tipios wrote:Thanks Ouze I've seen your IW army and like it alot, the dread claw is a win What weapon are you gona put in the right arm? I'll try to finish this dread as quick as possible, but ATM I'm stuck on the plasma gun. I think the barrel looks too small. So I may need to make my own.
You know, it's funny, but I put rather a lot of thought into this very thing. I looked at the FW options and decided that the initial range weapon will probably be a plasma cannon. The lack of Gets Hot! on walker mounted cannons means it's a very solid weapon for many uses. I've already got the one that came with the Venerable Dreadnought, and it has the added benefits of a relatively long barrel and flat, unadorned spaces (it has some bling that should be easy to file\shave down.
Yeah the Venerable dread does have a nice plasma Cannon and it would be a solid base to build on maybe add some more armour plating and hazard stripe it up and add some more wires.
Thanks guys, i'm gona order one, and use the one i've already got for something else.

Here's another pic of nurgle arm.
I've changed the way I'm putting the termi body on the iron warrior, because with the normal face plate underneath it stuck out to far.
Changed the toes also, but now I think the feet look to small.
Absolutely awesome im glad i came across this thread it gave me inspiration for my three CSM dual close combat arm dreads im making. Very Awesome keep up the good work.
@hyena - thanks! You promoted Cathar the Great idea very well I was thinking of putting the flamer in the gap under the CSM torso, what do you think? Glad you like the nurgle paint job, I need to redo the legs to look the same now
@bigblackzach - thanks, post pics of your stuff if you can
Your dreadnought work is becoming ever impressive! I love that you have taken on the task of building one for each cult of chaos! Great work keep it up!
Thanks killmaim, no I have not touched the feet I think I'm gona leave, first I thought they were too small, but I think that was beacuse I was used to the big toe.
@Melkhiordarkblade - thanks, yes the plan is to make one for each, but ATM these 5 will have to do, I not allowed to buy any more models until I have finished the ones I've got.
@hyena - thanks, it took a while to think of something, but it worked out ok and with new plasma cannon coming tomorrow I hope to finish him off soon
The new Ven Plasma Cannon has come in, and I've done a quick mock up of how it will look on the dread.
I've left the sentinal plasma cannon in shot so you can see the differents, they are the same length but as you can see the Ven one is much bulkier
Side view, as you can see I've stolen the sentinal pipes, which help to fill the space behind the cannon.
I've pulled off some capacitors from an old circuit board, I'm gona try to use them to add so detail to the rear of the cannon, not sure how yet.
I've got a load of pipies from Zinge, some are metal and some a resin with wire in the centre so you can bend to any shape you want. The metal one are very easy to bend to so, they are gona be used to add more piping to the plasma cannon, agian not sure how yet
I did clear my workspace last week, but then during the night a warp gate must have opened, and messed it up again. Promise
The wings are getting gaps filled with GS, and then all the legs need the gaps filling, and then I need to do the sorcerers rode with GS. The problem with GS and me is I need to be in the right mood to do it, otherwise it all goes wrong and I get upset with it, sorry to those people wating for them to get finished
I understand! I am that way with painting! Painting, or even thinking about it fills me with dread! That reminds me, I have one I need to start painting tonight! *dread*
Unfortunately my wife has seized the dinning table back, for eating off of She attacked me with constant nagging, I had to yield After this weekends sunday dinner for mothers day is over I plan a sneak attack, slowly taking the table back with one model of a time
HAHA! I use the dining table too! of course, I have to clean it completely off every night! Puts a damper on "quick" jobs! Besides, if I leave stuff out on the table the cat will knock it off on the floor, and sometimes will hide things under the couch....so it's just easier to put everything away.
Fight for your space! Even if it's an inch at a time!
Someday we'll have a bigger house, and my very own room for crafts and hobbies! *sigh*
tipios wrote:Unfortunately my wife has seized the dinning table back, for eating off of She attacked me with constant nagging, I had to yield After this weekends sunday dinner for mothers day is over I plan a sneak attack, slowly taking the table back with one model of a time
Checking out the stuff I missed. Sorry to hear about the seizure of the dinner table. Hoping you get your space back before long. Tell her you have an adoring public that is clamoring for more conversion greatness!
