I found the jetpack fairly useless in the campaign for anything but movement. Enemies track you way too easily, especially Skirmisher snipers.

I for one am also very happy that you don't face the Flood in this one. I knew from the story line that The Flood woulden't be in the game but once I played it and realised I didn't have to play through a single narrativly pointless mission filled with alien zombies I was very happy

Seriously! Wasn't the flood originally added because they just ran out of time making the first game? Or did that only cause them to play through all the levels backwards, and they'd planned to include the flood, anyway?

Good riddance, what boring levels those made... and if I wanted to play resident evil or whatever, I'd go play it instead...

Very happy with the game! Not very far on the campaign yet, however.

No I think they where actually apart of the original story it just wasen't a good part even the critics said that while the plot twist of the Halo ring itself was a good point for the game it was slightly ruined by the inclusion of The Flood. And even though Bungie tried to make The Flood be "not zombies" we all know that's exactly what they are.

Back to the Banshee problem, I finally did it (about 6 times) but it won't give me the achievment? has this happened to anyone else?

Managed to get a LE two days ago, and I've played to start of mission five so far in campaign.

Loving the game so far. Going to continue tonight, and I do think I'll be reactivating my Gold to play online. I'll probably want to finish the Campaign first mind.

The biggest surprise for me is you could make noble 6 female, always a bonus.

Strangely enough I'm almost to Captain and it was pretty easy thanks to Forge World. I love the option and have made multiple maps already (although I don't have Live to share them). The current map I'm making is a castle, I've only spent about 2k credits and have earned about 8k in return and I'm not even close to done on the map.

SilverMK2 wrote:How are you getting credits in forge? I don't ever seem to get many...

I think it depends on how long you spend working on a map and how much you do on it, when I got the game Forge World was the first thing I played. I spent 5 hours making a map before I even started the Campaign (which it took me longer to make that map then it did to beat the campaign).

Each time I do it though I never really get more then 4k give or take a couple hundred. On the castle I'm doing I did a bit then saved it and exited out, got 4k then went right back in and did some more, saved again exited out n got another 4k. But also each time I did it I made significant additions.

By disconnecting in a certain way, you could reset all your challenges. A lot of people were also using bots to farm with the target locator on Sword Base.

I admit i did the Target locater trick on sword base to work up the commendations a bit but i mean using bots and glitching to level up is kind of silly...
no matter how badly i want that EVA helmet..

Oh and leveling up the grades is far harder than leveling the starting levels of anything, Its like 66k CR to go from Warrant officer G3 to Captain but the first level of Captain gets banged out with i think less than half of that.

Yeah leveling up the 1st 2 grades of a rank seems to go quickly, it's that last grade before your next rank that is a pain and takes forever. Especially when they show you what you'll be able to get next (Like Juns ghillie-esk torso) but then you have to work and work to get it. And if you're like me and don't have xbox live it takes even longer to earn

Hmmm, I'm lost on telling what commendations I'm getting / need to get. It seems like I get a lot more for single player / cooperative? Maybe it's just because I haven't done it hardly at all so there's a lot of single/campaign stuff for me to get . Been mostly doing team swat!

To view your commendations, you have to connect to XBL, then hit Start>Player>Service Record.

I really love thursdays. All Firefight challenges. 7000 CR in just challenges (+ another couple of thousands) in about 30 mins.

Weekly challenges need to be worth more points. Seriously, this weeks challenge is a 1000 kills for 4000 CR, and I managed to get more than double that by playing 3 games of Firefight. And does wargear have to be that expensive, really? xD

Me has been waiting for the new ranks for some time now, damn bungie making an elaborate plan to make us play more! For any Lt. Colonel Grade 3's here that don't already kow, any cR you earn now will go towards your new ranks when they are released, so you might shoot up in level on rank release day.
If anyone wants the list of all ranks you can find it here: http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Rank_(Halo:_Reach)
If you want to know what armor can be unlocked at these new ranks, or any for that matter (scroll down past H3 stuff), you can find them here: http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Armor_Permutations
And last but not least there is a bar on Bungie.net homepage telling us how far we are to unlocking new ranks past Lt. Colonel Grade 3 (When the halo reach community with xbox live hit the total of 117 million completed daily or weekly challenges.).

