
1)my opponents friend kept pickingup his damn leman russ saying" he doesnt care if i pick up his models" with a big cheesy grin. He might not care about his models, but hes a reckless (dont swear kiddies )

2) He acted like he had i right to do whatever he wanted to my models.

3) He won the game. He didnt deserve it. Tragic.

Without my permission. Abaddon then falls off, and the twerp steps on it (accidentally) then laughs apologetically. And he loses my small blast and flamer template. Rawr

I had a really weird incident happen to me not long ago. A little girl apparently knocked one of my new figures to the ground while I was in the restroom, breaking it in half. This girl proceeded to eat the upper half apparently thinking it was candy due to its bright coloration. I'm serious. Somehow she managed to chew up and swallow painted plastic while thinking it was candy. At least her parents were nice and apologetic. They gave me enough money to buy and paint the model three times over again.

There is this worker at our gamesworkshop and he always, ALWAYS, wither breaks the model or drops it, and hes a red shirt, we call him Ham Hands, he even broke the stores air conditioner. But on the contrary, he has some really nicely painted tyranids and has a flyrant (flying hive tyrant) and ive seen so many kids pick it up by the tips of the wings (balrog wings) and almost drop the poor things.

Not a model molester story, but a story none the less. Someone in our LGS was using the bathroom, and took a massive gak. This gak was the gak to end all other gaks. It broke a pipe in the basement, and the water, while it didnt really flood, took out the stores 2000 dollar security system.

A bunch of teenagers were rough housing in the game store .. (Why would you do such a thing? It isnt a club house) and kicked a hole in the wall a few months ago.. The owner kicked them out since they werent going to pay for any repairs

Honestly thats the main reason I prefer only dealing with adults.. you can actually get money from them if something happens

I dont care if people hand my all plastic miniatures after all thats what varnish is for and they bounce pretty well.. Broken models take 3 seconds to fix but spilling soda on them would suck Im sure.. however sodas arent even allowed on the game tables

I break my models all the time so Im used to it I suppose. I learned to HATE the old metal fantasy dragons because of being like 20 metal parts that always fell apart. When you're young you dont know what pinning is

After a BFG game, to get them out of the way, I put my necron cruisers on a chair. Ten minutes later, not thinking, I sat on the chair.

Fortunately, they were all metal and the damage was repairable. The sound of a half dozen flight stand snapping is something that haunts you, though.

Anyway, time for my story. Ayone who's read the worst sportsmanship thread in it's entirety should hopefully remember my ill-fated Howling Griffons Librarian-The one who got his plastic force weapon munched. Anyway, I fixed him, but I'm starting to believe the Emperor hates the poor spehss mehrien.

I headed on down to the FLGS with my Griffons, and agreed to play our resident girl gamers Cadians-Should be a good game, I thought. While she was talking to her BF, I started Unpacking my stuff-starting with my Land raider, then my Librarian. I put the Librarian on top of my tank, as he was going to start in it. Then, in a fit of madness, decided to put them on the Battlefield's central hill, so I wouldn't forget about him-bad move.

Then I got distracted talking to someone, and she put her case on the table-I'm sure some people can see where this is going. She unclipped it, threw the lid back with quite a bit of force and-a sickening crunch rang out. Yes, my poor Librarian had been crushed. Again.

I can't really accuse her off being a molester though. She was properly mortified about what had happened , and even offered to pay for the damages and repair it herself. I reasoned it was kinda my fault as well though, so I declined. We then had an absolute blast of a game (I lost though-Next time Cadians, next time ), and my reconstructed Librarian is now sitting proud in the stores display cabinet's with a sign underneath saying "Brother Booky Dweebish ( )-the Space Marine who just won't die".

Not really a horror story like some others posted, but I just thought I'd share it with you, Dakka.

This story is about myself and i feel horrible about... We were playing an apoc game and my friend let me borrow his army soe we could field a fully painted force... His orks haven't seen the light of day in years mind u... Anyway as the game proceed model after model comes apart... it was literally raining bits on the table... it was horrible he kept telling me i was holding them wrong even though i was picking them up by th base and everyone thought iwas just hadnling them wrong until in the middle of the opponents turn my friends Deff dread just fell apart... and hit the deff dread next to it and that one also proceded to fall apart...... Ive never ever broken someone elses model until than and i felt horrible about it but... i mean just breathing on them made them fall apart

LLF, that Librarian needs to stay in the display case! That guy is just having the worst run.

Sounds more like they were assembled poorly a long time ago. The poor bond on the superglue just got old & brittle.

I haven't seen it much, but I've seen it.

