The Scarab Prince Corsairs: A Kabal Hell Bent On The Fall Of Vect @ 2010/11/16 20:47:59

The Scarab Prince Corsairs

984.M37: In the demon infested wastes of Shaa-dom, a young and determined noble, Cyrax K'oviac of the house Serenus, bands together a force of survivors. After a week of desperate warfare and searching, they come across a webway gate that appears unguarded. The gate's navigational devices suffered interference due to the presence of warp entities. Lost in the webway, they are confronted with the very real possibility of an eternity spent in the many dark corridors of the veil.

985.M37: A number of Kabalites belonging to the Kabal of the Black Heart are found dead at two locations within weapon factories. Each corpse has it's face disfigured in the mocking smile of the laughing god. Many weapons of both splinter and dark light functions are stolen, no trace of the intruders are found, much to Vect's anger and distaste. These assaults happen sporadically over the space of three (Terra) years with little or no retaliation.

987.M37: Over a hundred dark eldar clad in bone armour, deploy through means of webway travel onto the bridge of the Black Heart ship "Eternal Agony". Through the use of clone field technology and phantasm grenades, they gain control of the ship. After the initial assault, reinforcements arrive through webway portals in the form of harlequins. Blood is shed and the ship is stolen right under the nose of the Kabalite fleet.

213.M38: The Scarab Prince Corsairs emerge into the Nhexite Ship maw, a shipping lane often used by imperial traders as a short cut in southern space and through severe and sudden force, take control of the area. The destruction of several imperial outposts silences the safety of the Maw.

Present: The Corsairs are currently at war with a vast ork infestation on the planet Backdraw. Cyrax still maintains control of his kabalite fleet and his hatred for Vect still burns bright. Rumours have it that he has regular contact with Lady Malys of the Poisoned Tongue and the Duke Sliscus and plans for the assassination of Adsrubael are already circulating. Some that have heard him speak have reported that he speaks with several voices at once, whether this is madness, a result of the thousands of souls he has consumed over the millions of years he has been alive or that he is a vessel of Cegorach may never be revealed. One thing is known though, should the eye of Cyrax fall on you, you best be prepared to face a nightmare.

Welcome to my P&M blog. I hope you enjoy this thread as much as I do. Some of the thread may be made wrong by the timeline and fluff added above, so be aware that presented above is the final draft of the story behind the army and the army list to reflect the Prince's raiding force in warhammer 40, 000 can be found on page four. Thank you!

I look forward to your progress and army...

Thanks guys, just realized I didn't give a description of the colour scheme, the kabalites have a bone coloured armour with blue shoulder pads, gems and other details.

The splinter rifles and other metal bits are a purplish metal that I think reflects the alien, noxious nature of the weapons...

Bone colored ey? I haven't seen that before. But when I picture it in my mind, it looks good. Awesome.

Really nice work. How are you going to paint the bases?
By the way the red writing at the top is really hard to read. I couldn't be bothered reading your fluff because of it so you might want to change it if you want people to read it...

Changed the colour. Not sure on the bases. Haven't decided yet. Any suggestions?

Actually I'll start a poll.

I voted for "Oceanic style", I think that or a ship deck would complement the pallet you're using really nicely! I love the scheme, my only thought is that perhaps the skin color is too close to the armor color on the helmetless model.

The Scarab Prince Corsairs: A Kabal Hell Bent On The Fall Of Vect @ 2010/11/17 05:13:20

Post by: InventionThirteen

The skin isn't too close in person. I was a bit gutted that the picture shows it as being almost exactly the same. The picture also doesn't show the tattoo above an below his eye either, that I spent a while getting right!

I am wondering now how I would do the ship deck. Suggestions are welcome!

The Scarab Prince Corsairs: A Kabal Hell Bent On The Fall Of Vect @ 2010/11/17 08:48:46

Post by: Foxtale

Ship deck would be awesome. Depends.

A Sci Fi ship deck:
- make a greenstuff mold and cut little reverse L rivets into it, then for each base...
- cover in thin layer of greenstuff
- press into lubricated mold
- trim edges

A marine ship deck:
- thin layer of greenstuff
- press knife deep into it | | | | | etc for decking planks
- use knife tip or lightly press knife into it ||||||| to get wood grain

Love the scheme, by the way. Light coloured DEldar look excellent! I wasn't sure how well that would turn out.

The Scarab Prince Corsairs: A Kabal Hell Bent On The Fall Of Vect @ 2010/11/17 09:46:24

Post by: InventionThirteen

They are dark in nature, they don't need to wear black and say "BLAH" hahaha

I thought the light scheme would look great on mass. Can't wait to finish the unit and assemble a raider for them. Kill team anyone? This is the first army I've enjoyed making so I plan to do a unit at a time
and just go with it.

thanks for the suggestions in regards to making bases. It's constructive and will give me a good start!

The Scarab Prince Corsairs: A Kabal Hell Bent On The Fall Of Vect @ 2010/11/17 11:05:33

Post by: Foxtale

Who knows, you could carry the woodgrain pattern onto the hull of your raiders, so they look like wooden ships.

Maybe replace the Aethersails with masts and square-sails, and do them up with rigging. Oh, and an eldar skull and crossbones. You can't be a true pirate eldar without one.

In all seriousness though, this scheme is going to look amazing on the raiders.

Post by: Scrazza

ah the pictures arrived. They look better then I anticipated. Good work.

My votes on the oceanic style. That will blend in nicely with your light colored armour.

The Scarab Prince Corsairs: A Kabal Hell Bent On The Fall Of Vect @ 2010/11/18 02:07:10

Post by: InventionThirteen

I'm thinking of an oceanic/eldar looking tile to the base. Green stuff raised in circular designs, just a fraction off the base in places.

Rigging... Now that sounds awesome. I'm planning the top half of the raider will be the bone colour with the armour plating at the bottom being blue.

Nautical is cool. May even have to change the name of the kabal...

