What a crisp paintjob! Amazing!
The only criticism I have is that the transfer on the tank still has a glossy shine around the edges, but that's me really nitpicking. Good job!
@phloop yeah the buggers silvered up on me and I'm still working on fixing that, serves me right for being lazy lol
@ravening I would recommend reading "orphans of the kraken" as that is the most current fluff. But essentially fought a fighting withdrawal against hivefleet kraken including they're home world being overrun and a "last stand" at the giants coffin on mirals world. The remnants withdrew to recover, now using scout squads to reclaim lost equipment and fallen gene seed ( even from other chapters). The remaining battle brothers are heavily deployed with the deathwatch in return for a release of gene seed from the inquisition to rebuild they're chapter.
I like the little conversion you did on the speeder, with the assault cannon now on the HB mount. Quick and looks really cool.
Your paintjob is really crisp and I'm jealous of the clean lines on that Rhino. Good luck with finishing off this army, I look forward to seeing whatever's next! A Dreadnought maybe, it'd fit the fluff from what I understand and would look really cool.
@da butcha I'm planning on doing all the chapter and squad markings at once so they look consistent. I'm also considering having some moulded shoulder pads made up for me.
1.flat base coat of iyanden darksun
2.shade with wash of thinned graveyard earth
3.shade deep recesses with wash of scorched brown.
4.first highlight of 50:50 iyanden:Vallejo game colour golden yellow
5.second highlight with vgc golden yellow
6.third highlight 50:50 vgc golden yellow:vmc ivory
7.glaze with 50:50 mix of yellow ink:red ink
Or there abouts anyway the proportions and number of coats tend to change from model to model.
Hope that helps
Automatically Appended Next Post: @crimson welcome aboard! The sniper sergeant is my 'counts as' telion. Just trying to portray a bit of how the in "orphans of the kraken" they describe the reclamation squads as being marine lead scout units.

It really is a really way painted few models! I have the same criticism though, maybe try and fix the glossy edges of the transfers. Aside from that, really decent and well painted models!

They're all getting done at the end for consistency.
Well something else finished for people to look at. Just a lil tidy up to do where my man hand obliterated a transfer (still not having much luck with them). So without further a do, without the aid of a safety net, razorback number 1.
Great paintjob all around! Your Librarians armour looks like how I'm painting my Dark Eldar (just far lighter, or rather, blue-er ).
I've a question though, my friends and I are going to base our armies the same and are exploring the different possibilities of basing magic and I fancy how you did your bases, soooo the question is: how'd you do em?
@anticitizen they're pretty simple tbh but i'm going to be making some more over the next week or so,so I'll try and take some photos as I work for a mini tutorial if it helps.

