Greetings!

I feel that my poor Tau have been in storage for far too long and they have the need to spread the Greater Good.

Any one up for a game on the 1st June (Wednesday)? I'm available at any time on that day. I would like to have a game at 2000 points (so a relatively large game), so all my models can see the light. But I'm happy at any points below that.

Cheers

Hello. Looking for a game of 40k on Monday or Tuesday 30-31st May 2016 anytime in the great hall at Games Workshop whilst I am visiting Notts. I prefer 2000 points and play Tau at a medium level. Can anyone help me out? Cheers Peachi-Pete

Greetings!

After watching some games of GormaMorka from miniwargaming the past few weeks, I have decided I want to give it a go.

I just want to gauge the interest level with the group, would people be willing to try it out? If enough people are interested, I will try to sort something out.

Cheers
Taemu

Heya folks, been off the forums for a little while and my poor daemons have been gathering dust. :(

Anyone up for WHW this weekend? Given that I can get a table in time. Either Saturday 11th or Sunday 12th. As always, can do about 1500 points of Chaos SM or Khorne Daemonkin

Starting on Wednesday 15th June, all areas of Warhammer World will be open until 10.00pm on Wednesday evenings.

This gives you more time to eat, enjoy and game, without having to rush. Your mid-week gaming evening just got even better!

Bugman’s Bar will be serving food until 8.00pm, and then Bugman’s Bar, the shops, Exhibition Centre and Events Hall will all be open until 10.00pm. Sounds good Buttery. I'll book two tables tommorow over the phone, so there's room if anyone else still wants to come along.

Should be bringing a friend, he'll be bringing his unpainted Eldar, and we might end up stopping for a smidge of painting on the side at some point.

We're all headed down this Sunday! Two tables are confirmed booked now. I'm thinking around 1000 points myself would be good, we'll see on the day.

1000 seems like a nice amount. But I think I could just about muster 3k if I brought everything with me. I haven't played in about 8 months so a little rusty so 1000 point might be best for some shorter games.

I think we're all gonna be pretty chill about the bare plastic stuff xD I've barely touched by models since the last time I played down there a month or so back.

Btw, to anyone who doesn't know, the table will be booked under the name Mark RIgley (Or Wrigley, as they sometimes decide to spell it). The tables have name cards on them so that's how you can find us, if any new folks are coming.

Edit: Also, i'll be there opening time, hopefully Look for a bearded guy with a Chaos army.

Hi all. I'm organising a big game on July the 27th as a sort of hobby stag do (just a game with a few drinks and food, no stupid laddish additions). If anyone from the thread wants to join, you are very welcome. It will be a 30k/40k game. There will be a few of us there, including some whw regulars. AEIOUMadden and Mellamoluigi have already been invited as I have their numbers, but everyone is welcome (you might need a fairly robust sense of humour, and not be easily offended!)

If you fancy it pm me. Buttery if you want your titan to do some killing, you are very welcome to bring it along!

I'll see what state I'm in, as well as the Titan, James. Sounds like a good time.

I'm leaving my job due to them actively making my life hell, so I don't know how robust my anything will be at that point. Hopefully recovered by then though!

@BC Sounds like you are going through it, I hope it works out well for you and you find another position soon. Come if you can, or rest if you need to, open invite.

Edit: Table is booked for the 27th. They have changed the rules so now everything needs to be painted and based and obviously gw. I'm suggesting three base colours. Might be a pain, but it's a good excuse to get stuff moving.

When did the painted models thing become a rule?

40K: Nottingham WHW HQ - General Topic (multiple users) @ 2016/06/13 20:31:02

Post by: JamesY

I think it is something that they are phasing in currently, she said it was because "the tables are awesome and it makes it a better game for everyone." I've been a bit guilty for gaming with grey this year, so it will stop me doing that if nothing else.

40K: Nottingham WHW HQ - General Topic (multiple users) @ 2016/06/13 21:22:13

Post by: Jadenim

I'd be up for joining the fun if that's ok? Any idea on game format / points? That's become a bit more important if painted models are required!

40K: Nottingham WHW HQ - General Topic (multiple users) @ 2016/06/13 21:35:14

Post by: JamesY

You are welcome to join in! At present there is looking like 15-20 definite people, all of whom are really good guys to game/socialise with. Final numbers will dictate points, anywhere between 1-3k per person will be possible, depending on what they have. We can work out sides/balance closer to the time

40K: Nottingham WHW HQ - General Topic (multiple users) @ 2016/06/13 23:05:30

They cannot seriously be enforcing painted minis... That's nuts.

