I have nothing more to add other than complaints about multi players continual focus on team work and objectives. I'm playing a video game to be antisocial and kill digital versions of people in cool ways that is all.

Still, blood gulch looks Amazing, even it you have to cross half the map to be able to see people with the sniper.
what I want to know is if its the exact same with the massive bit added on, how do you get there? I think that massive section of wall will be removeable

Probably a switchback road, grav-lifts or teleporters.

just put your best sniper and laser dudes in that and fly about the battle, two falcons can carry the whole of noble team so they hold at east three people in the cargo bay
I'm much more interested on their being multiplayer space shooty bits :3 Like, Invasion from the Beta, on a space station(or multiple ones) where one part of it is an actual space battle, that would be so freaking awesome.

see I had an Idea similar to that, a whole frigate as the map, as in a fully operating commisioned frigate and they had to fight from the hanger to the bridge and then get to an escape pod
Soladrin wrote:I'm much more interested on their being multiplayer space shooty bits :3 Like, Invasion from the Beta, on a space station(or multiple ones) where one part of it is an actual space battle, that would be so freaking awesome.
I think space multiplayer has been confirmed as not in. Re: blood gulch, the wall is indeed removable - you can see it both present and not present in different scenes in Deja View.
Reach can't come soon enough. Especially since until my xbox is repaired I'm stuck playing Fire Warrior on the ps2. How that game got such high reviews I'll never know.
Only problem is that my pre-ordered Legendary copy will be going to my parents house due to my bank card still being registered there - really need to change that since I've not lived there for 6 years
But it is only half an hour away, so I will be playing it soon enough
I'd like to see covenant seraphs be pilotable as well as that UNSC spacecraft. And a SW Battlefront 2 style space battle between a covenant and UNSC ship.

Can I assume that means Silver+Risley shenanigans with heavy weapons will ensue for the campaign?
GalacticDefender wrote:I'd like to see covenant seraphs be pilotable as well as that UNSC spacecraft. And a SW Battlefront 2 style space battle between a covenant and UNSC ship.
What about a Battlefront Elite Squadron style battle? It's a space battle AND a land battle going on at the same time.
4 player legendary is always the way to go though. And it is so rare that you can get that many people interested in doing it - early on after release would probably be the best time.
I usually go for Heroic, rather than Legendary. Still need to finish off Halo 3 and ODST in Legendary... perhaps that should be my goal over the next few weeks?
Kanluwen wrote:Can I assume that means Silver+Risley shenanigans with heavy weapons will ensue for the campaign?
*Strokes beard*
May well have to get a group of Dakka members together and play through the Reach campaign together the weekend it comes out or something
I'd be up for it. Last time I played with Americans, there was an abominable amount of lag for some reason, but that was in H3 with four players so that might be fixed in Reach.
Sure, I want to do it solo too, so perhaps if we give everyone a few days to play through it on their own and then have a 4 player legendary game either the first weekend or the weekend after.
I can't remember if I have added you on Live, Ninja - my GT is my username here. Just say that you are Ninja from Dakka
It would be nice if the number of people in a big team playlist was raised from the current 16. It will be rather disapointing if the new huge blood gulch could only have 16 players running around it, as it would take forever to find someone to kill or to walk back to the front line after dieing.
I imagine using Cortana's voice will just result in your Spartan going mute and having Cortana natter in his/her ear or something like that.
And John (Chief) doesn't have much reason to talk during combat. He's gone through thirty-odd years of total hell; nonstop fighting, first against insurgents, then against a massive alien empire that totally curbstomped the outer colonies, then against freaky alien parasites that consumed an entire galaxy.
He's witnessed almost every single Spartan he knew go missing or die, he's seen countless hundreds of Marines die, and has (possibly) lost a woman that he (possibly) loves. It's not made totally clear whether love can bloom between Spartans.
I know that, just what will they say we've gone through the whole trilogy with john not saying anything and cortana only putting in input when absolutely necessery
now it they have cabosse, sarge, tucker, donut etc as firefight voices that would be cool
CAMPAIN TRAILER some people don't want to see any of this so it's in a spoiler box
Spoiler:
Couple of things to note: COD6 style flare scene, the dog tags, in the year 2552 women can drive, wind turbines at 00:18 and that bit with the banshees looks awesome
EDIT: also that red elite looks like he's boarding something? and at the tip of his sword there's a body?
I like the idea of being able to do firefight missions against waves of enemies on custom forge maps - can think of plenty of cool fortresses to hide in etc
Also got some good ideas for massive battles covering pretty much the whole of forgeworld
All of the game modes in the beta were fun, except for invasion for the elites. I heard stories of them winning a match but I never say it. For me, spartans ALWAYS won.
Incidentally, I PMed Yakface, who plays Halo, and he said he'd be interested in joining the dakka clan, but he plays at very odd-hours that are probably closer to the times that you guys will play the times that I will play.

