Aye, always remember that it only takes exactly 2 people for an eBay item to reach stupidly high prices. Looking though the bidding history, there are in fact rarely more than 2 people in the upper 50% of the bids.
Still surprised the $500 "buy it now" one sold as quickly as it did. Looks like most ones up for auction at least won't quite get that high (though anything can happen with a few days left).
I've no issue with people spending their money how they wish, may this become a the same status symbol that Skullz tech priests and FW titans were before the age of recasts.
Of course this makes it harder for GW to ever offer this again since FLGSs would then have to take heat for destroying the value of collectors' item.

Ah well.
Nah. GW would be the ones taking the heat, since the model was intended to be a store anniversary model from July 6th onwards. Meaning independents would never have had the model in the first place.
To be fair that's a store owner who has done enormous work for his local community and putting on events. He had to start a gofundme for his two stores to keep from going under. He's been a part of his community for 3 decades or more. That sale was most likely to a local looking to get something for helping his local flgs stay afloat.
That's cool, but I was just providing an example.
Doesn't matter to me who sells or buys, just pointing it out.

You're assuming rationality on the part of this fanbase?

Absolutely not...but I am assuming that whenever there's a chance to blame GW for something, it'll be taken.
Okay, I'm re-opening the thread after removing an OT argument. Please remember that, despite world circumstances, we're talking about toy soldier news here. There is no need to resort to personal attacks just because someone views the distribution of this model differently. You can disagree strongly... we only ask that you do it politely!
I think it’s a sweet mini, and I’m just sad that I probably won’t own it anytime soon, if ever. Could be a nice start to rebooting catachans, because dear god those ancient plastics are a joke now.

Some of the bigger names in painting have been, apparently, asked by their local independents to paint them up for raffles/charity drives for their stores.

Yeah, its got the quality, but then all the new GW stuff does really.. I dont know if its got enough pull to have me get one. I prefer the alternate head.

Makes you wonder if GW have set up this pr stunt knowing they'll all be sold on ebay. Then they can look at the prices and think about selling their own limited editions for sky high prices in future.
More likely it was just intended as a quick PR stunt. The LFGS' get to deal with the annoyed customers, GW have another thing their diehards can point at and go, "Look the Nu!GW are nice now!"
For Australians Emerald Hobbies are doing a giveaway that's pretty easy to enter.
So Emerald Hobbies received the Limited Edition Catachan Colonel model. After all the interest and hype, we were really excited to get them out to our customers. But there was a catch, the number we received could be counted on less than one hand.
After considering the moral implications of flipping them on Ebay for millions and retiring to drink Mai Tais on a tropical island, we decided we should give back to our customers and the community who support us.
So we're going to give them away.
You can enter the competition three ways -
1. Like, Share and Tag a Friend on Facebook in the comments section of this post.
2. Follow Emerald Hobbies on Twitter https://twitter.com/EmeraldHobbies. Like and Retweet the pinned tweet.
3. During the month of June, spend $50 or more on Games Workshop products at Emerald Hobbies.
Competition closes 11:59pm 30/06/2020. Winners will be drawn 01/07/2020.
Competition is open to Australian residents 18 years or older.
