I only change the Title because not alot of Responses, though I am trying to keep you guys up to date :(
Well, the goriest fighter is making a comeback, and I have to say, these X-Ray Moves are making me cringe. And this is coming from a guy who loves Splatterhouse, Gears of War, and Dead Space.
WARNING: NOT FOR THE SQUEAMISH!
Some comments: Only MK games I have played is MK1 and 2, along with VS DCU, and I must say, I hate what they did to Reptile...
My brother has been spamming my inbox for awhile now with game play footage galore. We used to be highly competitive with each other at the arcades for the first 3 MK games. I never really played any of those after that, but he played them all, even the mythologies.
With that said, I have been highly impressed with the previews of MK 9. Probably t=one of the best things about this game is the online competition. Arcades have all but disappeared and fighting games on consoles haven't been that great over the last decade. If you didn't have a group of friends at a house with a big screen TV, fighting games just didn't have the same feel that they had at the arcade.
However online fighting has gotten a lot better in the last few years, so here is hoping that feel of the first few games come back with MK 9.
That dude who made all those predictions about MvC3, Lupinko, has made alot of them regarding this game, too. Here is what he says:
Kintaro is in and is a boss
-Red woman is playable but has NO NAME YET
-Quan Chi is in
-Dan forden Returns
-Graphics update
"just to mention, whatever that was previous mentioned, due to UE3 graphics update, now looks reaaaaaally good"
-Sheeva in and has her skin rip fatality.
-Kabal in and has all of his MK3 moves.
-Shangs Alternate is an old man
-Krypt is back
-Shang Tsung has his soul steal special move again
-Sindel Fatality: Screma in one ear and the other side of the head explodes.
-Sonyas fatality, splits the opponent up with her legs.
-Sonyas alt: Cap, Sunglasses and a white tanktop
-Kano is still against sonya and jax.
-Sindel xray: crotch kick and snaps an elbow backwards then a throw
-Kano Licks his Knife (id immagine this implies hes in aswell)
-"damn him and his missiles and his hyakuretsu ken, and bicycle copter"-Sektor refference obveously. (OMG classic cyrax fatality to sektor!?)
-"yes, if you press start and down on the d-pad whenever I post, Robo-lupinko is unlocked"-SMoke? (So you get Robo-Smoke then?)
-a "Creepy Laboratory stage" where people are disected." (Casselman loses it, thats CLEARLY a Lin Kuei HQ where the Cyborgs are created)
Also sais a body hanging upside down with the chest open n skin stretched out is there.
-Raiden's Alternate is Black with Different lightning effects around his body.
-Earthrealm City in mid-merging with outworld.
-Classic Music is back (possibly unlocked)
-Johny Cage will fight Goro at some point (or at least hinted by a video link)
-Shao Kahn has taunts, a GREEN hammer and his upwards shadow dash.

This, however, looks really awesome. I'm hoping for some sort of character creation tool, though, but this time it had better be done right.
MK created.... or rather, Kreated the ESRB? I know Splatterhouse was the first game to have a "Warning: Mature Content" Label on it, but I never knew.....
I honestly don't see the appeal of Create a Character in fighting games. All your really doing is just putting a skin on another character, which is kind of scary.... seeing a big burly manly man waving his arms around like a chick (honestly, could you image someone like Nightwolf playing with his curves after ripping someone's head off?)
As of right now, I am looking at Sektor. Robots are cool, Ninjas are cool. Robot Ninjas? AWESOMESAUCE!

Mortal Kombat was, indeed, responsible for the ESRB (or the last straw, if you will, with games like Doom and Splatterhouse being the catalysts). It was the first game to really throw the media into a mass hysteria like it did, and due to it's widespread popularity, there were quite a few protests and attempted public lawsuits against the game. Out of this panic rose the compromise that games have an enforced ratings system to keep minors from being exposed to such content, and thus, the ESRB was born. It's arguably a good thing that Mortal Kombat was able to bear the brunt of this full-on media assault, or otherwise we probably wouldn't have half of the games we do today.
I remember this vaguely; it actually managed to be one of the biggest controversies of the 90's. I'm sure you can find information on it if you look.
As for Character creation, even a costume system with which you edit your chosen character's appearance would be fine with me. Costumes/character creation simply give you some sort of reason to keep playing (beyond simply mastering the game), and it gives you a memorable avatar to use in online battles. There's honestly no harm in it if it's done decently.

Huh, didn't know that, thanks
And I don't know, I saw too many KKK members on SoulCalibur to ever be appreciative of Character Creation as skin only. Now, if they let you change up and choose moves (Scorpions spear along with Baraka's Chop Chop Blades, for instance), that I could get behind.
Some big announcement is coming on Tuesday, I'll have it posted up as soon as I hear it.
Friendships are rumored to be in the game.
For those of you who don't know what Friendships are, they are basically a way to end the match, much like Fatalities, that don't actually kill your opponent. Johny Cage would hand them a autographed photo, Sub Zero pulled out a doll, all htat jazz.
Beer_&_Bolters wrote:Noob Saibot is looking pretty sick, some of those moves are just awesome.
Funny thing: Noob's X-Ray attack was censored. Now, having said that, go up and look at the video where Johnny Cage gets buzzsawed in half, and now ask yourself one question: What the HECK does Noob do to get censored?

I was rewatching that video last night and youre right, they cut out like the first second of the move. Makes me wonder what they might be trying to keep secret...

I'm told that teeth fly, but I don't know if there is any truth to it.
I have to say, after playing this game at PAX east, this is probably the most fun MK game that has come out yet. The attacks are crisp, clean, and well built. Johnny Cage and Kung Lao are stronger than they were previously, and seeing the game in 3D was a real treat. I never pay full price for a video game, but I'm changing my tune for this one. It's worth it. If you get a chance to sample it before it comes out, do it. And no, I didn't play the demo-I played the real game. Just didn't have the availability of unlockable characters to use.
Finally someone made this topic, I was wondering where the MK fans were at.
Netherealm has successfully stoked the flames of nostalgia, and so I'm set on pre-ordering this game. I'm really digging how it's so much like MK1-3 and Trilogy. I don't care for anything in the series after those games.
One problem though...WHERE'S RAIN!?!?!?
Also who you guys gonna main? For me it's def Noob Saibot.

I will have to play it first. Probably going to be Kratos though.
My brother got the demo last night. On PS3 you have to be a Playstation Plus member to get it. He said it was pretty damn awesome for a demo.
Asimo, there was talk of Rain coming in as DLC, because they're trying to get everyone from the first 3 games. Also, I asked one of the creators if there would be Kustom Kharacters, and he said "I can't talk about that right now." I'm sure if it was a "no," he would have said so. Hopefully that makes a few people here happy. I hope for Rain too-he's my favorite of the ninjas. As of right now, my main players will be Johnny Cage (favorite MK character ever), Kung Lao, Stryker (He IS in, I watched a battle with him and he kept all his old goodies), and Deadpoo-I mean, uh, Baraka
Having never played MK4 I have no idea what Quan Chi's deal is. Some people seem to hate him with a passion though.
Rain DLC would be swell, but I personally can't think of any other characters I would want, in fact with Rain I think we'd be missing no one from the MK1-3 days. I would however love DLC in the form of costumes, stages, fatalites, etc of course. Custom characters are kinda meh for me in fighters though in Soul Calibur 4 you could make some hilarious dudes.
Actually, still missing Motoro, Kintaro, Smoke as a playable character instead of just used as Noob's special moves, Jade (I think I heard she was playable though). If there is a 360 demo, expect it to be like the PS3 version: you have to be a gold member (most of us are though, because we have to in order to play online, so not such a big deal).
Quan Chi is a sorceror who kind of took over after Shao Khan's defeat and served Raiden's/Khan's father Shinnok-the cast out elder god. He starts out as the ultimate sycophant and eventually becomes the main baddy in Deadly Alliance. He's really a poor man's Shang Tsung with grey skin and tattoos (he also shoots fireballs). He doesn't do anything special, except his fatality in 4 was pretty cool: he ripped a guys leg off and beat him to death with it.
I like Kustom Kharacters because there can be plenty of options to add in: I think they just needed access to EVERY super move in the game to be effective: I tried to make a couple Marvel characters to add in, and my biggest success was Cyclops, and I was still unhappy because you had to choose a weapon and I could only make the optic blast purple. Give me access to all special moves and I'll be happy, even if limited to 4-5.
Jade is def in, the Noob Saibot videos has him beating the crap out of her. I forgot about all the beast guys, mostly because IIRC they were hidden/boss characters. But isn't Kintaro in? Also I'm positive Smoke is in. He has to be...or else!
Like I said, Smoke IS in...but ever since MK deception he has been an add on to Noob Saibot-he does all of Noob's special moves. He isn't his own character anymore. And I heard rumor of Kintaro and Motaro, but I haven't seen any screen shots of them. I saw: Johnny, Kung Lao, Liu Kang, Jax, Sonya, Kitana, Mileena, Stryker, 5 ninjas (6 if you count Smoke as mentioned above) and I saw quick videos for Raiden and Kabal. I played with Johnny, Kung and Liu and was impressed with all of them. Everybody else was using the ninjas, so I didn't want to waste my time with them. Characters have "tiers," but unlike warhammer armies in tiers, they are based on how easy they are to pick up: Kung, Sub Zero and Scorpion are lower tier because they are very easy to use and great for beginners, while Jax and Sonya are some upper tier characters who are hard to use but their damage output is far above the others. Got this from talking to developers and others at the convention.
OK gotcha on the Smoke thing. I do vaguely recall something called Noob-Smoke but I was past MK at the time. I'm still confused about his human/cyborg status and which version we'll get if he is included (I doubt they would tether him to Noob). Maybe we could get both versions.
Edit: Wait do we have definitive proof Smoke is in the game in any of his incarnations, whether as part as Noob or whatever it may be? From the Noob videos there didn't seem to be any indication of Smoke's prescence which leads me to believe he would be on his own if included.
Definite proof he is in-I saw him used, but he is tethered to Noob-he isn't actually playable directly, just as special moves: he helps Noob do his fatalities, his X-ray attack and there are a few regular special moves too. If I remember correctly, he's human again. Watch the Noob fatality online if you can find it: it clearly has Smoke involved with it-they rip a guy in half together. Instead of Robot Smoke, we're supposed to get "Robot Sub-Zero." Heard about this, haven't seen him yet, but he was widely talked about
Noob was always able to make clones, that inky shadow guy is just a part of him. It's a separate entity from Smoke. Interestingly in an interview with Boon he said he likes to imagine that the charcter you play as is "Noob" and the shadow clone is "Saibot".
Huh, I never saw him make clones before, he just did the moves himself in previous games. Then they added Smoke to his profile. Everyone there was telling me it was Smoke and they were still working together. Oh well, then maybe Smoke will be playable-wait and see I guess. That'll mean he and Rain are missing-I'd be more excited about Rain-I slaughtered everyone with him in Armageddon and Trilogy

