@ Stephen Bond - well actually i spray them black, with the space hulk terminators they already came sprayed and glued together and i didnt think it was a good diea to undercoat them again, cheers however mate.
@ Meriandoc - Well im not as impressed with the terminator lib, i think i might actually just go and strip him down and start again, cheers for the feedback
@ -=Scare=- - i think we are going to have to agree to disagree, personally i find the color in the codex dosnt match the look of blood ravens is to bright
Cheers for the feedback however

Very nice to see such a well painted force, this may seem like knit-picking but after investing so much time, money and effort into the force, push the boat out with the bases. Bases are often neglected but changing from grass and gravel to resin or custom built cork ones makes all the difference. Bases can attract the eye to focal points on the miniatures and tell a story. Rather than just being generic Blood Ravens Force liberating world 'X' from Enemy 'Y' they become a completely unique force. Still a good standard of work though.

Post by: itsonlyme
Yeah i can see exactly what you saying, i think i will look into that in the very future actually! After looking at the other Ravens thread i have been inspired to make a Master of the Chapter from Calgar however i think im going to try and convert the powerfists into lightning claws (i dont use special characters very often).
I think i also need to find myself a viable way of fitting my powered armoured lib into the force, hmmm...
25727
Post by: Darkvoidof40k
Very nice stuff!
But if you're converting a chapter master, consider first playing DoW2 CR. While many don't consider it as actual fluff, I do (not in gameplay sense, in storyline sense).
If you haven't played it, then the ravens' chapter master is basically Mephiston and Tigurius rolled into one. Might go write some special rules for him now..
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Yeah i remember the fluff from DoW2, i think i will set my army after those events it would certainly be interesting to see some rules for that guy and it could really be a interesting model to have ago at.
I guess i could use mephiston if i choose to use the blood angels codex rather than the standard codex, librarian dreads do seem like something that Ravens would have a few of.... hmm...
25727
Post by: Darkvoidof40k
Ah, but as the next DoW 2 hasn't been made yet, that dude is still up and kicking .
-goes off to write the rules-

Post by: itsonlyme
Yes but they have written books i believe, i think they say that gab is chapter master, hmm that could be cool actually, calgar with a daemon hammer in one hand and a stormbolter in the other.
25727
Post by: Darkvoidof40k
Although most probably say fluff overides game, but I'd take it as the books take place after the DoW 2 series, I mean, who wouldn't want Gabby as chapter master?
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
hmm, so many ideas :( i feel like a kid in a candy ship, gabby would look awesome in terminator armour and i think calgar is a fitting model... hmm.. Its obvious even from the game however that the librarian isnt going to remain chapter master all that long!

Post by: Stephen Bond
Mabey you could paint Azariah kyras with an evil look or somthing, that would be nice
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Hmm, i dont know if i will do him, i am thinking of some sort of terminator character based on Calgar, either it will be using his rules and just slightly altered model, A chapter master with a pair of lightning claws or a chapter master with Daemon hammer and storm bolter (gabby, why wouldnt he have terminator armour if chapter master!).

Because artificer armour is more awesome
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Yeah but the Calgar model looks awesome and i have always wanted to use that model for something!
here we go update on the scouts, not far from done now, all i have to do really is highlight the black, paint the metal, highlight the leather and paint the gloves on the heavy bolter, shouldnt take me to long
25727
Post by: Darkvoidof40k
It'll take a lot of work.. the amount of smurf iconography on that model is insane... and get rid of that head.
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Yeah i know but it will be so worth it! I certainly will get rid of that headm i might juse a terminator helmet like i have seen done before I also wanted to make a thousand sons lord of of him, how cool woudl that look!
25727
Post by: Darkvoidof40k
Awesomesauce.
Maybe have a chaos knight/iron warrior PROPER helmet type thing? That'd be awesome.. infact, might have to do this myself now

I thought more like the helmet thats one the chaos sorcerer with sword/model that DOW and DOW2 sorcerer is based on.

The novels by C.S. Goto are as far as you can go in the 40k millenium without it becoming Peter Pan.
The thing about Gabriel being Chapter Master is a mistake from UK version of White Dwarf, all other games/novels/fluff refers him as Captain.
Almost forgot a thing, the novels takes place at the same time as the games.

Well after Dawn of War 2: #3 comes out, Gabby WILL be the chapter master. Unless.. they ruin it with some bullcrap about Gabby dying or your character becoming chappymasty.

Post by: Stephen Bond
Yeah i think the beloved <Generic>player carachter will be chapter master to make a "new" gaming experience (just my thoughts)
But yeah the calgar to gabby idea is good. id give him one of your awesome combi bolta plasma dudey guns and the patented daemonhammer (it basically makes gabby who he is)
good luck

Darkvoidof40k wrote:Well after Dawn of War 2: #3 comes out, Gabby WILL be the chapter master. Unless.. they ruin it with some bullcrap about Gabby dying or your character becoming chappymasty.
There is no "he will" in this, it is "he may become chapter master if he manages to defeat Azariah Kyras"! No matter what fans say, nothing is certain.
But if we go by codex standard, the one to assume command over the chapter after the chapter master & chief librarian would be defeated, would be Apollo Diomedes, captain of the honor guards or the captain of the first company depending. (Or was it the chief Chaplin before that?)
But of course, since it's all fictional, he can do whatever he wants, but I'm just saying.

Yeah, this is true. Either make a new topic for the WoCs, or rename this thread " itsonlyme's Blood Raven and WoC project/progress thread - [current project]"
And show more pics of WiPs and PiPs!
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
OK well topic has been renamed, i will certainly get to painting some more blood ravens soon however i tend to alot of swapping and changing so i dont get bored.
Heres a black knight champion
Also here is some more Blood Raven stuff, the captain in terminator armour i painted ages ago, im very tempted to strip him down, get new lightning claws and start again, the other two are WIPs

Post by: Darkvoidof40k
Personally, while that Termy cap is done to a pretty good standard, I think you should repaint it. More practice for you to develop your awesome skills and it shows off more of your awesome skills. Also, I don't particularly like that bleached bone type colour on the torso.. but that's down to taste. Can't wait for the two libbys!
15000
Post by: Stephen Bond
Blood ravens use bleached bone as a secondary colour so dont over do it *speaks from experiance*
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Its actually gold on the terminator captain however i did paint that like 5 years or ago, i think atleast it shows that my painting has continued to improve atleast. I think what i will do is just strp him, get the file out and sort out his right leg, i might try and see if i can sculpt something abit more interesting on his chest piece. Originally he was going to be my Chapter master however after seeing rolepplayers calgar conversion well i think you can see why he will just be a first company captain
On the lib that bleach bone color will go, i actually bought space hulk 2nd hand on ebay and the models had already been undercoated so thats why that model has so much of it on him.
Before i get to doing some ravens im going to finish my black knight champions so here is another update, i think hes starting to come along rather well, i just need to figure out how to paint the flesh on the horse and what im going to do on the shield, i dont think i will do a skull like before

Post by: itsonlyme
Well to be honest im not a massive fan of the Mantic Wraith models anyways, they lack the detail of the knights, in fairness im more of a fantasy player than 40k however it is nice to have some 40k stuff so i can play a wider range of people and perhaps convert them

Cheers mate, i have to say chaos warrior cloaks are something i hate painting, i have actually already painted 60 of them so to be fair i kinda cut a few corners.

