gobert wrote:Cool lights, hopefully you can get them fixed to frame with better tape. The sump is developing nicely and I definitely like the black on the new platform

Thanks, part of the problem was I had no black tape, so had to use white stuff that's mainly for shrink wrapping so relies on being flamed to properly seal...
Olthannon wrote:Man I love stuff like that, lighting on game boards is just so cool. Really nice scenery!

Thanks, it's mainly to give some colour options for back lighting, unfortunately, the white light photos as blue
Dirk Reinecke wrote:Excellent work on the Necromunda terrain. I look forward to seeing what you do with you new supply drop.

Thanks, I look forward to seeing what I do too...
youwashock wrote:Lots of cool stuff happening here. Love the train. A super cool and unique piece. The sump diver is a great idea. And you even built a place for him to hang out!

Thanks, I've actually done a bit of work on the boat, got an angled front on it, but I keep forgetting to take photos...

So first up:

MOAR TAPE!
Still couldn't find my black tape so used yellow, but this time I put a few extra bits on it.
If it falls now, I'm gonna have staple it or something...

Finished painting the sump silos:

For the "liquid" I used the dark green foundation paint then lightly stippled a swirl or two of orange after that I stippled some tesseract green in swirls and then filled in the gaps with more.
The floating rust crust(?) was done with some lamian medium and white contrast, trying to blend it out towards the middle...
Quite happy with it and now I have an test for if/when I paint my sump boards...

Started on another tower:

I liked the SecMech platform I did earlier and wanted to do a taller one. Also wanted to integrate the ladder and add a replacement wall to save the ZM pieces:

(Ignore the Necrons, that's what I'm doing, even though I have only a week left to finish them...)
This is my result, I've added in a few bits from the marketplace set, cut the awning a bit so it fits in my grid limits.
Put a box and an offcut chunk to provide some support to the frame. It is not glued to the floor for modularity...

I then measured and cut up one of the fences to act as platform extensions to reach another platform.
That's it for now...

Nice work, love that scum on the top of the liquid, that looks properly realistic.

Just another day left to get these guys finished:

Colour isn't far enough away from my test models for me, not enjoying these as much, probably the paint scheme...

Beautiful ZM terrain. I like the use of third party materials. That last tower looks fantastic.

Warboss_Waaazag wrote:Beautiful ZM terrain. I like the use of third party materials. That last tower looks fantastic.

Thank you, trying to get more variety out of the ZM kit. I do use like 90% GW kit though but I'm trying to get away from that.

Anyways this month I've been struggling to keep up with a "unit a month thing", I choose the Necron warriors that I got with Imperium magazine and couldn't get into them...
But last couple of days I sat down and forced myself to get them done:

Not a great picture due to putting the finishing touches on them five seconds from bed...
But I didn't have a good time with them mainly due to not replicating my test colour scheme very well.
They are however easier to do and the colour shift is much more noticeable
Also finished me some Scarabs:

And changed up the glow on the Royal Warden:

I really like the Tesseract Greens fluorescent look and it feels more correct than the orange I was previously using
Now I have some breathing space to do what I like for a while, maybe I'll finish building the outcasts...

The green looks cool on the Necrons, green works well with purple I think. The lights and new terrain look cool, as for the new gangers

Thanks, but I'm half regretting it because I'm not sure how to translate it onto the bigger necrons...
gobert wrote:The green looks cool on the Necrons, green works well with purple I think. The lights and new terrain look cool, as for the new gangers

Thank you, I love the tesseract glow paint, I think I'm gonna need to find some more florescent paints...

Anyways onto what I've been up to...
First up some Ur Ghuls:

These guys were very simple, Dawnstone, Agrax, drybrush Dawnstone back on and a final drybrush of Celestra grey.
I chopped the slottatab into some pegs to pin them to the bases and then started using the LED strips to do some fancy lighting:

With those guys photo'd I started picking out random minis to have a go at, playing around with lighting colours and the settings on my phone:

Also finished up my Forgeborn and the single Stimmer I have left:

Redone base layers post wash

What I'm calling done

Better run, better run, out run my gun...

We can do it!

New kids on the block

Bigger is better...

Also did a small bit of work on my sump diver, couldn't find arms I liked so made my own:

Just sprue slurry over a wire armature

Bulking up

Final layer, gonna do a bit of sanding and carving when that's dry and maybe add some thing to it...

Then I got my Imperium magazines and received this guy:

He has a very blanchitsu vibe to the sculpt, and while its way out of my painting style...

...I've been trying to keep it grimey...

...And I'm happy with my results so far...
Most of the painting has been done with stippling and with less bright colours than I normally use.
Red is an old terracotta paint highlighted with the very red looking skin paint, (will update when I can check the paint labels)
All the lights where white and Tesseract glow, the brightness of the colours makes an excellent contrast to his robes.
Obviously I now have to replicate it on his arms and weapons now and I'm currently making a zone mortalis base big enough for him...
The official ones only go up to 40mm and I believe he needs a 60mm one...

See you next time for more fun!

The lights work really well at giving the Blackstone Fortress vibe. The Ur-Ghuls look great. I did a very similar scheme but yours seem to have a bit more definition, I might need to go a step brighter on the highlights.

Loving the Ad-mech dude. I think you’re hitting the blanchitsu style pretty well, and the tesseract glow gives a great contrast to the grime

Been a bit ill, massive headache and trying to read dakka dakka on tiny phone screen hasn't been fun which means I haven't been keeping up with peoples blogs very well, or my own for that matter...
Thanks for the kind words *squints* Gobert and Vertibi
Managed to do a bit before my partner tested positive for Covid, quarantining my hobby space, yay.
Presenting Dominus Amstrad:

I noticed his metalwork seemed a bit bright and the use of washes didn't really bring it where I wanted, so I ended up splodging some dryad bark on and wiping it off, sort of like how you do an oil wash with out sacrificing a paint brush.

Here's the base as it was after making it:

unfortunately I didn't take any WIP photos of it, but it was made form some left over bits from a ZM floor tile and a 60mm base with the top cut off leaving the rim. A lot of cutting and filing later the rim and the ZM bit were glued together with sprue slurry and then sanded for smoothness...
Not perfect but I'm happy with it...

Thanks,
Well now have finally joined my partner in quarantine, I can get back to some hobbying:
Got me some more base layers on some cultists that I started two years ago...
They'll probably be my unit of the month:

Just gotta get another brown layer on them and then they can have an Agrax wash.
Colours are just all the browns and greys I have for their rags and some Sotek green for the armour...

I've also been picking at the Outcasts kit for a while trying to make "civilian" Underhivers, for some reason I haven't put any pictures up:

And finally, a bit of work on my Sump Diver:

Stuck some green stuff on them to make some gauntlets, elbow pads and some folds a bit of sanding later should sort them out...

Thanks, I'm very happy with him myself, might have to repaint my two Skitarii to match him...

Any how been off with COVID so surely lots of time for hobby?
Turns out no, I discovered game called Tunic on game pass and that's been keeping my brain busy all week...
Did get a surprising amount done this weekend though...
Aside from a lot of catching up on Dakka Dakka plogs, I started smashing together bits out of my terrain box:

Not sure what I'm doing with these yet, just making progress...

Managed to finish off some cultists for March's unit:

Not quite finished as I ran out of painted bases so I fixed that while watch Babylon 5:

While waiting between layers on the cultists I slapped some paint on this guy:

It was not fun, the cast is terrible and undefined, maybe I'm just to used to modern stuff...

And finally, the Sump Diver:

Tried to copy the grubby look that Amstrad had with this one using mostly stippling, but switching over to regular layers for the visor..
I had a hell of a time trying to make it look as if they'd just come out of the sump and then gave up and settled for some splashes...

Untill next time!

Love the toilet! it may have been a pain to paint, but it looks pretty cool.

The blue and green on the cultists is really nice, they’ll look great on their new bases.

The sump diver looks great, you could hardly tell he wasn’t a bought mini. The shine of the green light adds a really cool effect as well

Excellent work on the diver and all the bits- I envy your productivity!

A possibility for motive power for your sump boat is maybe something I saw in Thailand where the sampans had a 4 cylinder car engine with a steering arm mounted to it and the whole weight of it was counter-balanced by a very long prop shaft:

Good luck with whichever route your choose!

Thanks, I think I may have to build something from scratch...

After all that catching up, here's this week's progress:

Finally started on my Tau hab domes.
I've had the parts for years now, and the concept for even longer, just some polystyrene hemispheres with some slightly naughty resin bits I had knocking around...
A bit of miliput for gap filling and then some spray mount glue and sand:

Left over miliput went into press mold:

I'm sure I can find something to do with this...

Next is some more zone mortalis stuff...

Finally painted another tile, this one with a sump corner, I actually finished this one with some additional stippling, splatters and bit of detailing, but forgot to take a pic.

Also got my platform tower done, forgot to take a pic of the top, but it's pretty much the same as my previous platform...

See you next time

Thanks, 3 man aggressors for my April unit it is!

So with the plan to do some more Howling Griffons this month, I got some red and yellow contrast paint and tried it out:

Not great, oh well I can easily use the colours for lights instead...
No short cuts for me this week:

Wazdakka Red, Averland Sunset, Eshin grey, some Leadbelcher and then an Agrax Earthshade wash.
Plan is to layer up with the base colours and then brightenil it with Evil Sunz Scarlet and another yellow, before adding some edge highlights...

Also started working on a double height door:

The green stuff has not worked very well as a filler so will be changing that for some sprue slurry...

The door frame has been trimmed to fit and a topper from the double wall piece fits almost perfect with my arrangement
Plan is to build a double high wall to go with it but I'm looking for ways to save pillar bits...

Glad I came by this blog, looks to be a lot of cool stuff going on. Will have to have a proper read through from the start when I get some more time.
Good start on the aggressors, nice solid base to work from. You definitely made a good choice going with the non contrast route.

Even better, it's a great look for a simple technique! The Howling Griffons look good, I always fancied painting them up after I saw them in an old WD. I've zero experience with contrast paints so I have no idea, is the yellow a little too thick?

Door looks cool too!

CB is spot on, might feel like you've not done much but if you're feeling utterly demotivated, getting even a wee bit done is a big win. It's easy to sack the lot off entirely

By the way, virtual painting night is such a good idea CB!

