You need to register your wireless network with your DS in the settings.

They give away Pokémon hand-over-fist in this game. I'm not using the Lapras or Lucario I got given- they're just in the way.

Did you make sure to turn off exp share? Also you might want to put your battle on set as well as have a rotation team. THe game is undeniably easier than other pokemon games so if you want a minor challenge (no pokemon game has ever been hard but at least it wasn't THAT much of a breeze) then those are some good choices.

To add someone as a Friend on the game itself, you both have to be online at the same time, right? I used my girlfriend's DS while mine was charging, and it wiped my friend's list from the game .-.

Just added you Rysear and you came right up. Will be going right to the Safari now; let me know what you get out of mine.

As for making the game harder/longer, I think set battles really could be an idea alright as not only does it add challenge to the battle, but it makes training new guys a bit harder.

I think my safari is the Poison type if that helps anybody

Just picked you up Mimicry and Mega_Bassist (Joshooa).

Godless-Mimicry you are Grass type, I caught a Tangela and a Sawsbuck in your safari.

Mega_Bassist you are a Flying type, I caught a Farfetch'd and a Swanna in your safari.

Nah you were a Poison Ry, though I got Cascoon and Garbodor, so that's pretty sweet. If anyone is interested, I got Noibat and Sliggoo in Hat's Dragon Safari, Butterfree in someone called Brian's Bug Safari, and I had a Rock Safari under the name Brendan but already had the Pupitar and I think it was Rhyhorn I found in there.

It's got pretty good Sp.D, passable Sp.A, and Adaptability (turns STAB into a 2* multiplier, rather than a 1.5* one) as its hidden ability. Its offensive movepool looks to be fairly decent, although not much has been confirmed on the supportive side. It'll probably make a decent UU bulky special attacker. Maybe RU.

In competitive gameplay, I think choice scarf ditto's going to suddenly become quite a bit stronger due to mega evos: You can be certain the mega evos won't outspeed due to needing to hold the evolution item, and they're often powerful enough to sweep without needing to set up due to higher base stats.

Mine managed to get me to no.31 on the pokemon showdown temporary 6th gen ou

Considering Nintendo's attitude toward DLC, and the trading mechanics built into Pokemon, they'd probably have a very hard time getting any pokemon turned into paid DLC. Maybe things like clothing, but not gameplay altering things like pokemon or items.

Well, because I really want him to get it. Likitung learns it, and is in the same egg group, and it's now been buffed to be a really good move. 65 BP move that knocks away an enemy's item while also getting a 1.5* multiplier when doing so, and TTar gets STAB to boot, increasing its potential BP to 146. The damage alone is impressive, but the added effect of removing the enemy's item would absolutely cripple most survivors. Would be a very potent alternative to Crunch, with added utility, and would be a fantastic addition to my special-wall TTar.

Also, FC: 0860-4081-6465

Not sure if I have yours added or not.

My team is finally complete. Took forever to get it done, but it looks some fantastic.

EDIT: Additionally, the system they have for ranked battles is ridiculously stupid. I honestly have no idea why they limited them to 3 pokemon per team. It makes it nearly impossible to have a team without an easily exploitable counter, and essentially turns ranked battles into a luck of the draw to see who can pick the team that counters the other's, rather than rewarding actual smart play and team composition.
The games aren't very interesting either, since you tend to have a good idea whether you'll win or lose once you see the specific pokemon that counters your selection, or that you have the one your opponent didn't pick a counter for themselves.

It's a real shame too, since of the handful of online matches I've done, some of them were against some pretty interesting team loadouts that would have been pretty fun to fight, had the entire match not been decided by a coin flip.

http://www.smogon.com/

It's basically the central community for pokemon battling online, IRC, forums, and I think competitions? Though don't quote me on that.

Smogon and the online simulator community isn't sanctioned by NIntendo so much as allowed to exist.

Baffling when you think about it really cause Nintendo sure doesn't want lets plays to exist but copyright infrining simulators of their game are a okay

But yeah. Smogon is awesome. Lots of info, a chatroom dedicated to friend codes for safaris, huge trade threads and breeding shops etc.

Use the Battle Spot option in the online window, and you'll have a rank.

But it's hardly of any value. Since the ranked online mode for singles is 3v3 (picked after team preview), it's pretty much a coin flip to see if you picked the right counters.

Uber.

LordofHats wrote:I might as well be ubar cause talonflame takes a giant gak on his face XD

Talonflame also gets utterly crushed by stealth rock and can't safely switch in on him because of it.

