Hi,
I'm new to the forum and back to the hobby after a looooong time off. I've been going crazy for all the information on the internet and though I collect a SM army at the moment I still like to tinker where I can and enjoy making things my own.
So I have painted a few things recently but will wait to post unit/squad shots (still have lots to paint!) but I though I'd open my blog account with my WIP Pre-Heresy(ish) Terminator Librarian.
He is not overly custom (just a kit bash), this is what I managed to do in an hour last night but the fundamentals are there, I'm going to GS the hood to make it more round and add some guitar wire, force weapon is from a thunder hammer with two power axe blades grafted on, shoulder pads are venerable dread shin plates, torso is standard SM terminator, Legs are SW terminator with the wolf heads and pelt removed. Loincloth from the tactical squad sprue, scroll cases from the assault terminators sprue, left arm from the chaos terminator lord, spaced the arms out 0.3cm each side with some sprue plastic(needs GS'ing) storm shield from the SW terminators with iconography removed and I'm thinking of grafting a book on to it and some purity seals/tabbards. I also bought a book to make the banner/standard/icon/thingo with but it is a bit large and might look goofy, I'll see how I go with that one. Otherwise I might use the mask face from the tactical squad sprue (normally for the flamer guy), make up some small rivets for the heightened chest piece to tie it in with the chest and I saw on one of the blogs they had put some small strips of pointed plasticard under the shoulders to make it look a bit roman (looked great on his blog, will see if I can find it).
What do you think? I didn't want to go crazy with cloaks and books, more of a combat focused librarian. Total cost was $20aud so it set me back the same as if I had bought the GW one but I am a bit happier with mine. I will post progress as I get it finished. Oh the base is a bit off, I ran out of terminator ones.

And some stuff I have painted up for this Red Scorpions army, with more to come as I get the time. I just did these ones to get an idea for the colour scheme:
Aobr Dread:
Terminator w Assault Cannon (Ive since removed the trophy/teeth bit under the assault cannon):
Scout Sarge:
Automatically Appended Next Post: And the lighting/background is a bit weird on these two plus the bases have all been done to fall in to line with the dreadnought.
Jump Captain:
Tac Sarge:

Well I got a little more done on the Librarian last night, once again sorry about the silly small base but I have nothing larger at the moment. What do you think of the book? I'm not sold.. but not so sure what to do with it, it's a lot larger than I expected and had originally planned to build a bit of a shrine on the top of the torso with it, but instead it is more banner pole sized.
Automatically Appended Next Post:
The next bit i'm doing is finishing up the psychic hood and getting to work on the shield. Then I guess it's done and ready for paint.

Yeah man the new book should be great, I haven't been into it for very long but forgeworld have some really nice bits to make the armies with. I've bought Culln, the Venerable dread and a ton of the shoulder pads for terminators and marines and the quality is very high.
What would you suggest I do with the book? Maybe some thin strips of plasticard down the back to join up the rings? I think the rope looks good on the front as it's holding the pages back but it does look a bit disjointed from behind.
Thanks for the comments guys.

I've always liked that part of the Pre-Heresy Terminator armor, but have always struggled trying to make it...

Thanks man I really appreciate the feedback.
I'm not much of a master craftsman so it was a bit of a hack job. I cut a piece of plasticard just a bit longer than the lip on the opening in the torso, I then trimmed a little bit off each end until it fit properly when bent around. Once this was fitting in the gap I cut the angles for the step down. Test fitting again revealed I needed to angle the outer flat sections as well to look a bit better so I trimmed those off. Once fitted I beveled the inside edge to make it look a little less harsh and I have drilled some small holes in the front with my pin vice. I plan to finish it up with some very small rivets on the two ends and maybe 3 in the center.
I'm not much of an artist either, but here is a quick scribble I did on a post-it at work for you to help explain:

Alpharius wrote:Thanks for the sketch!

...I can guarantee I would make 20 different ones, take 20-30 slices of skin from my fingers, snap 3-5 trying to bend them to the shape and lose what little is left of my hair in the process.
If I had a good accurate way of doing it I would be happy to though, but like I said I'm a hack and pretty much everything I pull off is luck.