Wow. I can't believe I only just found this thread. I love your work man; the Dreadnought's look great, so much different from the usual!
I can't decide whether my favourite is the Nurgle Dread or the Slaanesh one...
Your painting's as good as the converting too, particularly the weathering on the TS Dreadnought; beautiful. Well, beautiful painting, this is Chaos...
My one qualm would be that I think the Khornate Dreadnought would look so much better with a Juggernaut/Bloodcrusher head, rather than it's current. Otherwise, stellar work. Keep it up!
@JoeyHeadwounds - I'm still alive so, yey!! thanks, I seem to be ok
@skalk - I am surprised that I have not been to hospital because of a modeling mishap, what with all this choping up of stuff
@just dave - Thanks for the praise man, chaos dreads are so much fun to convert, I love it , Maybe the next dread I start will have the juggernaut head, I did buy a few with that in mind, but can't remember why I didn't do it.
Sorry to everyone waiting to see some finished jobs, I just have not got round to it. Although I started painting my nurgle, and was happy with the moss effect I was getting on the arm, I am not confident enough to do all the detailing, especially the face. So I need more practice with painting to finish that one. I am confident that I can do a metal look, so Iron Warriors is next to be done.
And today I got down to some battle damage, and some horns to cover up some gaps were the termie body is stuck on. The horns are from the new Storm of magic chaos sorcerer lord. I didn't buy him just for the horns I bought him to enter this compo http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/378516.page so they were just laying there on the table and I think they fit nicely.
Glad to know you're back on your feet and back converting amazing stuff again. I am running out of ways to say "wow that's awesome!" so instead I'll say that I really enjoy your conversions and always look forward to seeing more.
That is quite possibly one of the coolest dreads I have seen in a long time! Great use of bits and the bullet holes in the armour are a great touch. I really like the fact that it's not over the top and covered in spikes like a porcupine on steroids
I'm going for a really dark look on the Iron warrior. The heads gona stay black, right breast plate will have hazard stripes, trimmings will be gold, and SM armour will be yellow as they are parts from the IF.
I've tried adding to much paint on the left plate, which has started to make a nice weathered look. It looks like rust is building up in places.
That is going to look amazing painted the way you described! Are you going to keep the legs pretty standard or are they going to get the kitbash treatment as well?
Got the IF armour done today, first time to try layering, there's to much paint in places, but it's not to bad.
Also started hazard stripes on the front, not sure if I should try freehanding the stripes or not. Also I might try to free hand the fist on the shoulder armour. Do I need to do a white background or can I get away with just doing a black fist??
Anyone think I should do hazard stripes around the missile launcher too?? and should I do gold around the dread head or leave it??
The IW Dreadnought is shaping up nicely. Other good spots for hazard stripes would be on a leg and on weapons. I think gold would look good on the heads enclosure.
tipios wrote:@GiraffeX - do you think some spikes on the weapon arms are needed?
hmm they are a bit bland at the moment being imperial, not sure if spikes are the answer or not. It depends if your other dreads have spikes, as you wouldn't want too many with spiky bits otherwise they start looking similar.
Depending on your GS skills you could try doing the chaos star like on the FW chainfist on each shoulder, that would add a bit more colour to the model as well.
@Joe - hi, I use these now for rust-
Best results for the rust is just random stabs with the brush, also light dry brush over a silver base.
The yellow on the imperial heads, was base of Bestial brown, then kept adding Bubonic Brown, I didn't have Lyanden. I did this after watching this vid.
For the front plate it was Bestial Brown then Bubonic Brown.
Only just found this thread, these Dreadnoughts are great! I can see I've been wasting my money buying the FW ones - these conversions are much better. Particularly like the Nurgle one. Subscribed.
@tony_nids - thanks!! I know I should finish more of my old stuff first, IW should be nearly finished this weekend.