Cheers mate, I think that's the greatest compliment i've ever had, so much so i have to sig that! It's funny you say that as that's pretty much the plan!
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Well here's another update for you, not really a whole lot to do, just some free hand, neaten up the skeletons on the banner, eyes, etc.
For my Blood knights i actually plan on using Knights of Dol Amroth, the reason is that they are not actually blood knights but rather Lahmian Vampire knights. When i get the models i will be able to decide on if they need replacement heads or not. The other option is Morgul Knights but i think they would be better to represent proper blood knights rather than lahmian knights.
The more i look at the revanent infantry the more i want to replace them, i think one of the good options is the Army of the Dead box, then again they might make better spirit hosts? I guess another option is to use the Warriors of Minas Tirith with head swaps, weapon swaps and replacing arms and legs.
Arwen or even Eowyn could make a nice Vampire as well.
Finally i think the Rider if the dead (again new head) would make a brilliant Wight king

The best landspeeder model they ever did, I am trying to get another one for the list, I have more ravens in the work, i have 2nd ed tactical squad in the works (i just need some new arms and bolters), command squad is more than half done. I ordered calgar the othet day so i should be able to start my chapter master conversion soon, at some point i will finish the hulk termies but how soon depends on how well the command squad does.

Post by: itsonlyme
Well I also need to get my hands on some melta guns or combi weapons so I can convert some of my squad sergeants, when I get home today I will post the command squad however I'm at my grans atm so who knows when I will get taken home :(
25727
Post by: Darkvoidof40k
I think you should use any combi-melta's you have for sternguard. Much better investment than on Sergeants.
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Well I'm not actually using any stern guard in my army, basically my idea is to drop pod down two squads first turn, combat squad them ( I am thinking maybe one combi flamer, one combi melta) and then I'm not relying on a lone melta to take out a tank, twice the chance, if that fails then I have some powerfist as backup. Besides Its going to look damn cool!
Anyways here's some more WIPs of my Ravens
Command Squad
Captain I will never use but i thought would just look cool
Dread
Tactical squad

Is that the PF from the space hulk termi on the cpt?
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
yes it is, I have a load laying about from when i converted my assault termies
25727
Post by: Darkvoidof40k
Very nice!
But you don't want to combat squad in kill point missions.
Sternguard are amazing (especially if you use Pedro with them).
When I get round to converting some up for my 'fists this is basically what they'll be:
roughly 300pts (not including the pod and Kantor)
3x Combi-melta
1x heavy flamer
10 models
Sergeant with lightning claw (and one of the three combi melta's)
drop pod
Pedro Kantor
This unit can take on pretty much anything and will most likely always make its points back.
Pods in, busts a tank with the melta's or ravages enemy infantry (pretty much ANY enemy infantry in the game) with a bucket load of dakka and heavy flamer fun.
They're also effectively a strong assault unit - 4 attacks on the charge EACH + firing heavy flamer/combi-melta's/bolt pistols (as available). 30 man ork squads, Terminators, assault squads - you name it, it's dead. The only thing I can think of that can reliably survive undamaged by this unit is a Necron monolith. It's an incredibly versatile unit - whether you want to hold objectives, launch a spearhead (with the addition of a locater beacon on the pod), beat things in an assault, shoot something up or whatever.
The only real downside to them is they're not particularly durable (heck, marines can shrug off a lot, but bring in that ap 3, 2, close combat monsters [abaddon, Kharn, Swarmlord etc] and they're in a tight spot. But even then they're likely to do some damage [unless they meet power weapons]).
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Well I might have a look around and see if I can find any models which I think would make cool Sternguard, I might even get a unit of 6 or something in a drop pod, Hell I could use those in conjuction with my tactical squads and drop down in multiple targets
Anyways, heres a update on the command squad

//JAW DROPS// Beautiful! Even though I can't see the pictures particularly well (mostly because of my laptops dirty screen and the fact that I'm currently on the motorway and the light is just stupid/random/flashing) they look absolutely amazing! Also, you might want to check this guy out: http://il.youtube.com/user/Shiznaft1 He has an insane amount of Blood Ravens done to a good (if not brilliant) standard, I can't remember as I haven't seen/he hasn't posted any videos for awhile and quite a bit of his more recent ones aren't about his BR. Oh, itsonlyme, you should enter Golden Demon sometime, y'know that?

Cheers mate (I think), glad you like them, I will certainly check out the utube properly later, I had a quick look and he was talking about his blood angels.
Well heres my Dreadnought pretty much done, just really need to tidy up the skulls on it
I could always give goldern daemon ago i guess, I am meant to be going this year to help run some games so I might see about painting something up, If I get the marneus calgar conversion done I could always enter that, I doubt it would win with the obession of painting everything NMM, glowing eyes and OTT bases.

Post by: Darkvoidof40k
Your Landspeeder is simply beautiful! When I saw it I just thought "oh my God, that is amazing". Keep it up! Also, your models look better with red helmets - the bone colour would just make them look..eh.. y'know? They'd stand out too much, I think. I might be wrong - why not get a spare marine and try it out? Or better yet, just a spare helmet! Then again, a helmet on it's own won't tell us anything.. so no point in that! Your power weapons are pretty nice, but they do look a bit dark - they don't stand out particularly much. Ever thought of doing a lightning pattern? I'm pretty sure with your amazing painting skills, you could easily do it. Keep the great work up! Also, a pic of your entire force together (perhaps on a display board?) would be interesting and nice to see. Edit: just noticed the robes on those veterans - I love the effect you've created there!

6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Cheers guys! glad you like what I have come up with so far, With the bone helmets it works fine on the terminators and such however my thought is more would a command squad outside the first company have them?
Yeah the power weapons ate are abit dark, they are actually painted enchanted blue and then i have added a very slow lightning of the color across the weapon edges, personally I don't really like the lightning effect. the look alot darker now because I put a blue wash over them as I thought they looked to bright lol.
Anyways here's the army shoot, It isnt the great quailty however you work with what you have, thats a camera phone and no tripod :(

Post by: Darkvoidof40k
I'm guessing the drop pod on the left is actually black, and not blue.
Your army is very nice, although it's illegal in a normal game . However I think as an attacking army in Planetstrike it is not only legal but also would probably be pretty awesome!
3 HQ slots
6 Elites slots
6 troops slots
6 Fast Attack slots
3 Heavy support slots
So, have you played any games with this force yet?
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Not its blue however I bought it 2nd hand for like ÂŁ10 so It will get repainted when I get round to it
Yes I know it is illegal however the army had to change a lot from 4th ed, I also have most the bits to make to dev squads in my bitz box (I would just need a couple of extra missile launchers.
Originally the army was
1 Captain in termie armour with claws
2 8 man infiltrating tactical squads squads with vet vet sergeants and powerfist (also had truegrit)
10 scouts with snipers + missile launcher
2 dreads (1 assault cannon, 1 twin-las + missile)
5 assault termies (which I replaced with the space hulk termies).
2 8 man infiltrating dev squads (4 heavy bolters, 2 missiles + 2 lascannons)
8 Man assault squad (sergeant with powerfist)
When 5th came out that army had to go through some massive changes (which I'm still working on), I still need another drop pod for me dread, considering how close I am on a company I decided I may as well go the whole way and get a complete company plus some extra bits.
Also the army has alot more than 3 HQs , you have 3 libs 3 captains, 3 chaplains and will also have a chapter master soon (with the idea stolen from roleplayers).
Sadly the game wish the most I have ever played is 2k and that was in 4th ed, I am however hoping now that I have found a pretty good club, hopefully I can meet some people who would be interested in Apoc.
Never actually played planet strike but when the army is complete (well with enough drop pods for all the dreads and squads) I'm sure it will be pretty fun in a game of planet strike

Planetstrike is pretty terrible, actually. To play, you need like ÂŁ200 of specific terrain first.
IMO try out some 1500pt and 1750 - I find they're the most fun point levels.