Excellent work there. I shall be watching your Scorpions with much interest as I'm working on mine at the moment too.
Have you seen the Red Scorpion rules in the other Forgeworld books? You get to upgrade tactical sergeants to Apothecaries and gain FNP. Way to make them even more annoying to take down
Also. Red Scoprions can come in red, if you go for the Angstrom camo scheme from the original Rogue Trader article.

Thanks man! Yeah I have seen that, still trying to gather enough Apothecary bits to kit out the squadsthough, seems they are hard to come by (I want plastic ones).

I can't wait to finish him, I made the changes to the book, added a few more details and the conversion work is done now, I want to get out 2 tac squads before I paint him though and save it as a reward for the hard work of painting 20 ordinary blokes.
These are two of the last things I painted before I quit last time, 1 of my 2 Mordheim warbands (click photo for details) and the Khorne DP (Only surviving member of my khorne army!):
I'm going to finish the warband and repair/repaint/base the DP as a break from painting marines. I still love both of these things and I'm glad they didn't get lost like most of my old stuff.

So a quick update, I've only got 3 guys done out of the squad so far but the other guys are getting the primary colours now so I shoud be able to smash them out pretty quick.
First up, Sarge, Plasma Gunner and Missile Launcher:
I thought I'd show my work area aswell, it's a huge improvement from sitting on the floor in the loungeroom for the last few weeks. The boxes up the back right have heaps of stuff in them which I will build once I have painted up the scorps. I really need to stop buying gak off ebay, I already have more than I can paint in a year...
And my table, I bashed this out over a weekend. I've got a bunch of cities of death sprues on the way and I'm planning to get a few of those sweet bastion kits and a landing pad. It's looking a bit sparse at the moment but is mostly doing the job, we're sitting at about 18% coverage right now and I need to cut some more LOS blocking terrain.

I found a carnifex going cheap on ebay a little while back and thought I'd grab it as it's such a cool looking model:
So I guess it was built up for the old codex as a gun model but I really really like the look of twin scythin talon sets, such an evil model!
I got to work on snapping the model apart, thankfully they used CA glue and it came apart very easily, only breaking one of the arms at the shoulder (but it glued back together fine). I then cut the legs off and re posed them so it was on a more aggressive angle pointing down. I twisted the body so the left side is rolled down and twisted the head back level again as if it was mid-charge. I won some trygon talons (I figured they'd be about the same size as carnifex and cost me 1/4 of the price), I also put these so the lowest side was swept back and the high side was all the way up ready to plunge into the next foe. It's such a cool model, the scuplting is awesome and so evil.
I'm still painting some marines and stopped for an hour to pose this guy, I used CA glue for the arms and base so I will snap these off again when I decide to paint him. Carnifex eating marines:
It stands a bit shorter now but is a fair bit longer, kinda has that t-rex look to it.
I might try and get a bit of an army going in the future, painting them up as a hive fleet harbinger. Check out my inspiration for that, this guys models are wicked and the scheme is a gem, probably the best I have seen to date.
Master Darksol: http://masterdarksol.blogspot.com/
I've got 7 tac marines almost done and stopped to paint the drop pod for a bit which is now 70-80% complete.

Thanks man I am flattered! I think I am getting there but certainly no phenom.
As I just said over on the old B&C Red Scorpions thread I've been grabbing the Apothecary sets from the SM's command squad on ebay when I can. The first lot rocked up on friday and I finished this guy today (Halo Reach has been crushing my free time this week, ha!), what do you think about the colours? I didn't want to go too overboard and left all the viles silver, I wanted him to look like a combat medic/sarge not a priest/fluffy-healer-apothecary. Also this makes 7 of the squad so far (with either the sarge shown of the apothecary for the leader), still got 3 more to do and getting there slowly.
Want to try and finish the other guys tomorrow, get them based and put the left shoulder transfers on so I have one completed squad for the wednesday night battles this week. I feel that my painting is getting better, looking at the medic compared to the sarge who was one of the first guy I painted getting back into it, I have managed to get the white a lot smoother now. Also the sarges head was a repaint from an old BA marine and was red before which didn't help. Painting white still sucks though!

