You'll have to do a close up pic for me in your Ork thread - my quick perusal of your gallery only tuned up a Flashgit without eye gear, and it looked red to me...
I have some Nobz with eyes like that (painted by a friend) - but I find them too human looking - whereas I find the red more alien, with an evil cunning feel. Easier to paint too!

concerning the contest, I would like to pull a small switcheroo: Considering the amount of work and RL related stuff right now, I don't really see myself getting the Termie Lord I originally wanted to enter into the contest finished in the alloted timeframe. And since the model will end up serving as my supreme Chaos Lord, it's really not a paintjob that I would want to force under pressure. So if it's all the same to you, I am instead going with this guy:
I've started painting just the basecoat tho, But I'll post a finished WIP pic first then when I have chance take and upload pics of the current version.

I'm gonna have to withdraw from this I'm afraid. Truth be told I forgot I'd pledged a model to this and I'm now a few hundred miles away from my hobby gear for the next week so won't make the deadline. Sorry panda

no problem! Their is always next round! glad people are honest... i dislike the one shows. Keep going people not much time left, its getting down to the wire.
HAZZER wrote: Can we extened it a week please? I've only got the basecoat done atm...
Hmm.. you got till the 28th? is that not enough time?
No not really; I will get some done on mon and possibly on the weekend but apart from that theres still alot of stuff left to paint. i.e the rest of the armour, face, ammo pouches, battle damage, gun/boinic leg, hair and basing. A week or more would be grate and a few people who hav droped out may be able to join back in as well. So 1-2 weeks may mean alot more entries also it diddent help I only saw this mid/start of feb.
Oh Hazzer you are seriously your age, or lack thereof! Look up 'Weird Science' on this magical thing you kids have called the Interweb.
Sincerely,

Well I feel I am going to not change the dead line, others have already completed under such constraints. And painting is the winning *NOT* factor. Hazzer, god speed, unless everyone says otherwise
HAZZER wrote: Then I will start a Round 3! Papa and Panda's Competition: The Hero Round revolt!!!!
sounds like round four to me! haha. Seriously though, if everyone, including the already completed entrants, want to allow the extension, than i will. This isn't up to me, this is up to the group as a whole. Until more speak up, i have to leave this as it is. To be fair. I suggest pm'ing people hazzer, get them to post.

Well, I am really surprising myself here, but I am still in the game! Here's a PIP picture of my counts as Dark Apostle for my World Eaters:
Still some work to do on this guy, but I am getting there.
Regarding a possible extension, I'd be happy either way. I'll definitely finish my entry until the regular deadline, but I would be okay with extending the deadline a week as well.
I'm ok with an extension.
Anywho, here's my near complete model. my other model suffered from BBS (Broken Banner Syndrome), so I'm painting up him instead.
He's almost done, just sprucing him up a bit.
Cool with the extension as I have been unexpectantly delayed by XCOM: Enemy Unknown... (I still think I'll make the original deadline - or will still attempt to do so )

Despite a crazy work schedule that dropped me off the face of Dakka, here is my conversion progress update, a week to get it painted? No Problem!
This fig is an update to the original idea of the fig. Now that all my nobs and bosses are ogre sized or bigger the lil ol orkuisitor needed to become HERO sized!
I'm also happy with the extension it would be a great shame to see those great models not have the chance to shine as they should. Keep up the good work.
Here's what I have so far:
This isn't my final entry, just wanted to try out the upload process and taking a few sample shots of my work.
By the way, how are we to submit or pictures? Do we just upload them onto the gallery and link to it?
Seriously, get's the paints and then rain so I have to paint my herald black by hand and have a higher chance of ruining the details... Sunshine state my

Hello, Welcome to climate change, the media calls it global warming, i call it new weather systems. Just spray indoors? I suggest using a box and by a open door.

