Just a quick one today as I'm expecting a friend any minute. This model is now done for the most part, though I may still do touch ups here or there. Really interested in your opinions for her though:
Do the proportions work now?
Are the colours ok?
Did the jersey turn out alright?
I tried some new stuff with her face / hair - does it show? (please say yes!)

As always, any comments are much appreciated - it's how I learn!

Hi scarper, glad you finished the model, the hair looks good as does the scenery snd helmet, i like your idea of the pose " hiding behind a wall wating to snipe! , but i don't really like your colour scheme, too much brown, or maybe brown and pink not very complimentry. i like what you did with the eyes looking to the window, and her jumper looks fine, but the colours all seem to blend together ,face pants , belt , hair and wall, Although i can see this is a good idea for camo sake! and that does make the eyes pop more!

Looks good Scarper. Not completely sold on the colour of the jersey, but that's probably just because I was imagining some sort of army/navy wooly-pully. Like the hair and face, good job mate

Looks good, problem I have is it doesnt look a natural lean into the wall-

She seems to be resting on her hair which looks a bit odd, the back should be more flat to the wall and her hair pushed more to the side. The angle she is at she would have alot of weight taken by her back as she is arched over into the wall.

Apart from the I like the colour scheme, and the eyes are good for me!

She looks good! I really like the eyes, as if she was about to look around the window. I think the colors of the jersey are fine with the camo pants. Its a touch of color that shows she is still a female even as she put a bullet between your eyes. The only thing I can really see is that she should be sitting lower. So you cant see the top of her gun over the wall. We wouldnt want to give away her position. Maybe you could stand a bullet riddled sign post up on the back side to hide the top of her gun. Great job!

I'm afraid I'm inclined to agree with Tortured Robot. Something about the way she's leaning against the wall section doesn't seem natural.

Perhaps a simple way to fix it would be to have a little more gravel built up around the heels of her boots. As her having her feet there while pushing herself against the wall would displace some gravel as her heels dug in.

Just a thought...

Alright guys, thanks so much for all the tips. I haven't had a chance to put any of em into practice yet, but I'll get right on it tonight or tomorrow

@purplefood - Thanks for the comment.

@element206 - Thanks a lot, that's really nice of you! The sentinel was kind of a bits box explosion - all kinds of bits I'd never really had any use for. I did have a bit of a plan for how it was all going to go together, but it went out the window as soon as I started building

@neil101 - Thanks for the kind words. I was a little worried about the pink, but I thought that as she's going to be part of my necromunda gang, rather than my army, I could be a little looser with the colours. Hopefully it'll come together as I produce more of them, but I can never really tell
I totally agree with you about the colours washing out a bit - I'll have to see if I can do something about that on the next ones. Maybe a different colour for the plasterboard!

@monkeytroll - Thanks a lot! I was a little skeptical too, but I'm trying to branch out in colours a little for this gang. Doesn't really show in the model I'm making today though...

@Rose_mountainz - Thank you!

@Tortured-robot - Thanks a lot for the constructive comments. I can't really do much about her hair, I'm afraid - it's pretty firmly moulded in metal! I am planning on filling out the ground under her a little more based on your comments and those of a few others, to let her take the weight more on her arse and less on her back I'll post the results once I'm finished with it.
I'm glad you like the paintjob, and I really appreciate the comment. (Your adventurers are still looking amazing, btw!)

@Scrazza - Thanks a lot, that's very kind!

@talons-58 - Thank you! That's pretty close to what I had in mind actually. She's a civvy soldier rather than a professional, and I wanted her to have a touch of life around her I'm planning on filling out the ground a little under her to give her a more natural pose, and I might well take your sign idea. Thanks!

@kenshin620 - Thank you! I threw in a shot of all the gangers I've painted so far in today's update just for you

@Nowlan - Thanks again for the honest advice. I really like your gravel idea, and I'll be sure to implement that when I sort out her basing tonight!

@WillFrost - Thanks a lot! And I'll be sure to sort that out - maybe some planks over part of the window or something.

@cadian512 - Cheers! Really appreciate the comment.

Ok! Today's update, a bit of backstory, and another ganger girl. I've refined the fluff for my gang a little - They now form "21 jackals", the 21st training unit utilised by the remnants. New recruits wishing to join the armed part of the Remnants team must first train with experienced soldiers, and they are dropped off in cities to scavenge and learn to survive on the field. Murdock (the shotgunner) and Crow (shown below) are ex-PDF currently training the guy wth the dog and Ferret, the lady at the window. The remaining heavy and juves, (Skragg, Riff Raff, Coop and Twitch) are wasteland scavengers who wish to be taken back to Pinepoint (my Remnant base), for reasons that I will be explaining in a proper fluff update later! The 21 Jackals cannot call in transport until they have found something of value (part of the training, and due to limited fuel supplies), so the newbies are fighting with them until they can be picked up! I'll be very impressed if anyone bothered to read that, and I'll probs put it in story form later on

This lady (currently going by 'Crow' - an injoke with a friend of mine) used to be part of the PDF. Her backstory will be coming soon, and obvs she still needs a base

and here's a shot of all the gangers so far done together!

As always, your opinions are highly valued, you're all wonderful people, and Dakka is the best. You know the drill!

@Tortured-Robot - Thank you! i was in two mind about the cloak, so I'm glad you like how it ended up

@neil101 - Hehehe, that's just a blurb to explain the characters! I'll do some longwinded stuff to fill out the details later on. And Pinepoint is now used more ironically than anything - it was a wealthy, beautiful area before the civil war. It is... less so now. I'll see if I can find some photos of terrain I've made!
I like giving models eyes, even if it isn't really necessary at 28mm. I just feel like it adds loads of character! I'll put together an MS paint type tutorial on how I do them, though I'm sure there are loads of better ways out there

@Moonshine - thanks a lot, I'm glad you like em!

@terribletrygon - huh. Maybe I should have specified that constructive C and C is valued What do you mean?

My next painting plan is one of the juves, a scavenger who isn't really military at all. I want to give him a colour scheme that represents his civvy status, but I also want to keep him blended in with the others - I can't decide! I was hoping I could steal some Dakka wisdom on this: Any opinions on the (hastily painted!) lineup below?

Cheers guys, you're the best

My vote is for the camo pants. It is an easy way to keep him coherent with the gang and it's easy enough to get your hands on some camo pants. The hoodie color is less clear cut for me. I like a red hoodie, but I think the grey might make more sense.

Crow looks great, though the last layer of camo on the cloak sticks out a bit. I like how the dog handler is coming too. That base works great for the pose.

By the way, where did that new juve come from? I recognize the model, but I can't remember the maker.

Thanks for all the tips and the input guys! Though it's worked out pretty evenly with the voting I've tried to take everything you've been saying into account, and I'm thinking of using this (beautifully MS-painted) scheme:

It's got flashes of the red to tie in with the others and provide some bright eye candy; has camo pants to suggest a little bit of surviveryness (totally a word); but I feel he still looks mostly civvy. What d'you reckon?

To the guys who asked, he's from the copplestone castings scavenger range, which I've absolutely fallen in love with. On a whim (and one I can't really afford, I bought all of these guys:

They're awesome models, and I can't wait to paint them!

@neil101 - You read the whole thing?! I can't be bothered with that and it's my own thread! Thanks a lot for looking through it, anyways - my fluff has evolved a bit over time, but I'm pretty happy with where it is right now

Finally, so this isn't an entirely pointless update, here's some (very early) WIP greens of a new scavenger / medic / heavy I'm working on at the mo

As always, all comments, good or bad (as long as theyre constructive and not about pregnancy dresses...) are much appreciated!

Thanks, Neil and Rose! Bit more progress on the new guy (working name: Farrell), and a question for you:

So new things are the finished collar, a little gap filling, and some work on integrating the two halves of the gun. Hopefully an improvement! The question I has was about the base, however.

At the moment, I'm hoping to have him on top of a building, calling down to someone below. I think I can make the actual building part work - some scattered papers and supplies on top, a few rungs of a ladder on the side and some weathering. But the bit I'm stumped on is the 'empty space' on the base - the bit that's currently black. I thought of clear plasticard to replace that bit of the base, but does anyone have any ideas how I could give the illusion of air or height? I don't think I've seen it done, and looking at it now, I'm worried it might be impossible. I'd love any ideas, however far fetched!

Thats tricky. You could attempt some freaky perspective optical illusion like this

I don't envy you the task though. Might not work on such a small area and would only really look ok from one angle if you can pull it off ..

Thanks for the reply, BigBadWolf! That's a nice idea, but a little outside my painting skill at the mo

Here's Twitch, my first juve, painted up. The pictures kill pretty much all the detail though, and I'm too exhausted after work to take any more. I'll get some decent ones up once he's based!

I'd love any opinions on him, and any more ideas for my problem above. Fluff update to come!

oooo I like the juve.

I also like the Plasma gunner....though a little more filling near the trigger may be needed (or is it a shadow?). Also if possible extend the carry handle on top of the gun down towards the stock as it would integrate the separate halves.

As for the base problem.... I say just cut off the offending area (as long as the model can stand up with out it) and extend the building he is standing on right down to table level. The effect may look like the building is plunging downwards out of sight. Have some drain pipes etc going all the way down too.

Peter

On the Plasma gunner, you could use a square base and make it look like he is looking in a skylight. The area inside the skylight can be painted black and would give it depths. you might fine a skylight at some place that sells model railroad stuff. I like the new guy to! but I would put his pistol on his belt or on a piece of wall and have a torch in his pistol hand. A little fire on the bottle and a torch would really shout molatov. I really like the fact you can only see his eyes! great job!!

Tricky one with Farrell's base. I'd bring the edge of the building to the edge of the base, so the front is flat, have the rest following the curve of the base. But you know, if you want to try painting in some false perspective stuff, that'd be pretty cool

Well friiiig. I was planning on some priming / painting and actually having something to show you today , but here's the view from my window:

Still, snowball fights are pretty awesome, so it should still be a pretty awesome day

Thanks for all the basing tips - I've actually chopped the front bit off and extended the building down now, and I think it'll look pretty good. I really like all the perspective ideas, but it's a little outside my skill set (i.e. not actually that great at painting ). I'll be sure to get some pics up once he's painted up.

@Calibanite Lion - Thanks for the compliments! The fire is a nice idea, I was considering it, but honestly couldn't really be arsed at the time. I will get it done before the gang's finished though!

@Rose_Mountainz - Thanks! And I finished him on the same day as the student 'protests' (read: riots) over tuition fees back home in London: a little bit of moral support even if I couldn't be there in person

@PDH - Thanks for the comment! The dark patch on the gun is actually shadow I filled it already! Good thought on extending the handle - I'm always a little cautious working with resin, but I'll give it a go. And I'm deffo using the drainpipe idea too, so thanks for all the input!

@Talons58 - Thanks for the suggestions, and thanks for the compliments too! I'll be sure to look out for skylighty type stuff next time I'm down at the FLGS.

@Monkeytroll - thanks for the suggestion, that's what I'll be trying now. Really wish I could do the false perspective stuff, but I'm probs better off leaving that to RAFF or HTS or someone

@neil101 - Thanks a lot, that's really kind of you!

The model below I'm not particularly proud of. She was originally going to end up as a model for my gf to paint (and with a pretty different aesthetic to my lads!). but this was my first attempt at doing a large body part completely from scratch, and I'm just not happy at all. I think the proportions are off, and I'm not really happy with her coat. It just looks wrong somehow and I'm considering scrapping her and trying again. Still, thought I'd show you lot before I consign her to the bits box, since you've all be amazingly helpful with this sort of stuff in the past!

(obviously, she's not finished, so some of the GS still looks a little rough! /excuses)

After that mammoth post, I'm still working on GS for another female juve with a civilian style look. Will show you the results soon!

I live on the ridgeway!

Hot damn!

I actually think the girl gangers proportions seem ok, but what I think throws it off is the arms. One of them is an elysian limb, which is think and suits the female build, but the other is a cadians and is scarily chunky, making the mini seem totally unbalanced. I think if she had another elysian arm ti would balance out the miniature, and the torso wouldn't look so weedy.

I hope that helps in any way.

It is almost there. You just need to fix the man shoulder on the sword arm.

Other then that, I like this model. It is pretty cool looking, and has tempted me into getting some of those heads for my Zealots to go with the Hasslefree ones. The hair really suits the pose.

Very nice work here! Definitely be following this from now on. The new arm on the new girl looks better, certainly, but as said could still use a bit of fixing itself. It's still a fairly bulky, muscly arm. The shoulder's definitely a problem, but I think the muscle definition itself is a problem too.
In the first picture from your last post, there's a near vertical line from the shoulder down the arm where the muscles bulge out. I'd suggest filing down to almost there in order to get a more feminine, proportional arm. Of course, if you do end up following konf's suggestion and turning it into another sleeved arm, that'd go right out the window. In any case, not trying to be super critical, just trying to be helpful in fixing the one part that seems off on an otherwise fantastic looking mini.

Sorry if it's been brought up before, but I couldn't find it in the last couple pages. Where are you getting your heads from? I'm especially interested in the new girl and Crow.

