People tell me how low cost consoles are. I decided to do the math to find out. THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE GAMES
On an Xbox or PS3
Cost usually $250 (console only)
Awesome 60" 1080p HDMI TV $2000+
Awesome suround sound system $1200+
controllers $60
Xbox live $60/year
Headset $60
Total: $3,570 (PS3) $3,630 (Xbox 360)

Now do you still say that its low cost?
Here is an above average gaming computer
PC.
Best AMD proccessor and mother board $350
750 Watt power supply $100
750GBB needleless hard drive $350
57/70 ATI Radeon graphics card $140
24 bit Rocket fish 7.1 sound card $55
G500 logitech gaming mouse $70
Logitech gaming keyboard $80
Logitech headset $60
Great Sound system $120
22" monitor $150
Total: $1475

Now since all of think that the console is cheaper. Remember this you WANT the best sound system, YOU WANT the best TV for your console.
Which IN REALITY you end up spending more money on accessories.

4 things:

1. I don't think many people care about having there console projected in a hi-def TV as much as you suggest.
2. Why not include a cost of a basic library for each system, PC games are often cheaper. This would already make the appealing aspects that you've shown with the PC even greater.
3. This is the wrong section of the forum it should be in the "video games" section.
4. If this turns into system wars debate I'm literally going to scream and hurl my 360 controller at my computer screen. That topic has been beaten to death, the same argument get repeated all the time and they're full of "fan-boy" bigotry.

Well I've left out the HDMI TV, Sound System, and headset, which saved me $3260. Meaning my Xbox went from 3570 to about $300.

This left me with enough for my gaming pc, which also had a lot less than listed. I didn't bother with the sound system, headset, and I didn't get the best pc either but it will still play any game I get. This cost me about £500 as I was careful to look around for the best value stuff.

You've really listed every possible addition. Most people just have the basic stuff, with a middle of the range screen and speakers, and one of two extras.

You can just as easily use the same exact television and sound system for your computer as you can for your console. In fact, as I'm typing this, I'm staring at a 42" television screen (that is also hooked up to my 360). The 360 comes with a controller, it comes with a headset, and you can easily forego about twenty inches on that TV (a 60" TV is incredibly excessive; it wouldn't even fit anywhere in my house), and spend only 300 to 500 dollars on an HDMI TV. That is, if you don't already have one.

You're going top-of-the-line with everything for the console. If you did the same thing with the computer, it would skyrocket over five grand in a heartbeat (you'd pay less for two consoles than you would for the latest video card). That's without that ridiculous telvision and sound system that you so gratuitously heaped on to the price of the console.

A gaming PC will always cost far more than a console will. That's kind of the point, at this point.

Pain is an illusion of the senses, Despair an illusion of the mind.

I got a 22 inch tv for what..£140? And my X Box for I think £190?

Dead cheap. And it's given me hours upon hours of entertainment.
Your argument is based ENTIRELY on the idea that someone wants a super high quality sound system and tv for their console, and it doesn't hold water.

Yea, also the crafty cheap ass (Im also the King of that as well ) will laugh at that $1200 surround sound set up your bragging about. I can honestly say, that I made one using a $250 stereo (you know, those 5 disc changer types) and add about $20 worth of cables and made myself a surround sound set up that ate most of those top end ones for breakfast. Not to mention it lasted me just over 7 years, good luck getting that type of performance on those surround sound systems. Ive rarely seen them last more then 2 years

I got a 360 for free (given by a relative emigrating) I also have a load of games from my brother in law.

I dont give a gak about a fancy assed TV or surround sound. My box is hooked up to a normal TV and does a good enough job.

My bro in law also makes PC's. His are fairly hefty beasts so, when he chops and changes, the bits remaining make up a whole new unit for me!

So a Live subscription and broadband internet package is all I really pay for aside from the odd game when I am out and about.

