Team Survivor Rules
Team Survivor (TS) is a "Survivor" variant that focuses on team play, rather than individual "Last Man Standing" play. Similar to games of "Kill Team", the objective is to have one's team become the sole surviving team on the board. Teammates will need to work together to assist their team, working to destroy enemy teams.
Stats
Individual units start with 10 Hits, and may lose effectiveness:
3+ Hits remaining = all actions allowed (basic, faction, & role);
2 Hits remaining = no role-specific special action until restored to 3+ hits (basic & faction only);
1 Hit remaining = no special actions until restored to 2+ (basic only);
0 Hits remaining = no actions until restored to 1+, almost dead
<0 Hits = removed from game.
Locations
The Board will have at least 5 Locations, depending on the number of players and factions.
Locations are in a Line, and the ends do NOT connect.
Deployment
Teams will deploy as a group into a single location, and may subsequently move to separate locations.
Some Factions will have special deployment rules or restrictions:
Scouts ( Sc) - Team starts in Reserve, Leader may select either end location to deploy into on Day 1
Infiltrate (In) - Team starts in Reserve, Leader may select any location to deploy into on Day 1
Units "In Reserve" may not take any actions until moved to a regular location.
Actions
Players may take 1 action per calendar day:
Move (M) - to any adjacent location
Attack (A) - 1 hit on any target in same location
Days start and end at midnight Zulu Time (GMT) / 5:00 pm CA / 8:00 pm NY
If a player does not take their action before 10pm GMT, their Team Leader may make a basic action (Move 1 or Attack 1) on their behalf, and this will count as their action for the day.
Roles
Each player selects a specific role, which grants them a special ability:
1 Leader (L) - may order one teammate in the same location take an extra action
Attacker (A) - may Attack one target for up to 2 Hits
Charger (C) - may Move 1, then Attack 1
Fighter (F) - may Attack 1, then Attack 1 against a *different* target
Raider (R) - may Attack 1, then Move 1
Sniper (S) - may Attack 1 to an adjacent location
Devourer (D) - may Attack 1, then restore 1 Hit to self if below 10
Healer (H) - may Move 1, then restore 1 Hit to self if below 10
Medic (M) - may restore 1 Hit to any unit below 10
Psyker (P) - may take 2 Hits to self, then Attack one target for up to 3 Hits
Blitzer (B) - may Move 2
Tank (T) - start with 15 Hits
Note that special abilities *NEVER* stack. For example, an Attacker (A2) / Charger (M1&A1) does not get a combined Charging Attack (M1&A2), just the option to use either ability by itself.
Leader
There are several possible Roles, but only one may be Leader. If the Leader dies, any player may change their Role to Leader, giving up their previous special ability. If there are no teammates in the location, Leaders only have their basic and faction abilities - ordering a teammate to take an extra action is the Leader's special ability.
Healer & Medic
Healers and Medics, along with Devourer must have at least 3 to restore hits, just like any other special ability.
Active Factions
Each player belongs to a Faction, which confers a basic Role, but denies certain other Roles:
Chaos Marines ( CSM) - All have Tank, may not select Sniper, Fighter, or Medic; Infiltrate
Space Marines ( SM) - All have Tank, may not select Healer, Devourer, or Raider; Scouts
Imperial Guard ( IG) - All have Sniper, may not select Blitzer, Charger or Raider
Victory!
When only one Team remains, they are victorious, and the game is over.

All: FYI, less than 2 hours to midnite Zulu time. CSM should hit the board, and IG (or Leader) can still take actions. If the CSM don't deploy within the next couple hours, they will be deployed into the Temple, as their default starting point.

Note: Glorious Leader has deemed it overpowered for me to appear as an Inquisitor in a simple IG strike team, which I agree with. Therefore I'm now a Commissar, but still with the Medic role.
Also the Sniper ability that all IG allows me to attack someone in a different area? Would that mean that I'm able to attack anyone in the CSM team or just the bottom one?

The dull thud of a heavy bolter erupted from the crumbling tower, send the Imperial Guard scurrying for cover. Thankfully, the denziens of chaos had their attention elsewhere. Sgt. Kortov gave a quick glance at the overgrown plaza. Plenty of rubble to hide in, and provided a clear shot towards the tower. "Set up here, switch to long las if you have 'em, we'll give these scum a blast up their behind. Jones, help me calibrate the, quick smart lad!"

Bon had rushed to the Tower to kill him some enemies early, and as a bullet lodged itself in his arm he realised he'd have to kill faster.
He turns to the Plaza with a Long-Las, letting forth a burst at Stg Kortov... a revenge shot for that bullet.

