First unit started - Ard Boyz.

I should have put shields on the musician and standard bearer in the unit (standards next week) and will have to go back and fix it.

Now the colour scheme is really coming together.

Will be going back as the unit expands and putting shields on the standard bearers and drummer.

First Gore Grunta Unit.

Took ages to paint, lots and lots of detail on these models.

Also all of the orruks pictured have matte varnish, but damn they look glossy.

The super naturalistic boar fur is a great contrast to the painted metal plates. I love the combination!

Next up second warchanter (likely of 4)

Used a sword and spare head from the Brutes box to add some difference.

I love the pink and blue on the totems still, great way to tie in your scheme.

Second unit of Ard Boys started.

Differentiated from the first unit with one pink and one blue shoulder pad rather than the 2 pink for the first unit.
With the possible combinations I can get 4 using that method and to be honest I would be hard pressed ever seeing me needing more than 4 units of them.

The unit leader has a Brute head and I modified the axe with a reposition of the blade and removed the chain and skull.

The fist symbol on the flag is an imperial fist vehicle transfer painted over.

Ironskull's Boyz from Warhammer Underworld's painted up in my AOS Orruk Warband Scheme.

Very happy with the results.

Shoulder pads differing colours to match each of my projected first 4 Ard Boys units.

Moving into Kruleboyz - Stab Grot

Dominion box set contents continues.

The Gutrippaz squad was actually the first I painted a couple weeks ago but had forgotten to take pics.

Annoyed that they didn't add a musician and standard bearer for the squad, as they are in the after release box set.
I have another set of the Dominion Kruleboyz sets on the way via ebay from Singapore, so will have to buy 2 of the Gutrippaz unit sets to fill out both units with the standard and musician options.

Anyway to the models.

Theses are the LEAST busy (sculpting wise) of the Kruleboyz and appear specifically sculted to be done using contrast paints.
I used regular GW paints.

Next up Lockjaw from the Inhumans Affiliation from Marvel Crisis protocol.

I keep going on about how much I love these models for how much they are pushing my painting capability.
Cue irises, pupils and light reflection in the eyes and a hand painted, half full coke bottle being knocked over...
The base is 6cm diameter.

Started with the mid tone green that I normally use on the orruks to lighten the skin and the last layer the new Hobgrot skin yellow (best deen in the 2nd pic which has the closest to IRL skin tone) was added to get a slight yellowed tinge to the skin.

My son has started playing D&D and has run 'Eggman' a human sorcerer and 'Rhun Auld McDhun Auld' a dwarf fighter.
So we bought the models at the FLGS where the games are played and I quickly painted them up.
The smaller scale means a lot of the normal techniques I use do not translate well and had to restrain myself from being overly detailed.

Eggman a standard model converted by shaving off the hair.

Went into it thinking would be a boring model but using 3 completely different techniques for the green on the suit and found it amazing to paint.

The pink and blue match the rest of my destruction armies based in Hysh so eye watering colors are essential..
Green skin because I felt like it.
Gear from all destruction armies on the base to give some variety to a lot of empty space and reinforce the destruction theme, to get away from chaos.

Converted so rather than stepping off a rock blown up from an explosion, I removed the rock and turned the explosion around so that it looks like a dust cloud.
All the items on the base are set to convey a sense of speed.

Great rebasing, it really looks like he's tearing the pavement up with how fast he's going.

Wasp from MCP, 2 models interchangeable within the game.
The traffic light is from the terrain set.
Another brilliant model to paint.
The wings are clear plastic with guilliman blue glaze applied.

I have been working so hard on my MCP models to get natural highlights with the underside of models several shades darker than the top side.
Quicksilver and Viper are probably the best examples so far I have done.

Medusa from Marvel Crisis Protocol

The hair and body were painted separately.

The hair started with Word Bearers red and then 6 drybrush layers with added orange at eack level (last 2 pure orange) with an orange and yellow wash in there as well.

