Hey all! A second army blog, this one for my Dark Eldar kabal. I'm still waiting for my second order of Wyches, and a Raider. For now, I have ten Kabalites assembled, and ten Wyches converted into Harlequins. But those pictures would probably be fairly meh-worthy with the quality camera I'm using. I shall wait until they are painted, or I can work my camera.
For now though, I needed a Webway Portal and almost shelled out $17 for one from GW. Then I figured, why not make one myself? One styrofoam ball (3" diameter) cut in half, painted, wetblended, and varnished, and I suddenly had two portals. Total cost: 69c. Total saving: $33.31. What do you think?
This blog updates periodically. Keep reading for pics of...
- Mantis Chronos
- Grotesques from Rat Ogres
- Kabalite Warriors
- Wyches
- Archons
- Wracks
- Haemonculi
- Razorwing Flocks
- Razorwing Jetfighter
- Khymera
- Raider
- Wych Harlequin

Great idea.... our store ordered two and they were sold before they even got there. I wanted a Vortex Grenade but seeing them on Epay for $30 makes it tough to justify.
Now... thanks to you, there is hope....

Just a simple hobby knife. Sliced around the mould line lightly, then deeply, then pressed them close together and twisted. They're a bit rough underneath as a result, but you never see that part anyways.
Colours were... Black then Thraka Green undercoat, Black:Thraka:Hawk Turquoise (2:1:1) over the whole thing. Then wetblend (try to make the tops jagged though) with Turqoise mixed ~1:1 with Black, then with 2:1, then 4:1. Then wetblend Turqoise mixed 2:1 with Fortress Grey, then 2:1.5 (I just added a dab to my mix). As you blend, start from the peak, and have another detail brush on standby to draw the colours down as lightning. A 1:2 Turqoise:Grey mix for some lightning on the top. Then a final highlight of pure Fortress Grey on some of the strands of lightning. Easy and very lightweight. They took me around 20 minutes to do.
The only difference is about 1/16" sizing all around because SBM aren't 3" exactly.

I imagine the same technique could be done for a vortex grenade. Arts and crafts stores have varying sized foam balls, you just need to bring a tape measure in with you.

Behold! The beginnings of the Mantis Blueprint Chronos! I was going to use my toothbrush for the body, but the Reaver Jetbikes just make such beautiful body parts that I couldn't resist. I'm waiting on brass tubing, and I need two Wraithlord Arms to finish it. Any thoughts as to what I should use for a Spirit Vortex or Syphon? I was going to trim down the splinter rifles to make the close combat suckers. Might mount a gun on its... where? Shoulder? Oh, and click if you want to see my Warriors. Curse my camera again! Its battery sucks, so hence BB photos again. I promise I won't try and show off my paint scheme with this phone camera. http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/159355-.html

Update on the Chronos!
Filled in the gaps where the eyes go, and on the back those greenstuff blobs are going to be poison reservoirs (or, for a Talos, parts storage). Ended up using thick wire rather than brass tubing for the legs, as the brass was too thick.
And my other current project...
Grotesques!

Post by: sum1thtdiesalot
Those will make some pretty cool grotesques. I really like the one with the chains but the chain in the right hand needs something on the end of it. Like the eviscerated body of a freshly killed enemy or something else morbid

Love the portals !!! I was thinking the same thing when I saw the "limited edition" portal on the site. Especially since it was just a repainted Vortex Grenade template that they released for Apocalypse.

Thanks for the comments, guys.
(And sum1thtdiesalot, I'll be bending the chains backwards to make it look like he is whipping them forwards.)
I took a break from converting to paint up a test model of a Kabalite Warrior. Wanted to have an oily sheen to his colours. What do you think?

I also had a go at painting a Harlequin. I've converted a whole squad from Wyches. Just waiting on my Shuriken Cannon to convert my Death Jester.

Hey Invention, you know on the Warriors, on some of them they have this little round disk. What is that? Or, what did you take that to be?
And yeah, I love the idea of Harlies. They're a great distraction unit, and even a small squad is hideous in close combat. Plus, the diamond pattering is just too fun not to paint. I want to experiment with different patterns, but at the same time I want to tie them in with both my Eldar and Deldar armies. Eldar = bone armour. Deldar then will have to be the colours (teal, purple, green, dark blue).

