The following took place between 5 PM and 6 PM on the 203rd year of the Great Crusade on the moon of Davin.
Deep rotten voice: Build me a titan worthy of my garden
Horus: What? How? Who are you?
Deep rotten voice: I am the creator of you... well not quite... uhmm, the creator of your new improved self
Horus: Huh?
Deep rotten voice: Never mind... Build me a titan worthy of my garden
Horus: You said that already... How am I supposted to do that? And who the f... are you?
Deep rotten voice: I am the creator of you...
Horus: Shut up!
After that Horus collpses and falls into a nice cosy coma until the Sons of Horus finds him and... well you know the rest.

The following took place between 8 AM and 9 AM 5569763.M31
Deep rotten voice: Is my titan ready yet?
Horus: Darn, I hoped you had forgotten all about that
Deep rotten voice: WHAT!?
Horus: Ehh, nothing... its not quite ready yet, we are striving for perfection. Everything needs to be perfect you see
Deep rotten voice: perfect? NOOO!!... Have you been talking to Slaanesh?!? It shall be worthy of my garden, I dont what anything perfect!
Horus: Ohh,,.. You have to be more specific in your request next time. Now we have to redo major systems and critical parts, sigh
Deep rotten voice: Ohh.... sorry about that. When can it be ready?
Horus: Well I dont know. I have to talk to the project manager, he has to call for a design meeting with all the sub-project managers and they have to speak to their system responsible and so on... Redo all project plans, sync all delivery plans between the sub-projects, plan new system reviews, have a new kick-off on all sub-levels in the projects. You see, I cant possible answer that right now.
Deep rotten voice: Ohh, I had no idea that this would be so complicated. Come back to me whan all that is ready.
Horus: Ok.
Tech-priest of the Dark Mechanicum: Yes?
Horus: You have a major problem
Tech-priest of the Dark Mechanicum: I do?
Horus: Yes
Tech-priest of the Dark Mechanicum: Really?
Horus: Yes
Tech-priest of the Dark Mechanicum: How did that happen?
Horus: Its a long story
Tech-priest of the Dark Mechanicum: and?
Horus: Build me a Titan
Tech-priest of the Dark Mechanicum: What?
Horus: Build me a T I T A N
Tech-priest of the Dark Mechanicum: yes I heard that but how am I suppost to do that?
Horus: I dont know, you are the techie, not me. We need to show progress tomorrow
Tech-priest of the Dark Mechanicum: WHAT!?! I just graduated from school, I dont know anything about building a titan
Horus: Pretty please... I give you some beer
Tech-priest of the Dark Mechanicum: Well alright... I call some friends together from the dorm
Horus: Great, you are a life saver
Tech-priest of the Dark Mechanicum: Cool, can I get to be boss or something?
Horus: Sure, I make you head responsible
Tech-priest of the Dark Mechanicum: Groovy

So.. are you going to build a Nurgle Titan, perhaps going to show some progress tomorrow?
Also I can't imagine that being the way that Horus spoke, i'm just saying is all.

Hilarious! :-D
And everyone knows that Horus is the guy in black with the troubled breathing that says stuff like "I find your lack of faith disturbing" and "Thou shalt not pass." Not at all like your version. It's true! I saw it on TV.
I'm eagerly expecting the next update!