Sudden urge to paint some of my Necromunda models as out of nowhere a necromunda campaign has appeared at my FLGS.

So out come the Delaque.
Painted as per the GW Youtube 'How to paint' guide with the basing I do for all my Necromunda models and a slight change in skin with a blue wash thrown in and couple different colors through what paints I had handy.

All arm sockets and the backs have a 2mm diameter rare earth magnet with corresponding magnets in the arms and long gun weapons, as seen disengaged in the 4th picture.

All are named after James Bond movie villains (more famous ones will be used for the expansion set models)

These were second hand painted models, undercoat sprayed and repainted. Just couldn't be bothered stripping them and came up fine.

Note the pink face paint rather than blue, there will be later arrowboyz units with blue face paint. All for unit differentiation in games.

If you ever decide to paint this model, do the cape separately, it comes in 2 parts and is an absolute nightmare to get to all the strips from all angles if the model is assembled and based.

For a first try I am happy.

Pretty burnt out on painting currently so I still have a backlog of MCP models to post, but will be assembling and doing different ranges of models to have a break for awhile.

Back to posting after (and still) grinding through magnetized resin terminators for HH (pics will come one day when all done).

Until then what else I have been up to.

First a Mimetic Assassin from Conquest, The Last Argument Of Kings that I did for a painting comp at my FLGS.

Really pushed the contrast.
The guts from the dead spirer is a mix of pva glue, then a drop superglue added and swirled with a toothpick. It thickens instantly and was ready to paint in 20 minutes.

This is a very rad sculpt I did not know existed - solid genestealer paint too

Used a fire hydrant from the apartment block terrain pack to replace the original steel girder she was leaping off.

Dimensional Rifts from the Dormammu set from MCP.

Green, blue and purple mixed with metallics and then drybrushed for the balls.

The red is shades or ed or orange mixed with metallics and then a yellow wash over the top.

Dr Voodoo from MCP.
The purple on the smoke is all drybrush work.
The cape is my first ever attempt at wet blending and was very happy with the outcome.

Magik [MCP]
After taking photos I realized there was a smudge from the color used on the lips to the right of the face, and it was fixed (so the first pic is actually the last taken).

Never thought I'd be adding purple to yellow, until the shadow layers for this model.

Put into a 'Duel' painting competition at my local FLGS.

3 layers 3mm particle board.
Bottom base
Middle for the models
Top is bottom corner for a side walk.

The cuts are separations in pavement corresponding to the models bases.
Holes wer cut with a box cutter whilst the pieces were still seperate.



Dry fit the models


Added sand for rubble and fixed some holes.
Sand has mix PVA glue and water very thin to fix it in place for all time.


Undercoat cheap gloss spray (include the underside so doesn't warp the board). The board soaks up alot of moisture so you can need a lot of spray.


Painted as per road, rubble and sidewalk to match the models and my MCP basing.




Models added (terrain is blu-taced in place.

From Gal Vorbak red dry brushed all the way through red and oranges to Yriel Yellow.
The last pic with the model turned over shows the shadowed areas with most of the dark layers.

The white is layered from administratum grey and the reds from Khorne Red to a mix of Wild Rider Red and Screaming Skull

Magneto never skips leg day:

Really pushed the reds from Gal Vorbak red (an amazing base paint for deep reds and has replaced khorne red for me) to Evil Sunz Scarlet.

So much great work, and good to see you back in action, but I particularly love your little MCP basing touches.

Next up Darkstar from MCP

The purple of her superpower is greys from eshin grey up to administratum grey and then 2 washes of druchi violet, even out onto the ashphalt. Gives purple without the richness of traditional purple paints.

Also I wanted a low saturation for the blonde hair so used several bone colours and then yellow washed it.

Looks great, face particularly.

Hulkbuster and Iron Man [MCP]

The red is blood angels red directly over retributor gold, almost all in 1 coat.
All gold is black lined with rhinox hide.
With a chick-fil-a cup...

Looks fab, and I LOVE the basing!

