Hey everybody. This is my first time posting on the DakkaDakka blog section, so here goes nothing.
These are the bases I plan on using for my GK army when they get the new release next month. They were purchased from dragonforge.com. I highly recommend these bases, as they look great and had practically no cleaning necessary for the edges.
So please, give me some feedback. Positive or negative, just not hate-mail lol.
UPDATE - Got the dread primed (black) and based (Boltgun Metal) but now I'm struggling with how to proceed with the painting.
I've washed it with a SUPER diluted badaab black wash, but I really want to get a blue tint going in the corners and edges where the plates meet. However, I'm just not liking any of the results.
I've looked at multiple tutorials, and tried their methods, but none of them really seem to work. Any suggestions?
I've got the blue ink from GW that they all the one's I've seen use, but again, not having much luck.
Liking the bases, especially the one with the Tai Chi (yin-yang symbol) on it. Of course, that could be my bias as a practitioner of the similarly-named art.
It's also apparently auspicious to have it oriented as you have.
Oreo_Golem: Yeah, that was my biggest concern with the yin/yang base. I really liked what it brought to the table, but was worried how it would looks since it came from a different base set all together. But I really like how it turned out, i think it blends nicely.
But I don't think the randomness of it will hurt too much, specially once i get a dread on it and possibly a dead daemon/chaos unit even. Also, a lot, and i mean a LOT of the finished units and bases will be covered in gore - I like my grey knights red!
Just got my late b-day gift from the group I game with and oh am I ever Excited!
Brand new Storm Raven and Crusader for the GK's! Also, almost finished refinishing a poorly constructed Crusader that I got in a trade. Have the body parts stripped down and just got done filing off most of the glue and torn plastic - looks almost like new, but the pats that are rough will easily look like standard wear and tear/battle damage.
Also, still have a leftover Salamander painted redeemer, which will also begin the arduous process of the simple green strip.
Brings the total for the GK's to...
2 x LRC/LRR (Have both weapons magnetized for change)
1 x LRR - will be nice to have an excuse to use one, because I can't change it out
1 x Storm Raven - REALLY WANTED THIS ONE!!
1 x Inquisitor w/ combi weapon
And if that's not enough, tomorrow is 40k Friday, the one night a week where our group gets together to talk s**t, chew bubblegum, and play 40k.
CAN'T WAIT!!! Hope to get the refurbished LRC primed tomorrow, and possibly have the internal components painted and assembled by Saturday Morning.
And no, I have not forgotten about my Ven. Dread, just need to quench the thirst for creation!!!
Nother update for those who care to look. Got 95% of details done on the Redeemer. Still need to do some additions (seals, scrolls, etc.) but should have it done in short order. Then it sill be a simple dirtying up of the area round the treads, the smokestacks, gunbarrels, and some battle damage and we'll be good!
I'm really excited about the near finished result, so please let me know what you think!
The bases are just amazing. I never thought of doing them before adding the models. Basing was always an afterthought to me, but you've made just as important as the model itself. I think I will try this with my next set of models.
I_am_a_Spoon wrote:Love the bright and clean aesthetics. Very eye-catching, but not garish or overdone.
Nice job!
Thank you! I love how the grey knights color scheme is so cohesive. The one thing I'm still trying to work out is a good asurman blue or watered down blue ink wash to lay over the recesses of the army to give it a little bit of subtlety and pop. Trial and error on that one. I'll keep you posted.
BLACKHAND wrote:Looking good so far, I would love to see how a mech heavy GK list does in a game.
What kind of troops are you going to run?
That sir, is the BIG question. I've been trying to build a list for the past few days since the codex got sent out in the black box. Got to take a look at one and got all the actual unit info. It's a vexing problem. At this point, I'm leaning towards...
HQ Grand Master 1 Nemesis Halbred 180
Troop Strike Squad 10 2 x Psycannon, 8 x Force Halbred, Psybolt Ammo 280
Troop Terminator Squad 10 2 x Psycannon, 8 x Force Halbred, Psybolt Ammo 460
Fast Interceptor Squad 5 Psycannon, 4 x Force Halbred, Psybolt Ammo 180
Transport Rhino 2 2 x Hunter-Killer, 2 x Extra Armor 130
Total is 1210 for now
Thinking of swaping out the halberds though to be honest - atleast maybe puttin in a couple warding staves here or there (one in the interceptor squad possibly) and maybe a daemonhammer, but most likely a couple falchions...
Would split the Strike squad to take a rhino a piece, and stick the grandmaster with the termies, or split the termies up if we're running objectives and use grandmaster to make both of them and interceptor scoring units.
However, I'm REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY open to advice and suggestions. The units are just so different than anything else I've ever run (also a SW player, Nids, and have done old gk's).
One of the most promising builds I saw before the codex release was based off the leaked early version and it ran two full strike squads in stormravens, a grandmaster, and three dreadknights.
I have been toying with one army concept - bear with me - it would be what i call a 'blink' force. Lots of deepstriking, fast attack, and teleport homers. Would rely on a librarian or possibly two, and using their teleport ability to constantly change up how the board looks. Warping dreadknights into battle near them, or one i though would be excellent, a landraider filled with paladin squad..... I LOVE THOSE GUYS - just wish they were more plausible and better priced...
so yeah, the simplest way to answer the question is i'm still thinking. I want help though, so please, if you have any advice or suggestions, even one little tidbit, please share. That's why I made this blog. To show what I've done and figure out how to make it better.

Amazing job.
Truthfully, I never had cared about basing either. I did a lame job of it in the past, but grey knights have always been my army. Their fluff, their character, just everything about them I love. So I wanted to do them justice - this is going to be 'my baby' of armies if you know what I mean. I'm not going to sit down and spend a couple hours cleaning and assembling them just to throw them on bases for playability sake. I plan on spending hours on whole 5 man squads, greenstuffing gaps, and making sure each one looks epic. Then I'm planning on priming, basecoating, blue and black washing them off the base, then possibly, POSSIBLY attaching them at that point as I shouldn't run a risk of getting anything on the bases.
The one thing I can say about bases is that I may never go back to static, flat bases again. And you shouldn't either - gives your army so much more character.
Cerebrium wrote:Is that just Mecharite Red? I've been trying to get the red right on the VenDread I've been painting up, and it always seems the red is too dark.
Yup. One thing I will say about it (not sure if it's a common problem or if it's just an isolated incident) is that I have to shake it REALLY well before use. It likes to separate almost too quickly. But yeah, it's a great color. I still need to hit mine with an uber thin wash of badab black just to bring it to the same tone as the rest of the tank.
Those bases look fantastic. They look like they're ready for a professional shoot. Very well done.
If I might add a suggestion, you might want to thin down your paints and add the color in coats. You've got those bases popping nicely, but there's something off-putting about the books and white on the figurines.

Love the GKs though, so consider me subscribed!
I agree - the white just isn't right as of yet, but never fear, I have a plan! may be a cop out, but it's a plan. I've had to touch up a lot of spots on the tank, and since I'm still not quite done (need to add seals and etc), I'm holding off on the final washes. Once I get everything put on and painted up, I'm going to move through a series of washes to bring things up to the same level and also to tone down and merge others.
What I'm really excited about is the battle damage that's going to come after everything else. Some bullet holes here, couple melta streaks there - it will definitely be a learning experience haha!

Also, how did you get the silver so...flat? Mine's always seems to come up streaky, even after a few thin coats.
Well, the basecoat is boltgun metal - only the sword on the book is Mythril Silver - and i washed it with that uber thin wash of badaab black again. It's remarkable really, make it almost nothing but water and it works great to tone it down just enough.
Yeah I do my GK in boltgun instead of mithril, the silver is just too gaudy and bright except for highlights.
As for troop choices I am afraid I am not the guy to ask, not only do I rarely win a game but my GK army is only just squeaking in at 1850 when I add in every model I own, but I really can't afford the new plastics at the moment so an all metal army will have to do.
I have got a BA dread kit on the way to convert into a Dreadknight though so that should be fun!
Nice. I was considering buying the BA chaplain dread arm to add to my ven dread shown above - then I found out that they get the nemesis doomfist and all it would really serve a purpose for would be flash and pizzaz...
...not that pizzaz would be a BAD thing lol
Actually, let me get some feedback from everyone on this - I'm thinking of ordering a set of FWGKLR doors for my other LRC before I start up on the assembly.
Any thoughts? If I were to get one, would probably be the one with the winged Inquisitorial I filled with skulls.
I have a set of doors as well as the LR front hatch, they really do look nice.
And IMHO the doomfist looks rubbish, just an oversized termie hand, anything you can do to make it look more "doomfisty" (its a word look it up!) will help.

