First, there was Pokeminis in 2009, in which I cleared out tons of unpainted stuff.

Then there was Pokeminis 2010, in which I fizzled out.

Now that Dakka Dakka has a new showcase forum, I've decided to skip the blog and
just post pics when I'm done! (Yeah, getting kinda lazy).

So let's kick off the year with some Cygnaran Storm Lances!

Are those wash on white primer, if so they have worked out remarkably well!

No, but I think I can see why you'd think they were all washes on white.

The blues are Reaper Triads: Templar highlighted up then washed down then
highlighted up again. Blue ink is too strong, so I made a wash out of the Triad and
use that instead for my Cygnar...and Trolls, too.

The yellow is filthy brown highlighted up and then yellow inked.

The white is Wolf Grey with Breonne blue wash and highlighted up
to Ghost Grey.

Painted models 6 and 7: Katherine Laddermore.

I did NOT like putting a bunch of large bases into my paint queue. Next time, cavalry gets
done all on its own. It's like painting 6 jacks!

Interesting color scheme. Did you do all your Cygnar mans up in that lighter blue or is it only the calvary?

If you go through my gallery you'll f ind that most of it is in that lighter blue.

I have older models that use Magic Blue or whatever that shade is, but I
much prefer the Reaper Templar blue.

Model 10 is called Rayne from the neutral faction in Anima Tactics. Yes,

The Avatars of War stuff is fantastic. I want to paint each thing in the
line. So long as a FLGS stocks it, I think I'll be painting more in the future.

12 and 13

These are unit attachments for Dawnguard Sentinels.

WOW great stuff here, I especially like those round bases on the first few. Whats the measurements on those?

Warmachine and Hordes use a lipped base for all their miniatures.

Small = 30mm
Medium = 40mm
Large = 50mm

Cavalry models and heavy warjacks/warbeasts tend to go on Large bases.

14/15.

It took me a while to figure out which standard bearer was which. But a look at
the shoulder pads set them apart.

A Devastator.

Screwed up the model's build. There are pistons that extend the shield arms
lower, but I thought they were spiky bits and ignored them until it was too
late. I suppose I could have ripped the arms back off, but what would that
have accomplished? Just ripping for the sake of ripping.

It looks good with the arms positioned the way they are. I really like your orange Khador, the jacks especially jump from the background.

Bought a plastic set to paint up some Grey Company. Alternated a dark
grey and light grey on various parts of the cloaks and pants, and used the
light blue as a tie-in.

Actually, they match my trollkin scout scheme fairly closely, heh.

This next set of things will consist of Monsterpocalypse repaints. I generally like
the colors on Monpoc's miniatures, but with the apes I felt it needed some
highlights. The only thing I mostly left alone was the fur, except the bare
skinned portions which I inked.

75-80

I didn't like the all metal van, so I painted them gray and inked them. The windows
were painted blue. The Rockets were kind of funky looking, but separating the colors
on the barrels helped improve their look.

81-83

84 and 85

This is General Hondo. The first pic is of his regular monster form. The only
part I repainted is the armor. I added some layering to the green to make it
work better. The second piece is General Hondo's Ultra Form. If you don't
play Monsterpocalypse then I should explain that the ultra forms are the same
model except made in a colored resin. My thought with the ultra form was to
paint only the clothes but leave the rest in clear resin form.

Nice work on the ultra form. It is still recognizable as ultra, but the painted clothes work better on my eyes also. Great idea!

Thanks. One reason I never painted my Terrasaurs was they already came pretty
well painted. The ape guys, however, needed work.

Anyway, here's miniature 91.

Here's a hint: I paint lots of stuff in batches and trickle out the images so as to keep motivated

Miniatures 92 and 93 are from Reaper's Mousling Warrior series. In order
to get variety of fur colors while still painting up batches, I simply stick to
a single color while painting two or three models at a time. When I'm done
I hope they all end up looking unique rather than as if they were cookie
cutter painted.

I made this army profile here on Dakka. They're not new paint jobs, but putting
together the army profile itself can be a task.