BUT GUYZ... Chicks with meaty arms are supar sexeh

So hawt...11111

Though, seriously speaking it would be a little too muscular in comparison to the other arm. I think blending it into another sleeve would be the easier route. And you'd wreak a lot of the muscle work when you sort out the shoulder anyways.

While I agree the original arm is a little on the manly side I dig the pose with the combat shotgun. The arm with shotgun would look fine if you filed it down in all directions.

As for the new arm try filing the shoulder down. A bit like this....

Relatively near where I live in Lancashire there are a couple of pubs called The Ridgeway Arms and The Ridgeway Arms Inn.

Right, thanks so much for all the comments, compliments, and especially for all the suggestions. (Especially for the little diagram, PDH - really helpful, thanks![sub]and sorry again about the kitchen thing[/sub] ) I've reworked her arm a little more, and I went with the sleeve idea. I've still got to sort out the connection between the sleeve and the rest of her coat (which probs isn't going to be ripped anymore), and my GS is curing at the mo. I'm totally listening though, and I promise I'll get some updated pics up soon.

@Zefig - Not at all, I really appreciate constructive criticism! The head on the latest girl (and some other ones I've used) is from microart studios, who are amazing and really good value. Crow's head you might have a bit more trouble with - the whole model is a rare female tanith GW made a few years back, but it's OOP now :( She turns up on ebay occasionally, where I picked up crow for about £8, so you might get lucky! Oooh, and the gas mask, pistol holster and a few changes on the gun are my sculpting, so she won't be exactly the same. Great mini though!

Today's model I am a little proud of, though obvs she's still not finished. This is RiffRaff, the gang's techie and currently a juve.

I've been planning ahead though, and when (if: serious injuries - please not a one, please not a one, please not a one...) she hits that ever-so-important 21exp, she'll look like this:

Cunning, right?

The only thing I'm not sure on at the mo is whether to have any hair coming out the back of her hat or not. In my original sketches she had a short style anyway, so I'm not too bothered, but what do you reckon? Oh, and when she's based up, she'll be ankle deep in sewer water, along with Coop, the other juve I havent made yet. Newbies always get the best assignments!

As always, I'd love to hear what you think, and thanks again for all your input so far!

RiffRaff looks cool, excellent work on the hat and goggles there. I'd say keep the hair under the hat, maybe a few loose strands escaping, but I can see her rocking a crew cut under that cap.

And that planning ahead - nice idea but think that might have been tempting fate, ghosty called it there

@neil101 - Thank you! The variety comes from having very poor impulse control when it comes to finding new bits

@The Good Green - Wow, that's really high praise - I don't know what to say! Thank you so much Her torso is that of 'Rocket Girl' from Schaeffer's Last Chancers. She lost her head and both arms, so it looks fairly different though.

@Monkeytroll - Thanks a lot, that's really kind. In my original sketch she had cropped, bright green hair! I think a short style is probably in order, so I'll probs leave it as she is. I'm really worried I've jinxed her by planning this - she's survived one battle already, but was the only one to go out of action. I seriously dreaded that injury roll Thanks for the comment!

@Rose_mountainz - Thank you!

@Lord Kaesar II - Good eye! That's right, she was based on Rocket Girl.

@talons_58 - thanks very much! I'm glad you like her

@azekio - thank you!

@PDH - Thanks a lot, that means loads coming from someone with your GS skills *happydance*
At the moment, I'm using some "Royal Sovereign Clay Shapers" - mainly the chisel and taper point. I use all kinds of stuff depending on what I'm going for though - thumb tacks and hobby knives can be really helpful when I want something to stick!
The arm is actually blutacked at the mo - I'm hoping it'll be a permanent change if she lives long enough! *fingers crossed*

Bit of a piecemeal update I'm afraid - It's still snowing here, so I've been sledging, built two snowmen, almost crashed my car and joined in many snowball fights, but done no priming whatsoever. I have had a chance to sort out Ferret's base though, so hopefully her pose is a little more natural now -

I've also done a little more to fix the arm on this model. Hopefully she looks a little more proportionate now? Thanks for all your input with her guys, honestly, it was really really helpful:

And finally, today's new model is Coop, another juve. In fluff terms he deserted the PDF after he was called up and conscripted at 16. After a few weeks on the run, he was caught and assigned to a penal legion. His overseer was killed in a rebel ambush, however, and he fled again. Several years later, he met RiffRaff in Ravenport. She disarmed his collar (though he still can't remove it without getting killed), and together with Twitch they ran a trade caravan between local settlements. All three of them joined up with the 21st Jackals hoping to get transport back to Pinepoint (the Remnant base, where conditions are pretty good) once they've found something worth calling out evac for.

He is very close to RiffRaff, and his pose (once I've based him) will be angled on a rock half submerged in sewage (his right foot will be under the waterline) poised to help her climb out.

He's currently an early WIP, but I'd love any tips you might have. Thanks for reading!

On the subject of the plasma gunner on top of the building I would sudgest you get a piece of clear acrilic and paint the back of it much like you would paint the back of a shop window to create a sign / perspective view remember to put a layer of undercoat over the finished artwork them maybe some brown parcel tape as you really don't want the glue to mess up all your hard work painting a nice perspective view

I feel that your new juve (whom looks very nice) could do quite a bit more work on his groin. I'm sure it's the way it is simply because he's not yet finished, but it just looks a bit messy at the moment.

As for the female ganger- I like it! looks so much better proportionwise this time round. I'm sure it's been stated already, but your modelling technique has come leaps and bounds from when you started!

The girl with the sword is DEFINITELY looking better now! Kudos.

Coop looks pretty cool too. I'm not sure if it's the light or what but it doesn't look like the tops of the boots (in GS) blend too well with the rest. Hard to tell in the pic though, maybe it's fine.

The basing idea is awesome though, and it's looking like it'll work out pretty well. Without the basing and the angle though, it looks like he's just saying there saying "What? What're YOU gonna do about it?"

Hey again everyone! Been away from Dakka for about a month (I'm sure you all totally noticed ), so sorry for the abscence! Few medical things to do over Christmas, I'm sure you understand. Does give me a chance to read through a proper plethora of updates on all the threads I'm following though, so bonus there! Not much update either, I'm afraid - been out of action a while. Picked up my brushes again today though, so hopefully haven't deteriorated too much

@azekio - Thank you! Glad you like.

@mullet_steve - Thanks a lot for the suggestion! Again, my freehand could use a fair bit of work, so that might be a little out of my league. I might give it a bash though, cause that sounds like an ace idea.

@monkeytroll - Thank you! I'm trying to get a bunch of story going between my different characters, so I was thinking of doing a few other 'interacting' kind of bases too

@neil101 - Hahaha, thanks! I'll have to dig him up a partner to share cheesy lines with

@terribletrygon - Thank you! And I do see what you mean about Ferret, but I'm kind of fond of her anyway just for all the work I put in. Thanks for all the tips though - I can hopefully get the proportions better next time. Or at least learn from her hideous deformities for when I'm making a scavvy gang

@ghosty - Thanks for the tip, and the compliments. I was going for a 'ragged top' look under his belt, but you're right, it did look pretty busy, so I got rid of it and replaced it with a simpler arrangement. Thanks for pointing that out, might have missed it otherwise! And that's very kind of you to say, I'm blushing

@Zefig - He totally does! And I've done a little more work on the boots since that shot, so thanks for the tip. I'll get some more photos up soon! Thanks so much for the compliments.

@Rabid Ferret - Thank you! And sorry again for being kinda crabby - you caught me at a bad time

@corpsesarefun - It really is. I'd love to go see it myself - It's supposed to be amazing!

@talons 58 - thank you! Really glad you like him.

Today is Riggs and Loki, painted up. Hope you like em, paint jobs not the best, but I'm just getting back into the swing

And a natural light shot:

Finally, Coop managed to roll specialist on his last skill gain (seriously! ), so I'm trying to equip him with a flamer that won't wreck his profile. I figured a big IG job would be ridiculous in the underhive (they all seem to break after 1 shot anyway, so why would you lug that thing around!?), so would anyone object to this being a flamer? I'm worried it looks more like a super soaker!

Great to be back, and sorry again for going AWOL. Would love to hear your thoughts!

Just add a small pilot light and maybe beef up the actual body near the tank (the styrene tube between the grips) and it'll look fine.
Keep in mind though that traditionally flamethrowers use 2 tanks, one for the fuel and the second for the propellant (usually a small high pressure tank of compressed air). From this angle it just looks like 1 tank.

As for the flamer....I think the end needs something more....a pilot light....a flamer nozzle. Having not played with the new Blood Angels that much are their hand flamer nozzles smaller then regular flamer nozzles?

Wow, that's a lot of responses for a day, thanks for the welcome back

@Rogue wolves - thanks! I was looking at real ref pictures, cause I realised I'd never actually seen a flamer outside the GW world. I'm glad you like it

@Nowlan - You're right, it's only got the one tank at the mo. Will have to squeeze on a compressed air tank at the back, I guess. Good shout on the pilot light too, dunno how I missed that. Thanks for the tips!

@Sageheart - Thank you! And of course
Here's a slightly blurry pic of the painted guys so far (though 2 still need basing):

From left to right: Ferret, Crow, Skragg, Twitch, Riggs, Loki

And these are my current WIPs, at various stages:

From left to right: RiffRaff, Murdock, Farrel, Coop, Coop's head.
I'm hoping they'll all look pretty coherent when I'm done!

@WillFrost - Thanks! I'm glad you like it.

@Neil101 - Thank you! They're lolly sticks, splintered with the GW sprue cutter

@PDH - I'm doing ok now, thanks! Been a busy few weeks, but I'm forgetting it now I've shrunk Riggs' eyes a bit - you were right, I'd gone over the lower lids. Hopefully it shows in the group shot above. And seriously, seriously thank you for that link! I spent a couple of hours that I should have been revising last night reading through a lot of those scenarios and rules, I've been trying to get my hands on them for ages! Gonna make some of my games one hell of a lot more interesting, for sure

@Scrazza - Thanks! They do have a certain air of badassedness about them, don't they? Though in Necromunda that tends to quickly turn to 'Oh gak' as it jams the first time you use it, and you end up in charge range of some close combat monster that you were hoping to flambee...

Pretty mini update today - a long overdue base for Skragg. It doesn't look like much, but I used some new techniques, and I'm very happy with it. Hope you like it too!

Fluff update to come over the next few days, but I'd love to hear your opinions in the meantime!

@Sageheart - Thanks so much! Very kind of you to say
@PDH - Hahaha, don't worry: if it wasn't necromunda goodness it would have been something else. I've got an exam in 'special senses' in two weeks - ENT, opthalmology and derm. Far from exciting, and incredibly detailed - necromunda stuff has never looked so appealing! The group shot is blurry as anything anyway, so don't blame your eyes; it's just a quick placeholder til I get a few more guys painted up. I find it hard to believe someone who paints as painstakingly well as you has poor eyesight anyway

Update today is part 1 of 2 of Skragg's story (the guy with the stubber and the mohawk). The speaker is Riggs, and I'm hoping the voice I've given him isn't too corny. Hoping to do something like this for every model, with Riggs talking through the team to a newcomer. Might see how this one goes down first though! I'm trying to get the 'shades of grey' vibe of Necromunda, but I'm pretty sure this is OTT. Let me know what you think, anyway!

The guy with the...? Oh, you mean Skragg! Big guy, spiked hair, doesn’t talk much, carries a gun that looks like you couldn’t lift it? Yeah, that’ll be him. Don’t take offence or anything, he doesn’t talk to anyone. He’ll smile at you, laughs at jokes and that, but he’s been with us for years and I never heard him say a word. Nothing wrong with his head though - You know he built that gun himself? Two autoguns, few pipes from a condenser we found out near Saltash, couple of rings out of an old piston, Throne, I don’t know. Put it all together with that welding gun on his hip. Makes his own bullets, too! Keep an eye on him next time we’re out in the wastes. He stops every now and again, picks stuff up and pockets it. Trash, utter junk. The kind of thing you don’t look twice at, but give it a week and it’s part of a firing mechanism, or he’s put an autoloader on your shotgun. Murdock reckons he’s some kind of idiot savant, but I’m sure he’s all there. Just keeps himself to himself, y’know? Just cause someone don’t talk, doesn’t mean they don’t know how to.

His story isn’t the happiest though – you sure you want to hear it? Well, take a smoke, it’s kind of an epic. Nah, don’t worry bout it, got packs of them back at camp. Factory uphive gives ‘em out to anyone who asks – figured they’d stop all the raids that way. Most of their profits are offworld or something, I dunno.