@Hyenajoe - Merci!!! Yes I got a dreadknight only way to get shuch a big kit into the flat was through my parents on my birthday but obviously he will be a follower of chaos I don't know which god yet!!!! maybe I should have a vote. I was thinking IW or khorn, the driver is going to be possessed, and the driving seat will not be a baby holder but a spikey type thing. Although I can't really start this until after the pimp sorcerer, and I want to finish IW dread so at least I have something to show, I think people are getting bored of just small updates of little progress Your dread is going to be mega when he's done, I would like to see what you come up with the on the base because I really need some ideas too
Wow modelling seems to be a good hangover cure but today I don't have camera until tonight, so progress shots later. I'm working to finish IW, I hope at least to have arms and legs primed by sunday, yey!!
Tipios! Glad to see you're back at it, I've been away for far too long, hopefully seeing your progress will inspire me...maybe.
I LOVE the IW dread! Freaking awesome! The Plasma Cannon is perfect! The yellow looks great too! Can't wait to see the stipes. I vote for Khorne on the DreadKnight, of course! Happy Birthday! Hope is was a good one...well, you got a DreadKnight, so I guess it was! Congrats!
Oh, and I don't know if I speak for everyone, but small updates from you are fine if that's all you have to show! If you added a new spike, I would like to see a pic of it!
Like the dread's, been following for a while and don't think I ever commented before.
My one comment is that the legs of the dread seem to be a bit bland by comparison to the rest. I'd be interested to see chains added, either like a chain loin-cloth lookin thing or just have chains added somewhere to the dread. Iron Warriors like their 'eavy-metal' look haha.
@Markillius - The legs are getting behind the rest of the build, but to be honest I'm not sure what to do. I may start over again, I really like the new FW ironclad feet, and may try to do something like that. I love chains too and will be trying to do the same as my first dread with chains on the back, also he will get them on his gun. I love your Iron Mongers custom chapter
One thing that I noticed from your pics of the plasma arm side is the word "INFERNO" upside down. You might want to cover that bit up with plasticard or put in some piping like your terminator lord. The head on the end is really nice and fits well.
tipios wrote:@Markillius - The legs are getting behind the rest of the build, but to be honest I'm not sure what to do. Glad you plan on using chains. Personal preference, any and everything looks better with some chains haha. And THANK YOU for the comment on the Mongers. Been looking your stuff over since before the chapter had a name. Your stuff really helps inspire customization and modding for me and a lot of other guys i know.
@GiraffeX - thanks again!! I've been trying to get a head on the plasma gun for a while, then it just cam to me, I just need to extend the jaw an it fits real nice. Still alot of clean up ork to do, so don't worry inferno will not be on the final product, but good idea, I need to fit more piping on the gun, and using the termi lord idea will work nicely
@markillius - I did think I commented on your Iron Mongers before but clearly I had not, fixed that now
Wow. Great stuff as ever Tipios; that Autocannon looks great and the Iron Warriors Dread is turning out really well; the plasma cannon arm itself is gorgeous. Can't wait to see more man. That guy may well become my favourite of your Dreadnoughts! Keep up the great work.
@just dave - Thanks alot!! thjis has already become my fav!!!
@theQuanz - thank you, the khorne dread is still the same ATM, because I have not finished off the autocannon ammo drums but with the stuff going on with thIW, he will be getting more details on the arms, with the hydraulic pistons
I had a skull and chain session this morning with the IW
Staring into the face of death
I've used all my chaos chains up without noticing of tp the bitz sites
Tipios, IW dread is looking amazing, but to me (and despite saying, "to me" I'll reitterate that this is just MY opinion) the horns on the face of the plasma gun don't work for me. I mean, they work. It's not like you made them out of plasticard, but the downward motion they create in front of those chains and spikes just seems like too much. Is it possible to cut them off and angle them upwards? I think that might make it look more balanced and more intimidating. Or could you even add a top horn or a row of spikes that run from its forehead to the plasma coils? Just a thought, it still looks totally badass.