I thought about taking the standard fist and giving it the power weapon in the doomfist.... meh... could be nice.
Lol any chance you have a second set of doors you wouldn't mind trading or selling my way? =P just curious!
Sorry bud, no spares . While I may have the smallest and most uncompetitive GK list in history I still want to keep it.
Daemonhunters were my first army and I still have a soft spot for them, Still wondering whether to add in an inquisitor and retinue to my list..will have to get the codex before I make any decisions
I can't blame you. They weren't my first, but they were like the redhead passing me in a crowded room. Caught my eye, and the personality kept me coming back for more.
I don't care what anyone says - they are the coolest army in 40k, and I will defend to the death that claim.
Still.... need to find some damn doors then haha - rhino ones too........
BLACKHAND wrote:Yeah I have some Inq rhino doors as well (had quite FW obsession a while back) sounds like you may need to learn how to cast up your own resin bits
While I would NEVER support casting of other peoples bits *wink*, I do have a couple things of instamold. It works pretty slick, but I"m still working on getting used to how the stuff works. I'm thinking I need to make a mechanism to hold the stuff so that it forms evenly around the bit or model.
Probably do the lego thing everyone else uses... But a greenstuff mold would be better if I wanted to make my own doors, as those are items which I will need Constantly. Any suggestions on how to do it effectively? I'll try to get some copies of what little I've done with it online.
First page has some places to try in various countries, I am just not sure where in the states you would go to buy it.
Believe me when I say you will not actually save money by reproducing bits, but if you need multiples of one particular piece then it is a handy skill to have.
Nice work so far, you are certainly well prepared!
Those bases are cool. I think your Land Raider could do with some battle damage, it looks rather clean! The Dread is looking great, nice touch with the chain.
As for your list, are those points from the new codex? If so, they're a lot cheaper than I thought they'd be. I run BA and was expecting the GK to be more on par with the DC marines.

Notice you didn't mention the Dreadknight?
Yes, the list is built off the new codex. They're decently priced - I think the most expensive unit is 130 for 5 GK's base, no upgrades.
And yes, I REALLY want to run Dreadknights - trying to build a list I like that utilizes 3 of them w/ a Grand Master and a couple of Storm Ravens, but having little luck making a combo I like.
The army i REALLY want to build is what I like to call a 'blink' army - one that utilizes a librarian, interceptors, grand master, dreadknights, and various other stuff. The plan with that army would be to deepstrike in as many units as possible (or turn some into scouts and infiltrate them) and essentially plan on keeping the opponent guessing on what's coming next - maybe have the libby port a whole LRR or LRC w/ squad of termies into the fray form back field, or maybe bring a dreadknight off an objective and within striking distance of their dangerous stuff.
That one is a LOT more tricky, since it relies heavily on passing the psychic tests.
any help with that one would be GREATLY appreciated.
Oh, forgot to mention I've decided the name for the Redeemer, as well as the Soon to Come Crusader.
The Redeemer is 'emporer's wrath' - will simply be dubbed 'Ira'- latin for wrath
The Crusader is 'emporer's mercy' - will simply be dubbed 'clementia' - latin for mercy
Storm Raven 1 - 'Nevermore' - not latin, just BA in my opinion
Storm Raven 2 - UNDECIDED
Ven/Dread 1 - either 'Cato' - good judgement, or 'Elias' - my lord is god
Lol, all of the vehicles/dreads will be named outright before the army is played - will be written on base edges, but the rest of the units shall be named after they prove their worth.
EX- my friend named a Guardsmen 'johnson' after the halo character, after the guardsmen single handedly killed an opponents tank with a terrible, 1 in a million weapon.
THEY MUST WORK FOR THE EMPORER'S RECOGNITION AND PRAISE!
I would recommend a base for the dread though, will look more finished when finished if you get my meaning. (Magnetise the feet if your planning to transport via SR)
As for the 'Blink' army list, I wouldn't worry too much about failing the psychic tests, lets face it, we're marines and if we fail a LD10 test then we should probably be running away anyway!
Wow. i like the way that you are deploying the dread. Jobs a good un so far.
i assume that you are going to wash the whole thing with blackwash and then re drybrush with highlights after is all done. something like that will really bring up the level of the detail.

thanks for the kind words!
And yes, I shall be washing the whole model in a superthin wash of baddab black before the end. Just learned from the redeemer that it's easier to just paint over excessive detail colors then wash than to wash and try to blend multiple layers of washes together... least that's the idea.... we'll just have to see!
i did something very similar to what you did with your doors to my deathgaurd rhino. Made it so i could swap out the driver and the gun if need be. Those magnets are great.
Thing I like the most about them is that (and i JUST found this out working on the removable guns on the front of the raven) they can be readily clipped in half.
Great lookin' land-raider! I think the white is/was much improved on the tattered scrolls... Are you planning any battle damage for that model or Nevermore? The melta heads look good on the LR!
HF Izanagi wrote:Great lookin' land-raider! I think the white is/was much improved on the tattered scrolls... Are you planning any battle damage for that model or Nevermore? The melta heads look good on the LR!
Thanks! And I'm not sure at this point about battledamage. I'd thought about it.... but I must can't decide. I think it would really bring the models to life, but thing is I'm not sure I'm going to dirty up the actual infantry models yet. If i did though, then I'd guarantee the vehicles would be torn to hell.
If you have any suggestions, they'd be more than welcome.
Nice work so far. I love the bases. Everything looks to be painted in typical Grey Knights colors and style. My only recommendation would be to wash the silver with badab black. This will give it a more worn feeling and also ahs the potential to provide a variety of battle wear to the vehicles. Further more, with the silver toned down a little, you can go back over the edges with silver and really make the highlights stand out. best of luck!
Emperors_Champion wrote:Love the chain to attach the dread. I may have to revisit mine now as I didn't bother doing anything like that. So simple but so effective!
Thanks! It's my favorite part of the dread. All it took was a $3 pair of earrings from walmart and I'm rolling in more chain than you can shake a stick at!
Also, UPDATE TIME!!!!
Did this last night till about 2am, lol then the camera died and I couldn't upload. Meh, here they are anyways!
Looking sweet, the thing I would say about weathering is that if you do it to the tanks ( bar exhaust fume etc, stuff that only tanks have) you will have to do the troops like that as well. And with the bases that you have it will have to look just like dust because mud is out of the question I would say, just my opinion
Not sure if it makes a difference, but really the only "weathering" I was planning or even considering doing outside of smoke (exhaust ports, engines, etc) was going to be battle damage and a light drybrushing of the same base colors to make it look like dust as you suggested.
My biggest concern is whether or not I'll be able to make the troops look similar enough to make it convincing.
Looks good! Have you thought of applying a shade to the recesses, though? Maybe there is one, but the camera's flash takes the good of it away... Shading will add a lot of depth to your model and bring out the details.
Unanything wrote:Looks good! Have you thought of applying a shade to the recesses, though? Maybe there is one, but the camera's flash takes the good of it away... Shading will add a lot of depth to your model and bring out the details.
Thanks! I've been working on several test batches of washes (particularly blue) to apply to recesses. And as of yet, I have not planned on putting too much black in the crevices yet. It may happen, but the blue is the big challenge right now.
medabee wrote:Jaw dropping. Absolutely loving the swinging Dread, hope he doesnt get motion sick.
Lol i highly doubt it - he should be use to it after riding in that same seat for centuries! But if not, we'll turn up the power and magnetize him flat against the tail if need be. Low approach anyone?
I would consider shading the recesses as suggested by others and also drilling the gun barrels. If you don't have a drill then painting black dots would also help!
Must admit though the GK colouts do work better than BA!

