First of all, no one is making you open this thread. The title is VERY clear the content of the thread.
Secondly, you have already informed us your opinion on the show and it's fans, there is really no need at all to reiterate yourself. Your point was made, let us all move on.
Lastly...that is Princess Celestia. Good for you, mate. (Not Sarcastic)
Huh, I'm Spike. Not what I was expecting... but that is still awesome.
I want to thank you all for being the final straw that made me watch ALL of season 1. I'd watched one or two episode here and there, and thought it cool, but you made me watch them all in order.
Now, I'm buying a flock of GW Pegasi to paint like my favorites from the show... Fluttershy, Derpyhooves, and Rainbow Dash are of course in the flock, but who else should be included?

Anyway, that video is safe, just jesting at the nature of "furfags" as apposed to "furries" in pony form.
Are you referring to the spoiler I was hesitant to open?

That is 30% of the reason for me. Although it 100% completely inspired me to contribute to the memes. ALA videos and photoshop. I've made one of Scout from TF2 crying over rainbows that Dash made. Good stuff.
Well, I bit the bullet and watched the first episode.
Not bad, for a kid's show. I now want to see a grimdark adult version where Nightmare Moon takes over the world and attempts to crush the ponies into submission, but I always want to see grimdark'ed version of kid's stuff. I don't know why. It's probably also the reason I preferred the Saturday Morning version of Sonic the Hedgehog over the weekday morning version as a kid.
From what I'm reading, the creator actually embraces the fact that adults like this show and gives them subtle nods from time to time, which is cool.
I'll probably watch the second episode tomorrow since I just realized I missed the first half of Breaking Bad. For some reason I feel strange from going from "pastel coloured little girls' ponies" to "The dad from Malcolm in the Middle cooking meth and dealing with violent Mexican drug cartels".

To be perfectly honest, the first two episodes are probably the weakest in the entire season. I still like them though. Episode 9, Bridle Gossip is certainly one of my favorites.

Yeah, the first episode was basically backstory, "lol Twilight Sparkle wants to be all srs bzns and study and stop Nightmare Moon but the other ponies want to do whatever it is they do, hey, viewer, now you know the personality of each pony, uh oh here comes the bad guy just like Twlight thought dun dun dun!" but that kind of very belabored introduction is pretty standard for a kid's show, I'd think.
RatBot wrote:From what I'm reading, the creator actually embraces the fact that adults like this show and gives them subtle nods from time to time, which is cool.
Correct, in fact alot of the "Fan Art" out there is hers.
A bunch of the stuff the fans have been put out there is going into season 2
Derpy Hoves is actuly suposed to be rounded out.
I'm sorely tempted to start playing 40K again and actually do an "evil pony" mono-Tzeentch daemon army.
Think about it; Nightmare Moon as a Lord of Change, regular ponies could be Horrors of Tzeentch, unicorns could be Flamers and Pegasi could be Screamers.
Eh? Eh?! Brilliant, no?
And I can just imagine the srs bzns neckbeard rage when I set this army on the table.
I've never tried to sculpt anything before, though, so this would probably not end well. I would also need a truckload of 28mm scale equines.

While being extremely diffi'colt', that would be unbelievably awesome.
Ah, man, I just remembered the good pony deity is Princess Celestia. St. Celestine? PONIES OF BATTLE!? To fight the Ponies of Chaos? Don't know much about Sisters so I don't know what equines could count as what units. Also there's vehicles. Might not work as well.
I just googled it. I don't know if I want to ruin the surprise, but I'll say it's a Creepypasta and is SFW, though if you're literally at work, use headphones.

I read the first few posts on this thread and was already laughing. I couldn't be arsed to read more than 3, but if the pattern continued, I just want to say that Chris, you set yourself up for trolling. Way to take it like a man, though.
I actually heard about this fandom of 'bronies' on wait wait don't tell me, and at first, I was like sounds like a branch of furries. But then they brought a bronie on to interview him... and it didnt sound that weird. Seriously.
This show seems... strangely... hypnotic... sorta like this?
Spoiler:
I saw one episode with the 'weird uncle' of the familly and his two stepdaughters, and it does kinda suck you in... I just have to ask, are they are female? If so... I'll leave that stone unturned.
THIS, however, THIS would be enuf to make me watch the show forever:
Sorry it looks so small; it was the only one I could find.
But yeah, I don't want to hate... or really encourage this. I kinda have to take a neutral stance.
I mean, everything's weird to people who dont do it, right? Like, say, 40k. Or Kwanza.