Pokemon X/Y @ 2013/11/13 21:18:12

Post by: p_gray99

Talonflame's ability is good, but it's not helped by its measley base 81 attack stat which, while not being utterly terrible, isn't that great for OU compared to physical attackers such as banded dragonite, kyurem-b or shell smash cloyster to name a few. That, coupled with taking 50% damage each time it switches in, will probably put it down in UU once the tiers have settled a little.

Pokemon X/Y @ 2013/11/13 21:36:59

Post by: Fafnir

I honestly think that Talonflame does have a place in OU, or at the very least, UU with potential to work well in specific OU teams.

Losing 50% off of SR on the switch is pretty bad, but we've been given some new tools to combat entry hazards this gen, and priority on all flying-type moves is just too good to ignore. Volcarona has a similar crippling weakness (actually even worse, since it's not even immune to spikes), but manages to do quite well with the right support, and I can see Talonflame doing very much the same.

But it's definitely not the kind of pokemon you can just throw on to any team, as it seems some people are doing now. You definitely need to build your team around ensuring he gets in safely.

Thing is, while having priority on all Flying type moves seems great, in a competitive build you are only going to have one anyway. So it's not much to write home about.

And historically the majority of Pokes with 4x weakness to entry hazards get relegated to UU, though there are of course exceptions, but I don't think Talonflame will be one of them.

Still, priority Bravebird/Acrobatics and Roost(!) are both fantastic, and access to swords dance/bulk up can give it the ability to hit hard with prediction.

Even without priority, with 126 speed, it will be outspeeding a lot of the competition with Flare Blitz.

Even if it ends up UU, it'll definitely be capable of finding a viable niche in OU teams.

Don't forget the newly viable defog!

126 Speed means that the ability becomes even less of a wow factor, given that it is fast enough anyway. Problem is the mediocre-at-best attack stat, meaning it is been lynched into either a Banded set or a Sword's Dance set, which could be difficult given the 4x weakness to Stealth Rock (harder to get a switch in to set-up on) and its weak defenses.

Not bad by any means, and maybe it will see some use in OU, but I don't see it being as popular as many might think.

Just a thought, but how would people feel about a Dakka mini tourney?

Oh? I wouldn't be able to join tourneys unless they continued during the spring and or summer but if they lasted until then I'd be all up for it. Any limitations or rules? Also OU, UU, NU?

Using Pokemon Showdown, or in-game?

Either way, I'd be down.

If it were in-game, I'd require time to breed and train my new team.

Maybe in game, keep it in dakka. Set up a new post or update the OP with the info if mega_bassist doesn't mind. Was thinking depending on how many people are interested do it either as a random drawn ladder type thing or just keep it simple with a 3-2-1 point split and probably wait till at least new years before getting things set up properly, kinks to iron out first I guess/give people chance to train, and as far as I can see on smogon x/y hasn't been officially tiered yet unless i'm missing it?

As for Tiers, up for vote I guess. Depends if people want to go super serious with OU or do a "make the best of it" with UU/NU.

I vote use the Simulator, simply because it's easier and allows StarTrotter to join in. It also means we can freely experiment without the need for grinding and training.

Plus I'm not very good at EV training, so this makes it nicer for me

I also vote use the simulator, bacause I can't get a 3ds until Christmas most likely. I think we should do RU for the tier: Typhlosion, Abomasnow, Absol, Aerodactyl!

Simulator exists for a reason

I'd be in for an in-game tourney, but I never liked the simulators.

I'd be up for that. I'd have to download it but it's certainly easier than building a team

Not even a download. You can run it in your browser.

If it were on a simulator, I'd be happy to play. I recommend pokemon showdown, I've got a good team on there already
As for talonflame, bringing up volcarona and defog makes a good point. It'd still have to be used on a team that had a strong spinner (or defogger) but after Christmas I can see Skarmory being a good defog user, and if excadrill remains OU that's another option. It could maybe use swords dance to boost its attack to decent levels, but I still think there'd be a large number of strong counters. I can see it being in use in OU, even if it were put into UU.

I'd be interested also. But, I've never used a Pokemon Sim, so I'd have to check it out first

Can we play Hackmons?

Seriously, I've become a little addicted to Hackmons. It is possibly the most fun thing ever. Become quite good at it too.

I love hackmons, I use a riolu-like tactic of setting up loads of hazards then getting something with prankster to roar then use copycat :3
That, with sturdy shedinja, no guard deoxys-s with sheer cold, wonder guard spiritomb, and then teravolt arceus to finish off.

Yup, Tangela and Sawsbuck are my contribution to the Pokemon world. If we are online at the same time also there is a third Pokemon that shows up, but I don't know what it is yet.