@Moltar - I really like the way the horns are, it could be I need to move the chains and skulls, oooooooooooooooooooh it just thought as writing this, I could take off the horns and put the spikes coming out of the head!!!!! or even have the skulls hanging from the horns instead!!!!! wooooh, thanks Moltar, I've been sitting down thinking of what was wrong with it and your just triggered of a whole new angle, thats why I love posting as many WIP's as possible!!!!
Unfortunately I must go out now, but will have a go at it tomorrow morning.
Finally checked this blog again, and HOLY gak YOU HAVE THE SAME BIRTHDAY AS ME! Happy (late) birthday! I love the Dreadknight parts on the Iron Warriors Dreadnought. It fits really well.
@giraffexn - it's very tempting to drill all those holes on the exhaust, but it's just a plate that gose arround the exhaust and should not have holes that go all the way through.
@crazypsyko666 - happy late birthday to you too!!! and thsnks
Automatically Appended Next Post: After Moltar's comments on the way the plasmer gun was going, I've changed it abit. I really wanted the skulls hanging off the side, but they way I did it first had the hornes and spikes conflicting. I want the horns to stay, so this is what I've come up with!!!
Freaking awesome as always! Love the Head on the Plasma! I was sure you add one, I mean, like, why not? And that is a killer head! I like the way it ties in with the sarcophagus. Keep it up, Can't wait to see it all painted!
Ok as the theme for my flat tonight is tropical heat wave, all I could think about was flamers!!!!
I was trying to find a way of attaching a flamer to the left arm, my GKDK box caught my eye. Had to try this out!
Small update of right arm, he got another pipe
I think I would extend the flamer out abit to make it the same length as the plasma gun!!
Also I am thinking of scratch building some new legs, one which a more substantial, any ideas.
Can I have a vote on whether I should continue with the heavy flamer!!!
Siege hammer or Heavy flamer? Honnestly I like both...maybe the Siege hammer would fit the IW better.
What kind of legs would you like to scratchbuild? with more articulations? more armor plates? or just make your own armor plates instead of using those from the ironclad?
I haven't mentioned it before but I'm a huge fan of the job you've done with the chaos knights icon on the shoulder plates!
Hyenajoe wrote:Siege hammer or Heavy flamer? Honnestly I like both...maybe the Siege hammer would fit the IW better.

I agree, Siege would fit IW better.
I want more bulky legs I think, ATM the armour plates look funny half way up the leg, so maybe just building bigger armour plates would work. Although trying to make complete legs would be fun but I have no idea what to do yet!!!
Thanks, the chaos knights icons are very nice, I'm trying to buy more now for the rest on the dreads
Limbo wrote:That flamer is reeeeealy hot (no pun intended). You have to continue with it! How about making it abit like the Tyrant's Claw?
Thanks Limbo! do you mean make it look like the tyrant's weapon arm?
Moltar wrote:Tipios, I think the answer is obvious. You need both. Get them magnetized, bud.
If you HAVE to choose just one, I'd say go with the Siege Hammer, because I have to agree with Joe that it's more fitting for the IWs.
I think what will happen is I will keep the IW with the hammer, and make another complete arm, and maybe give it to the Slaanesh dread, or start a new dread altogether but what legion to do next??
Brother-Captain Scotti wrote:Been following this for a while now and these are fantastic! Partially inspired my to do my own iron warriors! oh and yes, go with a seige hammer
Thanks Scotti, seige hammer it is how did you get on with your own IW dread?
Thanks Joe Yes it's an autocannon I need to do more with the ammo drums, thats near enough what it will look like, but with some daemon heads Sorry for tempting you to part with your money how are the meeting going?
I finally got round to the Khorne Autocannon, the main thing I was stuck on, was filling the gap at the rear of the gun!
Re-cap of what it looked like many months ago.
