I've been hanging around for a couple of months now, back on Dakka after a very long absence from the hobby. (6-7 years)
I made my first purchase of modelling supplies a couple of days ago. Some Tamiya and Vallejo paints. ($45 for a can of primer and 6 paints.) o_O
And then took apart an old, badly painted bolter marine, and hit him with a quick coat of tamiya spray primer. Now going to try and decide on a color scheme for my Iron Hands sucessor chapter.
I know, nothing really exciting yet. But its a start. If my local GW has a box of Iron Hands I may pick that up next payday. (Just over a week from now.)
Other than that, its going to be dissasembling old minis for parts and making do with what I have on hand as the money slowly rolls in. This will probably transition to a Grey Knights blog once they are released.

I will be keeping an eye on this thread

Some of the detail is obscured, as I didn't strip the mini, and this is more just to mess around with paint for the first time in....... ages.
The tamiya blue paint leave a definate gloss finish. Will def need some dullcoat/matt varnish to tone it down.
Looking forward to getting my hands on some of the weathering powders and washes. That will have to wait untill I can get some more $$. I forogt just how far a couple of drops of paint can cover. :-)

Looking goos so far , although it is slightly hard to tell from the picture , i would be sure to use some dullcoat to take the shine off of te blue. Also what weathering powders will you be using Forgeworld ?
Nice work so far ~UnDeAd~

Post by: wolfshadow
Probably not forgeworld. There is a local hobby shop run by a freind of my family that I will be buying from. It will be whatever he carries. I saw a few pigments/poweres that he carried. Again, not sure I'm keeping this color scheme. I like the blue but it is way glossy.
I'll hit GW for some colors that he doesnt carry, the big ones being the sepia and badab black washes, along with bleached bone.
This guy probably wont make it into my force... But I just had to get some paintning in. I'm already fining it much easeir to deal with detail work than when I left the hobby.

Welcome back. I came back after an extended break as well. There's a surprising number of us (old timers that came back) popping up these days, I see threads all over Dakka from them. We should all get together and talk about what brought us back.
Looking forward to seeing your work.

They need to be dulled down a bit, but for average squaddies, I'm not totally unhappy with these guys.
I especially like the converted chaos dude, with the chainmail and the helmet.
Was nice to spend some time working with the exacto knife and the paintbrush for the first time in 7 years.

A comment on your photography- it's dark. Even the lighter pictures are dark. Not sure what advice to offer except maybe reposition the lamp or something.

It will probably be an Iron Hands Sucessor Chapter. Not sure what iconography it will use.
They will have close ties to the Adeptus Mechanicus, lots of techmarines and dudes with bionics. HQs will probably be a MOTF, and either a Libby or a Captain. If the Iron Hands ever get another rule set or spec charachter, I'd probably use him. I'm contemplating, fluff wise, them being a SM force accompanying a Ad-Mech search fleet on a 'crusade'/STC search.
Def planiing a Thunderfire Cannon or 2 in there, and possibly a SM superheavy based off of the Turrets Machinator is working on.
Most of those pics were taken really late last nigh with a desk lamp. Will see if I can get some more pics up today in more natural light.
Cheers.

Welcome back to the hobby how do you find painting miniatures with the tamiya's? i only ever used them on vehicles and found it slow going because of the drying times.
430
Post by: wolfshadow
If you thin tamiya down with water, drying time isnt too bad. The big thing is to work with small amounts and thin it out. I find it takes 2-3 drops of tamiya paint to cover pretty much a whole mini. And tamiya is cheap. $3.25 a bottle. Although its only a 10ml bottle...
If your airbrushing, thin it down with some alcohol. Its tack dry almost on contact if you have a thin enough coat.
More progress:
God, I cant wait untill my holiday pay comes in and I can buy some new minis as opposed to repainting.
35065
Post by: Calibanite Lion
Yeah,i buy them for because they have better colours for them, and at £1.50 a jar they are a 3rd cheaper than gw paints.
430
Post by: wolfshadow
I'd recommend getting a high % Isopropyl alcohol to thin tamiyas if working with any quantity. No good for thinning small amounts as it dries too quick. IIRC, GW paints dont react well to alcohol thinning. They used to get all gummy on me.