Human Smoke is in; he has a Character Bio and a Arcade Ending. Haven't seen anything on him though, and honestly, there is a spoiler there that I don't really want to spoil for people; it's far, FAR too rich of a twist to spoil it.
Every character except for Rain that was in MK1-3 is in, Rain only getting taken out for Quan Chi, who is central to the story. He apparently pulled alot of strings in the background of the first three games; resurrecting Scorpion and convincing him Sub Zero killed him, establishing connection with Noob, that sort of thing. Rain has been confirmed as the FIRST and FOREMOST DLC character, however.
Also; There was a confirmation of a "Chainsaw Fatality" on the Australian Ban report, but if that means Ashley Willaims, Marcus Fenix (or similar), or even Kung Lao's Fatality, it's anyones guess.

You're overstating the importance of Mortal Kombat, to be honest. The Congressional Hearings used 4 games as the largest reasons why there should be a ratings board: Mortal Kombat, Doom, Lethal Enforcers, and Night Trap. Of those, only Night Trap was pulled from the shelves following the hearings.
I heard Onaga may be in, but I was hoping it was a fake rumor-we don't need the boss of Deception! We had been promised old school characters, and while I can see the importance of Quan Chi, introducing Onaga means a slew of other useless guys can make a comeback too. Ashrah? She's a copy of Fugin and Raiden-Wind (Fugin) with a big funny hat (Raiden). The vampire girl? Absolutely not. Bo Rai Cho? Hell no, lets forget about the drunk who just pukes on other people (even though I find the X-ray attack of Noob's that forces his opponent to vomit to be quite funny). There are plenty of characters we don't need, and we certainly don't need another boss from before the time of Shao Khan.

I will take as many characters as I can get. I would love to see a roster of 50+.
The Onaga rumor was posted by Ed Boon on his Twitter account and hinted at the possibility of Master Bo' Rai Cho as a playable character and also feature the Dragon King, Onaga: "OK, back to work. Gotta go balance Onaga's parry move and BoRaiCho's friendship. So much to do !!!"
Slarg232 wrote:Onaga and Bo Ra Cho aren't in. That was a "troll" tweet, he didn't mean it.
I have seen the entire list of characters, I just haven't updated the list in this thread.
Well that is good news. Like timetowaste85 said, if they were in it, it would open the game up to a bunch of useless characters. I like the classic feel to this new game since I really fell off the kombat wagon after MK3.
I wonder if there is going to be any secret characters that are not yet revealed? Sort of like the old days with Reptile, Jade, Rain, Noob, etc. I would like to see a few like that make an appearance and unlocked in the game about 6 months after release.

Yeah, two "secret" characters as of right now: Cyber Sub Zero, and Skarlett (real name unknown).
Or maybe we'll get trolled and she won't be in at all.
Oh Ed Boon you so crazy! But seriously give us Rain before all these other chumps!
Are there any other vendors giving out bonus fatalities with their pre-orders, or is it just Gamestop? And will these "exclusives" be unlockable in the krypt?
And for something kompletely different: Why does everyone pronounce Ermac like Ur-mac. Shouldn't it be Err-mac like in error macro? That was bothering me as a drove back from school...yeah I have odd thoughts.

I always thought it was pronounced Err-mac...odd do they really do a U sound?
Not sure about in-game but in most of the people in videos I've seen and plenty of people I talked to in person say Urmac. And for some reason that bothers me :/

Yes:
Amazon: Reptile Classic + Classic Fatality.
Target: Mileena Classic
Gamestop: Scorpion Classic + Fatality
Bestbuy: Sub Zero Classic + Fatality
Toys R Us (I think?): Kitanna Classic
Tournement Edition: Ermac (Err Mac) Classic.
Thank God Onaga was a joke. Same with Bo Rai Cho. Even if they become DLC in the future, I'll skip on them. BRC is a total joke and should never have been included. DLC brutalities and animalities would probably be a cool idea (and Rain had better be DLC!!!!!)

That has been my complaints for a few years now. None of the new characters were appealing at all. This one has a very classic feel to it.
As for the preorder characters + fatalities, does anyone know if they will be released as DLC eventually? I think it is pretty crappy that you can only get all of those extras by preordering from 6 different places...

I am 95% certain they are on the disk; one of the Challenge Tower missions is Retro Kombat; Retro Sub Zero vs Retro Scorpion. The only way to do that is if they were on the disk, and I think pre-ordering is just early access to them.
Challenge tower is 300 missions you can pick and choose to do.
NO GEARS OF WAR CHARACTER:
@Kaylila @TherealCliffyB you guys ever succed in getting a Gears Character as the X360 exclusive in the new Mortal Kombat?" Nope, we were too late.
He could be lying, though.
Also, he says: We were too late..... I wonder who beat them out?
That is good news. I really hope you can unlock everything by other means.
Hopefully they will get the Gears of War character or at least someone else.
Anyone getting the tournament edition? That arcade controller looks pretty sweet. I am thinking of using it to store quarters as a savings as well. Everytime I loose to my brother (Which will probably happen a lot) I will drop a quarter in the box.
Okay so the tournament edition is limited to 20,000 copies in the US. It is sold out online and gamestop has ceased taking preorders for it. My only choice is to camp at wal-mart now...
The tournament/arcade console is VERY hard to play on: they had it for demo at PAX East and the controllers were very difficult: the control stick is great, but the buttons are COMPLETELY different from the PS3 and 360 controls. If you like the feel of 360 and PS3, skip the tournament console piece. I tried it, and the only games I lost were on this because the controls are so awkward.

I am pretty old school. I never had any problems with the old arcades games and arthritis hasn't set in yet, so I am hoping it will work out.

So am I: I've played old MK games, SF and MvsC style games in the arcade when I was younger-but these buttons are spaced just right to be obnoxious, plus they are set up in different locations on the tourney console as opposed to the other two system controllers: if you're used to the tourney console and like them, you can probably handle it-if you are used to 360 and PS3 controllers, it'll be VERY hard to get down-I spent more time looking at the controller to make sure I was hitting the right button than I was looking at the screen: You have a Square setup for the buttons (instead of a diamond) with the block button dead center in the middle, with the shoulder buttons for x-ray attacks far away from the rest of the buttons. It isn't like the arcade controller I'm used to: but if you intend to use it, good luck. I'm staying well clear of it after my previous usage of it.
edit-Missed the picture above when describing. But it backs me up
I got a chance to play the demo today. Not too bad. I can honestly say this is the first fighting game I have liked in a long time. X-ray attacks look pretty good but hell they almost look like fatalities. I couldn't get the stage fatality for the forest to work, but the pit did. The toasty guy came out some times but I didn't know what to do when he came out.