Updated with DK parts, and dread engine plates to fill gaps.
tipios wrote:

The autocannon looks good with the dreadknight elements, but I feel there's something missing at the end of the tubes (not necessarily gargoyles but something like on the termies reaper autocanon (whithout the blade however)
IW Dread looks great! I guess I am too late, but I also think you should magnetize the flamer and siege drill! But as long as you are going to use the flamer on another dread, I can live with that. I just about crapped my pants when I saw the Khorne Dread update! LOVE IT! I want one now! Although, when I get around to making my dread I may use Forge World's new Contemptor Dread as an inspiration! I love them! Almost enough to shell out the money and actually BUY one! *gasp*
@joe - thanks, your right about the ends. I do have the too daemon heads that I was going to use before but they didn't go with the single head already at the back of the barrel. I don't have any tube thats fits now, so autocannon on hold again !!!!!!:(
@RSjake - Thanks I have decided to make another arm for the flammer, but I haven't decided whether to give it to the slaanesh, or make a new dread The new FW dreads are amazing, and I wouldn't mind 1 myself GiraffeX is getting 1 to convert into a khorne I think, check him out!!
Limbo wrote:That flamer is reeeeealy hot (no pun intended). You have to continue with it! How about making it abit like the Tyrant's Claw?
Thanks Limbo! do you mean make it look like the tyrant's weapon arm?
I'll leave that up to you, but what I mainly meant was a big claw arm with a inbuilt flamer. Don't know how big the claw would have to be to fit around that flamer, but I think it could look pretty epic.
More work on the dreadlord today. It took me longer than I thought it would to make the autocannon, but after aload of plastic grinding, and a superglue mishap I'm happy with how it is going so far.
Also I thought instead of hands, a couple of mega flammers would be more menacing
Now I need to think of a weapon for the left arm, plamsa maybe??
I see what you mean there with the plasma cannon. It does look a tad small, maybe throw another on there, twin-linked plasma cannon? Or you could upsize it to the Ven Dread cannon.
@alfhedil - I like the twin linked plasma idea, maybe I will get another sentinal gun and a ven gun and see what happens!!!!
Well, even after a days work there's still loads to do. Mainly I need to think of how I'm going to do the driver. I've got a FW dread head, that I want to use, so may need to scratch build a ven dread style front.
Oh yes that is looking really nice. I think maybe it needs to be a bit more enclosed on the sides but I'm really impressed so far
I was out most of Sunday so not much work has been done on the Contemptor, one of his legs is glued together now, I need to change the base a bit as the other leg isn't glueing very well to the rock due to the treads on the bottom of the foot. Some GS on the rock will solve this issue though.
@joshh - thanks man! I wanted people to vote for khorn, or Iron worriors. Only got 1 vote for khorn so far, but the way it is going I feel it more an IW, what do you recon?
@giraffex - thanks alot, yes I think I need to make new parts to fill the gaps, instead of using the DK plates
tipios wrote:@joshh - thanks man! I wanted people to vote for khorn, or Iron worriors. Only got 1 vote for khorn so far, but the way it is going I feel it more an IW, what do you recon?
I think it'd be really cool if you gave it to a warband, like the Red Corsairs. It'd be a different paint scheme and I think you could really add some details and colour to it.
tipios wrote:@joshh - thanks man! I wanted people to vote for khorn, or Iron worriors. Only got 1 vote for khorn so far, but the way it is going I feel it more an IW, what do you recon?
I'm inclined to go IW. It's so shooty that it almost has to be adorned in hazard stripes. The mask screams IW to me too. If it had a chainsaws for hands, then I'd say khorne. I can totally picture it, slowly marching, firing random rockets off, here and there. Burning anything too close to shoot a rocket at.
For the leg plates, have you thought about using the IG tank track guards that come on the IG tank accessory sprue? I'm not sure if they are the right size, but they have a very armored plating feel to them that's rivetted and not so rounded off like the NDK plates. It may provide a more bulky feel, though I'm not sure if that's what you're after.
Totally got rid of the baby cradle, and started building up the armour. The DP shoulder pad works nicely as a hood, Lamys terminators gave me that idea
Alot more work to do, the front peice will be lower, and I want to try to put vents down the sides where the gaps are. Then we can start adding arrows, spikes, and chains
Since this is going to be for Chaos chapter, you might want to fill in the "Aegis" and "Terra" and other inscriptions with greenstuff. Otherwise they'll look out of place.