Ok, but beware that certain forces "peak" above 2k. 1750 is a good compromise - gives you significant extra "wiggle room" without reducing the importance of each unit too much, as in higher point games, each unit becomes less important as there are more.

The only thing I dislike (but only slightly ) is the helmet. No way would I want Calgar's ugly mug on that model, but I think a different helmet would've been better, as on a model already crowded with detail, the big Terminator helmet is just too big.
Regardless, I can't wait to see the finished product.

Post by: itsonlyme
Cheers mate, well I guess it depends what you feel needs smoothing out for me its really the most of the skills, the rope on the chest piece, the metal (I have redone this anyways), green bits, gold might want touching up and then some work on the base.
I think I also need to do a little more work on the blood raven symbol on the cloak, overall I would say the model is about 80% done. Te other thing to bear in mind is just how much larger this picture is when compared to the actual model so certain things will stand out unlike when your holding the model in your hand.

I agree, the freehand symbol is a bit off, but is better than anything I could achieve . IMO you just need to straighten out the "wings" a bit more and make them more pointy to the end.
Try this:
http://www.heresy-online.net/forums/showthread.php?p=201110
Hope it helps, especially for the rest of your army! (it's amazing what can be found by accident.. )
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
That's actually how I normally do it but the main problem wit that method is I would have to redo parts of the blending on the cloak. I can see what I need to do a fic the symbol up anyways.

Good job on the freehand, and the chapter masters pose is amazing!

Cheers Its only really a very simple conversion with the chapter master but I certainly think it is affective. I still have to tweak him a bit as I can't get some of the skulls or green bits looking right, arg :(

Cheers , I also have another tactical squad I'm working on atm which I should have painted up either by the end of the day or tomorrow, for the Blood Ravens I actually don't have alot more to paint until I can field a fully painte 2k + list
3 Pods, 1 tactical squad, finish scouts, repaint Raider, repaint assault cannon dread, repaint assault termies, finish command squad.

Cheers, hopefully I will have finished drop pod to post tomorrow.
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Well here is some updates..
First is a WIP of a drop pod I just traded and have been trying to repaint (it was originally purple and cream..), I have taken the seats out and will be using it as a dreadnought drop pod.
Next is a combat squad I have been working on
And finally I have something I paintedmany many years ago (during 4th ed I think), I think be wondering if I should repaint it, get a new base and see about starting a Skaven army!
I recently also traded away most of my old empire and some old daemons for a bucket load of DE, I think my 1k army is closer to 3.5k now
As I dont use special characters I have decided to convert the dragon into a standard dread lord on dragon if I ever have the urge to use one ( I did not paint it and it will be repainted )
DE BSB

That. Drop. Pod. Is. Amazing.
As for the rest of that stuff.. can't wait to see it! - if not for the models then for the paintjob you give 'em!
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Cheers mate, glad you like the pod so far, it is certainly not finished yet, I cant really do a lot more on it until I can buy some more paints, sadly my devlun mud and red gore and pretty much gone now :( I also need to get some sort of wire mesh to put over the floor just so it looks more like it should be a dreadnought pod. I also need to to figure out what a effective way of painting scorch marks on the hull as this is really a test pod, I have another 2 to do. Thankfully this does give me a rough idea how long it takes to paint a pod! Now all I need to do is get my hands on some thunder hammer and storm shield arms, paint a few bits and I have a 1.5k list painted and ready to go, after that I just need to find a tournament to enter
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Well here's another updated, I thought I would try out a different effect for doing power weapons, if I'm honest I'm not 100% sure it gone 100% right. When I started to paint the blending on diagonal lines (regal to white) i should have started the base shad with much thinker lines, maybe I should just stick with the normal method.
While I'm not a massive fan of NMM I might give it a try at some point is seems the in think atm.

Wow I just found this blog and I love it. Subscribed!
My favorite is your new chapter master, It's absolutely stunning.
You may find this stupid, but I've been medieval re-enacting for about 5 years now and I've been to some _bigger battles_ (in wolin for example). When You look at some pictures about these festivals You'll notice that only captains move like your chapter master when They want to tell sg to someone or the like.
Well as I said this may sound quite stupid to You but I think if a model brings back these kind of memories It just can't be bad...
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Cheers mate, glad you enjoyed what I have done so far
If I'm honest the chapter master is my favorite, I do however need to redo the cloak at some point, the highlighting is abit rough in places.
That's a interesting you make about how he looks like he is moving, I personally hadn't even given it much thought, I am however at a disadvantage to you in know such things as I have never been involved ant such event.
I'm glad however that he brought back some great memories, that really is a nice bonus
BTW, here is a finsihed zombie, now I just have to get my arse in gear and paint the rest of them!

@ Asherian command - cheers, glad you like my odd way of painting.
updated zombies, certainly not my best painting but they will do

i would say the cloth is too flat on the zoombies. i would try to make it look like the beautiful cloth of the BA termie!!
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Cheers guys, Well I wasnt as bothered by the zombies as they were just for Mantic who have been **** me about for a while now.
I have to say I do find it hard to bring myself to actually paint those grave guard/revanent models because they simply are not as nice many of the other models sitting on my desk.
I have updated the look my Tzeentch warriors, I decided they looked to bright and really I could have painted them better, please excuse the picture quality as since I moved I cannot find my proper camera so this is with my phone which is just weird.
Basically I have started with chaos black and kept gradually adding morian blue until it was basically mordian blue, I then added a small amount of skull white and did a final highlight which was followed by blue wash.
I still have a lot to do on them, metal in places, make the boots look better, fur some of the blue got on it + I added some greenstuff to fill some gaps, I also need to touch up the bone.
I also think I am going to redo the horn.
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Well here are some more WoC updates
First is my BSB, I have done some more work on the banner and would really like some suggestions on what else I could include on the banner.
Next are some better pictures of the Tzeentch warriors
here is a comparison of picture, the lighter one is how the unit was painted, personally I think it looks a lot better with the darker color
Finally I decided to start updaing how I painted my khorne warriors, I did paint them several years ago, I have repainted the weapons, gloves, belts, better blood effects (this is starting to sound likea fallout mod) and fur (well on the champion, still need to do the fur on the standard).
I have a few commissions on the way, one being Angels Encarmine and the other being a Biel Tan Eldar and hopelly Prescient Omega studios will send me some woodies to paint soon for another one

