Title says all really but to me the Halo games dont have the same effect as some of the other games i play.

I could say the whole Sci-Fi theme is what makes it unappeal to me, but thats crap because Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 were awesome.

I even played Halo 2(briefly) and completed 3 because I had nothing else to complete!

Now Im not saying any Halo game is drop down , but I just dont understand how so many people are excited over it.

Maybe im just a freak lol.

Halo holds no sway for me, either (except the first one, and since this game was made by the same team as the first one...)

But anyway, no I'm probably not going to get it. I don't have the money, and by the time I get the money together I am going to be so far behind everyone it isn't going to be fun.

Add that to the fact that no one in my game group likes Halo that much, and will not be getting it, I probably won't be getting it either.

Least im not alone lol.

Its all I hear about on Facebook and such.

All my friends are like "Yay Reach in 2 days" and im like "Ugh not again...."

No I will not be getting Halo reach or any other halos for that matter I've played them and they have not gone anywhere new with it same looking graphics, same guns and sames maps.

They bearly have put anything new into the games. And the story isn'very spectacualer either. What could be possibly diffrent about this 1.

Not my kind of game. I wouldn't say no to playing it with a friend, but I also wouldn't go buy it.

I myself am a Halo fan ok a bit of a nerd with it, the wife will tell you that. But its the same for me with Gears of War i really dont get the whole fuss for that game even played both and tried to get in to them. Still only two days to go lol.

I'm not getting it(at least not on release), but that has more to do with money going to conventions being more important.

I loved the first one, indifferent about the second, loved the third...ODST was decent but a bit meh, and looking forward to reach...but now that I am back into 40k, I just don't have room in my life for more than one type of space marines...

And the reason I got addicted to Halo was co-op en LAN parties with friends, online is just nice for practice.

I tried to get into the HALO series but it didn't really appeal to me. I got quite far on the first games campaign but then gave up because it was all the same. Go forward, fire as many bullets at your foes until they die, aim for the red little aliens as it seems killing them makes the orange ones run away faster and if you come up against one of the big ones shoot it with a rocket launcher, mission done. It is kind of the same with GoW but at least that adds some tactics into it with a cover system.

Really, ATM I'm looking forward to the new fable, new Mass Effect and IIRC there should be another kill zone coming soon and even though I've only played the second, it looked awesome enough for me to might as well give the new one a try.

I played HALO 2, and HALO 1. I didn't ever really think that halo was a *good* game series, just the same series of generic hooks used by a lot of other SCI-FI.

same series of generic monsters, same series of superpowered *marine* against the universe. Granted the Flood were alright, but I see nothing groundbreaking about the HALO universe at all.

I might not be getting it due to play.com seemingly being unable to take my money. Had a pre-order legendary copy on order since May and they keep failing to take money out of my account - changed my card details several times, phoned them up and it is still not working.

They better get it working or I may go insane. I was pretty mad when they messed up my pre-order on Mass Effect 2 (similar problem with being unable to take money out of my account for some reason) and ended up not getting the pre-order copy despite them saying that I would.

My xbox 360 is dead so no I won't be getting a copy. I quite like the Halo games and the universe but it doesn't get me excited.

I'm quite happy with my PS3 and currently looking forwards to Fallout new vegas and possibly Vanquish as I like the demo.

Halo is not something I would spend money on....if I am somewhere, and there is a Halo 1 game going, I will play, especially on Blood Gulch with a pistol...

Now, to again show my end of the opinion: I simply find halo too boring now.
Halo 2 was amazing, i used to spend most of my time on it, to the point i never even went near a mini for a long time.
Halo 3 had alot of hype, and while i played it a fair bit and can no longer go any further, i just generally find it far too slow and boring.
Not to mention the whole "cute and fluffy" look it has.

ODST: didnt have a problem with this too much, just too quick to finish and not alot to do after that.

Reach: Played the beta for a while, however, still follows halo 3 every step of the way, just with a few extra's added in, and things taken out.


With Call of duty, keep in mind its 2 different companies involved with them, so the games alternate in playstyle a fair bit.
I just find it to be a game i can enjoy alot more than halo.