The following took place between 1 PM and 2 PM 5248821.M31
Horus: Report the progress
Tech-priest of the Dark Mechanicum: Well... We started up with a brainstorm meeting and we all agreed that we should go for something new. We
began to plan all activities and started up a fully agile development. System work, test plans, engineering documenters and specifications. We
then invited a representatives from Legio Mortis to review all the work.
Horus: Yes, and?
Tech-priest of the Dark Mechanicum: Well, the legio did not approve of new creative thinking so they terminated the project
Horus: Terminated? Perhaps I can find new ways to motivate them
Tech-priest of the Dark Mechanicum: Yea , literary. They executed all that was present at the review meeting and then wiped the planet clean
from life to ensure that none of these ideas ever re-appeared.
Horus: So we are back to zero? I want that titan, not excuses
Tech-priest of the Dark Mechanicum: Not entirely...
Horus: So?
Tech-priest of the Dark Mechanicum: The Death Guard managed to capture a Forge World last week and we started up the production of a Reaver
Titan
Horus: Impressive... But we can’t present a Loyalist Titan to the God of Decay...
Tech-priest of the Dark Mechanicum: Well, we will only use the basic construction and then add all the details we want after
Horus: So, what do we have to show right now?
Tech-priest of the Dark Mechanicum: A foot, well at least parts for the foot. Lets mock them up for you so you can see how it will look like
when assembled, it needs some more gap filling before assembly
Horus: Impressive. Most impressive. Now make haste continue the assembly or I will make you part of the titan
Tech-priest of the Dark Mechanicum: What? Why threats? You where nice last time we spoke
Horus: I am altering the deal. Pray I don't alter it any further

Tech-priest of the Dark Mechanicum: Already back, welcome
Horus: You may dispense with the pleasantries techie, I am here to put you back on schedule
Tech-priest of the Dark Mechanicum: Ohh, After your last moral improving speech, we simply stepped up the phase in the assembly work. The foot
is now complete
Horus: All gaps filled?
Tech-priest of the Dark Mechanicum: Well, the assembly is complete, the gap filling is still left to do. Now when the foot is assembled we can
focus on the gaps that show. Hope this is to the Legio Mortis liking, I am pretty shaked up after that planet wiping thingy they did...
Horus: The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the God of Decay, if we don’t pull this off

Tech-priest of the Dark Mechanicum: Well sir, we have really done some progress now
Horus: Well I see, its stands sort of. What the hell is that black ribbon on the hips?
Tech-priest of the Dark Mechanicum: Its tape sir
Horus: Tape?
Tech-priest of the Dark Mechanicum: Its Heretic tape
Horus: ohh, good
Tech-priest of the Dark Mechanicum: There are still much to do, the side and back armour for the toes, knee pads, hip armour. Lots of trimming and sanding, gap filling and so on.
Horus: When can we some more building?
Tech-priest of the Dark Mechanicum: Well, its will be some time, lots of things to do before we can continue. Lucky because the appointed commander accidently left the plans inside of the toes, and its now welded shut.
Horus: Commander, tear this toe apart until you find those plans!

Tech-priest of the Dark Mechanicum: What is thy bidding, my master
Horus: Prgress report,please
Tech-priest of the Dark Mechanicum: Well we finished most of the gapfilling job and proceded with the knee pads and toe shield. We also added the rims.
Horus: Heel?
Tech-priest of the Dark Mechanicum: No knee
Horus: I see you have done the heel aswell
Tech-priest of the Dark Mechanicum: Yea, we lack the back toe shield otherwise the foot is more or less complete
Horus: Shields, good its unwise to lower your defenses. The rims look quite rought
Tech-priest of the Dark Mechanicum: Sir, the titan has no wheels
Horus: No I mean the rims on the shields
Tech-priest of the Dark Mechanicum: Well, we have a lot of gap filling to do there aswell
Horus: Very well, carry on

Weird you say, I would say out of controll : ) Its getting harder and harder to find new darth vader qoutes to insert... : )
I am quite happy with the result so far. I have put a lot of time to fill all gaps and get all surfaces smooth. Kind of weird to put so much time in getting all surfaces smooth when I know what will happen to it when I insert it to the Warp and starting to nurglyfying it : )

Torso have been assembled, lots of gap filling and sanding to do now. Head is started, you can see it in the botton left corner. Its the upper part of the head, need to do a lower part and neck before I attach it.

Thanks for the feedback once again. I did some thinking last night and after searching the intewebs quite a lot today I had no luck cracking this nut. So I turn to the Dakka people for help.
1. What does a void shield look like? I plan to magnetize 4 on the hull, in order to keep track of them during battle.
2. Any ideas on structure point markers? It would be nice to have six of those aswell.