I think that Dutch site is on some mighty fine collective crack. I only see two seats as well.
Kinda odd to have the driver control both. Really would make more sense for Passenger to control turret, this seems a little overpowered, faster than a Wraith, faster travelling bullet, with what looked to be about same strength? Only downside seems to be that you can shoot the driver out.
VikingScott wrote:Whats the update on it?
Just looks?
What part are you refering to? The vehicle, which is brand new, the engine, which is brand new so they can do ridiculously large and pretty maps, or the gameplay, which is being completely re-balanced from the ground up (Weapon damages, ranges, accuracy, etc)
I think he's talkinga bout the update on the gauss hog. And, no clue, haven't seen or heard of anything new on it, or where this rumor came from.
As for the new covenant thing. The projectile isn't hardly as fast as the gauss,. Gauss is like a sniper cannon, where as this is more of an energy bazooka.
Well, from what we've seen (which is just the new look) it just looks a little different. So, until stated otherwise, you can look forward to being cheap with it.
I'll be in the clan, I've no particular wish to join in the campaign but I've made some kickass forge maps in H3 so I should be quite good at it, I onestly can't wait for this, Forge world will be amazing, I'm just ecstatic about the release and have a personal countdown in my head. So yeh feel freed to add me (GT:scarskull5) if you want to play or check out maps and I'm sure the dakka clan will all enjoy reach together!
VikingScott wrote:If I am for some reason unable to pre-order what's your guys estimate on when it'll be back in stock?
Well, considering it's a Halo game with F***ING JETPACKS, my guess would be some time in 2012?
But honestly I've never had problems getting a new game a few days/weeks after release if I wasn't able to preorder it, so I don't think it should be too hard to find a copy of this one laying around. Try a retail store like Target/Walmart if your game store is all out.
I'm guessing everyones seen the celeb noble team squad which one lucky gamer get's a chance to lead, I say we train on H3 till reach comes out, then take them on like badasses! Anyone in?
I gotta say the real gamers will completly take out the celeb team. Even if they actually have the best player in the world I doubt they're in the lead by much. And the rest of the team will let them down.
Normal..... that's pretty difficult, lol sorry joke among my community, because we play easy first, then legendary, and I still have like 2 levels on legendary that I've been too lazy to beat, so Xbox Live just says I beat Easy :S.
That's definitely true. I wish they didn't erase my clips, because that one of me cloaked with the Spartan Laser blasting their entire team, and then clipping you with the bare edge of it was hilarious.
Nice, is everyone here (other than Scott) the same here as on Xbox Live? I haven't been playing much these days, because the person I normally play with has an addiction to Firefight :(.
Strange, I tried to add Kanluwen and TherVadem this morning but for both it said something like it couldn't process it, so I don't know what's happened there, I'll try again tommorrow, second I've recently been making some competetive multiplayer maps, ones done (to look like swordbase from reach ) and another coming, shall I fileshare them and link to dakka cos all my friends say they're great.

Trying to go through Halo 2 on legendary in prep for Reach.
...Halo 3 and ODST are a joke on legendary compared to Halo 2. Snipers are brutal, never miss, 1 hit kills. Elites take 6 bursts of BR to break shields, then you still have to hit them in the head while they run for cover. It feels like Halo 3 with several skulls on.
I find myself wondering if I'm actually having fun.

