Eldar of Altansar, Fire prisms & painted heavy weapons.  @ 2010/08/04 08:43:59

Post by: Eberious

Hello all, here I will be posting my progress on my Eldar army that I have decided to follow. After much debate between Altansar ,beil-tan and a possible DIY craftworld I was trying to get a paint scheme for, I have went with Altansar. The home world on my most favorite P-lord Maugan Ra.

I do have a few WIP's and a paint test model(nearly finished) at the moment and other stuff but thought I would start this army progress thread with the Eldar himself. First thing I have to say(to get it out the way) is that I saw this pose floating around the internet and loved it, so much that I have to copy it to a certain extent. Not to say I dont have a creative mind but the pose is so damn cool it has to be done.

So after some careful sawing with a saw thats meant for wood, I have a dismembered Ra. I'm going for the general hero shooting pose with one leg up on a chaos SM corpse. I have another Ra in case this one goes very wrong, but with the sawing being the hardest part its lookin pretty good so far.

Not much, but I like pics.

And some reposing later.

The greenstuff looks messy here, apart from the right hand grip for his weapon its actualy fairly tidy. I think as its an already painted model it looks..... well . Today will be Gst'ing a loin cloth and general tidy up of excess Gst(greenstuff).

C&C welcome.

Well finished the modeling and have started painting last night. So heres my converted Maugan Ra, I seem to be a little out of touch with my greenstuff working. The loin cloth was some what frustrating, and settled for what you see. Tried to make it more tattered than it is but could never get what I wanted it to look like. Add some Long Aerial/fin type things from the heavy support platform sprue and replaced the aiming thing at the end of the barrel. Needed somthing to make the Maugetar a little more menacing.

Let me know what you think so far.

Thanks Lexx, Finished painting Maugan Ra. Might update the pics if I can get better shots when theres day light.

Pic of blade, as cantreally see how bright it is inthe other pics.

C&C welcome

Next job, Avatar. The GW metal one.

Eldar of Altansar, Fire prisms & painted heavy weapons.  @ 2010/08/12 23:30:15

Post by: Savnock

Niiiiice repose. I especially like the fins and the replacement of the sights on the Maugetar.

Also, the paint on the blade is really good. If you're goign to do source lighting though, you should probably up the amount of reflection on the rest of the figure. Don't be shy with adding more green to the underside of the barrel, the cloth and that lower gem. Remember that this stuff is meant to be seen from 3 feet away or further, unless you're painting for a Golden Daemon. You also might want to echo the color back on the main body of the fig, to draw attention in rather than away from it (which is a problem with making the furthest extrmeity of a fig the flashiest part). If Ra's eyes had that same green glow and a little source lighting on his face, it would be extra-eerie...

But that's just a little constructive criticism. Overall, an excellent conversion and paint!

Eldar of Altansar, Fire prisms & painted heavy weapons.  @ 2010/08/13 01:10:00

Post by: Eberious

Didn't think to paint his eyes green, now that you said that will probably paint them green now. Might add a little more green light on more of him. Thanks for the constructive criticism.

Eldar of Altansar, Fire prisms & painted heavy weapons.  @ 2010/08/29 12:01:21

Post by: Eberious

Painted the eyes green, and does look better.

Decided to skip the avatar for now(modeling finished needs painted) stright to a wraithlord. Heres the base, the WL will be on top in a crouchinf pose. Much like another I saw on dakka. Will be going striking scorpions style.

An ork with a good idea to stay hidden. or is he?

Eldar of Altansar, Fire prisms & painted heavy weapons.  @ 2010/08/29 12:43:29

Post by: Llamahead

I have to say the resculpt looks far far better painted than it did unpainted. It looks a wonderful job now. I'm fairly sure the Ork is just waiting to charge the Wraithlord...........

Post by: PDH

I love Maugan Ra too. The model is just excellent... but your repose brings him right up to date. Really like the top ribs you've sculpted too. Savnock was right on the money with the green eyes. He now pops.