Right, well I can’t tell you about Skragg without telling you about Scout, the kid we met him through. First time I saw either of em, they were in this drinking pit together in Hole, Second Best between them. This was maybe two years back, I think. We’d been following these rumours of some kind of tech stash that had been uncovered near Lent (turned out to be bunk, before you get your hopes up), and Murdock had us out hunting for someone who knew the area. We’d had a fair few choices, loud mouths proclaiming themselves the best around, wanting paid upfront. Crow’s a good judge of these kind of things though, wasn’t having any of it. We’d heard mention of Scout from a few different people, this kid who’d been in town for a few years, supposed to be the go-to guy. He wasn’t like the others – he was calm, relaxed. We’d heard his name and he knew that. He was 16, maybe 17, no older. Sitting at the table with Skragg, this giant of a man, just talking away at him. Told us he’d learnt his way around scavenging for tech to sell for as long as he could remember, and if we wanted a guide in the badlands, he said, he knew routes that few others did. He knew where the local gangs holed up, and where the local wildlife hunted and nested. If that sounded useful to us, he said, we could hire him and his associate for a 10% stake of whatever was found. No questions about what we were looking for, who he’d be working with. He was good to his word, too. While he was with us, raids went smoother, we didn’t get ambushed once, and no one got et by sumphounds.

He was a great guy, too. Generous with what he had, great sense of humour. Laughed at himself – not many men around who’ll do that, a real rare quality. He was always with Skragg though, just talking to him. The guy never replied, of course, but he always listened, and listened intent – had that look, you know what I mean? Just complete concentration. Always together. They were more than just friends – maybe that way, maybe not. Never felt it was my business to ask.

He told me they’d been partners in the scavenging business since they were kids – they’d been slaves together, working a chem pit in the Northern Wastes. Do you remember Derrick? No? Ah, well, little settlement to the North West, got overrun by the QA maybe 10 years ago. Everyone killed or captured, Scout and Skragg included. Reckoned he was 6 years old at the time. Second night they were in the mines, a friend of his dad’s, a barkeep named Garret, caved in the skull of their guard and made a run for it with four of the neighbourhood kids in tow. You ever met the QA? They’re pretty soulless, even by badlands standards. One of the kids was shot in the head as they ran, and Garret took a bullet to the gut, bled out in a dome 2 hours later. That left three of them. Skragg, aged maybe 7, Scout, and an older kid named Relleck. They did what any kids would do in the situation – panic. Scout wanted to go South, keep running until they found another settlement. He’d heard horror stories of what happened to kids who tried to pass through the hive on their own, but he knew it had to be better than the fate that waited for them in the mines. Relleck wanted to go back, thought that if they returned, hands in the air, they’d let them rejoin the chain gang as if nothing had happened. They’d have been crucified, for sure – the QA don’t forgive the killing of one of their own. Skragg, as always, said nothing. They argued for a few minutes before Relleck pulled the pistol off Garret’s belt and pointed it straight at Scout. For a few minutes, no one did anything. No one knew what to do. Scout cried. He told me that - no bravado, you see? They stood there, for what felt like minutes, just looking at eachother. Eventually, Relleck realised the position he was in. He broke into a smile, and told them to walk. He could at least save himself, he told em, if he bought the escapees back. He'd tell the QA he'd caught them trying to make a run for it, thought he'd be a hero. He told em he wouldn't care if they got boiled alive. Without a second’s hesitation, Skragg elbowed the kid in the face, put him flat on his back. He broke his wrist and took the pistol - Relleck was writhing on the floor. He shot him three times (slow and deliberate), then wordlessly handed the pistol to Scout. Without a credit between them, they headed South, into the badlands.

You may have noticed that Scout does not have a model - this may be a hint as to how he fared in his first few games. If you like this, please let me know - I could use some motivation to write the second half!

Thank you for the compliment, I always check up on this blog, just don't always have comments since its always so good!

I like necromunda fluff, and like the idea of talking to a newcomer, it helps gives you a good form for the story and fluff to work with.
wats the QA? i like the slang you use and the voice of the story. I dont think it is too corny at all. Great voice, would love to hear more!

Hahaha, wow, thanks guys! Was not expecting a response like that on a fluff post I'll be sure to finish his story then - probs next time I have a long train journey (won't be long, honest!). Thanks so much for all the motivation though

@PDH - Don't get me wrong, a lot of it is. It's differentiating the impossibly similar skin conditions and trying to picture bits of the ear which are impossible to see even during surgery that gets wearing. I do love what I do, I just reserve the right to bitch about it during exam season

@Sageheart - The QA will be explained in a little while... Thanks for the kind words, I'll be sure to write a little more!

Apologies that there are no major updates this post, but here's a teaser over what's coming next - hope you like it! (or at least recognise it!)

@ Scarper Why I thought it said

"Chuck these youths!" I thought it was the side of a building where people threw their unwanted teenagers. Oh! And Farrel is one of the said youths who got thrown off the building, but he survived, and grew up in a gang world. He's now standing at the place where he was re-born, looking down in grim remembrance.

Or something.

Hey,

I like him but one part of him is really putting me off...

In the second picture down where the shirt meets the brown jackets lapel on his right (and probably the left). I think it needs some black (or dark colour) lining or maybe you have got white paint on his jacket (sorry I was trying to phrase it better but failed).

The base is something special....nice idea and looks well executed, the rungs give it the height, but I'm not sure there are many Ducks on Necromunda, is the campaign taking place in a wildlife sanctuary?

As for exams I vaguely remember them (5 years ago now, ah bliss).....and bitching about them too.

Thanks, PDH, good spot! Someone always seems to find stuff I've never noticed, so I can go back and fix it up. I've touched up the jacket edge and updated the shot (and put in a picture I somehow forgot to upload!), so hopefully it looks better now? Thanks for the compliment! And I'm only guessing as to what the graffiti says - from the small sample we have it would be impossible do determine what the original artist was thinking. Maybe something about trucks?

@Rose_Mountainz - could be a compliment or an insult, but thanks a lot!

@dark6spectre - Thank you! And I believe he's just noticed a particularly well-stocked second hand book store on the other side of the street.

@Zefig - Thank you! It's part of a renegade autogun, and elysian plasma gun and a LOT of grey stuff. Hopefully the leg thing is just the angle - it's hidden under the folds of his jacket. It's one of the sets of legs out of the empire archer kit, with a few modifications

Thanks for the comments so far guys, would love any more critiques anyone might have!

Well, though the plasma gun is on the right side for him to sight, I'd assume the reason his right eye's out is because of the plasma rifle he's got himself there. But yes, that is a very good indication of building top, though it does bring up the question of how close these miniatures can reasonably be brought to reality. Perhaps a question for a philosophy class

'sup Scarper!

I've been in absentia from all gaming while trying to develop a career... Back on the blogs now if not on the gaming table, and have just reviewed the past 4 pages of this blog. Extremely pleasantly surprised at the turn toward Necromunda you took - it is a mondo-amazing game. I hope you're enjoying it
I can't really add any advice to any of your projects, as they've moved on a way, although a while back you were making a leader for your lady's gang, and I found myself wondering if her back was a little flat? could have been the result of an under-coat flak jacket easily enough though.

Keep up the good work, your fluff is stellar, and do please relate any of the more amusing moments in your games - I need to get back into it and actually make shizzle happen in my FLGS, as I started a campaign then immediately disappeared! :S

@talons_58 - Thanks a lot! Wish I could say that was intentional, but more of a happy coincidence / didn't really think about it kind of thing Worked out pretty well anyway!

@Zefig - The angles aren't the best for showing it off, but you can kind of see the folds over his foot in the 3rd picture down. I'm pretty sure he's still got two feet, anyway!

@Lord Kaesar II - It may have had something to do with it, or it could have been my flatmate's heavy with a heavy bolter (bastard!)... I'm glad you like the base!

@neil101 - Thanks so much, Neil! I'm really glad you like him.

@ChankTheLank - Thanks, Chank! I was pretty surprised myself, they seem to fit really well. I think people might be put off by all the skintight leggings and codpieces, as well as the medievaly detail on some of the jackets. A file and some grey stuff does away with that nicely though, even if it does just feel wrong to be shaving away a guy's crotch area...

@Captain Roderick - Long time no see, it's great to have you back around! I think you were one of the people that suggested I look at Necromunda quite a way back - I hadn't really heard much about it til I came to Dakka, so thanks for raising the interest! Thanks for the compliments, too
I know what you mean about the leading lady's back, it is pretty flat. I was thinking of giving her some kind of pack to cover that up though, so hopefully it won't show. Failing that, it shouldn't be too hard to bulk up, but it's just a case of getting round to her. I've got kind of a game story today, but I'm saving some of it for my fluff - it's amazing how many ideas you can get from in-game events!
Hope all the work stuff's working out - I know the pain of it ebbing away at good quality hobby time!

@monkeytroll - Good to have you back too! Thanks so much for the kind words Might have a fluff update in a day or two actually - depends how desperate I am to avoid revising...

Today's update has kind of a story behind it. One of my on again off again necro opponents is my flatmate. He's been using some proxy models of mine until Ican get a few guys together to represent another gang. We've played a few games now, and some of our characters have a bit of a history. One of his gangers, by the name of "Scat", has been a real badass in several games, and really held his own against some pretty tough odds. Unfortunately, in our latest scrap he took a bit of a pounding (through no fault of mine! Fluff update will reveal all...), and ended up rolling "multiple injuries". Now my flatmate's leader is pretty heartless, and when he ended up with a blind, partially deaf, one armed ganger, he elected to leave him to die in the rubble.

I was having none of this however, and I managed to talk him into letting me take on this crippled ganger, minus his equipment (which obviously would have been looted by his previous friends as he slowly bled out). I happened to have some bionics and a few bits of kit in my gang stash, and here's "Blind" (it's all he'll answer to :( ), back on his feet, and with a new hatred for all things Orlock. He'll be getting a lot of burns and scars in his paintjob, and both pupils will (hopefully) be a milky gray. The flak is 'acquired' arbite armour, and if all goes to plan, it'll have 'arbite' stencilled somewhere on it.
Full story will be in the next update!

Hopefully you can see some of Blind's bionics, but I'm sure I'll do a little more detailing before he's finished. As always, please let me know what you think, and all criticism is happily welcomed!

Post by: Scarper

@Ghosty - You're right. But my flatmate actually had the kit for a bionic eye in his gang stash, and chose explicitly to save it for a "better ganger". Since I had the kit as well, and Scat now had a very explicit reason to hate his old gang, we figured it would fit the narrative pretty well if my gang came across him before he faded out. They also had a good reason to be searching the area, but more of that in the fluff post Thanks for your compliment - underhanded is kinda the way of the world in the underhive anyway

@Scrazza - You're right, it was only one arm. If a ganger loses both eyes though, the rulebook explicitly states they should be retired. Since necromunda's way more story-based than 40k, though, we figured we could let it slide! And dead on on the head choice - good eye!

@Captain Roderick - Thanks! The fist is slightly modified from one of the metal cadian sergeants; I just switched the thumb over to make it a left hand instead of a right one. I'm glad you like the stance, it went through a fair few changes - trying to get a natural running pose with a forearm bigger than your head is surprisingly difficult! I haven't decided whether he'll get full arbite kit yet - he's only supposed to have flak on my gang list, so I feel like he's kinda pushing it already. He'll definitely have more electronicy gubbins before I'm done though
And that's 100% what I was going for with the poster, I just didn't realise at the time! The Underhive players had recently found an ancient offworld film script about a fantasy world called "Pearl Harbour" and decided to put on a play about it. It didn't do too well :(

@neil101 - Thanks so much, man! Scrazza is dead on, it's from the space wolf set. Be warned though - as it's an SM head, it's pretty massive, has no neck, and this weird metal collar thing. Worth the carving though IMO!

Thanks for all the comments everyone! MIght be quiet for a few days now - it's exam season in earnest! :(

Thanks to the GW redesign of the Cadian models, that style of armour - supposedly flak - can easily pass for Carapace, and vice versa. So as long as it's not as complete as http://kofler.dot.at/40k/units/Arbites_Necromunda_Enforcer_Patrol_Squad.gif you should be fine with a bit of artistic licence.
how many bionics is he going to have in the end? always found those hassle, although a very-shaved-down bolt pistol muzzle makes an ok bionic eye, if you find the right one.
And I can understand Pearl Harbor not working as a play in the 40K universe. They'd never be able to get the necessary celebs and pointless hype needed to make people actually go and see it

Hey all! Bit of a rubbish fluff update, something I wrote in 15 minutes as a revision break! It's the start of a campaign I'm planning, and also a bit of character development for Farrell. The structure before the story starts is ripped off directly from some of Migsula's fluff, so I'm really hoping he won't mind

Hope you like it! And if it's a bit crap, eh, it was 15 minutes

But she was so desperate...

Scarper, this log is one of the reasons I finally got around to registering on this site. Been following it for ages and I love how its developed - your personalising of every miniature has been impressive and very cool. Especially for Guard - no wonder you shifted towards Necromunda

Twitch - I love this guy, he looks cool and just a little crazy with that petrol bomb.

Coop - flamethrower equals WIN. Looks fine - if anything I would lengthen the nozzle a little but otherwise leave it at that. His pose is sweet by the way, good luck with the water effects.

Riffraff = Shizzle- the chop job there is sweet and I love the hat.

Farrell - this guy is very cool and the base has evolved splendidly - I love the graffiti, especially the l'il red dragon thing. He really does look like a kinda father figure. Tho that may be cos your fluff has corrupted my mind.

Sweet fluff by the way, and loving your recent adoption of a blind ganger. Thanks for all your hard work and I hope that your recent health issues aren't too serious.