I disagree. Snipers in Halo 3 one-hit you on Legendary, and anything with a Carbine or Needler is deadly considering enemies are capable of getting headshots and needles inflict impact damage now.
It took me ages to do Sierra 117 on Legendary. Snipers, snipers EVERYWHERE.

I'll agree the snipers in 3 are also annoying, but they do tend to miss at least once (at least in ODST they do, I haven't played regular Halo 3 in a while though). I do remember Sierra 117 to be nightmarish in the amount of snipers. But besides them, the brutes are just a joke compared to fighting elites. I think snipers on legendary are just there to make you want to throw your controller through the TV.
SilverMK2 wrote:I found ODST to be really easy on Legendary. Halo 3 I find to be really difficult on Legendary - still not been able to force myself through it yet
I agree that ODST was easier than Halo 3 on Legendary. Halo 3 Legendary snipers and riflers really got on my nerves.
Why is everyone complaining about snipers on Legendary? All you haver to do is find some cover and snipe them back! Although among my group of friends I'm generally regarded as an insane sniper, so whatever. If you can't find a sniper use a br or a carbine.
*shudders* Halo 2 legendery sniper jackles are the worst, playing outskirts and trying to get through sniper alley after johnson gets in the pelican, its horrible.
I didn't really like Halo Wars actually. The controls weren't as easy as PC RTSes, and I wasn't good at it all, which I will admit affects how much I like a game, sadly.

If you haven't seen/heard, Reach has been leaked, it was from Microsoft's blatant ineptitude as well. Pretty much, the full game of Reach was available on the dashboard, only to be downloaded by select reviewers. However, modders opened the security on the files and managed to access and get the full game off there. It's on a whole gaggle of sites now, MS must be heaving one great big sigh.
Just thought I'd post these for anyone who hasn't seen them yet.
http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/halo-reach/achievements/ They all seem real to me, and most of them seem fairly easy, it should be fun to try and get them, but enjoyable too. Sadly, I see no Vidmasters or anything like them, but ay well.
Gorgeous Gary Golden wrote:When games this big get leaked this early, what, like 3 weeks or so until release, it'd be nice if they'd push forward the release some.
Half-Life 2 was delayed for quite a while when it was leaked, I seem to recall.
That just seems more like a punishment, for the people who are actually gonna buy the game. D-bag modders will always find some way to lame their way into getting new, big-name games early. I mean, it's not like they're still doing intense work a week or two before release, a ton of games are already done like a month before their release date, just push it forward and take a bit of the satisfaction from the pirates.
I've had pre-orders before where I've not had to pay until it ships, so perhaps that is the case here. Especially if you pre-ordered in branch, I would imagine you need to pay on collection.
Preordered Reach Limited Edition from game.co.uk. So that means i'll have 3 "limited" armors for myself :3
But still cannot wait for this game the beta was not enough!! (but by the God-Emperor, i hope Bungie nerfed those grenades)
It was like MW2 but with a halo skin!
Note, anyone with a Cosco nearby, they have it for pre order for 45 bucks. My mom told me this after I spent 63$ at Gamestop. However that may be just what you need to pre-order, not a full purchase.
May have to have a couple of days off ill when it comes out
Can't wait to get my hands on forge - I hope they provide pre-empty maps with this one, and don't automatically spawn goals etc when you set game type - it took so long to shift flag spawns and things in the last game
Oh, and I'm sure the game will be fun too*
*Will be playing it through on Heroic first methinks.
Me is doing Normal first then forging then matchmaking fun for a while. Then I'm gonna join in the second season of the arena and eventully complete campaign on legendary, obviously customs and firefight I will fit in along the way.
Got legendary coming my way, really cant wait for this. Hmm thinking normal then back throught on legendary on single player to soak up all the halo goodness.
There is a new version of Waypoint - just downloading it now. Hope there is lots of fun things on there
@ Kanluwen - excellent mwahaha!
I'm really looking forward to making firefight levels in forge - stupidly so
Edit: New Waypoint looks pretty cool - there are now 60 levels, it lists all the unlockable Reach armour types that you have and do not have (and also the requirements that you need to get them - some of the requirements are getting achievements in other games). You can also now compare your career with friends, which is cool
There is also a leaderboard for people on your friends list, which is cool

Even if the scores did not count towards anything it would extend the life of the game dramatically.