Post by: SilverMK2
For some reason I can't actually get the image anywhere other than the first picture here (the blue and gold titan shoulders with silver round cogs on top)... Those void shield generators look kind of cool. Structure points could perhaps be campaign studs on the cockpit or something?

Good catch, I saw that picture when I was searching but I was probably to tired to realize that it was what I where looking for. Any ideas what he/she used as the shileds? They do not look like a scratch built.
Good idea with the studs. Thanks. Anyone else have anymore ideas? Always nice to have a couple of ideas to choose from : )

The feets and torso are from that template, the rest; leg shielding, knee shields, waist shields, hip, waist, shoulders and all remainig work, like carapace, arms, most of the head, etc... will be scratch built. There is no need to invent all parts yourself, its hard enought as it is : )
Edit: Here it is:
A basic design. No details in the template.

Soo, no fluff this time either.... I am getting lazy on that part....
Head and shoulders ready... No detalils yet, I am doing the main construction first, then smaller details and last the "nurglification"
I ordered a cheap-ass laser blaster from e-bay... hope the proportions match...
The moment I have dreaded for has arrived... its time for the main carapace..... will be a tricky one....
The base has arrived aswell as you can see.
I have some sanding to do on the exhaust ports when the GS is cured. The back-toe shields need some repositioning.

Very nice. It may be the lack of guns at this stage, but it almost looks as though the legs are on backwards (the 2nd picture especially) - looks like it should be walking the other way
However, excellent work - very clean excecution of construction once again.

Post by: Artsoldier35
The build looks awesome. But the position makes it look off balance. Almost like it's falling backwards. Maybe a more pronounced bend in the knee or a lsight forward rotation in the hips area would help this.

may i ask how you managed to bend the plastic card (on the leg armour ) ?

Post by: a94marbo
I made a rectagular tube that I glued circular profiles onto. Then I simply bent the plasticard around the circular shapes and glued it into place.
From now on I will only take pictures on the front and back : ) That is until the legs is in the correct position....

This build is going very well, I am extremely impressed by the consistent excellent quality of parts being made for each area. Overall the form is very strong and very striking.
I agree about the pose: something with this amount of detail and form needs to have a really strong pose as well, but just like you said: I advise holding off handling that until the arms/weapons are in place as they will inform how the finished piece will look.
I see this project as being on of the best titans around. I'm really into this thread.

I must say, this is my favourite mars pattern reaver scratch build! The level of craftsmanship is amazing, and the execution of the round armour plates are so freekin' delicious
This is most definitely high class work, now I just have to find a way to convince you not to go nurgle on this beauty :p No but seriously, what is the plan for the paint job ?? I find the all mould green nurgle look a bit too much on such a large model, as it never looks convincing enough as the amount of green swallows up the rot and decay, so I'd go for a scheme like legio mortis or a similar dark one to underline that it's basically evil and then go all in on the blistered and battered paintwork and have ooze running out of joints and gaps and boyles, lots of rust, mould and corrosion and some dark bronze/ gold details with verdigris to capture the old look and underline it's allegiance to nurgle in a more modern scifi way instead of the cheasy 80's cartoonish green way I really think an awesometastic gorgeoulicious model like this needs that kind of special attention
Anyway consider me a huge fan of your work and subscribed

About the paintjob.
I have 2 options that I still havent decided yet.
1. Pre-heresy Death Guard white scheme with some flesh details and big Nurgle sculp on the main armour. Bronze/steel rims and lots of rust. Ordered a bunch of weathering powder from FW.
2. Metallics. Steel, steel steel, rust, rust and bronze rims and lots of flesh starting to grow on it. I have lots of zombies that can be added as daemonic possession and a bucket of spawn bits as well.
I already have the land raider death guard doors from FW that I will integrate in the groin shields.
The big Nurgle sculpt on the main armour will be this one:

Looks pretty cool to me. Perhaps turn it into almost a portal to the warp, with daemons and such trying to force themselves through? Also, the death guard colours sound better. Metalic titans don't really do it for me on titans

Option 1 sounds good to me for main color but the possession sounds cool too.
So option 3: Pre-heresy Death Guard white scheme with lots of flesh starting to grow on it. Using the zombies and a bucket of spawn bits as well for daemonic possession.
Also SilverMK2's idea for the main icon sounds great.