Picking away at stuff yesterday:

Putting some tents together, idea being for Ash Wastes.
A bit of filing and cutting was required to have fabric walls for the big tent

Also put some bits together for another elevated crane:

This time its going on a ZM tower, that I can hopefully stack on another tower later for extra hieght.
I noticed that the crane base sort of fits diagonally over a ZM pillar so I cut off the remaining bits (badly)

Plan is to add some garden wire cables and a control point...

Started work on some Outcasts...

These guys have been on my desk for a while, slowly being added to in an attempt to get Underhive Civilians...

Well I noticed that I had some spare Van Saar bits while trying to find empty hands:

Tada! A Van Saar bounty hunter. Much civilian...

We got a worker with a rocksaw:

Obviously part of a clean up or maintenance crew removing obstructing debris

We got a man with a mug:

I'm tentatively calling him Mugsy Balone... Could be a barman or patron, maybe even a shift manager...

Penultimatly we have an Underhive doctor of some sort...

And finally from me I picked up my copy of Ash Wastes today on the way to the cinema to watch Doctor Strange and the Mountain Multiverse of Madness.
It's a very heavy box and while walking I nearly kneecapped my self with a swinging corner.
Got it home now so smelling all the new plastic goodness and starting building stuff already...

Some thing weird that I noticed however is the Outrider -- uh -- rider is significantly larger than a standard Orlock, but their heads and shoulder pads look compatible...
As for the rules, I don't really care, probably just going to scan through them for fluff and pretty pictures...

Napoleonics gamers have long had the idea of 'eye candy' on the table: non-playing units that are there simply for the look and because they are fun to build and paint- like commissariat, encampment, sutlers, etc. I've long held that Warhammer should have these as well; if nothing lese they are sight blocking (at least until the multi-melta hits 'em). Nice looking crew you've put together.

So playing around with fitting the AW (ash wastes) hab units this week:

The tall platform set up is two ZM platforms high, which means one SecMech platform tall.

It can also be built one ZM platform high:

The hab unit is about one ZM platform high, give or take a few mm...

The hab unit itself fits neatly inside a 3x3 ZM tile thing, forgot to show a pick, but the AW pillar does not go on top the ZM tiles very neatly.

I've since built both the Outrider quads and put some base layers on them and I don't like them.
Sure they look cool, but whoever designed how they were assembled needs to share a cell with the person who did the Stronghold walls.
The only point of contact between the riders legs and torso is literally their belt buckle.
A lot of the bits in the quad are small and easy to break and you have to paint before assembling.
On the plus side the gun mount can rotate or be removed

I think the Ash Wastes need an AdMech presence...

Looks like the ash wasted terrain will be a good match for the rest of the Necromunda stuff. Good luck meshing it all together! Good to see that the airlocks won’t go to waste and will expand the Ad Mech influence

Haha yeah, but it does reduce the number of "proper" Skitarii

Anyways the first thing up this week is a present from my partner:

Some weird altars...
My partner keeps threatening to start up a D&D campaign and *shudders* invite people into the house so I suspect more similar gifts in the future.

I just straight up copied my Blackstone necrons scheme and added a glow to one of them for a swappable active one

I had a few hours to my self and plenty of nice weather so used the opportunity to get some stuff spray primed:

Used up two cans of primer but now I have one less excuse not to start painting terrain...

Started on this guy a while ago:

Not sold on his green outfit, definitely sold on the red bike though...
For some reason the Agrax Earthshade wash came up very glossy on this one, probably because I was more liberal with it than normal...

This guy also has the honour of being my test ash wastes base. It's Astrogranite painted over with Clestra grey and then Skeleton Horde contrast.
Got a very handy spreader and tutorial in this month's Imperium Magazine...
Plan is to drybrush with some cream later, probably pallid flesh.
I also plan to use this method on the legs of the AW hab units...

The Outrider Quads are getting there:

Done the wheels black to start with then added the Contrast White, which matches Clestra grey nicely, and then some Skeleton Horde. Again plan is a drybrush to finish it...

My ash wastes Skitarii gets some friends:

Now I have an idea of what to do, these guys were a bit easier and neater.
No idea what their guns are or do, just went with what looks cool.
I spotted a Forge World scheme in one of this months Imperium Magazine, black robes/coats, red armour and grey undersuit as well as being considered dodgy by other AdMech Forge Worlds, sounds perfect...
They may be joined by a grungy Kataphron later as their "brute"

Lastly built up another regular Orlock with the intention of having a guy with harpoon launcher...

Good job I never get distracted halfway through anything...
Super easy conversion really, just trimmed a few bits off the spare heavy bolter from the quad and fitted it as if it were the regular heavy weapon choice...

Till next time!

Love the ash wastes Skitarii, that Orlock kit looks good with the vanguard helmets.

I quite like the green on the biker, it's a nice contrast from the bike. The red bike looks excellent, great weathering!

Is that a purple beard on the outrider?

Thanks, yeah if you look the original (N17) orlock heavy weapons have bits for pintle mounts on the bottom as well, so I though I'd keep it on...

Haha yeah, unfortunately our previous attempts to use minis in D&D have just been forgotten as soon as interesting stuff happens, but my partner has been collecting a whole load of the printed card terrain for a few years now...

Not been up to a lot lately, just moved onto night shift so sleeping is a bit erratic at the moment
But I did notice that I had forgotten to start painting the gunners for my quads:

Put some AdMech arms on an outcast with a hood, great idea but I think I have the wrong arms for it...

Just also remembered that I'm supposed to be doing a unit a month:

Thanks, the main objective behind it is to actually finish painting my Tau, but I keep getting distracted by other stuff...

So made the deadline with the Kroot, just because they're super easy:

Literally just colour, Agrax and colour again, trying to keep the last layer in stripes for a bit of texture...
Bases used that grey sand paint the I received with the Imperium Magazine which, although looks different, is a lot easier to use than my original basing method.
Unfortunately I am missing the flock I originally used with the static grass, but it's not really noticeable...

There were some conversions on the original models too so they get some highlights:

A standard bearer, thier hand and rifle is missing, shall have to find it next time I have a clear out of my desk...

We have a musician as well, Blue Beak the Bard, and they now have me pondering the sort of music that Kroot would produce, probably not a lot of wind instruments...

And finally Fish eater, stuffing their face with bits from an WHFB Empire Cannon...

That's all for now see you next time

A unit a month is a good idea to keep the progress going on an army, and even better if you have quick units to help keep you on track! The kroot came out well, I quite like that the banner bearer is missing a hand, it gives him a bit of a back story!

Thank you, I actually found thier hand recently and promptly lost it again, perhaps I'll give them a stump later.

Started working on some more terrain, basic idea was to make some sort of portable generator for Ash Wastes:

Plan is to put that in there...

Very carefully cut the side bits off so that I can use those bits again later

I then glued some signpost plastic into the gaps and glued the container together.
You may notice it's suddenly painted, it just a older one that I mangled for a previous project, to save on the nice pieces...

Boom, fits nicely.
Still removable at the moment for painting, gonna fill the gap inside with cables and computers...

Started on the half silo:

Seeing as it's going on its side, I'm gonna need to cap the ends

Bottom gets some Mantic pipes

Top gets a flag as a curtain...

Also working on some bits for my ash wastes AdMech warband:

Kataphron ended up having its top half swapped with the heavy stubber torso from the Dune rider to downgrade the weapons loadout.
Its on a magnet so I can swap it out later.
The servo skull on the enginseer snapped off so it gets an extra cable to hold it place.

Signed up to Instagram recently, mostly to find more minis to look at, but it is very easy and quick to post up my own minis and WIPs
@eyemonolyth if you're interested
See you next time

Loving the ash wastes scatter kitbashes, they’ll add some great obstacles for the bikes and buggies.

The ad mech are looking great, really fitting the ash wastes explorer theme well. The red and black look nice and brooding too

Thanks, the flag's from the Scion kit, I don't like the other side of it, too specific, so finding a use for the Aquila side was great

Thanks! The stubble is a mix of some Vortex Blue (very OOP, used for the hair), Agrax Earthshade and water at mix of something like 1:3:6, not sure I eyeballed it

Anyways onto my week:
Got my Outriders finished:

Did the tyres different on each quad:
one I used Eshin Grey, White Contrast, Skeleton Horde, and a drybrush of Pallid Flesh...
The other was painted Celestra Grey, sloppily dry brushed with black, Skeleton Horde again, drybrush of Pallid Flesh...
Seemed like the second way would be better for larger pieces like terrain so:

Got started on some Ash Wastes terrain, I'm happy with how it's come out so far

Spruced up Iratus for an Instagram shoot:

Just put a few purple washes on him and fixed up some little bits that were... Irritating me...

Also had an idea but couldn't find the right hand for it so:

I tried sculpting my own, took me two tries and a few hours, but got something I was happy with and the right scale

Finally I also started on something I wanted to do for a while, make a physical version of my avatar:

Started with some slabs of sign board

Drilled and carved a hole for a 6mm BB that had been rolled around on some sand paper for grip

Covered it in sprue slurry to help with gaps and stuff and while I had the green stuff out worked on the eyelids.
That should be cured today so I'll be poking that later...
Just gotta do like 8 tentacles... Already made up some armatures on a holder for them

See you next time!

So been up to a few things this week despite my shift pattern (and thus my sleep) being all over the place...
First us I had an idea to make a server/wait staff for a party:

This is what I needed the hand for...
I did try to make little goblets for the tray but they turned out too fragile to make at the right scale, so settled on some tumblers instead, bottle is some whittled down sprue...

Made some tentacles for my Eye Monolyth from Fimo:

I made a lot more than I'd need so I could experiment with fit...
The ones I wanted to keep got positioned on blue tac
and then blended together with green stuff.
They then got primed with old foundation paint, sanded, primed, sanded and primed until I was happy enough with the results:

Just gotta paint it now, which is going to be awkward seeing as the original image has a colour shift effect on it...

Also did a repaint of my Skorpius Dunerider.
I thought it looked like a British LCU so I had painted it as one, but I has decided to replace the original brown with red as well and adding build ups of dirt from the ash wastes:

Can't avoid the ash...

I originally bought it a while ago with the intention of using it as a sump boat, I thought I'd return it to it's intended purpose as an AdMech transport.

See you, space cowboys!

Thanks, a full noble party is getting put on the list of things I want to do but probably never will...

+++
Anyways, today's update is a bit all over the place...
First up, I finally painted up my Monolyth avatar:

With a bit of drybrushing and stippling I managed to get a nice colour transition...
Seeing as I wasn't really able to model the ridges on the tentacles, I painted them on instead...
Here they are finished:

+++
Next up I made an Ash Wastes scrap pile:

Made out of scraps...