42" TV, $500
System, $300
4 controllers, $100(system comes with one and there was a buy 2 get one sale going on, plus employee discount and coupons)
Surround sound, $20(clearance and also employee discount, also came with a DVD player)
Headset, $25(motorola bluetooth, thank you PS3 for bluetooth abilities.)

So I only spent $945 on my system and like I said, I have four controllers.

I don't always save money, but when I do I use coupons.
Stay thrifty my friends.

Correct NEEDLELESS hard drive. thats why it costs the way it does.

You people say that MOST peolpe save money on their stuff. Hell no most people WILLINGLY throw away there money at xbox's, PCs, and PS3s. And that is the point that I am trying to make. The PC on the other is EXACTLY what I have. Though the xbox stuff comes from my friend. (filthy rich people) not saying that everyone is Exactly like that but most get close. And the games for consoles $60. lets say you buy 15 games over 5 months. that just paid for over half of my PC.

Oh and about buying games, yeah there's a thing with that.

I love retail;

Orange Box(PS3)= $9.98
Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion= $9.98
God of War= $9.98
God of War 2= $9.98
Pokemon Sapphire= $5.00
F.E.A.R= $9.98
Resistance 2 Collector's Edition= $39.99
Uncharted= $6.00
Bioshock 2= $19.99

Go ahead and choose your 5 games from that list.

Recent purchases for Christmas.
Fallout New Vegas(PS3) and Call of Duty Black Ops(PS3)= $120.00 and got a $50.00 gift card and a free guide for New Vegas

Call of Duty Black Ops(PS3) and Red Dead Redemption(PS3)= $89.99.(Buy one get on sale)

Mario Brothers Collection(Wii)= $29.99, came with a $5.00 gift card.

That doesn't include my nice 10% discount either and I put the gift cards towards the next purchases.

We also have the Jedi Knight games for the PC, Star Wars Battlegrounds for the PC, and Republic Commando for the PC all for $2.99. So yeah, your 5 game argument isn't useful for you.

Not be bashful about this BUT it is NEEDLE less hard drive. most hard drives today have needles in them to read the info off of the disk. A needle less hard drive uses a laser.

Why would you waste your $ on a 60in tv or a 1200$ sound system? That is extremely ignorant and 99.999999% of people arent going to waste their money on it. The OP has posted information that is so lopsided, I dont even know why people bother disusing it. You could easily spend more $ on a console OR a computer, it just depends how you want to waste your $.

I have never heard of a needleless hdd, unless you mean a solid state disk, which would cost exponentially more than 350$. However, that is not needed at all, decent hard drives last for many many years without crashing, hell, I have a western digital in my parent's computer that is damn near a decade old.

Those are called solid state drives, and hard drives have never used needles. It's called the read and write head and it's a tiny magnet/electron gun. You're prices are also wayyyyyyy off. Also, lasers? No. Thats an optical disk drive, thats how CD's and DVD's work. Hard drives have also never used lasers. You're all kinds of confused here.

And 360 doesn't have God of War, so, pick you poison. My solution, get both.

OP, I have a cheap PC I spent about $300 on, a 360 I bought new when it came out, what 6, maybe 7 years ago; I bought a PS3 when it came out about 5, maybe 6 years ago. I spent, I think $400 on both. If I buy a game for PC, I'm going to have to invest more money into it to work well. If I buy a game for either the 360 or PS3, I can put it right in and know it's going to work perfectly without anymore money invested. I think that works better, then having to reinvest money every 2 years to have the best proformance. IMO

Holy crap.....................ok Mr Burning, you can take the mantle of KingCheapass. Seriously you beat any cheap ass story I have ever had

I have one better. My uncle heard about a guy who bought a gewehr 41 for $30 and he went and asked $40 for it. Now remember a Gewehr 41 (working which it does) is worth 4,000+ dollars.

Professionals are predictable, it's the amateurs that are dangerous.
Anything you do can get you shot. Including doing nothing.