Thanks all for input and feedback... Nice idea with the symbol. I am leaning on the pre-heresy white scheme.
No resin casting... just plasticard and lots of milliput. Thinking of getting the real FW weapons... starting to get tired of "plasticarding", wanna get to get details and sculpting soon....

Long time since last update. The main build is now complete.... almost... I need to order the last two weapons from FW and make the back mounting for the carapace mounted gun.
The front groin shileld fell off after the front picture, thats why it looks a bit funny on the rest of the pics.
Next step is to make all finer details, like rivets, symbols, nuts, fans and other mechanical details. After the that its "nurgle time", but I guess that will be at least 6 months before I reach that stage.
I tried to fix the legs, but I didnt manage to fix it completly. In order to re-position the completly I have to destroy the models upper legs and hip, and that is nothing I am prepared to do.

Looking really good - maybe hear what others have to say as well about the stance, but here's something to consider: You've got one of the hottest looking scratchbuilds going, this is a handsome piece of work so far. As things progress you may re-visit the idea of adjusting the legs to really give it the 'oomph!' that it deserves. Just a thought.
The weapon in place there is really good, very much fits in with the design. I can't wait for the Nurgling to start!

jetjetex wrote:are you buying the forge world chaos reaver titan fist?cause i think that would look nice on it.
Thanks for the feedback all.
I was thinking if that, but the fist is not that good in the game. I need other titans/super heavies to attack with it, and in my gaming group I dont forsee any titans or other super heavies for some time. The guns that I will buy is the gatling blaster arm and the plasma blast gun for the carapace.
I might be able to bend the right knee back a bit. I would have to cut off the lower leg below the knee and reposition it without having to damage too much. My first idea was to rotate the leg around the hip joint in order to get the entire leg backwards.

You could try just tilting the knee shield/plate/thing back as far as it will go? that may give it an improved look without upsetting all the work you have done?

Tilt the kneepad like this?

Post by: SilverMK2
Have to say it looks a lot more balanced now than it did. I think I agree with tilting the knee pad backwards a bit (perhaps try rotating it in a graphics program before cutting it off the model first ) - it may well make the leg more dynamically posed.
Otherwise outstanding work as usual.

Post by: Savnock
Ditto Ambull's remarks, both on the hotness of the build (really ace work here, man) and on the legs being slightly off. Honestly, it's not the stepping foot that needs adjust but the supporting one (which holds the weight). If you rotated it back at the hip a bit (not enough to require repositioning the toes, even), you would have a good forward-striding pose. As-is the legs are a little too far forwards, making the weight-support seem artificial.
But even if you _didn't_ fix that, this would be amazing. You could just finish it and ignore the slightly odd pose, or even find a way to bulk out the base to draw the eye away from it or explain it (like a crushed building beneath the feet).

About the curved shapes. It involves 1mm plasticard sheets, boiling water, burn marks, bending and gluing multple plasticard sheets together in order to get the shapes.
I have used 3 layers of plasticard. First I cut out the basic shape, dip the piece in boiling water for a few seconds. Bending and holding under cold water in order to make the piece stay bent (here is where the burn marks comes). If the first piece dont have exactly the shape you want, you can fix it when you glue the second piece to the first one since when the glue sets it will force both pieces stay exactly the way you want it to be. I used super glue so timing is very important, you only have like 2 seconds to bend the two pieces the way you want it and hold then together before it sets. The third piece is only used to make the piece thicker.
Thats about it, some pieces goes to the trash bin, but after a while you learn. The biggest drawback is the fumes from the super glue when you glue large shapes togther since you need to cover the whole area of the piece, so a well ventilated room is prefered, preferbly with forced ventilation.

Well ventilated? Didn't know your TV sofa was that well ventilated.
And I still think that putting the titan in a downward slope would solve the posture issue. Do it!
And Savnock, from what I've heard, (and seen), the base'll get plenty of attention as well.
This is awesome. It almost forces me to get some baneblades just to have them blasted to cinders by this monster.