Hohenhiem was getting ready to fire at the enemy as a return shot hit Kortov. As he wasn't ready to fire at the time, Hohenhiem considered quickly patch up Kortov's new wound. This battle would be long and everyone needed to be at their best if they stood a chance against the Marines. Instead he opted to take a shot at the enemy anyway. Looking over to where the shot seemed to have come from he returned fire. Moving through cover, Bro Hein wishes he could storm that damned tower as a templar should. Instead he had to 'dance' around these
awfully bad aimed shots. Finally reaching the lower levels entrance, bro Hein decides to 'knock' with a grenade....
A nice explosion later, his way into the tower was unbarred and he rushed upstairs.
Level after level of dark, empty rooms and lots of useless debris He came to a skidding halt as he entered a floor with some signs of
recent tresspassers. ' why must sneak in like a thief' he thought, these CSM should be met head on. 'And they must be deaf,
didn't react to my knockin....'
Moving cautiously forward, he heard some cracked voices in an room right ahead.
I don't have time to 'debate' he remembered SGT neinhalts orders.
Wasting no more time yet, bro Hein runs to the reinforced door and places another grenade, but this one timed to give him a few secs.
Leaving the floor through a ruined room on the left he clambers outside and counts. Praising the weapons master for this piece of
destruction, he jumps into the room on the right, crashin down a half hinged window and rolling behind some splintered desks and shelfs.
Taking a quick glance, he smiles.
The traitors are distracted now.
Speeding up around the desks, bro Hein uses pile of books to gain heigth and catch the servoskull hanging motionless there.
Diving back into cover, the returning CSM show a bit more effort in their audio systems and begin to search the room.
'Can't get cornered here, mission and all that',spotting another door he starts to run.
The traitors act fast, but maybe still to slow or again the emperor protecting him?
No matter how, bro Hein draws his own boltpistols and returns fire whilst running
He realizes too late that he didn't consider the door locked but funnily its open. Crossing the next room and the next, with traitors chasing him ( should it not be the other way round?) his luck seemed to be endless as he found a ladder and climbed upwards.
Heaving his bulk through a security hatch, bro Hein laughed at these warp-tainted creatures and closed the hatch.
Locking it,the barrier would allow him to inspect the skull and maybe activate it too.

Brother Brutus twisted his chainsword deeper into his opponent's underarm joint so that the traitor's aim went wild, blasting chunks out of the ramparts the size of small boulders. Through golden fangs worked over the vox-grill of its shining black helm, the Chaos Marine howled more in anger than pain. It headbutted Brutus and jerked its arm upwards before ramming the massive, spiked pauldron of its unwounded side into Brutus's chest. "It won't be that easy," the traitor hissed as it leaned in closer. Brutus felt the teeth of his chainsword snag on ceramite. Good move, Brutus silently admitted. He revved the blade and pulled but it was already stuck. Snarling, he returned the Chaos Marine's headbut before planting one armored boot squarely on his opponent's blasphemously ornate breastplate. But not good enough. With an explosive shout, Brutus kicked the traitor off of his sword. The Chaos Marine was knocked back several paces but did not fall. Black blood spurted from its wound and then stanched abruptly. Whether this was because the Emperor-given blood of Primarchs still flowed potent in its corrupted veins or because of some foul Warp sorcery, Brother Brutus did not know. Jones rushes to over to Swank, who is still clutching his head, his nose bleeding profusely. The Chaos Marine that had barged in so boldly was now crumpled with it's back to a fallen pillar. Kortov wasn't sure if it was still breathing. At any rate, it wasn't a threat. Sgt. Kortov decided to have Hohenheim help Jones while he watched over them, keeping a watchful eye out for the other one that had taken cover in the rubble somewhere.
Jones heals Swank +1 and Kortov orders Hohenhiem to heal Swank +1, bringing him up to eight.

@Drk_O: Huh? Used a Raider move to move then attack? That would be a Charger move. I think you can order him to move to the Tower but he'll have to attack me on his own turn. Brutus is currently at 14 HP. Next person to take a turn, please fix. Unless it's Nightwatch and he attacks me. @the_f: You're down to one so you can either move or attack. I dunno if activating the BL is a "special action" or not. If it isn't then you can do it on your next turn. If those sharp-eyed Guardsmen don't gun your down first. Nice try, traitors!

Skrott is at 0, and effectively dead unless IG intend to Medic him, because SMs won't Medic him... Of course, if an IG Snipers the coup de grace, then that tidies things nicely.

