11th page! Not to bad at all
Anyway, the banner bearer is all done with the exception of a few little bits. Please give me you thoughts!
The banner was copied from a picture off the internet, I drew (not traced!) the image onto another bit of paper, scaling it down at the same time. I then painted over the pencil with paints trying to keep as close to the original image as I could (the original image below)
http://sepulchreofheroes.blogspot.com/2009/11/blood-angels-banner.html
There is a bit of an unsightly line in the middle of the banner from the original pencil marks. It should come off easily enough though.
Wow! This has been a busy weekend for me. I hope to get a lot of painting done in the months to come so look out for moah stuff!

I really like that model....its so unusual to see a banner waving terminator. I'm scared of doing banners so I think the one you've done is all the better.
Brother Wolverine from the previous page is gorgeously painted too. OLS is looking good.

After having a Christmas break, I am back to painting and very daunted by the huge pile of models to paint. Anyway, I have painted another DC marine. It only took me two hours to do as I was painting feverishly trying to get it done at 10 o'clock last night.

I have finished painting the sanguinary priest. The armour is all blood splattered and worn to show that he is often found where the fighting is he thickest.
A little freehand on the pad.

Does anyone know a good (simple) tutorial on how to create press molds? I have been searching for them but they never seem to make much sense. I am planning on casting some BA bits that I have lying around as I need a lot of them to decorate a whole fortress of redemption While I am on that subject, do you think the fortress should be painted a nice deep red colour or black to represent a Death Company outpost of some sort?

Well, I have been working hard at numerous school projects but find myself sitting at my desk with a paintbrush in hand. The next day, two more termies painted up and a 600 word essay complete. Not bad
Termie number one with a salvaged space hulk flamer.
*NOTE- This termie above was actually painted without Blood Red paint, the basis of all my other maines. He may look a little dull but I shall have to mix a brighter red to add on to the armour (or invest in some new paints )
Termie number two-Battle-Brother Paulo
And for your viewing enjoyment, here is the group shot of all the finished AoBR Terminators. It just goes to show that with a bit of imagination and an nice big bitz box the possibilities that every miniature has.

After deciding that I needed a break from painting 40k, I dug out this OOP Rackham model that has been lying around for some time. The detail on the model was incredible! There are necklaces, bones and human fingers scattered all around him. The rocks were my own idea as the rock on the bottom was supposed to go on his back but I changed it for some scenery instead. As you can probably tell, I am not going to be moving this model around too much, the rocks are a little wobbly! View from the back. And finally, a close-up od the staff that is causing all the mayhem Ta ta for now!

That looks really cool Cain! But what is the symbol on the bottom rock?

I am not really sure, some arcane magical symbol I presume. Does the glow look good on the rock? I was unsure if I should keep it or not.

The glow is great. I love your glowing effects. That symbol looks like a certain WWII emblem though. Just a little curvier

OK, so I am back to painting 40k and the IG needed a paint touch-up. Yesterday I painted a HW team, and 5-man squad. Hope you like them! Comparison shot of the veteran ( RPG guy) and the regular trooper. Valkyrie pilot body and sentinel driver head. Free guardsman! Sergeant, notice the battle damage on the chainsword. Grenadier And two other troopers. The effect I am trying to achieve with the armour is an extremely worn, damaged green the has seen a lot of trench warfare. The same goes for the veteran except his original colour would have been white. I still have another 25 troopers and 2 HW teams to finish. I am not really sure where a whole 10-man squad came from because I have only ever bought two sets! Cain

@good green, I am in the process of making a large base for them all to be set out on. Hope it works!
Here is how far I am at on my BA army, still a few models to paint and a command squad and sang guard set in the post
So far the army stands at this;
3 tac squads
1 veteran squad
1 scout squad
3 termie squads
termie apothecary
2 DC squads
1 commander
1 command squad (not in pic)
2 librarians (power armour and termie armour)
1 assault squad-5 man
1 dred
1 sang guard squad (not in pic)
1 rhino
1 land speeder
I intend to have a lot of subtle conversions throughout the two chapters (1st and 2nd) Painting 200 marines could get a little boring otherwise
Robed vets and beakie vets together.
Might need to adjust the sergeants pose a little!
All the termies so far
The latest tac squad, note the pre heresy trooper with custom helmet and pack.
BFM squad with head swaps (gives them much more interesting poses)
And finally some DC with a dred in the background
I am still adding to the army and will have a fully painted 1st and second company painted as well as a command company (35 sang guard, Dante and others). Should be finished by the end of the week
Wish me luck! I am going to need it!