What do you think? Cheers guys!
P.s. Can't wait for my IA:9 Book to come!

G'day Dakka, Well, I'm a fairly top level racing cyclist which keeps me very busy outside of work, this morning I think I may have blown out my right knee though after a slight MTB misshap. There was a gap then a drop on this granite slab section which put you down on the lower trail (very rocky), front wheel got caught in some lose stuff and I took about a 10' launch landing very hard on my right side and twisting my knee which didn't unclip from the bike. It was a very slow hike back out of the valley for an hour and a half using one leg and my bike as a crutch.. Ugh.. So no training for a bit but the good news is while limping around the house feeling sorry for myself I decided to get my tac squad based up and take some photographs for you guys. The natural light seems to make them look a bit blueish but they are charcoal (Adeptus Battlegrey 2: Chaos Black 1). I've also included some shots of my works in progress drop pod and vindicator (click link underneath for descriptions) and the painted portion of my army grouped together. What's the verdict? http://flickr.com/gp/prefix84/wV9567 http://flickr.com/gp/prefix84/2Qxh8x http://flickr.com/gp/prefix84/5787MP http://flickr.com/gp/prefix84/M78492 Next I'm going to clip out the rest of my army, get them glued and primed then get to work on painting up my assault squad. Cheers Jack

Did you modify the Termi Assault Cannon? Looks like the ammo box is different. Rest of it looks good, very crisp. Are you doing the blade for the vindicator so it can be added if needed?
32969
Post by: redscorps
Hey man,
Yeah I did modify the assault cannon a bit. Well not the assault cannon but the model itself, was an AoBR guy with a Space Wolf terminator Assault Cannon. It has a cool ass belt feed and big ammo box on the back, looks a 1000x more tough than the poxy normal SM one. So I got that and cut all the wolf heads off. Had to add the Chaos Marauder shoulder plate to the hand because there wasn't much left once I had chopped off he big wolf head.
Still in 2 minds about the vindi blade, I may as well, but truth be told I probably wouldn't bother running it unless I was playing a cityfight game as I can always use the 15pts elsewhere.
I glued the mounts on because I figured they'd be standard and I am sure I can stretch the seige shield on if needed.

Hey thanks, I look at your thread all the time and admire your work for the same reason, very nice and clean!
I might not be able to do the OSL/ NMM side of things yet but I try to be as neat as I can and get the best out of the washes and paints.

Easy tiger, white balance on my camera was probably set to incandecent still (indoor yellowish lights), using the natural white sunlight this afternoon turned them a bit blue. I can assure you that they are indeed Charcoal Grey with out even the slightest hint of blue in them.

I already have way more than I need and so much unpainted, as nice as the new Loth & Honour Guard is I just can't justify it, especially when I built this big badass myself: I threw a bit of paint on him this everning, I am pretty happy with how the big man is turning out so far. Going to attempt some glowing eyes and OSL on the face, bring the force weapon up from hawk turquoise to a few shades lighter as it goes out to the tips. Highlight the silver parts on the legs, Scroll cases will be red and silver, Undecided on colours for the shield(under the parchment) and the loin cloths front and rear. Opinions for me? Hey redscorps, just started the same army myself, and took the jump and got the Sevrin set. Something they don't tell you on the site, at least I never saw it (or possibly a seriously massive packing error) is that they toss in a Command Squad set with it. Probably half the reason for the £36 tag (iirc)
It's well worth it though imo, the models are beyond gorgeous in reality. To the point, that I'm scared to paint them as I'll not do them justice. Only got one or two models roughly painted, still trying to work out the grey too use, what colour are you using here? Tried plain Adeptus Battlegrey but it seems a bit bright to me, I saw someone doing Charadon Granite as well, but it looks a bit... weird.
Looking forward to more!
Edit: Just saw your grey mix at the top of the page. Mega fail on my part! Derp derp.

