Ok it works. So lets the story begins. Look what I've found under my christmas tree. It is gift from my amazing wife, who bought this model on ebay;D

Model is so beatifull and so detailed but all parts are glued together and I'm too aftraid to part them so I'm expecting painters hell. General plan (da plan) is to paint all stompa metalic, weather it with drybrush and washes and then move to the parts that I can reach with brush and paint them separatly. Similar technique I used on my deffcoptas.

Wow that is one spectacular, spectacular stompa. 8-)

If it looks close to you Deffkoptas that will be one impressive centre piece model when complete.

First step (after removal of Christmas decoration :-)) is to basecoat the whole model with chaos black. Then I covered it with tin bitz paint (except orks of course).
All with the largest brush I got ;D

Looks interesting- Looking forward to seeing it painted.

He's looking awesome - Ill be watching intently - that conversion work youve done is incredible.

It is not conversion and its not mine Anyway I drybrushed whole stompa with Boltgun Metal still using the largest brush I got (easy times are almost done)

... and three bottles of Devlan Mud later ... (it is still wet)

Yeah if it is going to look like your deff coptas then it is going to look amazing, it's a very unique model.

Meantime I'm finishing my Ultramarines project. They are after long campaign, very beardy and muddy.

OK. It is time to start working on some serious grotz wall Artzzz. I painted selected Stompa plates with Charadon Granite, then used some bright foundation colours, and finally sponged it with Charadon Granite. After that the whole machine was washed with Gryphone Sephia.
Ugh and alot of detailing waiting. And amazing wife is getting inpatient she loves orks.

Those Ultras are stunning. What are you planning to add next?

First I wanted to thank you guys for those very kind words
And now - back to bussiness.
I have spent a lot of time today lightening colours on front side of the stompa. It was too dark.
Now - as you can see, most of the front is almost finished. And finally I have a reference point for the rest of a model, so can move to arms and back.

Buf before changing the sides, I tried to put base colours on the crew.
... I really did...

... but that really didn't work out.

I had to make the hardest decision in my almost 2 weeks with stompa...
With help of a brutal force I ripped da crew from the model.
I had alot of luck and stompa survived.

(Gosh that was close, my wife would rip me apart too!)

Looks fantastic, and the paint work is brilliant. The head reminds me of this rather mean fellow.

Here is my magic drawer with future plans. ;D

Grotz were very busy today doing their artz on all sides of stompa. As you can see its back and both arms got base painted. Then I washed everything with gryphone sephia, and we will see tomorrow how it worked :-).

Before I start I have conffession to make. There was accident involving stompa and the floor. Oh well I put her back together but she has her first battle scars. :-(
(dont ask me what my wife said...)

My holidays are over so work on stompa slowed down. Good thing is that the biggest part of painting is already behind me.
Most of the time now I'm spending on painting details. I added few forgeworld orc etched brass here and there and also created base for the model.
Now few random shots. Tomorrow I will try to post pictures of a crew. They have their base colorours on and have been washed for the first time.

This is some amazing work, not just the model but your collection and your painting skills.

I love all the details in the...kitchen? All of it looks amazing!

Normally I'm a purist with ork stompa/gargant design, I like me some fatty walking kettles of doom, but you have done an amazing and characterful job with your design and paint scheme. Congrats!

Its all really nice on here. Out of interest, how long do you spend on normal sized models (as opposed to large lumbering doom-mongerers)?

Usually I'm painting 3-4 hours 3-4 days per week, sometimes longer on weekends. During that time I finish 1-3 miniatures. Squad of 10 miniatures takes 1-2 weeks. Winter days are bad for painting tho because light is poor and my eyes are not that good anymore.
Now promised shots of crew after base colours and devlan wash.

Very impressive stompa puzi, and an amazing paintjob! Love the Battlescene photos too! I have the same eyesight issues as you, but it really doesn't show in your work. Also you paint very quickly imo, wasn't a long project at all.

Sorry for no updates lately but I was sick (and grumpy <-- remark of amazing wife). Now I'm feeling much better and it is time to get back to painting.

Today is Ork Commando Nob. Wonderfull Forgeworld miniature and start of my commando troops.

Hello,
It is time for promised tutorial. I hope it will be helpfull.