It about the right size to stick between two ZM pillars in case I want to use it in the Underhive...
+++
I have been working on some interior stuff for the Ash Wastes hab unit:

I wasn't a fan of the massive holes in the floor so I covered them with some plasticard ...

Got some 3mm signboard to block off a doorway with some rivets I had saved and a Mantic greeble for the outside...
It took a while to do as when I first assembled them I had glued the roof down for some stupid reason...
Also made a table:

+++
Got some new storage solutions for my bitz box:

A lot more room now, and less chance of catastrophe if I drop them... Again...
+++
Started assembling some of the TT Combat boards to glue my ZM tiles on:

Cut a hole in one.
I'll be honest, I wasn't that impressed with them, they were caked in soot that kept rubbing off, even after I scrubbed it wit a rag and the fit wasn't brilliant, requiring me to trim many of the tabs...
+++
Also thought I'd try out these things...

It took a while to get them as I kept forgetting to pick them up from the drop off, at one point I was in the building next door and still forgot them.
A test:

While rinsing the brush, I noticed:

Bubbles!

Had an idea so put some very quick basic colours on a chaos marine with an Agrax wash:

Weapons (leadbelcher) were picked out with rust and the whole model coated in the verdigris:

Then with a damp brush I wiped it down and added some details:

+++
That's all for now!
I think...

Anyways, due to helping with house moving, I've only been picking at things this week, mostly scatter bits from TT Combat:

I am slightly annoyed at the print lines on some bits considering that they're resin casts....

Plan is to clutter up an AW hab unit to make it lived in...

Also got a tent, not sure if I am going to use it for ash wastes:

But if I do I'll weather it up...

+++

There were some stumps and log piles included in my blisters that are definitely not Ash Wastes stuff so I made a campfire, primarily for D&D:

Just superglued them down onto to a sign board circle And covered the lot in Astrogranite...

Base colours, Dryad Bark for the logs and Steel Legion Drab for the earth...

Drybrushed Flayed One Flesh and copious amounts of static grass...

That's all folks!

Amazing hub unit and the added stuff really makes them look inhabited. And the action shot actually gave me also a bit of The Matrix vibes with the chesterfield

Thanks all, not been up to much, life's being a bit much at the moment.
Some Stealth Suits are on the queue for unit of the month:

Other than that, I've just been picking at some Orlocks to get them all up to the same level of painting...

So scraped in the unit of the month, put the finishing touches on some XV25 stealth suits last night...
Presenting Delta Alpha Two ( at least I think that's what the tag is saying):

+++
In other news looking on Instagram made me sketch somebody else's idea:

That I then made a good attempt to build:

I've put some pipes and platforms on the curved surfaces so the there is somewhere for minis to balance...

+++
Went exploring small independent game shops around my city and picked up this guy:

Was labeled as a Gazer and looked similar to my Avi (geometric shape with tentacles), so didn't realize that it was an off brand Beholder until I built it, but hey, something new to do...
+++
Lastly some updated Orlock shots:

They're roughly the same level of painting now and I've made an attempt to give them all mirrored shades...

+++
See you space cowboy!

The tower looks fancy, is it some kind of fixed gun? The sketch looks like it has a barrel and plasma coils?

I love how moody the orkocks look in their pics. The coloured lighting is a great addition to your scenery.

Been a bit difficult to do anything lately due to the heat that seems to be bothering all us Brits, but I have managed to polish off a bunch of unfinished terrain...

Here's the plasma whatsit that I have stuck on its side for interest...
Had to chop off and replace the little nubbin on the top to get it to fit in my 3*3 ZM grid pattern.

Got lots of pics of all my terrain at the moment, like fifty pics,which dakkadakka is not going to enjoy uploading, so gonna have to ration them out.
On the bright side I'm probably sorted for Instagram posts for the foreseeable future...

+++

Onto the Ridgehauler...

It's been done up with an Orlock crew and their colours (sorry no red):

I wasn't a fan of the new guilders as crew, or their weapon systems for that matter so with a bit of hacking:

Was not an easy conversion, a lot of little cuts and checking fit and filling gaps just to get some contact points...
But worth it.
Just gotta get the navigator in there as well which is gonna be tricky, especially as I don't want to do the wrist mounted satnav...

See you next time!

Thanks! While it is possible to convert the crew, it's not easy, not very many surfaces touch without gap filling, on the bright side, because they're in such a small space, you can get away with some dodgy positioning ...
+++
Speaking of dodgy positioning...

Started working on a Navigator for my Orlock Ridgehauler.
Legs are from the Ridgehauler, torso is Catachan and arms are Orlock.
Idea is for them to be a Juvie earning the right to drive, so they're a bit smaller than the rest of the crew (in order to fit the space I have left in the cabin.
There's a young looking Van Saar head that I'm trying to put hair on but I seem to have lost my green stuff...
+++
Also some terrain pics:

These were made because I wanted to find a use for the doors I had from one of the Kill Team sets (Rouge Trader?) As well as not using up all my ZM wall bits...
The undersides of the flooring was pretty much carved out to make room for the pipes, should probably have taken some pics to show...
+++
On holiday soon so who knows if I update next week, but I still haven't started my unit of the month yet, I'm thinking Tau Pathfinders...

lordbickerstaff wrote:Those Eschers are fantastic nicely done

Escher? I've almost forgotten about them, gonna need a vehicle for them, but I don't like the jet bikes GW brought out, too high tech
+++
Anyways all I've had time for is Pathfinders this week, I'm on holiday now and the internet is terrible...

Not sure I like the idea of the Ion rifles giving the Shas'la cancer, definitely a 40k thing, just fits better for the Imperium rather than the Tau
Also painted this thing up, not sure what it is (other than a stationary missile drone) as I don't have it's codex:

Lastly, seeing as you're not supposed to take Pathfinders without a Devilfish:

Although apparently in modern 40k they're no longer a requirement...
Gotta figure out how I'm putting colours down, need more steel legion drab on it.
Engines are way behind due to needing lots of gap filling ...
+++
Decided not to bring any painting stuff with me on holiday but partner decided to bring along this:

Idea is to ease the friends we're staying with into roleplay so that my partner gets a chance to start using some of their impressive collection of D&D stuff...

That's it for now, see you next time!

Haha I didn't notice that, shame I didn't give her a white coat

Been trying to get my Inq28 on, it's a genre(?) Along with Blanchitsu I absolutely love looking at but struggle to actually replicate.
So finally finished my attempt at an inquisitor:

I'm provisionly calling her Miss Fister, but deffo need something more, uh, appropriate...
Main body is a SOB cannoness (?) with a Palanite Enforcer (or Subjugator) shoulder armour and an Orlock powerfist...
Some WIP:

Apart from an initial drybrush of Dawnstone over black, she's all contrast paints to try and get that grimdark look...

+++

Obviously an Inquistor need some followers:

Left is a Repentia(?) That's had some surprisingly well fitting arms from an Escher Deathmaiden and face from a regular Escher ganger...
For some reason I base coated them like I normally would instead of trying the contrast method, probably because I don't have that many contrast paints and payday is a long way away...

+++

Did a bit of green stuff on a nomad biker:

And started assembling some regular nomads, no picks yet...

+++

Lastly, I put some base layers on my civilians:

The Cultist (bottom left) got bit of a change, I decided the Admech rifle wasn't good as an indicator for her devotion to the cult of the machine, she now has a ZM doors computer for a backpack and is holding one of the smaller arms from a Kataphron servitor ...

+++

That's all folks!

Lots of cool progress Guardling. The grimdark experiment looks to have worked pretty well. I wonder if a slightly lighter grey on a few areas like her face would have given them a bit more focus?

The nomads are looking like a fantastically ragtag bunch. Plenty of variety to keep the interest going. I hope the white and orange dude keeps a similar scheme, he looks cool

The Cultist:

Jarree is not very bright, but she loves the Machine and has worshipped the Mechanicus since she was young.
She wishes to be a Techpriest herself.
The Dominus tells her this can be done after a year of service in the Skitarii, but once she is there, she may have a change of mind...

The Fool:

Pula was once a well liked and respected man who successfully conviced his work crew to demand better pay from the guilds.
It is said that, during celebrations with his friends, a band of hired thugs snuck into the outpost and beat him into a coma.
His friends cannot look him in the eye.

Thanks, I did highlight a few key areas like the face with white.

Kid_Kyoto wrote:Zombie sprue severed head?

Man that was a good set.

I think it's from the skeletons command sprue, it was originally attached to a ladder of bones.
It's been in my bits box for at least 20 years from when I had a small skele/vamp WHFB army
+++
Anyways been up to lot of assembling lately...
First up some additional Underhive Civilians:

These are the Guide, the Witch and the Guilder.
Painted up two of them late last night but still working on their stories...

+++

Had a Kataphron torso kinda going spare, so sorted out a spare set of Ambot legs for him:

It's got a magnet in it so I can swap the torso out for the Dunerider one

+++

Finally got round to assembling my Ash Wastes Nomads:

These two are set up as a heavy weapons team, with a bit of converting for the spotter/loader to have a slung weapon

One sniper got their rifle from the bug rider, the other got one of the rifles from the Underhive market kit. Design language says air rifle/dart gun to me

Boss gets a bolt pistol from a OG plastic Orlock and thier partner get dual pistols thanks to the bug riders...

The rest are pretty much stock, except one has had the missiles cut off their backpack and replaced with a canister...

+++

Then I realised I had all these Underhive Outcast arms with no bodies and loads of old Empire Militia bits so...

Like the look of them so far, tried a few heads out on them looks like Orlock heads are the way to go as everything else is either too big or too small...
Probably going to add some pouches and green stuff straps or bindings later.

+++

Lastly made some more terrain:

Not sure what this is yet, I had a broken bit of SechMech floor so elevated it to the height of a ZM floor and added some pipe and Miliput.

This is just some curved sprues that I thought could look good as a sort of metal "skeleton in the desert" thing...

+++

That's all for now

His mother called him Nugget, first as a term of endearment, now with disgust.
Just like his uncaring mother he hears whispers, but unlike her, he does not hear secrets...
Instead they chant with glee each time he hears the squeal of pain from a small animal.
Perhaps he should start on something bigger, after all, he no longer needs to use his hands.