Wow guys thanks for the feedback!
Yeah the back door is a bit over done, I will be abit more careful with the others (I just think the top part looks a bit too mucky), I can't repaint it without it looking like a bag of ass so I will just have to deal with that as part of the first tank I have ever built/painted.
Dave and Marushi, I need that kit! I will order it probably anyway this week as it really is stellar. I didn't realise that you get a full command squad box with it, I can most certainly use all of those parts (plastic apothecary bits are like finding needles in a haystack(ebay)).
I would like to get, well... everything... Hah. I actually bought a gakload of World Eaters gear to revamp my old Khorne army so I will have picks of that at some stage.
Tonight I put togther a Razorback and most of a LRC using the resin Icons set and the LR door set. Nice detail on both of these ones (though the icons are very very thin to the point of having large gaps in some of the background areas).
Snapped a quick pic, oh yeah made a start on the first of my heavy weapon guys for the tac squad, I am swapping out the missile launcher blokes in the squads to plasma cannoneers and having a devastator squad composed of 4 M/L guys.
Once again thanks very much for all of your feedback, I wish I hadn't gone so heavy on the loading ramp of the vindicator but as I said it was the first tank I've ever painted and I had no idea how much was too much so I will just have to live and learn.
Cheers

Good evening Dakka, I haven't been up to much this week, just building actually and getting some stuff ready for gaming and painting. I built up the LRC, a HB Razorback/Rhino, the land speeder storm with a bootlegged heavy flamer (didn't have anything close and the flamestorm cannon from the LRR is almost as big as the speeder). I just cut two of the regular flamers up, put the tanks on the top and cut the grips off then spliced them on to the pivot that comes with the factory model heavy bolter. My counts as HF. Mostly just transports this week.. Transport for my 0-1 scout choice, my assault terminators(and their new Chaplain as seen in front of the raider, such a cool model) and a tac squad/combat squad. Will build another vindicator, another razorback/rhino and that is it for vehicles for a while then more painting needs to get done. Though I did see a red scorpions dude over on warseer kitbash himself a red scorpions land raider ares and I am so tempted to get the parts and build one to rumble up next to my LRC. Click it for a bigger picture:

Shoulda asked, Im pretty sure I have a spare HF for speeders.
Modeling looks good though. If you do make an Ares, remember they are Apocalypse-only. Pretty awesome looking though.

Ah true!! Yeah I forget that there is a swap/trade side to this hobby, I just tend to buy from bits sites or DIY what I need. Thanks very much though mate I really appreciate the kind offer! Speaking of DIY, I found some Cities of Death sprues on ebay going for a good price (well I didn't look around so much so now it seems it wasn't such a good price, but no big deal), snatched up 10 of them, just a mix of the random buildings. I didn't check to see if they came with floors and they didn't, so I went on to a bits site, got the floors I needed and have waited a month. No fault of the site but I think they have gotten lost in the post so I cracked today and went and bought some textured plasticard so we could get started. My buddies and I were getting a bit sick of playing around the grey hills of my board all the time so I got to work today and started building these guys. They actually take a while to put together!! I took a little inspiration from the ones on the GW hobby blog and ad libbed a bit with the other ones. The small 3 tier one is pretty much done but the manufactorum and the square one need a fair bit more work before it is paint time. It's nice to do something a bit different anyway. niece looking. only one thing why are the gun holes mostly on one side? plus the sides of the transfer are really visable on the pics. you can really see where you cut them you know the parts that should be transparent. is it just these pics or are they this in real life too?

It's picking up the light funny with the decals, it's a shame but this is even after I have put a testors dullcoat over it. I read about a product that is used for blending decals in so I will try and get some of that and see if it works. It doesn't actually bother me as 95% of the time they are never under this much light and then edges are invisible. It's just the GW Decals not playing the game for the photographs.
And as far as the bullet holes go, I imagined this tank to have been flanking up the side of the battlefield and having been ranked with bolter/shoota fire by a squad of plague marines/boyz(my two arch rivals) so it has damage on the left front 1/4, side and rear 1/4 to represent this. I think it would be pretty unusual to have bullet holes completely around and I was going for a bit of a different look with this one (using a bolter sized drill bit) as opposed to the vindicator which has taken some heavier fire (using an autocannon sized drill bit).
Thanks for the comments.
inmygravenimage wrote:Just caught up with this, and shall be following intently! Great stuff indeed. I for one love the JCB stylings of your vehicles.
Thanks mate, I'm getting there. Nothing is really planned with them but when I see the clean nice vehicle, pre-priming, it just doesn't look right. So out come the drill bits and the scalpel.