Wow i must have missed you last few updates matey,to my loss it seems ! what a collection of beautiful minis. Where to start.... well the death company look great , the blue flames look especially nice , iam actually looking for some examples of blue flames today so i got lucky ;-) thebn we have the amzingly detailed rackham, i do like their minis i have never owned any , but love the detail and movement the seem to achieve. much nicer than comparable citadel in my oppinion, good work with the rocks and the eery green glow.
where next...arh the cadian heavy weapon team , i think i said this before but very creative basing there mate, and you have weatherd the shoulderpads really well,i like where your going with this style. And who could forget the piece de resistance..a grot in power armour for your clever diorama, such a cheecky fellow, and the rust is well ..er rusty! ;-) is the diorama finished mate?
but whats this still more .. and what a sublime miniture you have for us in this chivalric knight ..first rate work, abosolutely loving that heraldry , perfect the wood is good too.
so anymore ..yep..good old reliable bloody angles ;-) lots to do their mate i expect that will keep you busy a while yet. although i think i find my first critique..well it cant be all good can it;-) the paint looks a little thick on your marines , and if you insist well the pic qaulity could be better.
finally , last but by no means least , we have a cute bot , that looks like its escaped from monkeytrolls grimsnick or is it upzag's workbench
top dollar performance all round .. but and there is a but .. where is the amazingly painted DKOK we all know yuo have stashed in your cupboards..come on share with the class

@Neil, truly my greatest thanks especially coming from you as I am constantly inspired by your work (especially the tank and artillery gun). Thanks a bunch for the encouragement guys!
WM and monkey, we seem to share the same mind. Only last week, I planned out how much it would cost to buy the entire BA chapter, DC and all!. $4000 is not too bad when you look a it with an open mind
Gits, I am clean out of termie legs right now BUT, I noticed the DA chapter upgrade frame comes with some legs as well a 5 marines for the incredible price of $16 (add to cart , why does this always happen?). I may just make another one for the GMS as I have most of the other parts available including a baneblade flamer. All I would need is some grot arms and I am sure I could shave a few skaven ones as they are the perfect size.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Okay, so if I bought 3 sets of DA vets, I would have 15 troops and could also make 3 iron grotz. Sounds like a plan to me!

The DA kit used to be even cheaper (why I have so many!) at $20 a kit, but the kit had double sprues! I think I got 4 kits (8 of the current). You'll need bases though, it has none.
And as to my large orders, I get a great discount from a guy i found, but only in large orders (smallest has been about $350 retail, largest close to a grand).

Post by: Commander Cain
Thanks for the offer of legs Gits, but I will probably buy the sets anyway as I already have one set from years back and a squad of 5 always looks a little lonely At WM, I am sure I have plenty of small bases lying around, I may have to look to ebay for some termie sized ones however. I do want to point out that I should the IG (decided against starting them at this time) and gave my brother the eldar. I also got quite a discount, that price was retail. Well, it has been a long time! What with all these commisions and other projects getting in the way, I have not had much chance to paint anything of my own until now. I went paint crazy this weekend and finished two termies (only two more left now!) and three guardsmen that have been sitting around for far too long. Anyway here they are
The termies have some battle damage that I may add to the rest of the squads as I quite like it! I also gave them glowing eyes as I found the faces a little flat. The assault cannon has some scorch marks from GW washes that I have never tried before, apart from that they are pretty regular. Just need to get some bases for them now.
And the other termie,
More source lighting,
And the imperial guard, this group who I have named the Artic Foxes as they originally came from an ice moon, although as you can tell from the state of their armour they are on a slightly muddier planet
The troops vary in armour darkeness to represent how long they have spent in service, ranging from almost 10 years to a couple of months.
Group shot,
The railgun wielding trooper,
(there is osl on the gun, it is just not visible!)
these faces are turning out pretty well,
A lasgun trooper with scope (taken from a SM scout)
The armour is SO easy to do! The trick is sponging on some charadon granite for the chips,
And I almost forgot this guy, a newbie into the ranks of guard as you can tell by his armour and the emerald eagle on his helmet.
I have put a symbol on his shouderpad but it was to complex and I think I will remove it. It was a claw holding a ringed planet.
*fun fact* I was painting the yellow stripes on the guys gun when I caught a whiff of the paint and thought to myself "it smells like Tau" Who else goes to war in yellow armour!? well, besides
Hopefully I can get one more guy painted up before the end of the day, then it is back to commisions!

Nice work my friend, love the termie with the assault cannon. I was just reminiscing with some new friends at Adepticon as to how when I first started playing 40k 20 years ago or so, a terminator with an assault cannon was a god on the battlefield. Great weathering on all miniatures. The Deffkoptas look like flying scrap metal, or in other words, exactly as Gork and Mork have intended. The assault cannon gunner is also my favorite. Not exactly sold as far as the Guard is concerned, but maybe that's because I think the whites and yellows make them firepower magnets. Too much olive drab and feldgrau for me lately!

