Rain of a Thousand Flames by Rhapsody fits well with the overall feel of 40k.
I agree with the Space Marines but I'd go with something quicker, Holy Thunderforce comes to mind.
I think of Metallica when I think of chaos for some reason, Cyanide, Shortest Straw, and Frayed Ends of Sanity spring to mind and Master of Puppets should be Tzeentch's theme.
For the Tyranids- omnomnomnom- Parry Grip
lol.
I really can't find any faction for anything jazz or swing for some reason, except maybe Slaanesh in certain instances. I can see the Wolves going with Nordic folk though.
Space Wolves; Mostly anything by Turisas or Tyr, both are Viking folk metal bands, suits them (and me) to a tee Tyranids; 'Monster' Can't remember the band...
Blood Angels; Theme tune to any Dracula movie
All I got so far

I don't know, ICP just doesn't make me imagine rat men, like turisas's music would (in theory) make the listener inspired to do chaos marauders or space wolves..

No offense, but I meant ICP being a collection of scum, to accompany a race of garbage eating electrical cord chewing beady eyed dirtbags called skaven.
Okay, music is near and dear to my heart so here we go:
40k
Space Marines: Way too cliche for "We are the champions" by Queen, Now maybe "Indestructible" by Disturbed.
Dark Angels: This is too easy "The Unfogiven" by Metallica.
Space Wolves: "Born To Be Wild" by Steppenwolf. Pretty much any hard party music will do... I could picture them playing "In Taberna" by Corvus Corax.
Blood Angels: "Dragula" by Rob Zombie, "Can I play with Madness" by Iron Maiden.
Necrons: It just MUST be "Tubthumping" by Chumbawumba ("I get knocked down but I get back up again you ain't ever gonna keep me down..." ain't that the truth) but if we must go all gothic about it: I really think "Dead Souls" NIN would do it.
Tau: "Having a Blast" by Green Day, If caught in melee I would say "Run for the Hills" by Iron Maiden. "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" by Daft Punk
Tyranids: Maybe "Fade to Black" by Apoptygma Berzerk?
Orks: Oh, I must say "The Mob Rules" by Black Sabbath, or "Leaders and Followers" by Bad Religion, "Free Your Hate" by KMFDM.
Sisters of Battle: "Fire Burning" by Sean Kingston, "Hey, Soul Sister" by Train, "Little Sister" by Queens of the Stone Age.
Chaos Space Marines: "Losing my Religion" by REM, "Violent Mood Swings" by Stabbing Westward, "Nemesis" by Shriekback, "Space Lord" by Monster Magnet
Dark Eldar: "When your Evil" by Voltaire, "New Pain" by Static-X, "King of Pain" by the Police, "Hurt" hmm.. NIN or Johnny Cash or Absurd Minds... you pick.
Imperial Guard: "Soldier Side" by System of a Down, "Boom, Boom, Pow" by Black Eyed Peas, "Bodies" by Drowning Pool.
Eldar: "Save Yourself" by Stabbing Westward, "Menofearthereaper" by Pop Will Eat Itself, "Fake Plastic Trees" by Radiohead.
Inquisition: "Heads Will Roll" by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs,
Gray Knights: One Man Army by Our Lady Peace (the lyrics work oddly enough). "Sophia" by Cruxshadows (Knight errant song if I ever heard one).
General 40k atmosphere music: "Know Your Enemy" by Greenday, "Nightmares" by Last Dance, "Uprising" by Muse, "Schism" by Tool, "Wasteland" by The Mission, "Silver Future" by Monster Magnet, "When Worlds Collide" by Powerman 5000,
Warhammer:
Skaven: "Sleeping Beast" by Skinny Puppy seems to work for me... not sure why.
Vampire Counts: "Darkside" by Gothminister or "Nightmares" by Last Dance.
Dwarves: "The Grudge" by Tool, "Building Steam" by Abney Park.
Empire: "Many Moons Ago..." by Empyrium (funny that) or "Domina" by Potntia Animi
Will see what else I have in my collection to add...
IGLannister wrote:IG - Good Soldier by NIN