Really looking forward to seeing the rest of your army as it comes together.

Now just remember to mind war that Ork Nob (with powerclaw) before charging the Ork Mob. It might take a few turns but it is so much fun hacking them apart with impunity.

Hey, thanks very much for the comments all.

Few pics of the WL WIP.
(whoops, looks like I did delete the wrong ones. bugger)

The mandiblaster style guns will count as the 2 flamers. Will be making the WL with magnets so can change it for a heavy weapons role as well.

C&C welcome.

Simply awesome Maugan Ra conversion. As PDH said, it really brings the model up to date and makes a huge difference to the feel and menace of the figure!

I really can't wait to see what else you've got in store. The WL looks promising already

Post by: Eberious

Thanks very much all, haven't been up to much been busy with work and stuff.

Got the General armour work done on the upper half of the WL, I figured SS are pretty well (looks wise) armoured, and they have been fighting chaos (no doubt) while caught in the eye of terror and probably still. My bases will include other races to represent the other players armies I go up against, hence the ork.

Segmented back armour. Messy bit of greenstuff, but will dissapear once painted.

Good shot of the head flamers, fuel pipes and fuel tank thats built into the head. Sits nicely so that the head can fit as normal, will be posed anyways like in the pic to follow below.

C&C welcome, let me know what you think.

Thanks, They were a pain to get lined up correctly on each side of the head, and regarding the +1 attack, sadly not :(.

Post by: Eberious

Thanks all,

Well after some chopping managed to get the legs re-posed and the bulk of the WL stuck together. In my fun of getting it built I totaly forgot to do the segmented armour that you see on the SS lower leg and stuck the sword hand on. Will see if can get what I want on the lower legs done but managed to break off the sword hand as it has to be magnetised. Also managed to do a take a mold of the scorpion off the chest plate on Karandras.

I'm still undecided about putting the..(well I don't actulay know what they are called) but the things on the back. Probably will, what you all think yes/no/maybe??

Also acomplished one on the main things I wanted. Was to make sure it wasnt to much higher than the standard WL height, only slightly so happy with that.

Project on hold now for a while as have to get the tools for modeling in the magnets, plus more magnets. As got to magnitise 10 guns , 1 sword the two weapon mounts and the right hand. Joy.

C&C welcome as always.

I think he looks great, but my one complaint is that he looks like he's about to topple forward. If I were you, I would have his left arm bracing against the floor for some added support.

I love the idea of a Striking Scorpion Wraithlord, though. Scorpions are my favorite Aspect Warriors. Keep up the fantastic work!

Thanks Darth Bob, just realised your over on the B&C as well. Thought I recognised the name.

On topic, does look a little as if hes about to fall flat on his front. Think its more of how the pics were taken, in real life it looks more balanced.

I was going to make a joke about bog roll and such, but I've managed to restrain myself. The pose looks good but I will wait until the weapon is on to make any c&c other than that.

Kudos on the other dread as well very impressive.

Sorry just realised I called it a dread, the other WL looks fab.
I must remember that the hobby has moved on from 2nd Ed lol.

Damn thought the bog roll was hidden, erm ..yes, its for ..well you see.....yeah its for drying the end of my..paint brushes. lol

And thanks, will probably be a week or so before I get the weapons done. I thought the other WL was kinda standard/boring. I havent even finished painting it from a paint scheme I had few years back. That one will soon be a Dire avenger themed WL.

No need for apologies, I call the WL a dread every now and then as well.

Post by: Lennysmash

Please tell me that you are going to carry this aspect warrior WL theme to its conclusion, ie. one for every aspect, sweet mother I would love to see a Dark reaper WL next.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
oh and maybe not every aspect, thinking specifically Shining spears, bit tough to make a WL jetbike I'm guessing.