I'll lose half my opponents!

40K: Nottingham WHW HQ - General Topic (multiple users) @ 2016/06/14 07:47:22

Post by: AEIOUMadden

I can imagine it won't be very strict but theyre saying it just to motivate people into getting their stuff painted

Either way I'll be there and hopefully this ever growing pile of grey will be a lot smaller!

I can understand that for the feature tables, but not for just a realm of battle with a few trees...

Well if my Titan is built by then, but not completely painted, I'll just furnish it with the receipt as a flag.

Yeah, just a note on the new rule - they've had this in since like the beginning of 2016. However, my friends and I have taken bare plastic models into WHW before since then on several occasions and the staff haven't even batted an eyelid at us, so don't worry about it if you can't get everything done. We've played on feature tables and everything...

It's the first time it's ever been said to me, and I play every school holiday and always book ahead. I'm not disputing you at all, just odd that they have only just mentioned it. I'm not worried, most of the staff I know well, half of us at the game will be ex staff, so it won't be a problem even if they weren't already decent people. Good excuse to get stuff moving though. I might even try to blog my attempts to paint a whole company in six weeks...

BC, they definitely wouldn't complain at that! And I think turning the receipt into a loincloth is a must!

Youre on about painting an entire company in 6 weeks and I just spent most an evening building a riptide leg...

I got a little over the top on the cleaning as I build...

40K: Nottingham WHW HQ - General Topic (multiple users) @ 2016/06/15 05:30:45

Post by: JamesY

I wouldn't worry, I'm sure it is an amazing leg! I have a decent amount of experience with miniature painting, I'm not saying I'm really good at it by any means, but as long as I can get the time at the table I can produce a good tabletop army quickly. I am literally going to aim to get the armour done properly (shading and highlights), properly based, and then just put the base layers on the fists, black silver bits. After the game I'll be at leisure to finish them, but at least they'll be useable and not grey.

100 crimson fists. I'll just be doing the armour and bases properly, and a couple base coats to pick out some details.

Getting a teenager to paint them for you is cheating.
Though now I'm gainfully unemployed, I could probably get you there with lessons.

I can definitely make it, but can only be there til around 12ish. If you are good with the rules we can easily do 1k or 1250 in an hour and a half. If you get a better offer for a bigger game then no hard feelings, just let me know. Have you booked a table?

Oh no I don't know how it works. It'll be my first time there. I assume there will be lots of open tables though in the morning?

No, there are none left. Luckily I took a chance and booked the last one...

Everything needs to be gw and as much painted as possible. I've got a couple of armies I can use, but would quite like to use my ork mek army as haven't used it this edition. It's nearly all AV, so S5+ and haywire would be needed. If you'd rather face something more suitable to what you have with you then that isn't a problem.

Hey that's great! Orks are perfect! I'll field my harlequins. It's a fluffy army.

Oh all AV. hm... Ah oh well. It'll still be fun even if I get tabled.

No green tide?

I am happy to use my grey knights or crimson fists if it would be a more balanced game? I've got a few armies but the new painted rule means a few of them aren't appropriate any more.

And no, no green tide, it's all yella!

Anyone up for some very small games while I learn Daemons in late June/early July?
I'm talking 500 or less, I just need to lather rinse repeat on the basics. The codex still makes me feel stupid.

Thanks guys! I'll see what I can get built! I'll be doing Slaanesh.
My army will be (eventually):
Seekers x 10
Daemonettes x 20
Exalted Chariot
Soulgrinder
KoS
Daemon prince (Fulgrim)

So nothing super awful. To practise I'll probably have like 10 daemonettes and 5 seekers and maybe the SG.

By the way I was meaning do ask: either you or remmick have any spare imperial guard transfers I may be able to purchase/trade off of you? I need one, something regimenty, for a flag on my ethereal base

Ah cool I havnt got a specific one in mind but Id know when I see it I think haha. Even just an aquila would do fine. Didnt like the idea of leaving the flag blank on the plastic ethereal kit even if it is a shredded ruin.

How's your end of the race coming on? I just finished the crimson layers on everything today (two coats ). Just the black (most time consuming step) and silver left to do. Pics on my p&m blog tomorrow hopefully.

What points you thinking. If I can nab our groups rulebook I may be up for that.

 DaemonColin wrote:
Yeah, just a note on the new rule - they've had this in since like the beginning of 2016. However, my friends and I have taken bare plastic models into WHW before since then on several occasions and the staff haven't even batted an eyelid at us, so don't worry about it if you can't get everything done. We've played on feature tables and everything...