I like to think the Cultist is super dumb and thinks that if she just slaps some tech in her ports she's AdMech and the Dominus wants nothing to do with her, hence trying to pass her off to the Skitarii..
The puppet is from the Frostgrave Female Wizards set, I saw they had a nice selection of bare hands, they're a little small but look okay when paired together. You'll probably see quite a few of those bits in my paint queue...

Anyways not much done this week, painted The Drunk, then realised her story was a bit anemic, so I then realised that she needs a bar for the background of her shot:

I agree, you could probably mix in a few bits from the cultists or traitor guard...

gobert wrote:Lots of cool work still going on here. The stories are great, am I right in thinking the drunks husband is now a Servitor? Hopefully you’ve got a mini lined up for him if he is!

Haha, no, but that's actually a better idea than what I was hinting at.
There are a few strands between some characters and about half of them are in the same web

+++

Anyways, as you may of noticed I picked up the Into The Dark Kill Team box, mainly for the terrain, then for the Navy Breachers and then the CAT...
Oh and Kroot too, just to add to my Tau:

Got some base layers on and a wash, built them as regular warriors to fit into 40k (at least until tau get Kroot shotties).
Heads are compatible old Kroot, and so are some of the arms, so there are a few old bits on my new Kroot.
For some reason I thought that the Hounds seemed a bit large so I finished them up and took a comparison photo:

Woof they're a bit small, OG hound looks like they could swallow the new dogs whole...

+++

So now I've got these new Navy Breachers I thought I should get started making:

...and started some Palatine Enforcers...
Decided that they needed some more Imperial looking weapons...
Got a Subjugator with a bolter and shield on the way...
Also gave a guy a coat, gonna be the watch captain or something:

Gotta figure out heads, looking at the Scion beret heads I have, not a fan of their helmets, they look to much like primaris wannabes

Orbus was a proud and noble man who obeyed orders without question.
He spent years training in the Guard preparing to fight the enemies of the Imperium. When finally called to arms, he found himself against a dome of unarmed men and women who wailed and prayed for the Emperor to save them...

Mercer enjoys the power his job gives him.
All he has to do is raise a fist, not in anger, but holding a pouch.

+++The Worker+++

Tirm has a tool, he has had it for a long time, he looks after it, oils it, listens to the noises it makes as he uses it.
He knows the noise it makes when he uses it on a man.
His tool keeps him paid.

+++
Quick behind the scenes:

Tirm originally had an outcast body, but I had rediscovered some GSC models that felt more right for his model.
+++
This is probably the last civilian model for a little while, I can't get anything I'm happy with for The Free Man so I'm going to scrap him and start fresh.
This does mean I have a couple of Outcast bodies left over for some new characters, as well as my recently discovered GSC miners...

Thank you gobert!
+++
Back to being busy!
Got me some Kill Team Kroot photos ready:
(See if you can spot the original Kroot parts haha)

Very quick paint job, to get them good enough, my hands have not been kind to me lately...

Also took a spare arm from the new Kroot to add to my old Standard Bearer who was missing an arm:

Yay! Now need to get a wiggle on with Novembers unit...

+++

So been picking at some new conversions, seeing as I have all these outcast arms free and a few empire militia bits lying around:

A couple are some really old models I made with a plan to use them as Gue'La insurgents for my Tau army...
Whether they were allies or enemies, nobody knows...
Also got this guy:

Calling him Fat Petr for now, the torso is an old attempt at green stuffing that looks alright to me..

+++

While we're on the topic of Necromunda, I got some enforcers basecoated, as well as a new Subjugator with a Delaque Webber and shield combo:

Not sure about him, might put the Webber on a regular Enforcer and give him something less flimsy...

+++

Because I can't have only one active project at a time, I started working on my version of something I saw someone else do on dakka (forgotten who, sorry)
Anyways they made a like a 40k version of a building made of connecting Chacon huts, I thought I'd have a go...
The idea:

What I've got so far:

+++

Lastly, the thing I'm doing at the time of writing:

Picked up a can of GW White Scar and Army Painters Fur Brown from my FLGS.
I can tell you that one rattle can is not enough for all the ITTD terrain.
Yes I know they're still on the sprues, probably going to do most of the painting on the sprues too...

See you space cowboy!

Thanks! Steal away, its what I did!

+++
Speaking of the container, got some more bits on it...
Outside:

Inside:

The roof will be removable when finished so I can access the inside, so I'm arranging bits to be seen from above...

+++
Also painted up my test pieces for the new Kill Team terrain, going for an off white based on the interior of some of the warships I work on:

Started with a base of white spray paint then picked out some electrical boxes with celestial grey.
Next was a wash that I'd made from near empty pots of contrast paints and washes, came out very close to Agrax.
I followed that up with a dry brush of Corvax White and then picked all the cables out with Black Templar contrast and the ribbed ones with Leadbelcher.
Skulls are skull, lights use various contrast paints and then I dabbed some bits with dirty down rust...

+++

Also got some Ash Wastes Nomads on the go, but fell asleep before I could take a picture of them, I may be getting old...
Should finish them this week for my unit of the month...
See you next time!

Thanks all!
Did a little more on the interior:

Picked up one of those tentacle rollers recently so had bit of a play with it.
I'm a bit too impatient to wait for the GS to harden a bit, but I'm starting to get the hang of it...

+++

Anyways onto unit of the month:

Got me some Ash Wasters painted up.
Been hard doing these guys due to being plagued with hand cramps but got them to a point when I'm happy with them:

Got my boss with a bolt pistol from and OG plastic Goliath and thier gunslinger partner got an extra pistol from the bug rider sprue

The sharpshooters, one has a gun from a bug rider, the othe has what appears to be an air rifle from the Underhive Market set

The AT team, spotter gets some binocs and a slung rifle again from the bugs

And finally some basic boys...

+++

Lastly made this little guy:

There was a goblin like familiar on the Frostgrave Wizard sprue that I've been using for my civilians arms, so I cut his head off and used a winged skull decoration from the old cities of terrain...

The Malignant Cherub is suitably nightmare-inducing, well done. The Ash-wasters are terrific- that tan/brown color for their outer wraps is perfect. Thy come off looking like much more belligerent and formidable Jawas with the glowing eyes.

I never would have thought I'd need a tentacle roller for greenstuff, but you've showed me I was wrong- those armored conduits are a great trick! Now I must go buy one and it's your fault.

Very enjoyable read tonight.

+++

Anyways onto this week's update:
Ash Wastes Skitarii:

Rumors of an intact portable void shield generator draw the Mechanicus out into the Ash Wastes
Despite thier small unit size, the Archeotech Recovery and Survey Expedition are well programmed with appropriate combat litanies.

Took a while to get to finish painting these guys, so if you haven't seen them before, they're Orlock bodies with Skitarii arms, heads and back packs...
Pretty simple to do except the shoulder pads need cutting down to make room for the arms which is where the models are ugliest.
The Kataphron has a magnet in its torso so that I can swap it out for the Dune Riders stubber servitor as well as a spare set of Ambit legs that need to finish...

See you next time!

+++
Anyways onto what I've been up to:
It been hard to stay motivated, I find Christmas a pretty stressful period so I have been mostly hiding in a corner playing video games instead of painting...
But I have done a few bits over the past few weeks that I've forgotten to post.
First up:

Tenish years ago I made these guys in my first attempt at civilians.
They were cool for a hot minute and then I decided that I didn't like them so I dismantled them for parts
So recently I was playing with GSC bodies:

Tirm has some friends... Although if you ask them, they'd say that they're just coworkers, especially since Pula had his, uh, accident...

+++

Also been making some juvies:

A couple of innocents playing ball

A less innocent playing hard ball...

Also got some paint on some actual outcasts:

Not quite finished yet, need to do their bases, and some more of them before I do some in situ photos

+++

Lastly, I had a SoB repenter converted with some Death Maiden claws and was in spired to replace her head with a Blackstone Fortress Negavolt Cultists:

Calling her Euryale, for obvious reasons, thinks she needs some fluff, but I know I'm going to forget about it in a few days...

Well I hope you all had a Merry Christmas, I'm now suffering from the all the cake and cheese I've stuffed myself with, but I did get some pressies to share, my first actual forge world minis:

Got me that Palatine Enforcer lady with her robo-doggo and a rouge doc with a few extra arms

Put together the Enforcer and her doggo first, swapping out her stub gun for a Delaque Webber, adding a holstered pistol and some (probably) flashbangs.
And then I ate some Christmas dinner, blacked out and:

Suddenly had a painted robo-doggo...
Will call him stripe after the evil mogwai from gremlins, joking, he's covered in hazard stripes...

+++

Got me another civvy painted:
The Lookout:

While the other juves play and fool around, Miala keeps an eye out for anything hungry...

This gal is a Frostgrave female wizard, with outcast arms and a spare hand grafted on from a rouge psyker, she is pretty short compared to my other models so seems better to use her as a juvie

+++

Lastly been sprucing up some of my older models:

Updated on the left, original paint on the right...
Been fixing mistakes, adding better eyes and more markings as well as a purple shading wash to improve my models.
Just done the Eschers and now working my way through the Goliath's so I can get some nicer pictures for Instagram...

That's all for now, see you in the new year!

Thank you, I was thinking that hazards stripes might be the way to go but wasn't sure how to put them on the Enforcers as well.
I have one already in Judge Dredd colours but I'm not feeling it...

+++

So first thing first down in the hive:

Started with finding a use for all my pipes, I've pretty much used up all my zone mortalis walls so looking for more ways to use the platforms

+++
Some paint on some juvies:

+++
Building some Guild of Coin thugs:

Heads and torsos from the ridge hauler kit, legs are catachan and arms cadian.
Was originally going to give them las or autoguns but didn't want to cover their chests, gotta show off those ridge runner torsos...
+++
Broke on old servitor so decided to rebuild and improve him, he's called Donatello:

Donatellos sole purpose is to roll out black paint in thick straight line...
Then his friend takes over:

Leonardo's sole purpose is to spray thin yellow lines over any thick black lines he finds...
+++
Lastly for the week
A Frostgrave wizard for use for D&D:

This is the new model for Eric the Cleric, his patron is Pelor (sp?) A sun god, so I wanted some yellow and a sun motif on him...

See you next time!

Been busy doing quite a bit of painting this week
First up got the fuzz painted:

Made a guy in a coat as a Watch Captain, I'm imagining him as more of an official than an active duty Enforcer, doesn't mean he can't do the job though...

Next up is PFO Roland, equipped with a grenade launcher for crowd control...