Nice to see your own minis making an appearance again commander. The Termies are cool , and the guardsmen have some serious weathering going on. ( the rail gun is a nice addition too matey )

Always like grots, there's just something about em. The skin looks really good, but I think the weapons look almost too worn and weathered. I think the rock on the base should help balance out such a top heavy model

No, It's the MoO that does that. The officer of the fleet forces the enemy to -1 from his reserve rolls.

The mark of true offider material - he knows how to avoid getting too muddy in a field of mud
Looks good Cain, and I like the metal on the grot's stuff, nothing's too worn for greenskins.

Don't you hate it when you delete you whole blog post the second before it is finished. Yeah me too...
Okay, second try,
Got some command squad pics for you, still some guys to paint for this but here ae the ones that are finished.
Lord Commisar and banner bearer
Freehand banner, banner is from a bretonnian knight set. I coudn't stand the original metal duvet the poor guy had to drag around with him.
Psyker, and dude
And there ya go, all up to date! I even had time to tidy my gallery up as it was getting a bit disorganised!

Objective marker wip is up next, in serious need of painting tips for that!

I had to share this with the dakka community, I just could not resist. It seems that not even the Blood Angels death company are imune to the callings of nurgle. Behold, the mold marine! Super zoomy in the gallery Not quite sure how this happened, it was fine yesterday! Any ideas on how to save him from this taint? I really do not fancy throwing him out

Post by: monkeytroll
Wow, and he was fine yesterday? That's a mighty dose of something that Papa Nurgle's gifted him with. I can only suggest washing thoroughly with warm water/liquid soap, then sealing to prevent a re-occurence before moving on with the painting. No idea what would have caused such a quick spread on a painted mini though?

Were your fingers covered in grease (like, food grease) last time you handled it?

Post by: Commander Cain
I think anvildude must have the right idea, I must have gotten some food on him at some point. atm I am living in a rather damp gloomy basement until the rest of the house is finished. Perfect conditions for nurgle to corrupt my marines!
After checking through the rest of my collection, a couple of other guys have gone sightly fluffy though none as bad as this one.
Time for those guys to have a quick bath methinks, can't be having that stuff spread!

Or you could just start a Nurgle army. Do a Quick coat of clear spray-varnish, though- don't want to get sic!

it must be quite moist where you kept the poot chap. Why not let it grow for the sake of science (and my couriosity)? You can always clean him later.....

D00d, if I were you, I would scrub the place with bleach or something. That's probably not good to be living and breathing with whatever bacterial funk that is.

Tsk Tsk, Mr Merlin, you have woken my thread from it's deep slumber!
Fortunately for you, I was planning on updating it anyway
For those of you who are interested, the nurgle infection had spread throughout my marines, while I have stopped it spreading further (I hope) I will probably start the army afresh!
Here is the plan...
I am now left with a bitz box brimming with around $300 of marines, most unpainted or basecoated. I could choose to continue painting them as BA but seeing as I was planning on starting a pre-heresy army, I decided to go all out!
Alternate Future Thousand Sons!
Now we all know that they became followers to Chaos during the Horus Heresy, but what if the fates had taken a different course? What if this loyal legion had remained on the side of mankind?
I intend to construct a fairly large sized army of these chaps, using a blend of GW and FW armours and a variety of bits from other companies. I will probably make some of the better know figures in the legion such as Ahriman and Phosis T'kar, maybe even the primarch himself! (although I am not too fond of Mangus to be honest) I hope to have made some decent progress in the next couple of months but will really get into the swing of things after the new year!
I have already assembled a couple of guys and will be posting a big, pic loaded update tomorrow when I have some natural light.
Until I have got the necessary parts to construct the Sons, I have plenty more to do!
I recently purchased the fortress kit from Warmill http://www.warmill.co.uk/Fortress_Kit/p814918_3938335.aspx
It is a fantastic piece of terrain and I highly recommend it to you all! I will be doing a review of it as soon as possible. One of the towers is all painted up but there is a lot more left!
Remember this guy?
I have now finished basing it! Now all that is left to do is improve the paintjob... Darn perfectionism!
To go alongside the valk, I have finished painting the Aquila lander from the BFM set along with a GW bastion, as you may have guessed, I went on a terrain making spree a couple of weeks ago!
Sorry for not having any pics of this stuff, but just check back tomorrow night and there will be a nice chunky update for you all!

YAY! I was hoping this thread would come back, and glad you caught it before a Mod did.
That Fortress is WICKED and I so want one! Yes please do put up pics and a short review. Our newest interest is Planetstrike and I need buildings that are not blown up. The GW stuff comes to mind but this post reminded me that I should check what is out there before dropping the $$$.
Looking forward to seeing whatever you do next!