Forest Fatality isn't in the Demo.
Toasty Guy's secret remains a secret, no one knows what to do with him.
Xrays can be used as fatalities (not so sure about how valid this is/EVERY attack can be used as a finisher...)

Yeah, we don't know if thats supposed to be the "big prize" though, because NRS said "It will be worth the wait to complete the 300 challenges, and people will be able to see it online".
Don't think it will be that, since they have constantly said they want a hyper competative, tourney worthy Fighter, while trying to dethrone SSF4. Can't really do that with a character no one will really play :/
Damn, them MK fanatics on the forum I'm watching for all this info are a bunch of babies..... "Kratos shouldn't be in the game, he isn't an MK character!", and then a Kratos Vid comes out "Kratos is AWESOME! But he shouldn't be available for Multiplayer, he seems overpowered!"
Nevermind we have only seen the one vid that shows him beating the snot out of someone, when that video is his Character Bio thing where EVERY character revealed has been beating the stuffing out of someone else......
While I don't own a PS3 the idea of Kratos being in seems kinda silly. It's like when they throw in all those odd characters in the Soul Calibur series Yoda, Link, Darth Vader, Heihachi, Spawn...
1.Scorpion
2.Sub-zero

27: Goro OR Cyber Sub Zero (If Goro, CSZ is a SZ alternate, if CSZ, Goro is in DLC pack 2)
28: Kratos/ Xbox Exclusive
You forgot Kratos Slarg232. Also asimo77, I know you think he is a silly addition, but I wouldn't compare him to something like Vader or Yoda. At least Kratos is the god of war, which does at least somewhat fit into the Elder God theme with Raiden, Fujin, and the rest. Different Pantheon, but at least it isn't some magical addition like Yoda.
Putting Kratos in the game is just as cool as putting someone like Ryu Hayabusa in, (Imagine him getting a klassic ninja suit like the rest? It would be like Noob's but blue all over!)
As for Rain, "On January 10, 2011, Ed Boon updated his Twitter asking for fans to weigh in on which characters they'd like to see as DLC: "Seriously guys. Tell me your order of preference for a DLC character. Rain, Shinnok, Kenshi, Robo-smoke, or new character?" "Ooops...forgot one. Or Tanya."
Well since I have a 360 I guess the Kratos thing is a non-issue for me. I guess when I play a MK game I want to be an MK guy fighting other MK guys. But if people enjoy playing Kratos good for them.
Also scans of those DLC lists are floating around the net, as well as other random tidbits like pics of what appears to be Smoke and Sheeva.
Kinda cool that they did the "alternate reality" thing since the Lin Kwei wanted to turn Sub Zero into a robot like Smoke, Cyrax and Sektor in MK3 and in this game they have that option possible, showing what would happen if he didn't escape with Smoke's (sacrificial) assistance.
The more I see about this game the more I want to play it. They really outdid themselves with this one. It wouldn't have been the same 5-6 years ago. The graphics for a 3D fighting game has only just now in the last few years become good enough to replace the old style characters from MK 1-3. It is part of the reason why Post MK 3 characters look so bad. The 3D graphics look extremely dated by the old 2D graphics still look good. The later MK games may have been good at the time, but the character models look really bland and lack detail now.
I saw someone say he looks like a Predator, and I agree.
Who is the character with the funny looking "hair" between Noob and Sektor? Is that Human Smoke with just bad imaging on the computer? I assume so, but if so, the smoke effect for hair looks bad here. That was the only character I had any question about who it was.
Slarg232 wrote:Well, it's Smoke, but he ain't human in this one.
That's all I'm gonna say about that.
Thanks, I'll be happy to stay surprised which form he is in this. And dammit, now they have all the ninjas EXCEPT Rain, so he'd better be in the second DLC since Kintaro, Kenshi (favorite in deadly alliance, but why is he here?!) and Scarlet are the first! Leaving only one ninja (arguably the most popular other than the Scorpion/Sub Zero loving kids) out is wrong! After Slargs confirmation that this character I asked about is Smoke, I need the 7th ninja.
halonachos wrote:And don't forget Kratos for the PS3 and maybe somebody for the 360 version, Clay Carmine would be interesting.
I like the X-ray moves, but I feel that they should be more like finishing moves instead of something you can just bring out in the middle of a fight.
Not a Gears character; Cliffy was tweeted "Did you guys ever get a character into Mortal Kombat?" To which he responded "No, we were beaten out by someone else."
No one knows who, and no one on the Mortal Kombat forums I frequent for this info seems to be able to read past "No". They are all celebrating that the 360 Version is "Pure", despite the fact that the bolded part means there is a guest character....
From what I heard the Xbox is getting an exclusive "something", not necessarily a character. So maybe a stage, fatality, concept art, who really knows.

Like Slarg232 said, it is smoke. Here is a better picture of him:

I'm pretty sure this young lady will use her four arms to beat you a new one for insulting her by calling her a "guy" That's Sheeva. Had a bit of trouble at first with that one myself, but figured it out eventually. The forehead area is the dead giveaway.
Wow, editing screwed up. And I got Ninj'd! How appropriate when half this topic has been about a missing Ninja...

Since Smoke hadn't been revealed, but Noob had, everyone assumed it was Smoke.
I try to tell those bastards at that forum this, and I get "THERE WILL BE NO XBOX EXCLUSIVE, GET OVER IT, I DON'T WANT ONE, I WANT A PURE MORTAL KOMBAT, MY OPINION IS VALID, YOURS IS FALSE, YOU SUCK, GO DIE IN A GREASE FIRE!"

Sounds like some PS3 fanboys rubbing the Kratos thing in their face to me. I am a PS3 fanboy, but I have never went to that level. I really think that if you get and exclusive you should just count yourself as lucky. Remember how everyone was over the expansions for GTA IV? 360boys were a lot like the ones that you are describing on the MK forum.
It is so sad. MK I for Sega had Blood. MK I for SNES had a better graphic port. I am just waiting for the final battle where we use the console as shields and our controllers as weapons.

From what I have been told, getting punched there is painful for them too. Just not as painful as it is for us.
Oh, and Character Loading Renders:
You know.... After thinking about it, my two favorite characters have GOT to be Kabal and Mileena. Mileena is just a very well done character, and Kabal, lets face it, he's a Cripple who whips the heck out of people, and he looks brutal doing it.
Bleh I never liked Kabal, he's at the top of the bottom with Stryker, Cage, and Kano for me. You know I don't think I liked any of the plain ole regular humans.
Mileena on the other hand I agree with. I never cared for the ladies in MK, but maining Mileena is looking like an attractive option.
The guys I'm considering maining (in no particular order) are:
Noob
Kung Lao
Mileena
Cyrax
Shang Tsung
...and Rain if he shows up
The reason I like Mileena is because she is one of the few Femme Fatals that actually has a reason to dress the way she does. Her face is hideous, and so she hides it behind her veil and her scandolous body. If your going to make a character who is dressed like that, a Mileena-esque character is the way to go.
As for your Main, I've heard Kung Lao is supposed to be one of the "Newb Friendly" fighters, who isn't quite so hard to get the pain train going, but doesn't have quite the strong pain train as some of the other characters. Personally, other than Mileena (mine, get your own wimminz!), the only character on your list that I am looking at is Noob.
Shang Tsung has his Soul Steal move that copies the other character, so I wouldn't use him until you get decent with every other character in the game.
And now, some Facts about the game, as told from a Russian Game Magazine Dude:
- Smoke's alt is his Lin Kuei uniform. But it doesn't look like retro ninja outfit.
His moves are full of special smoke effects. He throws smoke bomb under the enemy (it works like Noob's hole), he can perform teleport punch as Scorpion. X-ray seemingly connected with his teleport somehow. Possibly he can perform it only after teleport. Also he can evade projectiles with some specail effects.
- there is only one kind of koins. But prices in the Krypt are very high.
- Sheeva is the tallest kombatant in the game. But she is quite plain and feels "MK3'ish". Just like Sonya.
- it seems all characters have uppercut and sweep moves.
- each chapter in the story mode consists out of five-six battles.
- damage system doesn't work in the story mode. Damage on the characters appear only when it's story relevant.
- Characters change their costumes depending on the plot.
- Approximately story mode takes 6-7 hours to complete.
- Kintaro fights just like in the MK2. He has very evil X-Ray and it's hard to evade his teleport.
- editor likes characters voices in the story mode. Especially Sindel one.
- Normal difficulty is harder, then difficulty in the demo.
- Cyber Sub-Zero plays like combination of Sub-Zero, Cyrax and trick-kicks.
- hairs are not ideal in the game. But most likely looks better, than before.
- Jade's intro: she throws razorang to the right and then catches it, when it comes from the left. Then she says something like: "It will be easy!"
- Jade's wining pose: she whirls around pole and sits on the gorund.
- Scorpion's fire kick is part of the combo like before.
- Mileena's Flesh Pit costume: she not naked!! She wears some sorts of bands like Leelu form Fifth Element (look at the leaked Flesh Pit concept in the nearest tube you will see it).
- Sindel has her hair throws.
- Shao Kahn's second Fatality is disgusting.
- Tormentor somewhat parodies Godzilla (?)
- Scarlet and Kitana in her alternate could be seen in the chains on Kahn's Colliseum.
- Characters apparently have different winposes in the Challenge Tower.
- All characters are open by default, except for CSZ and Quan Chi.
- Sheeva has low throw. And skin rip Fatality.
- Only Fatality accesible in the training mode.
- Kratos - the shortest and the smallest character in the game.
Next information is supposedly from someone who talked with this guy.
- Sheeva is heavy and her combos not very useful.
- Her second costume: she has braid and black face paint. Also her winning pose is sexy.
- Sheeva is a grappler. She has air throw like Jax, distance throw like Millena and she can grab ducking opponent. In her second Fatality she claps herself with opponent's riped arms.
- Sindel use hairs in combos and in X-ray. She has low and high projectiles. In the air she can throw projectiles close and far Also she can fly, but like in the MK3, you can only shoot projectiles while doing it.
That's all some sweet info, but could you clarify on these two? What's the Tormentor? And are certain fatalities only available in training mode? That seems rather strange.
Also thanks for the tips on the main. I used to play Shang a lot in MK2-MKT but I might pass on him in this game. I love Noob mostly because my older brother loved older Sub (and consequently Noob) and being an impressionable youngster at the time I did everything my older brother did. So now I'm a Noob fan (also older Sub>>>>younger Sub :p) Too bad Noob seems like a scrub magnet, and maybe even Kung Lao too, to a less extent. Normally this wouldn't bother me but I think I might go for Mileena and Cyrax to be different. I mean honestly does anyone main Cyrax?