Too afraid to spray indoors, I'm not really the most accurate with a spray can
Looks like he rain is easing up, though, so I should be able to get started this afternoon.
My army's supreme commander, a Master of the Forge, converted from a spacemarine, two plasma cannons and bits from the Tactical Squad and Devastator kits. My first completed miniature and a lot of fun to do He still needs some work (weathering and two sevo-skull sidekicks) but considering I need to do another 900 points of SM it'll take a while for that to happen. I kind of put the rest of my army on hold to finish this dude.

I know it says unfinished on my blog, but I've worked a bit on him and in the end he looks better that way, the only difference right now is that his pistol barrel broke.
Edit: He's Captain 5-6-01 leader of the 6th Company of the 5th Krieg Regiment (even if I use him as a Grenadier Watchmaster right now), his fluff is that he started the Siege of Vraks as a (Grenadier!) Watchmaster and survived the 16 years long fight, till his regiment and company were moved away, and he's been promoted to Captain and given the leadership of the 6th.

Here's my finished entry. Looking at the close ups there's quite a lot of stuff I could work on, but unfortunately real life is about to get in the way as I have to leave for work shortly, and I'm not going to get a chance to do any more before wednesday.
WIP spoilered as I posted it earlier in the thread.
Well damn the extension, it only managed to make me lazy Anyway, just wanted to say that I am still 100% in the game! Finished model will be posted on Wedneday at the latest!
As for the finished models so far, Great work, people! Especially love the concept behin the "DA-Ork"!
Stupid electricity in the house has been going in and out all day. Took some photos outside, finally. Gave up on the light tent...
Here they are:
Phone camera doesn't do the figure justice so when the electric finally settles down I will retake. These will have to do for our little competition though.
WIP from earlier:
Spoiler:
~Eric
Edit:
Just so its clear, he is based on a 25mm clear circular base. That is how I intend to base all of my skirmish figures from now on. Hope I don't get dinged for that.
Well, I'm looking forward to the awards ceremony - got my suit pressed and collar starched - just need to work out how to tie the bowtie... Do we get to bring a +1 to the shindig Panda and who's the host / hostess going to be - someone famous I hope?
Well awards will be held in Socorro New Mexico, Buy yourself a plane ticket. As for finalists, and winner. I need about 72 hours. I have a dozen or so judges to get to evaluate.
Err, I might just watch the live feed then - I can just about afford a tank of petrol to get me to work and back, not sure I can stretch to a transatlantic flight :(
72 hours heh... The tension is building on Dakka...
Sorry for this, reposting the actual pictures of my entry instead of just a link
they're spoilered because it's a lot of angles and I didn't want to take up an entire page with one post
KrautScientist wrote: Could we perhaps get a single post with all the entries that are actually in the contest in it? I'd really like that!
This... Is a rather good idea, although I've already seen everyone. It'll be nice to take a look again at the entries I'll be standing amongst! I rather enjoyed watching the progress that everyone has made, and I must honestly say that everyone has amazing entries!
I also wanted to see the entrants in one place, I hope Panda doesn't mind but I took the liberty to pull a finished shot and a WIP together for each entrant into one post... Have also included the nearly completed, although if I missed anyone out let me know and I'll update accordingly... I count 24 entrants...
So, without further ado and in no particular order here they are... Enjoy... :drum-roll:

Wow - some quality competition when you see it all in one place like that! Congratulations everyone - you're all winners! I don't envy the judges at all Also - with such a great turn out, well done to Papa and Panda for organizing the competition and inspiring us all!