As for an eldar jolly roger, thats awesome, thinking a skull with a bandanna over its nose and mouth in a gangster pirate-ish way with crossed daggers?

The next installment of tasty fluff stuff...

An alliance built on bloodshed and plunder:

The Nhexite Ship Maw is a narrow area in the southwest of imperial space, a corridor between asteroid formations often used as a short cut between imperial trade routs. While the risks of damage to star craft is one thing, the reputation it has gathered as being a place to lose a ship all together is a fable often talked about at many a rogue trader's table. The reward often outweighs the risk and many take the chance to brave the passage in order to knock vital time off the shipping logs. Many an aristocrat or government official will pay dearly to have their goods delivered through this method.

"Never dare you brave the Maw, the spiders nest there and they will soon have you in their web son!" Pyros Tochan, Pilot of the "Lady's Grace"

"If the teeth scare you, then you have a lot to learn, darkness gathers there, dreams and nightmares of stolen men manifest within her mouth!" Victor Landcaster, Navigator of "Golden Tribute"

The truth of the matter is that a pirate fleet of Dark Eldar control the passage, portals pass and shift in the location depending on the movement of the asteroid clusters. Any particularly decent load carried by over confident and cocky traders is theirs to the taking. While hit and run tactics maintain a steady flow of stolen goods into the clutches of the Scarab Prince Corsairs, every so often the Sky Serpents will intercept a large host of ships with the Corsairs. Of course the deal usually goes 70/30 with the Duke taking the majority, however the small Kabal still takes a considerable amount of goods and slaves back through the portals to Commorragh. A way to wealth the Duke is not welcome to. Were it not for these portal lanes being maintained and the knowledge of the passage the Sky Serpents would be without this prey. Another reason why the Prince is left to his own devices.

Really enjoying reading your fluff.

Coolminiornot had a tutorial to using their water effects. When you said marine tiles, that's what I thought about. Basically, using rocks, with Vallejo Atlantic Blue gel capped with their foam to make it look like waves are crashing up against them.

Kind of like...

Oh hells yeah! That looks amazing. Hmmmm I'd have to trial and error it to get it right first.

I'm wondering if they sell that gear in New Zealand?

The Scarab Prince Corsairs: A Kabal Hell Bent On The Fall Of Vect @ 2010/11/20 00:45:02

Post by: Foxtale

Buy it from Maelstrom. Seriously, I get everything from them. It's half the cost and ships in two to three weeks usually. I've only had one problem with them sending the wrong thing and I've spent about $2000 with them. They fixed it right up though. Beats trying to find a hobby store in NZ that stocks them.

(Not an ad, though the amount of people I recommend them to, I should get a commission.)

I only wish I had a colour scheme that would let me do that ocean thing.

(Though you might need to find a hobby store that sells cork for the rocks, or you could just find a bunch of flat rocks.)

I voted for the sand bases. I think you could do a lot of desert/mirage stuff with that color scheme. Some nice sand stone rocks or interesting rock formations. Also, dune could be a source of inspiration to that end, or the star wars desert ships.

The Scarab Prince Corsairs: A Kabal Hell Bent On The Fall Of Vect @ 2010/11/20 06:25:56

Post by: InventionThirteen

When I was painting them I couldn't get out of my head the idea of a desert raiding party and the barge in star wars. (Not sure what film, never been much of a fan)

However, as the Kabal are mostly space born I guess any ground or planet style will work. I do have desert style basing stuff here from my last army... Hmmmm.

Just a quick update for those of you interested, finally found the time and the unit is finished, I will base them tonight, they are getting a sand with patches of grass base to match the table I am building, did a test model and it looks great, going to splash out and get them a raider at Christmas. The Scarab prince himself is in the assembly stage and will be painted this week. I will post pictures when both the prince and the unit are based. Thank you for your support And my rather awesome better half had a games workshop box arrive to her place recently and unless she has finally given in to the temptations of geekdom, I'd say that means a merry old slave trading Christmas for myself and the prince.

Sorry that my posting has been lazy of late, been rather busy with the Christmas period coming up, I'm sure you all know how mental it can get!

The Scarab Prince Corsairs: A Kabal Hell Bent On The Fall Of Vect @ 2010/12/09 21:54:01

Post by: InventionThirteen

I used the excellent archon model but I felt that an eldar such as he, from aristocratic blood and arrogance would not dare cover his features with a helmet!

I clipped off a few of the heads supplied in the kabalite kit, and there it was! The face that matched his name. My army list has him armed with a husk blade and soul trap, as this matches fluff too, the Scarab Prince being a fan of swordsmanship and a thing for collecting, be it trinkets or souls... Still deciding weather or not he will carry that samurai-ish banner pole with his personal icon on it, that sharp blade from the Archon kit or the trophy rack on his back. More leaning towards the banner as it makes him stand out straight away.

I like his cyber-punkish hair cut too. Hmmm hopefully Christmas sees the addition of the Incubi from the shrine of Khaine Eternal. I plan on replacing their heads with everyday kabalite helmets. I'm not a huge fan of the horned helmets of the new models but I like the stances and armour sculpts. Hopefully with the smaller helmets they look like an elite bunch of bodyguards for the Archon. Aaaannnndddd last but not least a unit of ten hellions, because well, I can, and the unit (with combat drugs) can cause utter mayhem if used correctly!

There are seven thin layers to the concoction. it's a signature bone thing I came up with through many attempts. I undercoated by hand with chaos black, then used a foundation paint, dheneb stone (not sure of the spelling) then bleached bone, a heavy wash of gryphone sepia then bleached bone highlights through to skull white. Then you use badab black wash very sparingly in the tight spots between the armour plating. Chur.

First update of this fine new year. Built two units of trueborn. One is designed for anti-tank, the other for anti-infantry, although they can be swapped around to provide two balanced units.

Here is the first dracon of the Scarab Prince Corsairs.