Lastly for the cops, my version of Scrutinator-Primus Servalen, I switched out her stub gun for a Delaque Web Guantlet.
I have a couple of Subjugators with bolters on the paint queue but I'm aiming to keep my Palanites more interested in arrests than shootings and so I'll be getting a few more Webbers in their hands.
+++
From cops to hired thugs in a uniform, here's some of Mercer's goons:

Here's Guilder Coss

And here's Guilder Scal
Guilders Scal and Coss spend a bit more coin that they earn, but as they do their job well, Mercer turns a blind eye...
+++
Lastly some innocent Juvies playing ball:
+++The Catcher+++

Joss' ma says his Da is a famous 'Bowl player from the pict screens and was forced to leave them by his manager. He sees this man surrounded by fine food and finer women and thinks that if he plays well enough his Da will notice and whisk him away...

+++The Pitcher+++

Daev knows that despite what Ma says, his Da is not a 'Bowl star, but throwing a ball for his brother is something to do that costs him nothing...

So What have I been doing the last few week?
Unfortunately the answer is being super depressed:
Spoiler:
I'm looking at potential "Homelessness" in the next couple of months, landlord has to sell due to divorce and didn't seem to realise what a Section 21 actually is so couldnt get help from the council and they had to reissue it like four times...
Because we've been poor a long time, we have very little in savings and a lot of debt so that anytime something happens (car, dentists, change of contract, etc...) it gets wiped out quick and takes a long time to build back up...
(being poor is expensive)
So that stops us from buying the place from the landlord...
So we have been looking for a new place to live since October, eventually got two viewings last week and we still haven't heard anything back from them.
This is obviously very frustrating especially as we are financially in a good place.
This all caught up to me a little while ago and I had trouble functioning and just zombied through the last few weeks...

Anyways managed to have a mental health weekend and now I'm feeling a bit better...

+++

So what have I managed to squeeze in hobby wise?

Got some paint on another Sevitor:

Michaelangelo's sole purpose is to maintain and replace the decorative skulls scattered around the dome

+++

Speaking of servitors, my final planned servitor, code red:

Gave him some paint:

Not happy with the red clothing, makes it look more like skin and highlights that the base model is a Flayed One so I have started putting some celestia grey on him...

+++

Put some paint to some ITTD terrain:

These bottles I believe have rules for sucking the air out of a compartment, so I painted them up as a fire suppression system which if it used Halon would be functionally the same rule wise...
If they don't remove the air, then its just an AFFF system instead...

Also up is some barricades:

Tried to do as much "correct" colouring for the industrial stuff as I could and tried to remember that things can be plastic in M41
I think it needs some labels though, EVERYTHING has a label on a warship (sometimes it even says something helpful)

Done a wall as well:

Unfortunately my wash didn't come out so good on this piece so gonna have to go over some of it with Agrax.
Overall I'm happy with how previous pieces have come out, but I keep thinking I should have followed a simpler drybrush metal over brown route and rusting it up...

+++

Peekaboo:

Painted this guy up, forgot his name, tried to go for a nitrile gloves and hood, make him look more medical professional than BDSM lover...
He needs a base and then he'll get a proper picture.

+++

Also picked out some scatter/greebles I have and put some magnets in them:

most of my ZM stuff has magnets in it for the ZM greebles so it makes sense to do the same to the resin bits from TTCombat.
The electrical boxes are from an eBay bits order, I think they're Mantic...

+++

Also on the not GW front:

Some fancy stuff from Mantic that I got for a present some time ago...
Tried to keep the paintings generic enough to use for both Necromunda or the D&D campaign my partner is still threatening me with...
If the portrait with a field in it looks wrong, its because I forgot to put something in it, I was thinking a tower or a tree...

+++

Some progress from last night:

Got a Ridge hauler promethium trailer a while ago and have been slowly building it until I got to a point where I could start painting.
Not happy with the hazard stripes, gonna have to widen the bottom of the whites stripes see if that fits.
Trailer is off colour compared to the drive unit because I used Mournfang as a base instead of Dryadd Bark, but a slobber of Ratling Grime helped on the underside

Lastly on the ashwastes vibe, I made some trees:

Kinda inspired by the pipe/cable bushes in Necromunda Hired Gun, I wanted to have wires coming out the pipes but it doesn't look right.
These are Mantic pipes with some spare GW bits, cap ends from a ridge hauler and who knows where the valve wheel is from...

+++

Thats all for now, recently had a little sort through of my Warhammer stuff so it might be time to figure out all the projects I have going and get them organised,
See you next time!

Thank all for the kind words, IRL is hopefully getting sorted soon. I'm going to have a few busy weeks and very little money for a while afterwards, good job I have plenty to do in my pile of shame...

+++

Anyways, on to some minis, and we have my take on the Forge World Doc Arachnos:

Tried to keep a look of white lab coat with nitrile gloves...

+++

More painted stuff in the form of a Gheistskull:

It got a little bit of plasticard added to the base to try to replicate a zone mortalis base and I'm starting to get the hang of using dirty down rust...

+++

Also painted this guy up:

Not sure what he's supposed to be, either a child or a midget, just found a grot and grafted some human bits on it...

+++

Got some paint on my pipe trees:

Also a metal skeleton:

Not super happy with the look of the rust, might add more Dirty Down later...
The sludge is Dirty Down Moss with some Tesseract Glow on top which I quite like...

+++

Onto my "big" project for a while:

Provisionally called Inquisitor Lamia, she started as a Greyfax model that I got with the Imperium magazine and then I got distracted...
I cut up a few tails from Necron Wraiths trying to find the right look and then scratch built something that works for me...

+++

And then every Inquisitor needs some minions and suddenly I had some Deathwatch:

These guys are based off the chainsword primaris marines, and I tried to cram in as many pouches as I could on them.
Like my other marines, these guys are supposed to be "true scale", or at least scaled to the Necromunda scale...

They've got some base colours now, a test scheme uses Ratling Grime over Eshin Grey for the black with contrast Black Templar for recesses and some edge highlighting...

+++

Lastly because I forgot:

I picked up some Gryph Hounds a while ago when I attempted to start a Howling Griffins force because of the obvious, maybe it'll make a move over to the Inquisitors retinue...

Loving the conversions!

Very inspirational, especially the Watch Captain conversion and the Inquisitor and retinue. May need to kitbash some Deathwatch now.

Nice work all around. Inquisitor Lamia and her pals look very cool.

The doc looks cool Guardling, certainly looks like a white lab coat and nitrile gloves to me. The green lighting gives him a mad doc vibe too
The inquisition and deathwatch look super cool too. Where’s the imperial eagle from on the front of the griffhound?

Thanks all
@Gobert the Aquila is off the top of the "electric fence" things then cut in half so I had two
+++
Some final wips on Inquisitor Lamia:

I have no idea what the gun is that makes up the end of her tail but I liked the idea of something that could lock together and wreck someone's day...

Really cool model.

There was a time Ordo Xenos Inquisitors could take conversion beamers, seems like a good fit for weird archaeotech gun.

@Haighus: Thanks, I don't actually play so I don't have very many rule books to check what legal or not, I'm just going by what looks cool...

@Illumini: Thank you

+++
Anyways, I got myself a new place to live last week, but it is grim. I spent most of my time cleaning, removing rubbish and documenting defects.
I've been spoiled by my last landlord, so now it's back to regularly scheduled broadcasting...

Now that's done, I have the sad task of packing all my hobby stuff...

This sad pic is my ONE THOUSANDTH IMAGE!!!1
that's my entire hobby space packed away, I had to some pretty heinous things:

Like dump all my minis in one box, hopefully they'll be safer that way, there'll be a cas-rep later...

+++

In the meantime I have some painting WiP pics of my ordo xenos warband:

The Mentor and the Salamander marines are more or less done, but I'm not sure about the edge highlighting, might need some blue in it...

+++

That's it for now, gotta get furniture in place this weekend, but hobby stuff is pretty low on the list of priorities right now, hopefully be posting again by the end of the month.
See ya!

Good luck with the move! Had a similar experience last summer, not pleasant.

Oh, I don't care much about current rules, I think conversion beamers were an option for Ordo Xenos Inquisitors in the 5th ed Grey Knights codex I mentioned it only to point out there is precedence in the lore for Ordo Xenos Inquisitors to use a big weird cannon

The warband looks good.

Moving sucks, especially if the new place has issues. Hopefully the landlord gets them sorted.

The inquisitor and her retinue are looking awesome. The juxtaposition of her bow and arrow vs the tail gun is fantastic!

Thanks all!
Managed to get myself set up in the new place, got a new desk too:

Looks a lot nicer than the old one and now I have a terrain shelf

And now the minis are spread out again in their proper boxes time for the cas-rep:

Most just lost their bases
Two spindle drones, surprised it's not more given the small contact points
UR-025
The little juvie also lost his base
As well as an old plastic Goliath ganger I had lying around who has completely lost his base.
Spoiler:

Finally Tech priest Amstrad lost his servo skull

+++

So now I got my stuff back together and some room it's time to catch and finish all the different projects I've started over the years:

Like this paragon warsuit I got from the magazine last week...

And this train carriage that existed in my head...

And I wanted some guitar wire for making cables as well...

+++

Anyways this is where I went with the warsuit:

I'm having problems with the crotch (and bum), can't find the right part for it and hands hurt too much to make anything small enough...
I am also having trouble finding the right head, I have nothing I like left in my bits box...

+++

That's all for now!
See you later!

The War suit conversion looks good. What's he for? First thing I thought of was a 54mm scale Inquisitor!!

As for his bum/crotch you can always cover those up with some tabards, chainmail and armour plates.

Thanks, it's for the sake of making things, probably will be a denizen of Necromundas Ash Wastes...
As for crotch, I was avoiding a tabard as it makes it to sistery, might look into chainmail, not happy with the current round bit....

+++
Been busy working away so got some time for a Van Saar Instagram shoot:

Glittering carapace moves through the Underhive like insects... Valen does not like this analogy, he views the men and women of Van Saar as superior, not bugs to be crushed underfoot...

I've had these guys for a while but looking back I only took one photo of the gang that wasn't brilliant...

+++

Got a few hours to put some paint on my warsuit:

Tried experimenting with stippling thin layers on for the red and white, happy with it so far, gonna add some thinned down washes for additional shading and weathering ...
Still undecided about the head, now ering on the side of one the Skittarii sallet helmets...

+++

That all for now, away for work again this week so gonna try and find some time to do more on Inquisitor Lamia...
See you later!