Kortov stumbled around for a few seconds. The world was a daze, falling dust coating him in a thine grey fillament, giving him the appearance of a ghost. He and the Psyker had been scurrying for cover when it happened. Swank had been caught in the open, torn to pieces in an instant. A bolter round had detonated on the side of a pillar not two feet from Kortov's face. It was now a bloody ruin. He paused, still reeling from the shocking pain as the shrapnel twisted in his skin, a mountsrous figure loomed in the shadow, still zealously hacking at Swank's long dead corpse. It turn to him, screaming inchorent oaths made in rage and stepped towards him. Jones fired a burst of lasfire from behind a pillar, hitting the superhuman figure across the brow. Kortov fumbled for his own laspitol as the Space Marine came closer.

Kortov crawled up the temple stairs, one at a time, his ruined leg a dead weight. Jones had given him a pain-stimm, which had managed to bring the unbearable agony down to a dull, dead ache. Bararthrum listened to the voices floating around the Temple, they spoke of different things. One had an absurd recipie for cake, another had a story. He sifted through them until he found the voice he was looking for. It wasn't a voice in particular, more of a snarl or a roar, but it was exactly what Barathrum had come to the temple for. if you'd look at the Order of their Move ( which is à basic function),
you would see that both NPC moved before my PC.
As we SM correctly played:
- PC is there = possible to have NPC Act
- no PC there = NPC cannot act until à PC goes there
- Orders are the ability of Leaders ( double a Move ), moving a NPC isn't the Same
as an Order from a leader. Any PC may "use" a NPC and therefore make him move.
I would rather doubt your Move of Jones, as no PC was around when he moved.

From the beginning, Hein is 1hadhq's PC, and can move Hein however he likes, whenever he likes. Krieger is temporarily a NPC because I've been on vacation.
Krieger Moved 1, and Hein Moved 1; no Leader's Order is required for this. Simply need at least 1 teammate there to have the NPC move.

This is something of a problem, because there was no PC with Jones, and Jones isn't a Monster with an AI routine. As I read the thread, Thursday was fine - the IG abandoned Jones... On Friday, based on precedent of always having a PC present, Jones should have stayed to hang out with the SMs.
I accept the blame here in not completely ironing out the NPC rules, specifically the case in which there isn't a PC present.
I'm willing to add:
if a PC isn't present, the NPC must Move toward the closest PC where possible.
This preserves the game state, and penalizes people from abandoning their NPCs to the twists of fate...

Correct that Brutus is Manchu's PC, and Hein not being Leader, Manchu moves him.
It's only Game 1, and the NPC rules weren't complete, kind of a "last minute" addition. I'm sorry that I wasn't clearer about the NPC rules. This was my fault for kinda rushing the NPCs into the game.

Jones was originally supposed to be a PC, before I_S bowed out, and I converted Jones to a NPC. I'll update that when I get a chance.
The Temple (+P/-S) is a very interesting place - everybody gains Psyker, and nobody can use Sniper. Things can get very bloody and messy very quickly in here... :nods: Note also that enemies can still Snipe *into* the Temple...

I apologise for my misunderstanding of the rules. However, I would have made sure the Hohenhiem had stayed in Jones place, and then had him retreat (via PM) so the outcome would have been the same. Won't happen again.

I'm back, and ready to take Krieger starting tomorrow (as he's moved for today - nice one!), if that's OK with 1hadhq. Looks like 1hadhq did a solid job while I was out on vacation. FWIW, Vegas was ridiculously hot. @EF: no apology needed - the rules weren't clear. As it's a fairly complex Survivor game, this kind of thing is to be expected in Game 1. Overall, I'm pretty pleased that the rules are getting a pretty solid test. recollecting his boltpistol ( as his Sgt seemed unhappy when he discarderd the damned crap ), Bro Hein runs with bolter and chainsword to the tower. Nearly flying upstairs, he finally reaches the assembly of guardsmen and a whirling machine slashing at Brutus.
As bolter ammo would be wasted at the servitor, he switched his chainsword to "cut metal" mode and charges.

Um, you can Move, but you shouldn't be able to heal: 2 Hits remaining = no role-specific special action until restored to 3+ hits (basic & faction only); Healer isn't a basic (M1 / A1) or faction (Tank) ability. Also: Healer & Medic Healers and Medics, along with Devourer must have at least 3 to restore hits, just like any other special ability. Sorry.