Dracon Aurora Decsh'kanor

The prince's most trusted tactician, she is the overseer of the fleet and the leader of the Trueborn collective known as The Shade Guard. Any plans the Archon makes are looked over and reworked into masterpieces of tactical brilliance by Aurora and she takes pride in the death of any who are marked by the Scarab Prince. In a jealous fit of rage the Prince is said to have slashed the Dracon's breath taking face with a sharp blade and although surgery could return her to her former beauty she believes it has made her into a stronger, darker leader. For this reason she wears a helmet elaborate enough to reflect her esteemed rank and is never seen outside of her personal chambers without it. To battle she brings a pair of venom blades and a pistol known as the balefather.

Dracon Khaalu Haelithe

The most mysterious figure in the corsairs, nobody truly knows where he came from, rumor had it that he is in fact a craftworlder, originally hailing from Saim-Hann. As a young warrior he was taken into the Kabal and has served his masters well. He claims to be true of birth and none question his ability to hunt the enemies of the Prince. He takes to war an agonizer whip called "Hatesnare" and is often accompanied by his anti-tank trueborn specialists.

...And now for the split unit of trueborn:

The Shade Guard

A unit of the most arrogant and self righteous trueborn, they are responsible for head hunting the marked victims of the Prince. It is a job they take very seriously and the amount of elaborate weaponry they have access to ensures the task is done as messy as possible. The squad is never asked to take captives and their bloodlust is famous. The competition within the ranks is borderline insane, with games and kill counters being arranged before combat to ensure they have a clear 'winner'. For all their anarchist talk and rebellious actions, none dare cross the Dracon. In fact to mention their names without dire reason to is an offense punishable by death.

Hope you enjoy this update, feedback is optional

Here's what I got done last night!

The sail will have bone detailing with the symbols. Don't stress at it's current state!
I got around to painting Aurora up and even managed to get her killed by four hungry ork Nob's and three defkoptas or whatever they're called.
NEVER leave your trueborn stranded in the middle of the battlefield!

And for those of you who asked really nicely, here are some better pictures of the Prince himself...

The little purple details on the Prince's cloak look great.

I must say, I am really looking forward to seeing that Raider. The sail looks good, though it looks a bit squished up the top, with too much space under the scarab symbol.

The bare head for the Prince works really well and the paintjob is top notch!

Vitruvian XVII: Thank you for your compliments! I shall have more pictures up tonight!

Foxtale: Yeah I felt the same, it now has a series of symbols that are the scarab prince's own bastardization of the dark eldar runic system. The runes spell "Shark of Sand".

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Here's an update of what took me around half an hour to do... not a lot, still have to undercoat and paint the metal parts, the crew and apply a small wash to the recesses between armour plates to add depth.
Yeah I said armour plates... AV10 anyone? No? Didn't think so.

The Sand Shark is a raider built at the founding of the corsair party and has served the pirates through many battles. It has had many lives and many resurrections. As the Scarab Prince is too proud to have anything in disrepair, this raider has been salvaged from complete destruction on many occasions, being scavenged from the battlefield and reassembled/built. It's twin "Eye of All" was a raider built at the same time and purchased together with the Sand Shark, the twin was stolen however after a raid went awry on a small imperial outpost. It was taken by human hands and stripped for a better understanding of parts. The Mon-Keigh only realized their fate with the souls of thirteen tormented psychics were released from its hull. The curse of the Prince stripped flesh from bone and soul from body. Some, still alive on the outpost moon have said to have seen the face of the Prince in the reflective surfaces of crater pools, claiming he will return to take back what was his.

Imperials huh, you can tell them a hundred times, don't touch that thing, it will hurt I promise and they never listen.

Thank you all for your comments! such positivity goes down well!

I've got the trueborn on the painting table atm and I'm about halfway through. I'm a very slow model painter. Which is kinda weird when I can produce a painting on canvas as tall as I am in one whole day...

The Raider is looking really good. The armour plating looks great in those colours. And the banner looks awesome now!

I'm not sold on the rear fin though. The blue contrasts too harshly with the rest of the raider, I think.

Nice.

Just nice, I'm working my way towards building my own DE Kabal as well, when I can get the funds together

I considered a light paintjob, (though from what I've got running through my head I don't think it'll fit my fluff ), but it's come together really nice. Don't get lazy and stop posting! This is some quality stuff ^^

Also, from NZ? Good man. It's good to see us kiwis getting recognition such as being on the GW site! Thumbs to you, kind sir.

@ExarchCain Yeah man, from west auckland! I will be posting for as long as this army is mine, right through to updated fluff and battle reports. Keep your eyes peeled to this thread.
If you need help coming up with a colour scheme feel free to P.M me some of the fluff, I'm an art student and I'm used to visualizing colours/theme. I felt a light scheme was a better option as while they may be dark and evil in nature I really don't believe they should wear it like a costume. I mean what's more scary than seeing something you think you recognize (perhaps from contact with craftworlders) change before your eyes into a blood-thirsty killing machine? If you're local we should have a game!

@Happygrunt and many many awesome others! Thank you for the positive feedback!

Haha a Westie eh? Brilliant, seen the West's house yet??? D:

Lol anyway, I'm actually from Tauranga

And yeah man I may take you up on that offer, I'm an artist myself, though I'm more into pencil drawing than anything else, and haven't been there for a while. I'll hit you up when I've got some of the fluff made up, but I think in the end I might just go with what I'm looking for myself

And that's understandable, it's come out really nice, also you don't have to show dark colours to portray 'evilness' I mean, bone white? That in itself could learn an enemy to fear you. Armour made from the bone of countless captives, perhaps?

Just a quick update for those who are following. I have had a week of migraine headaches and haven't got a lot done. But I am working on a ten man hellion squad that can split down into two five man teams, lelith hesperax, a unit of ten wyches and a new model of the scarab prince, this time with a blast pistol and a stun claw agoniser. This is a nod to his connections (having risen from hellion to his place in kabalite society). I will be updating the fluff as a few things have changed as the army has come together.