Eldar of Altansar, Fire prisms & painted heavy weapons.  @ 2010/09/17 00:45:48

Post by: Eberious

Cheers Lennysmash , and funny you should be so specific with the very aspect I am currently looking at doing. In the end I'm going to be very strict with my Eldar army I'm going to have 3 WL max. With my BT army I've got 14 LR, crazy!! as will never use them all, so currently making those into SW and BA raiders. Back to subject, the 3 WL's will be, this one SS, the other a Dire avenger possibly fire dragon, and the 3rd not yet bought will be dark reaper. Already started the bits search about a week and a half ago. But as said have to make sure I pick the right ones as after the 3rd I probably wont get anymore. Unless of course I win the lottery, then yeah expect an army of WL's.

Anyways, got the weapons and the right fist magnitised, and got to say really simple job, had to wait a bit to get more magnets. So update time.

Swap the sword out for right fist, add 2nd heavy weapon, and hey presto heavy weapons role.(btw I'm really chuffed as 1st time using magents).

Still to greenstuff the armour ridges on shins, shoulders and pelvic armour plate. Probably said already, forgot to do it in my haste to get the WL stuck together.DOH!

Oh, also waiting on 1mm thick plastruct tubes to arrive to get the dreads done.

C&C always welcome.

I think the back spines would look much cooler if they were flaring out towards the sides more.

Eldar of Altansar, Fire prisms & painted heavy weapons.  @ 2010/09/17 02:04:26

Post by: Eberious

@Darth bob, thanks very much, I hope I don't feth it up with the greenstuff and dreads.

@ironhide, yup should do, they are tilting inwards a little as only held in place with blu-tack for now. Just until I get the dreads modeled, helps having them there when modeling so I know what room I got to work with. But can't have them to much out to the side as the star cannon actualy rests inbetween two of the spines on the left side, well the "catalyst injection flasks" stick inbetween them.

Cheers Lt. Coldfire.

Still waiting on some plastruct tube to do the dreadlocks, been a week and starting to get a little impatient . So tonight I decided to finaly get the greenstuff ridges on the armour done. Been avoiding it as, well scared I'd feth it up, as it goes it turned out pretty good.

Will trim the greenstuff for sharper edges once it has cured.

Post by: Eberious

Thanks elfboy.

Anyways, found out why it was taking so long to get my plastruct rod, they were on holidays. So while waiting for that to arrive, seeing a Eldar Autarch vyper jet bike in GD golden deamon I had to shamelessly make one out of available parts I have. Not as refined as his/hers one but I like it. Some work still to be done, fins, greenstuff tidy up. Looks messy, probably due to re-cycled models and I ain't awesome with the sculpting.

Its basicaly a fun project, and if cant use as intended special autarch on a big jetbike with heavy weapon, then its a fancy vyper jetbike, TL pults + heavy weapon. So can use as normal, but is slightly longer than a standard vyper jetbike, so gotta watch that placeing.

Controls, display screen.. etc. Can't really see it but done a handle swap to the CWE jetbike ones. Also big ass engine made from various parts.

Built in Shuriken Pults.

Main weapon location, magnetised for obvious reasons.

Weapons, and yes its a night spinner upgrade. If my gameing group let me, other than that its looks cool with it and doesn look over sized.

Now would really like some thoughts on this as stuck between have the eldar(male/female?)riding low or seated or standing up on the bike with a power weapon(spear) in the air in true Saim-Hann style(even though its not Saim-Hann) but feel my self leaning towards that play style at the moment.

C&C welcome please.

Omg, that wrathlord is so awsome! I would love to see him have one hand around the edge of the platform, like he is actively looking for the Ork underneath. Like in Lord of the Rings, where the hobbits are under the root of the tree and the Nazgul stands above them, trying to smell them.

Eldar of Altansar, Fire prisms & painted heavy weapons.  @ 2010/09/30 16:21:48

Post by: Eberious

Thanks Timonth, did do a blu-tak test of the pose mentioned and felt it lost to much of the mighty presence, that and was quite hard to get the Wl that low and look like he could squat that far.