I think the Tormentor is the giant chained goliath in the back of one of the stages, I'll try to find a screeny of it.
Pause at 0:09
Also, from what I have heard, you can only access one fatality in Training Mode, another one is purchasable in the Krypt but unpracticable in Training, and then there are Secret -alities and rumored Friendships.
Noob is one of the more popular choices on the forum I am visiting, but I think that was because all the polls on it came out right when his video did . From what I have been reading, it's about even all around, but quite a few people have expressed interest in playing one of the three Robots. Most people who play as one of the Robots have expressed that the other will be their Tag Team mate.

Man, and Asimo I thought I considered you a buddy of mine...then you said you didn't like Stryker or Cage. That hurts man...those are my two favorite guys in the game. Harsh. And Kano...Kano is awesome and has great range. Kabal I agree is "meh"...but Stryker and Cage rock. Harsh. If they finally get Rain in there, those would be my three top picks. As of right now, Kung Lao is temporarily (I hope) replacing Rain until DLC.
Stryker was just a fat cop who tried to be edgy by wearing his hat backwards (someone needs to inform him that he has put his hat on wrong in MK9). To his credit he is cooler this time around and less Woody Harrelson-esque (though that's not a bad thing).
He just seems so...mundane. Everyone else can steal souls, shoot ice, fire rockets, and have blades for arms but all Stryker has is a gun, a taser, and a couple of grenades.
As for Cage I hate him because he's a douche-bag, but given his charcter design I say that reaction is exactly what they were going for. So I hate Cage in a good way if that makes sense.
I think I hated Kabal because back in the day I couldn't tell what the hell he was suposed to be. Maybe some kind of dystopian future gangster with a gas mask? Weird.
Kano...Kano just has knives...Ok he rips your heart out which is awesome. Maybe I don't like him because he was such an idiot in the movie.

I think that's supposed to be the appeal of Stryker; he's just a normal cop thrown into a Gak-hit-the-fan-and-was-shot-around-the-room situation. Everyone else can hurl lightning from their eyes (or fireballs out their arse). Stryker? He's the normal guy with the gun.
Agreed on Cage. I like his playstyle, since I typically enjoy Offensive Rushdown Characters (Cage, Kabal), or Defensive Characters (Sub Zero), but his character is someone I want to beat with a.... very beaty thing.
Kabal back in the day was supposed to be a desert raider; his entire design was based off of a Tuskan Raider from Star Wars. In this one, he is supposed to be

Spoiler:
Strykers Partner
Oh YES I did! And yeah, Stryker is a BAMF (see Dane Cook skits for reference) because he's a regular guy and everyone else has powers. Johnny Cage is supposed to be an arrogant, self-aggrandizing prick, and that's why he's so awesome: he's such a douche you have to love him.
I just want to know how some fat cop became one of Raiden's chosen warriors. "Hmm I have a few Shaolin monks, a guy with metal arms, a couple ninjas, what am I missing? Oh yeah a cop :/"
Anyway, kinda off topic but if you haven't heard Reptile's new theme song you really should here it is:
@Slarg232: Sweet. Just what two weeks until we get it?

Obviously you haven't seen the cops on my local police force. If I can find some pics of them I will post them. Stryker is pretty awesome compared to them.
Also does anyone else think Jack Burton would make an awesome DLC character?
Here he is getting ready to turn around and beat down a Shokan.
All you have to do to get him in the game, is to take his truck from him.
Now...this may get a facepalm, but...who the hell is Jack Burton? Does he matter even a little bit? Why should he be in this game? I hope you're joking, because Mullet-boy has no place in my favorite fighting game
timetowaste85 wrote:Now...this may get a facepalm, but...who the hell is Jack Burton? Does he matter even a little bit? Why should he be in this game? I hope you're joking, because Mullet-boy has no place in my favorite fighting game
Where is the disbelief orkmoticon?!!!
Wait a sec, you are probably younger than me, heck I was 6 when the movie came out. That could account for not knowing who the Great Jack Burton is so I will have to enlighten you.
First off, Jack Burton is played by Kurt Russell and stars in the movie Big Trouble in Little China. The movie was directed by the Great John Carpenter who is also known for the original Halloween, Escape from New York , The Thing, Christine, Prince of Darkness, In the Mouth of Madness, Escape from L.A., Ghosts of Mars, and Vampires just to name a few. If you know of these movies, then you probably just got a little mahogany, (which is only relevant if you seen Vampires...)
So you are probably wondering what does this have to do with Mortal Kombat? Well here is is, Shang Tsung was inspired by David Lo Pan. The creators of Mortal Kombat claimed they also based Raiden's character design on The Three Storms, Lo Pan's three servants from the film Big Trouble in Little China.
Yeah, I'm 25 and haven't seen those movies at all. Well, to each their own, but I wouldn't care about having him as a character in my game. The mullet man...the shame.
timetowaste85 wrote:Yeah, I'm 25 and haven't seen those movies at all. Well, to each their own, but I wouldn't care about having him as a character in my game. The mullet man...the shame.
Remember if you was 25 in 1986, you would probably have a mullet.
Do try and watch those movies though. They are classics.
Seriously, you haven't seen the original Halloween?
So apparently, certain Gamestops (I have heard of one in NY) are likely to break the Street Dates for this game. Keep your eyes peeled if your interested.
The Gamestop in question is recieving it's shipment 10 days in advance (this Saturday), so like I said, keep your eyes peeled.

