There were some combinations in the armybook that were horrendously underpriced for what they did (mostly revolving around Nurgle daemons). It was bad enough that after its release, you'd see
easily over half of the top placements in tournaments be held by daemons (for example at a DragonCon tournament a few years ago, daemons held the top 3 and a total of 9 out of the top 16 slots), with the remaining fraction split between Dark Elves, Vampires and everyone else.
Striking in initiative, stepping up, steadfast, and the changes to Fear have all taken a lot of the wind out of their sails, in that they are now in the middle of the top tier, rather than being a tier of their own.