Post by: sum1thtdiesalot
The disc on their hip is a chain thing that allows them to hang off of the raider. I just painted it silver. Some of the models actually have a chain and hook attached to it
26603
Post by: InventionThirteen
I painted a lurid blue swirl on them, I thought they may be like a chain feeder/carabina style thing for staying attached to the raider while easing the jump off, the above poster just confirmed it. However I have seen people paint them like circular/disc plasma grenades.

Ahah! That's what they are. Thanks guys.
Short update: Chronos parts arrived, so I can finish it now. Still trying to figure out how to do the Vortex and Syphon. I'm thinking I'll paint the chest piece (caltrops dropper) like it would be a syphon, and use the Grav bomb from the Reavers as a Vortex gun. Though I don't know where to attach it to.
Also update: painted the inside bit of the warrior's gun ice blue after trying to figure out how to make him not look rainbow. He now looks icy and cold.
Also update: parts arrived for Harlequins. Plastic Harlies are almost done.

Mantis Chronos is now done. I've spent the last six hours painting it. The light isn't right outside now to take nice photos of it, but I'll have pics of it up by tomorrow, as well as the completed Warriors. For now, some fluff and a teaser picture of the final model.
Fluff...
Archon Rathiel Thaedrath of the Kabal of the Crystal Mantis is an oft-time patron of the enigmatic Coven of Homonculi known as the Tinkers. By these, he spends his extraordinary wealth of souls gathered from time before Vect, accumulating a variety of 'fun' gadgets for use in realspace raids. Amongst these are custom built Chronos, built in the image of the Kabal's namesake.
Lieutenant Garrin ducked under the curved blade of the xenos warrior, lashing out with his power sword and feeling the field slice cleanly through the wych. Still drugged, she screamed and thrashed in the dirt before death came. He shivered before turning back to the battle; it seemed almost like she enjoyed that. He allowed himself a second to analyse the fight. The xenos were losing heart, and their raid was faltering against the guns and bayonettes of the disciplined guard regiment. It was a battle already won.
His smile turned to a frown as one of the xenos leaders fell. Above the corpse, a rippling nothingness tore into a hole of crackling energy. Through it, Garrin barely glimpsed a harnessed sun and world of darkness before his attention focused on a more present threat. From the gate emerged a chittering construction of wraith-glowing metal and segmented yellow eyes. It clattered towards his men on four needle-like legs, graceful despite its size. Garrin had only ever seen an Ogryn once, and this dwarfed even that. From its shoulder, a glowing projection grew, blue in colour and brighter than a star. Garrin's practiced insticts dropped him to the ground, and the blast came roiling above his head. He heard the men behind him scream and watched in horror as they aged their lives away in a second, turning from healthy Cadians to skeletal figures, then fell to the ground as dust.
The xenos seemed to take heart in the display of sadistic sorcery, and they began their assault with a renewed vigour. Garrin turned back to the monster in time to leap out of the way as its chest began to glow, and another burst of energy geriatrified the men to his side. He turned, still kneeling, as the foul creature stood above him. He hadn't even heard it approach. From its chest, it unfolded two grasping claws, and closer now he could see various needles and scalpels emerging from its mouth. It stabbed its arm deep into him and the world instantly froze as a pain more intense than Garrin had ever felt raged through his chest. The pain continued for a time uncountable until he had the sense to open his eyes. Blinking away tears, Garrin noticed that the world had not unfrozen - everywhere around him, a tableaux of still models. He watched and screamed as the pain continued. Then he noticed something that made his heart skip, and he gave up hope. The world wasn't a tableaux, it was just slowed to the extreme. He was doomed to have his life drained as his men had been, and the pain, well the pain wasn't about to stop.
He stared into the many faceted eyes of his killer and asked silently, 'why?'. Lieutenant Garrin swore he heard laughter in his head. Laughter that would haunt him for the rest of his long, long life.
I used plasticard tubing to bulk its legs a bit. Used a grav cluster thing and a phantasm launcher as the spirit vortex. One final thing the pic doesn't show is that I added four mandibles made to look like knives and syringes.

Thanks all for the comments. Unfortunately, my camera is not made for Macro Images, and also it doesn't pick up strong contrast well. As a result, I realise, the intense green highlights can frustratingly not be seen in the pictures and they look a little washed-out. Any suggestions apart from using a different camera to fix that? Maybe Photoshop?
Also, ask and ye shall receive. Sybarite Anthien's banner.
And tried to get a better shot of the Chronos' chest.