A friend and I actually attempted to do such a thing on halo 3, setting up grav lifts at angles with rapidly spawning fusion cores that caused explosions on the beach.

I made a large AT-AT(or whatever the large 4 legged version of that is) in Halo 3 which had a similar thing - firing fusion coils towards a base
The new Forge should make building and designing such things so much easier
Yeah, for now I'm sticking with default (melee on the bumper). I keep forgetting to use the armor abilities, despite having played the beta... although a lot of the scenarios don't seem to use them!
Lots of crappy games, but for the team games I had a sniper one where I was +8, another sniper one where I only died once and a Team Swat where I had the most kills. For some reason I'm better at these than the normal modes... guess I have a quick twitch but can't seem to kill anyone if it's not 1-2 shots per kill . Flashing back to the days of the Halo 1 pistol, too...
Anyway, sweet game, will try the single-player campaign tomorrow! Is it possible to join with random people to do a cooperative campaign, or only with "friends"? (And also for firefight?)
It was funny seeing people's comments encountering things for the first time. There's a multiplayer map where you can briefly float above the level, and in space... hearing people on the mic going "I'm in space... what do I do now..." was hilarious. Also, the sound is muted appropriately (although it should probably be dead silent) which is cool!
I have to admit, on the whole, that I'm rather disappointed with the game. Overall, it shows that Bungie is tiring of the Halo series, and has no desire to innovate.
The campaign is nice, but it was hard for me to follow, at times. What's more, I'm still frustrated that they couldn't add in a few simple squad commands using the 3 d-pad buttons they don;t use. Would "go there/shoot that," "come here/get in" and "hold position" have been that hard? What bothers me about this is that there are points in the game where you supposedly have a squad under your direct command, but can't tell the lackluster Marine AI to do anything useful.
Multiplayer is just as much of a letdown. They did so much to promote their new class system, but in reality, it pales in comparison to most other class-based multiplayer games. There is no synergy between classes, and certain maps/game modes where certain abilities are plain out useless.
Finally, my biggest gripe might very well be the squandered potential of the armor customization system. Giving the different armor options bonuses instead of going with the pure aesthetics could have made for a much deeper, more interesting game.
There are a few things the game does right. I like that my armor options show up in campaign cut scenes, in particular. I appreciate the inclusion of slit screen co-op and horde (Firefight) modes, and ForgeWorld plus the theater are awesome, on top of that. But these features are what we've come to expect from the series, and, largely, do not break any new ground.
Spoiler:
Perhaps the biggest wasted opportunity is the lack of any multiplayer space combat gametypes. By far, the space combat missions where the funnest in the campaign, and the most innovative thing about the game for the series. A direct port of the campaign space combat map into multiplayer and firefight, so that players can dogfight each other or take on waves of enemies, respectively, would have been huge amounts of fun. I hope, at least, that they will add this in a future update or DLC pack.
It's not the game I wish it was, nor that it could be.

They were never intended to be 'classes', like in Battlefield or Battlefront. They're 'loadouts', and are made to suit individual playstyles rather than battlefield roles.

Yeah, because that would be so fair on newbies.
It obviously works for a ton of other multiplayer FPS's, like CoDMW2.
It's not the same. In MW2, I can just pick up someone's FAMAS/Akimbo Rangers/Akimbo G18s. Halo is closer to classic deathmatch shooters like Goldeneye, and as such is reliant on skill, not gear and perks.
Gear upgrades might be good on game types where you are fighting the AI (such as compaign and firefight). Personally I don't really like gear upgrades such as the ones in CoD where the higher rank you are the better bonuses you get.
I stopped playing CoD:MW2 purey because of the upgrades. It's no fun when someone who spends their life online pops up with the airstrike or helecopter.
I've enjoyed what I've played of it so far, though only got a couple of hours in last night.
My main problem is with how the new spartan pc looks, theres just something i cannot place my finger upon, i think mainly its because my white armoured spartan looks more like he's been painted with a mixture of space wolves grey and codex grey.
The shoulder armour looks a little to sleek for my liking right now, but I have no doubt I'll be unlocking more pieces for purchase later.