Well hot damn Reguld! your amazing, i was just about to start what you had already done! Thank you. But dont think this gives you any cutting edge in the compotition. :F
Evny the judges? naw we have it hard right now.. Results are being compiled. And the trophy?! Well i have it, but it is kinda lame.. And i want the contestant who wins it to reveal it. So i hope viks blood pressure can take it.
And really! thank you all.. this is huge! last comp we had six entrants! this is just huge. I am seriously bursting with excitement and happiness that so many competed. SO MANY COOL ENTRIES AT THAT!
i do hope you will all compete in round 4, and continue to compete. To strive in a active dakka crowd. But before round 4! judgement must be bestowed.
LOL, no worry Panda, I was just sitting here watching the last in the series of Top Gear and thought I'd compile the list as you guys have enough on your hands with judging...
It's great to see this turn-out and the amazing skills, both modelling & painting on display. As Arakasi says, congrats to all no matter who wins

Interestingly I was watching that on netfix as I was painting my entry... and Yep It's as "finished" as I can get it with my skills at the moment. Not sure why the 2nd Pic is showing as broken though.

Indeed.
No worries Galorn, I've put you in the entrants (up to 24 finished now!) and fixed the broken WIP image- not sure what was going on there...
Top Gear was great, so sad that the series is finished now :(
hehehhe... the results will actually be delayed 24 hours.. I regret to inform you. But a brawl in the judging chamber has started.. chairs are being used now. even as i type this i am fighting. Their is super heated debate over who gets first.
that and a judge has gone ghost on us.. So i want to be sure everyone is fairly judge, so i can compile the meta scores.
To the rest of you. Thank you much! the comp is great, but stick around for the final hour. All the entries are so hard to judge! many of you are just a tad behind third! Luckily the guns are locked up.
And to Viktor i am sorry, you came very close to third, but your luck ran out on the last batch of results.
The first two who are tying for 1st place have already taken the top 2 spots (First and second), and there can only be one winner from the third so shouldn't there be only a total of 3 "tying" for the first spot? After deciding who gets first, the second and third should be chosen in order, but there should only be a pool of 3 no?
Everyone deserves to be proud, what is nice is that those who didn't get passed (like myself) know that the next time a painting comp turns up you can up your ante on your painting/ modelling skills. well done to those who have passed now we really get to the nitty gritty xD
Remember people. If you wondering by your surprise painting was the deciding factor for this juding. I couldnt stress how it wasnt going to give you the easy A, but it does help.
The main factors looked for in this comp is coolness. Now coolness is very hard to judge, and also crafting. How much effort/secondary stuff not out of box went in to it. Which is why some of you may be confused or dishearten. In truth all the entries were fantastic in their own way.
First place goes to
Excellent work, and by far coolest monster we have in the running in the judges opinons. I swear the ork players were not basis. Infact they went for other things.. the marine ones well we all know marine players.
Ramos Asura:
Second Place goes to Ruglud:
With the excellent marine entry.
Third place goes to inmygravenimage
With the excellent power effect!
Sorry to all who lost. Don't lose wit. This was incredibly hard to judge. Every entry was loved. With split hairs in scoring.. seriously... .001 difference on some. Round 4 is coming! As for the first place winner. There is a silly trophy of course. I will have to write your name on it. So pm me about that, and i will ship it out to you!
The comp was the largest group we had yet! i hope you are ready for round four we are going to have a good old fashioned fun time. I will post a link here eventually.
Wow! I'm so thrilled to have placed! Congrats to Ruglud and Ramos for their superb works - although everyone clearly put in a huge amount of effort and the standard was very high - and thanks to cormadepanda et al in running this beast of a contest!
Thank you, but really i am more happy you all joined. You make the work worth while. Arakasi, you work was amazing! truely inspiring. I hope you keep participating.
I don't normally get models totally finished, in fact this was my first completed effort for a few years (as you can see from the volume of bare plastic in my various blogs...)
Roll on round 4 - Let's see if I can improve my position
Thanks Panda & Papa & congrats to Ramos Asura - a very worthy winner...
Woah!! I really wasnt expecting that!
Thank you all for such a great contest- Im really honored to have been among such stellar modellers and painters. I can definitely see how the judges had such a hard time! I'd be hard pressed to select winners myself.
A huge congratulations to everyone who participated!
Hope to see you again in round 4!
