Well, those Blood Ravens look a lot better than mine. I never could get the red or bone quite right. The assault squad in particular, looks excellent. If I might be so bold, what base colours did you use? I'd never be able to replicate your technique or precision, but I quite like those colours, and I've been feeling I ought to repaint my Ravens.

I spray a couple of layers of army painted matt varnish it sticks fine then :-)

After looking through this whole thread there really isn't a single thing I didn't like, your paint jobs are gorgeous!

The one in particular that caught my eye was the black and tan Eldar jet bikes - they're amazingly clean and the unique design on each really makes the army stand out. The weathering and detail on many of the other models is amazing, but for some reason the simple, clean, and well done look of those bikes just amazes me.

I'm sure we'd all love to see more!

To be fair I was looking at it with quite tired eyes last night, I can see the subtle grey highlights today.

a couple of knight titans

These titans are amazing. Very simple color scheme, but executed beautifully like all your other work. I think the black/white scheme looks particularly good on the death's head face plate. That head just looks great with black/white given the stylized skull look of it. Great stuff!

here's the next lot

The heads/middle and behinds of the flying nurglies seem to be a bit bland, maybe give the eyes some flare? Otherwise looking splendid as I have come to expect going here.

wanted them to look moth like hence the muted colour pallet :-)

excellent work - you seem to have imperial fists and their colours downpat.

Airbrush makes everything so much faster and smoother, better transitions and blends, it's just getting the skill level up first.

Dave! Your work is fantastic. One question though - do you prefer brighter metallics? Everything is so beautifully worn and detailed, but your metal work has almost a mithril like base to it. Just curious.

I love the blood just randomly splattered across the bikes. You should have some impact-splatters across the nose of each.

I'm in total agreement with Gitsplitta. The blood splatter on the bikes really adds some sweet extra detail. I'm also in love with how you did the sword on the Draigo count-as. The flow of colors on the blade is just fantastic. Is it airbrushed or blended?

additional reinforcements for the minotaur's army I painted a while back 1 more thing to come for these ran out of daylight today :-(

Whats going on with his shoulder pad and back? Looks like it got way overprimed or something.

dam army painter matt varnish reacted with something customer is gonna decide if they like it or not if not then I'm gonna get a new pad and repaint it :-(

I personally like that look. It gives it a nice weathered appearance.

I like the look too, problem is that it's only one pad. If the whole model had turned out that way... it would have been fantastic!

Having only just discovered this thread, I am just as impressed a everyone else, both in terms of the quality of the ouput, and the amount. Dave, you are clearly very talented and ridiculuosly disciplined to achieve so much.

I have so many questions, but will limit myself to just one today and I apologise if you have already answered it: You mentioned that some of these armies are painted specifically for selling on eBay. Do you find that they sell well? The only armies I have seen on eBay have sold for under the cost of the models which is clearly not financially viable. Could you give some details, or provide a link to an auction?

And please keep up the updates!

a day late but here's (yesterdays) todays commission update

Wraith knight :-) was a 2nd hand mini but managed to break it down a bit and repose it now with the feet pointing in the right directions!!

Been a lot more productive today with the Eldar commission first up we've got a Avatar with SWORD not spear for a change!!

these were 2nd hand minis pretty happy with the end result

I don't understand the tonal changes on there. They don't seem like logical gradients from light to dark, just like where there are lines on parts of the model it is brown.

The cockpit is brilliant though. I just wish you had done more with the yellows.

Hmm.. I think it looks pretty neat, a different style than what you usually see. I like the webbing, and indeed the cockpit looks great, on all of them. I especially like the big guy a few posts back.

The sarge has quite a large head. Also what made you opt out of the pale white skin on the ravenguard ?

Nice job,i too don't understand the color changes? Especially on the avatar he doesn't look at all on fire or 'hot' but hey maybe that's the look you were going for? I personally prefers the lava look myself

Thanks for sharing them I have been thinking of starting a Grey Knight/Space Wolf army joint army and that is pretty much the colour scheme I will be going for except I will have blue highlights around the trim of the armour. It's given me an idea on what mine *could* look like.

wow, this is the type of work that has been making me want an airbrush lol. i especially like the minotaurs paint scheme, what paints did you use to get the brass colour, was it a custom mix or straight out the bottle. also the oxidization on them was that a gw technical paint or did you make your own wash.

You clearly know how to paint, but man... those bases are killing me! Everyone finds themselves a rock to perch on. A tuft would go a long way towards breaking that up and giving it some visual interest.

I know how clients can be, but I tend get pretty good liberty from my own. C'est la vie. Eager to see what you can do with them when turned loose a bit.

Dave,i love the gritty look you have got with the Raven Guard and the black/red contrast on the Eldar is top notch mate.

I personally still like the white arms for raven guard vets but they still look awesome. Also great job with the raven guard skin, much better than the ones in the space marine codex

Did your red flatten out in the pics? I swear I can see a bit more gradient in there (especially on the Libby shoulder), but I had a similar issue when photographing a BA commission a few months back. Just wondering if you had the same issue.

My favourite is the twin lightning claw guy. For me the green power weapons could do with some work [glow emanating from the 'node' rather than the tip] and not a fan of the verdigris on the bronze parts, but overall very nice.

I like power weapons like that and I am usually a fan of the patina, but for BA, I think they need the bling. Gold!