I think Bungie wanted to tone down the super-colourful models of Halo 3. White looked kind of silly, as did pink and yellow.
Colours look nice and washed-out now, even on Elites.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Had a few fun games with Kanluwen yesterday too. The Falcon shooting spree at the end of that Invasion game was awesome.
I'm already diving on into forge and mad a map simply to get used to controls, it sucks when actually played in slayer etc. So I decided to try and make a different one, a team based one. So far I have made the convenant base, with a vehicle depot (that you have to spawn inside, thank you one way doors! ) and inside that is 3 revenants a wraith and a teleporter, just for the red team/covenants. The teleporter leads to a sniper nest, where there is a focus rifle and a health pack on the back of a doorway you walk through in the nest, the covenant porter is the only way to get to this spot, barring jetpacks. There's also two 2 storey buildings led to by a ramped bunker, and in there is a variety of weapons, and health pack, and shade turrets positioned extremely carefully, so when you use them your still in first person to look out the window, because your view sort of blends through the wall, it's quite awesome. To add more detail the tower that leads to the sniper nest is just stacked perfectly aligned blocks, and at the bottom of the tower is the roof of the vehicle depot, which has barricades and multiple weapons for the covenant to feast on, theres stairs at the side to get onto this roof area.
Meanwhile at the opposite side of the map atm there is just the begginings of a 3 storey building in the middle of their area, with floor plans for vehicle depots on each side, also blocked with 1 way doors. 1 will contain a scorpion, whereas the other will most likely have 1 of each type of warthog, though I haven't decided yet. The play will be able to get onto the roof of the UNSC depots aswell, and if they look up they will see bridges which run from the main building to other buildings at the sides of the depots, theres gonna be lot's of mounted machine guns over her! And once more, a sniper nest with an actual sniper will be accesible from one or both of the depots, there will again be a health pack, and I'll probably use mancannons to send people there, that or teleporters. (btw just for everyones information, all my teleporters have the frame on them, I think it looks alot nicer, neater.)
So yeh, it's really shaping up, extremely neat for me aswell! I have no real plans for the middle yet, apart from possible continuous artillery in the form of cannon, vehicle'ed fusion coils, and possibly walkways at either side. Would love feedback, and I'll link the final map when it's done, happy forging to the rest of yers!
PS: are we still having a dakka clan base? Cos I would loooooooooove to make that for us, and I think I'd do a pretty decent job too, trying not to sound vain here but ay well.
Argh! Just had a horrible bout of losing. Everyone votes for the eternally boring SWAT or 'Pro' gametypes, which don't have armour abilities or interesting loadouts.
Team Slayer is an awful playlist, but it's the most popular so I can always find a game there. Wish Bungie would do more to push the objective gametypes.
SWAT's usually my game, for some reason . Even after playing the demo, still getting used to the armor abilities (although I think they're awesome) so SWAT seems to help me out a bit.
I, too, like the objective games a lot... although the main thing for me is finding a team that works together. Once I've done that, any scenario seems fun... although I think if I don't actually "party up" with them, sometimes I can end up on the opposite team!
I was noticing. The humans waepon and soldier are WAY stronger then the covenant. and i was reading. if it wasnt for there vastly inferior navy they would win the war easy.
OMG just got 100$ for my birthday! Will be getting Halo: Reach this weekend. Unfortunately, two important storyline components have already been spoiled for me..... Stupid kids.... :S
Anyone else notice cortanas pic when the docter was talking about the A.I? Could she be a forerunner A.I and not a copy of the docter with that just being a cover?
Also how long did everyone last in the end after the credits? i didnt laast long cause i didnt really care.
that was part of cortana that halsey took to study the forerunner AI so they would be finished in time, only cortana would be good enough, it says so in the journal.
you knew from the start that noble team would die, they died to save humanity
Had a blast on big team battle last night with a full party of my friends. And the map is finished btw, we went on it after and had an immensly fun 4v4! Link below, called war and gametype warfare.