DUALITY<3 xD
Ok...
General - Blind Desperation - Sylosis, prehaps Far From Home - Five Finger Death Punch for the many dying on the battlefields... or Humanity - The Scorpions, End of Days - Malefice
Chaos - Master of Puppets - Metallica (Also fits Necron Deceiver C'tan), Black metal in general (I'll throw in Dawn of a Golden Age - Roadrunner United, but I'm not really a black metal man...), and Hit The Floor by Linkin Park fits the Horus Heresy quite well (The song after it on the album called Easier to Run also fits in a weird way, if you imagine Horus having a sense of regret as the Emperor struck him down....), Halo - Machine Head, In Pieces by Linkin Park?
World Eaters - Right Now - Korn, The Enemy - Roadrunner United, Meaning of Life - Disturbed, People = gak - Slipknot
Death Guard - Down with the Sickness - Disturbed (duh!), Virus of Life - Slipknot (sorta...)
Space Marines - Indestructible - Disturbed, Points of Authority - Linkin Park?
Dark Angels - Unforgiven - Metallica, Waking the Fallen - Avenged Sevenfold
Necrons - Deceiver and The Night by Disturbed
Imperial Guard - No-one Gets Left Behind - Five Finger Death Punch, The Physics of Fire pt. 3 - Becoming the Archetype
Eldar - Outsiders? (by Franz Ferdinand)
Tyranids - Blackened - Metallica (focusing on the fact that they destroy a lot of planets, thought it could suit Chaos or even IG...)
There's probably loads more when I've been through all my music...
Chaos Space Marines- "Heresy"
Chaos Demons - "Burn"
Dark Eldar - "Happiness in Slavery"
Space Marines - "Big Man with a Gun"
Tyranids - "With Teeth"
Necron - "Dead Souls" (or "Suck" depending on which angle you want to take )
Tau - "The Greater Good"
Imperial Guard - "The Good Soldier"
Eldar - "Underneath it All"
Inquisition - "Discipline"
Orks - "Ruiner"
Way back in the start of my wargaming life, me and my friend pretended when my VC zombies moved, thriller played, and the stereotypical Egyptian music for the tomb kings..
Hmm... this requires some thinkin' on my part for a full list but I always paint listening to Coheed and Cambria so there's that hah... (favorite band and all...)
Chaos: "The Broken" by Coheed and Cambria Tau: "I'm A Loser" by The Beatles
I always fell for the theme to 1942. This heavy ochestral sound made me think of the propaganda posters to go join the army. So IG has theme of 1942 to it.
Also for Ig would be brothers in arms by dire straights. Great song.
General song is the battle of Evermore. The title says it all.
Dark eldar have golden age of leather by blue oyster cult.
Also unit specific I love don't fear the reaper for the night bringer. Amazing song, fits perfectly.
I tend to be a jazz guy so most of my music knowledge is wasted here.

Nah I was thinking of the one by The Automatic; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AUhE5nggPY Simply because of the lyric 'What's that coming over the hill? Is it a monster'
Not necessarily the lyrics but I just think the female singer sounds Eldarish ;P
And sorry to use a tribute video, but I just don't know the name of the original song...
Chaos Space Marines, the lyrics just suit it so well (imagine they be addressing the Emprah innit):
I also considered this fitting for my guard army, but I doubt anyone will agree with me
for a Imperial Guard commissar: Disposable Heroes by Metallica "Back to the front! You will do what I say, when I say! Back to the front! You will die when I say, you must die!"
SW - Wenches and Mead by Alestorm
Khorne - Die MF Die by Dope
The Emperor (not an army but meh) One by Metallica
Chaos in general - Devour by Disturbed
More to come when I'm at home and can actually look through my Music
What a fun thread! I really like sharing music and artistic inspiration. Here are a few matches I like, hopefully they will open to some bands and music they have never heard of before! Enjoy, let me know anything you thought was a good match or particularly enjoyed!