Excellent work Guardling! The Van Saar pics are awesome, really moody underhive pics, thanks for sharing. The warsuit is coming on really well too, I wonder if giving the circle bit some nice OSL glow would change your mind?

@LordBickerstaff: Thanks, this has very much been a make it up as I go along conversion, but AdMech servitor parts go quite well with the Paragon kit
@Olthannon, thank you, I had originally accidentally painted it the same as the Van Saar so had to find something that didn't match what I already had
@gobert: Thanks, crotch light is an idea I may add later, but I'm not really confident enough to try OSL

+++
First up, been trying to catch up on all my little projects so got some outcasts done:

There's no rhyme or reason to their colour scheme, these guys are just criminals that started working together rather than an actual gang.
Seeing they blend in well with other civilian, they'll be great to do a perp hunt with some Enforcers

+++

Onto my main project, the Warsuit;
The Servitor known as UR-464:

About half an hour before posting I decided it need a bit of fluff:
+++Investigation Log+++
Spoiler:

+++Inquisitor Lamia, Ordo Xenos+++
UR-464 is a guard servitor my party and I encountered near the hive wall that claims ownership by Tech priest Dominus Amstrad.
Upon contact, it promtly offered up tactical data on its Area of Operations and the work servitors under its care that has proven useful for our own navi-systems
However, closer inspection of its wiring loom and structural assembly show a level of skill and care far in advance of the other junk servitors operating in the Ash Wastes.
In addition to this, a chance meeting with Dominus Amstrad, who upgraded some of my own bionics to better traverse the ash wastes, has made it clear he does not have the skill (or the care) to replicate UR-464.
It is my opinion that the servitor may be more aware of itself than a normal servitor, prehaps having lost some of it mental conditioning.
As it has proven itself helpful and loyal the Imperium, I have insufficient doubt to justify summary destruction and have instead performed an Inquistional override and added the servitor to my party, the additional firepower of its Autocannon and its knowledge of the local area should prove valuable in my current task.
+++Thought of the day: A suspicious mind is a healthy mind+++

+++

What's next? Well, Inquisitor Lamia is nearly done painting and I'm in the process of doing her base, should of taken some WiP pics but forgot. Also getting some ideas to flesh out her warband a bit...
See you next time!

Post by: Guardling

So been a busy bee the last week or so...
My display shelf did not survive the move to the new house (on purpose) so it's time to make a new one:

Here's what I had bodged for pictures:

Looks alright and all but doesn't really make any use of the larger space I now have and the background is just foam board cut offs that I've jigsawed together...

Time to change that with a quick trip to Hobbycraft:

Got me some new foam board, a couple of cheap paints and some modge podge to throw in with the other bits I already had.

I was super prepared and had measured the inside of the shelf accounting for the thickness of the foam:

Pretty much a Perfect fit!
In order to save money on the big sheets, I decided to do the floor in three pieces that were taped together, the idea being that the seam could be covered in with sand.

I then painted my background:

Started with the cream paint mixed with some water and Podge Podge and then added more and more chocolate paint as I tried to get a dust cloud look...

While I was waiting for that to dry I started on the floor:

I used some spray glue to do some uneven patches of model train ballast and suspicious sand and then fixed it all with some spray varnish I had.
I'll be honest, that didn't work out as well as I hoped.
I ended up mixing some chocolate paint and water with Modge Podge and the forgetting about it for most of the week...

When I got the energy to continue I hit it with a dry brush of the cream paint, but this didn't look very good and quite different from my existing ash wastes, uh, ash (right side)

So I made up a wash to try and get a similar colour to Contrast Skeleton Horde (left side)
I heard somewhere that you can used dish soap as a flow improver so I did, but then I had to use a hair dryer to knock out the bubbles when using it.
I also added a bit more Modge Podge for sealing.
No idea if the soap helped or not but it went down well enough and gave a colour that I was happy with.

A quick dry brush later and I was ready to fit:

Looks good, fits good, my only issue was as I had only painted one side there was some warping...
I mostly solved that by leaving a box of shame on it over night...
Haven't got lights back in yet, gonna need some rethinking for that.

+++
While I had the Modge Podge infused paint out, I thought I'd quickly do the sides of my Necromunda tiles:

Much nicer...

Wait, I might as well do these as well

So much for quickly...
But now I have done something on my unfinished tiles I can forget about them for at least another year...

+++
Now I have a background:

+++The Agents+++

Rumours are abound that the insidious xenos known as the Tau may be trading in the Ash Wastes.
While xenos trading is not unusual on Necromunda, the vast distance from the Damocles Gulf where the Tau are usually limited to does bring some cause for concern.
And so the Ordo Xenos sends Inquisitor Lamia and a Death Watch assault team to verify thier presence and discover how they have travelled so far so quickly...

Inquisitor Lamia:

Trying to do some sandy weathering with some washes of Palid Flesh, kinda getting the hand of it...

Death Watch Kill Team:

Phew, that's another couple of projects actually finished!

+++
Time to start working on another old project:

See you, space cowboy!

Great blog! The inquisitor is very cool, the outcasts are characterful, that space in the shelf you've created looks good too.

Do you have MDF square bases on all your necromunda/zone mortalis tiles?

Guardlings (Mostly) Necromunda Stuff... Remembering to post... @ 2023/05/10 07:08:56

Post by: Guardling

Thanks Ph34r!
Yeah most of my tiles are hot glued to TT Combat MDF tiles, I wanted something to hold them flat that I could also lock together.
The only flat surface I have big enough for wargaming on is my bed so I needed something to go over that.
TBH I'm not that impressed with them as they are not consistent in size and are a bit flimsy.
A friend is using using Anomalia game's terrain tiles which has options for different elevations which would be hand for ash wastes so I'm considering switching...

Lovely bit of fluff for the servitor, nice little cherry on the top of the conversion work & paintjob! That's the first time I've seen the warsuit used for anything other than its out of the box purpose.

Inquisitor Lamia herself looks great all painted up too - and those bugs excite me as I've just ordered a box of them myself for an exodites project. Can't wait to see what you do with them!

Thanks, I'm keeping two as "wildlife" as I've used the riders for other conversions...

+++
Been away for work so not much progress this week...
Mainly been attempting to get the nomads finished so to do that I started some birds:

Lefty has been gently shaved off of the Inquisitor I got with the last Imperium magazine package, righty is from the Kroot Killteam...

Kroothawk got painted up as a vulture with some hidden flashes of colour.
Didn't get very good pics as I was in a rush this morning, gonna have to redo later...
Also not sure on a colour scheme for lizard bird.

+++

I did manage to (mostly) stay in the ash wastes and get some paint on a Nomad biker:

Quite happy with how the conversion came out, had to scratch build a tank for the left flank of the bike and I think I nailed the nomad look...

Of course, now they're ona a bike, they need something to chase...

A bike riding courier, this guy is an alteration of a previous model that I wasn't happy with...
Looks good now and is much better at getting my intention across...

+++

And finally some more Underhive denizens:

Going with the Hunter, Crone, Missionary and possibly a Tailor ...
These were intended to try and use up some bits (mostly the smaller scale frost grave parts) that I would normally just hoard...
Need a bit more green stuff work to smooth them out but they're looking good so far, just need to find some suitable arms for a cloth trader.

That's all for now, gonna try and not start any more projects for now...

@ Capt. Hodgeheg: Thanks and there's more underhive scum today!
@ Gobert: Thank you, also on today are some nomads!

+++
Been doing lots of painting lately, got my paint queue down to just eight models, four of which I've only just made...
First up some more outcasts:

Same as the last lot, Outcast arms on old empire militia bodies...

+++

Also while I'm in the Underhive, I painted up another bit of terrain:

This is one piece using the wall to locate it on the Zone Mortalis grid.
Eventually it will have some pipes around it as well but I had separated it for ease of painting.

Will probably get some fences or something to use as platforms over the pipes

+++
So moving out into the Ash Wastes today...
The Courier:

Zagga enjoys racing over the wastes with his precious cargo. He relishes the chase when the nomads try to intercept him, he likes to think that they have a friendly rivalry, always giving a friendly wave when he sees them.
He knows he'll make a mistake chasing that high.
Maybe they won't cut his head off and mount it on a stake.
Maybe they'll let him go.

+++

And following closely behind Zagga, chain lance at the ready:

Just gave them some tidying up since the last pic.
Lagging a bit behind are the Helamite Riders:

As I mentioned last post, I used the "correct" arms in my previous nomad conversions so had to build them some new arms out of bitz...
Also made some "wild" Helamites for the nomads to round up:

+++

Speaking of wildlife, birds are done:
Carrion Eater:

Literally just a kroothawk that I painted like a memory of a vulture. Kroothawk have four eyes, but I just painted the lower set to look like beak.

Leaping lizard:

This one got painted like the memory of a leopard gecko.
Both of these have ZM bases that I've tried to make look like they are out in the wastes...

+++

That's it for now, bit later than I intended as I just got stuck into my new little project:

A Study in Stålenhag

@Olthannon: Thanks, the "soft parts" on the bugs were a happy little accident on the test model that I then went with
@MakeitOrky: Thank you and no problem, Underhive Fuana has been on my to do list for a long time...
@Meer_Cat: Thanks, the blue comes from a cheap colour changing LED strip that does most of my fill lighting, it's not set up properly yet, and was just in a plastic tub on top of the scenery so it was a bit hamfisted in those pics...

+++

Anyway, today is brought to you by the letter S, for Stålenhag.
Like pretty much anyone, I'm always trying to improve my miniature skills despite my physical limitations (bad hands)...
While I do have my very own (basic) style I think it is good to try and break out of it now and then in order to put fresh ideas and new working methods into my head.
A long time ago, when I was in school, we were often tasked with "studying" an artist and replicating their work, hence this week's project:

A Study in Stålenhag.

Stålenhag is an artist from somewhere in Scandinavia, I don't know, I only look at his (?) pretty picture.
Anyway they are probably best known for the Tales From the Loop collection which has since been made into a TV series, a roleplay game and has at least one videogame based on it.
They have been a couple more collections since, but for the most part they follow the same theme.

Giant robots, desolate environments, a clash of ordinary and extraordinary, sounds a suitable for Necromunda/Inquisitior right?
To make it more fun, a lot of these robots seem to be from abandoned theme parks...

I have had the idea to try and make a miniature based off of Stålenhags work for some time now, and it wasn't until I lucked out and found a cheap plastic toy from a charity shop that could finally get started.
You'd be surprised how hard finding toys suitable for conversions is getting, almost no charity shops in my area keep them in stock, it's all clothing and teddy bears...