I've managed to duplicate it, but a tutorial on how to paint them mightn't hurt for others
I love the base of the Rhino, it looks awesome. The contrast of the yellow against the black and how the skin tone compliments it really appeals to the eye as well.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh and also I love the Librarian's out-pointing hand, sort of slouched but also directive, it really gives a form of movement to the model. Great work!
@bloodangel17 the power armoured dude with sniper rifle is my telion stand in, just trying to represent how in the fluff the scout reclaimer squads are lead by full battle brothers.
Its soooo good to see a less known Space Marine chapter. And they look awesome too!
That Razorback is sweet. I'm actually jealous How do they play with all those scouts thou? Just a question cos I was thinking about taking some, but never been sure about how good they really are?
These are looking great! I'm putting together my Scythes veterans strikeforce at the mo. Your paintjob is sweet. I couldn't be bothered to do the crossed scythe chapter badge so ended up with a single scythe on the left pauldron and did the crossed scythe motif on my characters. It's a lot of finicky painting otherwise!
@sarpedon tbh the sniper scouts are usuaLly pants and end up soaking up shooting, the scouts in the storm and the scout bikers definately work well. They work best when you have first turn and can use there scout move to alpha strike fire support units/vehicles off the table, outflanking also helps disrupt your opponent. If I wasn't trying to avoid duplicating units (to avoid boredom) I would swap out the sniper scouts and bikers for another shotgun scout/speeder combo.
I love the Soild crispness of the Yellow ,but one thing i do really like is that the line with the black is really solid.
Often they are smudged but yours is really clean.
Really Nice! Awesome job on the Librarian, I like the subtle conversion you’ve done there. @millest- It's from Sevrin Loth's Honour guard made by Forge World. Way off Alpharius!
40k Ninja wrote:That yellow was perfect. How did you get the paint to go on so smooth and all the same tone/shade?
Just by using several thin layers making sure each layer is ok before moving onto the next one, then using a thin ink glaze at the end to tie all the shades together.
@everybody cheers for the kind words hopefully should be some scout bikers here by the end of next weekish
Behold this thread arises from the grave! MwuHaHaHaHa!!! So i've been dumb enough to sign up to a tournament that requires me to have a painted army on the 4th of Feb so I pulled my finger out and got this far.
There are more photos on my blog (links in my sig). The razorback will get finishing touches, transfers and based when I finish the predator i'm about to start work on, so hopefully there will be many updates forthcoming.
@majortom yep there will indeed be chapter symbols, you can see the tests on the tactical marines earlier on in the thread, I also need to decided on how insignia will work for different troop types ie scouts, veterans etc. Once a full decision is made i'll do my standard warm up on plasti-card before diving deep into getting them all bashed out at once. The end is definately nigh however as I only have two landspeeders and six infantry to bash out before i hit that stage.
Mainly due to me having this at the ready to insignia and tuft up stage
This merely a hoptical illusion the black is simply a mix of chaos black and GW old black ink. Edge highlights are just adept us battle grey -> codex grey -> fortress grey. Simples!
stunning. Although a purity seal or two to break up the large expanse of yellow on the otherside or lower part of the body would be good! As a marine you can never have too many purity seals!!
Solid, clean paint job. This color scheme runs the risk of looking like a bunch of Bumble bees, but you pull it off very well. I also must say your chest eagles are spectacular. Very well done!
The black is just black that's been edge highlighted with adeptus, codex, fortress no browns involved at all, guess its just picking bounce back from somewhere?
Well the second douche canoe is completed so now it's only infantry left to work on plus picked up some ammo feeds from singe industries at salute so I can properly finish of my Kantor stand in.
Love the yellow and the bases you have put on your rhinos, i really need to pick up that and put my rhinos on base's. Just makes the model look so much more amazing.
Commissar41.0 wrote:Nice I think you could run this off as a splinter chapter of the Imerial fists.....or not what ever you feel like nice army bro
Or he could run them as Sycthes of the Emperor...which is what they are. They look good, I don't really like the storm models but you've painted them well.
Were the Tempests difficult to assemble? Were there many issues with the casting? I have been considering the purchase of that model for awhile, just wondering if I should bother.
im loving the models, but to be honest i think the black and yellow on the vehicles is too clean! no dmg, no weathering and no shading on the yellow to really speak of...
highlighting on the black is really nice though!
I love the fresh look, if the Strike force had spent months in space then landed, of course their armour and vehicles would be prestine. Equally, they would damaged after 1st contact, but I actually like both schools of thought no reason for every Marine to look the same is there?
Well got another squad finished off, this time even more sternguard! The only thing that can kill threadomancy, a picture!
There is more stuff thats WIP but this bit of the forum is not for WIP so will stay on my blog for the time being. The original army build is nearing completion now so hopefully in a couple of weeks i'll get some proper photos sorted and some army shots before moving on with the "additions"
It's actually a good question because GW and various writers have changed various elements over the years. Sometimes scouts are lead by a Scout Sergeant who is a scout (kind of a senior-most scout position) and other times it is a Regular Marine Sergeant with many years experience, who has put away his Power Armour and leads the squads teaching them as a mentor like Sgt Telion.
They get a special vehicle Land Speeder Storm, they can only use, but for some reason it's not a transport for them?
There are then all the usual exceptions to the normal rules, Space Wolves are weird as they are Elites and aren't new marines but senior already qualified as Full marines when they were Blood Claws, they get some nice options like Special Weapons. Also The Black Templars have a system rather like a Knight and Squire, where a Neophyte (scout) works in a Tactical squad with an Initiate (full Marine) confused yet? So you end up with a huge unit of troops with Tactical Marines and Scouts in one Integrated blob of power.
So Squads tend to look like this.
There are also books where Scythes of the Emperor Scouts get fired by a Boarding Torpedo into the sphincter of a Tyranid Bioship (this is no facetious statement this is exactly what happened as is actually the Authors words, I-gak-yee-not.
Spoiler:
CYNICAL FUTURE PREDICTION: - In the future, GW will give the Blood Angels something called "BLOOD SCOUTS" which will be called Balanced and each one will have the statline of Mephiston. If anyone accuses them of being Over-powered GW will cite " They are really weak compared to Grey Knight Scouts which we are releasing next month and they have Draigo's statline so it's all balanced yeah?
Anyway back on Track, Scythes are the Coolest Chapter because they literally threw themselves under the "Tyranid Bus" to slow them down and pretty much and willingly condemned themselves to death by literally fighting to the last man with the sole aim of reducing the Tyranid Fleet as much as possible. So Grim Dark!!!
FOR ANYONE WHO DOESNT GET IT AFET THE SCYTHES WERE NEARLY WIPED OUT THEY MADE UP 'SALVATION TEAMS' CONSISTING OF A MARINE LEADER AND SCOUT TROOPS, THEIR JOB WAS TO TRY AND FIND REMNANTS OF THE 5TH COMPANY WHO WERE OPERATIONAL ONBOARD 'NID HIVE SHIPS
sorry if it comes across aggressive i pressed caps and cant touch type
As part of my expansion project for my Scythes I decided to add a chaplain partly because I fancy occasionally switching the Blood Angel Codex to run a Storm Raven full of Vanguard Vets led by a Chaplain and Apothecary (Sanguinary Priest). To this end I kept to a fairly standard model and just did a little fiddle around with the back pack.
Not my greatest effort but wanted to get some brush practice after a bit of a lay before I tackle the Angron miniature I picked up at Gamesday. The Stormraven itself is in construction at the moment and I will be starting on the Vanguard Vets as soon as I finalise the load out.
I've been watching this thread for a while now and you have some pretty cool stuff in here. I like the backpack on the chaplain alot. Simple but its effective, I might have to steal the idea.