They now hail from Shaa-dom and were exiled before the realm's demise and have a distinct hatred of vect. Their base of operations is a vast asteroid cluster in the Nhexite Shipmaw and they are currently at war with an ork infestation on the planet "Backdraw", an isolated and desolate, desert wasteland world with nothing much to offer but bloodshed and desperation. The scarab prince took his title as head of the kabal when he murdered his blood brother Ometh and took his place. The kabal has limited resources, this is due to their exile, not wealth. The steady supply of slaves and stolen, black market goods keeps them in the game and they push their product through a vast abandoned imperial outpost that they call "Khafum Mahdum" or more commonly known as "The Shade Halls". This place is run by the kabal's trueborn and the Shade Guard watch over dealings with human mercenaries, thugs and alien bounty hunters and thieves. Cyrax maintains contact with the Duke Sliscus and the corsairs have often served as paid skirmish experts for the Sky Serpents when the need arises. The scarab prince has also purchased the services of his old hellion gang "The Black Locusts" and through their knowledge of Commorragh's aristocracy often plans terrorist raids into the webway city, killing members of the Black Heart and dispersing into real-space before retribution. Recently the great Leltith Hesperax caught talk of the corsairs and has paid, in full, to borrow elements of the Prince's kabal for the capture of ork nobility for her arena shows, as they are familiar with both Backdraw's landscape and ork tactics. This has created a symbiotic relationship between the wych cults and the corsairs.

Well although the lelith sculpt is amazing the metal model truely sucks. The arms are small and trying to glue the joints together is a real b****. The dagger arm lost the bottom of the dagger's hilt as the joint is tiny and pathetically weak and on top of that none of the joints match up properly. Come on games workshop, plastic characters are where it should be. The dark eldar range kicks ass. Why can't the materials?

On a side note regarding the metal characters the new Archon model is amazingly awesome...

Yeah the Lilith model is a I have to get a new one as mine is all sorts of messed up. The knife arm for mine did break and the model is impossible to file down well. You have got the right idea with the plastic models. I wouold even settle for resin ones. I like the archon as well. Its so easy to convert. You think the Hellion HQ will be plastic or metal? Or both? Metal person and a standard plastic skyboard?

The Scarab Prince Corsairs: A Kabal Hell Bent On The Fall Of Vect @ 2011/01/26 03:41:14

Post by: InventionThirteen

I hope the baron is plastic. Metal and flying stands don't go well together. I managed to get lelith to co-operate. She's a stroppy one. Thinking of a plastic archon conversion for the scarab prince with different wargear. Perhaps from a wych to show his athletic prowess?

The Scarab Prince Corsairs: A Kabal Hell Bent On The Fall Of Vect @ 2011/01/26 04:02:54

Post by: sum1thtdiesalot

Good idea. I would try it. Worst case scenario you have a Succubus to use. And if you cut off that plastic bar on the wych's foot you can get some really cool "sliding" type poses. I made some wyches like that. I have one that is wall running too. What wargear would he be sporting?

The Scarab Prince Corsairs: A Kabal Hell Bent On The Fall Of Vect @ 2011/01/26 04:22:53

Post by: InventionThirteen

An agoniser in the form of a stunclaw, as he was once a hellion, and a blast/splinter pistol.

That way I can field him as a webway delivery system or a huskblade guy. Actually running a succubus instead could be very interesting...

I highly doubt that GW will make the Baron plastic judging from their previous habits of making characters metal.

I'd have to agree with sum1thtdiesalot, resin would be much better than metal.

I may have complained about the gluing/material side of things but what an amazing model to paint! Blown away. I'll have her finished tomorrow and uploaded

The leather looks a lot better in blue I think, brings her slim physique up more. Haha she looks a little like a super villain. I guess it fits as I used the profile in a game last week (using an old school count as wych from my old kabal.) and she slaughtered her way through three units herself. Her wych squad just died around her, but that's what you get when you roll with an athlete.

"Come, Alasan, tell us of your troubles, look upon the altar of the emperor and speak of your woes!"

Two figures moved down the chapel way, robes trailing behind them upon cobblestones covered in the dust of ages. Before they reached the stairs to the holy place, Alasan, son of Osika, spoke from beneath his hood.

"We saw them come over the ridge of Taelith, sharp vehicles that float upon the air. Each one swarmed with passengers who moved with grace and the air became thin at their passing. I ran to the towers, to alert the guard but they were already loading their weapons and assembling their gear. I could hear the hum of their transports as silence descended upon the township. Part of me loathed these beings, part of me wanted to love them. Could they be the blessed remains of the Akatanos? The ones that crafted these lands?"

"Tell me more of these beings! But within the safe walls of the temple, I fear that foul ears strain to hear us!"

They broke into a run, dust kicked up in their wake. Human fear taking a hold of them, hearts thudding faster. Step by step they climbed the stairs of sunlight until the reached the open doorway. At once reality returned and they slowed in respect to their surroundings. Alasan sat upon a stool and the other man rested his frame upon a pew made from stone.

"The gate master ran to the gates and sealed them, the walls rang as each door slammed into place. The hum stopped. Those seconds ate at me, picked at my nerves like malicious sprites. Too silent it was! Then came the knock, it boomed it's mockery to the absence of sound. Marious, the foolish boy yelled from the guard tower, he asked who they were and why they had come here! I feared the wrath of the Akatanos!"

The other man moved forward, coming closer, listening with the best of his ability. Alasan rose to his feet and began to tremble.

"Then we heard the voice, so fair and calming, so powerful and commanding. The accent was thick and writhed with the tell tale ring of the foreign. It was not that of the Akatanos! "Come forth, I am the Scarab Prince, I demand that you end this insult!" Oh but the boy, he came running, the fool answered the voice with a gesture. He slid the bar from the doorway and the doors swung open. To my horror, there was nothing on the other side but the sand and wind. Then, oh emperor save us, they came over the walls."

Alasan fell back onto his stool, his hands in tight fists.