Pretty ballsy if they do, the Wal-Mart in my town once released a game a day or two early and there was hell to pay-their new games don't show up to the store now until the midnight that they are due out to prevent it in the future. But used game stores in the area do sometimes sell a day early (the Gak hit the fan over Black Ops being released early). So much for waiting until the same chance everyone else gets, huh? Well, if I have to work that the 19th I will be visiting FYE for my copy right afterwards, and if I don't work I'll be waiting for the manager to open the store for me right at 10

It's not actually gamestop, my bad. Its smaller, home grown companies that need to compete with the likes of Gamestop, and so are selling it early to give them an edge. Still, best to keep an eye out....
Some Brazillian got a pirated copy (Apparantly that's a big thing down there), and he uploaded Smoke Gameplay to Youtube. Don't know how long it's going to last, so best look at it now
I really like the way it looks he plays. He might challenge Kabal for me, it all depends.
Found a video of ONLY the fighting, so I swapped them out.
asimo77 wrote:I used to ignore Smoke, neither disliked nor liked him, but this time around I might use him. Unless he goes robot again, then I'll pass.
He seems like a very frustrating opponent, in a good way; smokes around, pops out to hit you once or twice, smokes around again.
Everyone on the site is listing him as a candidate for very high top tier, along with Kabal, Jax, Johnny Cage, and Cyrax.
Lord Scythican wrote:Can you hit him while in smoke form? (Video is blocked for me).
Doesn't look like it, no. Sektor throws a punch, with which Smoke Smokes his way behind him, avoiding the blow and launching on of his own that connects.
His Move List:
Turns into a puff of smoke and moves behind the opponent while Invulnerable.
Turns into a puff of smoke and moves backwards while Invulnerable.
A Teleport similar to Scorpions that hits twice.
Smoke Bombs which teleport enemies into the air right in front of Smoke.
Some sort of Counter the player never gets off.
And a Jump kick of sorts (That's what I've heard, haven't seen it in action).
Lord Scythican wrote:This game keeps looking better and better. Any more news about an exclusive for the 360?
Nothing new, the rumor going around is Skarlett being free, an Exclusive Stage, and Puzzle Kombat, but Ed Boon tweeted "You shouldn't beleive everything you read" to four people when they asked him about it, and with CliffyB saying "Someone Else beat us to it", it really makes me think Xbox got an actual exclusive character, not just a free download.
Say this on the forums, though (like I have, a good five times), and you get either completely ignored, or "OMG XBOX ISN'T GETTING AN EXCLUSIVE NOOB FETHING DONKEY CAVE!".
I highly doubt 360 gets anything at all. Marketing will always trump any silly PR/Boon-trolling, and so if there was an exclusive it would have been announced a while ago to garner more pre-orders.
It's too close to release for them to release any info and expect a sales boost...or maybe they have an awful marketing team and we do get something hidden.

I doubt there is anything, too. I just kind of find it fun speculating, that's all.
From the sounds of it, Sony payed NRS or WB, one of the two, for increased Marketing over the Xbox 360, maybe that's why nothing was released/a Demo came out for the PS3 and not hte Xbox?
You know something? I wonder if they might get an exclusive character as DLC later on? The game is set up to have new characters added to it through DLC, so I see no reason why they couldn't get an awesome character in a month or two.

That....

Lord Scythican wrote:Let me know what they think and if you need a wingman, let me know what the site is.
I get the feeling, they are going to feed us with a ton of characters over the next year. I can see myself investing $150.00+ into this game + DLC.
EDIT: www.trmk.org is blocked for me at work...
It's TRMK.
And.... first response was "It is better without an Exclusive!", which I was expecting, honestly.
How could it be better without an exclusive?
You know this reeks of bitterness. 360fanboys were fine with rubbing exclusive content in everyone's face when they got it (GTA IV and many other games), and now they they don't they act like they don't want it! What gives?
Honestly I would love to see like 10 exclusive characters on each system. I would buy both games!
It's actually divided equally; Half the PS3 people hate Kratos because he is a guest, the other half love him being in the game, as it will boost sales and increase the fanbase. Half the Xbox 360 users hate not having a Guest because it's not fair, and the other half love having a pure MK game.
But I mean everyone of those PS3 people who hate him are thinking about picking up an Xbox solely so they don't see him in the game

And this isn't including those who don't care.
Wow, seriously? I didn't know they were split like that and for those reasons.
I usually do not like guest characters like Yoda and Darth Vader in what was it, Soul Caliber IV? But Kratos actually makes at least some sense. I mean he is the God of War. He may be from a different pantheon and have a different portfolio, but he is similar to Raiden in a lot of ways. I wouldn't mind someone like Odin or Krishna showing up too.
Heck Sheeva is probably based (the design and name) from the Hindu deity Shiva.
Slarg232 wrote:And the next two replies were "Umad........" and "You will get NOTHING AND LIKE IT! Kratos FTW!"
Wow...those kind of fanboys give PS3fanboys a bad name...
Well to hell with them. I am pretty sure everyone will be happy with whatever they get. I really wish people would quit this Sega Vs. SNES debate, because that is all this really is. Same story, different systems.
Again I think if we got DLC exclusives it would have been announced already. I kinda hope we don't get anything, I like having only MK characters. And TBH I feel like when one console gets exclusive stuff it's kind of a slap in the face of the other console users.

Some of the newer posts look promising;
Spoiler:
It certainly is possible. I think they will look at PS3 sales vs. 360 before they try that. If PS3 REALLY outsells 360 and it's obviously because of Kratos, there's a better chance of it happening rather than if the sales are fairly even.
Spoiler:
it would've been perfect for epic and netherealm to include a gears character. the reason being the gears beta starts on the 19th april and as you all know very well mk is released that day. it would've been great marketing between epic and nr to promote sales of bulletstorm epic edition and gears of war pre-orders which are ways of entering the beta. also i think having one of the most iconic xbox exclusive characters on mk would only help with the games popularity and sales. i really don't understand why they didn't go ahead with this.
Spoiler:
I believe other than the avatar support that has been confirmed with the KE and TE editions there won't be any exclusive content of any kind for the 360. Sony struck a deal that got them the demo all to themselves before launch, an exclusive character and arena, and an exclusive DLC in the Blu-Ray versions for the MK movies for a Jade alternate costume. I believe the quote of "everyone will be happy with what they get" (paraphrasing) was just a way to try and dodge any questions about the 360 version instead of just saying point blank what was going on.
Yes, I know there will be 500 responses of "well....ummm...MS got COD maps early and GTA content early...so it serves you right." One situation has nothing to do with the other. Contrary to popular belief not everyone plays or really cares about COD and GTA. The majority of the exclusives that MS gets are just timed exclusives. The majority of exclusives that PS3 gets are exclusive to that system.
Also the one thing that I am expecting to happen is that any DLC will get to the PS3 first and 360 later. Think about it, why would they strike such a lucrative deal and not want to include post-launch DLC in that? Just something to think about.
Spoiler:
Good point mate I think that's one of the possibilities that's kinda likely, I reckon they'll get a stage and maybe a free DLC character then again who knows? Ed Boon is such a troll ahaha he brushed off the Ermac and Goro leaks, but they turned out to be right...we'll just have to wait
Oh and this is aimed at the people saying 'U Mad' or 'PS3 ftw!!!111one1!!' - Seriously you guys need to mature a little, you make me understand people who say young kids shouldn't play vdeo games as much =/ Take off your headset, step outside and learn some social skills as you clearly didn't even read what Demetrius was saying...

True, but I still think it's nice to speculate, it takes my mind off of other things, and it's not deconfirmed yet.

I agree. I didn't like what they did with GTA IV, Modern Warfare 2, the First Strike Map Pack for Black Ops, and Fallout New Vegas. I remember going to gamestop to get those games, and the rep was like "You should get the xbox version, it will have exclusive DLC rights way before the PS3 does." I told him I only buy 360 games when I can't get them on PS3 because the less I use it, the less of a chance I will have for the RRoD.
Besides I don't like supporting games that do these tactics. Usually if I have the choice, I buy the version that doesn't get the exclusive content. Mortal Kombat will be the only exception for me, because I prefer to use my 360 as little as possible.
If I could get a cheap PS3 (new/working well) I would get MK9 on it, both for Kratos and for the controller, because I prefer the PS controller over the 360 for fighting games (but not other games). But I'm not going to buy a full priced PS3 for one character in a game and BluRay capability, especially when the game is available on the system I already have. Am I a bit disappointed not to have access to Kratos? Sure, I think he's pretty cool. But it isn't the end of the world. I think that Mortal Kombat should stay fairly true to itself and not intermingle with other games (see the disaster of MK vs DC), but I approve of the concept of "Kreate a Kharakter," like in Armageddon. I also spoke with a developer at a game convention who "couldn't comment on whether 'kreate a kharakter' was in the game or not." Take it as you will, but I'm hoping it's in because I loved making Nightcrawler back in Amageddon and beating my friends with teleporting attacks. It just needs bigger support and more special options for attacks. But back on topic, I don't mind not having an exclusive character, so long as we get to kreate again. Just my .02

I wouldn't mind Kreate a Fighter either, but I do have a funny story to tell about TRMK;
Back when I first joined, everyone said "All characters after MK3 sucked, other than possibly Quan Chi, who was story centric. Everyone just had other people's powers/were copies of other characters, like Frost and Smoke."
So after reading this a good 20 times in completely different topics, I made a post called "Kharacter Kreation Kompitetion!" with the following rules; Can't use another characters power, has to have at least three powers drawn in stick figures, and at least one fatality. If we get enough votes on ONE concept, maybe we could send it in to Boon to see if this Fan Made Character could be turned into a real Fighter! (No Garruntees, though, it would ultimately be up to NRS if they want to do anything like that).
Well, after posting that, it got 200 Reads, 0 Responses. So, after seeing a fair few more people saying "All Characters after MK3 sucked!" I started linking them back to the thread. No one has yet to Kreate a Kharacter for the thread, and everyone has mysteriously stopped saying Post MK3 characters suck
I don't know if anyone's posted this information, but there is a series of 'exclusives' available.
Gamestop Preorder= Scorpion Classic Outfit and Fatality
Best Buy Preorder= Sub Zero Classic Outfit and Fatality
Amazon Preorder= Reptile Classic Outfit and Fatality(IIRC)
Wal-Mart Preorder= Mileena Classic Outfit
Toys R Us Preorder= Kitana Classic Outfit
Buying the Mortal Kombat Blu-Ray nets you the Jade Classic Outfit.
PS3= Kratos
360= None so far, if any character is added in I would prefer Clay Carmine.