Nice WoC!! The "latest" daemon face on banner seems far better than the blue one... Did you touch it up recently?
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
cheers mate, well all i did on the BSB banner was add some worm hair and touched up the nose, I actually haven't done anything with the face itself. I'm still not happy with it but I'm not as unhappy with it, I like the face on the Khorne banner more but I was in different mood when I painted it.

these models are so cooollll
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
@ Monkeh - hes a limited edition gamesday model, I was lucky and found him on ebay for ÂŁ9, normally they go for about ÂŁ30 I think. The only thing that I don't like about him is the storm bolter, I dont really want to cut it off (well I do but I don't if that makes sense!)
@sageheart- cheers mate, at some point I am goingto have to try and finish that metal tactical marine squad off as well.
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Well here is what I plan to do with all my chaos knights in the future, when I get some cash I will be hitting ebay and getting as many of the new chaos steeds as I possible can as well as a few more of the old chaos knights. My plan is to have 4 units of Khorne knights + 1 unit of Tzeentch nights. 3 units of the Khorne knights will be 8 man + character on a jugger, one will be a 9 man with a character on a steed (archoan conversion). The unit of Tzeentch knights will be 9 + Tzeentch hero on steed. In total I will 19 Chaos knights + 20 chaos steeds (1 for a chariot).
should be interesting for when I want to get some big scale battles in (and once I find some regular gaming opponent).
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Well here is another update, I have just about finished my Khorne warriors (well I need to get another 3 or make a unit filler).
Here is a picture of some of my older chaos warriors to give a idea how they used to look and to also give a idea how I intend to change the look of my army.
hopefully tomorrow I will get the Tzeentch warriors finished but I guess that depends on how much time I am forced to spend in town :(
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Oh ok lol, well here you go then, some more hero models!
First is the jugger hero I converted when the new juggers first came out, such a cool model, I was a bit annoyed however when they made the new Khorne Lord :( This guy does did to be redone abit as he was painted some time ago.
Next is the warhammer quest chaos warrior, the painting is ok, I think some minor tweaks will greatly improve the models look.
As I don't really use either of these very much they aren't that high on list of things to do.
Finally is the Wulfrik conversion, I hate special characters, I never use them and I only got the model because I bought a spearhead.

Update on the Champion, all that really needs doing is the black, the skin, bit more on the leather and I'm trying to decide if I am happy with the skulls

looking good! keeping tabs on this blog, but i dont play WFB I'm waiting for updates on the blood Ravens!
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Cheers mate, well I wont be doing a lot of Blood Ravens for a while, I will finish the terminators and command squad off in the near future. I have just taken on a Eldar and Angels Encarmine commission from a couple on here so when they arrive I will post some pictures of those up.
In all honesty I haven't all that much more I need to get painted for my blood Ravens, finish a pod, paint another two, finish some scouts.
23589
Post by: Sageheart
makes sense. Angels encarmine sounds awesome! what exactly will you be making for that?
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Just 30 tactical marines, the Eldar one is going to be a lot more interesting, a bit of everything to paint really
23589
Post by: Sageheart
that sounds interesting enough. doing anything special to the tac. squads!
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Well this is all I have been asked to do:
1st squad: White Skull on a black background
# 2nd squad: White Skull on a blue background
# 3rd squad: Red blood drop on a yellow background
# 4th squad: Red blood drop on a black background
# 5th squad: White X on a black background
# 6th squad: White X on a blue background
Models have already been glued and sprayed so not really a whole lot I can do with them :( I'm more interested in painting something I have painted a million times before, I have played 40k since 2nd ed, I have painted a fair few marines in my time
Automatically Appended Next Post: Well here is a WIP of my first Chaos troll

Well here is the start of my Eldar commission, hopefully tomorrow i will have white on the rest of the unit finished assuming don get any more phone calls tonight!
After this this I will have a Banshee exacrh, 2 warlocks and a Autarch to paint (until the next batch arrives anyways). The white is painted with:
1) base coat astronomican grey
2) watered down shadow grey
3) dry brush Astronomican grey
4) water down layers of skull white
Stage for does take abit of time per model but I think it looks pretty effective.

Well its pretty much finished now, trying to figure out if its needs something else doing to it and also I am thinking of redoing the gems to be a brighter color, maybe Mordian blue/Enchanted blue/50/50 enchanted blue+ skull white.
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Well here is a update on the Eldar Commission I am doing,
Guardians
Now that I have done the White on the unit the the longest part is out of the way, I am hoping to get the unit finished tomorrow.
Warlocks
I decided to take a break from painting the guardians, with the best will in the world painting the same model over and over again can get a bit much, I just need to find some decent pictures of Eldar runes to paint on the robes just to make them look a bit more interesting, hopefully I can find my old 2nd ed Eldar Codex if not I'm sure I can find something on Google!
Banshee Exarch
Pretty much finished now, just really the eyes, hair and space marine helmet to finish.
From this batch I just have a Farseer and Autarch to paint, hopefully the next lot will arrived at the end of the week which should give me time to paint some wardancers and actually paint some of my own models!

Cheers mate, well you had a really good idea for a simple but effective conversion, i was debating if to keep the powerfists at one point. I decided against because I don't use special characters. I still think Calgar would make a excellent Thousands sons Sorcerer, the upper part of the terminator armour seems the perfect sort of shape.

itsonlyme wrote:Cheers Tim, well hopefully I can get the Guardians and warlocks done by tomorrow! I do think I need to find a quicker way of painting white :(
Prime white. It makes painting white a snap. Also it makes painting yellow easy and i find that black and dark colors cover and look just fine on white primer. Priming white will make all of your colors more brilliant but you sacrifice "grittiness".
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
@ Crimsonmicc - I might well try that, guess I need to pop into GW tomorrow at some point then!
Well I decided to have ago at the games days sorcerer, to be honest I wasn't really sure what the best color was to paint it and I don't think I did the skin all that great, obviously very wip, feedback welcome.
Well here is some progress on the Guardians, I did however have some more arrive to day along with a few other bits.
I also decided to start on the warseer
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Well I did some more work on the Farseer this morning, I redid the white as I was not at all happy with it, I think this has been a interesting learning experience for me on how to actually paint white properly.
I think its coming along nicely, I have lightened the green somewhat when compared to the warlocks, my aim is to get this finished along with the Guardians today.
23589

i like that farseer!