Yeah, I have a main banner design, which I will be replicating to some part degree on all of the Sybarite banners. Only the raiders will have the design in full.
Progressed quite a bit on my army. I have converted up my Archon, and painted my Wyches. All I have left to do now is a Raider, Urien (got for Chrissy), and my old Talos. Then I could always repaint my old Incubi.
Here's my Archon conversion, from a High Elf Mage kit, with some Druchii spearmen parts, some Wych parts, accessories from the Raider, head from Corsairs, arms from Warriors.
And here are my finished Wyches:

Thanks. I just added the banner from Cold One Knights to a Kabalite Warrior backpack. I can't claim complete credit for that. Rabid Bunny 666 over on Warseer's painting logs had a Klaivex who used this in a similar way as a backpack.
Again, the colours didn't really come out that well. It's a lot more vivid in real life. I need to figure out how to get those colours looking right. Once the Archon and Raider are painted, I might try and use my brother's super awesome camera to get a better picture of everything.

Finally had my struggle with Photoshop and managed to colour-balance out the right contrast of my Kabal colours. I've been quite busy on this as well. Working on Wracks, Haemonculi, Archon, Raider, Razorwing. Some parts came in the mail. And so, I present to you, Archon Rathiel Thaedrus:
In the time before Vect, the pleasure palace of Aguta'tor Emortalis was known throughout the webway as a place where Eldar could go unrestrained through childhood desires, whether they be petty vandalism or operating gigantic magnifying glasses to burn slaves alive. In that time, it was ruled by the Lord Norvalan Istrid, an Eldar who took 'child at heart' too far. Through Coven compacts, his blood always ran fresh, constantly refreshed with captured child-slaves, his heart replaced by four newborn hearts each day. When Vect replaced the aristocracy with a meritocracy of Kabals, Istrid's son and heir reassured his father that they could continue as they once had. His father could relax and focus on his desires. He, Rathiel, would run the Kabal like a militant wing of the Lord's estates.
Over the next thousand years, Rathiel has strengthened his hold on the estates of his father. Lord Istrid still 'runs' everything, but through consumption of childrens' souls and hearts for thousands of years he has slowly gone mad. It is more convenient for Rathiel that his father remain head of the estates, as it halves the number of assassination attempts he must deal with. He still gives fealty to his father, but many say he does so only so long as it is convenient for him. His father rules as figurehead only.
And a few WIP Pics of my Coven portion of my army. Heard on Warseer that Wracks aren't coming out in plastic in March, so I'm making my own from Flaggelants. They stand a tiny bit shorter than Warriors, but their back spires bulk them out a bit. Not quite sure how I'm gonna paint them yet.
And lastly, a WIP of my Razorwing flocks. This is gonna take a LOT of plasticard to make. Not sure whether to model 3 (looks better) or 5 (more rules-proper) per base.

Sat down and painted the first of the Wracks. I might darken their clothes. What does everyone think? He's made from:
- Flaggelant Body
- Dryad Head Crest (for the back spine)
- Wych weapon
- Raider Warrior weapon (and the chain from the Raider)
- Dryad arm
- Plasticard tubes for cannisters
- Greenstuff face over a Warrior face

To me, I pictured these guys as being almost monochrome grey and black, with a few small clashes of color like brown dried blood and gold/tin metals to them. Almost looking like Cenobytes from Hellraiser if you know what I mean? Dirty, abused until they turned evil and lifeless type vibe. I know you want to keep the theme running in your army color scheme, but I almost feel like making them darker than your relatively bright DE would almost make them 'scarier' since they are the masters. -
'Fek me those things are the stuff of nightmares...'
'But those are just the slaves...'
Now, imagine black robes, and those cannisters and armor in brass... ?

I don't know about doing the cannisters or armour in brass. I might keep those the same to tie them in with my army. However, the black robes sound good. Scary even. I'll try and paint up a second one with black, and see how it goes. That'll make them look more like the wyches too.

Figured I should update a little bit, to keep myself painting. I'm finding my painting fever is dying down a bit for this army.
Been painting up my first Raider. I wasn't sure how I was going to do this one, then spotted some nice freehand runes on Gonders' (over on Warseer) models. They looked so beautiful and it would be better and more original than the generic Tron-esque Raiders, I just had to give it a go. Here are the runes painted...
I've converted the front hanger-on to be a Sybarite, and tried to give every model a helmet. The gunner at the front is just waiting for a helmet coming in my incoming Warriors box.