A little mix of both would be fine with me. They have really went all out on this game. I would sink $150.00 in it for sure, and that is saying something since I rarely get DLC.
That's good news. I think the outfits will be unlocked in-game rather than DLC. Boon has stated they aren't doing on-disk DLC and the klassic outfits are clearly in the game (in the Challenge Tower).
Most 'exclusives' are either not exclusive or will come out later on as DLC. Gamestop just likes to say that they offer 'exclusives' so others have to compete.
Well to be fair to Gamestop the wording on the pre-order bonuses is "unlock" (as in unlock something already in-game) so you could argue that they aren't tricking anyone into thinking it's exclusive.

Dark Skin, but not black, is indeed the sexiest skin color, not going to lie. This doesn't bother me (Pose, I mean), I still like Mileena more.
I think I hated Jade because back in the days of MK2 she would always kick me and my brother's asses all the time...stupid secret characters. Though to be honest the AI always beat us up good. It also didn't help that no one I know, including myself, is any good using Jade.
I am having a hard time disliking anything about this game. I would rather Jade had a more squat plus quick stand, and a little bounce to something...but this will do....
Thanks for keeping us updated Slarg. How did that thread go over the mortal kombat forums? More "USad?" "PS3 rules", "I would rather have a pure Mortal Kombat game!"?
asimo77 wrote:Man I even hate cops in real life. I don't think there's anything NR can do to make me like Stryker. Though if he fixed his hat it would be a start.
My dad was a "cop" before, so I might try him out on principle. I think the only character I really DON'T want to play/am not interested in is Nightwolf.
Lord Scythican wrote:Thanks for keeping us updated Slarg. How did that thread go over the mortal kombat forums? More "USad?" "PS3 rules", "I would rather have a pure Mortal Kombat game!"?
Not a problem. As for that thread, it devolved into a flame war and then a Mod came in and said "No flaming people, this is the first and only warning", didn't lock it, and everyone stopped posting.
As for human Cyrax and Sektor if you look closely both have some sort of contraptions around their wrists, so maybe thats where the nets, and stuff come out from. Cyrax also has bombs on his belt, and Sektor has a tank on his back which I'm guessing has the flamethrower fuel.
Still have no idea where the missiles come from...
Finally Mortal Kombat Legacy and like a 3 hour livestream are up on Machiminia's Youtube channel.
But then they'd look too similar to Scorpion and Ermac.
Anyone find it weird that their names (or codenames?) were Cyrax and Sektor before they were robots? Maybe the Lin Kuei were planning robotization for a while...
I was interested in this game, and now that I see stryker is in it I'm totally psyked (har har). I think I'll be bringing my ps3 to quakecon this year for some mk throwdown.

True, but I would want that option for every ninja.

Not a clue on the missles, but I know Human Cyrax Teleports by poofing into green fire, which isn't his Rip Apart Teleport that his Robot Form has (He completely disassembles and then reassembles behind them).
The more I hear about this game, the more excited I become. I was a die-hard MK fan ever since I started playing (played the first one when I was 7 or 8 at a friend's house and my parents grounded me when they found out I played such a violent game. Hehe) and nothing has changed since. This is probably the first video game I have bought at full price (other than one mistake game) rather than used because I don't want to wait any longer. EA really doesn't need to add in the "online play" cost to used games, because most people who want to buy it new will do so, most people who won't buy it new won't. That's that. But this game is DEFINITELY worth buying new to me. Having played the game already with 16 characters...yeah, it's awesome and worth it.
You know Babalities were my least favourite"ality" but they are so much better now that there are little extra animations thrown on for each character. While I prefer Friendships it's nice to see that not everyone has the same generic transformation. Also looks like we get 3 Fatalities per character plus the Babality which is pretty awesome.
Wow great job NR you actually made me like Babalities with this game!
There's also a livestream on Gamestop, they're showcasing so much stuff. I'm also happy that we have that particular Mileena alt, one of two costumes I hoped made it. The 2nd costume I hope we get is Sub's Deception alt with the Shredder helm and fur.
Awesome! Babalities are great! They always sapped those guys who were too serious about the game. I remember seeing people almost "get off" when preforming some fatality. You could see it in their eyes. However if you pulled a Babality on them you could see their soul crush. Awesome.
Scorpion's alt looks really good too. The skulls on his forearms are pretty nice looking.
Lord Scythican wrote:That's awesome. I really like noob and smoke's alts. I liked smoke's hair, but I wanted the option for a mask too. I know it is silly...

asimo77 wrote:Oh man I think I'm gonna have to stop looking up MK online. I don't want to spoil everything for myself!
Yeah, I've seen most characters 2nd Fatality, including Cyber Sub Zero's. I'm getting to the same point; only thing I'm looking up from here on is babalities.
These Babalities are better than I expected, though Kano is one of the ugliest babies I've ever seen... but Kabal would be horrifying. I wonder if using an alt matters? For example if you Babality human Cyrax I wonder if he turns to a tiny robot...
Here is a question for some of you MK9 fans. Would anybody be willing to trade me my Scorpion classic skin for reptile? I like both sub-zero and scorpion how they currently are. But reptile just doesn't feel ninja enough for me >.<

I would say "No", solely going by the fact that they completely changed the in fight animations for those two when they are Humans over when they are Robots. Cyrax puffs green flames when he teleports, for instance. I don't know for certain, though.
xlightscreen wrote:Here is a question for some of you MK9 fans. Would anybody be willing to trade me my Scorpion classic skin for reptile? I like both sub-zero and scorpion how they currently are. But reptile just doesn't feel ninja enough for me >.<
I would if I had a Reptile Code. If you have a TRMK account, they are currently having a Pre-Order Code swap going on, where you can ask people for pre-order codes.
Though we are 85% certain they are in the Krypt.
black templar wrote:Scorpion is the best out of them all.
His Babality, or just in general?
Personally, I like Cyrax's Babality. It's cute and it's in character.
In General, though, Scorpion is eclipsed by Kabal in being the best. This is my opinion, and my opinion is law.
Awesome vid. Just one question, what exactly does Shang Tsung do in his X-Ray? Does he just force his hands through his opponents chest O_o if so that's gnarly.
I would have much preferred an animality or a brutality, but I can handle babalities I guess. They're a lot better than they were, but I still prefer the other two types I think. Yes, a babality is insulting to your opponent, but the other two are a lot more badass.
asimo77 wrote:Awesome vid. Just one question, what exactly does Shang Tsung do in his X-Ray? Does he just force his hands through his opponents chest O_o if so that's gnarly.
I think he stole their soul. Not sure though...
As for Brutalities, I really hope they incorperate X-Ray attacks into them. Like Punch-Punch-Punch-XRAY KICK TO THE CHEST!-Punch-Punch-Punch-X-RAY LEG BREAK!
With it going into Slowmo for the X-rays, like normal X-rays.
Considering how fast everything else got discovered I would imagine that if there were Brutalities we would have seen them by now. I think the audio-files pulled from the demo might have been a red herring.
asimo77 wrote:Considering how fast everything else got discovered I would imagine that if there were Brutalities we would have seen them by now. I think the audio-files pulled from the demo might have been a red herring.
Not necessarily; people are mostly going by previous games as to how to pull things off (secret fights and stuff), not to mention that the Krypt has only been unlocked 15% of the way by most people.
I know I said I wasn't going to post anymore, but I have been waiting for a long time to see Cyber Sub Zero in action, and I finally got a Combo Vid, and I figured I would share the love:

I'm not a 'gamer' and suck royally at any console based games, heck even pc games i'm rubbish, but this game looked sooo good and had such a history that I had even convinced my gf to let me buy a ps3 just so i could play it, and then...... I find out it;s BANNED IN AUSTRALIA! I am so sad right now :-( so sad I couldn't even be bothered using the Orkmoticon with the tears......:-(
Well I got it last night at 12:00. Me and some of my friends were drinking a little so I didn't feel like playing it last night. I started it up this morning though and I am halfway through the story mode. Pretty good game so far.
Damn you!.......so jealous right about now, even though i'd struggle getting off the main screen.....damn you!....in the nicest way possible of course!
Yeah, most North American games are NTSC. For the rest of the world, it's PAL. However, this region encoding is up to the publisher to do so, you *may* get lucky.
Are you willing to spend the $$ to find out? Probably not.
Maybe someone could film themselves playing a game with their friends and randomly cry out "oh wow Damo that move you did was sick!" and other such comments made when playing games with their bro's and then email it to me so i feel like i'm part of the action and actually playing it? :-)
Well I tell you all what...Shao Khan is a cheater. His x-ray does 52% damage where yours does 17%. About half of your attacks do not connect because of some yellow flash that makes him invulnerable. Man he is worse than M. Bison. I have played the story mode for about 10 hours and I finally gave up on Khan. I fought him about 20 times and never even beat him once out of three rounds. My thumb is pretty sore too. I am right at the end of the MK 3 story so I now the story mode is about over, but I am calling it quits for today. Shao Khan cheats bad...
I agree that Shao Kahn was made ridiculously annoying to beat.
All of your moves do a little less if not equal to half damage against him. His moves do 200% of the damage you would see from a standard attack. He throws a hammer that you cannot duck under or block, as it breaks the block. On top of that it stuns you for a few seconds, which is plenty of time for him to throw another or run up to you and throw a mere 3 hit combo that eats 30% of your health. Honestly, this wouldn't be a bad thing, if it weren't for the flinch resistance. As it was mentioned, when you hit him, kintaro, and goro (?) from anywhere but the back, there's like a 10% chance of it making them react to the hit. The attack will always do damage, but remember as mentioned earlier the half strength attacks means that if he resists the impact, which they almost always do, they will immediately hit you with something that takes off a ludicrous amount of your life bar while you've taken off next to nothing.
I think it's a glaring fault in the game they need to fix. The only way to beat the boss characters is to sit there and spam projectiles and keep them away from you in melee, or use a character with teleport, run away from them and wait for them to do certain moves, port behind them, do a single uppercut, then rinse and repeat.
Boss characters can be hard without being insanely frustrating to beat.
I beat Shao Khan with Liu Kang, but he is harder with Raiden it seems. I think spamming teleports behind him will do the trick. I've noticed he is mostly immune to the first attacks, so hit him with a low punch then an uppercut-the low punch will absorb the stun-resistance, then hit him with an uppercut. The teleport for Raiden should enable us to beat him easily. I gave up after seven rounds last night, but I'll finish the bastard this evening. He is a lot harder, but bosses should be. Besides, he cheats in the story anyway-did you expect his fight to be any different? Even though I'm having trouble beating him, this game wins in every single way and the story mode, going through the first three games was amazing (yes, there were a few crappy lines, but on a whole it was great).
Well, just beat story mode, which is how you unlock Quan Chi. Man, Shao Khan was rough, but beatable. Teleport+X-ray is your friend, as well as jump kick/trip and jump punch/uppercut combos from behind. They work well to beat him, but not much luck with anything else. Good luck guys, if you haven't taken him out already. Also, if anyone has X-box live and wants to play online, my xbox SN is the same as my dakka one.
Sounds good Slarg-if we're going with witty quips, I'll let you know that I "fight dirty" and wear $500 dollar sunglasses. Did you beat Khan yet? The strategy I mentioned above helped, but it's not a fight I ever want to do again. He's a lot harder in story mode than he is in arcade mode. Anyone else tossing XBOX names out to play online?
Does Sub-Zero seem really slow, almost to the point of being bad? There seems to be a lot of frames of animation in his specials. Also his ground freeze seems useless as well as all of his EX moves except maybe the super slide and super clone.
Next question have you guys encountered odd stretching of character models? Things like sashes, hanging pieces of cloth, hair, and...um...even breasts stretch all over the screen. If you got any info on that I'd appreciate it.
X-Ray moves look amazing, the characters are the classic awesome bunch, and, there are decent, no, let me rephrase that: awesome fatalities, unlike Armageddon and DC Universe.

Just a couple of questions for you guys:

Sub Zero is really slow, yes. I've heard that once you break his learning curve he becomes an animal, but that he's a "Wait for them to screw up and then punish accordingly" sort of character. I personally prefer Cyber Sub Zero; he has all of his important moves and a few extras. Also, the Ground Freeze..... I think I have seen it used 100 times, and only seen it connect once.
As for the glitch, I haven't had that happen. I have had it freeze up on me four times, twice loading the krypt and twice online, though.
I haven't had any glitches with my copy, and Sub Zero has a couple nice combos, but they have to be perfectly timed and he is a little on the slow side (like a moving glacier ) Cyber Sub Zero is much better, as I prefer the uniqueness of his X-ray. Actually, his and Johnny Cages X-rays are my two favorites because they aren't the basic "stand on the ground and hit two buttons"-Sub's requires you to be in the air and Cage's requires your opponent to hit you while you're in the stance. Having Shao Khan beat me with a hammer only to have it result in his genitalia being smashed for his efforts. Does anyone know how to unlock the third fatality? I bought the ones in the Krypt, and have the starting ones, but there is still the section that says "Locked" in my moves list. How do those become unlocked? Still waiting for X-Box friend requests from here too. Slaarg, I'll add you on later today, and I found out you can do two-player teams against the computer too! One of my friends came over last night to play for the first time so I set him up with that option so I didn't encourage him to hate the game. So I'm up for team kombat, regular stuff...just send friend requests.

Everyone has 2 Fatalities, a Stage Fatality, and a Babality (which don't appear as ??????? in the move list, they just show up after you do them) So if you see any other locked moves it's likely to be a pre-order Fatality, I think only Reptile, Sub-Zero, and Scoprion have those.
Do you need it for an achievement? Send me a request, you can rip my head off for an achievement (game play only, preferably). I help buddies out with that kinda thing. And that video was funny. Nice find
Ok so I played MK today for the first time since Last Thursday. I had cut my thumbs on some exacto blades when I was converting my Dread Knight. They took a bit to heal and so now I am playing MK again. I picked up where I left off and beat Shao Khan. Man he is a cheap ass.

Ouch, Exacto Knives hurt. Glad you healed up
Yeah Shao Khan is a cheap ass. Took me forever to beat him, and I just said Feth It and cheesed it up on the Final Battle of the Game:
Spoiler:
Raidens Teleport, followed by an Uppercut every time he throws something at you.
You know, I just can't take Kung Lao seriously anymore. My brother walked in on me fighting against him, and said "Oh wow, a Flying China-man who is all over the place; that's not stereotypical AT ALL!", and after thinking about it, I just can't see KL in game anymore without bursting into laughter
You shut yo mouth! Kung Lao is and will forever be a cool dude! Though that one particular...scene...he had in story made caused me to rage quite a bit.
In other news I finally found my mains, since I play tag team a lot I wanted 4-ish charcters so I can have 2 or so teams. They're Shang+Mileena and Cyrax+Cyber Sub. Still don't know how I feel about regular Sub (and by that I mean his Bi Han alt, cuz older Sub is the best!) if I use human Cyrax human Sub makes a cool team...then again ROBOTS!
Also what's the biggest combo you guys have pulled off? Just today I did a 9 hit 37% with Shang...so many flaming skulls :p
P.S. Is Cyber Sub pretty much better than Cyrax in every way? He has pretty much all his moves and then some, but maybe not as much anti-air. Doesn't help that Cyrax doesn't seem to be able to deal much damage.
I've pulled off a 10 Hit, 50% combo with Ermac, using his X-Ray.
Next best is 30 percent, 4 hit Combo, No Enhanced, as Ermac.
Personally, I thought I would like Cyber Sub much better, but I honestly like Human Sub more than Cyber Sub. I'm waiting for Kenshi/Sareena to come out to decide upon my Second.
Though Kung Lao is pretty wicked, he has a Roll, a Teleport, AND a Jump Attack, meaning he is getting on top of you no matter what you do....
Next best is 30 percent, 4 hit Combo, No Enhanced, as Ermac.
Is that the one where you use his two grab moves? (down away Square and away forward square on the PS3) My brother showed me that one last night. Pretty wicked.
I have been playing so much Gears of War 3 Beta that I forgot how to do THAT combo.
I did find out that Ermac's Down Back Triangle (Force Ball) move is AMAZING Anti-Air when you're jumping backwards and someone like Cyrax decides to use his Grab.
Have you seen the Krypt Demon yet? Every once in a while he will jump out at you when you try to exit the krypt. I am wondering if there is something secret about it?
That guy has only popped up twice for me, I doubt there's anything else special about him. While we're on the topic of secrets I somehow got the hidden Noob fight. I was in the Temple stage, and instead of getting to finish my opponent Noob suddenly shows up and goes bananas. Lastly, has anyone figured out Toasty's secret yet?