"They threw nets onto those that couldn't run and pursued the fit with ease. Those that took up arms were filled with poisoned barbs, shot from alien rifles. Their black lips ushered whispers I will never shake from my memory as the vehicles dragged them through the gate. I hid beneath a fallen flag, the holy Aquila kept me safe Khanos!"

Khanos wept, his eyes expressing his sympathy for the young survivor. Alasan rose again to his feet. He drew a small blade from his belt, the steel glinting in the light that poured from the windows. It's surface held a purple sheen, a sick and strange shimmer that darkened towards the hilt. It appeared the colour flowed toward the warmth of his touch.

"I took this from one. I killed one, it had no idea I was there. When it came past, I tripped it and it's head hit the side of the building and it fell lifeless. I pulled it under the flag and waited until the sounds stopped. The village was on fire, I dared not look any further than I had to. Emperor knows what I may have seen! I dragged the alien across the courtyard and used Mc Kraven's truck to bring it here. I wish for you to look upon it before I alert the Imperial Guard."

Silence fell in the confines of the temple. Alasan walked from the light, putting the dagger back from where it had been concealed. The two did not rush down the steps as Khanos was lost in thought. Something wasn't right. Why hadn't the boy gone to the soldiers that would protect them? As they crossed the cobblestones again toward the truck, the dust stirred at their feet like before and the air rang with a strange hum. Khanos pulled the flag away from the figure beneath. An armoured form lay prone, its hands and legs tied together. Curiosity over took the holy man and the monk removed the helmet, golden blonde hair spilled out and to his horror, the face of Alasan looked up at him. Lifeless eyes stared from beneath swollen eyes.

"Spit no scream mon-keigh, make no move. You are now the property of the Prince."

The betrayer removed his hood with one hand as the other held the alien dagger to the monk's throat. Purple hair fell from a tight top not, held in place by the bones of human fingers. His eyes were jet black, the colour of midnight. Seth Shadowtheive smiled at his prey. A holy man would fetch a great reward from the dreaded Archon.

Here is a small visual update for you thread homies.

This is the raider's sail but on the other side, the pyramid is a ziggurat of shaa-dom and the eye is the eye of Cyrax.

Here is a close up shot of dust and dirt build up on the edges of the raider and the various rusted, leaking battle scars on the front.

A rather elusive and brooding shadowseer W.I.P picture. Just to keep the punters happy. She's very well painted and I am very proud of this piece so far. Sucky picture however...

And lastly a rather half baked guardian colour scheme I am working on for a friend of mine. It's a shame he'll soon have a date with a rather poisoned splinter...

Oh and here is my 1000pt army list...

HQ:

Cyrax K'oviac The Scarab Prince

Archon with huskblade, soul trap, shadowfield and webway portal.

Elites:

The Mirage Court of Cegorach

7 Harlequins, two with harlequin kisses, two with fusion pistols,
Troupe Master Kefka and Shadowseer Penumbra.

Troops:

Dawn's Touch

8 Kabalite Warriors with Blaster

Blazing Wrath
Raider with disintegrator cannon and flickerfield.

Dusk's Embrace
8 Kabalite Warriors with Blaster

Chilling Grace
Raider with disintegrator cannon and flickerfield.

Fast Attack:

The Black Locusts
5 Hellions led by Helliarch Malice armed with a splinter pistol and agoniser.

The Bleak Brethren
5 Hellions led by Helliarch Grimm armed with a hellglaive.

Heavy Support:

Son of Shaimesh
Ravager with 3 dark lance and flickerfield.

998 Points.

Shadowseer looks good, for such a blurry photo Seems like it should fit in with the rest of the squad while having a splash of Harlequin.

I've just been filling in time when I get home from art school. It keeps my brush skills up to form.

The raider looks pretty awesome next to some of those sleek looking tau armies. I mean, they are exiled from Commorragh and their only way of getting new gear is to rock up and steal it. Besides that raider is a sacred relic, many have been dragged away on it to their dooms. Quite often, the prince takes delight in hanging off the side of it to war. I see the look of total surprise on my enemies face when he realizes he shot the wrong gun ship down...

lol. If that is the case perhaps you should add some haemoculi to your list. Then you could get another 3 webway portals in for a total of 4 portals to pop out of! (laughs manaically)

This 1000pt project is slowly heading its way to 2000. Haemonculi with webway portals and wracks for taking objectives? Yes please.

How about six webway portals to make a 22" impassable line?

How are the harlequins running in game? I've struggled to find a place for them in the DEldar codex.

Yeah foxtale has got the right idea. The wracks can even be incorperated in the fluff pretty easily. The egyptians had slaves that built pyramids for them, why cant the scarab prince have captured vect folllowers to accompany him on his raids?

The Scarab Prince Corsairs: A Kabal Hell Bent On The Fall Of Vect @ 2011/03/15 05:42:16

Post by: InventionThirteen

Yeah that is what I was thinking, the haemonculi being like slave drivers. The harlequins are terrifying my regular opponents. I think they've been built into something more than they are.

I have a lot of luck with the harlequin kisses rending, which always helps. The flip belts are mint if you deploy the webway close to cover. Also the hellions deploy the same way most of the time, they just fly right over the top. I've found that speed more than makes up for fragility. A raider full of incubi is going to take a solid hiding, and they are expensive to run. Incubi deploying by webway would be cool. Basically in my list, the harlies have replaced them. For fluff reasons and the fact that my old army used to run a ten man unit of incubi and with the new dex I wanted to change things up a bit. Many opponents that hear I play a dark eldar army pack their squads full of anti-tank dakka, first mistake. They then shoot my raiders down where I want them, mobile cover? Yes please. It's like shaking a wasp hive. Out comes angry rapid firing bastards clad in bone, Cyrax the Prince himself and with him comes a big blue bubble that spits death where I want it.

