The Iceman Cometh - [MCP]
Really, really happy with this. Initially was too uniform and flat and I went back and added thinned (to the point of being a wash) light blues in newer ice and some dark washed immediately above to give greater depth and variation. Worked a treat.

Immortal Hulk [MCP]

Back again.
I have been out for the last 2 months training for and recovering a 105km ultramarathon with 4.8km elevation.
14 hours 18 minutes and finished 12th of 360 runners, lifting from my finishing in races last year and start this year at top 15-20% of all runners and putting me top 4%.
Next race (100km and 2.5km elevation) is in 3 months, so more time to prepare and the training load will be less as I already have the 'legs' and am aiming to fine tune and maintain without injury.

That and progressive filing, assembly and basing of a super secret upcoming 40K project.


Anyway. Back to the Orcs and Goblins.

2 games with him so far and he has been woeful. The random movement leaves him stranded in the open and then charged every time, very frustrating so far.
I remember in 8th he was awesome.
Just really, really bad rolling so far I guess.

The on on the right is from the rock lobber set, but the others are just regular orcs without anything in 1 hand. Each has a wrist band of some description painted to match a spot colour on the appropriate warmachine (in 8th edition they were always with the bolt throwers)

Due to the top-heavy unbalanced nature of the model with the giant banner dangling behind him, there is no way he can perch on a giant rock.

Thinking about it now though, I should have done a 'step' in the rock, tilting him forward and raising the banner.
The model is just annoying enough that I may have to redo the base....

Very happy with the explosive smoke effects at the base of his force field, trying out greys, then coloured washes.

A very difficult model to paint with the sheer number of tiny details and so many texture types.

M.O.D.O.C.K Scientist Supreme [MCP]

Sat on my workbench for months as I tried work out how to update the style from my last M.O.D.O.K. model about 5 years ago (pic at end comparing)
Then just dove in and painted him in an evening.

He looks great, he's a fun model to paint and you did a cracking job!

Professor X [MCP]

The model comes with a plastic stand that looks like a gush of smoke to suspend it in the air.
So I didn't insert that and instead it is balanced on a thick paperclip, disguised as a straw from a discarded drink cup.

That's a much cooler way of doing the Prof's base! Great job.

I love that hide job. Absolutely brilliant.

The explosion was palid whych flesh and then mix of GW yellow orange and red washes mixed with corresponding opaque colour for a mix of depth and vibrancy.

Essentially it is a huge backlog clear out of the systems I have.

Some I am getting ready to go onto:

The start of what will be my main hobby focus in 2025.

This army goes back to their release in 97 and I purchased the original limited release box.
Then I bought a few more boxes.

Then in 1999 I lived in the UK for a year and utilised their direct order system and bought lots, and lots of specific models.

95-2003 was my golden era for 40K, the games were fun, the models had character, a low income male with no kids could afford to buy bucket loads of models, not like today.

I sold the army back in 2004 to get me through 2nd year medical school and lo and behold I found the army and rebought most of it.

Coupled with models I did not sell/were stored elsewhere and did not sell I have quite the collection saved up.

Time to get going on it.

Looking good! Man I miss when there was such a variety of the GW guard minis. I've slowly been turning all my metal ones into Vostroyans so I can consolidate my unpainted minis. I love how the bases match the uniforms. Makes the helmets pop!

This model sat undercoated in Blood Angels Red since 2000, dismantled in my 54mm Inquisitor box, until the end of last year. Stripped, and 14 hours of painting later and I am satisfied.... I truly love painting my Inquisitor scale models and I have 30 or so to go.

The shoulder pad red was taken from a Trovarion Miniatures blood angels guide on youtube with the last step being the most amazing revelation I have had in painting red in 36 years of painting blood angels....
Rhinox hide.

Mephiston red and evil sunz scarlet stippled
Evil sunz scarlet stippled
Evil sunz scarlet and (old) space wolves grey (closest approximation now would be Blue Horror..... stippled. I do not know how but the blue makes the red pop like nothing I have ever seen.

I think there are about 6 layers of varying greys over abbadon black to give a light black so that I could do all the scratches which are dots or lines of abbadon black, then underlined with eshin grey and very fine underlay of dawnstone.

I played Iyanden back in 2nd and 3rd edition, so used that paint scheme.

If GW would release these old Inquisitor models as made to order, or as a boutique line specifically to buy and paint I would expect that they would sell like hotcakes.

The rubbish/posters/newspapers on the ground is a great part of MCP to add character.

Painting teeny-tiny writing on cans and bottles is a challenge, but one gratefully taken on.

A quick model.

Had to re-pin the right wrist with a paperclip after the original joint snapped when dry brushing early on in the painting process.
The safety notice was washed with thinned PVA/Wood glue to stiffen and then 2 drops of glue to hold it in its precarious position, used some clippers to hold it in position until the glue dried.

t has always struck me as odd that a stealth sniper gets around in a black body suit, except in the darkest of locations it would make the assassin stand out like a sore thumb.

Very nicely done! An unusual camo scheme and perfectly suited to its environment.

I read somewhere that we get our Western idea of 'ninjas' and assassins wearing black from Japanese theatre. Apparently, the stagehands dressed in black to be unobtrusive as they manipulated the stage settings. The character of the 'assassin' would also dress in black- to blend in with the stagehands! When he popped out and did the deed it took the audience completely by surprise. Westerners seeing that made the incorrect conclusion that this was the manner in which ninjas dressed, rather than drawing the correct conclusion that they would dress to blend in with whatever environment they were operating in.

Although all those great 80's movies with Sho Kusogi and Cynthia Rothrock would have been a lot different without modern 'ninjas' leaping about....

Finally cracked the extra MCP model this month to get me 1 full month ahead.

Have been furiously assembling Dusk models for Warmachine as it has exploded in my local town with new and old players appearing everywhere.
So I expect a great variance in what I was planning on painting for the year when that comes through, but my first 4 goals are set in stone to achieve.
The necromunda and MCP terrain are looking shaky though.

This weeks assembly effort is another 6 of these, and hopefully 6 mortars. I am very assembly time poor but always get in 7 hours of painting per week.

Some great, old school builds there- nice paint!