I've signed up for the From the Warp ' FTW Bloggers Group', The House of Paincakes bloggers group and the main reason for the creation of my own off Dakka Blog, the Badab Bloggers group. I am a big fan of this latest IA:9 book and the armies contained within. Is that a smear of dirt or something on the middle sternguard or is it just me?

Post by: redscorps
Thanks mate, yeah the Chap has been hacking someone up with his Crozius and made a mess of his armour.
The middle Sternguard has some fine chipping on his face as though his head has scraped along the floor at one point. I was just trying to add some variety to the helmets. Looks a lot better in life/large photographs and a lot less like a smudge.

Yeah the rhino has been peppered, the idea was that it either got hit by another vehicle strafing it with Assault Cannons blazing or it has copped massed small arms fire while flanking to redeploy marines (Hence the damage only coming from one side).

I started with them just before they announced the Badab War series was coming out and since then I know they have been growing. It helps that they are probably the most supported by Forge World of the Chapters mentioned in the Imperial Armour books.

Here's my latest thing I finished last night:
I could be happier with them, they were one of the first things I painted when I started the hobby last year and I know I can do a better job now. I needed them finished for the tournament this weekend though so I just set to applying the battle damage and wear on the models, plus the weathering pigments and OSL.
Happy enough to present them but I think in the future I will strip them down and start again using new techniques.

Cheers guys, Glad you liked the razorback. Hadn't really seen any of them I liked from memory and I had all of the spare bits to do it that way. Eggroll, the hatch game out of necessity, I made a mistake and needed to graft it together to cover up a bit of damage to the hull. Turned out alright though eh?

@nerdfest09 the thing that takes longest about making/painting a tank is gluing it all together and getting the base colours on. Once that's done, the weathering is actually quite a nice process that takes very little time to get something looking really damaged

I really felt my display board let me down as some of the other guys had incredibly elaborate displays. I know for next time I need to do more there (And objectives markers) but I had to put my time into the painting.
22687
Post by: MajorTom11
Spectacular work... normally I would call that much weathering over the top, but you've done it with such naturalistic finesse that it really, really works. Continuing it to the infantry was a critical step most people skip... Great stuff!
That display board isn't doing them justice though, need some texture variation in there, everything looks dusted, but lacks a touch of realism, this is exasperated by how realistic your tanks look in contrast lol!
32969
Post by: redscorps
Thanks MajorTom11.
I agree with you on the display board. I felt it let me down but as the army was for the most part painted in a fortnight I found myself with very very little time to do anything.
I made this and the tokens within the space of an hour and it shows. In the future though I will be making something that matches them better and allows more space between the models so they are able to be seen a lot better and not just crammed in there.
Cheers mate.

Your army shot is great! loving the look of them together, i'd love to see some shots taken with your models as they do in the forge world books as if they are in battle! would be epic dude the flying dust, shouted commands over the din of battle, bolters with the deep chattering of the emperors wrath, the fragmented silhouette of traitors being bodily launched into the air by the ironclad..... Do it now!
Speaking of the dreadnought, I bloody love it! looks fantastic with the weathering, I can see it getting stuck in right quick!

Glad you won best painted force, it's looking really nice all together like that. The board is, mostly, pretty good. I'd say some things like bits of tall grass (brush bristles) or scrub would have added a bit more to it... but at least you've now got a stunning force to build up from for next time around