Gambit and his tiny playing cards.

The coat is a whole pile of browns and beige-browns slapped on/drybrushed and then single thinned was agrax earthshade to tie together. Very happy with the textured result.

The Ancient One from Marvel Crisis Protocol.

Used Reikland Flesh Shade for the 'black lining' and decided eyebrows were needed for an otherwise almost featureless face.

Kraven from MCP

Yes, he is wearing the skin of a lion's head as a vest.

Happy with:
The loincloth made with the leopard pattern.
The skin, tried a different technique with blending instead of washes and gave much more depth the skin.
Getting so many brown variants on one model and keeping them all separate.

Not happy with: the brick dust on the grass and ground, much too heavy on what I wanted.
Could have gotten a little more definition to the mane on his vest.

Lizard [MCP]


In the standard model the rim of the manhole sits well above the level of the base, looking really odd.
So the first pic shows the base after I drilled out a hole so it would sit flush.

First using a drill hole saw I put the base upside down on a doormat and held it in place with my right foot as I don't have a clamp or vice. The damage shows why I did it upside down as it took quite a bit of effort to get it to 'bite' at the point I wanted. But well worth the effort.

The skin is all green and brown washes using GW shades.

Finished with a newspaper of Lizard vs Spiderman.

Looks excellent indeed. One of my favourite MCP models and really like (and agree with) your tweaks

Really happy with how the rubberised black suit came out.
Rather than using a blue-grey to highlight I blended up from black with sotek green and it pops so much more.
Also, the multiple half-drunk McDonald's shakes on the base.

That's really, really cool. I'm not sold on him in game, he's just a poor man's juggernaut , but your take is excellent and the colours and basing all top notch.

This model has a tiny wrist meant to hold the model, I pinned it 3 times until it was strong enough to hold, which is why the hand looks 'off'.

I had originally painted it with darker colors in the recesses, then realized that it was all wrong and went back and reversed it.
The Flames on the body is phoenix yellow (GW) and then washes to color.

Back to Black Order and Supergiant.

Went with all dry brushing again for the lighting effects, primarily because I couldn't be bothered starting up, using and cleaning my air brush.

Is she suspended by cloak-onto-magic-effect, Gonads? How steady/stable does she seem to be?

The wall is the centre piece for me in this model. Really pushed the 3d effect. There are very fine cracks molded to the wall but 99% of the effect is with paints, I just used those lines to guide me.
Also tried stippling the concrete rather than drybrush and very happy with the results.

That is superb and the wall is indeed excellent.

Entry for FLGS character painting competition this weekend.

This had been sitting on my to paint shelf for months as I wasn't sure of the colours and styles to use.
Blue steel (rather than white) with bright red was decided upon.

Love the blue steel, especially on the shoulder pad.

Great model with lots of textures to try out.
The cape goes from a dark purple with evil sunz scarlet progressively added.
Also did some reflections on the helmet of things close by.

The 3D effect on Agent Venom's wall is super impressive, well done.

Mysterio is probably my favourite piece of the last few pages - the colours on the cape are gorgeous and the helmet is pretty spectacular.

Time to get some terrain out of the way....
Hydra Turrets.

The concrete is standard for me: dawnstone, nuln oil and agrax washes, then drybrush dawnstone and administratum grey.

The metal was iron warriors, drybrush leadbelcher, nuln oil wash, stiple leadbelcher and then stipple iron breaker.
Then rush with washes of mournfang brown and skrag brown.

Quicker than it sounds with the washes taking far and away the longest to dry.

Also didn't glue down the turret tops so I can replace the rockets with the ray gun option when I get them painted.

Nice job. I've resisted the turrets this far, but did spend yesterday building the hydra tank. What do you think of the new terrain generally?

As always with MCP, expensive but good.
It definitely immerses you in the game, and is very, very different to other games I play.

The Amazing Spiderman [MCP]

Finally happy with an explosion, undercoating with dark orange then light orange then very thinned yellow to the recesses before working back up with abbadon black through to
administratum grey stippling for the smokiness.

