Okay, I mentioned that I was working on a Necron project for that new codex, and Vik and Shrike asked me to post pics, well here we are.
First, my take on the Deceiver; The shadows lend an air of menace to him.
[/img]
[/img]
What can be said about this guy? the Codex pretty much has his whole story set out.
Now for my Warriors, I did use different heads to show possibly different approaches for this squad to have been repaired or just experiments
ed on. You can also see a Lord posing nearby! He likes to stay near and keep them moving.
[/img]
And now for some different Lords, Yes, i know they are minis from another range with a head swap for the most part, but they fit the theme of Necro-horror, and it is a big part of the Humor as they are under the Deceiver. My Killing Joke!
[/img]
if the crxs is the secon one on the last pic to the let, then these warmachines i have to say were ment to be fielded as stand in models for necrons from the beginning...
though i am not very into necrons at all i have to say they do look special...green with brass joints? something you dont see every day for sure.
the deceiver looks very good, specially in the half shadows... but the face with blue warpaint isn´t to my taste... a face sans makeup would be way better...only my fiver here...
and the sacarb headswap looks rather nice... a trule good idea and would have been even nice would you have used it on the entire squad of warriors...
That Deceiver makes me think of Thor's tin Loki, the Norse (?) god of mischief. very topical given what movie is being released soon.
I'm the first to admit that I know nothing about Necrons but really do like these. I can almost see some sort of imperial force investigating a factory and these guys pop out of the vats of gunk and the nooks and crannies.
Mad4minis: I used the original Asphyxious, the smaller one,
Epic level Asphyxious, both got Necron swap outs on their heads. The one with the big chopper looking warscythe is Venethjrax, not much to do for his face, but he got the treat-ment the others did.
Vik: Cryx are the grave robbing Necrons of that game system.
I wanted a different look as most make their Necrons chrome or steel looking. I wanted that more "antique" feel, like classic cars or other machines. Oh, his "warpaint" is inspired from watching the Movie Spawn, The "clown"
Ah, yes, that is because two of the heads are on the Asphyx models, and others are trophies for my Space Marines painted in the colors of the armies I beat!
Taffiarti: Deceiver is very much like Loki. Oh, funny that you mention that as the comic book Joker is their color inspiration!
Basically, I wanted a metallic feel for the color, and mixed shining gold 2/1 with Dark Angel Green. The "fabric" is Liche purple with warlock purple drybrushed on.
I like the lords a lot. I like the warrior head swap too, but it looks very weird with only some of them having those heads. I think you could have carried the theme through and had a very alien looking Necron force.
for all that are complaining abiut a green and purple scheme:
thses chars have a history of about together of sixty years with little development to their overall look...so this is classic in numbers!
you gotta love the glowing runes on your...whatever^^...heck i love them^^
also nice gold and presumably greenish metal? the warmachine range is a very inrtriguing line...
See? yes exactly, and that is that lords' wars-cythe, a potent close combatant weapon in the hands of a lord. No knowing what the new 'dex will allow.
I made that to have that metallic gold-green just for that look, there are insects with the color even, imagine a carpet of scarabs like that as well tying up those before my army of killer robots with death-rays!^^
I have always been of the belief that if you seek something unique, look at other models for the look you are after!
And this angle allows the feel of madness from all those millenia left to their dark dreams as Lords are the most intact in memories, and the ability to think as they willing sold their souls into servitude to the C' Tan! Whether they have regrets is unknown. My union of diabolic, plotting and patient evil!
[/img]
Vik: they are the Veil of Darkness, it can allow the Lord with it to teleport himself and a squad anywhere they want to go across the table in the move phase, of course Deep strike rules apply so it can be risky.
ohoh.... do i see some loomin`orks there?...
could you do a closeup of the far right necro warrior without the green rod...will have to see that better looks like it could be used for conversions quite good...