I have always thought of Megadeth's Blood Of Heroes for Blood Angels, and Metallica's Disposable Heroes for the Imp Guard. One of my Chimeras has Disposable Heroes painted on the dozer blade
Though this isn't for any specific army, you can imagine this being with any army.
Imagine, a drawn out fight in a crumbling Imperial city. You are running through the streets with your squad, your mission complete. All that matters now is getting to your transport to escape. You try to avoid the falling debris, as it has already claimed a portion of your squad. Overhead, you can see your side's Titans clash with enemy Titans. You can't tell if you're winning, but one thing is certain; all have taken grievous amounts of damage. The ground shakes, to the point where you're struggling to keep your footing. The battle is clearly intense.

All the silly Youtube-ness being blocked at work! Argh!
On topic, here's what I'm think of off the top of my head.
Mech IG- Panzer Battalion by Sabaton
Space Marines- Soulforged by Blind Guardian
Slaanesh Themed Army (40K or WHFB)- Mr. Torture by Helloween
Necrons- Indestructible by Disturbed (I figured them over Space Marines)
Tau- The Final Countdown by Europe
CSM- The Number of the Beast by Iron Maiden
Imperial Navy- Electric Eye by Judas Priest
For Slaanesh this song is fun! Noise Marines on sonic blaster guitars, Daemonette choir vocals and a Keeper of Secret with a whip driving them on! Hail Slaanesh!
Have not the strongest
and closest ties been bound so long
I've called upon them
they remind me where I'm from
With deep conviction
I am connected cross the miles
with out them nothing worth relying on
It's been so long since I could say
I've needed anything stronger
We can't give up when we have ties that bind us
if I rely and I know the strength
in those who taught me of the
power in the ties that bind
when I turn inward
and look for strength within my self
and demonstrations of courage
are the result
if inspiration is wholly shared
then more is the gain
then I will follow
the selfless actions displayed
It's been so long since I could say
I've needed anything stronger
We can't give up when we have ties that bind us
if I rely and I know the strength
in those who taught me of the
power in the ties that bind
we are made powerful(we are made powerful)

Space Marines - "Indestructable" by Disturbed:
Another mission, the powers have called me away
Another time to carry the colors again
My motivation, an oath I?ve sworn to defend
To win the honor of coming back home again
No explanation will matter after we begin
Unlock the dark destroyer that?s buried within
My true vocation and now my unfortunate friend
You will discover a war you?re unable to win
I'll have you know
That I?ve become
Indestructible
Determination that is incorruptible
From the other side, a terror to behold
Annihilation will be unavoidable
Every broken enemy will know
That their opponent had to be invincible
Take a last look around while you?re alive
I'm an indestructible master of war!
Another reason, another cause for me to fight
Another fuse uncovered now, for me to light
My dedication to all that I?ve sworn to protect
I carry out my orders without a regret
My declaration embedded deep under my skin
A permanent reminder of how it began
No hesitation when I am commanded to strike
You need to know that you?re in for the fight of your life
You will be shown
How I've become
Indestructible
Determination that is incorruptible
From the other side, a terror to behold
Annihilation will be unavoidable
Every broken enemy will know
That their opponent had to be invincible
Take a last look around while you?re alive
I'm an indestructible master of war!
I'm indestructible
Determination that is incorruptible
From the other side, a terror to behold