Cracking job on the explosion and nice bit of osl around it.

Honey Badger [MCP]

This model is TINY. Likely because it is a preteen girl.
Feels smaller than true 25mm scale.
And I just realised that I need to add red to the recesses of her belt buckle.

The claws are notorious for snapping off. Mine became loose when painting, so a drop of superglue at the base seems to have stabilised them.

She looks great, and the colours really... pop yeah, I had to run a drip of superglue down mine too.

This will likely be the last post for a week or so as will be away for a 100km ultramarathon race and will be missing a chunk of next week in travel and racing.

Doctor Strange....

I love all the little bits for basing that come with the mcp models. Don’t have too many myself, don’t need another reason to buy minis. I did buy a couple though, sometimes I just can’t help myself.

The good Doctor and Mini-Me Wolverine both look great.

Fantastic take on Laura and as always basing game is top.

Tried out a speed paint scheme for upcoming 10th edition, not having played 40K for 20 years.

Very happy with the result of time vs outcome.

These 3 models took an hour and a half from spray undercoat to applying varnish.
I used a small fan to speed drying as it is pretty cool here currently, in summer I wouldn't bother.
I wanted something reproducible, natural and would not involve sub assemblies and any detailed work. Also could be used on tine bugs all the way up to the big ones.

1: Spray black
2: Abbadon black thinned to get anywhere missed
3: Heavy dry brush Stormvermin fur
4: Dry brush Baneblade brown
5: Dry brush from above karak stone
6: Dry brush edges ushabti bone
7: Wash of slightly thinned carroburg crimson on the fleshier parts
8: Evil sunz scarlet to the brains and recesses
9: Carroburg crimson heavy wash to brain
10: Redo evil sunz scarlet to the brain

Base:
1: Eshin grey
2: Dry brush dawnstone
3: Light dry brush administraum grey
4: Drybrush patches of cadian fleshtone
5: Bricks are wazkakka red and light drybrush around them for brick dust, then spots of khorne red to the brisks
6: Skulls: Ushabti bone, agrax earthshade, dry brush ushabti bone and light dry brush skull white.
7: 2 layers abbadon black to base edge

Varnish with spray satin varnish

Made a nice change to just punch out several models in a couple of hours.

Those three are super cute. I like the mushroom best. The spore/smoke coming out of it looks really good.

Wolverine [MCP]

Went with a modified version of the old tan and brown outfit, which is what I grew up with X-men comics.

Lovely shading on that yellow.

Psylocke [MCP]

Love the big bright colours. Really pops.

Captain America, Steve Rogers. [MCP]

I really wanted to push the brightness on the suit, compared to his future self, just like in the MCU movies.

That shield. OMFG. Beautiful.

Great shine on that shield!

Next up Drepur's Wraithcreepers [Warhammer Underworlds]

Lots of great stuff. Cap's shield is really shiny, well executed.

Some time off with a 106km with 4.7km of elevation ultramarathon race last weekend and recovery.

Back to the models.

Started on the models from the Leviathan box set and have 3 sets of the tyranids.

First unit is neurogaunts.
I have decided that the way to differentiate the units will be with the spot colour (evil sunz scarlet here) with the others being fiery orange and screamer pink.

6 minutes each for painting after basecoat dried using a step wise production line method.
And half of that was for the base of each model.

First unit of Von Ryan's Leapers. Since the pic was taken I added some more bright red at the ankles around the sides and back to match other models in the army.

First Neurotyrant and Neuroloids.

Second unit Neurogaunts. Orange as spot colour to differentiate from the first unit.

I really like the palette you have used. Organic and sinister.

I think I went a little heavy on the lighter drybrush levels and will be cutting back on my other units.

First Screamer Killer. Removed the rubble under its right foot and tipped him over. Could have done cuts and green-stuff to tuck the arms under, but just did some repositioning instead.

Cannot get enough of your colour scheme. So good.