Enter Birb, very cute, shakes its head, opens its beak and sings.
My original intention was to keep the electronics functioning but sadly it was wired up with super delicate hair thin wires that snapped the second I touched them...
So first thing I did was prep the toy:

Taken down to it's component parts sanded and gaps filled with Milliput.
This gives me a surface I can glue and paint on easily...
I mostly used superglue seeing as my plastic glue was not very effective on the plastic here.

With no moving parts like I had intended, I settled on posing it as if it is looking at something close up, like a bird with one eye

One of the defining elements in Stålenhags work is a lot of hanging cables, which I tried to replicate.
I am still keeping 40k in mind so I have added some obviously 40k elements as well, such as the the batteries from lascannons and the removable power cell from the thermic plasma conduit set
Most of my cables are 1mm garden wire or 0.5mm brass wire.
I also repositioned one of the wings for a bit of visual interest.

A few more cables in-between the legs and I was ready to get some paint on:

I put on a basic metal layer of Dryad Bark, some stippling of orange in certain areas, then a heavy drybrush of Mournfang Brown and finally a light drybrush and some stippling of Leadbelcher.
I went back with some more super thinned orange and did a few pinwashes and rust streaks
For some reason I went over board with the eye, layering up most of my red paints and then giving it a glaze of a red Contrast paint to tie it together...

Next layer was the "primer" coat:

This layer will help by being an under layer for the colours I'm using later and be the edging you sometimes see with worn down and chipped paint
This was Administatum(?) Grey stippled on avoiding many edges or areas I thought would get some wear.
I was going to leave the legs as bare metal but later decided against this.

And here's the finished birdy:

Definitely my biggest model in a while, its about the same size as an Armoured Container and I think I put it on a 70mm base...

I kept to the original colours of the toy, and threw on some washes of Gulliman Flesh, Reikland Fleshshade and Agrax Earthshade.

I also added some more thinned orange and some Dirty Down to bring some of the rust back
Base just had Zone Mortalis platform glued to it and surrounded in ballast to create an transition area between Underhive and Ash Wastes.
Feet also got a thinned wash of Rakarth Flesh for dust

Lastly the top view:

+++

So after all that I'm pretty happy with my results and definitely much more comfortable adding dangling cables to things.
My partner complained that the top and upper sides were a bit plain and featureless and they're right, most of the detail is on the underside which is great for photos and such but not so good for display or gaming...
Perhaps additional panels or decals on the top could help with that in the future...

See you next time!

Late May and early June have been super productive for you. The atmosphere pics are awesome, will you be doing an underhive shelf to complement the ash wastes one? I love the birdy, like Borak I find it quite terrifying. I think it’s because it’s something that should be small but is actually huge! I had nightmares like that as a kid, so yeah, thanks for that!

@Lord Borak: thanks, I think a part of it is that it's very easy to forget how big it actually is. Also the screaming servitor face probably doesn't help...

@Gwyn chan 'r Gwyll: Thanks, been a fan of Stålenhag for a while, and had wanted to do project based on his work. saw a video about his Labyrinth book and and found the toy bird at just the right time it seems

@youwashock: Thanks, wasn't sure about having a Deathwatch retinue to be honest, just didn't think she should be alone...

@gobert: thanks, I'm making up for my productivity burst by not doing anything now, haha...
I agree with the size thing for the bird, reminds me of the songbird from BioShock Infinite...
As for the display board, it does double duty, trying to figure out getting my LED light back in place at the moment.

@Captain Brown: Thank you!

+++
Anyhow, I have not been up to much the last few weeks, being sent over half the southwest for work and recently acquiring the new Legend of Zelda game has stopped me doing much hobby...
So mostly been picking at things I started a while ago, like this bar:

I started making this about the same time as I started making The Drunk, intending to use it as a background for her picture.
The counter is some 3mm thick polystyrene sign board covered in bits and the bottles are shaved down sprue

+++

Before leaving for a couple of days on a work trip, I used some carpet tape to set up my lights for the previous pictures, when I got back the whole thing had fallen down:

Oh dear, I think I'm going to have to make a ceiling...

+++

Finished another civilian made completly out of frostgrave bits:
The Crone:

Jelena used to be a beauty, a hundred years ago in another life as a successful gang leader.
But her fortunes turned when house Escher started demanding blind obedience and viciousness instead of carefull planning and reasoning skills.
And so she can no longer maintain the rejuvenation treatments that kept her body as sharp as her mind still is.

+++
Last thing is starting something new:

The sketch is what I originally had in mind for the Tall Man. Seeing as I don't have any ogryn servitors (yet) I found something else I can use...

Till next time!

Wow great stuff Guardling. The lights are really nice. Love how the birb came out. I like that you kept the original colours going and just grimmed them up.

The level of detail is fantastic- I can't believe your br bottles are made from sprue! Now I have to try, dadgummit!

Sorry the lights came down; yes, you simply _must_ build a ceiling. I'll sign a note for your doctor.

Great stuff- rock on!

That’s gonna be one hell of an ogryn! Looks like Guilliman to me? Good luck hacking him apart.
To save building a ceiling, maybe you could just build a small frame to mount the lights one? Get some plastic sheet to keep the dust away too?

Thanks, the bottles are surprisingly easy, in the past I have stuck a sprue in a drill and used it as a mini lathe, might try it again and see if I can get a smoother finish

Thanks, I haven't had to do to much hacking.. yet...
I access the shelf quite regularly so I'm not worried about keeping dust out, but I'll add it to the looong list of things I should do...
gobert wrote:Nice erm, turbines?

Haha yes I saw this too, but I definitely wanted to cover the chest area and definitely wanted to use another specific bit as a back pack...
+++

Anyway for whatever reason I can't get into hobby mode right now so here a pic I took a day after my last one:

I can tell you that it was not fun getting all those heads glued in place, but the end is worth it...
Also a pain was the wires on the legs, might add some more.

Next up is to figure out what to do with the arms:

I'm thinking of a lascannon "sniper" but also thinking of "unarmed", maybe a bolter and a power fist.
Also not sure on its allegiance, I'm keeping it as a junk servitor but may have him in my chaos cult colours...

+++
That's it for now, I'm away for work this weekend so I'm gonna take a couple of models with me and a limited selection of paints and see if I can do something to break through the creative block I'm facing...
Edit: no work after all, but will probably follow through on the limited palette thing...
Tata for now!

@Olthannon:
@Muette: Thanks!

So in a shocking turn of events, I did the thing I said I was going to do!
Picked five paints, the obvious B-W-R-G-Y, a single brush and a model quite different to what I have been painting lately.
Once prepped I sat down for a couple of hours and cracked something out:

This is a good old plastic space Ork I had lying around, 2nd edition? I'm sure someone will correct me ...

So some things I've learned:
I'm spoiled by washes/contrast.
I should mix paints more often.
I should get a wet palette.
Old models have terrible quality control.
I should do the occasional palette cleanser.

+++

With that done I picked some bits out my current servitor conversion:

I found a some IG autocannons to bring it back to my original hydra sketch which was supposed to be a riff on the Hydra (IG Tank) with Hydra (monster) attributes.
I did do a blu-tac mock-up of the lascannon sniper but decided I didn't like it.
Gonna squeeze it on a 50mm base so it has the same 'footprint' as the Tall Man, and then paint it in my chaos cultists colour scheme...

Till next time!

Thanks all!
Last month has been a bit of a bad mental health month and I found I was unable to do anything than trudge around on autopilot.
I had a few moments where I tried to do some hobby but they didn't stick, but now I'm confident that I have broken through that wall...

It was my birthday recently and so partner got me some new forgeworld minis:

Obviously there's one thing I did straight away:

Assemble the cat!
Was pleasantly surprised by this one as it wasn't in the picture on the box.

+++

With that little bump in my spirits I started on some easy painting:

These are just Dryad Bark, some splodges of orange, a heavy brush of Mournfang Brown and finally a drybrush of Leadbelcher.
Gotta add some washes of something at some point but they're almost good enough...
Also started building up a hab unit to go with:

I disagree with the massive holes on the platform so covered them in plasticard.
Way back when, I was going to turn it into a toilet block but I have since changed my mind, probably going to dining area now.
Toilets will have to go in a armoured container or something...

+++

Lastly here's the latest on Servitor Hydra:

And a base:

Most of the cracked slab is actually made from a snipped up frostgrave base...

+++

Tata for now, will try not to leave it so long next time!

Thanks Captain Brown!

I have been keeping at the but been forgetting to document and also putting a post together for Dakka can take me hours.
So normally I do it at work but works been busy so haven't had the chance yet.

+++
Anyways in rough chronological order:
More detailing on my hab unit:

A sink, draining board and a (non-potable) water supply for it. I plan to expand the counter top and have a hot plate/microwave as well as a fridge on this side.

Some tables and an external access lader for the other side. Tables will get some chairs, eventually.
Need to add a bit more detailing to the blank wall maybe just some panels or some outlets...

+++

Started putting together the first box of Forgeworld minis:

These guys are pretty much as should be, just separated, I think I need to redo the trailing wire on the cherub though, so it actually looks like a trailing wire...

Weapons trader got a bit of a change as I removed the Heavy Bolter, I try to keep special weapons special in my section of the underhive.
This also means I can used the imperial guard box that's full of lasguns for her...

Last one had the biggest change:

Didn't like the dandy look of the beast tamer and though he was more uphive feeling than the others.
So now he's a Rouge Trader who'll be attached to my Naval Armsmen...
There was a lot of cutting to get things to fit and then I did some gap filling with a blend of milliput and green stuff.

+++

Servitor Hydra got finished and now I have added some washes to my Ash Wastes walkways he gets a photo shoot:

Cobbled together from scrap parts and some light autocannons, this servitors purpose was area denial for low flying aircraft. Since then it has found its way into cultist service where, lacking access to its Auspex network, it does an effective job on light ground vehicles.
+++
Lastly I put some paint to the Rouge trader:

Need to touch him up and write some fluff for him.
That's all for now! Bye-bye!

@CaptainBrown:Thanks, unfortunately I have gotten distracted from the hav unit at the moment...
@Gobert: Thank you, I like to think my hand tremors helped with the script!
@Meer_cat: Not familiar with this reference I'm afraid, but thanks!
@Ph34r: Thanks, it was an absolute pain to put together
@Warboss_Waaazag: Thanks, still gotta do the rest of the kitchen though...
@Olthannon: Apparently Grynxes are super friendly, if you're worthy...

