These play off the fact that Dwarves are mountain folk and most ranged units will want the high ground in battle:
Mountaineers
Mountain Rangers
Highlanders
Dwarve Guerrillas
Mountain Guerrillas
Mountain Scouts
Since these Dwarves are armed with ranged weapons they will likely be the first soldiers to attack the enemy/draw first blood (forgoing artillery anyway):
Dwarve Openers
The First Blow
The Opening Blow
Just a few random ones:
Dwarvish Short-beards (no Dwarve worth his beard would carry a ranged weapon into battle over an axe or hammer, unless they are younglings getting their first taste of battle)
Younglings (similar to the previous)
Dwarvish Rearguard (Ranged units usually serve as scouts or as part of the rear line behind the front line melee units providing supporting fire)
Dwarvish Militia (this one is a long shot because most Dwarves will be well versed in the ways of battle and as such the Dwarves do not technically have a militia that will be quickly equipped in times of conflict)
The King Guard
The Hold Guard (Most Dwarvish kingdoms/settlements are called holds)
The Headtakers (the preferred placement of a ranged weapon shot is usually the head)
I hope none are reposts

Along the same lines since I like the way it would match up with the original infantry unit:

I humbly submit the following:
Squints, Squinteyes, Squintsights, Shrewdsights, Shrewdeyes - They squint to limit field of view when aiming and on occasion do so during social interactions to check other speakers' intent, thus giving them the nickname
Cross-eyes - Play on words, Cross as in angry/grumpy and as in crossbow

Well, everyone's gone for bolt and gunpowder themes .
I was thinking more along the lines of what they represent, not what they do.
IE- "The Ironclads" doesn't indicate how the regiment will function (sticking axes into faces etc). Dwarf's in a stereotypical sense are masters of engineering, and it may be safe to assume that most of the dwarf's made their own equipment. And rifle construction isn't too easy .
So on that basis...
-Rifle Smith's
-Artificers
-Craft lords
Having said that, on those names, you don't immediately envision gun toting dwarf's . And it doesn't give credence to crossbow use either...
- Steel wind
- Iron reapers
- Steel walls (sounds more defender like)
- True shots
I dunno, I kinda like the reaper one

It needs to be a name appropriate for both weapon types, so maybe 'Stunt Shot[s]' or something but it depends purely on their fluff really. If they meant for capping enemies attempting to attack the gates, something like 'Garrison[s]' or 'Stone Guard' is acceptable. But if they are foresters and hunters, a name like 'Pathfinder[s]' or 'Dwarfish Ranger[s]' more appropriate.

Dwarven Brightbullets-
A crackle of fire and the entire field exploded in sheets of flame. The orcs cried in fear as their line suddenly had holes where warriors once stood, felled as if in shock to the great long sticks that blew fire and smoke.
Grugurk, warlord of this band of orcs charged foward, attempting to close the distance between him army and his eternal enemies. The survivors closed ranks behind him and started hollering, clanging their swords and shields as they surged foward.
Grugurk noticed the dwarves had dropped their flame sticks. He smiled as they started turning and scrambling to find weapons for the melee that was about to commence.
Suddenly, the dwarves turned as one and presented a line of glinting crossbows, each bolt head covered in flame.
"Fire!" bellowed one of the dwarves. Lines of fire streaked out and hit the remaining orcs hard.
Grugurk staggered back as no less than three penetrated through his armor, but failed to fell him. Looking quickly back, his retinue of orcs was all but decimated. Most were on the ground, dead or attempting to put out the fire on their person. The rest were fleeing away in the opposite direction.
The orc warlord turned back, jaundiced eyes seething in hatred as the dwarves were now methodically approaching with axe and sword. Grugurk attempted to raise his own sword in one last defiant stand.
It fell from his grasp.
Puzzled, Grugurk attemped to bellow out in defiance, charging with all his fervor at the dwarves.
He sagged to his knees, his body betraying his intent.
Finally, he noticed his ragged breath. Looking down through dimming vision, he saw red fletching.
A bolt had pierced his throat, and his lifeblood had trickled out down his neck.
Grugurk fell foward and became another victim to the Brightbullets.