After I basecoated miniature with Citadel Chaos Black spray, I put base colours. I always try to use Fundation Colours, because they have good coverage and I hate to paint the same area again and again.
So for this Renegate Ogryn I used: Knarlock Green for cap, Tallarn Flesh for skin, Tausept Ochre for pants, Calthan Brown for leathers, Tin Bitz and Chaos Silver (Chaos Black+Boltgun Metal 1:1), Vallejo Heavy Siena for base.

Then it is time for wash. I usually use Devlan Mud or Badab Black, in this case I used the first. Wash is real heavy. I really dont care much about it, the goal is to have clear contours and shadows, all other things can be corrected lately.

The last shot is for already dry miniature.

See, for me the wash stage is pretty much the final stage in the painting process

After miniature is dry (usually on the next day) I do a drybrushing. Bestial Brown and Vomit Brown for base. Dwarf Bronze, Boltgun Metal, Chainmail and then Mithril Silver for metals basecoted with Tin Bitz, the same but without Dwarf Bronze for Chaos Silver parts. Then I start to put highlights. I use that usefull Citadel Layering Chart for choosing colours. I'm painting with very light brush strokes, using watered down paints. For a cap I used Camo Green and then mixing into it more and more Rotting Flesh. For skin Dwarf Flesh with mixing Elf Flesh. For leathers Bestial Brown with Vomit Brown. For pants Tausept Ochre+Golden Yellow with more and more Skull White. Then I washed skin with heavy watered Liche Purple, leathers and metals with Scorched Brown, and veryl lightly metals with Blazing Orange (few spots).
When all is dry I wash the whole miniature with Gryphone Sephia wash, this time not overdoing it. Goal is to smooth all layers of paint together.

Then I put that funny headgear on my head. Try this, this is the whole new world of painting when you can zoom in a miniature. And do details.

Miniature is finished then. I hope you enjoy

Ahead of me is a really huge project. I want to repay old debt to my friends and paint Dark Eldar army for them. I'm not 40k player (at least not battle game) so I picked ready army from Games Workshop website:

It is 1500 points army with about 50 models including 4 Raiders and 2 Ravagers and I have only two, max three months to paint it. Cross fingers for me.

I waited longer than expected for the ordered dark eldars so in the meantime I painted two renegate heavy weapon squads.

Last Friday they arrived at last! Instead of two Raiders I got one Raider and one box of Reavers, but it doesn't matter.
Now all miniatures are glued and basecoated, I also painted bases. Tomorrow I'm gonna paint first test model. Wish me luck

Ok I have my prototype model, now I have to figure out how to speed up painting process without spending few hours on each miniature. Hmm ...

When you find out how to paint the rest of them as amazingly is this one, but quickly, please post a TUT

I'm barely on time, 7 days of painting and the first squad is completed. I have bad feelings about meeting the deadline but we will see. All depends on how fast I will be able to paint ships.
Dark Eldars are the first miniatures I'm painting faster one by one than the whole squad at once. But they got so much details that need attention...
Oh and the first model of the 2nd squad. Sorry for lame pictures, maybe later I will try to make better.

I think I got that chart from Citadel Paint Set, Starting or Foundation I'm not sure.

Ok. Time for dark eldar weekly raport. Again

20 kabalite warriors and 3 reaver bikes have been painted (there is only one on photo because the other two were just finished today.
Tomorrow I'm gonna glue remaining 10 warriors and 3 bikes. I'm a little sick of painting reavers, somehow warriors are much more enjoyable.

Another weekly report here. Two weeks and two Raiders done. Now I'm waiting for the third to arrive. I also decided to switch two Ravengers from my original plan for two new Talos, and Incubi Raider for a new Venom. And of course I have already ordered all of them (lets pray the "amazing wife" will be ok with that ). I hope they arrive soon.
In the meantime I'm trying to order Incubi box, but it is a pain in the butt to find one, after GW stoped making metal figures. Cross fingers for me.

Hello friends,

Another day, another miniature Well, my wife is kicking me to post more regularly ("do you know what the blog means?") - here it comes. After months spent on dark eldar army I am not ready for another big project. So the one below is from Mad Puppets line with a few GW orcs (dead ;-)). It is birthday gift for my old friend. His fovourite RPG character is named Mildir (well whenever possible his character name is Mildir). And he is such a hero that killing three orcs with two bullets is not a big deal for him. ;-)
