As did I, but if I had to pick between PS3 and 360 I'd get the PS3 if only because I already have a microsoft gaming platform in this house.

They're both pretty similar to me. The majority of the games are more or less the same, with the few differences which are partially the reason I chose one over the other (the other was my friends were on it already).
Basically, it boiled down to:
360: Ikaruga, SNK KOF UM games on XBLA
PS3: Guilty Gear 1 re-release on PSN, Demonsouls
I would be tempted to get a PS3 for Demonsouls, but the price for one game isn't really worth it to me. All the others I play are cross platform.
The other issues:
Controller - I much prefer the PS3 one, but most games I play on an Arcade Stick anyway, which handles the same wherever.
Price - 360 was cheaper to get new

This really isn't an argument for either system, but something I would just recommend to anybody looking to buy a console.
DON'T BUY USED, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T!
The systems of this generation can be hacked, when they are hacked the companies who made said system get mad. A coworker of mine bought a used 360 that couldn't go online because the previous owners had used bootlegged games. A guy I was talking to changed his lights to flash red when the 360 was working and green when the RROD would normally show.
SONY also uses the same methods, if a console is sitting in a used game store its there for a reason. Either the previous owner got locked out of online access or the system itself is outdated.

Or they needed money/didn't use it anymore. I agree with you that I'd always be suspicious about buying a second-hand console, but that's why I would only consider buying one from a store. (game mania here buys up used consoles for a few bucks and then does complete checks to see if theres any damage before they sell them on, or sell them for next to nothing if it's wasted).

Ps3. I mean really, paying to game online for Xbox? No thanks, no matter how cheap or how good the customer service is.
Besides, Xbox has Halo, Ps3 has Killzone, and I'm sure you could find a long list of similar games that are exclusive to each console.

Have you compared the two?
I think you'll find most of the kids/trolls on XBL are pretty much restricted to CoD and Halo. I play a lot of Assassin's Creed and other non- FPS games, and get on quite well with people.

Yeah, that's probably why. Both of them are full of bratty children and arsehats. However, it's fun to troll them. *trollface*
Try Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. I had an intelligent conversation on there, the other day. My conversations on CoD/Halo usually consist of:
"Why the hell are kids on this game? Bad parenting or what?" To bait the kids.

I'm looking at getting one or the other, likely next week.
Reckon I'll plump for PS3. Not only am I paranoid about getting Red Rings, but I really, really want to thrash my way through God Of War 3. The other games of interest appear to be cross platform. Got nothing against 360, other than not wanting it to crap out. It's just I prefer a PS3. Plus I'll be getting me an HDTV, and I want my monies worth out of it!

It's better to put it this way:
Ass hats are always drawn to FPS games in general. Gears of War for example has a much more intelligent community in my experience(along with being a superior game ).

It really sucks when you compare the two networks because the anecdotal evidence varies. I play MAG sometimes and that won't lag when it runs 256 players but CoD will when it runs 12 players. Then there are times that I have a completely lag free game on CoD, it just varies. As far as the quality of people on the networks there tends to be a lot of younger kids on XBL(mostly on FPSs as noted) but there tends to be the "frat boy bros" on the PS3. Both of them are annoying as hell and the only difference between the two is the pitch of their voices.

I've never played MAG (my friends who have played it keep telling me it's terrible, so I never picked it up). However, I've never had a decent game of CoD or anything on it, compared to the 360 version. Though the chat was better (no children, YAY!), it was so laggy. And I know it's not my connection, because my 360 doesn't lag.
The only non-laggy game I've played is probably Metal Gear Online. But, I think that's too awesome to be laggy (<3 Snake).