I'm not sure. I was going to do one of those hexagon patterns that fade from front to back, but I don't know if it will be too busy, what with the freehand. Suggestions?
Taking on MajorTom and Darth Bob's suggestions to darken the wracks. You guys were right. They look a lot darker and more menacing now. I couldn't bring myself to paint his wrist-guards bronze. I'd like at least one thing on them to be painted like my Warriors.
Now to order a box of Flaggelants from Maelstrom and get a full squad of these guys. I'll have three Flaggelant bodies left over. I could maybe use them for Raider passenger conversions, if no one has any better suggestions.
Comparison New and Old below:::
37247
Post by: Vanq
Certainly more evil looking. I like it, but again I liked the other too hahaha
It almost looks like he has a tabbard...maybe you could paint that middle part blue to match your warriors? Or even add another layer of cloth there?
For the sail, hex patterns would look awesome, I remember seeing one similar here. Looks suitably high tech.
I'm personally going to have a crack at making the sail look like its a solar "panel" of sorts.
Flat contrasting colour seems to work well too...depends what the main colour of the raider is going to be
31470
Post by: sum1thtdiesalot
Black looks waaaaaAay better IMO. Much more menacing.

Post by: Foxtale
Just ordered a box of Flagellants from Maelstrom, so soon I will have Wracks!
Also, my second Raider and squad of Warriors arrived in the mail. I've already put the Kabalites together (and undercoated) and the Raider is constructed enough to use in games now. For the Kabalites, I decided to go with a slightly different approach to Sybarite, but I'll wait until it's painted to show you all.
Raider is done. For the Raider, I used a mix of freehand that I saw on Gonders' work over on Warseer, and the honeycomb pattern for the sail that is so popular on Warseer at the moment. I thought it would look too cluttered, but I think the effect works well. I converted the hangers-on to look more like my Warriors, with the Sybarite hanging off the front ready to be the first into the fray. I've snipped off the ball-joint stand and replaced it with some heavy magnets. Already I love it more, as it's not constantly tipping over.

Yeah, Kamsm8 over on Warseer used the pattern, though I've seen it used before him by someone else. I just did it by eye. Admittedly, I did it at 4am, so it's not done very well. Next raider will be different.
1-i wrote:Great selection of colors and amazing scribbles that look freehanded.
Thanks And thanks for all the comments, everyone else. sum1, I'm glad the freehand worked out. I was worried about that.
I like the theme you have going, what was the inspiration for a crystal mantis?
The idea of a mantis suits the Dark Eldar so well. As an insect species, they hunt by waiting patiently, judging for the perfect moment, planning. Then in a lightning strike they lash out and capture their prey. They then hold their prey fast while their mandibles and sharp jaws omnom them like an old dial-up connection loads an image. Through the whole thing, the victim is alive and helpless, as the mantis feeds on it.
I thought this style of attack suited the Taloi or Chronoi best, but then realised it applies well to a Dark Eldar mindset as well. As for crystal? I wanted a second word, that was a green stone. I was close to calling it the Kabal of the Jade Mantis, but that sounded too Eastern (not quite the DE aesthetic) and Crystal worked alliteration-wise.

Been working on a Haemonculus converted from the Island of Blood mage. The front part of the body works so perfectly for this. I love the model. I want more!!! Anyways, I used chains from the Raider, and razorflails from the wyches (one with a minor hand swap), a head from Wood Elves. Some sculpting necessary, and added a backbone with wire and GS. First time using wire in this way. Hurrah!
I also wanted to show you all my WIP of my second Warrior squad. Since every Sybarite has a banner, but I wanted to give this one a phantasm GL, I gave him a 2IC to carry his banner.

I tried that, but the way it is, it frames his head much better. Originally, it was him holding them up there as a halo-ish sort of backspire. It was never really intended to be him swinging them.

It was indeed. We shall see how the Wracks all look once I get my full squad done.
Rabid Ferret wrote:Mother looks amazing. She is by far the coolest Haemonculi conversion I have seen.
Why thank you.
sum1thtdiesalot wrote:Nice heamoculus! Is he sportin a hex rifle?
That he is. I plan on magnetising the arms so I can switch out a few different weapon options.
catharsix wrote:i see you are also using the IoB mage as a base for a Hemonoculus. did you get that idea from my Plog, or come up with it independently? (great minds think alike?)
I wish there were more Plogs too. I try and keep track of every one of them. (I somehow missed yours.) Yeah, I came up with it independently. Though I love the look of yours. It's such a good base, isn't it? Our two are so varied from one another's, yet they used the same base.

