Title pretty much sums up the thread's question. Are you going to make a Dark Eldar army after their release, and why?
I don't know if this thread has been done before, I have a feeling it has but better to start it again now before someone else.
For me, it's more of a maybe. I don't know if I'll join.
I REALLY love the new minis, but I'm afraid the play style will be a bit punishing to learn from my time spent using Tau, as the switch to Chaos Space Marines did *shudders*.
*EDIT* Changed to poll. Answers are left simple to keep discussion going.

No. I have no interest in the dark eldar. Despite all the hype, I think they'll be a lot fewer people jumping to DE because it's harder to jump to a xenos race like them than it is to "counts as" an existing army like we saw with the SW and BA.

I have been sure that I'd bandwagon the bad space elves for a long time now. But after seeing the pics, I'm not so sure. The Raiders and Warriors are cool but I'm not seeing a lot else that really grabs me. Mind you, I'm not saying that the models aren't beautiful on the whole. They certainly are. Those bikes are especially making me salivate. But it's going to take some neat rules to convince me. Otherwise, I've been thinking of Ultramarines for a long time now. And, no, that's not even a joke.

I just hope that they don't make the DE way to good, they were already pretty competitive if you played them right with their old codex.

Well I don't know if it counts as jumping on, since the only reason I didn't get them when I re-entered the wonderful world of 40k was the rumours that a new codex/models were coming "soon".
Now the day is here, I will finish putting together/painting my 1000 or so points of Biker Marines and join the Dark Kin

The new Dark Eldar models look amazing and its nice to see this army get an update. The new models look 100x better than the previous ones.
Me personally, No I'm not. As I said the new models look amazing it's just the Dark Eldar don't peak my interests very much. If I were to start a new army after I was done with my SW I'd be more likely to go with Eldar than Dark Eldar, or SoB if they came out in plastic.

I'm not going to start DE, but I'm thinking that the new Incubi might make some neat GW wielding Chosen/Chaos Warriors for my WoC.
People considering starting DE should wait for the FAQ though. GW's current track record concerning non-SM FAQs if pretty bad.

I doubt I'll wind up getting an actual army, but I will certainly pick up a few of the miniatures to paint and perhaps make a mini-diorama from. They're too pretty to not.
That being said, if there were a way to make a cheap jetbike list at around 750 points, then maybe. Maaaaaybe. But I've already got my Orks and Lizardmen to finish first.

I like the cut of yer gib sah!
Cutting the crusts off scale cucumber sarnies could be fiddly though.
Already have a DE army and cannot afford/be bottomed to build a whole new one but there are certain elements missing.
fwiw will probably get a Talos old one if the new one proves to be a duffer.
Given the release that seems highly unlikely.
Will get some mandrakes if they look cool
Pretty much have the rest.
The inclusion of the Harlies is very good news as I love their fluff and will cram in as many as poss.
However will be looking to convert the new models rather than buy the current ones. They just don't cut the mustard for me.
Not that they are bad
But the modelling possibilities with the new models for conversions is very exciting
Sorry to be speculative and probably the wrong place but what is te likely allowable Harlie component, how much may one have in the Eldar army for example please?

So I was really, really considering getting DE about a year ago, and I even ordered the codex and a battleforce. EVERYBODY knows. (or SHOULD know) that when a new codex comes out there will be a massive influx of players jumping onto the wagon. It's because the newest codex usually has some juicy stuff in it that makes a mockery of the other races previous to it (in some cases at-least). And people want a piece of this, ofcourse theres people who just want something new because their current army is old and boring suddenly (I kid, sorry to those who take it srsly).
to answer your question. No I won't jump into the wagon just because its a new codex and now that said codex will rape mine profusely due to new rules that counter mine.

I will not be raider-jumping/ensnared upon their slave chains/scaling nets.
I have no wish to start a DE army. Although I can see myself buying several of the kits/boxes purely to add differences to my existing CRAFTWORLD Eldar army.
The new Reavers will make kickass rides for jetbike characters.
Wych bits will see use in Guardian storm squads.
The Raider will possibly join the other vehicles for armies I don't collect in the display cabinet (I don't play Tau, Orks or Necrons either, but have both a hammerhead, a Trukk AND a monolith purely because I like the models).

I gotta admit the new DE models look AWESOME (except for the witch character, IMHO she looks like she was a he that just had a part of it's manhood cut off after many years of confusion) and I'm glad they've finally been done some justice after so long. That being said I'm not going to be playing Dark Eldar any time in the forseable future, it is very tempting to do some kit bashing between the DE and DE from fantasy but I'll probably just get the codex so I can read up on their rules, fluff and have a visual source of models for future conversions.

Regardless of what the rules are I'll be pre-ordering next week just because the models are awesome and suddenly I'm bored of painting blue power armour (I actually never thought that would happen), so the Smurfs will have to sit back and watch for a while, as I build my first complete evil army (I've got bits of most armies but they temd to never get finished/the codex changes and invalidates what I've got already)

B, with a little A thrown in. I've been wanting to start Dark Eldar for about a year and a half now, and was just waiting (and hoping) for a new release to hit. Since it is here, I'm in full tilt. I guarantee I will lose about 90% of my games as I learn the army, since my other 40k army is Orks, pretty much the exact opposite in play style (I run mech assault, so some similarities). I bought and played Space wolves, I love the viking-esque fluff of them, but for some reason I'm terrible at playing MEQ armies, granted I only played a handful of games with the space puppies. But since every other person plays them, I think I'll change things up, so bring on the dark ones!

The main reason I have always liked Dark Eldar since they were my first army was.
A: The "muahahahaha" evil of them. They aren't on some revenge trip against some father figure like chaos marines are.
B: Their tactics.
The new models are great to get me more encouraged to field them as my main army again., Which I hadn't done for a few years due to being bored of the terrible models, as well as them being my first fully painted force 8 odd years back. So now seems like as good a time as any to do revamp the army from scratch and do the new models some justice. Plus their play-style seems for the most part unchanged. Good all rounder ranged and combat units with a few heavy hitters in close to mid range. And mobile fire-power and speed.

Same here. I already have 1.5k (my first army!) and it'd be nice to go back and look at it afresh.