Post by: sennacherib
I gotta say ... you deserved the best painted award. You did a really nice job on the weathering and i too love the pig iron scout heads. Way cool. I do agree that the display board does not even remotely sit with the level of your army. The Rocks are just too smooth and regular in appearance. I am no master crafter but i do know a thing or too. If i might without being to presumptuous...
Try mixing really fine sand with the base color paint that you are using for your rock pillars and paint that on to them. it conveys a more irregular look. Im a biologist and i spend a lot of time in the outdoors. rock would likely never weather the way that it did on those pillars. They are also shiney. Definitly this stands out against the muted color of the soil that you are depicting. It looks like you are shooting for a Mars style martian look. Try taking a gander at the photos that NASA has available on their web site for feedback ( http://www.nasaimages.org/luna/servlet/detail/nasaNAS~20~20~120897~227599:Opportunity-s-Second-Martian-Birthd?qvq=w4s:/what/Mars/Crater;q:Sun%2BOR%2BMercury%2BOR%2BVenus%2BOR%2BMars%2BOR%2BJupiter%2BOR%2BSaturn%2BOr%2BUranus%2BOR%2BNeptune%2BOR%2BPluto;lc:NVA2~25~25,NVA2~57~57,NVA2~31~31,NVA2~60~60,NVA2~33~33,NVA2~26~26,NVA2~36~36,NVA2~62~62,NVA2~56~56,NVA2~55~55,NVA2~54~54,NVA2~45~45,NVA2~35~35,NVA2~53~53,NVA2~29~29,NVA2~27~27,NVA2~17~17,NVA2~46~46,NVA2~30~30,NVA2~44~44,NVA2~16~16,NVA2~47~47,NVA2~48~48,NVA2~61~61,NVA2~19~19,NVA2~52~52,NVA2~4~4,NVA2~1~1,nasaNAS~22~22,NVA2~20~20,nasaNAS~8~8,nasaNAS~10~10,NVA2~15~15,nasaNAS~13~13,nasaNAS~5~5,NVA2~18~18,NVA2~23~23,NVA2~8~8,nasaNAS~16~16,nasaNAS~2~2,NVA2~34~34,NVA2~14~14,nasaNAS~7~7,nasaNAS~6~6,NVA2~24~24,NVA2~13~13,nasaNAS~9~9,nasaNAS~4~4,NVA2~58~58,NSVS~3~3,NVA2~9~9,nasaNAS~20~20,nasaNAS~12~12,NVA2~21~21,NVA2~22~22,NVA2~49~49,NVA2~50~50,NVA2~51~51,NVA2~28~28,NVA2~43~43,NVA2~38~38,NVA2~32~32,NVA2~37~37,NVA2~39~39,NVA2~41~41,NVA2~42~42,NVA2~59~59&mi=31&trs=3015 ) . Also... while the raised hill in the back of your display is a necessity for your display, it too suffers from the shine and the regularity. Try deepening the erosion on the sides of the little hill and adding some irregularly sized rocks here and there to break up the uniformity of it. Also... it could use the paint/sand mixture to add more deapth to the soil texture. Lastly ... get rid of the yellow blotch on the left foreward corner. it does not fit.
Beyond the harsh critique of your battle board, i really feel you have one of the best looking armies that i have seen in a while. Beautiful work. Dont let my review of your battleboard have any bearing on your overally opinion of the work that you have done. Your models are fantastic. Sincerly.... Sennacherib.

You do in all honesty have one of my favorite and well painted armies out there on the web! just the attention to detail and use of differing methods to produce a uniform and hardy force, helped by the jump of using a chapter that while is supported to a degree gave you some rope to create a feel for them that suits you as a person and gamer!

Yeah man not even close to finished. Thanks very much by the way!
I'm planning to add:
4 Tac squads with transport (~1000pts)
A second Land Raider
Custom Captain with a Command Squad
Another pair of Vindicators
My proper Ironclad chassis with these arms, then put the Ven Dread arms back on him.
3 Predators, all variants.
Some attack bikes and Land Speeder Typhoons
Plus probably a lot more. They are my chapter and I want to stick with them. They're just new to me which is why there is not a lot finished yet.
Cheers for the interest and stay tuned.

Ah, yes, well I can understand your chagrin there Jack! that's a lot of coin for rent! I pay less than that for my mortgage! and it's a beautiful double brick cottage on 666m! 3 bedrooms and now a new bathroom/kitchen/carpet! sounds like you need to move to tassie! :-) at least my game room doesn't leak! (although it's slowly being taken over by a collectors Barbie range!..hmmf!)
crappy house stuff aside, I eagerly await your model-fest with that lot! land speeders and predators especially, I NEVER see anyone giving preds much love now days! they just don't seem viable from what i can gather? I personally like them but don't have one!...yet :-) it'd be good to see one do damage and kick ass for once!
And you bet i'll be watching for that PM! :-)
Hope you're well and painting like mad!

