Well if the old rumors are true or not kruellah is dead in the fluff so maybe we wont see her in the codex? Or could be like eldrad

Hmm weird. Yea a lot of characters are long dead yet still usable. Fantasy Orcs have 2 or 3 in fact. Although these days the newer ones have less and less of that

Indifferent.

Although the potential for Schadenfreude is outstanding ala Blood Angels where the army goes from borderline terrible to "the army no one will play against because the studio swung too far to the right."

And please folks: Don't post Dark Eldar pics before Jes has presented them on GD UK! Jes was really angry the last time when Harlequin pics leaked the night before he could present them, a reason for this high security DE marketing.

Another tidbit by Harry:
Aly Morrison made the warriors hanging from the Raider. And there will be female Warriors again.

Jes was also mad about the "monkey nostrils" of the genestealers... but then again, they had monkey nostrils, regardless of when we saw them.

So while it is nice to humor the creator and not review things before they are "properly" presented, that does not mean that we should not post pictures and discuss them.

"Cause they're raping everyone up in here!"

Could not resist...Well if all this secrecy is because of what happened with the harlequins...someone's definitely sensitive. Yes, I can understand his disappointment but realistically hardly anything is kept under wraps anymore. I'm just waiting now for grainy out of focus pics from GD. However, I'd love to hear some more leaked info about new codex rules.

And what's GW gonna do about it? Not release DE, again?

How much more "secret" can GW get? GW's approaching the point of ridiculousness, if they haven't crossed that line already. I say, do it, just to see what GW's next step might be. If they have any sense, they'll give up on their stupid "secrecy" policy and just do regular informative notices like anybody else might...

IIRC, the irony of Jes getting annoyed over the Harli pics hitting the web was that they were pics GW had taken themselves, released ahead of time (or scanned out of a White Dwarf). So really - assuming I have remembered this correctly - he was getting annoyed at these pics for somehow showing off the models incorrectly despite being, essentially, publicity shots that were taken by the parent company.

Maybe Jes just didn't like their in-house photographer at the time?

AFAIK These are plastic toys, not homunculi spawned of some arcane and forbidden knowledge.

GW insist on making an official announcement only a week before the release and turn it into a big deal.
It just ups the ante and the paranoia that a leak will steal their thunder.
It also makes it ever more tempting for someone to show some pics for the kudos or just for kicks.

While I can see the reasons for wanting to reveal on Games Day, nobody but GW gives a toss about their petty parlour games.

They could have sprung a surprise announcement at last years Games Day that DE were to be released next year (ie 2010)
They would have still had the jumping out of the cake moment. We would be informed and every bit as excited in anticipation of the DE launch.

Not quite. The first pics that came out were at/from a trade show... in Germany IIRC...?... for retailers only, where the painted 'quin models were shown and there was, supposedly, an agreed n pictures policy which, obviously, wasn't kept by persons unknown.

Two things.

#1, You quoted MY post, not HBMCs

#2, You took it WAY out of context... if you go on to read the rest of the post (actually, its the NEXT FREAKING SENTANCE) you will see that I point out that in the "Grimdark future" they don't much care for gender roles.

Also, as a mythology freak, should you not also be upset that Incubi do not auto-magically get Sisters of Battle (and other female models) auto-preggers? That succubi don't have a way to force other male models to do nothing but sleep with them all game, until they eat their souls (o wait, thats what Wyches do currently... they bog down spes mehrens for a while...) or that Mandrakes aren't Trees, or that the 'Crucible' of Malediction is a Box that captures a psyker (much like something akin to what a Ghostbuster would use)?

Now, put all that "common-sense" aside and realize something else... The dark eldar don't care about our mythology, hell, they BARELY care about our language (I'm betting the ONLY reason they learn it is to taunt the Imperium of Mankind). Also consider this, as a human, there is a good chance that those things that you are reading about.. were named by humans (actually, more then just chance, if you read the 'fluffy' parts of most codexes, they will be in Imperial Remembrancer's (or similar Bureaucrat of the IoM) retelling of his encounter with the unit in question... odds are, that peed-in-his-pants-from-fear human put down whatever name he best felt described the horror in front of him... and when a bunch of Pikewielding space elves run at your with high-piched wails... you probably are going to call them banshees, wihtout checking between their legs. When a scantily clad group of brutally fast space elves, using what MUST be magic to increase their speeds (how is a human to know how/what eldar Drugs are/work) and their leader uses whips and "dance" in seductive combat, I don't think the IoM would punish you for calling them Wyches/Succubi without first checking the ENTIRETY of the Dark Eldar race for gender-matching....