But yeah, in my mind that would be an awesome pose, since the Wl is of the striking scorpion aspect.

Any thoughts on the bike, anyone?

Post by: Eberious

Thanks all,

@migsula, the DE stuff has certainly intrested me in getting some purely to convert into cwe. As you say, it should fit nicely with the theme of Altansar.

Just ordered a SS exarch biting blade to make into a staff weapon for the rider of the vyper. Game wise it will give me a slight boost, using it as a SS chainsword as per codex. That is if caught in CC, which isnt somthing I'd do willingly. Got caught in CC with an similar autarch on jetbike on tuesday and got owned by basic ork boyz.

I've been following this since you started and really like what I've been seeing here. If I had plastic lords instead of metal ones, I figure my conversions would be smoother. Here's some inspiration for a Dark Reaper Lord:

Eldar of Altansar, Fire prisms & painted heavy weapons.  @ 2010/10/01 18:33:54

Post by: Eberious

Thanks both,

@Iron Angel, cheers , and thinking of a catachan green dulled down by a black wash, then a smokey black/grey colour for the main colour scheme. Then a nice deep red for the dreadlocks, dull yellow for the ridges and jewls I'm not sure on yet.

@Gavin Thorne, yeah seen that Wl floating around the interwebs, was palnning same kinda stance but have somthing in mind thjat I havent seen before. Might be that in the end it doesnt look good, but if it turns out what I've got in my head then should look fairly awesome imo anyways. And given Altansar is the homeworld of Maugan Ra and the DR aspect then and fairly effort filled conversion is required, so keep em peeled for that one. May even use the one in the back ground for it.

Rider torso, will be using DA parts mostly, mainly cause I have them in supply and and love the models.

Finished the modeling on the bike for now unless I decide to add anything further, Added in these shots are the fins and ariel at the back mounted on the engine and the targeter array on the main vyper front section.

The Wraithlord is looking awesome! I can't wait to see it all painted up.

I also really like the eyes on Maugen Ra's shoulder skulls. They look really sinister.

Eldar of Altansar, Fire prisms & painted heavy weapons.  @ 2010/10/05 18:24:23

Post by: Eberious

Thanks Grakmar, with the WL now very close to being finished painting shall comence very soon. Been fairly good, havent strayed to much with this army(yet), as usualy build lots, half paint somthing then build more. Leaving a mass of halfpainted/unpainted models.

Update: I think I'm finished modeling, unless I spot somthing tonight when I get home. But pics of the probably finished Wl, looking back that took me a while(lots of stops and starts and waiting around).

Tried to get the dreads in a swings motion as if the WL has just turned quickly to face the way its facing.

And the Vyper bike Autarch cc weapon, might be a tad big for the rider but plan on beefing up the Autarch anyways.

C&C welcome.

I was actually thinking the opposite. The DA head makes him look all call and collected, like a general should. The Banshee makes him look rather wild. That can work if that's the feel of your whole army, more piratey and less disciplined, but I prefer the DA head.

Yeah the DA head could be ok, but I don't think the banshee head looks wild it looks good on that model.

Well I'll start with I had the whole post ready to post, and I had multiple tabs open. I then close the dakka one losing the whole lot. SO that was deeply annoying and at work so can't let the out.

Okay, so its been some time since the last update and I apologise to anyone following with interest. Been deep in the midst of my Black Templar army revival and side projects WIP's. So with a local GW competition happening and deadline is 1st december I needed a mounted model. Was going to do a converted BT biker, but with inspiration lacking probably because I wanted to something else other than a SM and my planned conversion not really looking as planned, I turned to the path of the Altansar CW. Still wanting a converted model to paint and enter I'm going to use the Vyper jetbike I have. Don't see many Eldar at the shop, cabinets mostly filled with SM.