Post by: Calibanite Lion
I always buy thinners with them, it should also say i only use tamiya on vehicles, stupid keyboard must have missed that out lol

Nice thread.
I have also had an absence from the hobby. I was with friends when walking past GW local store and they siad they wanted to start an army choas/necrons and they both spent about £200 to get a small force. I just went in the cupboard and got out my space marines, 13,000 points and counting - all of which i am re-painting.
also i only use GW paints, so it's great to read up on guys using others. keep up the good work.

Coming along nicely mate, I also have used tamiya paints in the past but mainly on Resin models, I find it tacs better to the resin than the GW or Army Painter posts do, but I've always found it too thick on the models I lose detail to quick and again the drying times has always held me back as well.
That said my only source for the stuff until recently was a Toy store and they did not sell the Alcohol based thinners which is probably where all my issues stemmed from.
Keep em coming!

TY Santobell. Most of the Tamiya stuff thins fine with water. I work with tiny amounts on a plastic lid thinned down with a drop or two of water from my brush cleaning cup. (If the waters not too dirty.) The alcohol is more for when it gets old and is starting to thicken up, or if you are airbrushing. If you think with alcohol when airbrushing, it dries super fast... almost as fast as you can get it on the model, if your working under bright, incandescent light from a desk lamp.

I tend to get fixated on forums once I become a member, and Dakka has such a wonderful scope of topics to discuss and comment on. Between here and my Gaming clan forums (Which I moderate), the forums for the computer games that I play, and a couple of other wargaming forums I can generally kill a 12 hour shift @ work with little to no problem.

Thats the lighting indeed. Not sure why that pic the paint looks so dark. But thats the color I'm going for... almost a midnight blue. Once I get my hands on some black wash we shall see how things go. I'm using Tamiya royal blue over light grey tamiya spray primer.
And the night lordish look is pretty much what I'm going for. Except my guys are loyalist.
Prob going to get some sort of ChapterHouse shoulder pad for them, but not sure which one.
I need a "Hand" or "Gauntlet" name for them if I want to use Iron Hands pads.
Thanks for the comments folks. :-)

THngs have been pretty quiet for me modelling wise the past couple of days. But I'm working on a pretty big trade that could end up with SIGNIFICANT renforcements for my battle brothers.
Now to decide on a Chapter Name.
Iron hands sucessor, somthing with either 'hands' or 'Gauntlet' in the name....
Obsidian Gauntlets?

Welcome back to the hobby. However, I see you need a name and, seeing your paint scheme, would like to suggest the Cobalt Fists (fists works better than hands for me on that one) or the Steel Gauntlets. It might just be me, but I figure Steel should be the natural successor to Iron. Steel Brothers, perhaps, using their parent chapter's symbol to show a continued allegiance to the Iron Hands and the pact with the Adeptus Mechanicus

I'm really low on supplies (6 paints, and a can of spray primer and some plastic glue) , so no washes yet. Hopefully I'll be able to pick up some supplies on Wed or Thursday. Hence why everything is still WIP.
I'm hoping to pick up a box of IH, and some paints at the local GW, and some major re-enforcements in the nature of a pretty major swap with another Dakka member.
Really need some dullcoat (Purity seal) to dull down the minis too.