If I'm going to play aggressively I take flickerfields, as they are good up close. If I'm planning to do a second turn rush I will take nightshields and shoot from afar, moving only to deploy the portal. All a themed army changes are your tactics. You can win with the above list. I've now modified it to have less warriors, and a second unit of harlies. Try keeping an objective on the last turn from those quick dudes.

Great tactics. Those will be useful once I get playing larger point games. I love the imagery of 'shaking a wasp hive'.

You don't spend years in the webway following the voice of Cegorach in your head without picking up a few mad hit and run tactics! Haha but in all seriousness you'll work out ways of playing your own army.

How's the chronos? I tried one once and I found it a little disappointing. I didn't get one token out of the thing!

The Scarab Prince Corsairs: A Kabal Hell Bent On The Fall Of Vect @ 2011/03/15 11:26:38

Post by: Foxtale

The chronos has almost never disappointed (and the one time was against a Trygon). I either run it up a flank or send it out through the webway. The webway is best, I find.

I usually get about 3-5 pain points in a game from it, which go into my Wyches (Furious Charge is NASTY with +1S drugged up girls), Wracks, Talos, Chronos and Incubi. I often find myself running out of targets to give pain points to.

I give it all the upgrades and find that a chronos, deployed from a webway, will kill at least 1 MEQ or weaker with each of its guns, every turn. Both Spirit guns are very powerful because of their AP3.

Awesome, maybe I'll add one. Convert it from a tomb kings scorpion or something. That'd fit right in.

It's getting pretty close to the release date for the plastic kits (both the new Tomb Kings Scorpion and of the Talos/Chronos kit). Might be worth waiting to see what they both look like.

Personally I can hardly wait. I want to build another two pain engines and run a Chronos and two CCW-Heatlance-Razorflail Taloi with webway delivery.

The plastic tomb kings release sounds like it'll give you a lot of thematic bitz to play with. (Scorp, Bone Giant, Tomb Guard.)

Did someone say Hellions? Here's the first finished one. Oh except the blade in his hand, i'll need to make that metal.

I tried to keep it original and very Cegorach inspired. The Scarab Prince Corsairs value their hellions as kabal members. Many hellions aspire to join the corsairs in their exiled plight and see it as a challenge and the anarchistic attitude of the war band couldn't fit their ideals better. This guy is called "Judge" by his pairs and more often than not a verbal fight has ended with a swift beheading or knife in the back when he is around. Watch your mouth!

Torrent skies, blood shall rain,
Eternal life, for fallen Khaine,
Brother, sister, eternal pain,
Colour of deliverance, in vein,
Cegorach, his mouth, insane,
Where he walks, moon shall wane,
Death whispers, nothing more to gain,
Scarab Prince has come to reign.

Wow, that first image of the Sphinx looked pretty awful (the one where they're riding it. ._.) But seeing its other forms, how amazing would that chest piece and death mask be for a Talos conversion?

I'm also really impressed with the Tomb Guard, and I'm already wondering how I'm going to use their weapons and shields. Perhaps with Incubi, or maybe with Banshees? I just don't know!

How many of those vultures will we need to collect for Razorwings???

The gun pods sort of clip into the brace so you can in theory if you leave them unglued, remove them. Then you get a raider...

After playing through six games now with a revised list that includes two units of harlequins, I must say when deployed out of a web-way portal they can be absolutely devastating.

The ability to ignore cover grants some sick kills through terrain should the cowards hide from their wrath.

Add a shadowseer and their main weakness (bolter fire and the equivalent) soon becomes a lot less of a threat due to veil of tears.

Winning combat and crushing the remaining, barely living foes, is all the more easier with their furious charge ability.

Hey presto, rending weapons for as many as I can fit in a list...

Free power weapon with my troupe masters? Yes please. Watch them carve the enemy into the likeness of Cegorach.

Did someone say melta? Yeah two melta pistols per troupe.

All this gets hit and run? And 5+ Invulnerable saves?

Who wouldn't take them?! That in itself would be madness.

true, but then you have the ability to drop a webway portal just about anywhere on the board that you like. That in itself is a major advantage over regular Eldar who cannot do the same, why they can't do this i don't know. Still the fact of the matter is that Harlequins in an Eldar army have to go the rough route which is to slog their way across the board and keep to terrain as much as possible, meanwhile the enemy just keeps moving his units away from them, making them useless. The only other alternative is to load them into a wave serpent/w star engines and vectored engines, then jump across the table as fast as you can, so that next turn your harlies can spill out the back of the thing and do their job. Me personally, I'd rather have the webway portal, even if my Eldar would be limited to just 1 of the blasted things, it would help immensely.

I was referring to their effectiveness in a dark eldar list. I'm pretty sure the eldar will get a wwp when a newer codex is written. It seems silly that they don't have it. I play an eldar opponent regularly and to be honest, I fear howling banshees. He doesn't use them... I think they'd easily shut down harlequins with their masks effects. The shadowseer should help their squishyness somewhat. WWP is an essential tool and fits the fluff perfectly. Why wouldn't dudes that live in the webway use a portal?

I appologise for the lack of photos, my camera decided it hates the new memory card... Much to my anger... Nevermind, Cyrax had his day.

The game was really brutal from the get go as most Planetstrike games are. We played a simple planetfall mission with my corsairs as the attacker and an allied force of deathguard and craftworld eldar (Their temporary alliance makes more sense in the fluff below.) I won the game simply by tabling my two opponents and leaving them agasp. The dice gods or perhaps Cegorach was on my side and every unit arrived on time where I wanted them save the hellions who decided, like the memory card to refuse to co-operate.

Fuegan released his grip on the rail to the ancient imperial bastion, leaping to the ground, the sand around his landing turning to glass.

The raider smashed into the top balcony sending shards of rockcrete and steel flying into the guardians below. Cyrax K'oviac gathered his cloak around him and activated his shadowfield, darkness enveloped his form as he flipped over the edge and into the survivors beneath him. Bone crunched beneath his boots as the melee swirled around him into a storm of bloodshed.