Chaos Space Marines - "Dead Man Walking" by Bloodsimple
Burn it down
It's a production of fear
Take another look isn't it clear
It's all so sadistic, annihilistic, it's so fething vicious
It's getting harder to feel for all the people I kill
No time to cry for those who died
They stay unjustified
Through these eyes I see the catastrophe lying in my wake
Voices inside my mind shiver my spine
I am not ashamed
Look at me I'm a dead man walking
Put another nail in the coffin
On the hill I see the bodies burning
Burn it down
Looking back at the fields, all the blood that I've spilt
There's no emotion, just destruction of another person
Look at the blood on my hands
I feel no pain in my heart
Take a paxil, take a xanax
It won't erase the memories
Through these eyes I have seen such misery
I am not afraid
And if I should die tonight that would be just fine
Lay me in my grave
Look at me I'm a dead man walking
Put another nail in the coffin
On a hill I see the bodies burning
Burn it down [x4]
False evidence appearing real
So superficial, so superficial [x2]
So superficial, so superficial

Some of the songs being suggested make me wonder if anyone is listening to the lyrics. It's tough to "get into" the theme of the army when the songs are about breaking girlfriends hearts or unreleated political agendas...

For the record, your songs you posted aren't about SM, CSM, IG or Tyranids either.
Which is my way of saying you're taking it too seriously.
Maybe 'Zombie' by the pretty reckless for Vampire counts. I can just imagine one of the zombies singing it, and playing the guitar, farfetched, i know, but cool
ok pretty random mix-up (some for the tune, some just for title )
IG - Ribbons, Sisters of Mercy
Eldar - Shining Path, Dreadzone
Necron - Star Chasers, 4hero / The robots, Kraftwerk
Slaanesh - If it don't turn you on, BT Express / Love is a four letter word, Roy Budd / Sex, sluts n heaven, Depth Charge
Vampire Counts - Lost in the shadows, Lou Gramm / Cry little sister, Gerard McMann / Vampire, Black Uhuru
Blood Angels - Seeing Red, Red Snapper
Tzeentch - How you've changed, The Animals / Hallucinations, Roy Budd
Nurgle - Time to get ill, Beastie Boys / I'm sick, Medicine
Orks - Fat boy stomp, James Taylor Quartet
Tyranids - Bug powder dust, Bomb The Bass
Horus - Hostile takeover, Mark B & Blade / The beginning of the end, Funky Nassau
Renegades - Rebelrebel, David Bowie
I can't believe this hasn't come up yet. I know if I ever get an Air Cav army together this will go on my ipod and be played at the beginning of turn two as my first outflankers come on the board:

Heh, my Death Guards theme tune .
Anyway-Taurans, or any bull-themed chapter-Bulls on parade, Rage against the machine (Just the last 26 seconds really).
World Eaters-The butcher is king, Meatloaf.
Death Korps-Sonne, Rammestein.
Death Company-Dragula, Rob Zombie.
Free Wheel Burning - Judas Priest or Supernova - Powerman 5000 always bring a picture of T-hawks swooping down and disgorging heaps of bike mounted White Scars... Don't know why, just do...
And as the mighty Imperial Guard marched to war, the tanks rolled out from their drop ships in their thousands, superheavies and artillery swelling their numbers yet further so that the very ground shook under them, this world would be brought to heel, as they all would, eventually...

Doesn't anyone anymore listen to classical music? Gustav Holst's Mars (already posted, page 2) is perfect for chaos and I can't believe nobody mentioned Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries (it has valkyries and sh*t) which great for IG. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7AlEvy0fJto