Post by: wolfshadow
Well, no modelling updates as of yet. Hopefully that will change tomorrow and thursday.
Tomorrow I'm hoping to pick up an Iron Hands box @ the local GW. Thursday, I'm hoping to complete a major trade that will significantly augment my chapters combat abilities.
Anyhow, a bit of fluff. I've tossed a few ideas around. This is what I've come up with so far:
Background Chapter: Ebon Gauntlets
Sucessor Chapter to the Iron Hands Space Marines, they follow the Codex Astartes, but have a significantly higher % of marines that have visible cybernetic Augmetics, as they have some of the same reverence for the Omnissah that their parent chapter does.
The Ebon Gauntlets are a fleet based chapter, who recruit on worlds that they campaign on, with particularly noteworthy members of the PDFs and sometimes particularly brave members of the Imperial Guard that they have fought with are offered the chance to test to undergo the process of becoming a Space Marine. They are Fleet Based, as their homeworld was destroyed by a Necron incursion, wiping out their Fortress Monestary, and causing heavy losses to the reserve companies of the Chapter, which they have still not recovered from.
As such, the Chapter has a virulent hatred for the Necrontyr, and will sometimes divert away from whatever their current primary mission is to destroy any Necrontyr forces they may encounter. Their hatred of the Necrontyr has resulted in a fairly cordial relationship with the Ordo Xenos of the Inquisition, with many Veteran Marines serving with the DeathWatch, and almost all members of the chapter command structure, Librarians, Chaplains, and line Command Staff have served in the DeathWatch at one time or another, and many still wear the DeathWatch shoulder pad to honor that service. Many veterans still use the Ancient DeathWatch pattern bolters in their tireless fight against the Xenos threats to the Imperium.
The Chapter has ancient ties still with the Ordo Mechanicus, and the Chapter has a higher than average number of Techmarines. The Master Of the Forge frequently sees direct combat, overseeing operations and maintaining watch on the # of Dreadnuaghts and Thunderfire Cannons that the Chapter fields.
They also maintain an ancient SuperHeavy Fellblade tank that they TechMarines will, on dire need, remove it from Stasis, and field it from their primary Battle Barge.

After a pretty massive trade witha fellow Dakkaite, I now have more than enough models to keep me going for a while. I placed an order with maxmini for some Bionic bitz, and I'm hoping to order a box or 2 of Iron Hands from GW at some point, which aside for a tank or 2, should leave me in pretty good shape for this army, with plenty of bitz left over.
I'm really hoping that they give us a plastic Libby at some point. That would make for some nice conversion/kitbash possbilites.
If the wife hasnt hijacked the camera, hopefully I'll have soem pics later on today.

He's a kitbash from some De-chaos'd CSM. One of my first test minis for the scheme. I really liked the PF, but also really liked his bolt pistol, which closely resembles a DW patter bolter. Hes posed looking down the sights/tageter of the BP shooting at somthing. Having the PF upwards without bending the arm looked kind of silly. Basically he was from parts that I wanted to use but only had a few available. Not sure if he's going to stay put together at all. He may be 'sacrificed' for the benifit of the imperium. (IE used for parts.)
I'm not sure where I got those MK1 helmets. I think I might have either bitz ordered them or bought an Iron Warriors box or somthing. They are metal.
Anyone point out where they are from. I bought them so long ago I don't remember.

Not yet. Prob something to do with sand and rocks, as I live right next to a beach and basing materials are free.
My last ones were pretty simply done with PVA and sand.
I want to get my hands on some cork for 'rock' but TBH, it migh just be easier to go down to the beach and pick up some real rocks.
EDIT: Anyone have any ideas on how to do a Psychic hood from plastic? I'm going to do my Libby out of a plastic kitbash, prob with one of those bloody awsome new Kromlech Kopesh' for a force weapon. I really dont like most of the metal libbys.

You might experiment with colors and textures. The right base with colors that compliment/contrast the figure can really make it stand out. I don't think my figures would look anywhere near as good as they do without the basing system I cooked up.
I'm not suggesting you use MY basing system mind you... but I think considering carefully how the base will interact with the figure can make a big difference in the overall effect.
430
Post by: wolfshadow
Oh, I definately will contemplate the basing scheme. I may hold off on basing for a while so I can figure out a scheme once I have the budget for some decent basing supplies. I dont even have any PVA glue on hand at the moment.
And I really am stoked to get into converting/modding some minis, but so much of that is on hold waiting for bitz and ordered stuff to arrive in the mail. Even my 2 IH boxes from GW haven't arrived yet.