As you can see, its not as clearcut as "Supernatural-wiki" may want you to believe, but even if you wanted to void out the above (which you could easily do). Fluff aside, it might just be because they wanted to have cool names... and the DE aren't the only place this happens

"Broadsides" are relatively small (especially when compared to things like, Superheavy Tanks, Titans, and the Manta)

"Rhinos" don't have horns.

"Chimeras" are hardly a hybrid (plus, for some reason, they are "amphibious" which is NOT a trait of the Chimera)

"Medusa's" don't turn you to stone.

"Hydras" don't regrow their weapons

"Lucius the Eternal" Doesn't have the Eternal Warrior special rule

"Trygon"s look (nor ACT) NOTHING like stingrays (other then the fact that both are capable of killing the Crocodile hunter)

The list goes on...

anyway, back OT: I will be rather annoyed if its just new models and not a new codex (or if they pull an "online codex" rehashing) thankfully, only a few more weeks to find out more info!

Surely GW won't pss up the opportunity to sell a ship load of cheaply produced books for 17 quid

Seriously it wouldn't make any sense and I assume the reason it has taken so long is that they have been writing a new codex

at the pub between rounds

on beer mats.

There had better be a codex, or the models will just be a waste of resources that could go to something else of similar importance.

They probably wrote it on napkins, and had to keep coming back later because they ran out of space so much.

relax, You still have Dundee (who, imho, is really the only person deserving of the title "Crocodile" Anything) and at least your celebs don't kill themselves whilst attempting self-erotica.

Also, in regards to the "Just releasing Models" I would be far happier with a simple "Model remake" as long as they don't try to BS the codex by doing a "5th Edition Update" like the ORIGINAL Blood Angels 5th edition codex... (Now, if they go the route of the second one, I will be happy!)

Pretty sure you saw it in the GW newspost.

I can understand why Jes doesn't want any images out there until he personally reveals them. If I spent that much time working on an entire range of minis that people are eagerly awaiting, I'd want all the fun for myself. From a personal standpoint it makes perfect sense. BrassScorpion wrote:As for some of the lore from which Eldar and Dark Eldar are derived: Far-Sídhe, male elf, Ban-Sídhe, female elf. In later times Ban-Sídhe got corrupted to Banshee and spirit lore from its original elf related meanings. Sídhe is pronounced, "shee". Some ancient people of the Isles, not knowing from whence the even more ancient burial mounds originated, believed them to have elves (Sídhe) living in them, also known as "fairy mounds", the Sídhe having been the mythological inhabitants of the British Isles before Celts migrated there from the Iberian peninsula. They also believed most of the Sídhe were gone because they had sailed west to parts unknown. Sound familiar? Tolkien based much of his Elf lore on the ancient Celtic mythology and so did GW. Methinks Far-Sídhe (Farshee) was the inspiration for the Eldar "Farseer" title too.

I want to also interject that the idea of the "elves" and "dark elves" have roots in Northern Germanic lore, as well. The vikings and such had their "Alfar" and "Svartalfar." The word "elf" is derivative of "alfar." The correct spelling of "alfar" should be more like "aelfar," as there is a letter that no longer exists called the "ash" that appeared as a combination of "a" and "e" in the Roman alphabet. It is pronounced like the "a" in "ash." Over time, the letter's pronunciation in "alfar" softened to the "e" sound in "get," and the ending was dropped entirely as most inflectional endings were dropped in the English language. This Nordic heritage also brings us "dwarves" from the "dvergar."

Would have thought elves more Germanic than Celtic
Though some similarities between the cultures exist.
As I mentioned earlier the Saxons referred to Elves. And given that Tolkein afaik based much of his studies in Saxon rather than Celtic literature...