Seth Shadowtheive kicked the dead gunner from the front of the raider, the impact having killed him. Through the smoking haze he spotted Fire Dragons moving to their position, he charged the disintegrator and let loose, white hot plasma melting armour and flesh before him.

Ometh ordered his squad to fire, all eight of them took up their arms and let loose a hail of poisoned shards that filled the air with a thick toxic haze. A loud crack burst the air as a bolter round hit him square in the shoulder plate and exploded. Ometh hit the sand and was caught on the chains beneath his kabalite raider as it moved to another position.

Cursed Brother Khaon rounded the corner of the bastion as his shot hit the alien and sent him flying from his stance on the deck of the vehicle. As the eldar fought off their shadows, he would take a vital objective from beneath the compound. Several poisoned shots hit bare, rotting flesh but the poison was not strong enough to fight through his diseased system. He could taste blood from the assault that took place on his arrival, biting the throat out of an alien was a first for him and the taste made him mad with war lust.

Cyrax stood on a mound of bodies, his hands clasped around an ancient huskblade and his head lowered as he bathed in the released souls of his enemies. His concentration soon returned as Ometh landed in the bloodstained puddle in front of him. The kabalite was struggling to get up, one arm missing, his shoulder a smoking wreck. The Archon kicked his skull in and cut the remaining hand off the corpse, placing it in a self cooled pouch at his waist. He released a small black globe from his belt and threw it to the ground.

Through the portal gates Kefka could see the bright realm of real space. From a small unit in his ear came a voice that crawled and thrashed around his mind. The time had come for his troupe to serve the Laughing God and his chosen champion.

Fuegan killed another of the harlequins that came at him, decapitating him with a swing of his fire axe, the heat boiling the blood before it hit the sand. His true enemy revealed himself only for a brief second and his mistake was made more apparent as Fuegan struck out at the Archon, knocking him down his shadowfield dissipating. Just as the Archon took to his feet, Kefka kicked out at Fuegan, hitting him in the jaw, before his blade could hit the Phoenix Lord again Fuegan was gone. He simply vanished before the troupe master's eyes. Cyrax glared at the young harlequin for driving off his enemy before revenge could be made.

Seth placed the flag of the Scarab Prince upon the crude imperial fortress and looked down over the smoking battlefield. This place would do until they felt the need to move again. Something caught his eye, a large shape tracking over the sand dunes to the east carrying a large box upon it's shoulders. Curiosity took him.

Seth adjusted the robe around the fit of his ghost plate, tying the cloth in place. The armour was just precaution, he was more than capable of killing one of the miscreants should they get out of line.

A dagger strapped to his left leg, two on his right, two pistols around his waist and his splinter rifle over his shoulder. That should be enough he thought to himself.

"Shadowtheive, you've arrived on time, follow me." Seth turned in the direction of the voice, a trueborn stood in the pose of an aristocrat, arrogance plain as white.

He followed Tharoe Serenus down the vast hall and through the large doors, decorated in the mark of the scarab. Inside he found thirteen nobles dressed in black sitting around a vast crescent moon shaped table. They rose as he bowed, best bow while you have your head. House Serenus may claim that they are content with the K'oviac rule but the Kabalites all know that should the chance present itself they'd see the Archon destroyed. Rumour had it the squad that escorted him to war was made of every third born son of Khaleth himself and their armour was fitted with a collar of thorns. Should their thoughts wander to his destruction, the collars would tighten and they would choke.

Seth wanted to choke every Serenus. He did not care for their pathetic rituals and ancient ways. Vect had changed all of that. Not that he cared much for Vect either, his lineage swore a denial of his slave beginnings.

"Sybarite, you are to meet with the Baron Sathonyx, do you know of him? He is a distasteful, up start bastard. You'll probably enjoy his company. The Scarab Prince requested you. I suggested Tharoe, as he is far more capable. Perhaps the dread Archon hopes you will die this evening?" Spoke an ancient and venerable shape. No doubt it was Lokaan, the first true son of Khaleth.

"As you will it, it will be Dracon." Replied Shadowtheive, he hid his contempt for the weak old fool.

The Scarab Prince has struck a deal with the Baron. I'm just waiting on the resin model to come out. Shouldn't be too long I hope.

So my local gaming store is having a sale and well, I can't resist and I've ordered some more hellions. I plan to convert my own version of the baron.

His talents are beyond the level of most, borderline supernatural. His hands have held the still beating hearts of mortals and his body remains youthful from the taste of blood.

Nemesis rides to war upon his skyboard and the sky is blotted out by the shapes of speeding punks and miscreants.

Death rides to war.

I figured it would serve as a trophy rack. My hellions are more like a tribe of dark eldar, living on planet Backdraw and living off what they can steal. I want the army to have a desperate nomadic appearance.

He's the top guy cause he killed to get there and is the smartest and toughest. Under his helmet is a fully tattooed face that tells of his life time a little like a Maori Moko. I wish I had a paintbrush small enough to pull that off... But for now he has a helmet!

Hello crazy dark elf alien nasty lovers!

Over the next five weeks I have no uni and the employment rate in my country is so low that it's not even funny.

So what does one art student (soon to be a practising artist) do?

He gets off his lazy behind and gets his awesome melt your face metal loving eqyptian friendly badass army completed.

The new list is as follows and I will post each squad as they are completed.

Baron Sathonyx (Nemesis)

6 Hellions with helliarch and agoniser

6 Hellions with helliarch and stunclaw

6 Hellions

8 Kabalites with a shredder and raider

8 Kabalites with a shredder and raider

5 Scourges with solarite and haywire launcher

1 beastmaster with 2 razorwing flocks

1 Ravager with 3 dark lances

Yep sick of other players getting the drop on me early and ripping me to shreds.

Think of it as some sort of air born raiding force, mad maxish and desperate.

Sweeet thank you! Got two pictures for you, one of a further WIP of my shadowseer and one of the hellions, I have a fair few pictures still to go so I'll try again tomorrow morning as its getting late!