Just read your exchange on basing and I will say that if there's any doubt, don't base them. I do not dislike the flock I used for my Death Guard, but by the standards miniatures are judged by now I have been found wanting by a few people. The only reason I'm not doing something else is that the flock I have on my miniatures right now if the same flock I made back in 1995 and have maybe 4 lbs of it still. My IG, Genestealer Cult, Death Guard, Orks, Orcs & Goblins, and more are all flocked wiht the same stuff. It's not terrible, but it's not what I would be doing right now if I didn't already have 1/2 my army on it. Waiting until you *know* that is what you want will make you a lot happier over the years.

Doesn't look like you prime them before you paint them... if not, you should.

Post by: wolfshadow
I prime them. Using either GWs spray or Tamiya Spray. Only thin with paint on the Libby is the head, which was primed seperately. (On the little stand thingie..) Also, some of the older models were swaps and primed by other people. Oh and the torso came out of my bitz box preprimed. I think that whole sprue was preprimed GW skull white.
The one pic of the tactical marine is really picking up some file marks on the leg that dont really show up at anywhere close to tabletop distance.
And I really need to pick up some more paint colors. Some tin bitz, gold and sepia wash are a definate need.
Looking at the tac marine now, I need to hit the pad with some gunmetal to bring it back up a bit... The pad with the fist on it is too dark. I might switch that to chainmail wshed with black instead of boltgun... Have to try it once I get some chainmail paint.

Looking great Wolfshadow. The head painter was genius. and the shoulderpad for the librarian looks really good, where did you get the pipe things for around his chest?
THe deathwatch marine looks good too, though I was told with my own DW that their whole left arm is painted silver

He's no longer Deathwatch though, he's returned to the Chapter after Deathwatch service. They just wear the Pad to honor thier time spent in the DeathWatch.
The Cables are, IIRC, some 1/35 scale tow cable that I had sitting in my model toolbox for some reason. They've prob been in that toolbox for the better part of 10 years, since my Dad died. Most of my tools were his.
Still trying to figure out how I'm going to tie them into the backpack then out to his yet to be constructed Force weapon. (Prezmas... It looks like the Omnissiah is displeased with my efforts thus far. The curse of the Machine God is upon me. Both my home PC and my Digicam are pretty much borked. PC is wear and tear. Wife damaged the Camera and I can't seem to get it to work. Which sucks as I started work on the Libby's paintjob for the body at least. Along with a SternGaurd vet armed with a Combi-Melta.

That... might be a while. Not that I won't have completed models, but with the Computer and the Digicam not working....
On the other hand, if the Computer isnt working, more time to work on models. :-) (Gotta find the upside in everything)
What do you guys think of modelling SternGaurd Vet SGTs with a Combi-Boltter and a Servor arm to represent a PF? They have the smae rules, combat wise.... Would fit the fluff for my guys having larger than normal #s of Techmarines.

Not much, but some. Work was busy, so despite 2 12 hours shifts, I wasnt able to get much done. Did get some paint on the Libby WIP, and a SternGuard vet with Combi-Melta partly done.
And One more piece of the puzzle. Przemas from Maxmini sucessfully got me my order
So I now have a CRAPTON of Resin Bionics to convert with.

Nice work, they're coming together slowly
That's .. a big sword. What kind of size are the chain blades? I'm looking at getting some different chain weapons for another project of mine. Is Maxmini good to deal with?
430
Post by: wolfshadow
The Chain blades are... to put it mildly, HUGE. The big chainblade is easily the height of a marine. Could be used to represent a Relic blade or an eviscerator easily.
Quality of the bitz is excellent, minimal flash. Details on the Bionic heads are fantastic, well beyond my ability to really do justice to at this point.
If you just want chain blades, IIRC, you put what you want in the comment field of your order, and they are willing to ship you specific ones.
When I get home, I'll put a tactical marine next to one of each of the swords so you can see how big they are.
Based on this order, I'll definately be ordering from Maxmini again.
At this point I'm waiting on some more paint colors, and possibly some weathering pigments before I can call stuff 'done'.
Depending on how much $ I get for Xmas, I might order the DeathWatch conversion kit. I'm gonna get raped on the conversion rates for GWE though. :-(