Miniature 95 is from Anima Tactics.

I use single models to test out schemes for other models. So this is a
test scheme for some Stormtroopers/Imperial Guard that I wanted to
paint up.

96 and 97 are both Manglers.

I really like how the blue turned out. So much so that I want to paint more
just like it. Later this week: pics of Magnus.

Thanks for the compliment.

The variety has always been there with Warmachine. The only place you
didn't really see it was in the warjacks. Back in Prime, Cygnar started with
Stormblades, Trenchers, Arcane Tempest Gun Mages and Longgunners,
all different looking representatives of their groups. Within the faction of
the Protectorate of Menoth you had Zealots, Choir, Knights, and
Flameguard.

There's plenty of variety in the game.

105 -109

I picked up some of xenite's Trolls, and painted up a second squad
of Champions. The bases are oens he made out of Sculpey.

Having been cranking these dudes out all year, do you feel like you're still learning techniques as you go? Or in the least, are you finding ways to paint minis faster than you had in the past? I feel like they just get better and better as you progress. Congrats on the first 100! I'm still in awe of the motivation behind all those minis

Nice work on the Skorne, Zaal theme list is one that I have considered myself. It would make for a nice diversion to the beast heavy lists I have been making otherwise without giving up hitting power. And the wall of walking status would look cool on the table.

I never really mind some of the duplicate poses in Warmachine
units. It's not like you have too many duplicate units unless you're

Good to see another Zaal T4 out there. Think you might have gone a little heavy on the wash/dip there, but still doesn't look half bad.

Laughing Man: Yeah, I do put the ink wash on pretty thick. I try to
mitigate this by layering highlights onto them, but I'm not always
sucessful or neat.

to the miniature. The backdrop came with the portable studio

It might be a bit too big, but the immortals are supposed to dwarf a space marine, so you never know.

My only criticism is that you should go over your washes with a thinned down paint to make stuff like the capes and armor look more crisp. Its easier to show than describe but here goes:
Since shadows hit,for realism, paint after the washes and work your way into the crevices, then carefully wash the crevice with a brown/black or mix it with the color of the basecolor for more realistic blending, making sure the wash only stays in the recesses and doesnt escape back onto the cape. This can be frustrating at first, but well worth the effort. You should reference any pro paint job on the site, mine are good but no golden demons.l Other than that awesome job and keep it up!

Also, dont afraid to matte varnish, I noticed some of your skin is probably shinier than you want it.

I do highlight after washes. I just don't have patience for the
blending you describe.

I don't like Matte Varnish. I use a satin to help me remember
which miniatures are completed.

Sometimes it seems a bit much, but I rather like it. Maybe if I ever

What colour(s) have you used for your troll skin?

I use Reaper skin paints. For my standard troll it's Reaper Master Dark Skin.

For my albinos I use Reaper Master Olive Skin.

If you're unfamiliar with the kit, it comes with magnets so that
Belphegore, the Warbeast, can be set up to be either standalone
(in the pics where he's standing WITH Bethayne ) or MERGED WITH
Bethayne (you can see her legs in the second set of pics).

267: Legion of Everblight Scythean. I've tried stuffing it in foam. The thing is a monster.

This is a duplicate unit I picked up when my friend was getting out
of Trollbloods. The basing is work he did with Sculpey.

285 is Skaldi Bonehammer, the character unit attachment for the Trollkin Champions.

One of the selling points of this model was the fact that my friend
Aaron/xenite re-posed the arm so that it looks a little different from
the stock model.

289 is the Earthborn Dire Troll Mauler.

My other Earthborn was painted half stone/half flesh color, so I
decided to paint this one all the way stone.

Yep. I wasn't too interested in Grim until I saw the model.

291 is the alternate sculpt for Madrak. I feel like the sculpt is a huge
improvement over the original model, and makes me interested in playing
the warlock more often.

Some are. Or they pick up grains on bad primer. Not all of them are.

oh wow. I think that might be the first painted vessel out there. It looks really good man. The red on the priest helps him stand out where otherwise he might be a bit lost.