That's the one thing that has truly surprised me about GK's. The GW colors blend together easily - giving the best of both worlds; cohesion and variance. The default boltgun metal and skull white, when washed with watered down baddab black wash with royal blue and mechrite red just look outstanding. That's really all I've done so far.
Now for the Asurmen Blue wash.... terrified is putting it mildly.
Hello everyone. Been a little busy as of late, but since GK's hit saturday I'm picking things back up (whether i should or not =P)
Here's an update on the dread posted earlier, as well as some pics of the Forgeworld order that just arrived. Should have the second dread assembled within the week... but plans are meant to be changed, so stay tuned!!!
Just an update for those who believe me to be dead. I am not, fortunately, however I sometimes wish I was.
Weeks leading up to finals are No Bueno.
Anywho, just a count update, still no camera...
4 x psycannon troops assembled
3 x justicars assembled
8 x standard gk's assembled
Next on the list is to finish another box of standard gk's, followed by the two boxes of Termies I have. From there, Probably my other Stormraven, then the FW dread, then the last Land Raider.
Also, I must bid farewell to my Space Wolves. They served me well, but I wish to start anew with them. Sold them to a buddy that's super interested in playing, so there's that. Going to put what cash i got from the sale towards a case for my GK's (battlefoam most likely), a special set of die, and prolly 4 razorbacks so I have transport options for smaller scale battles. And what's left will be put aside until I am ready to start work on my SW's again. They shall be glorious! Just not GK glory.... =P
Again, SO sorry for the lack of updates, but just too damn busy. Also, please feel free, give me feedback on what you'd like to see, what you think of what's there now, and what you think I should add.
Really want the community to hit me up with ideas. Thanks!
Sorry for the lack of updates recently. Have had a lot of work between finals, new job, and moving into my summer residence from the dorms.
I've got all my GK's built, just adding the final detail pieces to the last 6 guys.
You'll notice no heads attached, and that's what the last contraption pictured is for. Going to pin the heads to the wire shoved in the foam so that I can prime the appropriate ones white for the purifiers.
On a side note, been looking into getting an Airbrush in the coming weeks once I get my paycheck. Figure it would be a good investment to get now since I have plenty of time outside of work to practice. Hope to have updates coming in a more consistent fashion soon.
Quick update. Here's the basecoat for my GK scheme.
Based in Boltgun Metal, then applied a very watered down coat of mythril silver all over. I like how it makes the armor look a little more multidimensional, or deep.
medabee wrote:Nice and shiny, need more demon blood on blade.
Very true. Haven't gotten that far as the blades will be one of the last parts i paint. Can't decide if I want to do the lightning for the power swords or if I want to do the fancy gradients which i see now a days.
HUZZAH! Proud to announce I'm keeping up with the updates.
Here's what's been done so far on the Purifier.
Baddab Black/ Distilled Water (1/3) - used on folds in armor on knees/hips and in the lines on armor
Wash of Asurmen Blue/ Distilled Water (1/4) - all over
Wash of Baddab Black/ Distilled Water (1/3) - All Over
Then the gold was done like this
Beastial Brown/shining gold (1/1 w/ equal parts distilled water)
shining gold / burnished gold - (1/1 w/ equal parts distilled water)
Burnished gold - equal parts distilled water
wash of gryphon sepia
Moving on to the seals. Trying to get it done before 9:00pm. Wish me luck!
And, again, PLEASE GIVE ME FEEDBACK!!! THIS ARMY IS MY BABY AND I WANT ITTO BE AS AMAZING AS POSSIBLE. IDEAS AND SUGGESTIONS WELCOME TOO!!!
Looks pretty good, It looks like you're going for a darker silver than the normal one, are you just going to Boltgun metal with them? if you want to go darker use Badab Black wash and leave it like that you can get it looking pretty grim dark that way
I do like the idea of different purity seals heads it adds more colour to the model with out detracting from the over all scheme. Is it just me or have you weathered the tabbard? looks promising!
With the inclusion of your photos being able to zoom as far in as I can, the highlighting on the Storm bolter looks like the paint may have not been thinned with water before being applied?
What are you using for the writing on the should pad? looks quite good and I'll be using the idea of having the inquisitor I as a page on the books as I struggle to come up with ideas to fill in the pages.