Hoping this doesn't auto-append.
I grabbed my camera and took a few happy snaps after I finished the second warrior squad. (4 hours in total: 12midnight to 4am watching Dexter s4 in the background.)
Quite a few updated pics. First of all, my second Kabalite squad. I now feel comfortable playing games. Though I'll be happier once my Wracks are done. This pushes my points up to around 800 for the army.

As you can see, each Sybarite has his own banner image, all parts from the main banner design.
I experimented with a different blue colouring on the back potions. Which do you guys prefer? The new on the left or old on the right? (Black one still needs varnish added, and other details I was too lazy to do last night.)
I really like the banner carrier. I think it adds a lot to plop this guy on an objective marker and just be able to say, "See this objective? It's mine now."
Now for more pics properly colour-balanced now that I can use photoshop and macro.
Of the chronos
and the wyches
and finally, my entire army in all its evil glory.
(And one last pic of something I'm working on right now...)
I might change those poles holding them up to be a thin rod rather than the thick one that exists as is.

Looks great Foxtale. You mind If I steal that standard bearer idea? I love the way that looks. Razorwing flock is looking pretty sweet as well. Keep up the good work

Very menacing, love the scratch-Haemonculi.
The banners are fantastic though, love the individual squad runes...I might steal that idea too!

I know! It works so well! (I just used a gun-gripping hand to hold the banner).
Further updates: I've nearly finished off the Wrack squad. All I need is some more pvc tubing to make the hanging poison jars. I'll have that soon enough, I imagine. Anyone know a good place to buy it? The wrack with the dot mask is my favorite.
First grotesque is also at a WIP stage now. Pinning was oh so helpful in his construction. I'm trying to follow the book as much as possible.
(Apologies for photo quality. This was a quick happy snap of the WIP greens.)

Pavei delicately extended his chain arm, placing lightly the small watch-cog that would make this entire piece run. He gave it a small spin and watched his handiwork come to life. Whirring cogs spun more cogs, dropping weights and swinging pendulums. It was perfectly balanced. Now it would never stop moving, so long as it itself moved. He smiled as the cogs interfaced with the nerves, so that every movement would bring spasms of pain to the hulk of a man 'strapped' into it. To not move would pinch a nerve and so cause a burst of such exquisite agony as to render the subject moving again.
The haemonculus stepped back to admire his handiwork. The man glared at him with a look of pure hatred. That was good. Pavei let the feelings of hate wash over him like a cool Spring shower. He shivered. It was almost too much. He heard a clear clicking noise, signalling that the clockwork signals had reached the man's brain. "Stand," Pavei commanded.
The man said nothing. His vocal tract had been removed early in the process when Pavei had gotten tired of listening to the space marine's litanies. Instead, Pavei smiled as small tuning plates resonated at his vocal frequency, picking up individual phonemes and dropping pins within the spined backplates of the new pain engine. Each pin pierced the victim, even as it translated the words into commands. Signals pulled wires, which tweaked electro-generators within the pilot's brain. The brain directed the engine to stand.
"Now you are perfect, toy. Walk over there and stand with the others," Pavei said, gesturing to a corner of the warehouse filled with other similar engines. "I will come and play with you when I am ready."
He turned to the second marine, held in an energy field to the wall, and drew out a small set of face paints and a brush with two chain arms. "Now tell me, what would you like me to make you?"
Pavei is my first haemonculus, a being of pure childish glee. He is the prime Tinker of his coven, and the one with the privilege of creating new Pain Engines. His spine has been elongated into a spiked tail, and he has implanted both an extra pair of arms, and two pairs of chain-arms which have different attachments depending on his preference (for war, painting, or construction).
He is constructed from a High Elf Island of Blood Mage body, kabalite arms/gun, wood elf head, wych arms and razorflails, chains from the Raider, and knives/potions from the Kroot. On looking at the photos, I realise I still have a little bit of highlighting to do on his potion bottles. I'm not satisfied with his face either. I need to define his mouth more. The arms are removable, so that I can swap them out (I'm planning a shattershard arm made with a real mirror shard, as well as a WWP arm, and a liquifier arm).
Now that I'm done him, I have a choice of what I do next...
- Paint Wracks
- Paint Beastmasters
- Construct and paint Khymerae
- Construct and paint Grotesques
What should I do?

