Ashildr will make more appearances I think. Her character arc hasn't come to its logical conclusion yet.

Clara however has, she's ridden off into the sunset to have a few last adventures of her own with her own companion (Ashildr). She's outgrown the Doctor's shadow - a pseudo Doctor. (Doctor Oswald? The Impossible Doctor?).

Really liked the Xmas special. The robot was a good, fun monster. The king was sufficiently over the top bombastic. The other supporting cast were well done. The head was nicely creepy. The emotional bit at the end was well done I though, and we can still always see her again later what with the whole weird time travel stuff they do, plus she's still in the library, right?

I've been thinking about it, and I'm sure that's the end of River. Like she didn't know this Doctor, thinking he died as 11, so she doesn't know any future Doctors. They also showed her final meeting with the Doctor before the library. Hopefully though they'll do something with her being a hologram from the library.

During the meeting in the library she told us that she had just been to the Singing Towers of Darillium. Where he "turned up with a new haircut and suit – and he cried."

so she's got about 24 years or so -- time enough to learn his real name one presumes -- and then....

She knew (from studying Time Lord culture/the Doctor telling her) that Smith's version was the last regeneration. She wasn't with him to get the new set and hadn't seen him yet.
We have also seen her post-library, when Smith's Doctor went to Trenzalore with the Great Intelligence (she was psychically linked to Clara and they finally said goodbye).

I absolutely loved this episode. It was lighthearted, the writing wasn't terrible, and the emotions were great. I loved the Doctor laughing in the snow about a talking bag, River being very Doctor-y with her threats to the king ("I'm an archaeologist and you'll pay"), and that beautiful reveal when River is talking about what it's like to love him.

My only problem with it was that Smith took her there in a short (before going back to visit Craig), but I like this version a lot more.

I thought it was a great episode. A very light touch for a Christmas special.

Remember the dreadfully contrived 300 years defending the town of Christmas that Smith had to do to get to 13 regenerations. Pah.

I had forgotten that River Song dies in the Library so she isn't going to die in the singing towers. That made the final scene more poignant.

Some pretty significant DW news here:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-35388748

Good news: Moffat is going after the next series. He's done some good stuff, but I think he's definitely been running things for too long now and I think Chris Chibnall will make a good replacement, I'm a fan of most of his stuff.

Bad news: nothing new this year until Christmas, with the new series going out in 2017. Very irritating after how good the last series was.

Personally, I'm just kinda wondering who the new companion is going to be.

In practice then we will not see the back of Moffatt for another two years.

Hopefully he will make his swan song a humdinger good one.

To be honest, I can't quite understand it myself.

I was doing some reading about Doctor Who recently, which included that apparently filming the series takes 10-11 months of the year, leaving no time for other projects.

Generally speaking, Doctor Who is 13 episodes long, plus a Christmas special every year.
The other main TV show I've done reading into was "Arrow" - which has 22-24 episodes per year and films almost all year round as well.
Except, Arrow tends to have at least 1 expensive 'stunt' per episode, whereas Doctor Who has maybe 1 or 2 major stunts per year.

I genuinely don't understand it all myself. My only explanation is that Doctor Who must spend hours and hours and hours reshooting scenes. I can't help but wonder, "is it really worth it?" - Especially since so many end up turning out rather rubbish anyway!

Maybe it is the constant set changes and sets that dont get used more than once?

That's production as opposed to filming, though. Sure, I could see an argument for the set designers, carpenters etc taking a heckuva long time to do stuff.

However, the articles I have read really quite regularly talk about how much a strain filming Doctor Who is on the cast.

Filming is production.

Private Eye says there have been various disagreements and appointments among the senior staff that have resulted in useless idiots being in charge.

Take that with salt if preferred.

I was just trying to separate, like, "stuff the actors do" and "study behind the scenes people do."

This is part of the BBC's attempts to sustain the excitement behind Doctor Who when they've managed to fail to make a series for this year.

If they take a year off it hurts the show unless they do at least two specials. Otherwise the non core fans lose track of the show or get into new ones.

There will be a Christmas special this year. I don't know if they will film a summer/early autumn special. They haven't started filming yet for next year. Two specials for this year could be crammed into the start of the production schedule, maybe.

What they should have done, in my view, is, when they had that comment of. "They're fat, they'd get stuck in a door." "They're a tank."

Then cut to a Dar'lek smashing through the gap and an "oh ****" look.

But yeah, looks like a mix of Rose and Donna. No real strong feelings from me to be honest. - I'm not a massive Dr Who fan, generally but I do tend to watch it.

I was a bit underwhelmed by this clip really. I can see they're going for quirky/funny but it all seemed a bit....formulaic, like we've been here before.

I was actually hoping it was a misdirect and that someone else would jump out of no-where and disable the Dalek. I Guess I was hoping for Ace2 or something. Seems we have another companion to ask questions so the Doc can explain the plot for us...again.

Gosh, that actress and character looks like a moron. Would have preferred an intelligent character like Astrid from Fringe.

Aaand I hate her already.
Rose and Donna were my least favorite companions.
Doesn't help that she's annoyingly talkative, with cringe worthy lines that are a failed attempt at comedy.

I liked Donna because she was all 'innit' like that n all but she was good at nagging the Doctor.

Brought a bit of down to earthiness to the role.