Hey again Dakkadians! Thanks for the replies

@neil101 - Thank you! Funny you should say that - originally, it was going to be a pict-feed, but I couldn't find a way to cover his movements without looking like either a script or breaking the dialogue. Maybe next time!

@Jihad_Ragsta - Thank you so much, I really mean it. The idea that others might be enjoying what I'm doing really helps keep me going when I'm having a slow patch. Thanks for all the input and the compliments too. I'm glad you like Twitch - your comment slapped me into actually finishing him today, so hopefully you'll like

@ghosty - It would! Would be pretty expensive though, considering he could still have a 1 in 6 chance of taking all his gear with him to the grave every time someone takes him down...
(Also, I don't think I've mentioned it, but your avatar is ace! I really like all the little changes you make to it - are they for any events in particular, or just whatever you feel like changing at the time? )

Exam's done now, but I have a research project to write up for Friday, so hobby time is still a little slim :( Here's a few things I've been working on this weekend in spare moments though, just to show you I'm still ticking slowly over:

The parts for Coop's base turned up, so he's finally getting a lick of paint! I was really really proud of this head, right up until Dakka zoomed in on it, at which point I vomited. No viewing in the gallery allowed!

I've also based up Twitch, and had a bash at making his molotov a bit more interesting. I'm not really happy with it - anyone happen to have any good techniques for sculpting or painting fire?

As always, all input is majorly valued, good or bad. So be as harsh as you like!

Hopefully a bigger update soon - free time would be lovely!
Scarp

Great log! For fire I suggest you basecoat sunburst yellow and then add 2 layers of the baal red wash. You can then re-highlighrt with yellow. Again great minis!

Sup scarps,
I think the thing that makes the molotov a bit odd is that it seems to have fire coming out of it - if the flame had got in that far, twitch's day would get considerably shorter!

Possibly, if you can be bothered, remodel it so there is a rag coming out of it, with flames rising from that?

Other than that, I enjoyed the fluff and keep your chin up lad!

@ Scarper - H'why, the picture changes whenever I am inspired to do so. For example, in the last week I had a major Metal Gear Solid nerdy moment with someone on Dakka, and thus was inspired to snake the ghost up. So whenever the mood hits me, it gets changed.

Incidently, Twitch is looking good, and Coops mug seems good as well.

@konst80hummel - Thanks so much, that's really nice of you! I'll be sure to try out your flame recipe when I get a chance,

@Cpt. Roderick - Good point! I've snapped off the flame and added a lil green stuff rag in - I'll post a new pic once I've got it painted up. Thanks for the tip! And I'm glad you like the fluff as well
Any luck with that sniper you were looking for?

@ghosty - I just really like the little changes. I'll see if I can guess what's going on next time you switch him up! Thanks for the compliments, too.

@neil101 - Hey! It's only been... bugger, a little longer than I thought it was. If only I didn't have work to do, I'd have more time for painting! The copplestone casts are ace - every model in their scavenger line has a character of its own. Glad you like his base - I've been hunting the net for ideas!

Speaking of which, here is a bonus rubbish update for anyone who happens to be looking at the thread again - Coop's base! Had a lot of fun playing round with weathering powders and inks. Hope you like!

Thanks neil! Late night blog viewings are fine in my book - I won't tell anyone if you don't At the mo I'm using the FW weathering powders - mainly their orange rust and fresh mud, though black soot and a few others are pretty handy too. They're a little tough to use - I'm still learning how to do it right, tbh. I'd love to see what you do with them though (Can't believe how quickly you're getting through stuff on your blog!)

Today's update is Coop, painted up. I had some fun with water effects, and tried really hard to get his jeans to look like he'd just waded in them. There are a few bits I'm happy with, and several that I'm not, but I'm waaaay too tired to go into it. Bonus points for anyone who identifies which are which! Sorry if the angles in the pictures are a little strange - I really am dead on my feet, and can't be arsed to retake em. Enjoy, anyway!

UPDATED PICS BELOW

Please let me know if you like / dislike, I'm pretty ambivalent about this one. Constructive comments would be ace too, so please criticize away!
Thanks for all your input so far,
Scarp

Right, lemme chuck some CC your way!

Whilst I like Coop, I'm not a fan of the posing of the head. At all. I previously liked the idea of him facing the way his hand is, helping someone out of the water, y'know? Now his head seems at a bit of an odd angle, and kinda changes the aesthetic of the imagery somewhat.

Now, I like his jacket, but I feel the fur trimming (great work there) seems to be lost when set against his whit t-shirt.

Water effects look ace, as does his hair. Very unruly, and very cool.

Hope my moan hasn't dissuaded you at all

A few people have gotten some good mileage out of using 'top knots' clipped off of Ork heads for fire, and painting those up.

Hi Scarper

Have to agree with Ghosty about the head.
Again this is intended as constructive criticism and something to hopefully help with future conversions.

It is a common fault imho with miniature figures because unlike flesh and bone, plastic is inflexible. So when the head is rotated the neck just goes with it and is unconvincing.
If you gently place a hand around your throat- GENTLY- don't want you throttling yourself! and turn your head to look over a shoulder you can get a feel *ahem* for hoe the neck flexes.

If the ganger is looking up whilst turned then the gap at the back of his head and shoulder would narrow.
Again place your hand at the back of your neck and copy his pose. (Would advise not doing so in public )

Hope that helps
Otherwise I think he is grand and the watery base is good too.
Might be worth really matting down some of the corrugated iron at the top to really emphasise the wet parts. It is hard to tell if the top part is matt, may be the photo/flash that is homogenising the finish?

@ghosty - Not at all! I really appreciate the pointers. You did manage to hit on my biggest problem first of all - the frigging head. I tried and tried to get him to work looking the other way, but because I'd painted his head before the body, his gaze was in the wrong place. Looking at someone behind you, you'd turn most of the way, then gaze right. It sounds insignificant, but without it, the pose just looked wrong. I was in a rotten mood last night - long day, don't ask - and didn't want to risk messing up the whole head just to change the eyes. I will be doing it this lunchtime though when I'm on break from work, so I'll try to update this eve. Thanks for the tips on the lining and the jacket too - I'll throw a few more washes on the lining, and get some highlights on raised folds. It's all stuff I should have done before - should never paint in a "can't be arsed" mood!
Oooh, and thanks for the compliments! I was pretty pleased with how the base came out

@Briancj - Thanks a lot, that sounds like a really nice idea! I'll see if I can get hold of some ork heads next time I'm in the FLGS.

@Chibi Bodge-Battle - Thanks a lot for the tips! I do understand what you mean, and I'll try to keep it in mind when I switch up his posting later today Thanks for the compliment! It might just be the photo on the corrugated iron - it all got a matte spray, and I then reglossed the water.

UPDATES TO COME LATER TODAY

The head is much better now and the right hand makes more narrative sense, as it looks like Coop is offerilng help to a comrade.

I would lose the gloss on the jeans tbh
Wet denim darkens but soaks the water so tends not to gloss up.

Maybe also tone down the whites of the eyes with a blue grey wash. IMHO at the scale the whites would not be so prominant. If you consider it, can you see the whites of someones eyes if they are so far away they appear to be the same size of a mini. That is a personal thing though.

What an awesome blog! Loving the fluff behind the models, something I really want to work on, your stuff is really inspirational. I can't believe I didn't find this earlier. Just spent the afternoon reading the entire thing. I'm doing medicine too, in 4th year at Dundee. And your blog was a very welcome change from hernias!

Did you choose a name for the vulture dude?

I think the shine on the jeans makes it look like its not just water he's been in, maybe fire some green-brown stains on it too?

Keep up the fantastic work!

@ Chibi - Thanks! I tried to follow your advice, so hopefully the neck looked a lot more believable I'll bear the tip with the jeans in mind, but might not be able to correct it on Coop himself, as the only matte I've got is a spray. In terms of eyes, I've always thought that it's kind of a personal choice thing. I realise the eyes wouldn't be as visible as they are at 28mm scale, but I feel like they add a lot of character to a model, and let you empathise more. Might just be me though! Thanks so much for all your input though, it's really helpful and always appreciated

@ghosty - Thanks! I'm glad you like him!

@Perkustin - I actually loved that game, but any resemblance is completely unintentional. Had to look up a 'half-tuck', but damn, I should have added one!

@Mohaniker - Hey, I'm fourth year too! Hope you didn't land a surgical attachment for GI - staring into body cavities gets pretty old pretty quickly
Thanks so much for the compliments, it's really nice of you to say so! I think a lot of the praise is undeserved with so much of the awesome stuff to see on Dakka though Thanks for the suggestion with Coop's jeans, too - I'll see if I can dirty them up a little more. I love writing the fluff parts, even if I never feel they're particularly well done - with necromunda especially, it seems so much easier to put time into a model if you've got a real character fleshed out in your head ! Do you play yourself? The vulture guy is still currently unnamed - I never really finished the guard when I started with necro. Still open to suggestions though...

TODAY'S RUBBISH UPDATE - More changes on Coop! The excitement! The head I used might be getting a break for a bit, and here's a possible, WIP replacement - what do you reckon?

It's a little hard to see in the pic, but the catachan head has had some (minor!) facial surgery. I was going for a playful, mocking half smile. She's stuck, and his hand's just out of reach. I'm halfway through some fluff for the pair of them, but they're supposed to be really close, so as a friend on another forum suggested, the other head didn't really fit. Still, working on!

Hey up Scarp,
No further luck on the sniper front unfortunately, I've kinda sidelined that plan in exchange for writing plot for now. I might look into it again when the game's up and running - hopefully next week.

As far as the changes to coop are concerned, I think the swaps are a good idea, and I'll be really interested in how that new head works out. Do you reckon you could post another pic of him from a different angle, maybe as if he's looking at us?

Also, I think the wooly hat is cool, but maybe needs some more texture - like the horizontal structure in the example you posted.

Good luck!

Dig your conversions very much. You seem to like to convert everthing that can't run fast enough, so we're on the same page there. I especially like your conversion on the weapons, something many people don't pay enough attention to. Doing a scratchbuild something, working on it a trillion hours, just to put a standard plasma pistol in his hand, straight from the sprue. Yay!

Another thing is the flavor of your gang. I can't say it is exactly what I would be doing (look at my blog and you'll see it's totally not), but I think it is very distinct, well done and credible. It just feels a bit to "real world"/"near future" to me, but thats also its main appeal, I think.

Keep going and consider me subbed.

Ok, neil101 and Captain Roderick, I'm checking my house for cameras. Right now. Just finished adding stringy bits and some horizontal lines to his hat and then came here to find you've both suggested the same things! How very... convenient.

@neil101 - No worries, it's a very early WIP, and my previous sculpts have been crappy enough that that could have been an attempt at hair! Thanks for the idea on the string, you read my mind...

@Roderick - Shame. I'm still on the lookout, anyway. Loads of snipers, but not so many bodysuit ones. Again, thanks for the suggestion with the hat, and the apparent psychic implant you sent along with it

@Baiyuan - Thanks so much for the kind words! I know what you mean about the gang being a bit close to our timeline visually - I'm probably not throwing in enough of the gothic vibe of 40k - but I don't really mind that. I think it helps me relate more to what I'm working on, and if all else fails I can always use the "millions of planets, bound to be on one of them" line Honestly, thank you so much for your compliments, it's really nice to hear that kind of thing. I'll be sure to check out your blog as well (sorry I haven't seen it already!), can never have enough necromunda love on Dakka.

Here's the mugshots of Coop's head / hat, anyway. Hope you like! It looks pretty messy at the moment, but I think I should be able to sort him with paint and a bit of cleanup.

And as always, would love to know if you love / hate / are indifferent towards it

@neil101 - Thanks! I'm still writing fluff for these guys, but suffice to say that RiffRaff knits (badly) in her free time, and Coop will knock out anyone who insults his hat.

Coop is now (finally!) done, I think. His neck needs an easy GS fix, which I will get around to eventually. I reckon I could have painted his face a little better, but at this stage I'm ready to accept it. I like his head a lot more than the previous - I reckon it fits his character much better. Hopefully you'll like it too!

Nice work Scarper The hat-head definitely suits the mini and the character better. I love the idea of some bad-ass taking the mick out of his wooly hat and getting a chain in the face

I assume the neck gs you want to do is at the back of the neck, that's the only area I see that needs any attention. Those catachans breed thick-necked little buggers don't they?

Thanks for all the responses, guys!

@Chibi - Thanks so much! Your tips helped out a lot, just need to sort his neck now.

@talons58 - Thank you, I'm glad you like him! I'd like to say the reference to your nephew was intended, but that might be a little creepy I will definitely have to look at firefly, it seems pretty funny from the snippets I've seen. My gf got me into Red Dwarf when she lent me an omnibus book thing, it really is such a good show!
The flamer is just a standard flamethrower in-game. It looks pretty bodged because it was 'invented' (one of the ingame skills) by Skragg - it does the job, but it's not pretty. Considering how often flamers break or run out of fuel in game, it seemed kind of fitting that it looks like a super soaker filled with kerosene

@Zefig - Hahaha, I hope so. Glad you like the new one. The old head has been retired to my bits box for now, but i'm sure he'll end up on someone. He wasn't right for Coop, but it seems a shame to chuck out something I spent ages sculpting and painting. Maybe a character who's more of a hardass

@neil101 - Thanks! And RiffRaff's working on them, I'm sure!

