Really great looking conversions. The storm trooper helmets scale nicely with the rest of the marine parts. Is the AT-ST a counts as Dred?
The weathering and scorch marks break up the white color scheme nicely and look well executed. Top notch work, this army is sure to turn heads.

Not a big fan of airbrush work (perhaps because I don't own one ^^), but these guys look really good. Even without drilled-out barrels.
The only thing I could really criticize are the speeders - while certainly looking good, especially the front part looks a little flat and could use some darklining.
Their heavy flamers, however, do look awesome. Wish I owned a new speeder... Why, can't have everything.
Your Land Raider, too, is awesome. The lenses are admirable - and the red stripes are top notch.
Is there more to come? And could we have some close-ups of the terminators?
Besides: what are you using for the light sabers? Are those Lego pieces I spy? ^^

The marines are quite good, the only things I'd suggest are again to drill the barrels, switch out the lightsaber as it looks a bit out of place, and maybe add some emblems/squad markings to give them a bit more contrast.
The vehicles completely blew me away. Very clean paint job, incredible weathering, and a very effective color scheme? Sign me up! I agree with Rogan that the speeders could use a bit more contrast up front. The rhinos too really. Maybe add a bit more of the red up front?
Interesting choice, covering up the rhino windows. It certainly doesn't look bad, but I am a bit curious as to why.

I love it!!!
Considering how much work can go into a custom army its not going to be perfect if you actually plan to play with them. Great work and will look awesome on the table.
Make sure the models are easily representing what they actually are. So for a Dread, the model should have some sort of similarity. Still, looks like you're doing just fine.
My only quip is the light sabar. Looks really icky. Way too thick and chunky and although "star wars", not really for a storm trooper. Maybe choose another type of star wars hand weapon? Plenty to choose from.

Post by: Ender6
Thanks guys! A great job by Next Level Painting! It was an interesting conversion based off of some groundwork done by Paulson Games' previous post from 2009. His pictures seem to be link broken but I gleened the idea of using the Star Wars Miniatures heads from the Dark Troopers on SM bodies, using the Empire Battle Wizard as the Emperor, and the Dark Angel Veteran body for Darth Vader. I did toy with the thought of using Galactic Empire decals on the vehicles but after seeing how awesome the vehicles were the possibility of unclean edges of the decals didnt seem worth it. I did have chessex make several dice with the Galactic Empire Symbol on them to keep the theme present. I really liked the idea of a clone force but there were a lot of mash-up conflicts between the Star Wars and 40k universes. Fortunately Vader did experiment with Force-Sensitive Stormtroopers so this did lend itself to be the basis for power/force weapons on SM Sergeants. The Imperial Shadow Guard and their Lance-Sabers seemed to fit quite well with Terminators. Although I am thinking of having the second batch of 5 termies painted in the more tradional red robes/armor. I am not sure I am too satisfied with the lego lightsabers. They are all magnetized so they can be swapped/stored easily. I looked at the neon toothpicks but couldnt find a good red to go with. I also tried different thickness of acrylic rods but they are very expensive to have colored red. Any ideas are greatly welcome. I covered the windows of the rhinos simply because I didnt like the "batman" eye cover feeling it had and styrene was a simple way to do it. I will have some WYSIWYG conflicts that may have simple fixes. I didnt model the SS on the termies, I may just have small shields that I put on the base to represent it but not take too much away from the fig. Also, since the SM's with ML's and Meltas can be swapped out for all Meltas to turn from a SM Vulkan list to a BA list; I may need to attach scabbards on their waist to represent the chainsword with the heavy bolter representing the bolt pistol for assault squads. I have magnetized the standard SM backpack to count as jump packs when used as BA assault squads, otherwise the standard tactical troops will remain without packs. Here is a closer pic of Darth Sidious and Darth Vader. I had to mess with the brightness/contrast for the Shadow Guard pic as the detail that was done with black is quickly lost with lighting for pictures. And the last three are my BA priests, Commander Thire, Captain Rex, and Commander Cody. Yes Rex didnt have a lightsaber, but some concessions had to be made to fit the constraints of 40k.

Once, many years ago I had a go at a star wars Marine army myself.
It was... not entirely successful, but there were a few things I used that did seem to work out well.
I made Speeder Bikes out of Marine Scout bikers but gluing them together without the wheels and using some toothpicks (but plastic rods would do better) and greenstuff (plasticard would be better) to do the forward vanes.
I managed to make fairly decent looking blaster rifles by using the muzzle of a lasgun and cutting off the ammo and sticking it on the guns side.
You can make a fairly decent AT-AA just by adding some sentinel legs onto a Whirlwind chassis. - Though admittedly, this was with the old Rhino.
I denoted my sergeants by using, what was, at the time, the Rank Markings for them by using Green Stuff on their shoulder pads.
There was also a Troop Carrier which I tried to convert from a Razorback.
Not to mention using (the metal) Dark Angel Robed Veterans with spears as Imperial Royal Guard.

So I saw this army at Genghis Con in Denver this past weekend and it looked even better in person. The thought that a space marine cannot look good without his shoulder pads is so wrong. I think that detail actually helps this army to look even because it really helps to set it apart from the other space marines even more, especially at first glance when the Star Wars influence is not immediately noticed.
In fact I recognized it from this thread but it didn't' register at first until a comment the OP said to me and then I saw the Darth Vader and Palpatine in battle and new what it was. Thanks for bring this out to the 'con and letting me peak at it while you played. And to the OP I hope it did well.

You don't have to be a jedi or sith to use one. But to use it to maximum effect and not have a fear of lopping off one of your own limbs it is best for a trained force user to wield it. After all Han Solo used a lightsaber on a dead tauntaun, so anyone can use it, but what you use it for makes a difference.
But I degress this is off topic. Unless to say a SP cannt use a lightsaber, considering their extensive weapons training and the length of their lives should allow them to have some skill with such a weapon.

Thanks for the compliments, I recently finished an add-on commission for this army. Featuring new dozer blades, landraiders, vindicator, terminators, dread, and a drop pod...pics comming soon.
He scored well on painting at the con, but the guy who won best appearance was this commission i did a few months ago
https://picasaweb.google.com/firelightpainting/BloodOrks#
The TO bared the star wars army from eligibility on the "best appearance", because the owner of this force was freely admitting to people that he didnt paint the army, and was even passing out business cards he got from me...While the other commissioner did the right thing in my opinion and didnt freely give out that info unless directly asked....He owns the force and as far as "best appearance" or "players choice" goes....the best looking army wins....it is different than "best painted."
Not to mention that both clients easily spent more hours converting and modeling these amazing armies than i spent painting them...its kind of funny that only the final act of applying the paint is all they care about in some places.

Dark Troopers .. pfff. If it wasn't in the original 3 movies it doesn't count. As far as I'm concerned, everything after episodes 4,5 and 6 was just means for Mr Lucas to fill his bank account.
Seriously, according to the books, comics, etc. Boba Fett falls into the Sarlacc 3 times, C3-PO comments about being naked and Greedo meets both Han Solo and Anakin Skywalker prior to the events of episode 4 .. c'mon.

Ho hum. Certainly eye-catching, very skilfully done. But it just doesn't do in my world. Those are neither looking like actual storm troopers, which would be cool, nor are they still looking like space marines, which is cool, too. They are something in between, that, despite all the work you put into them, is not even a tiny bit cool in my book.
I had thought about a Tau army converted to look star-wars-y, but I did not try it for the same reason: it will never do star wars justice, nor will it still be as cool as the 40k it was based on.