Thanks guys!
Here are the pics as promised, they are not as good quality as I had hoped, I set up my photo booth, turned around and the sun had gone!
Anyway, here they are!
BFM pylons, they only took me four years to get painted!
And the crashed lander from the same set...
More pics when they load!
Until then, here is the finished Warmill tower.
This next pic shows ,my experiments with FW weathering powders, there is some aged rust, light rust, bone dust AND moss green on it, Can you spot them all?
This thing was great fun to paint and very fast also!
Next up, some pics of what I still have to paint and the downed valk

I am a big fan of the alternate heresy armies. There was a campaign for them some time ago on B&C iirc.

Yeah, I have wanted to try something along these lines for a while now. I am not sure if I should use the Dornian Heresy fluff ( http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/heresy/thedornianheresy.pdf) or make my own? Ah well, I will grt to that when the time comes!
ps, Your marine is winging it's way to you Mr Whalemusic, I have no idea when it will arrive but it took weeks and week to get here so I expect it will take some time!

Seems to be hit or miss between Canada and USA, sometime takes a week, sometimes 3. Never know, lol. Looking forward to him, he and one from another dakkanaut will fill the 4 HW slots in my devi sqaud, and I even have a Sgt for them from another!
Thats the one I was thinking of. I hope you don't go the GK 1k sons route, seems a bit overdone now. Doesn't really seem your style anyways.
26800
Post by: Commander Cain
No I am certainly staying clear of the GK route, while it may fit for game purposes, I prefer to go my own way!
More pics for you guys...
What do you think of my new hardwood flooring? Pretty nice huh?
GW bastion (curses! I forgot to paint the bolter bits!)
There, that should sate you hobby appetite for a while!
I will update tomorrow with pics of the valk and super fortress, until then adios!
By the way, would you all prefer for me to start a seperate 1k Sons thread or mingle it in with this? I am leaning more towards making another blog just to keep things neat and tidy.

Post by: whalemusic360
Nope, dump it in this bad boy. More progress in few spots > fewer progress in more spots.
What colors did you use on the lander and the bastion? I want to avoid all my terrain being gray or black eventually

Its back from the dead.....Wicked stuff Commander , good and unusual colour choice for the scenery , really stands out . The Weathering on the warmill tower is just superb, tutorial would be good if you get time . and the crashed vehicles are equally great, wile your at it a tutorial for those lenses wouldn't harm either i know you have nothing else better to do
The thousand sons project sounds exciting , will you be doing the classic gold and blue ? or is there future a different colour . loads of cool stuff matey good to have you back posting again.

I really enjoy the weathering, dirt and gritty and abandoned.
What's your opinion of the Warmill stuff?
And I personally prefer different threads, keeps things more focused and you tend to meet different people that follow different things.

Post by: Commander Cain
@ WM, if I recall correctly, the basecoat was dhneb stone with heaps of browns added on after (the warmill tower got poster paints as they went on better). @Neil, Thanks dude! I will do some tuts when I get the chance I willl probably go with the pre-heresy red and gold to make them stand out better (and every marine in my army is basecoated red! ) @dstein, thanks dude! @Bloodaxe: I LOVE the warmill stuff!! It is so full of character and immensely fun to build, if you ever got one of those wooden dinosaur kits when you were little it was like that, execpt that the wood does not snap the second you take it out of the sprue. I will be doing a review as soon as I can for the general public! Also, I think I may do a separate thread, perhaps just showing off the finished guys in here but having a different progress log so that I can put the fluff in. Thanks for the continued support guys! I will try and get more piccys up tonight or tomorrow, keep you eyes peeled!

For those of you who did not know, my thousand sons blog is now separate. Link in my sig!
But that is not why I am here oh no...I have begun my painting extravaganza, seeing how much I can get done before Christmas!
I have had a Chimera sitting on my shelf since my last birthday and decided it was high time I did something with it. Here ya go!
I also converted a landspeeder up for my guard. Inspired by Ash1's incredible guard army, check it out, well worth a look!

*Brushes dust off blog*
Well, as some of you probably know, I have been tied up with my Thousand Sons for a while since I put them on their own blog. However, I recently built this cool Necron conversion that I just had to share. Hope you like him!
While I don't collect Necrons, I just had to pick up the Lychguard kit because it was just so full of interesting bits. If every get round to building the rest of them I will post them here!
I have also finished up a squad of genestealers (finally!) Still need to get pics of them though!
-Cain Automatically Appended Next Post: Hey! Never posted pics of the crashed valk.... Oops, next update perhaps.