So, with the deadline approaching I'll pick this lot up where I left off. The Wraith Lord is basically completed but cannot get decent pics to do it justice, so that model will be along shortly after the jet bike is done. I've also got my test Falcon done. But again waiting for some decent lighting, as the colour scheme is fairly dark itself.

anyways, enough gabber, here's some pics. One change to the hand held weapon, I thought the scorpion sword didnt really fit the intended HQ aspect of the model. So now has a spear.

and a brand new shiny base. With me I like to make bases with the foe I usually fight against.

I plan on using a airbrush for the first time to paint it, so I'll probably paint the base first until my mate(who owns the airbrush) gets over to mine.

Thanks very much all,

Got the base painted last night, in one go. The colours are a little darker in real life than in these pics.

My camera has a problem with red, it seems to pick up a lot of the red and somehow manages to make it seem way brighter and more "plastic" looking if you know what I mean.

Excuses aside, here's the main colour scheme that will be applied to all craft and foot troops.

Trying to get a stencil of the Altansar rune cut out, thus far proving to be some what difficult. Might have to use transfers, which I really don't want to. The only other way I could see this working is to apply the masking tape to the model with the rune drawn on, then cut it out on the model. But since this will make score lines(even if careful ) I cant think of another way. I must point out that this is my first run with an airbrush and the masking tape decal application.

If anyone can suggest or link a good easy way of doing the masking tape design, please let me know.

Thanks very much both,

@ Urien_Rakarth, its either a counts as vyper or Autarch on jetbike.

So the painting competition was pretty good. First time I enetered(no prise as such) just a fun thing. The deadline came and it was a tie in votes, deadline extended 24hrs. Walked into the shop and lots of voting and still another tie. Came down to 3 guys, 2 voted one each, just to tie it again and the last voted for the ork that was there, so lost by 1 vote.

Anyways a some what of a large update here. Managed to get good light this morning at 8am to take pics. So without further rambling from me.

http://i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a559/EberiousEldar/DSC08863.jpg

In the end I free handed the Altansar rune on the front of the bike and helmet of the rider. And it just hit me that I need some under shots to show the main weapon area. At work so that will be added later.

The warithlord

and current work on the next Wraithlord. Now, the idea that I did have was to cover areas with bone, a rib cage, spine etc . I may still do the spine but the rest of the idea didn't look good at all. So here's what I have so far. Was going to use the Maugan Ra backpack part mounted on the WL back but failed to look good. Wanting to use it and have the feel carried of the CW. So I decided to make the sword into a Quandao type weapon.

Was worried that the butt end would be to heavy as its metal. But the magnet holds good.

Thanks very much both,

Been busy reviving the next lot of models with the new WL completed as well.

First up, the newest WL, all load out options are available thanks to magnets. The Quandao weapon I had to change, the metal end bit was just to heavy and while it didn't fall off the arm it swung around into the wrong place and was generally getting on my nerves. Few gaps in/on the base have come to light with these pics, so consider them filled.

2nd WL, reposed. Its the old one seen in previous pics on this thread. Again weapons magnetised, although on both the arm mounted flamers are fixed, I play against orks, why would I want anything else.

Both Wl have the dark reaper rune greenstuffed on the back.

Some Dire avengers, nothing specail really just recently stuck together.
http://i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a559/EberiousEldar/DSC08891_zpsad168e1e.jpg

A effort to revive what vypers I could find. Enough for 2 squads. Why effort, it took 2 days and a ton of searching through my house in all my older 40k stuff to find all the damn bits. I also wanted to add the WL fins look I have running throughout this army somewhere. Ended up looking best on the very top back of the gunner turret. Vyper turrets also all magnetised.

All done and ready for a new layer of paint.

Side profile to see the fin better.
http://i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a559/EberiousEldar/DSC08897_zpsbdb5bd37.jpg

Bases, not to exciting.
http://i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a559/EberiousEldar/DSC08899_zpsf4b7df59.jpg
base of note, long dead chaos SM.
http://i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a559/EberiousEldar/DSC08901_zps0e46ba1f.jpg

Also worked on some objectives markers, magnetised my metal dark reaper exarch tp swap ML for tempest. Found all bits to my fire dragons and dark reapers. Also repaired a skimmer type thing I made some time ago. All this being slowly done waiting for the fricken rain to stop so I can prime the damn things.