It looks amazing tipos! The only thing I see that makes me look twice (and I've seen other people get chewed out for ) is the upside down writing under the head. Asided form that it looks great! I can't believe how well it all works together! I amy just have to go back and snap some bits off my dreadknight to ditch the baby carrier too.
@joshh - don't worry there won't be any words left when I'm done
@tony_nids - thanks, yeah the baby carrier is the only thing I don't like about the dreadknight. That and the fact it dosn't come with missile launchers Again all GK wording will be removed
@knightley - Thanks alot I've got defiler bitz to try on the legs, but I have not got down to them yet. I like the original leg plates, so might not change them, just add chains and spikes
@giraffex - Thanks mate!! Still got a long way to go before the amour is finished, but I'm very happy with the way it's going
@rsjake - FYI here's what a dread chain fist looks like on the DL.
@Knightley - here's what the defiler leg plate looks like.
I don't think it fits.
Ok, I've used defiler leg spikes on the shoulders and ankles, added smoke launchers and a banner like my IW dread.
and I think I've got the final pieces for the front
Wow. Dreadlord looks absolutely amazing. AMAZING.
The guns*, the armour, the chaos image are all awesome! I really love the addition of the horn on the head too!
Can't wait to see him painted up also; gonna be freakin' awesome(er)!
*I admit however, I'm not sold on the Cocket Launcher however...
You must be feeling quite smug and pleased with yourself right now as the DL looks awesome! I'd go without the defiler leg plates, stick to what you have on the other leg. Ass cannon - well they wont be sneaking up on you will they? (I'd keep it for novelties sake) Amazing stuff - keep it up
@just dave - Thanks I don't think there is enough cocket launchers in 40k I may have to steal you chained SM you've done on your landraider looks awesome, and have him hanging of the back.
Automatically Appended Next Post: @monkeyh - thanks, I am ultra smeg ATM, and I agree the defiler plate dons't work. I might magnatize the ass cannon
It looks good, but I have to ask, how does the Defiler leg plate not fit? Is it too large or small? Personally I like it better than the one on the other leg... maybe you could trim it to fit?
Other than that it just needs some arrows and if you're going to paint it up in Iron warriors colors, maybe some cog work...
The Defiler plate ruins the sleek look of it I think.
Also - so do the spikes you've put on the shoulders and ankles, to me they ruin the flow of the beast.. maybe angling them back 45 degrees or something rather than sticking out 90 degrees like that. (or maybe horns at an angle instead of blades?) either way it's such a sleek unit it should stay that way
Also ass cannon is a keeper, it actually doesnt look out of place xD
@JoeyHeadwounds - Thanks man. The plates fit OK, I just don't like them myself. I'm gona try and sculpt the IW skull like the one you've done on your landraider
@Ovion - yep the defiller plates don't suit it. I'm liking the spikes ATM, I have got horns to try out too. hmmmm every body seems to be liking the bottom cannon
I get what you're saying about the Defiler plates now... that they don't fit in with the rest of the model. Understandable, since it's mostly rounded.
And on the icon, it really helps to have an example to look at while you're sculpting... I personally work off of the picture of it as shown in the first volume of Index Astartes.
That dreadlord thing looks great! If it's anything like the rest of your dreads then it's gonna turn out awesome!
Only thing I'm not sold on is the neck/chin plate thing (gorget i think is the fancy term) The plate with the word 'MORTIS' on it, maybe shave it down to expose more of the rather splendid fez you have shoved in there!
Can't wait to see what you do with the gun barrels.
As for the ass cannon, well that gave me a pretty good chuckle!
@Leigien_zero - Thanks!! I want to shave it down until it meets the side plates, so that I can blend it altogether. Gun barrels are causing problems ATM :( because they are to close together. I've drilled the larger daemon heads to go on the ends but then I need to shave them down so they can fit next to each other. The plasma gun will get the defiler head like the IW dread.