I now have a nice fixed point of reference for taking pics. I rest the camera on my desk to take it. Lighting tends to be my biggest issue. Probably because I end up taking my pics @ 2am, and I havent figured out how to over-ride the camrea and have the flash kick on even if the camera thinks there is enough light.
And I still have 3 more packages incoming. 2 Trades, and a Chapterhouse package.
I need Green Stuff, more paint, and some weathering pigments, and I should be good to go indefinately after all that comes in.... or once the Maxmini SteamPunk weapons are released. Automatically Appended Next Post: Head of Libby WIP, ready to be glued to body

Your army is looking good and I like all the Tech your adding to your marines. I can't wait until my Red Corsairs Destroys your chapter and takes that Tech off their bones. Huron could use more bionics.
BTW whats the name of your Master of the Forge? I have a Dreadnought sarcophagus for his broken body that needs a name.
Little friendly advice for the Ebon Guard. Stay clear of the Maelstrom, and you Chapter will strive.
...
At first I had a hard time with taking photos. Few pointers: Light, lots of light. If you can, use a piece of paper to set your white balance. Tripods and timers. At least make sure you use the timer feature. That way you dont have to hold it and the camera doesn't move when taking the photo. If it's a dark model use a light background, vise versa. Lastly and one of the most important steps: Editing Software. I use Photoshop but there are other really great free editing programs out there. All I do is crop, Auto levels, Auto colour, Auto contrast. Save, done.
That being said can we see a group photo of you army together. I'm not sure I can wait to see it in person.

Maybe you can De-chaos a iron warriors warsmith or something like that for your MOTF. IIRC it does not have that many wires and where that is lacking maybe look into getting some guitar string of the thicker variety to Create your own wires. I had done something similar to make a Space marine captain, so i could attach a bolt pistol to his PF arm and gave me the free hand for an auspex, but unfortunately that mini is half a world away from me so i cannot get any pictures for it.

Hey man been looking at this thread of yours, i gotta say that your modelling is amazing, im not really one to talk about painting as im kinda av, but i would suggest some highlights on ur squaddies to lighten em up a bit, the whole thing just looks a bit dark, but again im not one to talk and thats just my opinion, great work tho
430
Post by: wolfshadow
I'm not partcularly good at edge highlighting, and I tend to f*** it up when I try, so for the moment I've held off on that. I'd prefer to be a bit more subtle and darken things down with washes rather than lighten them up with highligting. I may do some zenithal rather than edge highlighting at a later point, once my skill is up to it.
Things will also get weathered with weathering powders once I get some, and decide on a basing scheme.
Much of my limitations are supply based at the moment, as I'm getting back into the hobby on a VERY limited budget basis, with most of my purchases coming from trades. Model wise out of pocket cash purchases have been limited to my initial purchase of glue, several colors of paint and a can of spray primer. I really need some better brushes, some weathering pigments and some more colors of paint, especially blue shades for power weapons, and some more metallics for general use.

Its tiny compared to the commanders Combi-melta.
Thats a DeathWatch metal bolter, which are a bit on the small side compared to the plastic bolters.
The Combi-bit from CHS fits perfectly on the top of the bolter. Jsut had to chop of fthe front 2/3 of the targeter, and file the top of the bolter flat. Took about 2-3 minutes, with most of that being filing. If I had a dremel tool, prob would have taken about 30 seconds.