Quick question, I have a wave serpent in the works as well. Delayed by the fact I can't find all the bits and need to bits order in the complete turret and energy 'spines'. The questions is, with the 'spines' things on the front would you consider them not being on the model "modelling for advantage" being able to fit between tighter places or would you be happy with large gem stones acting as the energy generators. My gaming largely consists of being at home, but looking to start down the local GW group.

Ok, so progress is slow (been having lack of hobby motivation) but got some painting done over the last few weeks since the last update. Most of the following painted stuff has been this way for the last 2 weeks or so but I have a modeling project underway at the moment to get my hobby motivation flowing again. I've put the main CW colour on 2 Fire prisims, 2 Falcons, 2 vypers and 2 wraithlords. Just going to post some of it for now.

Started the wraithbone colour on this one and some of the prisim weapons. Need to get some decent brushed to complte this though as the current ones I have are frayed and hitting the finished CW colour. Which is a pain in my rear end.

Current project is a 2nd single rider vyper jetbike this time for Maugan Ra. Its more of a guilty pleasure than anything but intend to run it as a standard vyper in game unless the game allows house rules and units.

Anyways, some general shots of the first stages.

http://i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a559/EberiousEldar/DSC08915_zpsca4b9c13.jpg

I decided not to buy a finecast Ra and went to work on a old metal one, as far as chopping up metal models this size goes it was pretty easy and went exactly to plan. Which was nice. However I did get a metal blob ping off when clipping and hit right in the damn eye ball but its doesn't hurt now and cann see just fine, so yay.
The kept bits, I plan to greenstuff the torso and arm details on top of eldar body parts.
http://i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a559/EberiousEldar/DSC08929_zpsd51f96e9.jpg

Few shots of an idea of what the finished model will look like.

and an few to give an idea of how he'll sit.

http://i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a559/EberiousEldar/DSC08931_zpsbac47cfd.jpg

I plan to have him holding on with his right hand and either wielding something in his left up in the air/out to the side, or just a closed fist. Having his shurk cannon on board might a bit cumbersome so something close to the cc weapon of something haven't been able to think of anything just yet(not really been at the forefront of thought till now).

Suggestions?

c&c welcome.

Thanks both,

That colour would look great on the gem stones, but will be purple like on the other models. Mostly to tie in all units and to keep the over all themed appearance dark.

The Jetbike is coming along tp a point but kinda stuck right now as want to model the rider fully before fixing on the front half, and I need bits from a farseer to do this. Have greenstuffed ribs on Ra's model for now and soon to add a spine up his back. What I've decided to do is to make the Ra model a IC/Autarch type model then do a foot based version that could be counted as prince yriel when coming to using his stats.

CC weapon wise I was thinking of a DE incubi style blade(the one from the talos), but a Quandao weapon like the WL one.

I'll see what pics I can post tonight, but the lack of the farseer bits is starting to stall the progress. :(

Thanks rohansoldier,

Si a little update on the jetbike wip. Some greenstuffing (be it messy, nothing that a good paint job wont hide). Wanted to beef out the arms as they would be to thin otherwise, also to make it look like hes a bit more powerful and can use heavy weaponry if needed.

http://i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a559/EberiousEldar/DSC08960_zps9c12ead6.jpg

Wanted to add some extra bulk and dakka to his ride to slapped on a twin linked shur-cann. At the rear of the guns I'm focusing on a bone affect so spine and ribs from the tomb kings zombie kits are being used, just waiting on a mail order to get more bones. While not as sleek looking as Eldar bikes I think it works.

http://i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a559/EberiousEldar/DSC08965_zps23bbd060.jpg

A quick mock up of what this thing will look like. The standard Vyper wings will be removed. Simply stuck the other ones on there while modeling so I can see how it will look as it progresses. Want to do the wing swap last as with the last one of these Ibuilt the wings kept getting in the way and breaking off.