Good use of green on the base and I agree with Vanq the hood is a little off. Maybe some better definition of the face to contrast the hood a bit?

Ahhh still not happy with that Haemie. Perhaps my Talos bits will help me make one I like.
Just got my penultimate Maelstrom order:
- 4 x Scourge Boxes
- Venom
- Wyches
- Talos
From those I have already constructed:
- 10 Scourges
- 5 Trueborn (5 more coming)
- 5 Bloodbrides (5 more coming)
- Talos
- Trueborn Venom
Still on my 'to paint' list is:
- All of the above
- 10 Wracks
- 5 Corsair Incubi
- Corsair Archon
- 5 Beastmasters
- 10 Various Beasts
- Urien Rakarth
Still to construct:
- Talos from scraps
- 4 Grotesques
- Wrack Raider
I'll try and get some more work done on them, but my time is limited at the moment and I don't know how much I'll be able to devote to this for a while.

Ah! I wish I'd bought another six boxes of Scourges now. They're such an ease to put together, and they look incredible. Easily my favourite model from the new range, and I want to make a 'counts-as Hellions' Baron army now with them.
That said, I have become enamoured with the Razorwing Jetfighter, and have been working on painting it.
I have now constructed everything I need to. I have two Talos, 4 Grotesques and my Wrack Raider is done.
Now for painting the lot of it.

Freehand, Vanq. Sketched it out on a bit of paper first, then painted it straight on and touched it up with dark purple to fix mistakes.
Tenebrae, The Solar Baron Returns wrote:
Lady Askiel regained consciousness slowly. The first thing she noticed was that she knelt on a white wraithbone decking, stripped of all clothing, arms behind her in chains. She had been dressed in a white robe with a golden chain about her waist. A shadow strode before her, its silhouette striking against the crackling green nebula through the viewing panel before her. Behind her, an alien entity in brown robes stood, or perhaps hovered, feeding on her psychic energy and silencing her sorceries.
A faint humming from the floor and walls told Askiel she was in transit on an Eldar ship. The only other sounds in the room came from the tapping of the shadow's feet and a white owl roosting near the window, cleaning its feathers of blood. She looked up as the shadow returned. It knelt down and materialised into an Eldar. "You?" She said, surprised.
The pirate returned her greeting with a polite nod. "Lady Askiel. The pleasure quite clearly belongs to me in our meeting. This is not the first time we have met." The voice spoke through an ivory Dire Avenger helmet and Askiel spotted an Avenger symbol hanging about its waist, but the rest of the pirate's armour was anything but. Black-green armour as heavy as a Scorpion Exarch shifted masterfully as the pirate knelt, and a deep purple coat spread around his legs like warpspider-silk. He appraised her. She knew him.
"Tene'n, what is the meaning of this?" The name sounded odd to her lips. She had not spoken it in decades.
The pirate nodded again, reached up and disconnected its helmet. The roguish grin of her once-student and mate framed eyes that looked back at her with recognition and sadness and... something else. Green electricity sparked behind his black pupils. "My lady," he spoke sarcastically.
"But, you died on Asthaith. I saw it happen." She spoke truth. The chaos incursion had almost taken the maiden world when Tene'n led an army to destroy the artifact corrupting it all. She had seen the armour disintegrate from his body, the flesh stripped away from his face as he pushed to reach it. And when the flash of green corruption engulfed his army, they, he, and it had all vanished. Like turning off the sun, the chaos forces had withered and died once their power anchor did. Askiel's grief at his passing had almost destroyed the survivors, so infectious it was.
"Asthaith was just the beginning. The corruption filled me, and I fought it in my soul. When I awoke, I was alone, surrounded by the twisted corpses of the army. Only a few of us survived the battles within our souls, and we were... changed."
She could sense it about him, even without her seer's senses.
He spoke before she could ask her question. "How did we get here?" He gestured around, "That is another matter entirely. But I have learned certain truths. We Eldar are failing and fading. The universe is so much more than we allow ourselves to experience. What use is life without joy, or sadness," he looked at her for a second in a way that he had once before, "or love."
"My corsairs and I have harnessed that corruption. We need no soul stones, we need not feed from others' pain. We have been to glowing novas and fought through burning space hulks, seen maiden worlds and worlds encasing frozen metal races." As he spoke, Askiel felt the energy change in the room. Her body pushed adrenaline through her veins, she quickened her breathing involuntarily. Tene'n spoke up a frenzy, she found herself agreeing wholeheartedly. "My plans are coming to fruition even now, and soon I will free our entire race from the clutches of She Who Thirsts." He moved closer to her as he said this. "And you are instrumental to my plans."
Askiel wasn't even breathing now. She hardly dared to, lest her breath stop his speech. "What can I do?" She asked, with the faintest of exhalations.
"Simply this," he said, moving close and kissing her. Askiel found her mental guards dropping, her emotions running wild for the first time in years. Elation. Elation and pain. The combination built within her until she succumbed to darkness.
Tene'n stood from her corpse, holding a bloodied knife in his left hand and her heart in his right. "Thank you, Askiel," he said to the still-smiling body of the seer. Blood was spreading to puddle on the floor and the white owl flew to it, stepping back to stay out of the wet, but drinking it where he could. Tene'n went to the intercom, composed himself and once more adopted the identity of Tene'brae, The Solar Baron.
* * *
The memory stopped. Tene'brae put a hand to his chest where his once-love's heart beat next to his own. He felt the dual-drumming and glanced out of the viewing window covering one wall. They were approaching the portal that would take them to the City of Nightmares. He turned to his attendant. "Again," he said, "play it again. This time let me dream it from the start."
((Archon counts as, and Incubi counts as.))