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Snap I almost forgot, my friend was issued a 2 week ban and his ranks, credits and armor were reset from him continuosly doing the ethernet cable glitch, so I don't reccomend that to anyone. He'd just hit Lt. Colonel aswell and was the first of my 'usual party'. He was bragging about Kat's arm, when he turned it on the next day, recruit!

Just get to a Lt. Colonel, you can see it and buy it for 75k but you have to buy a prerequisit torso first. Personally I don't think it looks good on male spartans. It looks to small, on females it's ok.

The plot had lots of holes in the game. Such as, there were no SPARTAN 3s on Reach. Thats way after reach. (Even though I think Halo 4 will be Onyx, ruining the story plot even more but eh, it would still be cool.) But yeah, I loved the ending. I almost cried.

"Way after Reach" is a period of about six months, after which the war ends. I think you have your timeline backwards. S-3 began over 20 years before the fall of Reach.

remeber that 'Fall of Reach' was written from a 2's perspective, they didn't know about 3s

also

"On December 27, 2531, the first group of Spartan-IIIs, known as Alpha Company, were sent to Onyx to be trained at Camp Currahee."

Post by: Mewiththeface

Oh, I wish I liked PC games more but they are hellova hassle. Software and hardware always will need to be upgraded which can be time consuming and costly. The thing with consoles is the one update you have to do it the occasional system update. So I spent 40 bucks on dawn of war II only to realize I couldn't play it on any computer and a new graphics card would be about 100 bucks+. Also, the xbox does have a usb port which you can plug in any usb keyboard and type with it. However, I believe you meant in game so sorry.

I spent 1000 USD on my computer (not including my monitor) three years ago, and I expect it to be useful for another two years at the current rate of technological advancement in gaming (barring, perhaps, an upgrade to Windows 7 so I can play new games that require it) before having to do any hardware upgrades.

AND my computer has use outside of gaming, as well.

I custom-built mine, and it's built to last whiel not being expensive. Meanwhile my friend with the 360 has had to send her 360 in numerous times.

Well, there is certainly more scope in the Halo universe for new games, settings, characters and technology.

I would be interested to see what future games bring to the series, especially with a new company at the helm.

It just won't be the same, they may be able to pull it off but personally I'm sceptical.

And at the same time I doubt the Halo franchise would become another Call of Duty/ Medal of Honor. Halo will always have its own pedistal slightly above and off to the side from other shooting games.

HEh. I'm very, VERY tempted to sell my PS3 and games to get a 360 at this point. There's very few PS3 games that I want that don't have a PC port that's 100x better.

You had 8 years free to do so?

I watched my wife play it and there seemed to be about 5 minutes of playing, then an hour of cut scenes (rinse and repeat).

Honestly even though I'm a huge fan of X-box and the games that come out for it I HATE how bad it is when it comes to breaking down. I'm on my 4th console because there has either been something wrong with the fan or with the tray gears or the disk scanner. I love it, but hate it at the same time.

The rank cap was removed awhile ago (By that, I mean last week I think). Do you never hook your X-Box? If your xbox is never hooked up to Live, I gotta say, that's a rather big programming bug there Bungie

I know that it was removed. But no I've never done X-box live, and I woulden't put it past the. Most games these days aren't about the game itself it's about the multiplayer so there is alot that can't be done unless you play Live.

Some interesting Halo: Reach stuff + general discussion @ 2010/11/19 19:27:38

Post by: The Dreadnote

My advice is not to take Reach online if you want to keep earning credits offline. There are limits that come into play once you go online that you can't remove. For example, there are only so many credits you can take online; anything over that limit is lost. And there is also a limit to how many credits you can earn offline before going back online. To get around this, I think you would have to make a new account to go online with.

Some interesting Halo: Reach stuff + general discussion @ 2010/11/19 19:32:10

Post by: LordofHats

You could also just find a way to spend all your credits before going online. That's what I did. There's plenty of stuff to burn credits on.