Fallout is a new love of mine.
Never played it before i picked up FO3, since then i havent looked back. (like a decent version of oblivion)

I don't really have any comment on your general opinons concerning New Vegas or Black ops except to say that Treyarchs games are generally inferior to infinity wards and that black ops looks to use the same MW engine which is looking a tad bit dated at this point in my opinion. I loved MW2 but I hated world at war. I'll wait to see if treyarch can actually make a good game with the modern warfare liscence or if they'll just make another gakky treyarch game with the name another studio made the best in the industry. New Vegas looks neat and I'll be getting it but without an engine overhaul the game is starting to look very, very dated and the game itself is as admitted by the company basically just a massive expansion/content pack using old assets in new ways. This thread doesn't exist for anything but to create a group that dislikes or doesn't care about halo. As Reach is the big game coming out this week it would follow that the concept and intent of this thread is to counter it by going against popular norms. Original intent is sadly irrelevant, this threads edged into hatefest territory and was there before i arrived.

Can't speak for star craft II (which from what I hear is pretty awesome), but AvP3 sucked a fat one, as far as gameplay goes. It looked pretty but that was it. I still play AvPgold and AvP2, but I coudn't even be bothered finishing the single player campaigns in AvP3, and after a week and a half I was totally over MP as well.

I don't hate Halo, but I don't like it enough to purchase it. Co-Op is the best thing about Halo so I can just play it with my friends who are buying it.

I'm not getting Halo Reach because I don't have an Xbox and Microsoft is too much of a butthole to realize the huge cash cow they are missing by not adding Reach to PC.

Civilization V - latest in the series from Sid Meier. As the title suggests...it's a game about the rise of Civilization. You begin with a single settler, and gradually build cities and improvements to make a civilization. It's also freaking addictive.

Back on topic, though, I'm not getting Reach either. I enjoyed Halo, but about 1/4 of the way through Halo 2, I realized that it was just Halo all over again. Ironically, there is a bunch of new stuff in Reach which is strange since it's a prequel.
That said it will probably be a rental for me. If it manages to make me fall in love with it I probably still won't buy it new.

OP: You are not the only one. I have no care for Halo. Played 2, tried 3. Sold them both. I'm playing the crap out of Borderlands and can't wait for New Vegas. Pre-Ordered the collectors ed. Hee... Can't wait!

Halo 2 was the only game I ever pre-ordered from Gamestop. Within a week there were used copies available for purchase.

Halo 3 was fun. But not fun enough to not sell my Xbox 360 before the red ring of death and get a PS3 instead.

Fallout here I come. Halo can wait.

I was going to get it but then I couldn't resist the urge and bought a land raider instead.

Why do so many people dislike halo? It has great weapon balance (unlike COD MW2), has a decent story, great graphics, and VEHICLES! COD fans never have any response to that one. Vehicles are what make halo awesome, and until other games let me drive around in a tank rampaing around the map or drive like a maniac in a jeep thing while my gunner is spraying machine gun fire, Halo will always be my favorite game series. Although the COD campaigns are fun, and I usually rent the games when they come out, but I might actually buy COD black ops. Halo is still better. But I am a die hard sci-fi fan.

Alright, yes I will admit the needler is way overpowered. Me and my friends call it the Noobler. And the Rocket pod is pretty overpowered, it completely ruined air combat. But other than that the weapons are pretty balanced. (compared to MW2 where you can snipe with pistols and an SMG does more damage than a LMG, a barret 50 cal takes two hits to kill with chest shots, and not to mention the magic riot sheild which can withstand a 50 cal round from 2 feet away.)

Combos I don't consider to be over powered. It's just strategy. And if someone is using the noob combo, just blow their head off with a sniper round.

I have halo reach for the following reasons:

1) i have about 7 friends who play it, good fun.
2) i have played halo1/2/3/odst/reach all of which i enjoy and still play
3) i get my old pistol back!
4) forge world
5) the new covenant models look.. well epic.
6) campaign is great fun
7) theatre
8) Invasion is... well one of my favourite modes.
9) new weapons and new abilities (double image... is amazing)
10) im good at the game.