The Hellion is Malice, her name is long since forgotten, she is known for her daring acts of brutality and her thirst for human suffering. This pict capture is from the Jhournus Massacre, picturing her just after soul feeding.

Yes, very nice Shadowseer. I like the grenade launchers, and the diamond pattern. Did you paint each diamond individually?

@Divine Comedy Cheers mate!

@Foxtale Yeah I painted each diamond individually, I didn't want a uniform look to them so some are larger than others and at different angles, I wanted to try capture the look of the domino field shifting and moving around.

@jelrik Thank you for your comments they're inspiring. The purple is made up of several layers of warlock purple washed with leviathan and then highlighted with a 50/50 of warlock purple and skull white.

@Vanq Yeah tried to make her eyes really dark around the edges and bright clinical white in the center. She's high on pain and combat drugs me thinks.

This image is a little blurry but heres some detailing on my second raider, the troops on board are expert slavers so they have loaded it with hooks and chains.

The second raider has a toned down and simple sail design with the all seeing eye and the cross of division.

Runes of swift death and an ankh for immortality. Yum. Oh and it looks like this raider has had a few collisions. (My guess is that it's hit the earth on a few occasions, my fellow DE Archons would agree, they like to wreck a lot.)

Best thing is because there is nothing to a Raider, they are easy to fix and get back into the air lol

Sail detail is very nice, great mix of colours...characterful as always

"You, child of the corpse god... Stand before me, let me see your face. Yes I see... you have strong will."

A tall armored form held a struggling human in a vice grip around it's throat, studying it as a subject with both interest and the stance of a predator.
Archon Cyrax K'oviac dropped the man to the floor, standing on the human's hand, pinning him.

"Their army was prepared for our arrival, it seems that some were less than subtle about their treachery. They are dead."

A second armored form had entered the room, Kanuthutet the Prophet had made his arrival, flanked by his lieutenants, Seth and Lhare. Kanuthutet moved to a small table
in the center of the room and deposited three eldar heads, their tongues cut out and their eyes removed. He offered six small round objects to the Archon on his open palms.

"That is why I sent you Kanuthutet, you do as your told. Oh and you bring me exquisite gifts too... Oh yes, these are lovely, such vibrant colours"

Cyrax rolled the crystallized eyes around in his hands, taking in every glinting detail. Traitors made great decorations. Now they would look upon him for eternity.

"Only the finest for our lord and master, dread Archon. There are around seven score slaves that I wish to offer your pick of also."

To back up his Dracon's promise, Lhare produced a bag full of enemy dog tags and piled them onto the table.

"I have no need of flesh, there are many already, I can not count them. I want their eyes. When they are taken, break them. You are dismissed from here."

The troops bowed and left the throne room. Cyrax moved to the viewing bay at the head of his quarters and gazed out into the bleakness of space, all the stars and all the lives, he could feel them. When he could no longer hear the boots of his subjects, he moved to the captive as the human struggled to stand. He offered him a hand, balancing the wounded man against his own weight, he moved the near dead captive to a lounge and lay him upon it.

"I have gazed into the dead eyes of countless mortals and seen fear, oh sweet fear. But you, you have nerve, you have resolve. I like it. I shall keep you, yes they will knit you back together... See those stars out there? They are eyes. The galaxy watches us kill and maim and rape everything and it laughs. Cegorach would find this situation amusing. Yes I can see the smile out there. There is no faith, no hope for humanity, you are all doomed like we are. We accept our fate and we bring our own upon you. Some day the universe will be destroyed and we will yet still live on. We live forever! We see all, I will see all and life will gaze upon my throne. The same throne the weakling slave has now, I will break him, I will kill him and reap him of his soul. He will join the countless, I will have his eyes and he will see my rise."

The captive stirred and dragged himself off the lounge and across the floor away from the Archon, trying desperately to block the sound of a thousand voices laughing. Manic, torturous laughter ripped through the air.

THREADOMANCY.

You all love it really.

Okay so here goes, my camera is charging for my next installment of mad max, freemen, hellion massed corsairs!

I am a week away from a BDVA and it has been a real killer to the hobby front but a necessary evil and as I am now committed to the job hunting front I now find myself with an insane amount of spare time.

So what does one evil Archon with time on his hands do? He gets busy building the rest of his real space raiding fleet so he can take apart space marines in a torture chamber.

Can you hear that? It sounds like small jet engines and crazy voices...

Alright folks, I've been a busy guy completing my degree in Design and Visual arts and working my backside off to earn the dollar.

However as I was recently made redundant, I have been given the gift of time.

I've been slaughtering and enslaving the imperiums finest over the past year or so and a few of my friends have recently started the hobby.

They've said it better than I could "Ash, your miniatures are good and you're painting skills are above average. You can not teach or motivate us to paint if you don't maintain that blog of yours. You owe it."

So here you go, the first image of many, expect the full unit of scourges, finished hellions, a succubi and a lot more in the days to follow.

Looking good! glad your back.

Godd for you, your friends taking up the hobby. most of my old gaming buddies have quitthe hobby .

@Scrazza Did they quit due to the price hikes, age or other commitments? It's a great hobby to be into with lots of support. I've had a few friends move to it from Magic The Gathering so it was a nice transition for our regular gaming group.

@Dragon Warrior Thanks for your feedback, much appreciated.

I now present Kalea The Cruel

After witnessing her skills during an arena match, Cyrax was much impressed and made his intentions more than clear that she was to accompany his Kabal on their real space raids.

She has served the Kabal as a sort of second in command, often leading the Scarab Prince Corsairs on smaller raids to recover slaves, and as her name suggests, most slaves arrive back to the ships scarred both mentally and physically from the ordeals she puts them through as the Lady of the Chains.

They look really good my only point would be that the bases look very similar to the armour that there isn't really a contrast between the two, maybe put a couple of washes on it? Other than keep doing what you're doing it looks great

Mixture I guess. Some out of price hikes, on of them went to the army, and the rest grew out of it.

Nice update!