Sorry, I was looking back in this thread and noticed this... I can remember at WHW around 10-12 years ago they had a rule that models had to be undercoated, if staff noticed they would make you remove them from the tables. I can remember this happening to a mate of mine a few times, seeing his undercoating was pretty hit and miss.

Yeah that's fine, not arranged a game over the forums before tbh

Anyway if there's anything you deffo don't wanna face just let me know. Neither of my armies are exactly super competitive, but I do get a few mumblings about my flyrants (albeit I doubt I'll bring my nids).

Awesome, I'll call up and book a table today. Any preference to what kind? I think this is the only way Ive ever set up a game lol

Ah I dont mind what you bring and neither should I since Ill be bring tau haha. If theres anything you dont wanna face then thats cool though. I might be fielding a riptide since Ive almost finished building it and want to try it out if thats ok? Could bump the points up to 1,250 depending.

Oh I don't mind what table. I'll just make a 1,000 & 1,250 list, so do whatever you're comfortable with. You're more than welcome to bring your riptide. I'm yet to kill one but it hasn't stopped me beating tau on the odd occasion.

FYI I do use forgeworld, albeit only for the Armoured Battlegroup list and the salamanders, so no need to expect superheavies etc. I'll most likely just use my guard seeing I have far too many of my nids to paint atm, although my aircompressor arrived today so I will be trying to finish most my tanks before sunday.

I booked the table for all day. When do you fancy startin?

Im fine with anything to be fair, so bring what you like . Would be good to see some forgeworld stuff and Im yet to have a game against guard.

Tell about it I really need to get some painting done as shamefully theres a lot of bare plastic.

I normally start at 10:30 if that's okay with you? And do you mean arrive or start? I have to make that clarification with my group constantly seeing otherwise I'd be waiting by myself for 30mins

Don't get too excited most of the Guard FW book is simply normal models with different point costs and rules and I had to kitbash my salamander seeing they're hard to get hold of these days

Well, I'm not trying to jinx it, but it looks like my Titan will be built in time to come out and play with you, James.
But here's my query - what weapons would be more fun? I can do two power fist, or one and a turbo laser.
Also it's not going to have the missile launcher fitted, but it would if I could pick between the chaos and loyalist designs. So it is the Titan of Infinite Variability.

Sounds good Buttery! Given how long you have spent working on it, I'd go for whatever weapons you want. There won't be any other titans on the table, except for possibly mellamoluigi's harridan, so mo guns might be better.

Well I'm magnetting both, but I'll put priority into the burbo laser.
Is it one table? Because now I feel this may be mild overkill.

Also as Remmick is giving me a lift because having half built it, I realised I have no way of moving it... is there a general time of kickoff?

Still in the air a little but will let you know soon. There will be plenty of fire power on the table so I wouldn't worry too much, plus everyone will be aiming for it...

To all those who have said that they can make the 27th, kick off is going to be between 10.00 and 10.30. If you can't make it then, just arrive when you can and you are welcome to join straight in. Just a reminder, my friendship group does have a "strong" sense of humour, nothing is ever said to upset anyone, and we always have great fun playing, but I know it isn't everyone's taste...

I think we are at capacity for the table now, so any one who hasn't already said that they are coming (AEIOU, BC, Rem, Mella, Sonny off the top of my head), unfortunately I don't think the table can take anymore. Should be about 7 people per side.

Can't wait for it! Only 19 fists left to finish

I'm looking forward to it too, should be a good laugh. The painting front isn't looking too good on my side of things. I'm planning to get the base colours done on all my fire warriors and maybe even some shading by then. If it's any consolation I've fully painted under my ethereal's dress before basing him if that floats your boat lol

I'm not easily offended (grew up in Wigan). Your mates may get a good giggle out of my hair. It's back to being six colours and matches my fabulous hat.

Also I don't remember what I've introduced myself as in the past games, but since early May, my name has legally been Benny (Bennett).
I don't mind if folk forget (and I don't have pronoun thing - I'm way too relaxed). Sady I'm too embarrassed and shy to stop all the WHW staff calling me by my old name after they went to the trouble to learn it.

OH! Yeah I came to this topic because there are two free to play tournaments in August!
The 23rd is a Tuesday and a 1250 point tourney.
The 29th is bank holiday monday and a 400pt special tourney with no high powered figures!

To be fair Buttery is always the first name to come to mind . But since I dont think we've actually played against eachother at one of the group meets I don't think much happened in the way of introductions. I'm Darrell if you wasn't sure before.