Thanks Urien_Rakarth, the rainbow is coming soon. Was my birthday last weekend so splashed out the cash on some aspect warriors..metal ones at that . Did always mean to buy aspect warriors(have a box full of 2nd ed models, but wanted an upgrade in sculpt) when they were metal but was in the midst of my Black templar army revival. So missed out on them, and now all finecast. I hate finecast, bought the farseer and warlock box about 2 weeks ago and parts missing and broken(thick parts broken not the thin bits somehow?) anyways went right back down to the GW 5 min walk away and returned said box, I now have a farseer and 6 warlocks. I see a jetbike seer council on the horizon.

However a number of ebay listings came up and managed to get metal figures(new and out box but untouched). For me this was a missed chance giving me a 2nd go, so I jumped on them. I wasn't to worried what worked well or not in game as I'm a collector and gamer.

Managed to scoop

pack of fire dragons
pack of Dark reapers
2 packs of scorpions
pack of Banshees ( I think it was more of a impulse caught in the moment bid) , might get rebuffed in the new dex,..maybe.
2 packs of rangers
farseer
and a vyper.

The aspect warriors will be painted as per aspect colours but slightly darker than the normal GW look. Will still have a touch of Altansar in some shape, but will remain colourful.

A some what extended response I know.

Anyways, update time. The High Autarch's Vyper jetbike is almost done. Only a few little htings to do like greenstuff tidy up, filling in some gaps and getting the Quandao style or executioner weapon arm modeled. So a few things but wanted to share for anyone following this project.

size comparason to vyper
http://i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a559/EberiousEldar/DSC08991_zpse3b89f19.jpg

Weapon load:
Twin linked shuriken cannon
Twin linked reaper launcher
Changeable main weapon as per Vyper options.

Executioner, stats as per prince Yriel's spear. In fact the IC riding this machine follows Yriel's stats and abilities. There will be a foot version of him as well to follow, just when I can find another dark eldar talos blade.

Thanks Urien_Rakarth,

Managed to get some more time to myself today and hopefully tomorrow. So just posting little bits of progress. Managed to prime and base coat red 4 Vypers, top section of a falcon hull(and some modeling, resin bending), 3 war walkers and the vyper jetbike above. Not bad not bad considering somethings wrong with the nozzle of the air brush and took for ever to spray. Cant find any clogs all seems to be clean, so I'm a little confused!!

Base for my next WraithLord, in two minds to greenstuff some ragged clothes on the skeleton or just leave as is.

Going with a theme for this Wraithlord, so had to give a weapon to match.

And a sneek peak at whats coming.

Not modelling directly, but got around to decorating some cookies with my oldest child. They were meant for Easter, but meh! cookies are cookies.

Never used the hedges or anything like it before on my bases. Want to try and move a little away from my usual gray scorched ground and include some of what you would find in more "green" areas of a Imperial city.

The 2 tubes will be pillars with some sort of imperial-ish statue on top. I might cut the front pillar down to be badly damaged, so not to take up so much of the front view/focus. Hoping to find a COD street light to put on the back hedge around the middle. Search of the house is coming up short for far.

Would like some c&c on that, and if anyone has used them(the hedge type of stuff) with good outcomes.

Thanks both.

@Darth Bob, couldn't agree more with the base comment.

As many, I don't really like the top fins on this model, didn't want to use them here(maybe on something else). To bumpy, flat and not very Eldar elegant if you get me. So I took to the plasticard, a few idea sketches later and ended up with what you see. To get the right thickness I had to double up the sheets, so needed 4 of the same shape. Glued together and trimmed, scraped and filed into the finished parts. Turned out pretty good giving this is the first time making a part of this shape and size for Eldar. Yet to add gemstones and the like.