The lining on the bolter was my first attempt at highlighting, and yes, it was NOT thinned. point taken.
And to do the scroll work and stuff like that, i just used a small tip brush and hand scribbled it. The name on the shoulder was done with a micro fine point sharpie. I always use it for letters, as i like them to be blocky and readable. just use the edge of it and you'll be fine.
Also, just cause I'm anal about symmetry, i suggest counting letters and using the middle one or middle two as a start point and work outwards from there. It's never led me wrong.
Oh, and the tabbard was done in white and then i washed with the magic of devlan mud (thinned of course) to take the color down, and then i just did a bit of dry-brushing the bottom edge with graveyard earth and baddab black - then a focused wash of devlan again.
Great work on the eyes! I wish mine came out like that. Can I ask how are you doing the white? from the pic's it looks quite streaky and a bit see through or it might be a bit dirty? was that the effect you were going for? were you also going to go back and redo the black storm bolter highlighting? I use shadow grey and cover it with a wash of Badab black to hopefully dull it even further.
@Knightly - I primed the head with games workshop white primer - then coat with a thinned layer skull white.
Wasn't originally going for dirty, but i like how it looks with the rest of the armor.
Truth be told, I'm a bit dissapointed with the final result - i failed my own rules and rushed a bit with it. Still like it and I probably won't change it, but it's definately something I'll improve on.
Oh, and to get the eyes i just painted the sockets black first then ice blue.
Automatically Appended Next Post: UPDATE - Did a little more wash tinkering with Janua before bed, and I like the end result. Looks a little dirtier, but it blends well with the rest of the paint scheme. Also helps make his eyes pop.
Don't expect to see pictures this weekend, as I'm heading back to college to game it up with my friends, but I will try to get a lot accomplished and update you Monday. Have a good one!
Well, got some more guys painting underway (should have them done soon!!!)
Sat back with my 40k mentor and had a lengthy discussion about how I make lists. After a good two to three hours of discussion, I felt better prepared to make an effective list that is not just the standard spam of lameness but could still be effective. This is the result:
10 x SS - 2 x PC/8 x FH, psybolt - Rhino w/ HKM = 325
10 x SS - 2 x PC/8 x FH, psybolt - Rhino w/ HKM = 325
10 x Termies - 2 x Daemonhammers, psybolt = 420
Dread - TLLC/ML = 150
Dread - TLLC/ML = 150
Warband: 2 x servitors w/ multimelta, 1 x servitor w/ plasma cannon
Razorback w/ psybolt = 90
Inquisitor- Power Armor, 2 x servo-skulls, bolt pistol & chainsword = 39
Grand total of 1499pts
Idea is that dreads sit back and lay siege to tanks first, then hit squads with missiles, as Rhino's barrel GK's into that 24'' range for the Storm bolters. Termies will combat squad and deepstrike in early to keep opponents busy until SS arrive. Inquisitor and Warband ride in razorback, razorback primarily just adding more fire into the mix and helping bridge the 24''+ gap with TLHB and psybolt ammo. The servitors and inquisitor can be dropped on an objective or pop out to defend razorback/shoot at a pesky squad or tank.
This is very slimmed down list for me, as I tried to limit my upgrades and get as many units on the field as possible, also trying to give everyone a role to play.
Having not really looked into army lists, I can't really comment on the list you've got there. I have heard that twin linked auto cannons with Psybolt ammo are quite tasty indeed.
Alright, so here's what has happened since Friday:
1) 4 GK's based, washed, gold painted - ready for detail work
2) New List created (as was previously posted, but it was a HUGE accomplishment for me so I'll mention it again haha)
3) 2nd Dreadnought created (pics below, check out the custom, kit-bashed multimelta)
4) Decided to re-purpose my SW rhino's into GK Rhino's - so 4 rhino's = SWEET
5) 2 Rhino's soaking in simple green - should be stripped by tuesday/wednesday
6) Traded friend a rhino and some bits for a razorback = Total vehicles of 2 x LRCR/R, 2 x SR, 5 x Rhino's/Razorbacks
7) Bought new bit's storage shelf - should help with organization, which i'm struggling with
8) Trying to sell/ Trade my SW army, so let me know if you're needing anything haha
9) Re-organized my work space - workflow much improved
10) Purchased 8 sets of arms, 6 halberds for GK's, 50'' ethernet cable for the good ol xbox (need to play some Black Ops zombies to relax)
11) SUPER EXCITED ABOUT THIS ONE - IRON MONGERS ARE OFFICIALLY UNDERWAY!!! Purchased 10 x MK III Crusade armor via ebay, only thing they lack are the weapons, which is fine by me.
So yeah, that's what's happened this weekend so far. Plan for tomorrow is....... undecided haha. I'm thinking some priming sounds good, but so does hitting the pool for a lil R&R.
PLEASE GIVE ME FEEDBACK ON THE DREAD AND THE MULTIMELTA!!! PLEASE!!!!
@ Knightly - The leg will be as is. Trying to give it a more dynamic look than the first dread. But, if I can find a way to cut the toes off and reposition them effectively, I may to that. But for right now, as is.
So, can I ask what you thought of the custom multimelta?
Ah yep, cutting and re-positioning toes, sounds like fun....
I like the multimelta, I had concerns the end part was a bit long for the length of the pipes that support it (shaving off 2mm of the total length of the end part might bring a different proportion) have you thought about adding piping onto the canisters to the rear of the back housing?
@ Knightley - I hadn't thought about it till now, but it's not a bad idea. I'll look into what kinds of options I have.
Thing with this dread was that I wanted a unit in the army just plastered with seals. But I don't want it to look gaudy. I fee like I need to add more to it, but that balancing act between cool and ridiculous is tough when you only have so many bits and very limited greenstuff skill...
I think you have some room to plaster some more seals across the dreadnought's legs without being over the top. A Venerable Dreadnought will accumulate plenty, I think. I really like your work so far, I'm going to steal ideas for my own Brotherhood of Grey Knights.
What is that terminator-armoured model in your post with all the boxed set pictures in it? The one in the second last picture, I don't recognize it.
@ GreyHamster - That is a forge world model, Inquisitor Lord Hector Rex. He's missing a few parts, as I got him in a trade and didn't realize he was missing them haha. No biggie though, cause I'm going to mod him out to be a standard Inquisitor in Termi Armor.
And PLEASE, feel free to take my ideas. imitation is the highest form of flattery, and if I can have any ideas that help other's in their quest for 40k brilliance than I am happy to oblige.
UPDATE - got other dreads arms magnetized, and both dreads are pinned to bases now. Haven't gotten to the rhino's yet, probably willl here in a bit.
Currently working on ideas for a Power Armored Inquisitor. Should have pics up later today. Kinda lazier today than I had originally intended haha.
ooh, a PA-Inq sound's promising! have you based it off of any previous ideas or just went with the flow?
Bugger... even when sitting here typing my mind is racing on ideas for a inquisitor in PA which means I could very well end up doing something similar to you, heaven knows I have the spare bits...
@ Knightley - I'm using a robed lets bit from Ravenwing, a GK chest that has the I on it, and a standard back. Debating on not putting on a backpack, as I'm sure an inquisitor wouldn't need one.
And also deciding which head to use, a robed one or a half-borg one..... decisions. What do you think so far? Which head do you prefer?
Adjusting the knights right now, as I now have 8 that have to be re-equipped with Halberds... yeah for changing lists! But at least I'm keeping up with the progress.
OH, got more seals on the dread, and got the rhino's out of the green bath and they're almost dry! Plan on priming them sometime this weekend.
I favor the cloaked head as well. I really like the Dreadnought plate as a shoulderpad too.
I've never really been a fan of the semi-mechanized parts, but it makes sense an inquisitor would do whatever was necessary. That said, the aesthetic just doesn't seem to have the right air of dominance for a senior inquisitor.
I agree that the hooded head is very inquisitor-y and shadowy, the part cyborg head is awesome but surely a good inquisitor has people to get shot in the face on his behalf and wouldnt necessarily put himself in harms way unless it was of the utmost importance IMHO
If you do decide on a backpack I would suggest using something other than the standard marine pack such as a SOB pack or the old scout backpack
(I am a huge fan of the scout backpack, but they are getting harder to find, the scanner thing that stick up just looks cool I reckon)
These are smaller than the marine ones and look a bit more techy possibly showing he access to arcane/crafted tech or that he doesnt need the bigger powercells to enable him to fight for weeks and weeks, in effect a mission size pack and not a campaign size pack if you get my meaning
Otherwise he could just end up looking like a nicely converted marine in an army of nicely converted marines
@ DaemonJellybaby - Thanks! I'm glad so many people are liking the model. Also, thank you for the idea with the standard pack. I'll look into it, as you've given me several ideas..... =)
@ Kenshin620 - Thank you too for the dread comment. That's one of the models in the army that is going to be my baby. And it was actually pretty funny how I decided to use the cannon. I was attempting to find a proper way of adding the AoBR multimelta tip to the end of a saw'd off ven las-cannon when I dropped the tip into my bits box. After a few minutes of searching in one partion, i saw it sticking out of one several inches over. When I pulled it out, found out it was the flamestorm cannon haha. Figured since it fooled me once, f*** it! And here we are.
UPDATE - Nothing to update lol. Just saying it to say it. Finally decided on a production order Monday..... and then today I decided to scrap it haha. I just want to play so damn bad, I've decided to just get everyone assembled and pinned to the bases so I can get some games in when the opportunity rises (may be tough as nobody in my hometown plays, nearest store is half hour away and they're 40k fan-base is small but growing, and I just don't really have the time except on weekends lol).
But who knows, maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised and find an opponent rather soon.
If your experiences are like mine, someone will scoop the moment you resolve Fortitude on two TLAC dreads with ravagers caught in the open.
Looking forward to see how your custom Inquisitor turns out, I have half a mind to make my own now. Venerable Dreadnought parts, a hundred and one uses.
@ GreyHamster - See, It's not that I don't love the psyfle-man dreads (havne't used the knights yet, but the idea is ooh so mean), but the entire list was designed as an all comers list. I'll get some TLAC's eventually.
But for right now, the list was designed to the best of my abilities to take on all challengers and any gametype as best as I think I will be able to. It's VERY liable to change, however, so stay tuned.
Thanks for the input though, it's good to know ravegers can be mowed down. Haven't seen that happen yet haha.
Automatically Appended Next Post: So, yeah..... I'm reluctantly happy right now. Finished up turrets and standard addon's on the two rhino's, so they're ready for seals, scross, what not. That's the good news.
Bad news is we just got softball sized hail, and now I have no back window on my car, only a rather large, obnoxiously non-uniform hole with glass and water everywhere....
So yeah..... Wish my car was ACTUALLY a rhino... that would make things a hell-uv-a-lot better ending right now...
So now I'm moving on to some terminators, and wishing that mother nature wasn't such a B****.
@ inmygraveimage - Thanks! I tried to take Asylum_Inmates advice about the scout pack, but tried to make one instead.
I had thought about using melta bomb's for the ends, but then remembered the las-cannon tips and here we are!
I think I might try my hand at Green stuffing either an Inquisitorial 'I' on both legs, or on just one with something else one the other, and then the model will be complete!
OH, also found a pose on the base which I really like. Looks basically the same, but his foot is farther back and closer to the edge. He's not centered, but it truly looks like he waling across the base.
Automatically Appended Next Post: AND THANK YOU VERY MUCH ASYLUM_INMATE FOR THE INSPIRATION FOR THE PACK! IT'S MY FAVORITE PART OF THE CONVERSION!
I really like how that backpack came out, the laurels really add some detail on what could of ended up being large areas of bare plastic, an elegant exmaple of why you should never throw things away.
The only thing I would do to this model if it were mine would be to do something to the bolt pistol to make look less standard, a silencer or a scope or both, but thats just my own personal opinion and the model would still be awesome if it was left the way it is
Now that, is an inquisitor. I now regret having just used the lascannon normally. Have you thought about the color scheme you're going to use, and do you have a shot of the second pose you mentioned?
(by the by, TLACs are pretty much an all-comers choice since there's almost always MCs, AV10-12, or small fire support squads to shoot)
@ Asylum_Inmate - Yeah, I feel the same way. Went ahead and added a modified silencer and a scope just for reference. Not sold on the scope yet. Also thought it would be awesome to add a chain to the hilt of the pistol running back to the body. Making it so that his weapon is guaranteed to never be out of reach. Inquisitor's are prepared like that. Or so I'd assume. Well, you know what they say when you assume...... yeah..... shutting up now...
Quick update - This is a paint scheme I'm considering for the inquisitor. If not, it sure as hell will be my Librarian's paint scheme!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Just a little update before I hit the sack.
Terminator #1-#5 Clipped and sorted, bases already picked out.
Terminator #1 Assembly Complete, waiting to be pinned to base. Rockin a Daemonhammer. Positioned on the back side of the base, so that the large, vacant area underneath the hammer's head will be covered in gore like he just bashed an unfortunate foe's life out of existence.
Some nice conversions here. Knightley mentioned the dread's foot, a tip here - bending it is the way to go, but be gentle with it, then if it cracks use a little GS to fill in. It's very easy. If you want I have a photo here http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/121529-Furioso%20Librarian.html?m=2 in my gallery of my furioso librarian conversion and you can see how it looks. I have another death company one which is more extreme, in a running pose too, if you want I can photo this too and show you where to cut the legs.
Keep up the good work, and get painting those conversions!
I like the multimelta you made for the dread, but I agree with the previous post, some tubes from the melta canisters would look ace.
Just go to a music shop and buy an appropriately sized Bass Guitar string, put a tiny hole in each end of the gun you want the string to stick out of, bend and cut the string to shape, then put a small amount of greenstuff in the holes you created and stuff the string in right behind it, the GS will fill the gap and hold the sting in place, and with a small tool you can carve the remaining GS that gets pushed out around the string at its base into a simple pattern. I am convinced thats how the GW sculptors do it, and I've done it on tons of models.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, I love the modifications to the inquisitors' gun, Inquisitors should have "special" looking weapons.
@ Asylum_Inmate - I agree. I didn't want to go with the standard silencer that the scout packs have on their bolt pistols, so what I did was actually clip the tip off of one of their sniper rifles and file it down so it was a little longer than the normal silencer. Then I just drilled it down the barrel, and decided to give it a more "assault weapon feel" in my mind, by giving it the pressure release holes all down the barrel. The scope I was hesitant about, but in the end I think you were right and it works well. Favorite part though was the chain idea, cause i think it really ties the weapon back into the rest of the model because it shows how it is physically a part of it, and less of a slapped one modification after the fact. And, once again, THANK YOU FOR THE INPUT! IT IS MUCH APPRECIATED!!!
@ Hologram - Thank you! 'Lucius' had more work donw on him than any other model I'd ever tried to customize. I wanted him to actually LOOK like an inquisitor, because running another power armored model in ANY marines army is like adding a drop of water to a bucket in my mind. Hopefully though, after i get the legs GS'd with inquisitorial 'I''s on them, It will complete the air of 'I'm here to crucify you'r a**'. Also, I'm going to try to doll up the pistol a lil more, nothing extravagant, but another I on either side of the chamber wouldn't be too terribly tough I think....
@ alexneufeld - LOVE THAT DREAD!!! How'd you make that custom psychic hood..... I'm guessing that's what it is. And feel free to post that image if you'd like! I'm going to give that a try later once I wake up a bit more haha. I have a third dread which I do not yet own - It's on the list of crap to do lol - and I've been thinking of something to do to make it look beastly, so please feel free to give any suggestions. One idea I had was to make it look like a chaos dread torso was underneath it, and cut or burn out a hole through one side like it was wither LC'd or lanced from a great distance. I'd paint the dread black or nugle, and the edges would be painted to look like boiling red hot metal with the dread either A) standing over it with the LC pointed down at the remains or B) Striding over it without thinking too much about it, possibly crushing or about to crush the head that was in the thing. What ya think? Lol and in the event that I do not use that for the dread idea, the back up idea is the same thing on one storm raven's base to give it a little more pizzaz.
@ Demogerg - Now I LIKE that idea. I may not buy a new one, but my best friend has literally 7 or 9 guitars/basses, so I'm sure he's got something broken that I could snag and use. Lol and if he doesn't now, he surely well with how much he plays! Thanks for the idea and the input, will DEFINITELY look into it! AND, thank's for the kinds word's about the Inquisitor's gun. If you like that one though, just wait till the armies done. Then I'm going to come back and make options for the rest of his optional weapons.
WOW, lots of comments guys, REALLY APPRECIATE IT! Still wanting to know what you think of the paint job idea as well, so please don't forget about that!
I'm off to eat some breakfast, than potentially dredge some garage sales for some potential conversion materials, terrain, or just some sweet deals. Have a good one and check back later for more of Titan's Legion!