I'd love to go to those tournaments but my big grey blob is getting in the way of that. At the least it'll give me some more motivation haha

@AEIOU don't worry mate, whatever you can get done will be enough.

@BC good to hear it! They may well giggle at such a vibrant do, although I think they will be more worried about the Reaver, on whatsapp today they have been plotting desperately for ways that they can take it down.

Typical about the events, I'll be honeymooning!

You should reassure them that a) I don't know how to play and b) I do not play sensibly. I play for making sure other people get more than one turn.
Also if we have to do WYSIWYG, it only has one ranged weapon.

When we did the Titan participation game at Forgeworld's Open Day (A warlord, a reaver and two warhounds per side), the idea was to take everything out, and I may have played rather badly on purpose so that the teenager on the other end of the table actually got to shoot things with his Warlord.

Hi James, I think I said I'd come earlier in the thread, just thought I'd check you'd got me in the numbers?

Also @Buttery, when we met last time I thought you hesitated on introducing yourself, figured it was because of the whole screen name/ real world thing, not ...other reasons. Congrats on the new moniker!

No but I've heard its pretty convenient seein how close it stops to WHW. I'll have to bus and walk it since I'm the wrong side of Beeston for it lol

You walk to the back of the train station (follow the curve of the main front hall and towards the toilets/car park exit). Take the stairs up, and get the Toton Lane tram that heads towards Gregory street. You cannot actually miss the stop, it's the one after you see the WHW building.

Looking fantastic, James!

I'm going to bring the Titan and my guard, and see which is more appropriate to use. I'm worrying that it's probably quite boring to fire one gun per turn, and then get knocked out.

Aye, the person on the phone was an anomaly, James. There's no set painted mini policy. I was chatting to our local manager and joked I needed to paint an entire Titan by tomorrow, and he took it incredibly seriously (and was quite irritated) that someone had said it was the case to anyone outside a tournament.
It was a real joking to adult-face in 0 seconds conversation.

My guard are mostly painted anyway. Some details need doing.

For anyone wondering what happened with the Titan vs Knights/Tau short game after...
Hilariously bad things. After a couple rounds of back and forth, the reaver tried to laser something close by, scattered, and killed itself immediately. After we decided that was stupid and didn't happen, a knight punched it to death in one turn.

Hey guys, I'm new to the local 40k scene (and 40k in general) and was wondering if anyone would fancy a quick 1400pt intro game some time this week.

Also, are there any other 40k communities in Nottingham? For the centre of wargaming in the UK (and possibly the world), I've been finding it incredibly difficult to find a game and an active community. Thanks

You won't struggle to find a game here or WHW.
Friar Lane in central Notts has regular nights as well, but few tables.

which we also decided didn't happen
final end-game was the lone remaining knight charging, damaging the reaver, them getting punched in the face with a 6 on the D-table. leading my knight to go nuclear, resulting in a 6 on the D-table for the reaver also, hilariously finishing the game

Friar Lane is the Nottingham city centre GW, the best bet is to go in and ask them.
It's about a minute's stroll from the town hall, on the same tram line as the station and WHW.

Late night is Thursday, and you'll need to book in advance. There is a fortnightly club that alternates between Tuesday and Wednesday nights at the Ned Ludd (opposite the gw store on friar lane), and I think there is another at the Station Hotel in Hockley on a tuesday night. Both are attended by some very interesting characters

@OldmikeIm not sure whether I'd be able to make the 17th of October yet as my birthday is around then and Im pretty sure something with family is bound to crop up.

As for booking a table, don't worry about getting a booking early. Ive called up the day before an AoS tournament and got away with booking a table. But Id advise not leaving it that late if you can help it lol

Just as a warning, I supposedly got the last table for sunday.... web booking always sucks and claimed they didn't have any, rang up and a guy a WHW said he could only give me one table (we wanted two) and it was limited to the morning only. So ring asap! It's rammed because half the tables are reserved for the continuation of the AOS ticketed event from the saturday.

I didn't see your list Henvic, which is a bit of a shame, I was looking forward to that. I took 5 Chosen, 5 Raptors and 5 Cultists. Got tabled 3 times and a pulse rifle up the ass.
Played Deathwatch, KD, Tau (x2) and Night Lords (the guy that won best painted)
How I managed to get 36th I do not know - although I was too busy laughing at my friend who got 4th!

I got tabled every single game, I think.
Eldar bikes and walkers wiped me in two turns once they actually hit.
Space wolves got me in three.
The rest were slower l think.
I only got points because the warp storm table killed a bike, and I did manage to eat some regular marines.