The one thing I only thought about once I had the kit home was the complete lack of ribbons, banners etc etc, like with the wraithlord and now wraith guard kits you get some. Anyone else thought that? I can get and have some some, but none specifically for the WK. Seems wierd to me, but whatever. not a huge issue.

C&C welcome.

Outstanding conversion work. In my 24 years in the hobby, I've never seen anyone use Maugan Ra as the basis for a jetbike/vyper rider. Very, very cool looking.

My favorites, however, are your Wraithlord conversions. Those are simply fantastic. The pose is awesome, but the 'hair' on the Scorpion WL really completes the model.

Fantastic blog. Definitely will be checking back.

The new fins for the wraithknight definitely look better than the stock model. Now if only you could enlarge the head somehow, then it would be perfect.

Thanks very much for the kind comments guys.

Managed to break the fins off the other day, thought I'd get away with not pinning them ...I didn't. Took the time to do it right this time, also done molds of some of the gems off the GW stock fins and large gem off the WK sword. Back on now and pinned in place and looking good. At work just now so will post pics later.

The head while awkward looking online, I find is actually a good size when you have the model in front of you. I think GW done it just right.

Done most of the magnet work last night. Currently deciding to magnetise the torso section to make it break down into smaller parts for travel, or just glue it in place. Probably end up glueing in place. Should have most of it done by tonight, so probably pics later.

Ok, so managed to get some actual painting done on some older models. Trying to get some focus on getting half painted models 100% finished. In an attempt to do this I managed to get a load on the main red/black colour scheme done over the last 2 weeks. I did it one day but updates as you can see are in frequent at times.

Just a few areas to wash and highlight, the pilot and canopy to paint, also the base and I'll have actually finished it.

Thanks very much for the kind comments both. Most of the army is painted as far as the primary colours go, so updates should be more regular. I wouldn't know about second to none BlessMyBeard, but certainly boosts the ego, lol.

Progress is a tad slow at the moment, on a awkward shift at work this week which pretty much rules out air brushing work due to the compressor. Kids off to bed when I get in so to loud to have running. Don't want to use a brush for the most part the Altansar CW rune. However I managed this morning quickly(literally 10 minutes ago) to test out the 4th stencil I cut out on a old test Falcon for this army.

Side ones a little faint, but its just to get an idea. When I have plenty of time the stencil will be held in place and lined up nicely. The locations I have in mind for most of the tanks are (from the pilots point of view) forward left wing and on the right behind the jet intake as in the pic above. I'll either hand paint the little wiggly line above the top triangle or might just leave it off.

Looking at the results and the stencil, looks like I'll have to make the single line up the middle a little longer to almost touch the top triangle square part.

Eldar of Altansar, Fire prisms & painted heavy weapons.  @ 2013/07/21 12:25:32

Post by: Eberious

I think I've finished this one now. So it took a while to get the courage to paint the Altansar runes on, and about 20+ attempts to get the wiggly bit at the top of the rune just right. Gonna leave it at that just in case something... 'runes' it (well I thought it was funny). I'll probably see something that got over looked, but for now here it is.

C&C please, I love it, but want to know what others think. More of something?, just right?

Nicely painted. I like the glow in the end of the gun and the gems are done well.
And good job on the runes, very neat.

Only thing I can see an issue with is the grooves in the engine intakes could be darker to make them look more like holes in a vent, but that's me.

Finished these just at the start of the weekend. Found a Eldar "alphabet" letter translation thingy. If its correct or not, I don't know. But it'll be the lettering I'll be using. I was going to write just plain english lettering, but I'm sure you would agree that wouldn't look quite right.

Also done a production line thing here with a pile of magnetised heavy weapons. Have more but was enough for run one. Bare wraithbone with purple gems. CC weapons will have red gems, just to mix it up and give those weapons an "insert appropriate word I'm looking for here" of hunger for blood.

The WL hands aren't finished. Will be the black and red colour scheme when done.

C&C welcome.

Next up will be 3 war walkers.