@Captain Roderick - It does have a little bit of a 90s vibe, doesn't it I'm hoping to have a little more fluff done by the end of today, and don't let their cuddly appearance fool you...

@PDH - Thank you so much! And I saw your post on Baiyuan's thread before I saw you posting here, which made me feel all warm and fuzzy There may be a reason noone's tried to combine 40k are peruvian hats before though...

@monkeytroll - Thank you. And I liked the image a lot too The neck is indeed the bit I need to fix - it's a pretty simple job, so I'll try to get it done before I finish RiffRaff. Thanks for the kind words.

@Sageheart - Thanks so much, I'm glad you like it!

No update yet today (and I'm supposed to be working, so should really make this quick), but just to say these guys arrived in the post today: (Obviously, these aren't my paintjobs)

Wow, sorry guys, thought I'd put the link up, wasn't trying to be a tease! They're from sedition wars, the new line from studio mcvey, and as such are exorbitantly expensive. They're coming out in metal eventually, and will be cheaper, but they did a limited resin cast - I'm a sucker for limited casts, and will tend to buy anything if you stick a number on it!

They sync up really well with 40k stuff (though obviously, they're more realistically proportioned than GW's "hydrocephalus and clown hands brigade"). Here's my two latest acquisitions alongside a Tanith ghost and a catachan:

The girl will be joining the 21st Jackals, so I've made a few changes to de-tech her and make her gun a little more 40k. I got rid of the 'future grooves' in her armour plates so I can make them look a little more improvised too. Hope that helps you guys out though!

The gent will be joining a different group that shall be revealed some time shortly...

Coop looks very cool now, I was a bit alarmed when I thought his unpainted photo was actually leering at RiffRaff. He doesn't seem to be doing that now Like the hat, very funky (I thought it was a topknot originally too, sorry).

Is that future dude joining the QA?! Cos some of us wanna hear more about them...

@The Good Green - Thanks a lot! And I'm glad you like the jeans, I worked really hard on them

@Chibi - Arg, I know. The whole range is pretty incredible, but I just can't really justify the price - I actually felt guilty about blowing the cash on these two! Still, small treats every once in a while and all that, right?

@monkeytroll - I saw her! Seriously awesome, can't wait to see what you do with her

@Rose_Mountainz - Thanks so much! And now I'm imagining him with a really broad norwegian accent...

@Jihad_Ragsta - Thanks a lot! And yeah, I didn't like the way his face turned out initially either. Was hoping I could fix it with paint, but it didn't really work out. Still, now I have a pre-painted angry face if I need to throw someone together...
About the QA, all in good time Honestly, should have a fluff update soon, I'm almost done with uni work for this week.

@neil101 - I'm pretty sure it's an intentional thing - the other models theyve made have all been around 32mm, but this new, non limited edition range seem to have been shrunk down a little to fit the more popular scale. Good news for me, anyway!

Todays update - RiffRaff's been painted. IGNORE THE BASE - I've done three coats of Woodland Scenics 'Realistic Water' and it keeps bloody shrinking, so I couldn't be arsed to wait for this one to set before I showed you lot. I'll get a base shot up once it's done

It turned out that her face was absolutely covered in clear superglue that I hadn't noticed (got the head in a trade), so I had to pretty much remake her mouth before painting. I took the opportunity to give her a cigarette! Hope you like, and as always, there are bits I like and bits I don't.

In this shot you can probs just make out a few details that'll be visible once the base sets clear - some rusty handles and gubbins, a few tattered papers and some mud.

And finally, after a billion changes, this is almost complete!

As always, please let me know what you think - it's the best way to improve, so be as criticismerific as you like

Haha, is that a flowery backpack with the radio in it? Very nice. And both of their bases, especially working together, are super cool. And I've gotta say, the amount of character you manage to fit into 28mm is pretty stunning.

As ever awesome models! Coop is amazing, the face looks spot on.

The little touches like the flowery backpack, and the bear ears on the hat really makes the Riffraff model shine, things that you wouldn't pick up without looking closely, and showing how much work your putting into the models and the characters! Keep it up!

Are you going to make some models of the raiders and enemies of Ridgeways group? Also a group shot is definitely on the cards!

I'd love to get into Necromunda, I downloaded the Inquisimunda rules, and I'm very tempted to start an AdMech Explorator band, I gave into temptation and finally got the Titan Techpriest model from FW. I want to give it a lot of thought and build up characters, taking your blog for inspiration and all the others on Dakka. But with the course its difficult to get the time!

Cool little ears on the hat. Hopefully that water will settle a bit more from her legs though.
As to that dino-rider you may have a bit of a wait there I'm afraid. I don't feel I could do the dino justice with my current paint skills, so I'm leaving her for a while yet, just couldn't resist getting her when I saw her, especially as it's a limited edition - Although I've been thinking another one might be cool to make a little diorame with

Got to repeat myself. I like the new addition, good conversion, solid painting, great style. Still I can't help myself about that lack of "gritty dark endless war" feeling. Seeing the new one and the boss together my immediate association was "cool boarders gone militant".

Except for her nasty habit I really like her (smoking in a sewer would be a really bad idea with methane gas pockets). Having the two models working together is great idea. Paint job is cool....flowery back pack ace....oh and cute little ears on the hat.

I know being a man I will never understand women* but hats with ears WTF?! fashion . Actually funny story... Here in Preston lots of girls have had their hair coloured red (I assume it has something to do with Rhianna) ....I was walking past top shop just before Christmas and saw this girl wearing a santa hat. As I got closer I realised she was just wearing a white fluffy head band with her red hair in a high pony tail. Oh how it made me giggle.

*its ok to not understand women to quote one of my exes "I don't blame men for being useless when it comes to understanding women. Women don't even understand themselves!" Ah she was a genius.

Scarper the dogs are currently in quarantine aka the sixth drawer of my bits box. The scavvies really are on hold until I have painted 1 Archon, 6 Trueborn, 1 Space Marine for the Dakka conclave and completed my secret project (which is going well, they actually have some paint on them). I reckon April will see the dogs rise their ugly heads.

@Chibi - Thanks a lot! And I know, right? If only she'd seen all those videos in school...

@Zefig - Thanks for the wonderful compliment - that's a really, really nice thing to say The backpack is indeed pretty flowery! I thought it would add a touch of personality to what was looking like a pretty standard outfit.

@Mohaniker - Thank you for the kind words! I'm planning on making a few more gangs at the moment - all of them have different roles in the campaign I'm planning. Without giving too much away, you can expect to see some Van Saars and some Scavvies pretty soon, as well as a pretty brutal group of Orlocks. I thought I might make them at the same time, so I can give myself a little variety! Not til the Jackals are done, though, of course. And I'm sure they'll pick up a few new members as I go anyway

I'll see if I can get a group shot up in 2 model's time - that will be the Jackals ostensibly complete!

Again, thanks for the kind words about the characters. The AdMech are awesome - so much conversion potential there! I'd love to see what you get up to - you will be posting a PLog, right?

@Briancj - Thank you! And that made me chuckle out loud in the library, where people are now giving me strange looks. So thanks for that too

@Lord Kaesar II - Thanks a lot. And honestly, the base will work out - the water effect is just a bit of a bitch to work with. I'll get pics up as soon as she's done.

@monkeytroll - Thanks! It's actually the rest of the water level that I need to bring up. Stuff is insanely frustrating, as it all seems to be looking perfect right up until it sets hard, and it's about a 1/4 the depth it was. Still, progress pics will be appearing, probably on Monday
The limited edition bit always gets me too - what would happen if it sold out?! I think you're underselling yourself though, your painting is really very good!

@Perkustin - Thanks so much! And don't worry, I won't judge

@Cpt Roderick - Hahaha, I know what you mean. Thanks so much for the compliments! Next up is probably Murdock, the gang leader. I posted up greens for him a while ago, but he's sat on my painting desk looking sad for months now. After that, Blind is the last of the Jackals still to paint (right up until someone gets killed or injured, of course! ). I got some of that fluff you were after to come first though!

@Baiyuan - Thank you! And I do appreciate what you're saying. Coop and RiffRaff are among the 'lighter' gang members - civilian scavengers doing what they can to survive. Murdock is more of a professional, so hopefully you'll like him a little better!
Also, I keep meaning to comment on your blog, but not really having the time - I'll get something up there this evening some time, promise!

@PDH - Thanks so much! I'm glad you like the little details.
As for the smoking, that genuinely did cross my mind. But then I remembered that the guy she spends all her time hanging out with is carrying a home made flamer, so I figured fire safety probably wasn't first and foremost on their minds
THe santa hat girl sounds hilarious - I told that story to my flatmate when I first read it, and he properly cracked up. It's certainly an interesting look! Maybe it was intentional?!
And can't wait for April - great to hear your eyes are sorting themselves

thanks so much for all the comments everyone! Fluff update to come, but after all that, I better put it in a new post. Don't want to break the Dakka servers!

Riggs moved through the shattered entranceway, following the glow of the fire. He could hear them talking - low and cautious, still unsure of themselves. He smiled. It would be good to get some new company. The dog growled, leaning into the rope around her neck as the campfire came into view. Riggs bent down, pulled her in and patted her side as her hackles rose.

"Easy, Cass. Calm down, girl. They're friends, ok? No one's trying to kill me today."

The strangers by the campfire turned towards him, the male half rising. His hand was at the holster hanging off his belt. The girl spoke first.

"Uhh... hey. You okay, man? We're new. Murdock's cleared us, so... no need for the dog, alright?"

Riggs laughed, raising his arms in what he hoped was a disarming gesture. "She's not that bad, honest - just talks a big game. She'll be fine once she's used to you." He tied her off against a door frame and patted her muzzle once more. "You mind if I join you?"

The man sitting opposite the fire still hadn't lowered his hand. The girl turned to him, and he nodded, sitting back where he had been. He smiled, and appeared to relax. Riggs pulled a bottle optimistically labelled "Wildsnake" from his bag and offered it to his new companions. The girl took it and drank deep before spluttering a few times and passing it back.

"Not the best, huh? Got it in Jento - should have been warning enough, I guess." He took a sup of the spirit and passed it on to the man opposite him. In the light of the fire, the thick gouges in the newcomer's arms were thrown into relief. "Name's Levin Grigg, though the folks round here tend to call me Riggs." He sighed. "Guess two syllables was a little much to ask. The girl growling at you on then end of that rope is Cass. I know the welcome Murdock gives to strangers can be... a little less than friendly, so I figured I'd stop by and say hi. What're your names?"

"Coop." It was the man who had spoken first. He was tall and heavy set, but probably no more than 20 years. Fresh cuts lined his features, and fresh bruises covered much of his face. His nose was set at an awkward angle - a look that seemed recently acquired, based on the crusted blood underneath it. Riggs could make out the profile of a penal collar beneath the man's coat - an interesting one, no doubt. "My friend here is Riff Raff." He paused for second, and grinned a smile with more than a little wince in it as he extended his hand. "Nice to meet you."

"Riff Raff?" The girl laughed. She was about Riggs' age, with dark eyes and bright green hair cropped short to her head. Slung at her side was a heavy backpack, filled with what looked like computer equipment.

"It kinda stuck! I grew up in Haverbrook, you know?" Riggs looked blank. "Haverbrook! Oh, come on. Big, fancy, posh oppressive arsehole community, couple miles outside the hive? Lots of trees? Back when there were still trees, that is. You'll know it if you see it." She paused for a second. "You know what a tree is, right?" Riggs smiled wanly, took the proffered bottle from Coop.

"So it's an ironic thing?"

"Sort of. fething hated that place, ran away the second the factories blew up. I like it - kinda burning out my roots, y'know? Guess my family got evacced though, so maybe I shoulda stayed." She laughed.

Riggs thought for a second. "So how did you guys end up in Rukob?"

"Series of coincidences, I guess." RiffRaff grinned. "Coop, me and Twitch - have you met Twitch? You'd uh... You'd remember if you had." She giggled. "We were working as guards for this donkey-cave guilder, going place to place. Nothing too serious, just -"

Coop, who had been valiantly swigging at the bottle, cut her off with a smile. "Aw, come on Riff. He wasn't that bad. For a guilder." RiffRaff glared at him.

"He was a solid gold prick. He ripped off everyone he met."

"He was a guilder."

"He charged more for drugs if people were sick!"

"He was a guilder."

"He mixed sumpwater in the liquor!"

"He was a guilder."

"He shot that trader in Saltash!"

"The one who tried to stab him?"

"When he ripped him off!"

"Like a guilder!" Coop broke into a playful smile, which was apparently a little too wide as he grunted and rubbed bruised jaw. He turned to Riggs. "Carson was an underhanded, backstabbing con artist, but that just meant that he was good at his job. With us though, he was a good guy. We sat shotgun on his caravan between settlements. Easy money, apart from the odd raider or underhive moron. Between us though, they didn't really have a chance."

"So what happened?" Riggs took another swig of the 'wildsnake' Coop had passed him, gagging a little as the aftertaste hit him. It really was foul stuff.