thats is really cool looking... very classy and original, the "skin"tone of the warriors looks fresh! haven´t seen them done that way before...
what color will you aply to the weapons? and will you use the standard rods for the weapons or have you got something up your sleeve for a breaking up of the scheme?
maybe you could use these cocktailsticks that comes in clear plastic in various colors...
and is that the special tank package of yours or a drawing? beneath them warriors?
wooot , those necron lords are great , nice idea with the head swaps , deciever is cool too, great face and nice photo! , so you opted for the gold as a final scheme , well nice work , all round mate.
Yep, that is the Akuyaku box under the warriors Vik.^^
That is my Gold+Green mix for that shade of color for the warriors to match the rest of the army. some slight variations may occur, helps the idea of age and repairs being made and all.
For now, all I have are the standard green rods, but if i could afford it, there is a place nearby that has differe4nt colored rods, to match the theme, maybe purple rods?
Thanks Neil, I want a different yet recognizable army when I make one..
well depends on what you buy... but i think even with all the colors you probably wont be needing it is still cheap as heck over your hobby rods from the shop...sometime in a distant future i want to give these a go to be used as visualzied shots of my lasguns (i know technically you cant see lasrounds but well the rule of cool is not made up for nothing, eh?^^)
The colors look fantastic together! Excellent choice. Definately the best looking, most original necrons I have seen. Nice work on the illuminated runes as well.
Element206: Thanks! It is hard to go original these days as so many are caught up in the imagery that the 'Eavy Metal team have made for the minis at GW.
Im really digging that really tall Lord with the flowing robes and.... skulls? coming from the bottom. What was that mini from? You might have given me a gift idea for my nephew.
KingCracker wrote:Im really digging that really tall Lord with the flowing robes and.... skulls? coming from the bottom. What was that mini from? You might have given me a gift idea for my nephew.
Asphalt wrote:I just started some Cryx-crons as well. They I think asphyxius (sp) works best.
Epic Asphyxious has that regal feel to him. Venathrax was simply a paint scheme for the army and he was done, It was hard to figure a good head or face swap, and his mouth open screaming helps allow the feel that Lords have the ability to interact with others when disguised as living beings. But even shrunk down, he would be SM bulky.
I have the older version of the model, no flowing snakes, necron lord like spear (that will have a glow rod of course) and palm down left hand. It fits perfectly with the concept that the lords were the elite of the elite.
Asphalt wrote:Yeah I saw him hiding in there. I will be taking the smoke stacks off before I finish mine. Hopefully they come off and clean up easily.
Oh, I kept them so that I can have the ends glowing, like some sort of extra sensors, or the Lightning fields, or any other tech they may get in the new codex!
For some reason i think they would look even cooler if the bases were painted in exactly the same way as the Necrons, weird idea huh? Having a closer look the necrons almost look toxic, as if the metal they are made from is corroding and seeping toxic sludge. (thats meant to be a compliment lol)
don´t know what you did to the cloth of the veiling orb lord but it looks tremendously cool...almost as if gazing in a nebula in the wide ocean of the universe...how did you do that? don´t get me wrong but this is but the best think you´ve painted so far...not that i complain about your other models...
and the warmachine minis shine so very bright for necron standins...! very good job!
I believe that was a side effect of dry brushing, as spatteer became star like effect. I will keep it, the other thing I was going to do was add Necron glyphs to the edge of the skirt.
Woe to thee beings of the galaxy as those masters of all have awakened. See how they have unlocked the gates and opened the arsenals allowing all of the weapons of the Dynasty's to fight anew!
i saw that small magnet looking out from the constrction... does that mean you are using the ark as both versions and just switch it around in parts to get both builts to be used in games ? clever idea!
i also see plento of conversion possibilities for that baby!
Viktor von Domm wrote:ohoh... look at the size of that thing...^^