It seems that theres so many model-molesters out there GAK!

This is why I love my FLGS. At seventeen I'm the youngest individual I've EVER seen in there except on Magic nights.

I'm okay letting others look at my models as I tend to have them pretty firmly assembled. When looking at others' I tend to hold them by the base with both hands like some holy relic, as they always tend to be better-painted than mine for some reason. If they're large or fragile-looking and I've still been granted permission I'll scoot it to the end of the table and turn it to get a closer look. Better safe than sorry when a near-stranger put 6+ hours of work into it.

Didn't happen to me, but I was in the smaller of the two FLGS here a little while back, and this one kid (probably around 14 or 15) was playing against a Nid army with his Orks. When the Nid player charged into CC, the Ork kid let out the loudest "WAAAAAAAAGH" that I had ever heard. He then smashes his fists into the flimsy chipboard table (while still WAAAAAGHing), which sent minis flying EVERYWHERE. Orktard started to laugh like mad and kind of 'hobble' from left to right like the Warbosses in DoW, which resulted in several crushed Nids. Well the store owner, who had messed up one of the members of a SW squad he was working on for a promo display thanks to the Ork player's howl, grabbed a metal ruler from a nearby table and full on walloped the idiot in the back of the head. He then grabbed him and carried him out of the store by his collar, locking the door behind him.

As a final "Stay out" message, he took the pot of Spacewolves Grey he was using and dumped the whole thing on the kid's Warboss. He left it to dry while he put the kid's minis back in their case, and then gave the case, and the ruined Warboss, back to the kid and said "You're no longer welcome in this store" before locking the door again.

when i was at my FLGS this 30 something guy walks in with his kid and starts to chat to the manager. his kid got one of the store's stompas and baneblades (the stompa was his pride and joy) and starts bashing them together, making "kapow!" noises! i took them off him, bent down to his height and whispered:'if you break them daddy will be very cross and you'll get no pocket money 'til you're my age.' the kid frowned, folded his arms and ran straight back to his dad, who was just leaving with a space marine codex.

P.S: no one noticed

My guess would be to say that it's no more considered that than, say, purposefully defacing a hand painted model.

Ok a little history first. at the time i was working in childcare.

So went to my first gamesday and was at one of the tables, space marines vs tyranids. and of course there is an annoying kid about 10. he goes through half of the game being overly dramatic about killing off nids. That was fine but then he started to grab and throw them across the table at us. I could see the GW guy who was the owner flinch everytime. It was obvious he wasn't allowed to correct this kid so i chimmed in. As the kid went to grab the 5th model I grabed his arm first and said enough your behavior is inapropreate. of course I get the 'your not my mom'. I look at him and said "where is she, untill we talk to her your banned from the board". he walked off and i got resounding cheers from the 5 other players and the GW guys both gave me thanks for protecting thier models. mommy showed up angry, 7 of us told her about her son's behavior, I thought the kid was going to get spanked right there. she says 'we're going home and your grounded'...good for that mom.

I made game counters by gluing thin cardboard to metal disks then primering and painting them. I spent some time creating dynamic designs covering the effects or wounds, pinning, failed leadership test, vehicle damage results. The end product was 20 double-sided counters with detailed designs that had the haft and weight of a quarter.

I was playing a four-player game and my partner is engaging in a seemly ceaseless amount of smack talk against our two opponents. I keep telling him to knock it off, which buys about 3 minutes of peace until he starts again. Well, I perform some tactic that gives my partner and I some advantage and he begins taunting again, but to the Nth power and he proceeds to grab up a handful of my counters and one by one began whipping them at our opponents.

My attention is focused on the board so I only grasp what he his doing after he has tossed three of my counters. I snap at him and told him go retrieve the counters he had thrown and not to come back to the table until he retrieve them all – if need be he will lose his movement phase and I will dictate the firing and rolling for his models. My opponents display a grateful affect and nod approvingly at me. He spent less then 15 minutes and came back with two. I accepted the lost as he seemed reasonably defused and we played out the rest of the game with a minimum amount of sassing.

Wow, many badarse kids around. In my local GW it`s not like that at all:

Red-Shirt: "Hi, what are you painting?"
9 year old: "A valkyrie for my guards."
RS: "Have you tried washing it?"
9: "No, i want a light-green fresh look thank you."
RS: "But it gets shades and contrast like the big boys paint it."
9: "No thanks! I want it light!"
RS: "Here, i`ll show you!"
Then he picked up a really nice painted Cadian (the 9 year old`s), and started painting ridicilous amounts of badab black on it. The kid just packed up and left with his 4000pts Apoc. army.
Poor guy