"Well," RiffRaff muttered. "like he said, we covered his ass between settlements. If Carson wants to shoot his mouth off to every guy in every drinking hole in Skillett, we can't be there to stop the guy who... well, shot his mouth off, I guess." Coop laughed and put his arm around her shoulder, but stopped when she threw him a look. "Turned out he messed with some local hired gun, a real badass apparently. And apparently he wasn't in the mood for Carson's gak talk." A look of sadness spread momentarily across her face, before her features quickly hardened. "Either way, we found ourselves between employments." She passed a bacc-stick to Coop, lighting her own off the campfire. "You want one?" Riggs shook his head."Eh, your loss, they're good."

Riggs smiled, patting his shirt sleeve. "Got my own. From uphive." RiffRaff looked briefly impressed, but pulled it into a good natured sneer, rocking her head from side to side. "So how'd you find yourself here? Skillet's what, like, 10, 15 miles East?"

"Business venture." Coop replied. "Whatever we think of Carson," a glance to RiffRaff,"he went out owing us a fair few creds in backpay. He also left behind a fair few crates of spirits, munitions and condensor parts that he was no longer using. We heard of a trader who didn't ask many questions out at this end, but unfortunately didn't quite make it all the way here. The guide we hired was the same guy who gave us the tip, and said he knew the fastest way from Skillet to Rukob - yeah, yeah, I can see in your face that you know where this is going. It was stupid as hell, I know." Riggs raised his hands and shook his head, trying to repress a grin. "There were 20-odd armed men - thugs hired by the local guild interest - waiting for us in a pass about 5 miles out. We did what any sane people would do in that situation - gave em everything." He paused for a moment. "Twitch was raging, practically frothing at the mouth. Couldn't stand the idea that we weren't going to fight them. We managed to calm him down before he shot anyone though, or I'm guessing we wouldn't be here." He spat in the fire and watched it hiss. "Still, I'd love to meet that 'guide' again. Just the once." RiffRaff cracked her knuckles.

"They let us live, which was an unexpected courtesy. Took everything, of course, but let us go. Not before their boss had given me a "lesson about trade rights" though." RiffRaff put her hand on his shoulder, but he shrugged it off and smiled at her. "We made it though. It's almost hard to hate them, they did it so well."

The dog had been whimpering for a few minutes now. Riggs pulled another bottle from his pack, set it on the rubble he'd been sitting on.
"That's one hell of a way in. Look, I need to move, or Cass here'll never forgive me." He gestured at the bottle. "That's yours, if you think you can stomach it. Sounds like you guys could use it." He untied the dog from the post, pushing her back as she licked his face. He stood upright, turned again to the two newcomers. "Welcome to the Jackals, guys. It's been a pleasure."

If you got through all that, kudos to you. There's a Riggs style introduction to the two of em still to come, this is just a little flavour. I wouldn't believe their story, either Please please please comment if you like it, or if you don't. I'd love ANY input you might have.

Well ... ilike it , Its cool to read the history of guys we have been watching you create, it adds a level of realism to your models. But what i like most is the easy conversations your guys have, you seem to be able to create atmospehere of old west style frontiersmen, trying to keep a semblance of honur and dignity, without losing their tough guy front, and all around things around are trying to drag them down. I think it will be be sad to see them go , if they ever do

Read all the way through and liked it a lot. I like a good campfire chat in an postapocaliyptic setting. Nice and credible introduction of the characters.

I also don't think their story feels too much like made up, thats what the underhive is all about, bad gak happening. Those who live to tell the tale will always be telling a story nobody would believe, if it wasn't for the other few hundrets of people who would have told a totally normal story, but couldn't since it ended with their own totallly normal deaths. Life is cheap down hive.

One thing I always find very exciting about those bondfire chats is to create some kind of vague threat. It is that split between unknown dangers in every shadow and a perfectly normal conversation, that I love about such scenes. For example Riggs could drop a line as a subtle warning about something. Do you know face-eaters? They would be perfect, nobody could really enjoy his booze, when he knows that there have been unusually many cases of face-eater attacks in the area. On the other hand you can't risk looking for them either, cause thats when they get you. Tension!

@neil101 - Thanks a lot! I'm a big fan of your fluff, so that means a lot I've always enjoyed trying to recreate conversations with dialect and slang, the way people actually speak. I'm still working at it, but I'm glad you like the work so far

@The Good Green - Thank you!

@Monkeytroll - Cheers

@Baiyuan - Thanks a lot for the compliment, and the tips as well! I could definitely have slipped in some more foreshadowing, I'll work on it on the next one. The back story of Riff and Coop actually relates to the main campaign plot a little (not the current bit, some things I haven't revealed yet!), so hopefully I can drama it up a bit with Rigg's intro to them. Thanks again!

@Sageheart - Thank you so much I'll work on making the dialogue a little clearer for next time.

@samwellfrm - Thanks! And no need for shame, there's a ton of fluff out there on Dakka, I'm surprised anyone bothers reading mine at all

New update for today's a little lame, but here you go:

Some shots of Riff Raff's base, now that it's all settled down a little. The lighting is incredibly hard to get right, as it's either pitch black or reflecting. Still, hopefully you can see enough to get an idea.

And finally, here's, as requested a crappy WIP shot of the complete team. What, you wanted a good picture? Pssh, I'm saving that for the finished article! Feel free to click and zoom etc., it's a pretty big photo.

Aw, thanks guys, I really appreciate the continued interest! Sorry for the mini lag - I had exams then a big project deadline at uni, and this latest guy has been a nightmare, which has been kinda demotivational.

Seriously. Cocked up his face at a late stage 3 or 4 times, dropped him and ruined a ton of GS work, not happy in general with the paintjob, couln't even get a good frigging photo. One of my first GS jobs, so the sculpting himself isn't great either. Here he is, anyway. Not finished, but I really don't want to look at him anymore.

Looking forward to my next guy, anyway As always, any input appreciated, and I can imagine there are a fair few potential improvements for this guy...

Aw, thanks Mohaniker! I think I'll probably be happy to work on him again in a day or two - was having a bit of a frustrating time with some uni work (project deadlines and all that...), and my usually relaxing modelling seemed to be going wrong at every possible moment. When I messed up a little on the final layer of camo on his cloak I almost stamped on him...

One more Jackal to paint up before I've completed their roster to date. I'm sure some will die / need some injury modelling, and you can never have too many gangers, but a new gang might reach the fore for a little while

I'd still love any comments anyone might have on Murdock, but hopefully I can get Blind finished up today or tomorrow.

As usual Scarper: coherent, convincing, creative. I like him. The paintjob is decent, not the best in town, but then again whose paintjobs are...

One part I would suggest to improve (when you're back on track) is the camo on his arms, looks a bit crude to me. His face turned out really convincing, I'm confident you could improve the camo, if you found it worth the while.

About "ENRAGE"-miniatures: You might remember me talking about that plasmapistol ganger on my blog, that I first dropped and later lost parts of. Well he has been in my cabinet untouched for weeks, mocking me with his 90% finished status.

In the end it's down to two possible solutions: a) Finish him! b) Melt him!
The later I'd consider extreme and extremely unproductive (yet maybe also extremely satisfying). Do it like me, forget him for a while and when he floats up to the surface of your mind again, finish him off quick (which I, smartass, still need to do to be honest).

@neil101 - Thanks a lot, that's really kind to say. I know he's not terrible at the moment, it's just that I know in my head all the bits that could have gone better. It's pretty stupid, and I'm sure I'll get over it in a little while I'm in 4th year doing medicine at the mo, and just starting the busiest section of the year, so hobby time's taken a bit of a hit. Trying to keep it up when I can though!

@Baiyuan - Thanks so much for the honest commentary, I really appreciate it. I'll work on the camo on his arms when I return to him - it was never really finished, but I figured I'd come back to it when I was in a better mood Thanks especially for the compliments on the face as well, it took a lot of attempts. I will definitely return to him, just need to give it a day or two.

Today's update is rather a non-update I'm afraid. I'm heading home for a funeral in a few days, and haven't had anything like the time I'd like to paint or model, so I thought I'd throw out all the character ideas I've been having, to give a bit of a flavour for the gang. I don't anticipate being able to do much painting or modelling over the next week or so either, so I'll write up the rest of these instead when I get spare moments. I'm also going to write up some short blurbs for the other factions in the campaign - a scavvy gang, a mysterious inquisitor and her retinue, and the much alluded to QA. These have all been proxies up til now, so it'll be a glimpse into future models as well! Apologies that there's not much new here, but I though someone might be interested, and I'm trying to keep my mind occupied

Murdock

Leader of this Jackal cell. Claims to have been a sergeant in the PDF, but carries equipment that should never have fallen into his hands. Has spent many years on the scavenger teams, training new recruits in the Remnants. He tells people that it’s because he upset a high ranking officer, but others have suggested that he hates the compound, is fighting to his death to reunite with a family killed in the rebellion, or simply that he enjoys the work. All such suggestions result in scorn, and hard labour. Brusque and unfriendly, but will go out of his way to protect those under him. Trinkets and gifts have also been found in people's packs after visiting a trading post, though Murdock denies any knowledge of this.

Farrell

Medic and plasma gunner. Found in the wastes a mile outside of Rukob, bleeding badly from embedded buckshot and a (clumsily stitched) stab wound to the stomach. He was carrying an infant girl, unharmed, but with a strange symmetrical birthmark on her back. Both were carried back to Pinepoint, an (ironically named) Remnant settlement. His wounds were infected, and the fever almost killed him as he raved about mutants and monsters. As he recovered, he first asked about the girl, then about others who may have come after him, names like Eli and Clara. The medical staff became concerned that he may have a bounty on his head. Many of the Remnants don’t trust him, and from his strange arrival to his refusal to explain where he came from, he hasn’t helped himself. The plasma weapon he carries is also a rare find, unusual to see outside the slaver camps to the North. Leaving the girl in the safety of the camp, he joined a Jackal team to pay back the kindness he was given, believing that his skill with medicae and especially work with bionics (again, an unusual skill in the underhive) would be invaluable. He regularly writes in a small book, which Twitch stole to show to the others, believing that he was a spy. Whilst he did write of what he was doing, the book was filled with letters to a woman, none of which it appeared had actually been sent. Murdock spoke to him about it, but saw no reason for concern. He is friendly and jovial when spoken to, but a little quiet, with a tendency to stare into space and tune out of conversations.

Skragg

Gunner and inventor. Apparently mute, but able to build technology from scrap, Murdock considers Skragg an idiot savant. Many of the others in the team think his silence is not a result of lack of intelligence. Further story incoming, but I don’t want to spoil the bit I already wrote for him!

Crow

Before finding the Remnants, Crow scavenged the rocky and mountainous wastes outside the hive with her brother. After serving as a construction worker in the compound, Crow volunteered to join a Jackal team to rediscover the adventure and excitement of living rough. She may or may not regret her decision. Agile and sure-footed, Crow tends to stay high above the ground, shooting from vantage points wherever possible. She is good humoured and friendly, though with rather a dark sense of humour. She rarely takes off her rebreather, citing the case of her brother, who left their camp and shot himself after he realised that his laboured breathing was slowing him down. She is still angry with him for taking the decision without her.

Ferret

Joined the Remnants after being caught attempting to steal food from the Pinepoint stores with her teenage son. Both agreed to serve in Jackal teams and eventually join defensive patrols if it meant access to the compound. Ferret is very fast, and a good shot, but has been injured several times whilst in the 21st Jackals. Keen to return to base, Ferret rarely socialises, but will scavenge during her own time, hoping to find some archeotech valuable enough to merit transport back to Pinepoint.

Riggs

[

Friendly and affable, Riggs was born inside the Remnant compound. Initially charged with sump-farming and looking after the animals, he joined a Jackal team as soon as he could, and acts as a friendly second-in-command to Murdock. Despite his friendly demeanour, Riggs has a natural gift for negotiation and persuasion, and often accompanies Murdock to trading posts or to form treaties with rival groups. He tends to know a lot of residents in the settlements they regularly visit, and takes care of the dogs, Loki and Cass.

There's more to come, but that's all for today. Please let me know if anyone sound to cheesy or cliched, or if you like anyone!

p.s. also, so this isn't a total non-update, heres a minor repose I did on one of the studio McVey line. I wanted him to use his gun as little as possible, so I took it out of his hand, and put it on his hip. The pose is supposed to be a "Stay there, I'll be back" kind of thing as he runs to deal with a different wounded. Hope you like!

Hey nice update.

I like the background of the gang and I'm looking forward to hear about the others......oooooo scavvies

Murdoch looks good....though he doesn't scream leader to me, maybe when he gets his base. The arm camo needs a little work but I really like the cloak.

but carries equipment that should never have fallen into his hands.
what would that be?

The Mcvey model looks spot on for a friendly hold it their pose.

Can't exactly tell from the pic, but the new hand on the mcvey looks ok to me, just ok. The angle and size of the hand aren't perfect as far as I can tell from the pic. Just nitpicking though...