Just thought I would post a link to a map I made. Not finished but it has all the basics you need for a team slayer match (red vs blue - blue on the island and red on the cliff).
Reds have more defensive stuff, with only 2 flacons to transport people to the blue base. Blues have less defensive stuff, but have lots of banshees to attack the reds with.
I will be pimping out the blue base and adding some outlying defensive/interesting structures later on. I will also add support for other game types.
Anyway, let me know what you think (either here, on Live, or on the Bungie site).
Has anyone had trouble unlocking the 'If they came to hear me beg' achievement? I managed to get it on my first Heroic playthrough, but damn it took a long time.
I got it with Kanluwen (pretty sure that is his dakka name ) - took us a while but we were just messing around doing it. Actually did it a couple of times before I got the achievement on the 3rd assassination.

Oi!
We learnt that Spartans do bounce, so it was all perfectly acceptable!
Also, since it was lost at the bottom of the last page, here is a link to a map I made. Still WIP, but the basics of it are done, and the red base is pretty much finished structurally.
Had one download since I added it last night though. Any comments, let me know
Is there any way someone could consolidate the gamertags posted in this thread into a single post? I want to search for some of yours but I am rather lazy . I think SilverMK2 and Kanluwen yours are the same as your Dakka ones? (As is mine, assuming gamertags are not case-sensitive...)

I've done the assassination at least 10 times now, finally had the forethought to record a couple of clips as evidence last two times too, still no achievement for me though.

Remember that it has to be the air-to-ground assassination animation. IIRC, it's the one where you knock the Elite over and snap his neck with your feet.
Random question: Why does everyone have so much trouble with the Halo 2 jackal snipers on legendary? All you have to do is hide behind something, pop up, snipe one, duck down again, wait for them to fire their random shots, pop up again, shoot another one, etc. Pretty easy, although it can be time consuming.
Me and a friend were playing on overlook. when we just destroyed att the enemies we were heading back to the bunker. Right when i ran to it a drop pod dropped RIGHT NEXT to me. the other fun part is my friend loves using a plasma pistol to take down vehicles. The overcharge it awesome.

That's the animation I have had every time save the one.
Holy gak, Legendary is insane. I was playing Exodus last night and I'm stuck at the end of the mission. I've activated the two missile batteries, but I can't get to the control room due to the insane amount of Skirmisher snipers, Chieftains and Ghosts.
I was literally ready to put my fist through the screen at one point. This is nuts!

The sad part is that Exodus is one of the easier missions, at least for me. The lack of elites is a big difference The most painful is by far the last actual mission, the very last bit where you're defending the platform and then when you have to face four zealots. So painful.
I think Brutes are much harder to face than Elites if you don't have a DMR or Needle Rifle. They can apparently kill you with a single melee attack and their spikers are ludicrously accurate.
Elites can kill you with the single mele kick as well. Reach is deffinitly harder then the others which is a good thing, even the Grunts are a bit tougher now. I am having trouble hijacking a banshee though, anyone got any advice? which level and such?
I for one am also very happy that you don't face the Flood in this one. I knew from the story line that The Flood woulden't be in the game but once I played it and realised I didn't have to play through a single narrativly pointless mission filled with alien zombies I was very happy

Do 'The Package.' When you get to the section with the spider turrets and you have to hold the door, you can get a jump pack. There will be two banshees in the air. The level advances by killing enemies, so you can have an almost infinite amount of time to try and jump pack up and grab one of the banshees while the rest of noble holds off the enemy AI (they're actually useful for once). Wait for the banshees to start a strafing run and try to jump pack to them and hijack the bugger. It may take a few tries as they don't always fly in a way that makes hijacking them easy but eventually you'll get a good shot at it.

Agreed. I never much liked the flood levels on legendary. Especially the war crime that was Cortanna. So painfully annoying.
Hardest mission for me had to be mission 4 (nightfall?) Had to take out 2 turrets, 1 elite and 3 brutes with my barehands on legendary. I swear I was ready to go outside and shotgun a crowd.
have to say though the sword is probably the most useful thing vs elites and brutes it saved me so many times.