I really wish people would stop with the PC is superior crap. You get what you pay for. PC gaming much more expensive. A good alienware PC is a couple thousand at least. Gaming PCs (the superior ones everyone talks about) can be up to $3500.00 in some cases, which is way more than a 360 or a PS3. If you are dropping $500.00 on a PC from Wal-Mart it will look nowhere near as good as a 360 or a PS3.
Anyone that keeps saying the PC is better crap needs to take their Chevy Cavalier P.O.S. to the nearest dealership and sell it so they can buy a Aston Martin, because you know they are superior to cavaliers and neons right? I don't have three grand to drop on a PC every 5 years. When my gaming needs get to that point, I will stop playing these games altogether. I do have $500.00 for a console and to me that makes the 360 and PS3 superior.
Now on the topic of PS3 versus 360. It is really down to the game library now. Graphics are pretty much equal on both systems. If you don't feel like dropping extra money for xbox live, the PS3 is for you. If you got an extra $50.00 a year, they xbox live is pretty nice. Don't worry about a particular console having a certain game that you musty play. Each system has very good games that are exclusive.
Now for me, I think people should have both systems. They have both been out for awhile and if you could afford to drop $400.00 in one or the other 5 years ago, then I don't see a reason why you can't buy the other system now. Five years ago, the choice would have been easier, because the 360 had better graphics and games. That has all changed now and anyone can get a lot of enjoyment out of both systems. Both companies have stressed that they want 7-10 years out of each system, so if you don't have both, then pick the other up.

My pc costs little over 600$ and can run crysis on very high settings (shaders on high) and get average of 45 fps (low 25-30 fps).
If you think pc isn't the best then list 5 thing that consoles do better than pc (all consoles combined, wii is an expensive toy not a console). I'll even help with one.
1. fast software installation

Yeah if your spending over $1000 on a desktop computer your doing it wrong (and alienware is right out)
Seriously get a cpu motherboard combo and a case then work from there. Greatest thing about computers is everything is upgradeable, next generation of games come out just upgrade your video card and while everyone is buying a new system you spend $100-$150 and have a card that will last you 6 years.
When getting a computer there are 3 main things to worry about:
CPU
Video Card
Ram - Easy fix aslong as your motherboard has spare memory slots (16gigs is possible in almost all new motherboards)
All you need is a semi current motherboard and that will last you for years

You can buy PC's with better hardware than consoles for about the same price, AlienWare is rediculously overpriced, most of the time its like they have a 400% increase on the cost of building the computer. (Dell etc arnt much better, you can get a much better deal at somewhere like tigerdirect).

What about having the upgrade that PC to play the latest games? I only have to purchase a playstation once in a decade. Try that PC. I have did the PC thing. I remember buying Neverwinter Nights and having to shell out $400.00 to get my PC able to play it. I did that a few more times over the years before I decided it wasn't worth it.

I like the PC as a gaming forum, although I probably don't use it enough as one if I'm honest, mainly MMO's and Sims3, but it is a good platform.
However I still like to sit back on my sofa with just a pad in my hands and chill playing on the main tv.
Yes I know the PC can be set up like if you so wish, but the sort of games I like playing on the console, I prefer on the console.
I'd not try, or wish to try Lego games, or Saints Row etc as they work perfectly fine as they are with a simple console controller.
I could never see my leaning back on the sofa with a keyboard on my lap while trying to control a mouse while playing a MMO. Yes once again, you'd have a lap table or some nonsense, but its an extra item needed in the house.
At the moment I can turn off my PC, finsih painting or whatever, grab a pad, fire up the console and just play, its simple and I like it that way.
Regarding the OP, still no game on the PS3 that has forced my hand to get one yet.
Not sure thats going to change for the moment, nothing I've spotted due this spring summer anyway. Maybe something at E3 will catch my eye?
So the forseeable future Xbox 360 only for me.

I would say Metal Gear Solid 4, but it is coming to the 360. The uncharted series should seal the deal for you. Infamous is pretty good too, think Prototype but actually good. Demon's Souls is considered good by a lot of people, (not me). However unless you play them you will never know. Try seeing if a friend has any of them.

Games depend on people's preferences, Killzone is a great game but it isn't for everyone.
PS3:
1) Fast software install
2) PS3 exclusives are just that, no God of War or Little Big Planet on the PC.
3) Upgrades are downloaded, for free.
4) Don't have to pay for cables to play it on the television.
5) No myg0t