Really quick update, as I totally don't have time for this, but here's some progress:

Base for Crow:

Blind (originally called Jackdaw - will explain in future!):

Group shot:

THINGS TO DO:
- Fix Murdock's arm camo
- Build lightbox
- Take decent pictures of FINISHED GANG

I'll respond to all your existing comments as soon as I get a chance, probably tomorrow. Thanks so much, and I promise I will get round to them!

Speedily,

I have 5 minutes! Time to reply to all you lovely people

@PDH - Thank you! And the scavvy part of the plot was very much inspired by your work and Jackanory's, so I hope you like them when I finally get round to it. The equipment Murdock's carrying is nothing too exotic, but nothing a PDF sarge should have got hold of - he has a (pip-boy style!) wrist mounted tactical device, a bolt pistol, a few special shells, and a slightly fancier shotgun than anyone else. Just some character, really

@samwellfrm - Ace, I'm glad you're excited! I will try to get all the fluff uploaded in a oner once the gang is totally finished - shouldn't be too long now. Hope I haven't built it up too much though... :*/

@Scrazza - Thanks! I really appreciate that!

@neil101 - Cheers, that's very kind

@Baiyuan - You're right, as always. The scale is a little (just a little though!) off, but it's the smallest I could find, and I'm not up to sculpting a hand from scratch just yet. Not perfect, but it'll have to do for now. It'll be a while before I get round to painting him anyway, so maybe I can do better by then! Don't have time to comment properly at the moment, but I love what you're doing on your thread at the mo - will give you some feedback when I'm off the night shifts!

@Captain Roderick - Hahaha, no problem, I appreciate that you're checking back! Thanks for the kind words

No time to work on anything tonight, but I'm sketching some ideas for the newbies whenever I get a chance. As always, I'd love any opinions you might have, good or bad.

Great work mate! They look really good as a team. The paintjob is decent and it's dirtyness suits the flavor of the gang very well.

Two suggestions:
1. Get some "rusty" pigments (for example from vallejo, but any brand will do) and give some of the metal parts a little wash. Very easy technique, that will make your guys look even better. A good example is Crow's base, gimme rust!
2. Which leads to my second suggestion, I like Crows base and with rust it will look even better, but I'd also suggest you do some damage to that metal sheet she is standing on. It looks too neat, like straight from the D.I.Y. store. Chip of the edges, drill some holes, bend a corner and so on. I bet she looks much better after a rough treatment...don't they all do...

Anyway, great stuff! Keep 'em coming. Do you have any idea regarding what your next project might be?

Oh, and never mind my blog, no hurry. Looking forward to your comments, but I'm a patient person...sometimes.

Looks like I missed a couple of updates. So cool that you've got the whole gang together now, they look really nice and unified, while still all having so much individual character. And so much fluff! The creative juices have clearly been flowing in abundance!
What I like most about your gang is how they could easily fit in in the near future or way over in the 40k universe.

Looking good man, I really like the weathering on Blinds chest armour. I agree with Baiyuan, I'd mess up Crows base a little, but the angle really works well with the model.

Of all the things I could notice in that group shot....Coop's jeans look fantastic.

I'm looking forward to seeing the good group pictures but I think your next project for these guys should be a display base. Though that would be a challenge with all the various base styles.

Hey all! Really quick update again I'm afraid. I'll get to all your comments later tonight or tomorrow, but I do really really appreciate them!

Just a WIP update to show I'm still alive - work is still a little crazy, so only been sculpting when I can. I've not managed to finish my light box yet, so fluff and new pics of the Jackals will come later. First up, some teaser shots of a new opposing gang! I'll get into their proper fluff later, but for now, they're ex-convicts, so expect lots of improvised armour, jumpsuits and the like. I'm NOT going with day-glo orange, so don't worry!

First up: Very (very!) early WIP of my planned gang leader, The Warden. It's intentionally a little dark and blurry, mainly cause my GS work at this point is pretty awful, and I'm taking a leaf from Baiyuan's book and leaving you wanting more He'll have a trenchcoat with epaulets and a cigar before too long. As you may have guessed from the shredded jumpsuit you can currently see that will later be mostly covered by his finery, the title of 'warden' may not have always belonged to him!

I've also got a WIP scavenging juve, utilising a model I've been searching for a use for for aaaages.

Both are far from finished, but hopefully it'll give you an idea of the direction I'm heading in. Like anything? Hate anything? Just have a few ideas? I would genuinely love to hear. Thanks for all your input so far, Dakka!

Applying my magic eh? It works, they look very promising and I want more. Used my own weapons against me...pffff.
More detailed analysis: The first one still has a long way to go, so there is hardly more to say than "huge potential", although the idea of "the warden is dead! long live the warden!" already convinced me that the result will be awesome.
The second one, oh my, so simple yet so cool! And using such a rarely seen model is ingenious!
Lot's of exclamation marks... sorry.

Thanks so much for all the replies everyone! I've got a few minutes before I need to start on dinner, so time to get back to you all.

For the previous post!
@Scrazza - Thank you! The burn scars were a lot of trial and error and stippling with different colours, but I have discovered that I love Vallejo's 'Smoke' ink. It's amazing for any kind of dirt, weathering, or general blotchiness

@Baiyuan - Thanks a lot! I'm really glad you like the way they look together. Thanks for the weathering tips too - I've got a couple of weathering powders from FW, but I don't think I'm using them enough. I'll try to bash her base around a little bit before I take the final pictures, and see what I can do!

@Jackanory - Thank you so much for the kind words, I really really appreciate them. I do love the 40k timeline, but I reckon all the skulls and gothica get a little wearing. I'm really glad you reckon the Jackals fit both!

@Mohaniker - Thanks man! The weathering was a little bit hit and miss - I did some sponge weathering, then tidied it up a bit. I'll try something similar with Crow I've not got any proper terrain at the mo (well, not painted anyway), but I might try and take them along next time I head down to GW - see if they've got anything I could steal a use of!
I'm on Obs and Gynae, so it's been a fair few shifts on the labour ward. Really exciting stuff, and it's great getting to know people while you're sitting in with them, but it's knackering too - feels like I could use a holiday! I'm far more into the medical side than surgical, so anything outside the OR wins every time Do you guys get to do an elective? Hope you're getting time to paint!

@PDH - Thanks so much! They're designer I really like the idea of a display base, actually. I'll bear it in mind, though my flat's a little small for any kind of terrain at the mo :( Have you managed to paint up your Magos yet? I'm really looking forward to seeing you take on all that red!

New post: (Thanks so much to all you regular posters, btw, your ideas and criticisms really keep me going)
@Scrazza - Thank you He's been sitting in my cupboard all unused for ages making me feel guilty, so I'm glad I've found a purpose for him!

@Monkeytroll - Thanks! I'm looking forward to finishing him actually, I've got a really strong picture in my mind for what he should look like. And it's obviously going to be in black and white stripes

@Mohaniker - Thanks a lot, I really appreciate the compliments I'm still fleshing through their backstory in my mind. At the moment, they're looking a little darker than the Jackals, but not the 'I-want-to-eat-a-baby-cause-i'm-evil' type of dark that seems to come up a lot There will probably be a little more Jackal backstory before anything for these guys turns up though...

@Baiyuan - I learned from the master - though I should really have made it impossible to zoom in for full effect Thank you so much for the kind words (again!), and I hope The Warden can live up to your expectations! At the moment I'm thinking a few bullet holes in the back of his coat - I doubt it's passed on willingly

Just waiting for some more GS to cure, so maybe more updates today or tomorrow. Thanks so much again eveyrone!

If he's buying designer jeans he is getting paid too much! Shame about the lack of space for display board....but i know how you feel. I'm lucky having limited space under the bed in the spare room.

Hmmmmm this week I've been painting red... and white checkers on that nobs power claw. The Magos currently has a red cloak and grey armour plates. Tonight I am going to paint a weapon on a scavvy, while watching The Sweeny. Tomorrow I shall paint some more of the magos.... I promise to paint both his arms at least (no its not an April fool). I am loving your thread at the moment, by the way, even if I haven't had much time to comment. You have so many ideas, and seem to work on them so rapidly, it's making me a little jealous. @monkeytroll - Nice spot! It has since been obliterated.

Bit of a bigger update now. Aside from a little clean up on his neck and general smoothing, I think the sculpt is probably finished now. As such, I would love any criticisms anyone has before I prime. Nitpick away, be mean, anything counts and would be appreciated

Front shot:

Side, showing the torn off sleeve and some rips and tears:

Rear, with a few hints as to how the previous owner lost his hat and jacket :

And here's the weapon he'll be using - would anyone object to this being a counts-as bolter?:

And finally, here's an idea of the colour scheme the gang will get, with the lighter blue in the top left as the main (jumpsuit) colour:

Thanks so much neil_101 for posting that program - it's amazing!

Please let me know what you think! I'd also love any tips on basing him, as I'm having a bit of an inspiration fail. He should be on top of something looking down, but I'll need to have a think as to what. The new models are cool but don't have the dead/dying/beaten body on the base. I think either junk or a low wall would fit better with the band.

I'll have to make it short, I'm in a hurry:
  • Still love him!

  • Bolter looks decent, but where is the ammo coming from? Add a magazine or some kind of feed.

  • A side feed like most modern day shotguns have it would be cool. I like the idea of loading each shot by hand. Would really seperate it from your every day astartes bolter and it's just the right thing to stop your occasional escaping prisoner.

  • Another thing that could work is an ammo feed in the stock, like some wild west rifles had it.

  • To be as nitpicky as demanded, the lower left area on the back of "his" jacket and the back of his right leg look kinda rough. Might work perfectly once painted, but just seeing it as a green I'd recommend some smoothening. Might be just me...

  • Also I as usual have to agree with PDH: A holster couldn't do any harm and you need to put something credible under his foot, I'd suggest a barrel or keg that has some cards on it. Can you paint a straight flush?

  • About additional equipment of course you could always add more typical prison guard stuff, a night stick, taser, pepper spray etc. But I think one could easily overdo that so, you might want to ignore that suggestion.

  • Oh that reminds me of one thing he DEFINITELY needs: Keys! No one would kill a warden and not steal his keys. There are some nice ones in the flagellant box...

  • Hope my suggestions were productive and I could help.

Basically agree with all of this!

I really like that alt bolter as well.

@Baiyuan - Those are some really great suggestions, thank you! I'm a big fan of the idea of the manual loading side feed, and I think it feels 'traditional', which fits the idea of a weapon as a symbol of office too. I've scattered a couple of shell cases on his base, and am working on carving a slot as soon as I'm done posting
The key idea is an ace one too - I had a look at the flaggelant ones, but they seem pretty massive. I might have a go at sculpting a ring with a few keys on the empty space on his arse.
I've had a bash at cleaning up the areas you mentioned, and hopefully they're a little less ratty now. I also like the holster plan (thanks to PDH too!) - I'll have to see if I can find one that doesn't take up his entire thigh.
Thanks so much for all the suggestions - I really like them!

@Neil101 - Thank you! And that would totally fit his look, wouldn't it? I like the image of him carrying a big case around with him, just so he can stand on it and look dramatic!

@Jackanory - It is good advice! Thanks for your kind words

Minor update: A base solution I think I'm happy with! I'm picturing it as the top of a prison wall.

Finally, cause I feel bad for deleting a picture and stranding PDH's comment, I had previously put up a cheesy picture of him standing over someone covered by rubble. It was terrible. Hope you like the new one!

    Your always welcome mate!

I agree with everybody else, the base is cool. And it made me stop wondering where you wanted to put his gun, great idea.

About the holster, I would recommend one from the cadians (only have a HQ box but they should be the same), they are not that big. For a size comparison look at my Radius again, he has that one. If it needs to be even smaller, FW elysian equip, there are tiny ones.
Another idea would be to not give him a holster at all and just shove a pistol into his pants (on his backside I'd say) , gangster style. I mean he is not really a warden, is he, so he might feel more comfortable when he carries his gun like he is used to. That would also solve the holster problem, because you would just need a pistol grip of some kind.
About the keys, prison keys are normally pretty massive I think, they mostly don't use your ordinary door key, so I wouldn't hesitate to give him some really big ones.

PS: Is there a hole in his boot with his toes showing through? If so, I officially announce that my favorite detail of him!

Apologies again for the delay everyone! Work has been a little all-encompassing lately, same old same old.

@jackanory - hahaha, thank you! I can totally see that too - he looks like the kind to take his time...

@monkeytroll - Thanks so much! That was exactly what I was going for, so I'm really happy you think so

@neil101 - Thank you very much! I'm glad you like him!

@Baiyuan - Thanks for the kind words, and the ideas. I'll have to try out the FW holster, though I do like the 'down the back of the pants' idea. I'll see if I can make it work! I've bashed together some keys from GS and plasticard, though I'll have to wait to get some pictures up to see if you approve!

Today's update is some painting. It's not fantastic and it's nothing particularly exciting, but I was dying to get something painted after (hopefully!) coming out of the other side of a busy spell at uni. He was speedily done, but as a tester, I'm pretty happy. Experimented with some oil stains and different kinds of rust.