As I said, its preferable, I dont think that I am the same person after my heavy glueing sessions in the TV sofa.

That is very kind of you to say, but the current state is far from the detail level the FW Reaver has. But I am not quite ready yet thouh... : )
Any suggestions or ideas are very welcome... I have spent months with this project now and its very probable that I have become abit narrow-minded to explore new ideas.

Main build - Clean surfaces, basic construction - DONE
Mechanical details - rivets, bolts, plates, engine, pipes, chains, symbols etc... - ONGOING
Wethering - Cracks, scratches, holes, rust texture - Not started
Nurglefication - Flesh, decay, bodies - Not started

That torso is looking so exquisite. I had an idea for some markers on the titan... how about nurglings? just magnetize and you're done. Also, for the void shields, I think it could look cool to have some festering nurgle vats or something to that effect behind the knees, and a few other places, I'm sure. Sort of a magic void shield. I also found this pic, another from google: Showing another (unpainted) solution for the shield generators. The lexicanum mentions a similarity to ork KFFs. You could use that to try and mine inspiration from another angle.

Nurglings as SP markers would be a nice touch. I would really like to know what it is that he/she used as void shields in the picture. Void shields is a headache right now. I dont have any good solution for them atm. KFF is a bit orky but an antenna-like thingy that is a bit smaller and compact is option that I will explore. Thanks a lot.

lol Well its not too late to change it, it will take a couple days to do it. I need to really think hard before I start such a change becuase it might damage the stability/robustness of the model.
Regarding the weapons I think that its one of the deadliest combos you can chose for the reavers. It lacks multiple shoot like the vulcan cannon (Hvy 15), but these blasts combine destroyer hits and multiple markers, so I hope that it will work.

If you drill the barrels out, how much weight do you think that would remove from the miniature as a whole?
10092
Post by: a94marbo
ghosty wrote:If you drill the barrels out, how much weight do you think that would remove from the miniature as a whole?
Drilling the barrels only will not reduce that much weight. The back of the weapons(or maybe you call it the gunstocks) holds at least 70% of the weight of the weapon, since they are solid resin. I would estimate that the weapons as whole weighs about 500-600 grams each. So if I make the gunstocks holow that would reduce the total weight of the model by up to 500-600 grams. Thats quite alot for a hollow model built with 1-3mm plasticard.
The 2 side weapons weighs almost the same as the rest of the model.

Love the shoulder pad.
I think the knee pad just needs a bit more definition around the eye/nose sockets. At the moment they just look like the edges are rolled down - perhaps some stronger definition of the edges would help?
15358
Post by: Vitruvian XVII
0.o Awesome!!! That shoulderpad is absolutely spot-on. The knee-pad isn't bad, but the idea and execution isn't quite as good as the work on the shoulder pad.
Carry on like this and you'l be among the scratch building greats!!
16007
Post by: the damned artificer
The shoulder pad looks awesome, you should go the extra noch and ad some extra fine detail like cracks or maybe a hole or two in the forehead of the to skull as it seems kinda plain.
The knee pad is actually really cool IMO, don't know exactly what it is, but I guess the symmetry of the design reminds me of the bio-hazard logo, and the idea that nurgle iconography in the 41st millennium could be deranged from that specific logo is very appealing to me.
I can imagine how troubled you are by the whole weight issue, as I can only imagine bad things to come from all that free hanging weight, so I think it's a wise choise to hollow it out a bit
Keep it up, what you've done so far is marvellous !

Its supposed to be 3 fused skulls in a triangular shape just like other death guards symbols... you see it now? I hope so..... : ) At this zoom its really obvius that I need to clean it up. A lot of GS leftovers.