I don't believe I've ever heard of that episode. Are you sure you weren't watching the first generation?
Also, there are male and female ponies.
A nuetral stance is appreciated : )

I've only watched two episodes, but no. So far there's Big Macintosh and the ponies who pulled Twilight's chariot who were expressly addressed as "sirs" and seem to be the same as, or similar to, the ponies who attempt to defend against Nightmare Moon when she showed up (and were swiftly defeated with little effort). Equestria appears to be a strongly matriarchal society where male ponies are not prominent in any area other than the military, and otherwise seem to be relegated to manual labor.

Well, I did qualify my statement with "male pony". But even then, Spike is, so far, nothing but a glorified e-mail terminal. Not exactly a prominent or important member of equestrian society. Then again, I'm under the impression that he is also a child.
As an aside, I find I can watch this show without feeling self-conscious... except during the theme song. During that 30 seconds or so, I am painfully aware I am watching a ridiculous show for little girls and wonder "What the hell am I doing?" and then as soon as the show starts again that feeling immediately ends.

Anyone else feel like that?
That's exactly what I posted a long time ago, haha.
And really, it's only the 5 second "My Little Pony, My Little Pony...ahhhh-aaaahh-AAHHHH!" That makes me feel bad. Right after that...it's just like anything else.
I do not watch the show, however, I played with the toys when I was 6-10.
I have very recently looked at the toys, and found that I like Rarity the best just based on toy. She has the perfect hair colour to be in a Slaanesh army, and a Horn!! That and it utterly disturbs an opponent. What more could I ask for.
Also, PonyVille sized ponies are perfect, and less expensive stand ins for Fiends of Slaanesh. I used some full sized ones too. Here is a picture.
There are some incredible 8bit renditions of the other notable songs as well.

Applejack, Cheerilee, Rarity, (The Great and Powerful) Trixie
I don't think that Twilight is actually an INTP, as she seems more of an INTJ to me, but I guess they had to fill the quotas and she's a nearer fit than anyone else.
I don't think there are any INTPs in the series, as far as I've seen.
I got Spike (the little purple dragon guy) on that personality test.
I can see the appeal of the show and don't understand the vitriol towards it. My girlfriend loves it, and I guess I'll watch some episodes with her in October.
Pinkie and Rarity are actually probably my least favorite ponies so far.
Rainbow Dash and Shutterfly own face.
I did read a fanfiction called "Cupcakes" about Pinkie Pie, though, and her secret cupcake recipe. Ah, the things people will do to an innocent children's show. SOYLENT CUPCAKES IS PONIES!

I think I like all the ponies equally. Everytime I try to pick a favorite, I fail. It isn't Pinkie Pie, though. I do like her, she's funny, just not my favorite.
Appears I am Fluttershy. Huh. Guess that fits pretty well... My favorite is probably Applejack though, mainly because her accent.

Whereas on 4chan you're kind of expected to be a typical internet donkey-cave and anyone who shows weakness is torn apart, it appears on Ponychan you're expected to be civil, even sensitive. Perhaps that's part of the appeal of bronydom for some people; it allows young adult males, who are typically expected to be tough and detached, to be emotional and sensitive in an environment in which no one is going to question their sexuality in an abrupt manner.
Quick, someone call a doctorate of psychology/sociology student!

I don't see a problem with watching the show. There's too many internet trolls out there that love to cry "furry" about everything. Just because you're watching a show with pseudo-anthropomorphic animals does not make you a furry.
Now, I spend entirely too much time on the internet and know waaaaaaaay too much about various memes and strange internet subcultures. Furries are weird in my opinion, but they get a really bad rap due to the yiff crap that is out there. Not every furry is into the sexual aspect of it and not everyone who watches a show with anthropomorphism is automatically a furry. Even if you are, is there really something wrong with that?
Just because hentai exists does that automatically make every fan of anime a pervert? Not to mention the obscene amount of fanservice and perverted old men characters that exist in certain anime/manga. If you have an issue with sexually questionable animation and you're upset with MLP you're barking up the wrong tree. Anime/manga is infested with scantily clad school girls. Comic books are full of scantily clad heroines with massive busts and beyond skin tight pant suits. The simple fact is that MLP:FiM is the best western cartoon to come out in several years. If you exclude the adult/teen shows (South Park, Family Guy, etc) it's the best to come out since CN's golden age when they had shows like Samurai Jack and Dexter's Lab on.
I suppose you have seen the PonyCraft 2 Trailer? When I saw it, and noticed that it was Fluttershy who was Kerrigan, I thought of this...
Ponycraft 2: Heart of the Herd. After being betrayed by her allies, Shyra Fluttiegan was twisted by the terrifying ParaSprite Cutiemind. Now, with her powers stripped and her mind finally free from the ParaSprite influence, how much is really left of the pony who once was Shyra Fluttiegan?
Characters: Applus Findjack, Shyra Fluttiegan, Prince Raretian, Rainborus Dengsk, General Warpield, Twim Sparklor, Spike Horner and Zecoratul!