40k Space Marines:
Pompeii - E.S Posthumus
CSM:
Fog - Dayn and Daladubz
Dark Eldar:
Burn - The Cure
Tau:
Changes - David Bowie
Sisters of Battle:
Coca Cola - Little Red
Fantasy
Tomb Kings:
Black Fingernails, Red Wine - Eskimo Joe
With my Orks, it's all about the metal and a wee bit of punk. In fact I even customized my warboss for a mic stand and take the ol Goff Rocker figs out for every battle.
'Ere's some good ol' Orky tunes roight here.
Now as for the Imperial Guard. There's so much to choose from. After all, I play Valhallans, and what motivates a Valhallan to rise to battle won't neccessarily warm the heart of a lad form Catachan. So here's my all IG playlist of power.
VALHALLANS
CADIANS
OR
MORDIANS
PRAETORIANS
CATACHANS
DEATH KORPS OF KRIEG
TALLARN
STORMTROOPERS
Alright, I think that covers all the biggies. Great thread everyone, can't wait to see where it goes next!
Wow. Some of the choices on here are startling. I picture the IG marching/fighting to the 1812 Overture, Ride of the Valkyires, Carmina Burana (specifically O Fortuna!) and so on. I have what must be every NIN album up to Year Zero, and I just don't feel it works. To each their own, I suppose.
For SoB/GK/SM, I picture some Gregorian Monk chants.
One of our other players likes the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack for his Eldar, and then Linkin Park for his Tau. (Bonding knives = cutting yourself = Linkin Park)
The guy that plays Orks likes his ska. Something about checkerboard patters, I guess.
Im not sure for IG in general but when fighting nids i would say iron maiden "run to the hills" but as for my guard it in civil war theme i would say Dixie and Battle hynm of the republic as i have done both north and south.
Anything by Sigur Ros or Enya would work well for the Eldar! I can just see a Banshee twirling and hacking her way through Necrons as she is listening to "Glosoli" by Sigur Ros.

You don't think a song where 2/3rds of the lyrics are "I want your SOUL / I will eat your SOUUUULLLL" suits the Dark Eldar? I mean, true, there are a lot of factions in the 40k universe looking for your soul, but this song also has the creepy vibe and speedy techno-y beat that fits the DE.
I think Dawn of War themes fit the armies perfectly. All these other choices are quite strangee and in my opinion don't fit the theme of the soldiers. I mean I think the themes that you pick should be no rock and roll or singing heavy metal just because you enjoying listening to this music. Just because the title of the song is related to something in the warhammer 40k world doesn't mean it fits the theme. It got to be something that you feel will fit the theme. All this junk you post
I think is excellent theme for Dark Eldar
or this
They captures the look and the background story and the feeling inside says it fits the Dark Eldar perfectly. The are dark, cunning, and just pure freaky.

Thank you.
All these heavy metal and black metal songs just don't fit the theme of the Warhammer 40k Universe. Just because you listen to the music, doesn't mean it fits the theme of 40k. You people have bad taste.
It's like saying Justin Bieber music fits the theme of the Friday the 13th. its stupid
I say Hordes of Chaos and Agents of Brutality from Kreator or even bloodlines from Slayer fit into anything for chaos undivided and more specifically khorne bezerkers.
Sorry, but its the cheesy stuff that fits 40k, and as this thread well proves a number of people agree. And you can't say it doesn't fit the setting because Chaos - the original big bad in both settings is literally 80's metal.
None of the non-cheesy stuff I listen to got posted because it didn't fit 40k. And I don't usually listen to CDs of video game music.
BTW I think White and Nerdy has been the best song posted here for any race, just so you know where I'm coming from.
For chaos- raining blood or bloodlines from Slayer, Slipknot Heretic Anthem anything metal lol Space marines- mostly progressive rock such as korn- freak on a leash/ disturbed- survivor.
eldar- Britney spears, oops i did it again/ incredibad space olympics
dark eldar- Marylin Manson- beautiful people
tau- religious music/couldn't think of anything else.
nids- slipknot- psychosocial / duality

Seek and Destroy for Space Marine Kill Team. I know it's an old unit.
Creeping Death for Oblitarators

Down With The Sickness. Plague Marines.
For Imperial Guard: War Pigs by Faith No More, in keeping with the IG's WWI feel.
In 94, NASA released some very weird CDs of the electrical sounds of the planets as Voyager passed them. "Symphonies of the Planets" are very weird and sometimes barely music. I associate it with the inhuman Eldar.