Post by: itsonlyme
Here is some more WIP's, I have tried using the new camera, trying to figure out what the best setting is (has far more than my old camera :( )
I have also retaken the pictures of the Banshee Exarch, partly of a comparison picture and partly so it can see better (I would never be able to get my old camera half as a close as that!)
I'm not exactly sure why the Banshee picture came out better than the others, I had it on the same settings and everything??
25727
Post by: Darkvoidof40k
The colours might have had an affect, or perhaps it was just focussed a bit better for that one? Oh and by the way, that Exarch looks great!
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Might of even been the distance I took the picture at, I was pretty close and I always forget just how much bigger the pictures are in comparison to my old camera.
Cheers mate, I do think think the green is a bit dark on the Exarch, I will redo that when I start the rest of the unit.
6672

Well mate, if you want to pay a lot more for the sake of a week of your choice, anyways I am doing a secret Santa on another forum, I thought I would have a go at NMM, here is a WIP.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Well here are a few more updates.
Banshee Unit WIP
obviously still a early wip, once I finish the armour at least that is the bulk of the painting done on them.
Ultramarine's
First combat squad done, i need to go into town and get some greenstuff so I can make a start on the sergeant, hopefully I will get these finished tomorrow, I am getting a bit annoyed with the new camera, I can't really see what I am doing wrong photowise, daylight lamp, half decent camera resting on a flat surface :(
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Well here is a update on the banshee's
Here is a update on the secret Santa
Well I decided this model has been sitting about long enough so I thought I had better make a start on it, with the crappy errata to juggers I need a new general to my army, the cloak is experiment. As I have said before I have decided to go back and repaint my older models, I was trying to find a color that would work better with the dark look of my chaos army, I think I might use the same color on my Chaos warriors but I am not 100% sure if I like it or not.
Photos are also taken on the exactly the same setting, cant see why the banshee's came out darker....
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Well here are some minor updates, first is I have finished the chaos troll, I am in half a mind about painting some blood on the club, I will leave it for now.
Next one is the Khorne Lord/Exalted, I have started to highlight the chaos steed, I don't plan on making the black highlights to extreme, maybe another two stages which should end up slightly darker than shadow grey. I also have some more work to do on the blood, I need to darken it, the next stage of this will be a 50/50 mix of Tamyia clear red/black wash. I think I have finally decided, the cloak is the color I am going to use on my Chaos knights/warriors/etc.
Suggestions welcome, later on tonight I am going to have ago at making that Gamesdays sorcerer look a lot cooler, I will be painting the robe the same color as the cloak on my Chaos lord, The skin I might actually go for a much paler color.
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Well here is a small update on my Chaos warrior repaint, I had ago at doing some of Khorne warriors with great weapons, they are certainly not finished, please bear in mind I originally painted this when the Chaos warrior models first came out, this is more of a patch up job, if Forgeworld release Khorne warrior models these all may get replaced.
I still need to finish the blood on the weapons, metal around horns, wood, bones and weapon grips, belts, I may well do another highlight on the boots however I was going for a more subtle look. I would also like to see if I can get hold of more of the chaos knights hand weapons from ebay and replace all the weapon heads in the unit, I may also look into getting some resin bases for them in the near future, I have also liked the idea of a ruined temple base.

Well here is some updates on the WoC, I am now just waiting on a bitz order to arrive from america so I can finish the great weapons, here is a picture of what my Great weapon warriors used to look like.
This is as far as I have got so far one the repaint, I still have the boots to highlight and I need to make the fur look a bit better.
I am also looking into getting some resin bases but i really cant decide what the best one to get for my Khorne Warriors and Jugger hero, here the kinda ones I am thinking about.

Well here is a another update on my WoC, first up is my Khorne warriors with great weapons, i think I am pretty much happy with the result now, All I am waiting for is some more chaos warriors to arrive in the post so I can convert the final 3. As you can see I have decided to totally change the the way I do my bases in future. I am not going to be using skulls on all my chaos, my Tzeentch warriors will use the destroyed temple bases.
Here is a start to my hellcannon

Khorne Lord
So what is left to do:
tweak base in places
repaint his right arm
reduce the amount of blood on head in left hand
redo chipped bits
I plan to either finish that tonight or tomorrow.

Look good, other than the stuff that you mentioned. Also, that Axe is just too.. un-chaosy. It needs more blood and skulls. Maybe paint a symbol of Khorne on the axe?
33919
Post by: Moltar
I believe that axe is from the Shaggoth and all though it is awesomely huge, I agree with darkvoid, in that, it's too plain for a Khorne Lord. Really, it's too plain for the Shaggoth IMO. Some dangly chains and skulls would probably dress it up enough, though. Other than that he looks sweet. I like the head/face on the Juggernaught.

this is some great stuff! the sheer diversity of models that you have/are working on is astounding. i am a big fan of your flesh tones, some of the helmetless SM models i saw in your early posts were great!
given time i think you will be one of the better painters in the dakka community... its always amazing to watch peoples quality of work improve with every piece they do... keep it up!
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
@ Darkvoidof40k @ Moltar - i can see what you guys mean, I could always paint some glowing symbols on it or something (maybe to match his eyes?)
@ kukuchik - Thankyou! I think when i look back and my blood ravens I am just not as happy with them as I was say 6 months ago, this is also why I am repainting my WoC, chances are in another 6 months time I will be thinking the same!
Here is a update on the chaos knights and khorne lord (before reading your posts)
Blood Angels Commission I am working on
Lots more commission work to come, Dark Eldar (old models sadly), Ravenwing battleforce turned ultramarine, another 2 ultramarine battleforces, should keep me busy for a while atleast!
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Blood Angels are now finished
Here is the start of my next commission, its a Ultramarine army for a tournament in a GW store, basically you buy a battleforce and use that. You can only use whats in the box however i was originally told other bits for decoration are fine. My client has bought a Raven Wing box and wants to use them as Ultramarines so here is the Captain with Relic blade.
I have to say at some point I might buy myself a ravenwing box for my blood ravens, would be able to make a rather cool Chaplain from it it (would sell the landspeeder however)
25727
Post by: Darkvoidof40k
Awesome Captain on that awesome bike! Can't wait to see it painted.
As for the BA, they're a bit too dark for me.. but I can see you've put a lot of work into them and they obviously look far better than 80% of anyone in the world's models.

The BA and bikers aren't actually mine, just commission work but it did make me want to get some bikers for my blood ravens at some point
With the Khorne lord I think I will getting some etched brass Khorne symbols for his axe and then painting them like glowing runes. Hopefully I can get those before the 29th so he will be finished for a up coming tournament.

Looking good, I'm especially anticipating the Power Sword, because those are often the most interesting and beautiful parts of space marine models.
Regardless, that head is looking really good! Very clean! Can't wait to see the end result, it promises to be very.. how should I say.. AWESOME!
Keep up the great stuff man.

itsonlyme wrote:Here you go, update on the biker captain, I actually had to change the head as my client informed he couldn't use anything not in the box, still I think it looks ok, kinda reminds me of one of the older metal captains head! tomorrow I should have a update on him and the unit of bikers so watch this space.

Is it just my eyes or does it look like there's a little lump of plastic where the piece was cut from the sprue on the left 'wing' of the bike?
The painting however is very nicely done.

@ Darkvoidof40k - Cheers mate! I actually just finished him, I wont post the picture up now but at some point tomorrow, hopefully you will like the powersword, I have tried something different.
@ bunnygurl - Yeah that is a bit of plastic, i have just tried to remove it, keen eye, anyways cheers and hopefully you will like the final product.