Oh, thats just creepy...awesome fluff
Whats the plan!! I must know

Post by: Foxtale
The plan? I guess I should write more fluff to expand on it. For now, new painted models! (I've been busy.)
First up, the Archon in question, the Corsair Captain, The Lord Solar Baron, Tene'brae. This guy was as much a result of my love for the Dire Avenger kit as it was of the concept of a Craftworld-Eldar-turned-Corsair. For some, the rigid discipline of the Craftworlds is not. Those who seek to experience the universe in its entirety lead lives as corsairs. Tene'brae's path has brought him to Commoragh, where he occasionally enlists the help of the Kabal of the Crystal Mantis. Every attack he makes seeks a single artefact. To the Kabal he gives all of the spoils, except this one thing. Some say he is piecing together something out of the artefacts. But none have come close enough to him to find out. He still bears the distinctive right shoulder, knee and boot scheme of his original Craftworld, as well as his helmet.
He uses a DA helmet, guardian legs, cold one rider torso, hellion glaive, wych knife arm converted to hold a gun, high elf lord cloak, and an owl from the wood elf kit.
Next is my completed Razorwing Jetfighter! Not too much different from the WIP and the final. Painted the pilot's gem purple, added guns, and painted the base.
Last up on the Dark Eldar side of things, my first Khymera. I still have to convert up another 8 or so, and paint the other 9, but I figured I'd get a test model worked on first. Of course, once I cut out the Spider faces, I wished that I had just used the Spiders as warp beasts, so pretty they are, and more in theme. Oh well, perhaps when I get moneys I will buy another box of Spider Riders.
And for a bonus round, a Grey Knight I was helping a friend paint. He wanted to do a silver colour scheme, with greeny-blue tinges. I began with Boltgun:Hawk Turquoise 50:50, then Boltgun, then Mithril. I tried to make the scheme easy to replicate, as he isn't a confident or experienced painter.
What do you all think? Does it look Grey Knighty enough?

Archon is sweet, the hell-glaive is one of my favorite looking weapons in the new range, looks cool here. Helmet looks a little funky though, not sure if that was the effect your were after or just that the white didn't go on smoothly?
Edge work on the Razorwing is great too, love the blue to green effect.
Very gritty Grey Knight too, any chance of a clearer shot of the blade? Looks like an interesting effect I may want to nick...

Like your conversions of harlequins, beasts and the wracks as well.
Don't be affraid of using bright colours no matter what others tell you.
This said, I really like the oily effect you are using.
Looking forward to beastmasters and more harlequins.
And more of those freehands!

You'll like this then. I've just finished painting up all the non-special Harlequins.
I still have to finish the cloaks for my Troupe Master, Deathjester and Shadowseer. But the rest are painted. Should I put up pics now, do you think? Or wait for them all to be done and get a group shot?
And Vanq, I'll try and get a better pic of the blade for you.