And I also play it because of #10- I don't have much time for gaming, and this is a game I am already passable at (maybe not "good" ). At least the first one, would often play through some of the levels on legendary with a friend and not die. Got second place in a team tourney at my college back then (out of only nine teams or so, but still!). So it's something I'm decent at, and enjoy

And it does look beautiful... getting a new TV + halo reach = win

I believe it is the hologram ability - you create a holographic double which runs around the map (I think it only runs forward but I may be wrong).

Very cool! That wasn't in the beta nice that they saved some tricks up their sleeve for the main release!

Needler isn't overpowered...

Strafing makes it useless, and it does almost no damage until you get enough needles to asplode someone with it.

The only real thing it's good for is destroying unaware snipers and the like.

I'm not getting it, but then again I have a PS3, and no money (I'm spending it at games day).

My House-Master at school might be getting a copy to go with the new Xbox 360 in the sixth form room though

What about the level of customization available in Halo: Reach? Where else can you find that? (Not including rts games). And actually this is kind of a serious question. Are there any other games that let you build your own maps and stuff like halo? I would like to see stuff like that more in fps games.

Ill give Halo its due, it kept me entertained for a while, but not as long as people were saying (I found mutiplayer crap tbh). The aspect to make custom maps?? Yea its cool but why bother when you don't intend to play it with others as is the case for me.

With the download of a free tool The Sims 3 allows you to create your very own map, yes it may be hard to use to begin with but it is still a map editor. Although I havnt seen the custom maps in any FPS other than Halo.

Don't get me wrong Halo would be a good game to me if it had "clicked" the same way as Fable: The Lost Chapters, Oblivion or Modern Warfare 2 did.

Never got a chance to play Firewarrior, have the game but it just wont run on my PC even tho its good.

Yes well World at War had tanks and yet I thought that was complete and utter garbage.

Johnscott - that was due to having to make a dedicated class to take vehicles down in WAW, or rely on team to do so.

In halo anyone can take a vehicle down with ease, which makes it no problem.


also, the only part of WAW i enjoy if the sniping, since i dont have to have a fething scope on it.

I have seen a bit of reach from my room mate. Challenges are a very obvious influence from MW, though the daily challenges is a great idea. The new armor selection is nice as well, though I'd like to see orange added as a visor color

About the only thing I hate is how every ing game mode is freaking battle rifles or DRM's whatever they call it now. I hate long range combat and there isn't an SMG or an assault rifle is sight darnit.

But...I love the DMR...(yes I bought the game, Black ops doesn't come out for 3 months)

I don't hate it per se, I just hate HAVING to use it because there aren't any other guns on the freaking maps. Every now and then I find a sniper but I suck at range. I find rockets and the like and the various power weapons but I hate that the DMR/Needle rifle(?) are the standard weapons for play even in CQC maps!

At least give me an assault rifle damnit

I wish I could, but it's only an option in Classic Slayer, all the other slayer modes use the needle rifle and the DMR and don't even put anything else on the map except the occasional needler and power weapons.

Which brings me to the next annoyance. When I click, Slayer matchmaking, I want slayer damnit! No Slayer snipers. Not slayer swat. Not slayer pro. Not slayer DMR's, not Elite slayer, just mother ing slayer.

Try invasion. Its very fun

Most people don't seem to remember that Halo was released in 2001 and predates all the 'great' FPS games that came after it that everyone keeps saying aren't 'generic halo titles.'

I find it hard to believe anyone is ignorant enough to call Halo generic. You don't have to like it but it certainly isn't a generic FPS.

Agreed. I'm no Halo apologist but I find some people hate halo just because of all the hype around the games ignoring the fact that they are very well made games with a lot of time put into virtually every aspect. Is Halo perfect? No. but I'm convinced that anyone who says it's a bad game is either a hater or is expecting something they shouldn't from a shooter.
To show I'm not a fan boy I was really disappointed that the sprint ability wasn't a standard control. that was one of the thing most other shooters have that Halo doesn't. Which slows the action somewhat compared to Call of Duty games (which have their own flaws).

As far as my summary of reach;
I was planning to rent this game before I bought it because I was afraid that it was just kicking a dead horse. Then my room mate bought it so I tried it and after playing through I came to the conclusion that it was kicking a dead horse but with a really nice boot (and the horse had it coming).