I suppose it was rather rude of me to make such a bold suggestion as an ass cannon and then leave dakka for about 24 hours. haha I think it looks amazing tacked on back there. Let's you know that you can't sneak up on him. And it gives new meaning to the term, "Droppin' Bombs."
Also maybe just take 10-15 minutes with some greenstuff and fill all the upside-down and sideways lettering, imo it makes the kitbash and conversion more obviously a kitbash. if it wasnt for that, i would assume that the knight was an actual kit if i just saw it on the table.
Also maybe tone down the spikes a tad, but i like the skull post on the shoulders
Yeah, the chainfists didn't exactly work, but thanks for looking into it
I'm not sold though, I think you can fit some more weapons on there somewhere! Maybe next to the ass cannon? maybe some more launchers of some sort? Hahahahaha!
I kid of course, it's looking great! The spikes look good and the extra plates seem to fit well. Can't wait to see it GS'd up, and painted! Come on already Paint!
Ha Rsjake!! I need to paint my pimp sorcerer first, the deadline is end of the month!!!!!!!! There are some mega entries to the comp, and I've got no chance, but I really want to ge a good NMM gold on the staff and glowing eye. Then I can bring those new skills to this beast
Heck, we've already got a Steampunk Guard army; I'm working on Steampunk Orks... Maybe we should try and get a Steampunk everything! SoB would look great, I bet.

Only very small progress today!
The cradle harness has become pipes.
tipios wrote:@just dave - Thanks I don't think there is enough cocket launchers in 40k I may have to steal you chained SM you've done on your landraider looks awesome, and have him hanging of the back.
Make it slaaneshi and you're golden! It's my brothers models, so yeah copy it all you like!

Don't suppose you have links to these army's Anvildude?
How would you even start to model a steam punk marine, enquiring minds want to know more.....
Just check out some of Viktor von Domm's threads- he's the one with the Guard. Even has a Zeppelin.
I'm doing the Orks, and unfortunately don't have a camera. (or rather, I have a pair of Google Flips, but they only take video. Maybe I'll try to get a YouTube vid of my stuff up?) So far I've got some battlewagons, some boyz, etc. It's surprisingly hard to make Orks more Steampunky than they already are, but I'm trying.

tipios wrote:@just dave - Thanks I don't think there is enough cocket launchers in 40k I may have to steal you chained SM you've done on your landraider looks awesome, and have him hanging of the back.
Make it slaaneshi and you're golden! It's my brothers models, so yeah copy it all you like!
If I made it slaaneshi wouldn't I need boobzookaz hmmmmmmmm noooooooo I'm not doing it!!!
@bunnygurl - thanks, well to be far to you, I have only just started modeling again in the last month or so so there wasn't much to check out until now
I finally got some tape to do the IW stripes of hazzard today OMG I almost smashed the place up, because it took me ages to line the centre up ontop of the missile launcher, bit it is still a bit out
Ive been watching this thread for a while and i must finally drop a message saying keep up the awesome work must also say your dredlord is insanely epic
There is no shame in using tape when doing hazard stripes, and yours turned out really great! Just don't over do it with the hazard stripes, you got quite abit of yellow already with the Imperial Fist helmets
My tip of the day is get this rod and also the next size down. It meens you dont have to drill such a big hole, and then slide the next size rod over that. Also if you know someone with a lathe (or have one your self) get them to turn the rod to the legth you want, it's the best way to get a perfect edge.
That's a great idea with the two pipes. For cutting, I use a small clamp style pipe cutter. It's hand held and you rotate it around the pipe. Not sure what it's called, but it almost like a small C Clamp.

Why, you sly devil you! That makes perfect sense now! I would have saved alot of pain and blood if I had thought of that! Holding on to those gargoyle heads and trying to drill them out is horribly painful work! I need to find a small clamp of some kind, but every kind of clamp I have would destroy the head, a smaller barrel would make so much sense!
@rsjake - Even with this cunnig plan, I still have trouble drilling out too. When I first started I didn't have a problem but for some reason it is giving me loads of grief this time, I think before I use to start very small drill and work up. Now I use small drill then don't do as many steps up. For the clamp, I was thinking of sticking a head half in green stuff, so the clamp would be hte same shape as the head, and not crush it.