I know that it was removed. But no I've never done X-box live, and I woulden't put it past the.

No no no. I just think that's a rather obvious bug (EDIT: then again maybe it's not a bug). You'd think they'd catch something like that. I never intended to question you. I only use and buy live when I need it myself. I mean, paying all year round for something I probably use maybe two or three months out of the year? I'm not made of money

I really don't see why it would be locked if you'd never gone online. They would just be consigning every player without an internet connection to the bottom ranks.

I figured as much. I just assumed it would be locked in the initial game. Appears that they lock it only after you log onto Live for the first time... Which would explain other things...

Surely if you just select "campaign" at the start?

I played through the first few missions in coop when I first got it without having to go in and out... but when I came to play it on my own afterwards, I had to keep choosing the missions as well, which was quite annoying. I seem to recall I went "main menu" then "campaign" when I played through myself though...

This will sound irrelavant at first but ay well. I dislike Harry Potter, but I was inspired by there is a lot of quidditch maps out there. The thing is, the people who make them can build the arenas well, they just suck at making bomb spawns and plant areas. So yeh I stole an arena and made my own interior, and it works great. If you've no clue what I'm talking about, basically there is an arena with 2 big sticks and hoops, 1 on either side (I know theres meant to be 3 but I find gameplay works better with 1, atleast for 2v2 games anyways.), and the players have unliited jetpacks and low gravity. They have to grab the bomb and fly it through the enemy hoop to score a point. Players are armed with concussion rifles and gravity hammers and the bomb has a 3 second drop-reset period.
Anyways I'm looking for testers if anyones interested to maybe get a large 3v3, 4v4 game going?

Ah good old queer ditch (I'm aware it sounds bad but it's the original name of the "sport" as it was invented at queer ditch marsh), I constantly swear that one of the best sports games for the xbox was Harry Potter Quidditch World Cup. I always played as America or Austrailia.

Sorry back to Reach. I wish I could share my maps via Live as I've got some maps made and maps I'm going to make that I think are pretty cool. I'm currently making a night map lit by orange lights (it works with the combined special effects making it night) in the colliseum that's a POW camp with a litteral jail that the occupant litterally can't get out of untill someone friendly to them sets them free (via shooting a fusion coil atop which rests a jet pack that falls through a one way shield allowing the prisoner to fly up and through the same said shield.

I've made a map completly centered around the Lagoon complete with a river boat, dock with ghosts and a revenant, a lighthouse and bouies. I've also made the Temple of Doom which is a boobie trapped maze. As soon as the level starts the players have to run as they're being chased by a kill ball then they go on to a mine field, a color coded step stone with mines hidden in certain stones, a quicksand section, kill zone jumping level, teleporter avoidance where if you step in one you are teleported to the middle of the air where you fall to a glorious death and a kill zone cannon guess section where if you choose the wrong one you land in a kill zone. The "idol" is a golf ball

I'm also making decorative maps of the Statue of Liberty, the Deathstar and in relation to 40k I'm going to be making a giant statue of the Emperor Enthroned.

I'm going to make an old wild west town with the old time special effect complete with a paddock full of Mongoose, magnums at either end of the main street for a high noon shoot out, a warthog as a "coach", a jail, blacksmith/barn, docs place, general store, Hotel/Saloon and a church. Each building will have specific weapons and other equiptment like the general store having armor abilities, docs will have healths, church will have power ups etc.

Thank you. I've also recently decided to make a giant playable pyramid with all sorts of booby traps and other goodies.

Oh has anyone else figured out how to make button activated booby traps? It's possible (and very fun) to make a hidden landmine that won't explode untill a button is pushed in a differant location which then arms it turning a safe area into a tricky piece of death. Want to lure someone into a trap? well lure them through a door way that is safe for the moment, push the button then when they run through the door they're dead here is a hint. It includes landmines, shield doors and merged objects

No he does what he is commanded to and escorts DR. Halsey. Like I said though I don't think anything official has been released on what happens to him but in a later book Halsey is found on Reach in the ONI facility and she's alone so he either got seperated from her or was killed. And I think you'd be hard pressed to find any Spartan that would just cower away and flee.