*pukes on the floor*
i'm sick of you! now i'm going to have to cry in a corner all alone....
anyway OT i like the gold on the model, and the paintwork on the wings (i'm still not forgiving you!)
are you gonna do like a glaze sort of effect on the PW? it'll look really cool.
anyway keep up the good work!
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
LOL cheers Dark, the gold effect is actually really easy to do. Its just shining gold, few highlights by adding mithril silver and then a flesh was over the top.
As for the Relic blade ( ) it was a bit of a experiment but i think I am happy with the result and hopefully my client will be as well! next up is the 5 man biker squad
Automatically Appended Next Post: Bike Squad is well underway, hopefully i can get them finished tomorrow as well getting the attack bike started.

love the marines, pity on the head change, but it still looks great!
my only issue is that the PW is blue, I think the PW should be a color that would go with the blue armor, rather than mimic it. I like the way you painted it, but I just always found them to be a fun way to use a color the army doesn't normally have but brings an interesting contrast to the table. just my own thoughts.
overall great work!

Post by: Darkvoidof40k
I like how only the Commander's bike has the wings, but you probably should have put it on the sergeant as well, or at least paint the Sergeant's helmet red to make him for noticeable.
Ah well, it's all looking good so far!
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
@ Sageheart - Cheers mate, i tend to do my power weapons blue, I know in the older books it said that power weapons are surrounded by a blue energy field, that and its just force of habit really.
@ Darkvoidof40k - Cheers mate, my client doesn't like the wings, when i gave him a picture of the captain he actually said he hoped the rest didn't have wings. I can kinda see what you mean but I think if the sergeant had them as well then the Captain wouldn't stand out as much.
23589
Post by: Sageheart
oh I see, I do recall older books mentioning blue as the color of Power weapons. Your power weapons look wonderful! I just always go for a contrast color, mostly just to add in another color.
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
No i certainly get what you saying, mind you when I started playing 40k in 2nd ed I collected Blood Angels, the way I thought of doing power weapon colors was more based on Race (different power sources and all).
Anyways pretty much finished the bikers now, I have just have to tweak some details on the knee pads (which I will do once i have finished the attack bike).
25727
Post by: Darkvoidof40k
Those bikes are looking amazing dude! It's nice to see you incorporated the red helmet .
I really want to copy your work because those Ultramarines are so amazing, really, but I play Crimson Fists so..
You should do more Ultramarines, you know. Infact, here's an idea: paint up an Ultramarines army (maybe a biker army? ) and then sell it on ebay.
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Heh cheers mate, after I painted the sergeant and I was looking at the codex and was like "Doh!".
Don't worry i will be doing plenty more Ultramarines, the guy I have done these for also ordered the tactical squad and I also after a biker command squad. Next month i will also be painting 2 battleforces as ultramarines, maybe when I can afford it i will do a small Ultramarine army.
I do want to so a small biker force for my Blood Ravens a some point, I have to say looking back at some of my blood ravens I am really not happy with how they look.
33681
Post by: bunnygurl
Mhmm! That bike squad is a sight to behold. Definitely like the power swords.
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Cheers! i am pretty happy with how its turned out so far, I might redo the sergeants power weapon, not sure, anyway tomorrow I will have another update, Attack bike is nearly finished and I might see if I can get the speeder done as well.
Once thats all done then its time to start on the Dark Eldar (old models sadly :( ) and then back to my WoC so I can try and get them finished in time for the tournament.

Hi everyone, Im Liam and itsonlyme is currently doing my commision work on ultramarines
Yes those bikers look the buisness, i am really impressed with the captain and think you have done a really good job, cant wait to get my hands on him
Now as everyone in this thread has stated yes you are awesome at painting making these models but what noone else in this thread knows is just how good you really are.
I am new to the world of warhammer and specifically 40k and Poor Mark (itsonlyme) gets me asking loads of questions about what can be done to units etc, but he also comes up with some awesome ideas on what should be done. Infact for the tournament i am going in this Feb you can only use what is in the battle box so Mark has done really well to make a unique character and im still very impressed by the relic sword as these have been conversions he has done himself!
Also as he has stated he will be doing many more Ultramarines for me in future so im sure he will share them all with you
Thx Mark your awesome so stay being just that

Post by: itsonlyme
@ Sageheart - cheers mate, I have to say until I painted some i wasn't really a fan of Ultramarines myself, it has been nice to paint something other than red (ravens, Khorne WoC and formely my old chaos marine army). Don't worry I don't mind painting marines at all, i actually started with marines in 2nd ed so I think if I was going to get sick of them I would have done it by now!
If you are serious about getting me to paint some up for you just drop me a email (its is my sig) or a PM and I can give you a quote!
@ Liam - Cheers mate, hopefully your mate I did the blood angels for will be equally as impressed with his! I was glad I actually had a go at the battleforce as it has shown me how great the content of the box is! I think I will be nicking some of the bits for my Ravens (the massive books look like they need a home on on my landraider!)
Anyways cheers again mate, its great to hear feed back like that!

Cheers guys! well looks like I am well on the way to finishing the landspeeder, just finished the blue, tomorrow will have that finished and I can start on the Dark eldar.
So I have 11 days to get all this done :(
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Finally finished the landspeeder, next thing I have is 40odd DE Wyches and 4 bikes (I think), all the old models.
23589
Post by: Sageheart
love the land speeder, only issue is the XIII seen in the 2nd pic is a bit crooked. good freehand, but its bit too easy to see its slant.
the ultramarine Us are very welldone!
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Cheers mate, I had noticed that myself actually, i should really use a pen rather than a brush to do my freehand.
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Well I decided to go back and redo my captain so now he is armed with a Relic blade (well Axe) rather than thunderhammer, changed the backpack and head and given him a repaint, he is still WIP atm.
After this I have another 2nd ed landspeeder that I am stripping at the moment and then at some point I have to get my drop pods all done.
25727
Post by: Darkvoidof40k
He's coming along well. Might want to edit the thread title, though. No Ultramarines here.
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Cheers mate, I think he is a improvement on the original on the first page atleast, not so sure about the relic blade/axe however, might have to redo that.
Titled updated :p
I also have plans to redo my terminator Lib as I feel my painting has improved a lot since I originally did him.
Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to start on some Ultramarines, I have about another battle force to stick together, sadly its only table top standard :(
Fingers crossed the stormraven arrives tomorrow which I am being commission (along with a forgeworld Ironclad) to do.