The one thing I can say about the pistol is a friend of mine who plays Marines thought it looked a bit like an Infernus pistol - after I explained it was a stylized silencer, he retracted that statement, but there it is.

Lol I kinda thought about that after the fact as well, haha, but I think after I get the mods finished and get it painted up it will be a lot easier to distinguish it.
Well, it's official - I now have a terminator squad!
Got the first 5 finished! Just have to pin the justicar to the base tomorrow and throw on a little bit of seals/extras and they are complete, leaving me with only 5 more termies and a razorback to assemble.
Not gonna lie, very surprised I was able to get them done this weekend with all the random things that happened. Especially considering the afternoon was spent at the pool haha. ANYWAYS, let me know what you think. Thanks!
cosmic pixie wrote:Your models look amazing - the bases really make them look even more gothic. Brilliant work!
Thanks for the kind words! It took a while to find the proper poses for each base, and longer to get the right pieces together for the pose. But I really like how they turned out.
ESPECIALLY PROUD of the Justicar. He surpassed even my best hopes.
Knightley wrote:Really liking the poses of your term's Markillius!
I guess the next hurdle you have is painting them up
Lol that WILL be the next hurdle, after I get the next 5 completed, swap out a squad of PAGK's blades for halberds, assemble my Razorback, and play a damn game of zomibes on black ops. I haven't touched a video game in the 3+ weeks since the semester ended.
BUT 40K IS WAY BETTER. So not too concerned haha... O_o
And, as usual, thanks for the props and criticisms. It's the only way to improve my abilities! I think you'll like the next 5 poses just as much!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Short Update - Justicar has addons now. Completed 6th termi as well (made it to count as Justicar in case I want to run 2 five man squads).
Sorry for no pics, my SD card reader is on the blink.
Just saw this thread last night, spent some good time since then skimming through it, looking at the pictures... what kind of supposed college student has the disposable income to get all those GK kits!? Otherwise, nice work. I like your melta dread, even though that it's a GK dread outfitted for ranged fitting is... different. Also really like your inquisitor, and am interested in seeing how you do the term inquisitor when you do.