+++
Finally got some fluff together:
The Rogue Trader:

Charlot Van Mountebank earned his Warrant of Trade after his service in the Gothic war.
He is very eager to tell you about his Naval heroics in the Lysades subsector; he tells tales of how he singlehandedly liberated the hive world of Corlina from chaos occupation, how he helped turn the mining world of Tarantis into a respectable forgeworld and how his ship pummeled the Planet Killer over the skies of Schindelgeist...

+++
In other news, I have been trying to start painting up my Into The Dark terrain.
I've done some batch painting for the caps of the walls already...
I didn't like my initial white test because it went badly with the washes so I tried something closer to my Zone Mortalis style:

Then I decided to have another go at the white using a different method:

The part were primed in white so this time a put a thinned layer of Steel Legion Drab, concentrating on the lower half of the piece.
I wasn't to worried about coverage, just the recesses, so I only did the one layer and let it dry.
The piece then got a heavy brush of Rakarth Flesh, trying to get in the recesses I missed with the Drab.
After that a good hard drybrush of Corax (?) White concentrating on the top half.
Some pin washes of Agrax and picking out the details before some streaks of various washes and I have something that I'm happy with...
Gotta find a sponge so I can stipple some dirty down rust on to match a couple of othe bits I've done...

+++
See you next time!

Been lost playing Starfield last few weeks.
Scanning rocks on desolate planets is boring as hell, yet I am compelled to keep doing it despite the million other things to do...

Anyways had a day off work yesterday and managed to do something to get back into hobby mode:

New LEDs! This box came with some neat connectors that allowed me to get a nice even setup instead of the weird structurally breaking bending I had to do previously.

Much nicer!
Also got a better colour range, the yellow looks yellow instead of green on my last set...
White is still a bit blue though but I can correct for that.

Painted a couple of models last night so will get back to regularly scheduled broadcasting soon!

Ah, I'm not quite old enough but I think it has more to do with not buying newspapers unless they had Lego figures in them...
gobert wrote:Cool bulkheads, both the white and black are pretty effective. They wouldn’t look out of place being mixed and matched either

Thanks, yeah they no go well together but I will probably repaint to keep a uniform vibe and separate from the ZM stuff

gobert wrote:Nice LEDs. I’ve been wanting to do similar with my display but not gotten around to it yet. Need to figure out if there’s a way to get different colours for different shelves, maybe crossing wires?

Thanks! LEDs have a low draw so it should be possible to put a few separate sets into a USB splitter...
However my current set advises against making lengths longer than 10m due to power draw problems. For context, I've used around 3m on that shelf, so three shelves *should* be fine...

+++
Anyways, what have I been up to?
Painting! Got me a cherubim done:

+++The Pigeon+++

Cherubim and servo skulls are are a common sight in the underhive, flitting around as they deliver their messages between gangs and their sponsors.
And just like the messenger birds of old, there is opportunity for mischief...

This is just the little guy from the forgeworld underhive traders set, with a bit of garden wire to hold him up, nice and vague so he can pull duty for any faction...

+++

Also on the painting front is the forgeworld gun trader:

With the heavy bolter swapped out for a "milsurp" lasgun
Also the hunter gets some paint:

Trying to go for an Ash Wastes camouflage whilst staying away from the Nomads colour scheme so he's looking a bit tan

+++

On the making front:

I managed to pick up a box of Inquisitorial Agents and started modifying this guy.
Obvious one first is magnetised weapons and a couple of extra ones which I think are from the Dominus kit
Secondly I decided I didn't want any visible skin, so a head and arm swap from the skitarii box.
Had to have a power fist but the only left hand one I could find in my bits box was an Orlock one.
Might add some extra cables later.

+++

Lastly, I plan to start planning my next Study In project:

That's all for now, see you next time!

+++Servitor Iota+++

Servitor Iota remembers his time with his family climbing trees, rockpooling, laughing and squealing with delight.
This is a secret he will never tell his masters, for he knows he was born in a tube.

+++The Hunter+++

Karba stalks the dunes looking for easy prey, but when you are as good as he is, everyone is easy prey.

+++The Missionary+++

Padry roams the wastes telling grand tales from the Great Crusade.
With little but a rusty chainsword to ward off wildlife, he wanders unmolested by even the most deranged of men.
Yet he always finds an audience for his stories and a meal in payment.
Maybe he is truly touched by the Emperor, maybe he is just touched by the sun.

Been poking at old bits of terrain this week:
Starting to do the post was layering on this fuel tank:

Started this a while ago and just pulled it out again recently, I have some hazard stripes on the top, but they're making me unhappy so I gonna have to find a new spot for them...

Another gang stronghold wall:

I had already used the official centre tile in another bit of terrain so I made a replacement out of 5mm polystyrene signboard and did some carving on it. I didn't like my original centre so replaced it with a piece of cities of death terrain for interest.
I don't have anymore of the appropriate railings so I can either attempt to build my own or just use regular ZM railings

Also up, remember my guardsman mural?

Made it a part of a terrain piece, in part an experiment to see how well I could hide the gaps between the pieces with rust and grit.
Thinking about extending the mural, maybe some orks or genestealers getting crush underfoot...

Also done was one of the ITTD motor/pumps:

Kept to the navy theme I've been using which gave me a chance to use some blue for the small pumps.

+++
Somehow, I have managed to empty my current paint queue.
Granted this might be because I put a load of minis back in their pile of shame, but I have painted a more than I have made in the last couple of months...

No fluff for them yet and I run the risk of not writing any if I post them up...
Gat Gal:

Really happy with how her bright colours came out, her hair could probably do with a few more layers or even a bright colour repaint...

Trash King:

Victicy sells relics of the saints, genuine finger and knuckle bones or the occasional femur.
After all, as a former priest he can canonise any fallen hero he comes across.
These coins keep him in his favourite chemicals and when times are lean, he has another foot...

I love how my take on the relic trader has come out.
The idea was he made robes out of trash bags and tarps, an idea I wish I used on my ash wastes Nomads...
I think I need a new box now to make some trash waste nomads...

+++

Also it Halloween soon so found a nice big skull to "use for terrain":

Just a fiver from Lidls and comes with free sweets!
See you next time!

Thanks all!

Now that my paint queue is empty, time to fill it up!
I went through and put together the Inquisitorial Agents box set with the ones I liked the look of first:

Because I always wanted some of these weirdoes...

Then I started finding ways to use the spares to make the alternative characters:

The penal legion guy took a while to figure out and I need to do a bit of sculpting work on the back...

Gonna get a belt and a new arse on him and then cover it with pouches...

Also on the paint queue is one more Agent that I haven't made the alt for as I don't have any bodies I'm happy with:

The tailor (middle) is still lurking around as I'm just not inspired by her right now, maybe a name change will help...
Also been painting one of the unfinished Starstrider crew. I'm happy with the white for now just need to work on the blues and grays.

That's all for now!

Edit: some fluff for the Trash King:
Victicy sells relics of the saints, genuine finger and knuckle bones or the occasional femur.

Seldo regrets the murder of a fellow guardsman that sent him to Savlar.
This is because when he kills a man, he likes to watch the life drain from thier eyes.
But the men of Krieg never had any life behind their eyes in the first place...

Skritchskritchskritchskritch skritch skritchskratchskritchskritck skritchskratchskratchskritch...
Mallory dutifully transcribes his masters discussions...
Skratchskratch skritch...

Also up is my version of Larsen van der Graus:

I have been following a vague Star Trek crossed with Victorian soldier colour scheme with the Starstriders and as part of the science team he gets blue...
Still got the Rouge Trader herself to paint but she keeps falling off her base...

+++

Last up for now, I'm working on the Death World Vet who's very clearly a Catachan:

Was tempted to go for a not jungle camo scheme but broke in the end...

That's all for now, will try and get some more painting done this weekend, I recently put some layers on the hab unit so maybe I'll finally finish it...
See you next time!

Glad to hear the hand is improving!

Those all look fantastic. The blue on van der Graus works really nicely.

A swollen hand sounds painful, Hoepfully all better soon. The latest batch of characters are great. Mallory looks very studious and I love the idea of the star striders following the Star Trek colours, neat touch!

Found a body for the enlightener agent:

Good old Delaque saving the day, most of the armour plates have been filed away.

While looking for an appropriate body I rediscovered a very old conversions I did for a Van Saar themed gang:

They look like fancy pants gangers in the Landsknecht outfits!

Maybe a mercenary group with the uniformity?

Those could be a Rogue trader's puffly-pants crew?

Thanks all!
@ Endtransmission: I like that idea!
R.e. the puffy gangers, I may end up updating them with some green stuff and new heads now that I've got a much better bits box than when I first made them.
However these guys are pretty low on my queue at the moment, unless I ADHD them further up
Some of the weapons need a tidy up and I need to replace the powder pouches with actual pouches...
Here's a very old pic of their original colour scheme which I'm not sure I'll keep:

I seem to have misplaced this particular model, or more likely broken him down into bits, but the pose is naff so may make a new guy...

Inquisitorial Agents are still my main focus at the moment so got some layers on the Hexorcist and Mystic Agents:

I'm trying to stay close to the box art for these guys, or at least as much as I can with the Hexorcists substitute parts...

Also up is the Death World Veteran:

Chag hates the mission his masters have sent him on. Stalking through the bowels of the hive city brings back his memories of being a child, where every nook and cranny holds a new form of death to learn, often at the cost of his comrades.
He cannot show it, but he is scared.

Took inspiration from the box art but given that this guy is supposed to SF, I blacked out all of his weapons and kept the metals to a minimum.

Remembered my hab unit exists so been putting some layers on that:

And then got distracted by the tables:

I tried painting the books up as safety/training manuals so they fit with being on a workman's table.
These tables are going on the opposite side to the kitchen but they have magnets in them so they snap into place and I can take them out an put them elsewhere.

+++

Also being snuck onto my queue is some good old regular Necromunda stuff:
Finished up an Orlock heavy with harpoon:

He's been on the "page 2" (I also have a page 3 ) of my queue for a while...
so now I have all my orlocks finished I found bits to make another one...

I wanted something non standard with my final guy and so with a bit of cutting I came up with a bolt pistol wielding gunslinger

Finally put some layers on the Escher Shivver to try and figure out her colours:

I think I'll put some green threads running through her dreads as my contrast pop colour, but there's going to be plenty of little details to stick in there...

That's all for now, see you next time!