Thats from the flash of the camera... I'm using a small digicam, and if I don't use the flash, well.. then the pics aren't well lit enough. My photographic skills are definately just a WIP as my army

12 hour night shifts are a bonus point. Quiet enough that I can get some 'work' done....after about the first hour of paperwork it gets pretty boring.
I have all my bitz in a portable box, and I generally have a Rhino-sized box full of tools, and stuff on sprue to work with. Although I traded my last Rhino box, and had to use the AOBR box, which didnt work as well as it doesnt fit in my backpack well.
I'm going to be gunning for having at least a 1000 point force ready for 3 weeks from now.
I might even be able to get that up to 1500ish.
(Stuff on hand to paint: 2 Dreads, Predator, Whirly, Rhino, Razorback( TLLC), along with a whack of marines.)
Stuff on the way in trade: Vindy, Rhino, 5 scouts, Techmarine/Servo Harness....and various bitz/shoulderpads on order/incoming from trades.

You might try taping a couple of layers of wax paper over your flash, it acts as a pretty good diffuser without decreasing the light output too much.

Hrm.... time to check the kitchen. Not sure if we have any in the house though.
Thanks for the tip though Gits!

I learned a few tricks before I got my light box. Actually with my camera the opaque lid to a can of dullcoat fits perfectly over the flash and makes a great diffuser!

Thanks.
It's been a slow week for me modelling wise. But hopefully will pick up soon.
Got another trade in the mail. (Some scouts and a techmarine)
I went out in the freezing cold temps today and grabbed some supplies.
Some Sheet Styrene for converting supplies, along with some primer, and some milliput 2 part epoxy putty to attempt some sculpting. Hopefully its similar enough to GS that it will work.

From what I have heard, it works just as good, if not better, but then again that was in a differing area climate-wise, where we could just open a window and the 110 degree heat either helped the curing or melted your mini.

Ok... trying to get off my butt modelling wise.
I broke out the big brush, and got to work on some vehciles that were sitting around.
Not too exciting, but points wise, if I get everything here done progress wise, I'm in not too bad shape for fielding a legal tabletop army, with a few marines swapped around.

I'm not too keen on using Tamiya paints on miniatures, but I totally understand when it comes to costs. Your Tac squad looks good when its grouped together though, and the Chaplain looks pretty hard core too - nice head
What kind of basing will you be going for? For me its all about basing, brown or rocks would compliment your colour scheme I think.
Get that 1000 pts done!

WHats your problem with Tamiya? They've been around for ages and are great to work with.
Once I have n airbrush, they have a great range of colors, for fairly cheap.

I guess paint is a "YMMV" thing.
Keep up the painting, you should have a decent force here shortly.

I have been a lazy wolf this past week. Work, lack of sleep etc. But even on my days off, I just could not get inspire to work on my models.
Hopefully todays arrivals will help out.
More Heavy Support
Wheels for a Tac Squad
Termie Shoulder Pads... Though I'm not sure how I'm going to get these to work with AOBR termies... It may require extensive surgurey.
Hopefully tomorrw will bring some progress on the heavy support front.

What are you doing with the vindi? anything special?

Post by: wolfshadow
Nothing major planned. Its a trade, and it appears to be missing some parts. (Vindy crane and ammo, hatches etc...)
I should have enough hatches and accessories in my bitz box to finish him off. Also going to use some spares to create a Rhino hatch of my Razorback... I just wont glue the rear hatch on so I can pick and choose.
That would give me the follwoing vehicles:
2 Rhinos (1 RB possible) (Tac Squads)
1 Predator
1 Vindicator
1 Whirlwind (Rhino possible if I can come up with a rear Hatch)

I feel sorry for loyalist Meq, you guys cant kitbash your vehicles nearly as much as chaos can

Post by: wolfshadow
Yeah... I see what you mean. Although IH and sucessors get to KB a bit more than most. Lots of bionic bits.
And I've got a bit of a primer buzz going on.
Just hit the vindy with a coat of Krylon. Loving it. Great, fine primer for about 1/3 to 1/4 of the price of the GW crap, and the Krylon can comes with a nifty adjustable nozzle. Would totally recommend anyone switch to the Krylon primer. Great stuff, signifcantly easier to control how much you overspray due to the nozzle.

excellent might look into that
im so stoked with my chaos vehicles, ive got 3 rhino's a land raider a pred a defiler and a dread, and they all look so epic, youve seen most of em on my p&m thread

You should be able to use a hatch from a rhino if you have any spares. They are all the same really. If you really want the ammo loader thingy, you pay the postage and I'll send one. I dont like em, so I dont use em.