That's a great idea for the clamp, but you would go through a lot of GS...but it may be worth it. Well, it's good to know the master also has problems for time to time!
Lol glad you got the tool! I'm waiting on mine. It's at home, but waiting on my roommate to bring it down for me.... unless I can't get someone to pick it up for me sooner haha.
@Giraffex - Markillius08 found them, but yes I hope it will be very helpful in the making of dreads There are smaller plates so you can make small pipes for marines too, it even does ropes somehow
Awesome! I might have to look into those! I imagine the ropes would come from turing the plates at right angles to each other, and setting the GS at a 45 degree angle, and then rolling the plates, I could be wrong, but it feels right. I watched thier video, and it looks like you could get very tiny pipes and hoses depending on how thin you rolled the GS. Very cool!
The GS pipes look really good. The tools you've found look ideal, I've been in need of something like them for ages. Will definitely get some. Good find.
Edit: Nevermind I just read the blog and got to now know that its a siege ram.
Well done design on that ram, in fact the whole run is pure spark of genious and patience.
It's actually three different sizes of this tool, that come in a set for 20€. It was developed by Stefan Niehues, the guy behind masqerade miniatures, whom I met on a sculpting workshop from Badsmile last year, nice guy, great sculptor. The tool is super awesome, not just for tubes. If you're a little creative you can make all kinds of nice stuff with it. Vials, filters, rods, handles, whips, tentacles, infinite possibilities!
For the front I would use the plates you get in chaos tank kits. I used the one with the writhing face for the front of my converted dread.
Edit: Turns out that was on the first page, whoops
@Kepora - For one of these I only trade is souls!!!
@marmaduke - Thanks, he's already been recruited by the Iron Warriors
@Moltar - I'll take that as, I should go ahead and do it
Ok, I'm still upset about not getting all my bitz to finish the IW legs but I've change the one leg a bit! now he has a knee cap and an ankle joint, also I've kept both the original leg pipes.
codex grey saves the day!!!
and here's a hight comparison.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Ok a quickly tried away of adding the upper plate, a simple turn it upside down only thing is these are the only 2 Iron clad plates I have, so more ordering to be done
I think it looks OK. For the feet I am going to try and use the original dreads pistons attached to the sentinal foot up to the ankel.
Progress is very slow ATM, because I'm helping my dad paint his house.
I'm still working on the IW leg, deciding on how to do the pistons, and gona change my mind on the lower armour plate. I think some thing smaller would look better!!!!
I have to agree with Matt, I think it looks really nice with the identical but inverted plates. Hopefully you can find more ways to make the Dread look less top heavy. Keep up the good work.
Do you still have the IronClad Assault plates?
if you do they should be long enought to go knee to foot, then if you either cut one of the current leg plates to add to the sides of the launcher plates.
Man that's a shame! Your work would look incredible on a table top!
When you have a game on a fully modelled and painted board with two fully modelled and painted armies it really brings home the whole spirit of this hobby! Well, for me anyway!
I think it's because when I was about 10, my parents bought me space hulk. We set it all up, looked great, then started to read the rules, and put it away So I never got into it really, I still loved the concept and bought some models. NOw I just play DOW much easier
GF9 do a very good mixed pack, too, though not cheap. Hobbycraft are selling all GF9 at 20% off just now - and indeed sells rod too. Mail order, try Static Games in Glasgow, my FLGS. They're good lads, and that. Btw, legs gonna get beefier on that bad boy?
Yeah I'm trying to beef up th dreads legs, and I want to try and make more of my own bits, so I don't have to really too much on buying bitz, and then them not being right:(
I just checked them out, and I saw the rounded ones. THe shape might work because at the bottom it curves up where the foot would be thanks for pointing me in that direction
I think the IW legs would look good with a small plate of some sort on the knee joint, and a larger, separate plate for the shin. You could probably make it out of plasticard. Something like this:

Looks like the lower plate could possibly be easily made from a cut down Defiler armor plate.