Fluff isn't sorted completely yet, but at least some section of penal jumpsuit will be a requirement for all gangers (though I'm cheating and saying trousers can count!), and they'll be various shades of deep blue and green. The gang will be made up from various strata of society, and they won't all be vicious murderers or the like. The Warden is not going to be as malicious as he looks, either, though they won't be squeaky clean, of course The plan is for the group to have interacted differently with surrounding groups over time, depending on the current Warden. Each ganger will end up with a mini story, same as with the Jackals (and I know I still owe you some fluff for them too!). More to come as I sort it out. For now though, I can give a name: the Quadring Accord. Hope you like!

As always, all comments are appreciated, good or bad. Thank you for all your support so far!

    Thanks PDH!

I'm having a lot of trouble with the colour scheme for the Warden. He has a slightly greener jumpsuit colour than the previous ganger, but I'm really struggling to find a jacket colour that works. The way I've sculpted it, it doesn't look like a formal dress jacket, so reds and purples tend to look out of place. I can't get a leather look that fits the 'heirloom' vibe I want it to have though. I'm also thinking that this general scheme might be too gloomy - does anyone know much about colour theory? I'm trying to get a bright, accent colour that won't clash with the rest! I don't think I'm getting this across very well. Ah well, hopefully some progress soon...

I like the visor as well. It's cool to see one with a more natural glass colour instead of red or green or whatever.
With regards to the warden's jacket, I'm not so sure a bright colour would work. Over such a big area bright colours tend to overpower. I think that with blues, browns work well. I'm not sure what real prison wardens wear (thankfully) but it might be worth looking into that...

Thanks Jackanory, I'm really glad you like the visor! I was actually thinking of a brighter colour as an accent, rather than for the whole jacket. I went with a dark blue in the end, so thank you for the tip!

It's been a while since I got anything done - LOTS going on at the mo, it's really hard to get any hobby time. Here's an update on the warden, anyway. I'd love any criticism you might have: I'm working on the base at the mo, and I've still got time to change things that don't work. I'm worried he's just a little boring as is.

Glad to see news on the warden.
The keys turned out even better than I expected, when suggesting them.
    The paintjob is solid.
    His clothes look really good.
His eyes are too cartoony. I know painting eyes isn't easy, but I'm sure you can do better. (Some tips: Don't use pure white for eyes, use a very bright skin tone or a very off-white. The eyes should have a rather strong outline, try some diluted black wash. His pupils are quite big, but you could leave it like that.)
    Some other suggestions:
I'd give the bandages another layer of wash, they are a bit to clean and bright.
His skin is a bit to tanned for my taste, but that of course could also be dirt. Maybe have more shadows here too, one more layer of wash.
He would look even cooler with some stubble. I'd try to give him some.

Don't get me wrong mate, I love him! I just think it's better to get constructive critique than compliments. And a mixture of both is best.

@The Good Green - Thank you so much, I'm glad you approve! I've never actually seen that movie, but having googled it, you're dead on! Right down to the slanty hat and everything

@monkeytroll - Thank you! That's reassuring to hear - I'm used to painting models that are overloaded with detail, so it just felt weird to have so much 'blank space'. I think I'm happy with him now though!

@Jackanory - Thanks! I made the keys myself (at Baiyuan's excellent suggestion), they're tiny slivers plasticard and green stuff

@Baiyuan - Not at all, I don't think I can overemphasise how useful your critiques are! Thanks for the kind words, and I've tried to fix a couple of things too. I've sorted his eyes a bit - they're not perfect now, but I'm a lot happier than I was with the huge ones. I've darkened his stubble and added a bit more wash and dirt to his bandages too, so I hope you like, and thanks so much for the tips.

@neil101 - Thank you! They were fiddly as hell, so I'm glad they look ok

@Scrazza - Cheers! That's really nice to say

I might consider the Warden finished now, though I haven't hit him with a spray yet, so I can still change things up. As always, please let me know what you think!

Same here: He looks good. Some more highlighting for his jumpsuit would do him good. Eyes are much better now. The base looks cool, weathering is solid. So there was stubble beforehand, I wasn't sure, it's better now. His fingers really need a shadow, looks mutated.
    Overall: Awesome job Scarp.

As you know I'm firmly in the camp of anti smoker but he would look wrong without a cigar. I'm not sure how but I think the cigar needs to stand out more...I nearly missed it.

Was it intentional or is it just a happy coincidence that he looks a bit like Clint Eastwood?

Hmm. I feel he's missing something. Is there any chance you could sculpt a plaster across his nose or somesuch, as if he's recently broken it? I think it'd add extra to his character.

I also think the bullet holes need to be more pronounced, possible burn marks?

@Scrazza - Thanks so much! Really appreciate you input from earlier - you guys always manage to catch little things I'm blind too after staring at the model for so long

@PDH - I really, really wish I could say I was skilled enough to make the face look like someone in particular, but it is in fact coincidental. Though I watched Unforgiven again the other day, and I do love pretty much all of his Westerns (Paint your wagon excepted ), so maybe subconsciously, I did! Thanks for the kind words, too - maybe I should try a lighter colour for the cigar?
And damn, Godywn-Diaz was totally my first choice for bolter names - how did someone get to it first? Though I think Warden-Eastwood Pattern has quite a nice ring to it too...

@ghosty - Thanks for the input! I really like the idea of the broken nose (and I think it would fit his character really well too!) but I'm a little loathe to do any more GS work on his face after I spent so long painting it. I'll see what I can do about the scorch marks though - nice idea!

As for the fluff update promised today, yeah. I haven't had the time. Sorry! As penance, here's my current WIP head (very early WIP), and a very quick photoshop of his future pose. The colours are probably subject to change though

    @Commander Cain - Thank you!

@neil101 - Thanks a lot! Fallout is quite a big influence on my theme (along with Mad Max, the Road, Borderlands, and a ton of other cheesy post-apoc stuff ), but I didn't realise quite how much I'd ripped off the colours! Hopefully I can spread out into a wider range of blues and greens...
Also - what happened to you thread? I was thinking about bumping it the other day, but I didn't want to get yelled at for necro I was really liking what you were up to!

@The Good Green - He does, a little bit! Not quite so well-heeled though

@nerdforest - Thank you so much! That's really kind to say, and I'm really glad you like what I'm doing. Hopefully I can keep it going!

@PDH - hahaha, hopefully it'll make a little more sense further down. The model I was planning on using is from the archer kit, and had this medievally kind of neckerchief thing going on. Normally I'd carve it off and sculpt in the jacket details, but as he's going to be the sidecar gunner in a wasteland vehicle, I though maybe he could pull off a poncho-type thing. I was sadly very much mistaken, and I've since tried to turn it into a bandana.
I think a week might have been a little optimistic - hopefully next weekend?

@Baiyuan - That is an excellent idea, thank you again. I'm going to do that as soon as I've posted!

@monkeytroll - I could just use the head, right? And some kind of mechanical walker type device with some big machine guns on it? I may have read too much of your stuff
I'm glad you like the helmet - thanks for the kind words!

Now, exams exams deadlines project work exams - I'm starting to sound like a broken record. Not much progress this week, but here's an idea of how this ganger's evolving. The R hand is the first one I've ever sculpted from scratch (3 fingers and counting! ), and the L will have an oil can once it's done. Hope you like, and sorry it's a bit lame! (again)

fine new unique miniature there - the shotgun pose is great - bike is always a good idea for the post apocalypse. Can I be cheaky and request a group shot of the survivors

@lilloser- Thank you so much! I'm glad you like what l'm doing

@neil101- Thanks man, I really appreciate that The links are amazing, though you're one hell of a temptress - I haven't seen most of those before, and I'm trying to cut back on my spending. Curses!

@PDH - Hey, one is an important part of the other. Just like working on new models requires messing around on Dakka Thank you so much for the kind words - I really do appreciate it. At the mo I'm actually thinking of doing a little diorama with all the QA models once they're done - A few of the juves scavenging parts from a wrecked vehicle that the group have come across while the others defend the vehicles they have. At the moment I'm thinking a truck, a buggy-type thing and maybe a few bikes if I can find them i the right scale, perhaps in a (very) small settlement. It's pretty ambitious, and with all the stuff I'm working on at the mo I doubt I'll ever get round to it, but I like having a pipe dream on the go. And it was mainly inspired by your suggestion to do a similar display board for the Jackals, so I've got you to blame if it slows me down!

@weetyskemian - Thank you! I'm working on a lightbox at the mo, but I'll be sure to post a group shot of everyone I've got so far once it's finished

@monkeytroll - Hahaha, thanks a lot. I'll just have to watch more TV

Today's update is a WIP of my reworking of Murdock, the Jackal leader. I don't like the current model, and it was annoying me in games, so I thought I'd throw together a replacement! He's obviously still WIP, but the idea is to have him leaning around a corner on uneven ground, at roughly the angle he is in the pictures. More a concept than a model at the mo, but hope you like

I really need to make a few comments on most of you lot's blogs - have been swamped lately, and I've been lurking for too long! Hopefully some time tomorrow, when I need a break from revision. Thanks for all your input!

That is cool. I've seen someone else use the Death Korps grenade launcher as a shotgun and it looks ace. What is the base model?

I'm looking for suggestions or improvements but cannot find anything....besides its still WIP.

This version of murdoch looks much more herioc.

    Fixed.

Is that a PP warcaster you're using as the base? Concept's sound, should look very cool once based.

Good one, only a genius can make a model peek around a corner, you know what I mean.
I'm also interested in what the base model is.

I like the new model, it looks great.

Thanks guys! The base model is Captain Jonas Murdoch (I only just realised he has the same name - spooky!), from Privateer Press. This guy:
    NOT MY WORK

    NOT MY WORK
I got the inspiration from Neil101's 'Ulsheki' model, though - an awesome conversion with a bullwhip!

@PDH - Thank you! That's pretty much exactly what I was going for. I think he has more of a 'leader' feel as well, which I'm pretty happy about

@Monkeytroll - Thank you! And ok, yes, you caught me But I'm off to the library as soon as I'm done posting here, so at leasy my intention is there, right?

@Baiyuan - Some with more impressive results than others, too Adalhard is one hell of a model to live up to!

@WillFrost - Thank you! I'm currently working on putting a lightbox together, and I should get some group shots after that. I'll finish it as soon as I can!

    Thanks for the interest, guys!

Really strange, looking for my inquisitor-to-be I went through all PPminiatures and I liked this one but discarded it because of the stupid arm positions. I didn't see the potential in it, which you obviously did and successfully brought out into the light, good work. In this regard I think your alteration works just as good as Adalhards, you took a silly pose and made it a natural one with minimal changes.

Also now that you're using him I'm starting to realize, that the model doesn't look as fancy (like in too posh for a ganger) as I thought in the first place, must be the default paintjob. I can really picture him painted in your grimy color scheme, it will look great, worthy of a leader.

The only detail I would personally change is the metal lip on his tabbard, it's unfunctional and I would sand/cut it of and the cloth a ragged look in GS.

Btw what did you do with his right arm? You were intending to give it to me right?... That pistol is so sweet I could put it to good use.

Nice model choice although i still prefer the bolter and bullwhip combination The dkok arms are a perfect choice , and the mask is really great. You are pretty great at green stuffing now with all that practice
I shall be watching how you paint him up to get a heads up on Ulsheki. Are you planning on doing browns , or something a bit brighter?

@Baiyuan - Thank you for the kind words! Funny you should mention the metal lip: I actually carved that off in a raggedy way shortly after posting the pictures! I was in two minds about getting him too - I love the model but I'm not sure what they were going for with the pose. The arms were not easy to remove either, what with the thickness of those ridiculous shoulder pads: I made a bit of a mess of his shoulders and nose, but luckily I'd been planning for the scarf mask anyway
As to the pistol: Hmmm... Have you got a particular use in mind? I was planning on saving it for a role in my conceptual scavvy gang, but I might not mind donating for one of your artworks if you had any plans

@neil101 - Eh, me too, but I couldn't rip yours off completely Thanks for the compliment! I think I'm getting better at cloth, but still a long way to go. He's going to be leading the Jackals, so there will likely be a lot of khaki, brown, cream and red, but I don't have a proper scheme in mind yet. I'll have to make a mock up when I can!

    Automatically Appended Next Post:
ALSO: Bonus mini update on the Jackals! I figured that while Murdock was getting his makeover, I might as well make a few changes due to injuries, new gear etc.

    - Farrell got captured by the wrong people and won't be making any more appearances :(
    - Crow got her hands on a needle rifle, which should be fun to play around with. (Her base will also be getting that weathering we talked about when I paint the new weapon!)
    - Skragg got a haircut!
    - Twitch caught one too many hand wounds and will be waiting for some mechanical parts to come up at the trader
    - And Riggs already found some!

Proper update in a few days, I'm sure

Hehehe, thanks guys. Just a minor one today: I made the updates I was talking about. Colour balance in the pic isn't the best, but the gang are all correctly represented now (though technically I haven't actually acquired Twitch's bionics yet ). Hope you like!

That's also going to be my last update for the next two weeks - I really need to get into exam mode. I'm buying a new set of brushes as a reward once I'm done though - all bar 2 of mine are knackered See you on the other side!

3 days of hiatus. I'm proud of myself! Here's a potential scheme for Murdock:

No interesting news though, I'm studying!