Post by: wolfshadow
Thanks for the offer Whalemusic, but I'm not set on having one. Not sure about the wisdom of having large cannon shells flaoting around on the outside of armour. :-P
I should have some extra hatches in my bitz box.
TBH, things will probably be slow untill I hit my midnight shift as I just installed World Of Tanks, and its freakin' addictive. I get to satisfy 2 cravings blowing stuff up and running around in cool looking WW2 armour. (I've said before, my Dad used to be a military modeller, and I grew up with books of WW2 tanks all around the house.) Modelling wise, I find military modelling too restictive.

New Vindicator? We're twinsies! I just picked one up today on eBay. I know it's not the most "Nurgle" vehicle out there but after having my ass handed to me one too many times recently by IG and Orks alike I'm going to add some scary firepower to my Heavy Support. If nothing else they'll spend their time trying to blow that up instead of my Land Raider or Dreadnoughts. Ha.
Looking forward to seeing how you convert yours and fill in the missing parts. An that whole motivation thing... I had it knocked out of me a while ago but it comes back. Taking a break for a while actually helps I think. I felt like it was wasted time but when I came back to it I got more done with a "fresh start" than I ever did with a 3am "second wind".
In any case, do what you feel like doing. It'll all come together.

Post by: wolfshadow
@ Skalk... The vindy is going to be pretty much stock. If I can scrape up some $ for the CHS sheilds, I might grab a few of them for vehicle iconography, but at $2 a pop, that can get pricy quick.
I've been more than a little sick this past couple of weeks, and haven't gotten anything done. Hopefully I can get back on track this week. I was hoping to have a playable army by this coming weekend. We shall see. I might be able to scrape together a 1k point force.

Played my first game today. 1800 points, non-optimized list. Did ok, lost 2 objectives to 1... Grr, plague marines. Was a great game though. Took out a DP in a turn of shooting.

sounds good, plauge marines are blimmin annoying even i dont like em and im chaos, the trick is to ignore thier armour, if you can do that then they drop like flys

haha yes the most op 4 price model in the codex can be a bit annoying especially when it uses one of its nastiest weapons

Ohhh... Don't get me started on ds'ing twin linked melta. I played a force 2 different times that had Vulkan and a dsing ironclad... Land Raider died first turn twice.

LOL....
He had 1 Autocannon using marine that deserved a sniper medal. Took out a dread and a predator. The plasma marine from that squad got eaten by his plasma gun.
Other notable moment... My vindy got its main gun destroyed... so in a WTH moment, I attempted to tank shock a pretty close to full strenght unit of CSM. It worked. :-) Tehy regrouped next turn, but it delayed them.

Ok, sorry folks, but due to various real life concerns. (Namely being out of work for a bit... waiting on Gov't paperwork...) this is on hold for at least a month or 2. Same thing with any stuff that I said I would send out, and if you never got it. (Mainly to Gits, if he reads this).
Very sadface to not have any cash to even get out of the house right now, as the new GKs are super sexy. and I'd love to at least get a box or 2 of them to mess around with.

Well, I'm moved into my new place. Have to get my desk set up yet, but hopefully next pay will give me a little cash to play with, and/or some time to do some modelling. There are a few bits and pieces that have me excited to do some converting, so we shall see how that goes.
Hope to get back up and going within 2-3 weeks, at least on a limited basis. And maybe in 3 weeks I can get a game or two in.
Cheers.

Need to get some sort of proper list built. I really want to get some sort of HQ/Retinue thing going on. I'm thinking about a squad of Assault Termies lead by a Captain or somthing but I havent made up my mind. Maybe jsut a squad of termies in general. We shall see.
Oh, and I found my dice! No templates, but I do have dice now.