Wondering which marine he passed on his way to the temple, bro Hein reached the cenobyte and Brutus just to see a psychic blast from ceno. Pulling Brutus back, both marines escaped the warp based powers, but Jones wasn't soo lucky.
Assuming the wards were intact when Krieger had sent ceno forward ( why should he risk brutus with a unstable safety on ceno ? ),
he looks at jones and deems it nearly enough what already has happened to him. Nearly..., but his anger wasn't satified and the face the
guardsmen made didn't convince Hein of his innocence of what came from ceno.

Unable to move due to Brutus standing on his right hand, and Krieger standing on his left, Barathrum looked up to see the Black Templars standing above him and knew that his gambit had failed. Black blood pooled in the back of his throat and he coughed in fits and starts.

With a deft stroke, Krieger's chainsword howled once, and Barathrum's head rolled from his shoulders.
Krieger paused to pick the Rosarius from Barathrum's body as it stiffened in death.
"Brothers, it is time we left this place."
Krieger punched in a crypto-comm and a spark appeared high in the night sky.
"Maschine Geist Silberpfiel, extract from the Plaza"
Roariing flame, the StormRaven gunship reentered the atmosphere and the assault ramp opened as it hovered above the Plaza ground. The trio of Black Templars clambered aboard, followed by the Cenobyte Servitor.

Yeah, Tank has 5 "extra" hits, which allows SMs / CSMs to take an extra "hot" turn without worrying about dying immediately.
What were your big impressions about playing "normal" IG in this game?
Going in, I kinda pegged IG as the favorites to win with 2 Medics, Psyker, and NPC Attacker.

It was really the Tower that gave us a bad start. It robbed us of our bonus (by giving the SM snipe). We couldn't afford a shoot out as you had tank and we didn't. If I/we had played things smarter at an earlier point in the game things could have been different. Still a lot of fun.

That's a lot of the reason why we stormed the Tower, rather than staying at the Aeroport.
For the IG, if you had scrambled to grab your Servitor that would have been a major change.
BTW, I think you turned Traitor at about the right time - another turn of pounding the CSMs, and the BT auto-win pretty easily.

IMO, the higher intiative of the americans did count. And the regular posting wasn't a disadvantage too.
Plus, we BT didn't have to be careful with the local abilities, as those rather added boni than restricted us.
( tank = always on, charger = nowhere restricted, Attacker = nowhere restricted )
The setup of the board was fine. Blitzer seemed to go unused in this game, while psyker/fighter/attacker/medic did well.
Charger was nice to have, had expected to see a more focused retaliation but making it to the stromraven still at 10 wounds isn't bad.

That's partly true, though I didn't deliberately / consciously bias the board that way. The board was deliberately constructed to support aggressive play in the middle.
Not getting pounded harder surprised me, too. It was pretty clear from SS (and enhanced by the RPG lose ability w/ wounds) that teams should be dogpiling specific targets. Tho, to be fair to the others, we did take full advantage of having Tank to play very aggressively and take the initiative where possible. We got a little lucky when the IG turned, because things could have gone badly for us at that time.

1. what did you think about the "us vs. them" Team element? Was being on pre-set Teams a plus, or a minus?
2. what did you think about the Leader? would you play a Leader, why / why not?
3. the game finished in 25 days. Was this a good timeframe?

2. what did you think about the Leader? would you play a Leader, why / why not?
3. the game finished in 25 days. Was this a good timeframe?
The 'new' zero hour allowed me to post at breakfast....
I am not saying it was deliberately construed the board's local granted abilites as a disadvantage. But it turned out ( for me, as T/C + S from the relic ) as less influencal to the movement of Bro Hein as there was something to gain everywhere but only S to loose ( at temple).
Maybe the faction-ability should be rarely restricted and not easy to gain for other factions?
BTW, we didn't play too aggressive, BT tend to 'fall forward' when opposed and it was barely fluffy to stand and shoot that much...
We had a bit luck, but also regular players and mostly the initiative. Ini is a big factor, as the way damage works allows to reduce your
opponents options and having others playing accordingly to your plan...
I think we were cautious were neccessary but fully played ATSKNF too ( possible with reliable players, so hat off to my team mates ).
To:
1) Plus. Teams had enough members to function.
2) our leader liked to keep a distance to CC
Would not decide to play leader, maybe if there is nobody else willing to. Have enough options to order people around IRL.

Elsewhere, Manchu suggested Leader can take an action and also give an order. If I split the difference so the Leader can take a basic (M1 or A1) action, and still issue an Order, would that make the Leader role attractive enough?

1. It really depends on who's on your team, like any other team thing really. Everyone needs to be diverse in what they can do, otherwise the team is weaker in these areas.
2. I don't think I'll be the leader again, the leader needs to be more active.
3. It seems about right, not too long, not too short...