Very nice art work including their swoon to be 2nd wave of models Walker/Dreadnought/Warlaker machine. Much more interesting fluff, elevating them to the heights of dimensionality like my Hatred story does for folks!

i guess orlov is one of these bar brawlers that think more enemies agianst one means easier hit quota^^ the more robots charge his chances heighten to hit a thing^^
Just the box art is retouched, same kit as the last one, at 35dollarsI can wait as they are whole squads and a new army box is soon to be released so likely I would be able to get myself that as a Holiday treat!
Thanks Kenshin620, glad folks like mt toxic looking 'Crons.
The good father slew many Eldar warriors of a Farseer, and a Wraithlord! These will be puny by comparison, and the Inq has a force sword, and the acolytres are armed with power blades, the Ad-Mech has a servo arm to crush one!
Now time to unveil the Lords of the Dynastic world of my Necrons.
7 models are Known, More have yet to awake.
[/img]
Front row: Trazyn/or The Cobra Lord, Imotekh/or The Fire king, The Speeded one, Regular one
Back row: The Savage Taker, The Void King, The Gaunt One
[/img]
have you made plans as to how to base the lot of them? some brown sand or something totally different?
by the way it is cool to see how much in line these warachine minis look with the new series of necron HQ models...this will be quite a big force now...
Hmmm, not sure, but the new Immortals and Lychguard are far taller than the warrior Necrons. The Lords are taller than most of these new models as well.
I wonder if that lich lord asphyxious with a necron head would be legal in a tourny if you choose a terminator size base and called him an overlord... that is such a deadly looking combo
Cryage wrote:I wonder if that lich lord asphyxious with a necron head would be legal in a tourny if you choose a terminator size base and called him an overlord... that is such a deadly looking combo
Oh, I have tourney legal stuff, but yeah, a 40mm base would be more impressive. I changed the head of the weapon for a plastic warscythe one, now he looks more fitting to the army! I may change the weapon on the epic version with Necron head, Give him a scythe as well as they are now brutal even though they no lopnger have the cheesy denial of all saves of any kind, S7 Power-weapon is still a killer!
forgott how you did the green metalic look...
which is in fact very cool looking and i think one of my favorite ways of painting necrons...
the purple on the immortals and the lycheguards is looking like a cool addition... but if possible i would add here some highlights later on... then this would be truly perfect!
by the way... nice lightning effect on their blades!!!

Thanks vik, I mixed some burnished gold with Dark Angels green, Some lighter purple will be added for the effects as well.
just used dry brushing techniques on my guys!
Now for the Lords!(with the shard of the Deceiver)
[/img]
Lord of the Command Barge. A well done plastics model.
[/img]
[/img]
[/img]
Finecast running lord, (Had to pin his staff as it was too delicate, and added some plastic staff handle as well to help it)
[/img]
Finecast Imotekh(another delicate mini)
[/img]
Cryptek, wonder what he has in his hand??
[/img]
The Shard of the Deceiver
[/img]
[/img]
I am debating on what to do with his weapon, either leave as it, or snip the part off and replace with a warscythe blade instead?
[/img]
Yo-yo Orb lord!
[/img]
[/img]
Re-modified Lord with warscythe
[/img]
[/img]
[/img]
Trazyn, almost finished!
[/img]
[/img]
[/img]
[/img]
The Big slayer lord with a void blade!, I also had him get that Tachyon Arrow!
[/img]
as for some of your questions/musings...well...
i would keep all the non GW weapons on the cryx (?) models...i think this sets your force apart from the standard necrons now roaming the tables...i really wouldn´t substitute scythes or blades...wysiwyg will still be working...even a five year old would understand what this counts as...
by the way... on some orbs you did a very cool effect... what do these orbs resemble? never read necron fluff...
the deciever is a mixture of cool effects and some that i think need a redo... the cloth he is floating in and around is looking wonderful! i like the darker blueish folds and the purple here really has a centre stage moment! what i am not sold on is the blue facemask...your scheme for me doesn´t support this color...if i was you i would do it too in purple...
about the orbs again... have you considered giving the orbs a bit of texture with mabye some uneven coats of PVA or some greystuff sculpted attempts at creating flames? i think with your methode of making lighting effects this really could create a sparkle^^

cheers, vik
The original orbs were GS painted before they finished curing, so the paint cracked as they dried.
I am going to mix scorpion green with skull white to get some really wild lightning in the orbs and the other spheres amongst the group.
I am thinking instead of the Klown from Spawn, maybe the Joker? or just the pattern in purple.
white to could work for the face...hmmm...but i would be very careful...or...what about a deep black mask? like an abyss? could that work?only with piercing eyes...,maybe some OSl for the eyes even...
Viktor von Domm wrote:white to could work for the face...hmmm...but i would be very careful...or...what about a deep black mask? like an abyss? could that work?only with piercing eyes...,maybe some OSl for the eyes even...
More work has been done, i mixed white with the scorpion green, so it became a light shade for the energy weapons and eyes!