Agree with everything but this last part. Avatar: The Last Airbender was an amazing series and it came out several years after Samurai Jack and Dexter's Lab. Despite it's somewhat anime-ish appearance, it's a western show.
Of course, it's a more concentrated over-arching/epic storyline than most shows, so I'm not sure it's a fair comparison. Either way, I'd have to give it props even over MLP:FiM, even if it is a somewhat apples to oranges comparison.
Hmm... I just dreamt I sat with my friend at a lake, when his parents (who didn't at all look like his actual parents) and his sister (in reality he doesn't have a sister at all) showed up, and sat down with us. I don't exactly remember what we talked about then, but thenhis mother said his sisters name in a question - "Pinkamena Diane Pie, what are you talking about?". Note however that his sister in the dream wasn't pink at all, and certainly didn't look like a pony. His sister then said "If you're going to call me that I won't talk to you. My name is Pinkie Pie!"
So, as it seems Pinkie Pie is his sister in an alternate dimension..? Or to the very least, that if he would watch it, Pinkie Pie might become his favorite?

Don't you know brother? Everytime a lame pun is posted a pony starts to worship Slaanesh. At this current rate, Twilight Sparkle might end up like this:

Though, MLP:FiM has already done quite a lot puns (Manehattan the most obvious), so then probably all six main ponies would look slaaneshi already, right?

They probably would. A slaaneshi Rarity would look interesting or a tzeentch Pinkie pie (Just as pinkie planned). Interesting and heretical. As such, I do not have the pictures of the others corrupted by chaos.
Why is there so much pony art? It comes out almost every day. Not that it is a bad thing.
I am not quite willing to pay the $5 per used via ebay, since they are only like $2 new.
I need them!!!!
The problem is the toys you linked there were the McDonald's Happy Meal toys. So, they're not carried by stores. The 'standard' toys are sold in Targets, Toys R Us, or wherever else you buy mass produced kids toys.
The happy meal toys had stranded hair as tails, with molded manes. Similiar, but not the same.
The smaller g4 ponnyville ponies have molded tails as well, and are the ones being sold in blind bags in Europe. As well as singlly in hanging retail packaging.

MLP Punk Rock Coverband!
If I ever learn to not suck at guitar, get some home recording equipment, and figure out how to growl properly, I would seriously contemplate doing a death metal cover of "Giggle at the Ghostie."
The best things in life are free
But you can keep 'em for the birds and bees
Now give me cupcakes (that's what I want)
That's what I want (that's what I want)
That's what I want (that's what I want), yeah
That's what I want
When I became a brony, the entire first season was already released.
If any of you guys are old school bronies...how long was the wait between new episode intervals?
It's about a week. I became a bronie about halfway through Season 1 so I heard that early episodes were every other week, but once I started watching it was about an episode a week.

The point I was trying to convey, was that he was implying that the rest of Dakka should hate our presence here.
I've never been good with words.
Discrimination is not tolerated on Dakka. If a person implies it and it is offensive, we do have the Friendship Triangle that helps make friends with Moderators for the offenders.
I personally think the way that picture is drawn in bears a tiny feel of the previous MLP series (i.e. MLP equivalent of the 40k Dark Age of Technology)... Also, I believe Fluttershy is far to shy to pose herself like that

Do explain WHY this thread would get watched by the FBI? It's not like we're watvching it BECAUSE little kids watch it. If that was the case then we'd have a problem.
We watch it because it's a well made show and is very entertaining for both young and old alike.

I'll say it again, since it was apparently overlooked the first time:
1. Lauren Faust has stated several times that the show was not designed just for little girls. The show was designed for young children (of both genders) AND THEIR FAMILIES. I felt the need to Billy Mays that last part since it is so often overlooked. Here it is in her own words:
2. There are, as I have stated before, numerous references in the show that a year or two year old child would/could never get:
a. The monolith reference to 2001: A Space Odyssey
b. The "build a replica of the city over there!" reference to Blazing Saddles
c. The troubles with Tribbles / gremlins reference
Or you can just keep on blindly judging, whatever floats your boat; I'll enjoy the show either way.

Hai FBI!
How ya doin?
Pretty good. It's getting quite boring, really. Would one of you mind confessing to a child abduction, or something?
Welcome to Dakka Dakka!
Don't you know that pretending to be a child is more effective then asking people to confess?
Hmm... Good point...