Post by: Simsum
The teeh-lines all look more like two pairs of four than one line of eight (especially the bottom skull in the above pic, but it's all three). The result is the teeth-lines look more like troll or ogre toes than teeth (I actually thought it was 3 pairs of feet attached by something unidentifiable until you said it was skulls).
The stylised eye-socket skull extrusion thingies don't look right at all. I'm not exactly sure what would fix them, but I think they need to be more prominent and I think I'd try merging them together.
Finally, I believe it would help a great deal if you gave it some depth/relief.
Anyway, what I really wanted to say was: your project is just about the coolest thing I have ever seen, and the best executed. You're crazy talented

I think the triple-skull symbol is a great concept, really great execution on the eyes. If you were to work the nose-holes a bit make them look less similar to the eye sockets I think it'd differentiate the eyes more, for those who aren't getting it right away.

Thanks.
The trick is to make something you can glue it to while you bend it. The layering is easy once you have the first layer in the correct shape. I used a template as foundation, but have modified it more and more. I am very far from the templete now. This is an example for the leg plating.

I been taking a brek from the project for awhile, but recently started again. The sculpting of nurgle stuff is coming to an end and I have started to think about painting scheme. I wanted a pre-haresy death guard white/green scheme and I decided to try it out on my Hell Talon. I did a classic salt weathing, codex grey then devlan mud, then salt, spray bleched bone, spray sepia wash, spray bleched bone, then spray skull white. After theat I brushed all the salt away and then I ended up with a very weathered white. So for so good. But I am not too sure about the green. White and metal match together quite well, but the green does not make it to pop. Any ideas? I wanna stick to the pre-heresy death guard scheme.
I am sorry for the poor quality of the pictures, the lighting was terrible in the room.

What I can see looks great, really kindof old school spaceship color. Really want to see a detailed shot now. If it was me doing this I would do some freehand insignia / numbering in a warmer colour - brick orange or red I think. But it looks like its great already - just understated

It looks good but maybe try a different green, that one looks so flat? maybe add some yellow into it for highlighting?. Glad to see the titan list with a few more green status', almost time for paint . Cant wait to see what you come up with for the base. Keep up the impressive work
16164
Post by: berglin
Great start.
I think the green is too dull and uniform. I think it needs to be lightened with some patches/areas of lighter green. I also think that the white could use some additional 'shading' from the airbrush.
17349
Post by: SilverMK2
It looks good. I have a white and green scheme for my CSM and agree with berglin that you might need some areas of lighter green to break up the otherwise dark green trim. This is my WIP landraider: While not up to your standards of painting, the lighter green works better on larger areas of white than the dark green that I use for the infantry:

Contrast colour: orange rust, always work for nurgle.
16007
Post by: the damned artificer
I'd keep the green and maybe do a thin line of dark brown or black to separate the white and green and keep them from blending in with each other. And then make some contrast in form of rust instead. you could also define the green with a rusty outline as though the rust emerges from the recess as this would separate the colours as well, like this:
Two minutes in photoshop, hope it helps to underline what I mean

Update!
I used the FW rust powders around the edges, comments?
17349
Post by: SilverMK2
Could maybe do with being darker (perhaps a sooty black?) at the very base of the trim before it goes to the rust red. It looks a bit too washed out and diffuse at the moment when compared to the un-rusted side.
16007
Post by: the damned artificer
It looks great, if you have a lighter more orange tone of weathering powder you could do some even smaller lines to make the rust un the deepest recess look more fresh/wet/still rusting. Although I don't think you necessarily need to
The green would benefit a lot from some edge highligting/ extreme highlighting for slightly more definition.

Hmm.. that line gotta be very thin. Of course you are right, the contrast will be much better. I will definetly try that, thanks. This is after all my practice-run before the titan : )

The green would benefit a lot from some edge highligting/ extreme highlighting for slightly more definition.
Thanks, I agree. I am not quite ready with the green. Its only 3 stages of highlighting yet. I will add scorpid green, bleached bone and skull white. About the orange rust, "aged rust" is the only one I have... I am thinking of doing a thin black line in the recesses and adding gloss varnish at the end. That should improve the contast and add a wet effect.

just took a look at the pic in your gallery, and when zoomed up it looks extra great. So the above comment is not a must, only a suggestion if you don't find your already quite good model defined enough