Now you see the direction I ma going with the Necrons here.
wow... now this is an amount of work you have done!!! what color is the darker metal you use all over the necrons? looks like bronze but way darker as i can recall? looks cool by the way...only thing i would think about is to break up the greenmetal so that the minis inside the vehicles are looking not screwed on...you know... as of now they almost seems to be part of the model as oposed to be sitting inside...something paintwise to make happen that the parts are looking seperate more...
otherwsie i think you did a very good work on the vehicles...how did you get the coates of paint so heavenly even and thin? looks very professional... for a sec i thought you had used an airbrush...your tanks if i am honest dont hove that smooth finish...you must have changed something...hmmm...
Automatically Appended Next Post: at archont...
such harsh critics should better explain why they don´t like the work as only stae that they don´t like it... constructive criticism is done differently...
The works are still in the unfinished stage. Those that know me, also know my work goes in stages, for me this is merely initial stage of the work, more touch ups will follow as I go along, the darker color is called "Tin Bitz" by GW, and also is the color for their seats in the vehicles, the Necrons and the main plates of the vehicles will stay the gold/green color. For now, you see the basic colors for the vehicles. Not bad for someone with arthritis thus far.
My IG tanks get the rougher look because of the flat colors and applied as if soldiers were indeed re-painting the machines, hence that rougher look. The metalics, applied in layers get's a more even feel to it.
Rest assured, each will get more goings over to fix the bad spots, and other messes on the parts and vehicles, I even redid the Lords, faces around the eyes with the green/gold to avoid the over brushes of the eye colors.
Viktor von Domm wrote:ah that famous tin bitz... i need to really go out and get me some new paints...
i was just amazed by the smoothness of the armor plates of the necron vehicles...
Yeah, I am happy that the vehicles look that smooth, I hope they remain that way when I go over the fixes agin so that the light green "glow" is coming from within those panels.
Tin bitz are the base color for the weapons and parts of the vehicles, I also am applying gold to certain areas as well as you may have seen, the gold will need some more applications as shows in the pics, but as I said, I am simply at what i call stage 2 of my painting for them. But in reality, a fairly simple scheme, nothing to elaborate, just table top play level of goodness for the Necrons. Still good enough for hunting the accursed Eldar
first...tabletop is always the thing i try to achieve... nothing fancy above that so second... it is understood that this is a mere second stage of this theatre of painting^^
yup noticed the gold...it is what makes these xenos look cool... that green and gold together with the purple and tin bitz is a cool scheme!
the seat clamps look very good and help to seperate the drivers from the platform quite good....
the new toy loks very cool...where did that came from?
one thing tho... i think with your charcter models you should break up the pace more... as of now i have realized that there is too much greenness on them...ozymandias in particular...
Yeah, I had to make parts of the vehicles look more like the bare essentials. the new weapon(Tachyon Arrow) is made from parts I was not using from the Triarch Praetorians, spinal parts and their pistols!
Yeah, still looking to make some purple on Oz, he ius too roach like in his build, instead of a cloak, he has more metal parts like a shell on his back, I will likely find more ways to gold and purple him, but he is a tough lil bugger for such. I am thinking that his loin tabbard may get the purple to it, and have the glow like the shields of the lychguard.
i think the tabrd is a most likley place to be purpled up a treat...
also what i had forgotten earlier... those shield wielding crons... i think the inside of those shields need too a breaking up...
or you could add a bit of devaln mud...or a greener wash over the shields... i dunno if purple there would be the best idea... i had a look at the GW shop model and they had a darker shield...i think this item should look like a bumper...a working bumper and not like cars newadays show some chrome bumper...you know...atm they look really crips and shiney...and in thruth a shieled should look a bit used...
Viktor von Domm wrote:any pics of that eandeavor would be nice...
Having not liked how this batch of Green/Gold worked with the Thrakka wash, I did not snap pics, sorry., but you see the way the paint looks now once I went back over them with it.
ok.... also i guess not long and i will have to try to get me a sole cron... i want to try this kind of mini for once...somehow your stuff has sparked a certain interrest ....will be looking for bitz i guess on a shop...
Viktor von Domm wrote:ok.... also i guess not long and i will have to try to get me a sole cron... i want to try this kind of mini for once...somehow your stuff has sparked a certain interrest ....will be looking for bitz i guess on a shop...
Muwahahahaha! the spread of the machines is now arising!
IronSnake wrote:Looks great, and I love the scheme. It's unique.
Thanks! I wanted something different, a friend already made his 'crons red, and I have seen other unique schemes, but not as many as the plain silvery chrome jobs running around.
poda_t wrote:Not at all surprised you put gold into that metallic green. Its a color that responds well to mixing with nearly everything.
Ah, Dark Angels Green and the Burnished gold/Reaper bright gold. I love my "Toxi-crons!"
and i am chasing after some warriors atm to give a certain idea froming some room to expand...after alll robits...who is not thinking steampuny possibilities here?
yup... well i would use them not as corns but as robots... ribcage look would be something i have to get rid off but the limits are sheer non existend...endless fun...
if you are interrested for a fun reading time ...look for George Mann..."the affinity bridge" ... it had a nice story about wetware automatons...enjoyed it quite much!
also seeing your necrons...there is not much effort to envision totally brassed up ´crons...
He even had a monolith with an alien on a lounge chair using a sun reflector to tan itself on the upper deck!,,,and the front had California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger poster on it. ^^
which is also fitting ...i think the arny needs a good kicking too...if you allow this kind of outlandish idea...i had a constant facepalm seeing him in politics...
Viktor von Domm wrote:which is also fitting ...i think the arny needs a good kicking too...if you allow this kind of outlandish idea...i had a constant facepalm seeing him in politics...
Well, the California-crons have not been seen in ages, so it makes it better for the rest of the Crons to get about their business!
the shileds are looking awesome now... and the deceiver´s crystal is looking way better now...
the bugs... will they be crawling over something? maybe a dead SM?^^
I like your paint scheme. It's different. I wish pictures did models as much justice. Mine look boltgun in pictures but they are a blue metalic instead of just metal. I wonder how your power weapons looks IRL.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I can see the one problem you have is sufficient lighting. I have a goose-neck lamp over the models when I use the flash camera. It all adds to the pictures, I saw the blue, but it did not come out more due to minimal lighting.