Post by: Some_Call_Me_Tim?
Wowwee, the old Dark Eldar models where terrifying, and not in a good way! Still, you made 'em look good! How did you do the glow Lylyths purple sword? _Tim?
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Yeah I have admit I am not a massive fan of the older models but cheers the power sword is pretty easy, Its just Lichepurple blended up with skull white concentrating on corners and the doing a Z shape along the blade with a few random lines.
Think I need to redo the Captain sword with a darker blue.
33681
Post by: bunnygurl
Captain looks great. Favorite bits are the axe and the cloak.
25727
Post by: Darkvoidof40k
I don't really like the Captain now. Don't get me wrong, it's an above-standard paint job, but it doesn't work too well. Not enough contrast; brightness. I reckon you should get some bright(er?) gold in there, as well as making any blue a lot lighter, especially on the shield and axe and try to give it a really light 'lightning' look. Kind of like the Sanguinary Guard weapons that 'Eavy Metal painted.
Hope my humble suggestions help in some way.

your tabletop standard = my best work.i love your stuff
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
@ Bunnygirl - Cheers
@ Darkvoidof40k - Well I will admit I am still not happy withe axe, I don't if i entirely agree with on the darkness aspect, I personally prefer a darker look to my models (look at my WoC). Bare in mind the brighter stuff I do is actually for other people, as for the lightning effect on the sang guard its cool however i don't know if its really the effect I am looking for.
@ shingouki - Cheers! obviously you haven't discovered the joy of the new wash range
25727
Post by: Darkvoidof40k
Hey; your models, your call. Whatever you're happy with dude, it'll look good, I'm sure. [edit for typo correction]
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Well its nothing personal however I don't think their is a right or a wrong way to paint a model, its simply what you like or what you don't like, at the end of the day it would be a boring world if we all liked the same things. With me I want a more dark gritty look to my Blood Ravens, in comparison to say Roleplayers I think they pull it off.
I am still not happy with the relic blade/axe however so I think I will redo it again, I might well use a brighter blue and see how it turns out, I actually used enchanted blue on it so I might see if I can mix something up.
For my Blood Ravens I also plan on repainting my terminator Lib, it looked good when I did it however again I think my painting has improved significantly since I painted that, still I have a few Commission jobs to do before that and a landspeeder to finish stripping (so happy I managed to get another one on Ebay).
In the near future I will be starting a new 40k army, I think I am leaning towards a space wolf army simply because I want to paint up some wolf guard terminators, I have a Logan Grimnar model laying about as well which i would like to convert in a wolf priest so when i can get a suitable head for and weapon head it I will get started on that
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Well here's a bit of a experiment at creating some dragon ogres , I plan on making two units of 6, one with extra hand weapons and maybe another with great weapons, still have to wait on the greenstuff to properly dry before I can continue on it so its still very much WIP.
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Well here is a update on my Ultramarine commission job which is done to table top standard, still not finished yet, need to be neatened up, bases finished and chapter/squad markings put on.
After these are done I have two scout squads, 2 rhinos and two vet squads to do and then I can start on the Skaven commission job

6672
Post by: itsonlyme
You could take that a few ways, they are painted using Ultramarine blue and to be fair I didn't spend hours trying to get the best picture, I don't see the point when they are only table top standard.

If you're gonna paint 'em, paint 'em good.
Honestly, I don't know many people that paint Ultramarines to a good standard (as you've shown, frequently, that you can) that use Ultramarines Blue for basecoats. Ultramarines Blue is more often than not a highlight in my experience.
Meh, whatever works for you. You're getting payed, so the less work you have to do, the better I 'spose.

I always use Ultramarines blue as the base color! I just use a blue wash over the top as well

By the way dude, I do sigs/Avatars for people. If you want, I could do you one and/or the other, maybe advertizing your commission painting? Or maybe just a "standard badass" will suit you best .

Scuse' me for interupting your flirtations guys
Have you considered an airbrush bud? You pump out work at a crazy speed, but an airbrush would take care of base coating and blending (especially on marines!) much much quicker and a great many dakka-ites have had some serious success with them.
I love what you do with the reflective sheen on your power weapons, nice work. It's good to see new techniques (or old ones really) used effectiely, rather than just the same old NMM sang guard everywhere!
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Cheers mate, thats certainly something I would like to invest in the near future how money is a bit tight, glad to hear you like the power weapons! It was a bit if a experiment which I think works better on swords. At some point I need to dig my WoC out of the carry case and finish them off, they have been sitting in the case since I went to winter war in Jan.
I had an email from the client I am county the table ultramarines for and he seems happy enough, man if I had a air brush I would have them finished by now :(

The ultras are looking blooming good in my opinion, after all they are only table top right?
If you are looking into airbrushes then you should check out the AS-186 compressor (ÂŁ69.33) with the BD-130 or BD-132 airbrush (19.92). It gives you a simple set up for less than ÂŁ100 once you add in the hoses.

Cheers guys, when I have my proper net up and running I will post the finished pictures (using my mob). Just have to finish off the last bits, just a shame I didn't have some stormbolters to make the vets look more like sternguard. Yeah they are only table top standard /ÂŁ2 a pop job.

I definitely reccomend his painting service.

Post by: itsonlyme
Cheers bob! thanks for your feedback and hopefully next time you need something painted you will drop me another email!
Well here’s a update on the painting, first up is a update on the Skaven
Stormvermin
Champion was originally a demo model, client sent it back with the commission, they all done to slightly above table top (better skin basically), I redid the blood effect for him which he had added afterwards, client is also going to base them.
Clanrat Standards
Again the based one was a demo model sent back to remind me how I had originally painted everything, painted to same standard as the Stormvermin, I am happy enough with them and hopefully my client will be, hopefully in the next week or so I should be receiving some more skaven to paint, a unit of clanrats and a Greysheer, next up commission wise is the ironclad dreadnought and stormraven which is all Ultramarine.
Now for some of my own bits.
Chosen Chaos Warriors
Well here is the start of my Tzeentch unit I am taking to the next tournament, only another 9 to paint (well and finish these off obviously), after that I have 3 chaos trolls (well old stone trolls) and a warshrine to paint (finally!).
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Well I got something in the post this morning so I decided I wanted to have ago at starting my new BSB, heres what I have done so far, obviously its still WIP and need to decide what kind of bases I will be using for it and my Tzeentch Chosen but i am happy with it looking so far.
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Wel here is a update on the BSB, it was suggested to me that I put blood on the spikes on the banner with some trophies (I am really liking this idea), anyways I think he is coming along nicely and is a improvement on the old model (which I might have to stick on ebay!)
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Here's some more pictures, first is a update on the BSB, all I have done is change the base, I think I am going to go with skull bases on the unit of chosen with the BSB have the more impressive looking one
Next is the Chaos sorcerer, just a base change however i am thinking I might repaint the robe and make him look like a Tzeentch guy as I think he might fit with the theme of the army better than the bird head guy
Next i have finally started to paint the warshrine (I was working on this while I was in GW on sunday waiting for a game)

Post by: taffiarti
Love the freehand on the banner and the "glow" effect on the eyes. I really look forward to seeing the warshrine finished. It just looks so beefy and solid!