Thanks for checking out the thread, glad you liked what you see!
And as to the disposable income question, I saved, saved, and saved some more just to afford what I was able to get (I don't EVER want to see Ramen Noodles AGAIN). O_o....
And the dreads are going to be tried and tested with all weapons combinations, just like the rest of the army, to verify the success/failure of the overall army build. It sux, I've had these guys since they were released, the SR and the LRR were done before the release, and I STILL haven't played with them.... So yeah, it may sound like a strange setup, but it's the best I can think of right now without being a noob and pulling a Razor/Psyfleman Dread/Purifier spam list - NOT DISSING THAT HOWEVER! Those who play to win have their-selves a great list, but I just don't like winning if it's not fun.
AND thank you for the inquisitor comments! I'm very proud of the little bugger, and I'm stuck deciding if I will make a Termi variant on Lucius Forgran, or make an entirely different Inquisitor..... It shall be a hefty dilemma.
Now for the UPDATE:
2 Termies Left!!!! Still no camera though... I hate my SD reader right now.....
Also, planning on having a HUGE update for my Iron Mongers blog in a bit, so stay tuned for that if you're interested.
Only thing left is the Razorback and correcting the Halberds which can easily be done in an hour or so (the halberd, the razor will take longer), but yeah, things are looking up!
I'm a fan of the pointing finger one (left most) but with the hammer, the staff isn't leader material imo is the arm locked in place, I believe that a pointed finger should be pointing at something, not at the ground hes about to walk on
Could be poking a map on a table, just sayin'. Though, I do have a similar pose in mind to do with a fem inquisitor of mine, besides that she would be more gesturing as though the enemy were some dog... "Come here, boy." But yeah, otherwise the arm might have some use being some other direction
@ all - No worries, the arms are all magnetized, so it can point higher. Just check out the first pic I posted of it and You'll see that it can point higher.
Thanks for the input though, lol, cause the masses are rarely wrong!
Didnt realize you had this much work put through these. Unbelievably jealous there arent models out to make my Scars look this bad ass. but we'll have to see if they play as good as they look. Rather interested to see what you do with the Razorback I traded you. Seeing everything else you've done theres amazing potential.

Thanks! Like I've said far too many times (and driven you and the gang NUTS about), Grey Knights are the reason I started this game, and they're the reason I keep playing. I love everything about the army. And don't worry, the razorback will blow your mind and I've got some sweet ideas to help with your scars. Just wait till school starts, then the fun shall begin!
Well, Titan's Legion is going on Sabbatical for a little bit, as I've been so focused on the army that it's starting to lose its appeal, and THIS I CANNOT ALLOW!
So, expect serious updates in a week or two, though there may be the occasional post.
I will be focusing on the Iron Mongers - link in signature - and getting backstory, heraldry, paint schemes, test models, etc. worked on as it is a much more casual state of creation for me.
Hope to be back here very soon with more GK action.
Knightley wrote:Stink that you have to put them on hold, how else am I going to get ideas for my models now?
Anyway, I'll keep an eye on this in about 2 weeks to see your updates
Hey now, just because I'm stepping away from MY GK's, doesn't mean I won't give YOUR GK's advice lol. Just hit me up via pm any time bud. And I'll probably be asking you some questions from time to time on the IM's.
UPDATE - Well, got myself two Techmarines and a Multimelta servitor via trade. Bye bye Canis Wolfborn and droppod, hello face melting and orbital relays.....
Just something to look forward to haha. Might end up using one techmarine for the mongers, but that's just a maybe... =)
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, forgot I also picked up a libby. Got another trade waiting on my end to go through for a Space Hulk Libby, which is going in this army. The standard one was just icing on a very delicious trade cake. Not sure what to do with him yet. Might just have to have two libby army list haha.
Hello from the land of my other blog, long time no see!
WELL, here is the deal.
I've been doing some trading and gotten a bunch of stuff for my GK's. Here are pics of what's new that I've gotten, and a comprehensive list of all the models for the army as of now:
1 x Pewter Castellan Crowe
1 x Pewter Lord Kaldor Draigo
3 x Terminator Librarians (1 x pewter, 1 x fine cast, and 1 x Space Hulk - trade goes through TOMORROW!!!)
2 x Pewter Techmarines & servoharnesses
2 x Multimelta servitors (1 x pewter, 1 x FW Hector Rex's retinue dude who shall be given a MM)
2 x Dreadnoughts
1 x Dreadknight (YES!!! FINALLY HAVE ONE!!!)
5 x Rhino's - 1 Razorback Turret
2 x Storm Ravens
1/2 x LRC/R (the 1/2 mean one or two, cause my mongers need another Achilles.... =])
15 x Terminators
20 x PAGK
And I'm probably forgetting something, but it's been crazy as of late between work, the mongers, and just trying to stay physically and mentally healthy. Lots of running, reading, and 40k goin on here haha.
And THAT's about it for now. Next week I'll be hard at work on the painting of the GK Strike Squad #1 again, so please forgive me if I do get distracted by more packages coming in for Iron Mongers *crosses fingers*.
Asylum_Inmate wrote:That's quite the collection of shiny bits, guess this blog might get busy again lol
Oh and I've decided, your camera is much better than mine
TECHNICALLY, It's not my camera, it's the folks. Mine was the same model though Kodak M1033 Easyshare. Unfortunatley, travel claimed it's life somewhere in Arkansas. I HIGHLY recommend it.
well I 'had' 2 cameras, a 10MP which wont fire up anymore and an old 4MP which uses a set of Duracell batteries for every 30 pics I take, so I guess I am looking to get a new one might take a look at that model
On an unrelated note to the above... I am totally stealing your Land Raider paint scheme for my own Deathwing group, different colors of course but the way you painted it is brilliant.
Did I say steal? I meant of course that my scheme will be reminiscent of yours in ever lasting tribute. >.>