Oh thank you! I do enjoy getting folks posting if it even just the one post. They had the parts in the box to do that with the Lych-Guards. The alternate lords conversions just screamed at me to do them.
Viktor von Domm wrote:seeing all these guys and vehicles on your desk...they scream at me for ou to make a battlereport about them... i would love to see them in terrain!
Since it is essentially a new army, I can prepare for being spanked by the opponent, and sent back to my tomb chambers! LOL! but yeah, I think I shall need some time and have a fight with another army to see how they do.
well i think that glow affect is a very cool one... if possible i would like to see a daytime pic...usually the flash kills a lot of your work...but with this i think the effect benefits greatly on the flash... so a daytime pic will show the true side...^^

Well, now we also have to work for the troops as well, I drilled out the guns, and marked the two squads.

Oh they give you the already broken necrons, I just have to paint them with sparking wires(lightning or ice blue wire tips) some black smudged at the broken off limb edges, etc.
ah... now i see the rumors of your recent demise have been absolutley exaggerated...^^ seems you have awaken as the necrons do^^
those immortals really have a powercord that is coming from their spine? looks a bit gross that way... but the deathmarks will be a nice addition to your folds... and then the monolith... at last back to bigger guns^^

Think of the cables as part of Necron power-tech, they are directly tapped to the mini-reactors in the 'cron themselves.
Ah yes, dudews that DS next to one of your sqauds and then hits them at 2+ to wound? oh yes, very nice indeed.
I am eternal didn;t you know?
Monolith is the Biggy!
A for the Skyrim,,,,,,,OMG! THE AWESOME! so many things you can do, and you do not have to be a slaughter pig to level up, you can do works like normal folks back in those did, crafting food(better health returned if you have recipied food as opposed to raw food. Alchemy will help you level, use any skills like blacksmith or lockpick or your armor and weapon skills to level them for perks, but the upping any skill will let you level up to get more health/magicka/stamina(very important for movement and such. Details of the scenery is also lush, plenty of things to deal with, some towns can have nice things for you, or bad things to make "life" more interesting! It was an amazing bit of gift for me to get it. (An early X-mas gift,,,,as well as a 24" flatscreen to play on, no more old fashioned 480 TV, a 1080 makes things so much more detailed!
Viktor von Domm wrote:oh... misread that... i thought you are your friend^^