We haven't found anything about him, though we have found 4 secret Krypts that each give 5,000 Koins. I'll find the videos and link them.

Toasty is supposed to give you Full Meter, but we haven't been able to figure out how yet.
As for Secret Noob, in order to fight him you have to play arcade, go to the Temple Stage (random), have Noob in the background (again, Random), and NEVER block during the match. Doing these four things (only two of which you have control of) will unlock Secret Noob to fight, with 10,000 Koins for you if you win. We think beating him this way and Mastering him (Check Stats in Nekropolis) will unlock his Retro Outfit.
All Secret Fights have to be in Arcade:
Secret Smoke: Living Forest, you will occassionally see Smoke pop out from behind a tree. When he does, press Down and the Select/Back button immediately, and your opponent will instantly be killed and the Secret Smoke fight will come up. And just like in MK2; he has Scorpions moveset.
Secret Reptile: Same as MK1; when you see Santa or a Witch on the Pit stage (night), get a Double Flawless and and perform the Stage Fatality. You will then be transported to the bottom of the Pit, and.... Secret Reptile has Scorpions AND Sub Zero's moveset.
Secret Jade: We don't actually know how to find her; we know you have to get a double flawless on Shang Tsung, but other than that, we can't figure out what we did to fight her....
I don't think I've seen anyone in the Living Forest, or anyone fly by the moon. I certainly wasn't paying attention in the Temple because I don't remember seeing Noob in the background. As for not blocking...well I was facing Sheeva...things weren't exactly difficult enough to warrant a block :p

Yeah I got those. Pretty neat stuff. I do hope there is something more to the Krypt Demon. I mean they have already said there are tons of secrets that people do not know just yet.
Is secret Noob MUCH harder than regular Noob? Because I find the regular one to be a real pushover. Also, is anyone else having difficulty finding matches online? I tried to get some online games in yesterday and it never stopped looking for a match. I got one match in, beat the crap out of my opponent so badly first round that he quit the fight and I couldn't get any other matches at all. Online is truly a bummer for this game from what I've seen... :\

Secret Noob makes most players look like pushovers.
Also, I find King of the Hill to be MUCH better than Ranked or Player Matches. Join a Room and then find yourself a King of the Hill Session.
Is secret Noob harder than story mode Shao Khan? That guy is the biggest cheater, SOB, douche in the history of fighting games (but still beatable). I think I tried king of the hill to no success. I'll try again soon. Maybe my connection was malfunctioning at the time

A little less than Shao Khan, I would say. If you do anything other than Block, you get instantly punished by SN, and he is black.
Wow, Secret Noob was EASY. You only get 1000 koins per win, no 10000 koins, no secret for the krypt. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news there. Just block when he does his teleport slam then uppercut. Works like a charm. I'd feel guilty doing that to an opponent over and over again...don't mind so much against a machine. I just fought him and won the first time I did. And yes, my soul does feel a bit tarnished after the ass-kicking I just gave him

Sad. Do you have Noob mastered though? You might unlock his classic by having him Mastered (something like 150 X-rays performed, 24 hours playtime, 10000 pints of blood spilled, and 150 Fatalities, or something like that) and by beating Secret Noob. We don't know though.
Wow, that's a lot of stuff. No, I'm not really a Noob fan in game play...so I haven't spent much (any) time using him. When I went to PAX East EVERYONE and their mother was playing as Noob-kind of killed it for me so I just played my favorite sunglass wearing arrogant jerk or a hat throwing show-stealer. Do any of the FAQs mention how to get his klassic costume or get the koins? I probably won't master him either-got the achievement, that's probably enough for me. Are we even sure there IS a klassic costume for him that you get from beating him in some way? Do the other secret fights give secret goodies?

We know there is a klassic costume, but NOT how to unlock it. Thats why I was wondering if you had him Mastered or not.
So..... I have news on the first DLC character; SKARLET!
This is what she looks like (She cameoed in the Story mode once or twice)
And I have seen her fatality, and I was.... quite disturbed, to be honest. It was taken down, so all I can give is a description;
Skarlett pulls out one of her blades, and impales the enemy in the head/cheek area. She then pulls out the other blade, slits their throat so that their head falls back and blood comes gushing out.... and then proceeds to put her face into the blood, drinking it and making sure her entire face gets covered. Seriously, once it's done the only part of her face NOT bloody are her eyes....
Jeez that was pretty From a Khornish perspective. Gonna go try to beat super Jade right now-I assume doing it on "very easy" mode will SERIOUSLY increase the chances of kicking Shang's ass. I'll let you guys know how it goes/if it does anything when I finish. Should hopefully take me 15-20 minutes, depending on screw-ups
Ok, due to some stuff I had to take care of at home, 20 minutes of gameplay has taken over an hour. Also, I've only gotten one FV against him-not two yet. Still working on it. Turned off til after dinner. Updates will follow when able
Got some heads up on the secret kharacters for you guys: it looks like the money you earn goes up for each super fight you get: first (noob for me) was worth 1000 koins per win, second character (I beat smoke next this afternoon) was worth 2000 per fight, third (beat reptile) was worth 5000. I have not received any alternate costumes for them. Thought you guys would want to know. Still have to beat Jade, but I'm not sure how in the seven levels of hell I'm gonna get a double FV on Shang on normal mode...did it on beginner but it wasn't a high enough difficulty to get it.

I heart Sektor. He's a ninja-kyborg. Awesome. And his buddy Kyrax is the first JamaiKan-Ninja-Kyborg. Quite an Akhievement.
I'm pretty sure Cyrax is supposed to be from Botswana. Also subsititing the "K" for "C" only really works on on hard "C" sounds...

What are you talcing about? Don't tell me what I kan and kan't do!!
Shao Khan is a cheating bastard, Hat's off is hella difficult, Absolute Chaos is hilarious, and it's a pretty good way to get decent with two relatively unused characters.
And did anyone else notice that when you have two characters, the one that isn't out slowly regens health? I'm not sure if that's just in the Shaolin Climax challenge or not, but it made it a lot easier.

All the Shaolin Challenge Tower missions have the health regen added in, it's not normally a feature of tag kombat.
PS3 = Kratos but PSN = down :(
Xbox 360 = ?? But you can play online
Is the joystick version worth the $90 premium? It looks like its MK specific. I liked the fightsticks for SF4 and Blazblue but those I even use with Mame on PC.
I'd say if you can get a good 8-way joystick controller, do so. I feel that current gen controllers (both joystick and d-pad) are too 'all around' for MC. It's alright with series' like Soul Caliber, where rotations are part of the moves lists, but when you need precise up-down-back-forward taps, having bouncy joysticks or sticky, inaccurate d-pads can be the difference between winning and losing.
"Improved netcode - NetherRealm Studios has heard the cries of pain and frustration over the caustic netcode that makes Mortal Kombat hardly playable online. Tom Brady said that a fix is coming and will help making online play more bearable. While online play in fighting games is not the absolute best way to play due to even the smallest amount of lag disrupting various combos from being executed, it does improve the life of a game with its wealth of competitors available to play against.
Fixing the bugs - Those that have played Mortal Kombat quite a bit may have seen a variety of glitches. Some of the glitches include the parry glitch done by Liu Kang and Johnny Cage that allows their parry moves to be used again and again while they crouch and block, and Sonya’s block infinite that can locked down an opponent after she does certain moves. While the patch on 5/20 did do some changes to help prevent these glitches from being used, this upcoming patch will actually fix the problems.
DLC - Tom Brady did confirm that Skarlet will be available in the next patch along with other DLC extras like costumes. When asked about future DLC characters aside from the confirmed Kenish and Skarlet, he was reluctant to speak further about possible characters released in the future."
Also, all Retro Costumes are going to be available for 400 M$ points soon.
Lord Scythican wrote:Is anyone still playing this game? Any new secrets?
My interest in it sort of died when I played it by myself for 3 weeks.
Well there was a video of one of the new DLC characters. But I think most secrets have been found.
I'd imgaine playing a fighting game by yourself would get old. Get a couple of friends over or head online.
By the time the PSN was fixed, I pretty much got bummed out about the game. Well I have some time off from work this summer, so hopefully I will get my interest back soon.
Skarlet is looking brutal, and I still play the game, mostly because I am still trying to figure out my main. Kicking between Baraka and Kabal. But for the most part, Fails of the Weak, RvB, and Acheivement Horse made me move back to Reach.
Also, there is the Xbox Season Pass coming up; pay 1200 M$P, and you get all the characters for "free", or you can pay 400M$P per character. So basically, buy them all early and you get one character free.
Sektor and Cyrax Retro Skins come free with Skarlet or the Compatability Pack that allows you to play against her for free.