Soo, my test paint model is ready...
I will be using the same scheme for my titan.
The guy to the left is a conversion of marbo I made while waiting for the paint to dry on the test model. I will force my friend start spending points on non-gun line, non Russ-manticore-basiilsk-spam warfare and start using some "fun" models......
Main build - Clean surfaces, basic construction - DONE
Mechanical details - rivets, bolts, plates, engine, pipes, chains, symbols etc... - DONE
Wethering - Cracks, scratches, holes, rust texture - DONE
Nurglefication - Flesh, decay, bodies - DONE
Base - Details on base, war scene. The plan is to have interaction between the titan and the base. - DONE
Painting - Started

Looks great. The red is a lot better than the purple and as usual when things come together they look a lot better than when there is just weathering on the model.
I like the soot on the exhausts. Real nice. Looks dirty.
And the Marbo dude really helps in getting the scale of that flyer. It's huge.

Yea, the red was a real improvement, the soot was quite easy to make with FW weathering powders.

Lookin' good! Did you modify the purple on the pipes/hoses somehow? Looks redder in that top-shot. Perhaps treated with the same weathering powders? If it's not just the photograph or lighting or something, if you wouldn't mind a closer pic of that I'd appreciate it.
Say, are those bombs magnetized?

I repainted the hoses/tubes in red. After some feedback I re-considered my choise of purple, I now I am glad I did. The red is much better.
Yep the bombs are magnetized.
And thanks ALL for you feedback.
The titan have currently 1 basecoat of 50/40/10 mix of codex grey/Scorched earth/chaos black, salt, Bleched bone and a complete wash with sepia.
Next up is bleached bone and skull white high lights. After the skull white its time to remove all the salt. Automatically Appended Next Post: Basecoat and salt weathering done. Some more salt to remove..... its a big model : ). a bit more salt to remove compared to the Hell Talon.
Does not look very good yet, bot as soon a details being picked out, such as rims, rivets etc, it will look better...

Didn't realize that Titans needed to watch their diet (considering the literature in the background) but that's probably from eating all that salt?

You paint the base colour then wet the surface of a model and add crystals of salt. Allow it to dry and the salt should stick to the surface. Then you paint over the surface and salt. By then brushing or washing off the salt you are left with the original base colour coming through in uneven/patchy spots, as it would if the top layer of paint chipped or flaked off.

A modification that the guys from Forgeworld use is to spray the model with hairspray and attach the salt while the hairspray is still damp. Once dry, spray your new colour over the top and let that dry too. Afterwards, with a damp brush you can start wiping away the grains of salt. You can also start to remove or thin pieces of the paintwork around the sand too as the water will start to disolve the hairspray and removes the paint attached to the spray.
This is how they produce the worn dozer blades and the winter whitewash.
Aaaaaaanyway. The Titan is looking great so far. I'm trying to work out if some more chipping around the knees might look a little more effective though. How much weathering is there around the back of the knees?

The titan have kneepads, which are not mounted in that picture. The pads are quite weathered. I am currently working on all the rims on the leg-part in order to be able to glue everything into place.
I think I will have something to show in the weekend.

I really like the way that the rust helps separate out the plates in the original GD scheme. have you tried that on a smaller (infantry) scale?
Also, have you ever tried to do salt weathering on an infantry scale?
I'm just starting on a repaint of a salvaged DG force, and am considering various schemes. your take on the Heresy-era scheme has convinced me to go white and focus on weathering for character. Thanks for the inspiration!

Outstanding work mate, truly professional level attention to detail and craftsmanship. Are you sure you don't actually work for FW?
If you don't mind my asking, I am curious as to how you made those rivets? I am looking for something on one of my WIPs and can't figure out a good consistent way to do them. Also the tubing you used on the face spot on, was that self-crafted or a convenient item that worked just right?
Again phenomenal work! Inspirational enough to get me to finish my project!

It was something I found at a HW-store, around 3 feet for about $5.... I just knew that I would use some day... It a very think guitarr wire, have no idea what it is intended for.