Found your blog! I just went over to the GW website and saw your army on there. The wartorn look/weathering is fantastic. Also love the assault cannon barrels on the LR. The heated metal look is pretty damn sweet! Congratulations on the GW website mention!

Oh My lordy! I am damn near salivating at the thought of seeing what you do with that dread! it's gonna be EPIC! can't wait! (even though i almost typed Eric accidentally!) the weathering is really going to suit him, are you going to accentuate his height by keeping the powder lower on his legs? or do him as if he's been dropped into the dust bowl that is frenetic battle?
um,....more please!

Jack! wow better than I imagined it would look dude! you've managed to get such a dynamic pose and you can really lose yourself imagining him ripping up the landscape smashing asunder enemies and almost leaping to come to grips with something to kill truly a epic war machine crafted from all that is the emperors fury!
I never realised how poseable that model is! and the way you've built him looks fantastic! of course helped no end by the beautiful paint and exeptional weathering you always do! everything you lay your brush on lately just inspires and astounds me! so thanks so much for getting back into painting now I just need to wait for what's next! preds?
Have you got a weathering tute done yet? will it be up on Dakka or your blog or both? I can imagine now that we will be seeing a glut of heavily weathered and war torn models appearing around the web thanks to you my friend!
again, just astounding work Jack!

Ah cheers guys, appreciate you stopping by for a look and the feedback from the GW blog has all for the most part been super positive. It was a really good opportunity I got there!
Damo,
Yep tutorial is online, I have had a bit of a relaxed week on the internets this week and not bothered to put it onto my own blog but you can find 90% of it here on the GW 'What's New Today' blog:
http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/blogPost.jsp?aId=17900004a
The only bit you really need to change is the 'Large flat drybrush' to 'Large flat tank brush' in the section where I am talking about painting the Iyanden Darksun on smooth.
Just heading to my inbox now.
Cheers mate!

No Airbrush?

Post by: redscorps
I only spray the base grey colour on and do the rest by hand. History has shown I am crap at masking and get a lot of bleeds so I just stick to the brush for 90% of the work.

Wow, the new dread looks brilliant, though it looks like he should be playing Blood Bowl or Grind
Are the legs very poseable, or did you have to do a lot of repositioning?
32969
Post by: redscorps
Cheers guys!
ET: Yeah man super poseable. It actually took a really long time to get the position right with the pinning of each individual part which was a blessing and a curse at the same time.
The hours required to build/pose/pin/magnetise (5hrs) were well worth it though and as you can see, dynamic results are possible.
Well a bit of an update, I've got a few things on the boil at the moment:
Infinity-------
PanO Military Orders Starter
Malifaux-------
Lady Justice Crew
Guardian
Watcher
WHFB-------
Pre-ordered Ogre Kingdoms
1x Thundertusk
1x OK Battalion
1x Scraplauncher
2x Mournfang cavalry sets
1x Gnoblar Fighters
WH40k-------
Red Scorpions MkII Land Raider Crusader
Fire Angels Tactical Squad and Rhino to accompany my RS
2x Red Scorpions Attack Bikes.
I'm in the building phase at the moment for all of this stuff, I don't normally have time for WIP's and get through stuff fast enough that it's not necessary really (As Damo said earlier). I should have some finished gear to post in the next week or so.
Stay tuned and thanks for reading everyone.

God, building an attack bike properly takes about as long as it takes me to build a bloody rhino! Maybe longer actually...
Such a fiddly little bit of kit. I've magnetised it though for both HB and MM options so that was a bit of a win. I'm trying to figure out how to 'RS' it up a bit but there's not a lot of room.

They become even nastier when you upgrade the Tac sergeants to apothecaries... and for über nastiness you build an IA10 Siege list with Culln, apothecaries and siege shields!

Post by: nerdfest09
Wow, really! i'm so in the dark about a lot of this hobby aren't I! my knowledge as far as building armies goes is only codex related I didn't realise that IA books had so much fun stuff in them! may have to do one after my sallies!
:-)
18509
Post by: endtransmission
The IA books are great fun as the designers aren't really constrained by what will sell en-mass, just whatever they feel fits the story they are writing for that book, or whatever they have designed recently.
The IA stuff, in general, is overcosted though, so compared to a pure Codex book you'll probably not be quite so well off... but you'll have fun while playing something new.