Hooray! Cookies for both of ya! Lemme just get 'em outta the oven...
The monolith is a , isn't it? Just looking at it makes me shudder with the thought of assembling one.
And that Harlequin idea is going into my filing cabinet...just imagine, little yellow submarines zooming around, shooting lasers and dumping out a crap load of troops!
Oh you have asked that of my other sponson mounts so many times before Vik, it was inevitable that you'd ask!
Yeah, they are in "repose" as little scarabs are crawling over them doing repair work to get them back in the fight! Some have damage to the heads as well. then the missing leg arm or both!
I really recommend not assembling the monolith till you get it painted. I had a bitch of a time painting some of it... It was not a fun model to assemble or paint...
hmmm... sounds interresting... the models then be usable as themselves? for this i´d think about a shifted position for the ark... like it is making a sharp turn?
I have some "tank" brushes to do that no worries Vik! i just have to make sure it can fit in the paint pot throat to get more paint to apply so maybe a 3/4" tank brush.
The lines between the plates will have scorpion green to make it seem aglow from within, and the "engines" or thrusters and such will be the Tin bitz to show the effect like I did on the arks. Oh and of course there will be parts painted in that wonderfully dark purple to have that theme added in!
for a first coat over black that is very good... the way the thing takes to the paint atm i think only a seond coat here and there and the first color is done!
dsteingass wrote:I like that metallic green, what paint is it?
Just a blend of GW's Burnished gold and dark angel green. More the gold than the green

Oh that took up most of the last batch of the color, had to get more pots of it to mix at a good consistency! It is to be worked on some more!
Is hectic! but worry not, I will be allotting more time to paint and finishing projects now that things are steady, and also likely to see my7 hours drop back down after the Christmas rushes!
That is the way i am going with the scheme, need to retouch though, I just used scorpion green in panel lines to mimic energy glowing from within
now the glow in the dark paint sounds cool...i do see the need of touchups...nut that is the thing how it only works when doing the deatilworks after the main colors... i know this from aching works too... touchup after touchup... may the brushes be with you indeed^^
the big gap in the front... what have you planned for that? i have seen some portal effects... could go well with the glow in the dark paint... and maybe some sculpted swirling surface to suggest a warp or portal thingy there... with that glowy color you use for force effect that could look mighty sweet...
today a nagging feeling about the paintscheme have come to a conclusion... tomorrow i will show you a pic... you´ll laugh your ass off... guaranteed...!
flash might have downtrodden some of the coloreffects there... it is the shapoo bottle my kids use...
the colors are next to identically to your necron scheme... after realizing that it is now very funny to use it to wash my kids... i have to think in terms of crushed and mashed ´crons bottled up to serve one last time as necroon´s^^
Well, not to be outdone by mere lesser beings, (i.e. those Khadrovian tread and rivet mongers) the Necrons strike back in pics with the heavy ghost lights!

As can be seen, the touch ups need re-touching, not finished as yet, but this is how it is with the rods in and as shaping up.
well it is shaping up real good...some purple spots need cleaning up as you said!
those fifteen thingies on the one side i just realized i think would look better done in tinbitz?!
and for my thoughts the big green/golden surfaces might need some breaking up... tho i dunno how...
Sad part is that the Necrons never saw the wisdom of the almighty rivet!
well...actually no one is telling you to not rivet up your robotdoods...but i think if they try to avert rivets...this will be their ultimate downfall...and no coming back from rivethell this time!
exactly... with lots of cheap casted surfaces...like bubbles all blown up and scratches and then some shiny stuff in odd pink and purples... nasty...repent men, repent for yer immortal souls!
So much more to do! build the 2nd ark, paint the damaged warriors/Deathmark snipers/Triarch Praetorians, and the new lord and 2nd cryptek. That is just the Necron projects!