May have 'Dwarf', 'Dwarven' or 'Dwarfen' in front of these names.

Dwarven FireDaemons- Masters of the crossbow and rifle, the FireDaemons are known to strike fear into the hearts of humanoid tribes that swelter like the summer heat around the hearth and homes of the dwarves. Using arcane trickery to combust their bolts in flight and alchemical mixtures to expel iron balls of fury, the moniker of these Dwarves was well earned by the superstitious nature of their enemies. Believing these mortal warriors the hellspawn of the underworld, many orcs and goblins scatter before the furious barrage of ammunition that ignite mid air or cause great explosions of smoke and fire. The dwarves get a good chuckle out of such fanciful fears.

The dwarves have always been a race whose love of gunpowder equalled the thingling's love for thier firewood. However, after the catastrophic battle of battle of deeping ridge the dwarves knew something was amiss.
You see, dwarves are a proud people, and don't take lightly to an enemy ripping through thier ranks with superior firepower. So when the pointy eared fiends had slaughtered proud king Balor Itonhelm the dwarven engineers quickly set about finding a way to counter the elven bolt throwers.
To this end, the engineers worked in tandem with the brewers guild and the high clan councils to create a brew that would sharpen the sight and quicken the senses of thier warriors armed with the traditional dwarf ranged weaponry ( thunder-spitter handguns and stoneshot crossbows.)
After months of hard toil, the work was complete, and a cadre of the finest dwarven warriors imbibed the brew before being sent out on a patrol mission with an acommpanying coucil scribe to track the effectivness.
When the patrol group returned, they brought with them the heads of a score elven scouts, and also the report of an elven encampment.
The scribe later reported that the tested warriors had been able to see the magically disguised elven tents while all he saw was a group of fir trees - later that night the elves launched a punitive attack that was turned back by the dwarven hosts who had been warned hours ahead becuase of the brews efffectivness
To this day, the dwarven warriors that go out to battle with ranged weapons in thier hands have drunk of the potent brew and have become known as the ale-eyes, feared by thier foes and lauded by thier comrades.
Edited for spelling on the background.
A fine and enjoyable backstory. Well done, lord marcus.
If the "dwarven ale-eyes" have it, win the contest, the author's backstory should also be used. Though, the spelling might need some polishing.
Ha-ha!
Cheers,
Daniel Moszkowicz.

...I'm willing to go out on a limb - so to speak - and predict that "Thunderguns" is not gonna do it for 'em.
"Thunderguns" implies a world-shaking tempest of sorts, and well... lead projectiles flying through the air after some gunpowder explodes in more of a fizzle of light, doesn't really suggest a kind of thunder occuring.
Gunpowder Marksmen
...would be a slightly better prospect for you, deadmeat85. It's yours, you can claim it as your own, if you wish.

Hi,
Suggested names seem to be endless. I think they should stay away from the separate names for guns and Xbows (far too GW). A couple of suggestions I haven't seen so far:
Longchukkas
Farshootas
or for the non- PC amongst us:
Shortshootas
Keep on suggesting.

Dwarven Hailstormers- The mountains surrounding the dwarven strongholds are bleak, miserable places where the wind whips men off mountain paths and the storms rip the rock off jagged outcroppings. It is near the summits of these mountains where these dwarves train vigorously. They brave the freezing temperatures and blaring sunlight, shooting at targets while running, diving, and fighting. They do so for years, building up both their endurance and accuracy better than any other training would permit them to. Because of this, the Hailstormers are known for their deadly precision and stoic calmness while in the heat of battle. Compared to their training, the rigors of war pale in comparison.

The Nameless
When called upon to fire their leathal volley upon the enemy, the Battlemaster would call out any given number bestowed upon their regiment; an order to let fly.
After being refered to in countless battles by the number of their rank, they were coined "The Nameless".