Have you considered filing off the skulls from the fuel tank and adding small RS decals in their place?
Or put a cver about 50% down the sidecar wheel and detail it with RS iconography?

Post by: redscorps
Hey thanks guys for the comments!
dantay_xv - Got it sorted, added some brass to the front guard and the side guard, subtle but when combined with pilots wearing MkIV armour (Heads, shoulders and back packs at least) it does now look very RS oriented.
I should be able to emphasize that with the paint job as well.
Capitansolstice - Glad you like it mate!
Tech Guard - I'd love to mate but I live in perth and it would be ~700-1000 that I just can't justify spending this year. I will probably go next year when I am a better painter and have something I am more proud to bring and display.
speedfreak - Will try get a more organised presentation for this thread in the future. As I get more done I will have more to show and more reason to group them together.
Thanks again guys.

Coolyo294 - Exactly what I was going for!
MajorTom11 - Thanks man, I appreciate that. I'm glad the company guys are vibing on my work and Dan from the web team said the response was pretty good to the showing and the tutorial.
Feels good to see people like what I'm doing for the most part as it's kinda from out of left field. It's not often you see space marine stuff being so dirty and beat up.
Thanks guys!
Ps I am working on that attack bike, it's about half painted but I have hit a bit of a hobby slump for the last fortnight and haven't really gotten very far with it. It's base coated though so finishing it up should be pretty straight forward when I get some focus..
Seems to be coming up pretty well so far. I 'RS'd' it up with some brass icons on the sides and forge world MkIV heads, torsos and a backpack for the driver plus RS shoulder pads. It's also got the usual colour palate and looks pretty well RS enough to me. Plus it's easy to replicate onto the other ones as well.

I've been building this week, kinda lost my painting mojo a bit since the blitz.. I've punched out the Helios earlier in the week, built a whole bunch of Ork Warbikes and Today built this MkIIb/MkV World Eaters Land Raider:

32969
Post by: redscorps
Hey dude, I snipped the warheads off with some cutters, trimmed the area back a bit with my box cutter and then found the right sized drill bit to bore it out.
It actually worked out to be the exact same size as my bit I use to sink the bigger magnets in vehicles, 5mm to be exact.

What is not cool is to go off on a 500 word swear fest. You should also look up the word 'bigot', you seem to be confused as to it's meaning. I don't think anyone has a problem with Matt's race, sex or political views.
Since your post was complete vitriol and little fact, I am editing it out. For those wondering what he said, he challenged Ritides to a fist fight for asking him to look at the facts and asked us all to kindly make sweet love to ourselves. Or something to that effect. I am sure you can all understand why it needed editing.
That was his last post on this forum (it was redacted out by a mod), either he was banned or decided not to come back, either way it suits me fine.

32969
Post by: redscorps
Thanks gentlemen.
Fatty I had the idea for the storm talon when I saw the sneak peak pics of it online so I ordered the wings for it and had the storm raven bits sitting around after I turned one into some scenery.
Managed to get the bulk of the work done on the afternoon I got it and it turned out pretty much how I had figured it would.
I like it much better, it kinda bites me in the ass though for gaming as it is almost half as much wider than it should be and the tail is a good chunk longer. More hits get those hull points down quickly!

Redscorps! good to see you back man! :-) I love your work (no suprise there) I'm actually happy to see you still running with the marines! Post by: redscorps
Yeah Damo, they were good enough to let me back on after I mouthed off and I want to post a bit more here for the community to see.
I think you owe me an email sunshine
I thought about doing Tyranids but that was a bit of a non-event due to the cost of an army and painting 160 critters that may or may not decide to be on the table depending on how frisky the Tervigons are feeling, I then contemplated something different but if I move away from Marines to anything other than Guard I can't get in my fix of forgeworld models... And I do love marines..
So yeah, Celestial Lions. I will probably just start up a new thread when I have something to show of them.
I'll go check out what you ave been up to now.