Hello folks,

I'll be visiting Nottingham in early October (4th to the 6th), with some mini's in my case (1k points of either 40K Necrons or HH Alpha Legion) and while I'm sure I'll get a pickup game, I'd be relieved if I had at least one game planned in advance (to remove the trepidation of showing up in an empty hall).
I'm a pretty casual player, I expect it'll be a simple CAD or one-formation style list I'll bring.

The train station has a tram stop in the back, if you get on the tram to Toton Lane, it will take you to WHW (Gregory Street).

Any time is fine.

Im just copying this here from the nottingham gaming groups thread. I was thinking that there's probably enough of us on here to sort out some regular gaming nights as well as the ocassional meetups we organise through the aforementioned thread. In the next month or so Ill be able to start doing wednesday nights at whw on a regular basis. We'd pretty much have the hall to our selves until 10pm. It seems to me a shame that the global HQ of the hobby doesn't have a regular group. Who'd be up for that?

Hey folks, had a great game yesterday ( thanks to Both ButteryCommisar and Creator666).
I'm wondering if anyone else is up for a match right now? I just walked into the hall, and there dont seem to be any other pickuppers atm (or all allready paired off). My Alpha Legionairres are feeling lonely.

My table's in the right aft corner of the gaming hall, if I'm not at it, likely having a drink or ogling minis.

Pick up games are possible, but harder to arrange. If you don't mind walking up to everyone who is at a gaming table and isn't playing and asking them, you'll probably find someone, or ask if they want a game with you afterwards. I'd have come down myself if it weren't for work.

Travel news!
If you are visiting Warhammer World Friday 21st to Monday 24th October there are some road resurfacing works at the Abbey Street and Gregory Street junction (where the White Hart pub is)
When you plan to travel and your direction of travel may mean you can't reach Warhammer World from this junction!
If this is the case, you can always reach us from the A52 and Queen's Drive to Lenton Lane.

They're fine if you go on your own, everyone is incredibly friendly. The staff keep an eye on your gear during lunch, and there's no real dead time where you'd be stuck around, apart from right at the end on Sunday.

Heya folks, been on a bit of an absence from the forum for quite a while, but with 8th edition rolling out I'm interested again in meeting up with some new/old faces Would anyone be free during the week commencing the 26th? Got the whole week off! And as always, there's the regular Wednesday evening meet ups.

As always I'll have my lovely Daemons and 'Hereitic Astartes' available as a fairly sizeable force. But for smaller games I have a W.I.P army of Dark Eldar that I'm eager to field, though it's far from anything threatening at the minute (as if my Daemons are ).

I hope you're cool with unpainted minis (Most are painted, except a rhino and a couple of marines mixed in), but really I'm cool with facing anything within reason. Any day of the week will do for me except Monday as of now, so if you have a preferred day do let me know You know what kind of points/power you might be fielding? Got a 30 power list written up as of now but I can do much more i'm sure.

I think 50 will be okay for my Chaos forces, I'll have to rustle up a list of my own and see if it's stretching it at all. Tuesday is great for me, free all day - I'll book us a table just to be on the safe side, do you know what time would be good for ya?

Edit: Made up a list at 50 power, 1006 points that should work lovely.

Sweet. No idea what I'll be wearing but I'll be the disheveled looking guy with long hair and a beard

Last thing, do you happen to have the rulebook...? I've been playing my last games of 8th with the primer and borrowing other people's. The primer will do for a game but it doesn't have any of the mission rules, detachments, stratagems etc. I can remember most of it off memory but that not my most reliable attribute ^^

Hi all

I recently decided to get back into 40k after many years away (played Rogue Trader and 2nd Edition then WFB, Epic, Spacehulk etc.) Fairly recently moved to Nottingham and went into Warhammer World at the weekend. Decided to start an Iron Warriors army which will probably be a week or two until I can put together a 1000 point force, then will slowly painting them.

Do people turn up at WW for pickup games? Any groups of new players or groups/pools of players or similar? I was told its mostly people playing people they know but am very keen to get back into 40k again, so would be great to find people to play.

Cheers.

Bit of a late reply, I set up a facebook group a while back for setting up regular games here https://www.facebook.com/groups/1728899460706021/

Its intended to for wednesday nights mainly but many members use it to set games any time of the week.

I'm usually at whw on wednesday nights with a few others if you fancy meeting up for a game some time. I have little imperial fists army (30PL, ~500pts) Im playing with at the minute. So would be fun to face off against some Iron warriors!