itsonlyme wrote:Cheers mate! I'm really not all that happy with how the banner turned out, I'm going to redo it but first I have a ultramarine Ironclade and stormraven to finish!
An Ultramarine Stormraven? Or is that for the BA commission?
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Yeah a Ultramarine stormraven, I know i was given the impression by local staff it was going to be made avaible to all chapters, I don't know if that is the case but my client advance ordered it (liam how posted in here earlier). I would assume it would be made avaible to all chapters just as the Crusader was when it first came out, originally that was Black Templar only and then WD released the rules making it a 0-1 choice for other chapters, sadly I havent bought a WD in years. Automatically Appended Next Post:
Anyways as i said I wasnt happy with the banner so here is the MK2, its finished yet and I really have no idea what to do next, all I know is I need to do something else to it, any suggestions would be great!
Next one is my Commission work
Well here is the Ironclad I have been working on, nearly finished, just realy a bit of tweaking.
Finally the Ultramarine Stormraven I am working, still a lot to do on this
32626
Post by: taffiarti
That banner i mightily impressive. I can see what you mean about missing something.
I think it may be as simple as the banner itself is not complete on the model (missing th bottom left in the picture). Therefore your design seems a tad high as it would leave such a large section on the blank at the bottom. Maybe put some writing at the bottom that appears to have been started in the"missing section".
25727
Post by: Darkvoidof40k
Nice work on the Ironclad, especially the white, which has come out brilliantly!
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
@ taffiarti - Thanks mate, on the brightside it does look better than the MK1 banner, I think what i will do to fill in space is paint various chaos runes over the banner, should be interesting, after that I just need to tweak the face.
@ Darkvoidof40k - cheers mate, hopefully I can get these finished today or tomorrow and get started on the DE, hopefully wont take to long.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Well I have a few updates, first one is the BSB, pretty much done now, I still feel like I need to do something with it but I am not sure, maybe some more blood?
next up is a small amout of work on the warshrine, still loads more to do!

Hi Itsonlyme great stuff and congrats on your commision success. Just a couple questions:
Your recent models of the Chaos Battle standard bearer and the one named harry; are they games day minis? Or are they conversions?
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Cheers Perkustin, the BSB is the Avatars of war chaos lord (which is slightly converted) and harry is a limited edition model released by GW called harry the hammer, you can usually find him ebay.

Post by: Da Boss
I like the Dragon Ogre conversions, well done! Makes me think about how I would do great weapon wielding Drogres. Bestigors?
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
@ Moltar - cheers! well once I finished off the halberd warriors I will get the warshrine finished, after that all I have to really do is the dragon ogres and then do the glow effect on the on the HW+SH warriors, all this has to be done by the 14th as well as painting a random bit of terrain, I also think when I get back from the SCGT I will go back and redo certain things like some of the horns and what not.
@ Da Boss - Cheers, what you could do is use the same upper bodies and then use the marauder flail armies and just swap the top of the weapons for a axe, mace head, what no doubt be cheaper if you have marauders or marauder horsemen depending on what weapons you gave them.
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Well been a while since I did any painting and really been on a forum, not really been able to paint for a while for one reason or another. Anyways thanks for my clients for their understanding, you have been great! so the painting has started, at some point I will have some WoC updates to post but for now here is the start of a Guard commission.
Karshin
Still not finished but well on the way atleast, not sure if I like how the powersword and cream has turned out in places.

Those are some sweet-ass motherf*ckers right there! I can't wait to see more! When I first looked at them I thought they were done; and I was gonna suggest doing more. But then I read your post .
These guys are going to look absolutely stunning when they're done! Some of GW's best models, right there.
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Cheers mate, glad you like them so far, I agree, these are certainly some of the best models GW has done, also have two command squads, commissar and a group of heavy weapons to do. After that its a unit of 20 clanrats, then some sternguard and finally some sisters of battle (only table top standard).
Should keep me busy for a few weeks anyways

Here we go, update on these guys, should have some more pictures to post tomorrow of the normal special weapon guys.

Post by: Darkvoidof40k
Hmm.. maybe it's just the photo.. but.. they seem really dull.
The Sergeant would really stand out more (whilst looking spectacular ) if his sword had more "glowing" patches, like the one in the middle.
Otherwise, looking good.
6672
Post by: itsonlyme
Maybe, honestly I think I have lost the nack with my camera, I really need a tripod so or something, currently I am holding it and obviously its blurring slightly. Thing is I am also painting them as per guided by the client just offering my advice on how to do certain things.
Anyways I have been painting currently I am working on some Sisters of battle 30 sisters and 20 storm troopser (well roughly). These are only to a basic table top standard.
Next are some bits of my own.
Dragon ogres I took to a tournament, I really need to go back and tidy these up as I painted these in a rush
Well finally I have decided it is time to start a grey knights army, I was originally going to do one when I found some cheap on ebay but I decided to concentrate on my Blood Ravens, bored of my Blood Ravens, wanting something that plays differently from the drop pod assault force here I am, currently I only have 5 of the old grey knights in power armour which I am in the process of trying to redo as I painted them some time ago.
Here is the List I plan on building
HQ
Grey Knight Grand Master
- Master Crafted Nemesis Force Halberd
- Rad Grenades
- Psychotroke grenades

Model wise I plan on using the metal grey knights (for now) as Purifier squad, I might in time replace them with plastic grey knights, for the Grandmaster I tend to convert him from lord Draigo (I am still deciding to give him a halberd or sword), anyways here is the first guy I have been working on (not finished

Well had some more bits arrive today!
Paladins
Now I just need to get my hands on another psycannon arm, I was originally going to have these guys just with force halberds however I decided the Daemon hammer is to cool not to use
Strike Squad
I still have another 5 to put together.
Purifier Squad
I am thinking I might rebase these actually to fit with the rest of the army better.
I still don't have all the models I need for the army, I still need another strike squad, I plan on actually use all metal psycannons on my strikes squads (so only need one more box of grey knights), I also need another two purifiers, a stormraven, a forgeworld dreadnought and granmaster model.
Thankfully I will be able to get most of this in the next month or so!
For my granmaster I was originally think Draigo would be very cool however I have start to think that Marnus Calgar would make a excellent GM conversion. Thismeans the the arms from him will go on my blood ravens chapter master as a count as Calgar (as he has lightning claws currently).

Now I just have to wait for my Drago to arrive and I can start on the grandmaster conversion!
Now the SoB commission is finished its time to start on some ultramarine sternguard

Well my Draigo Trade arrived today so I decided to stick together my basic idea for a Grandmaster, not so sure on the head choice yet, I don't think I will be using the standard head as it looks out of proportion with the other GK terminator heads (but would work very well with calgar body lol!).

I think your force weapons look pretty awesome, itsonlyme. My only thought ( and it's my opinion, you don't have to listen) is why would that bird still be purched on that rock when a dread walks by? Wouldn't it fly away?

Hi thanks Moltar! I did redo the weapon today while I was in GW, still 100% happy with it I think the main problem is the shape doesn't allow for a effect like on the GM force halberd which is now starting to bug! To be honest the Raven was just sitting in my bitz box and I thought it would just add something abit more interesting to base (actually two on the base, one is picking the brains out of a skull!).

Cheers mate! really need to do some painting tonight however listening to some go on about kosh and crap for 7hrs has kinda drained me :( damn I hate inductions!
Now I just need to figure out how I can make this list up to 2k, another stormraven is very tempting, just a shame I can't fit in another dreadnought, would look so epic have a normal one (with forgeworld torso) and the venerable together!

I like that marble-looking affect you have on the Dread's CCWs and the sanguinary's power fist! Good to see that you're still workin at it.

Cheers mate, yeah certainly still working at it but I started a job as a support worker a month ago so I haven't had the time I would like to spend painting. First few weeks were a killer, I have gone from getting my lazy arse at like 11-12 to 6am and doing 14hr shifts :(
Anyways I will see about getting some guard tanks done tomorrow (half day!) so I might have some more updates tomorrow night.