Anyone any good at making invasion maps?

I've got phase 2 & 3 objectives to work on a map, but am struggling to get phase 1 objective to work.

Phase 1 is supposed to be planting a bomb to shut down some force fields, but for some reason it wants me to capture the area, rather than plant a bomb.

For anyone who is interested, the map can be found here (titled BLAM! as for some reason Tempest Fugit is filtered).

Phase 1 and 2 of the map are pretty much done in terms of building work, phase 3 still needs building.

C&C welcome, but I would really like someone to help me set up the bomb

As an aside, this tutorial has been very helpful in building this map.

I'm not sure what a Dyson sphere is but that dosen't sound very accurate. There is a book that came out before Reach (can't remember the name) that takes place after Halo: combat Evolved where John and Cortana end up returning to Reach and discover that the Covenant havent completly glassed the planet because they're looking for something. John and Cortana then find survivors including the rest of his squad which he sent planetside and Dr. Halsey in a ONI facility.

They find some artifact that bends time and space and the Covenant want it so bad they kill 2 of their own Hunters (plus a number of grunts and jackals standing near by) who fired on the group while they had the item. After escaping they take over a Covenant Cruiser and are trying to get back to Earth but are damaged and all this other stuff. Well anyway Dr. Halsey and a female spartan take a ship stolen from some rebel human faction and dissapear. As far as I know that is the last time they're heard of.

A Dyson Sphere is an artifact which is believed to be pretty much the peak of technological development.

It is a sphere which completely surrounds a star, collecting all the suns energy. Other forms have been postulated where people actually live on the inner surface of the sphere as well.

This is not true. I'm pretty sure someone other than your friend would know about it if it was.

As for religion, I'm pretty sure all the main ones still exist. The covenant also have their religion - they believe they can attain godhood via the halo array as the forerunners did.

Yep, took me 1 day to complete the game, and then went on live, after a week it was just meh, more of the same.

Campaign was far to easy(IMO) btw.

Even Legendary was easy, to me at least. I still like the game though, I use Forge World alot.

Almost all modern games are easy, at their worst you need a few tries to get a hang of something new and then you just steam on through.

Defiant Map Pack has been anounced (unoficially) by the french site Halo Destiny. The links below are to a swedish site though.

Condemned:
Apparently takes place on a condemned human ship.

Unearthed:
Not sure what's happening here, but it looks like some mining operation.

http://www.gamereactor.se/media/62/halo_236229.jpg

Highland/High Ground/Training Reserve:
Looks like a human base. In the background, the glassing of Reach has begun. Not sure on the name though. The french name (damn their localized versions) for the map is Haute-Terre, but I've seen the map being called Training Reserve as well. :/

I believe this is actually quite new. Bungie are banning people from their forums who are posting those pictures. It was no mystery that more maps were to be expected, and perhaps the name Defiant has been mentioned by Bungie or someone else, but these are some of the first pictures of the new maps AFAIK.

BTW, are you sure you're not thinking of Noble Map Pack?

Oh yeah, thats it. Stopped following the releases after I completed it. Bungie flipped off Microsoft anyway so I expect only misery to come to the franchise now.

I'm loving the new unlimited firefight mode. Seriously pimped my rank in quite a short time (as well as being very fun).

Almost a major now.

You think you have no life, I play WoW now so I haven't been on recently, but I hear one of my mates is now a legend...

LOL, I find your statement quite offensive! I'm Colonel Grade 2, and I have a life. But I do get matched up with a lot of guys who are the crescent moon rank (Mythic?) and have Onyx'd practically every commendation available. They, on the other hand, can't have much of a life.

I didn't get why they didn't put unlimeted firefight online before. I mean it was the only multiplayer of ODST and was good.

Alas, that is the pain of having Reach on Xbox LIVE.
That's why Im trying to level up and buy stuff as much as I can before I go on LIVE (Because I don't have xbox live yet).