j3r03n wrote:....And I want your Inquisitor. Gief! (Just reached the end of all posts thusfar, impressive job, Sirrah. And I share the Ramen Sentiment)
Lol that one, I'm afraid I can't allow. If you choose to make one, then more power to you. But if you'd like a hand making your own, I'd be more than happy to help.
WELL, here's the good news. I have not yet given up on GK's!!!
Bad news.... I have overtime at work all week, my car's leaking oil, and so I've been put into a bad mood..... So no update as of right now. I'll see if I can't pull myself out of the funk with some videogames. Sorry to have to make you wait longer.
Quick update - Got my Space Hulk Libby in today. Looks REALLY sweet. Can't wait to start modding it.
And got my car back, turns out it was just a stupid overlook my dad and I made when we were changing out the oil filter - didn't realize the old gasket didn't come off with it so it just wasn't sealing completely and therefore leaking oil.
I've resolved myself to the fact that there's most likely going to be little painting to be done this week because the overtime is taking away a significant amount of free time each evening. BUT FEAR NOT!!! I am still working diligently on the army, and you are in for one helluva update once things settle back down this weekend.
Unless I go to the LFGS and attempt to splatter some orks with my Knights.
Lol yeah, this summer's a good one, but it's not lending itself to as much army work as I'd originally planned. But that's life I suppose.
So, as per usual, things did NOT go according to plan this weekend. I did not end up getting any painting done.
However, I did get my Space Hulk Libby cleaned up and converted (Pictures to follow). Also completed the following:
1 x Multimelta Servitor
1 x Techmarine w/ Servo Harness (will add a few bits then it's done)
The bulk of the weekend, however, was spent playing two games between the hours of 11pm and 5 am both Friday and Saturday night.
Both games were against my best friend (who is new to the game) and these were his 4 and 5th games. He was running White Scars.
I did not have a camera on hand. Just need to buy a new one. However, I will do my best to give you an idea of how things went.
Results:
Game 1 - 1500 pts
My List:
1 x Ordo Maellus Inquisitor - 2 x servo skulls
3 x servitors (2 x multimelta, 1 x plasma cannon)
1 x Razorback - HB w/ psybolt ammo
2 x 10 man Strike Squad's - 2 x Psycannons, 8 x Halberds, Psybolt - 1 x Rhino w/ Hunter Killer
1 x 10 man Terminator squad - 2 x Daemonhammers, psybolt
2 x Dreadnoughts (2 x ML, 1 x LC, 1 x MM)
Game was capture and control, deployed along long table edges
Game ended w/ one point held by my combat squaded termies (3 left), and my inquisitor and remnants of one strike squad contesting another, while my two dreads sat on the 3rd and 2nd levels of a ruin the entire game wailing on his initially controlled point and devastator squad.
Did not move ANYTHING between placement and turn 3. Not sure what that says, but I was able to keep him down by blasting his rhino early (also he only had one rhino for his 3 tac squads). He split his bikers, but I was able to smoke them out early with the psycannons. He had Speeders, but They also went down quick because of Combat squading. Both of us kept termies in reserve (he only has 5 but used them all), mine deepstruck onto the objective in the center of the table combat squaded, and one ran off to take on his vets while the other shot at the rhino, killing it on turn 2.
Best memory of the game was watching his termies (3 remaining) run to within an inch of the board, only to turn around and continue the fight.
Great game, got me pumped for GK's, and gave me a taste of what they could do. Made some errors, and planned accordingly the next game.
Game 2 - 1250 pts
HQ - 1 x Ordo maellus Inquisitor - 3 x servo skulls
2 x MM servitors
1 x Razorback - HB w/ psybolt
2 x 10 man strike squads (8 x halberds, 2 x psycannons, psybolt) - just realized I messed up, because i built the list w/o the justicar having a halberd, so just one more thing we f'd up on.
2 x Rhino's - HK 1 x 5 man Terminator squad (5 x halberds, psybolt)
2 x Dreads (2 x TLAC w/ psybolt, 1 x ML, 1 x Plasma Cannon)
Was sieze ground, deployed in opposite corners, I placed my objective on 3rd floor of building, had TLAC dread standing guard on 3rd floor (also gave him range over ruins in middle of board)
Placed other dread on edge of deployment zone behind ruin, flanked by a rhino. other rhino and Razorback deployed behind ruin and other cover.
Similar to other game, but he cut out some fat. Was surprised I was able to keep the list so similar. Did miss the termies though.
Game ran similar to the first. I kept him back thanks to dread's, psycannons, and the 2 x servitor MM's, all of which were huddled around the ruin in the center of the map which was providing them cover. Deep struck my termies in quadrant beside his, and ran them towards his objective. They did not make it, though the last termi made it within fair range to move and assault his commander on my next turn. Also, he made a save on a perils of the warp test, which was crazy.
He deepstruck 2 x speeders behind the dread and the rhino, melting the dread. SS psycannon's wailed on his TB bikes while the AC dread wiped his speeders out, then he dropped in his 5 x termies to flank all my units except the AC dread in the building.
Game ended in him winning a valiant fight by rolling over a 1 to run part of a squad into control range of his control point. His other units tied up my GK's so they couldn't get into my ruin and to the 2nd floor. He realize last turn his commander couldn't score, lol, as I had realized just before he did... was hoping for a sadistic draw haha.
Well, what I learned from this weekend:
1) finally understand WHY the psyfleman dread IS good (psybolt makes ACstr 8, double the standard Toughness of 4, meaning instant wound/death) Even wipes termies fairly well inspite of the Inval save.
2) GK termies are WONDERFUL with Halberds.... so long as they opponent doesn't SAVE from them haha.
3) Psychic test are not that bad. Only faced perils of the warp twice in last game, and saved from it once, both in the 5 man termie squad
4) SS's can deepstrike, though it didn't really occur to me until after the fact. But I still wouldn't have done it.
5) Playing is SO MUCH BETTER than building. I enjoy both, but DAMN I'm glad I was able to get some games in.
6) I need to get my army painted, becuase playing on bases that units aren't glued to can be a considerable pain.
7) That 24''effective range is not terribly tough to work around, the key is to play smart (don't give up stupid points, always face strongest armor sides of transports to opponents, etc)
SO, the plan is this week to get SOME work done on the strike squad (PLEASE DEAR GOD ANYTHING!!!), get the rest of the army primed, and prepped for painting, get the SH Libby pinned, same with the TechMarine and Servitor.
Also, want to figure out a potential list (for fun) running 2 x techmarines w/ orbital strike relay's in a 1500 pt game. Just for fun.
Update - Working on base for the Libby, found something a little different that shows him off. Debating about cutting out his face to put in the Justicar Helm still..... Will wait for decisions until the camera gets in and I get pics uploaded.
Planning on priming the army tomorrow, getting everything left finished.
So, here's the deal. I have NO idea how to paint them haha. I want some opinions.
The libby, I don't know if I should go with the traditional Blue style, go with a standard GK paint scheme like they show on GW official site, or do a basecoat like the scheme I've been using and just heavily wash it with asurmen blue.
As for the Inquisitor, the waist sash and the hood will be dictated by the color scheme. I want to stay away from black, but I'm not opposed to it. I've been looking around and there's TONS of gold, green, and red inquisitors. But I was leaning towards a lighter blue for the armor.
I don't know, probably a Black armor with white and gold for the detailing would be pretty kool.
Thoughts?
Also, CAMERA SHIPPED TODAY!!! SHOULD BE HERE TOMORROW!!! PREPARE FOR PICS!!!!
I've always liked a hybrid color approach to librarians. Maybe a standard silver with blue shoulder pads or something. For the inquisitor, I would try for colors that would offset those of the rank and file grey knights. Black and white sound good together, but the gold and white may clash a little, both of them being light colors

True, but the white would be darkened and dirtier than the standard white. Similar to the latest pic of my purifier 'Janua.'
And as far as the hybrid scheme, I had not thought about that. Now, I'm not a big fan of the idea of blue shoulders on a grey body, but there are a LOT of options. the one that strikes me immediately is to do a darker than normal blue, or two tone blue, with a darker one underlaid on the shoulder beneath the shoulderpad, and a lighter one as the detail work on other portions of the model.
I kinda like that one. Thanks for bringing up the shoulders! You'll know what I mean once you see the libby. CAN'T WAIT FOR MY CAMERA!!!
So I feel now is as good a time as any for a recap. So here goes:

Well, this weekend didn't pan out as planned. But it did turn out really well. While I did not get any painting done, in preparation for hitting up the FLGS on Sudany, I spent Saturday evening into the wee hours of the morn completing several models and cleaning up some mistakes.
Because of it, I got my third rhino assembled, fancied up and primed. Also started to clean Crowe and Draigo, though just minimal progress there. The biggest benefit from this weekend was Sunday when I met up with Skipphag da Devoura at the FLGS. He was stoppin through and though we didn't get enough time to play a game, we talked shop for a couple hours and had a grand time.
He gave me the heads up on the sweet Large cases you'll see below. BUY THEM!!! Nough said haha.
Also, here are some pics of his Megadreads and deffdreads, though i'm not sure if those are the correct names for the units or if they're all just one model type.... I don't know orks well yet haha.
This weekend made me remember why I love playing 40k. It's not the game, it's not the models, it's not the painting. It all plays a role, but it's really just one thing: I love the people.
No other game have I had so much fun just talkin shop and tradin stories with other gamers. It's people like Skipphag da Devoura that make me love playing the game, and make me want to push myself to become an even bigger challenge.
So expect new updates for Titan's Legion coming soon. I'M BACK BABY!
Because I've been waiting to put up some more painted work, ENJOY!
For Clarification, they're not QUITE done yes, as made apparent from their missing heads and unpainted weapons. Thinking I MAY be able to set aside an hour or two tomorrow night and finish the boys up.
Just got two sets of TLAC's assembled and magnetized, addons to follow. Here are some pics for reference. I tried them on the Ven Dread, but just didn't like how they looked. I'll play it as a standard dread with TLAC's when necessary, but for the most part I don't feel they compliment my Ven Dread aesthetic. Hope you like the result!
Please comment!
Also, here's the run down. Have a game Sunday, anywhere from 1500 to 2000 pts. SO, I have a LOT of work to do this week.
On the list...
1) Finalize Army List(s) - 1500, 2000, and 2500 pts if I have enough units assembled for it.
2) Assemble Dread 3 (and 3rd set of TLAC's)
3) Get next 5 termies assembled
4) Get 2nd Landraider Assembled (If I can't get it done, I have a SWLR I can run as backup if necessary)
5) Get 2nd Stormraven assembled (Again, if I have the time)
6) Finish painting Kael and unamed GK entirely, including NFW as well as Janua's NFW - These are the top priority because I'd like to have some fully completed units. Any suggestions on how to do the NFW's would be GREAT! I've been looking around, but nothing jumps out at me.
So yeah, HUGE list of stuff to get done, especially considering the limited time frame. Hope to have a LOT to show for it though, and hope that Sunday will be an epic game day.
Dread 3 is assembled, and right now I'm a bit too lazy to post pics haha.
Plan is to get some more bits from a bud this Sunday so that I can get it tricked out and primed. Not much else going on. Decided against assembling a new LR, and instead will be re purposing the SWLRC with the GKFW bits.
That's bout it for now! sorry for the lack of updates, overtime's a
Well, had a good day. Didn't get a game in. I know, I know.....
But I did get Dread #3 assembled, primed, and and based along with his TLAC. Got Dread #1's TLAC's addons on and primed. Dread #2's are a bit more difficult, so more on that later.
Also bought another box of PAGK's, so getting close to having my OSR List ready.
Picked up 2 new Walmart Pistol Cases - 1 for Storm Raven #2, 1 for Iron Mongers.
BTW, check out the Iron Mongers blog tomorrow if you want to see pics of an assembled Land Raider Achilles!
Pics will be up tomorrow because I'm not feelin too hot right now.
No pics of Dread 2 as the TLAC's for him are still unmodified. Have to have the addons to make it worth anything haha!
And, on a personal note, I know a lot of people rag on the Aegis Defense Line's Quad cannon whatever when people use it to make TLAC's. I respect your opinions my wargammer breathren, but my personal opinion is that the standard FW options are just too weak looking for my taste. Even those that take the Lascannon arm/Missile Launcher arm and mod the Aegis defense cannon's and ammo onto them, just still don't look right to me.
I like the quad cannons. They are big, well designed, easy to mod onto the dreads, and just look like they are a platform weapon. I can actually see dread's using these, striding across the battlefield and mowing down all manner of opposition and terrain. FW and other options (THAT I HAVE SEEN THUS FAR) just pale in comparison IMO.
Lemme know what you think! They were quick addons, but meh, wanted them to be simple. Dread #2's will be very nice and very detailed haha.
Well, FINALLY got something to show on here. Didn't realize how much I missed the Knights.
So, got the Libby and Inquistor Lord Luscius Forgran basecoated. Used the same method as on my Iron Mongers to achieve a unique look and feel to the armor. I feel it turned out great, and with a little TLC with the details, they will each standout well in the army.
Asylum_Inmate wrote:That green was a really good choice for the inquisitor
Thanks, I was skeptical at first, but I think it turned out well. NOW the only issue is trying to decide whether to use plain metallic color for the detailing (boltgun, chainmail, mythril silver) or whether to use gold.
I've been debating both, but nor really having much luck. I know the deathwatch shoulder will get a second coat of boltgun and a wash or two of black to get it the right shade, but the dread pad shoulder is perplexing. Part of me wants to paint it metallic in the middle, and edge it with gold. But another part wants to leave it that 'jade' color, and edge it with either gold or metal.
Lol and another trouble is deciding the color for the hood and the robe skirt. I think white would be a good standby, but a bit to bland for an inquisitor. A khakki or brown would compliment the green well, but it would have to be just right to also go with the metal or gold trim.
Red doesn't do it for me, and would look too christmasy to me. Black is out too, as it's just blah.
Really, at this point suggestions are needed horribly bad haha.
Hey bud, really enjoyed catching up with this. I know exactly what you mean about how good it feels to actually play, and you raise a couple of interesting points - I'd totally forgotten about Psyfleman's doing instakill, for example. Good batreps, and love where the models are going, off to add some dread plates to my =][= now!

Glad to have you back haha. Things are (hopefully) going to continue on this path of productivity, both with the legion and the mongers.
Attempting a trade to get another 10 GK's and a Vindicare. Currently still needing assembled are....
10 x PAGK's
5 x GK Termies
1 x Dreadknight
1 x Rhino/Razorback
1 x Storm Raven
1 x LRCR
Not sure when it will be, but plan is to get the rest of the initial squad painted (though that's been proving a challenge - gotta love life) and then reward myself with a few termies. Then wash, rinse, repeat to get through the rest of the force.
Trying to create a fun, playable list though right now seems to be the biggest problem. I have a competitive list, but I'm wanting to make something that is more fluff oriented, just running the stuff that makes GK's fun to play.
Idea so far is to have:
Grand Master Modrak & his Ghost Knights
Librarian
Termies
Purifiers/Interceptors
1-2 x Dreadknights
Also have another list that is almost complete that focuses on ORS running:
Karmazarov
2 x Techmarines w/ OSR
2 x Interceptors
2 x SS 3 x Psyfleman Dreads
Both are pretty heavy in the WIP area, but I really want to run a list that uses all my stuff, or atleast has more variety than most of the competitive lists that I see have.

Have you though about blue? blue and green go well together, whilst i would agree that white and khaki would look good he might end up looking too much like a Dark Angel, which would mean he might lose some of that visual impact

Hadn't really thought about blue per se. I have trouble thinking of a blue that wouldn't overpower the green or get overpowered by it.... suggestions? Lol this is one of those times where some skills with photoshop would be a big benefit haha.
doowopapocalypse wrote:Thanks-I think your Knights look great.
Thanks bud! Always good to hear what people are thinkin.
And I think I need to get more productivity underway haha.... The next couple weeks will be rough, but after that things should be better. Should get work done finally.
Well, base coated atleast haha. YES, I mislead you with the title, but got you to look didn't it?
ANYWHO, what was supposed to be a night of trial and error with my nice new airbrush turned into a crazy massive painting session, during which basecoated EVERYTHING in the army that's been assembled thus far (minus the little odds and ends).
The entire process took about 5 hours (5 hours of screwing around, talking with my fellow battle brothers, and just having an all around easy go of it), but had I been focused and dedicated, would have taken maybe 2.
What was painted:
10 x GK 10 x GK Teminators
4 x Rhinos (1 w/ razorback setup)
2 x Dreadnoughts w/ 2xTLAC
This would have taken a HUGE amount of my time in any other situation, but damn if I'm not sold on the airbrush now!!!
Nothing left to do now but the detail work and more assembly of units. Dreadknight anyone?
On to a serious note though, the airbrush was a LOT less complicated than I made it at first. These are the tidbits I'd pass on to anyone who's considering getting one.
1) DO IT!!! WELL WORTH IT. Makes the entire process of painting an army so much easier. Gives a good, clean, even coat after a little bit of practice.
2) Thinning paints is easy (I used GW so please understand by easy I mean EASY by comparison to what I thought would be required), just make sure to take your time with it and test each batch before you put it on a model. Make sure it flows unobscured from the tip.
3) Use good paint. I started testing on my friends orks with an unused snot green pot, but it was old and ended up carrying with the paint some dried fleck which ended up clogging the airbrush. Not fun to clean. Not difficult, but definitively an inconvenience.
4) Don't be afraid if you mess something up. One of my rhino's dried with a weird blotchy side on it, like the paint had pooled and dried unevenly. After it dried, I hit it with another even coat and it eliminated the problem. Looks good as the rest now!!
5) Just have fun. It was a BLAST airbrushing my units. Don't know what I did without one, and hope to never find out again haha. Don't try to go too fast, just take it slow. Also, I like being close, so I opened up the bleed valve to lower the constant pressure when the airbrush was running to about 17 psi. Worked GREAT for the consistency that I got.
And as usual please let me know what you think!!!
PS: The pics and painting were done in a basement, in the corner of the room with almost no light, but was most out of the way. So please forgive the ton of pics of the same stuff. Just trying to get a good set to give an idea of what they look like. Really got that 'brushed' metal look. **more like AIRbrushed metal**
RandomSauce19 wrote:Those bases are EPIC! I'd love to make some like them The only real fault I can say is to clean up the white a bit on your Inquisitor.
Yeah, the inquisitor does need some more lovin. But since he was the first model painted JUST for the GK army, probably not going to change him up. At least not until the rest of the Army is finished haha.
But things are looking up, so who knows! could happen sooner than you'd think.
Nightfall wrote:These are great! what air brushes model was that and could i possibly pick one up
It's a Badger. The specific model and compressor Information is up a few posts. Sorry, just trying to stay away from repeating information. Also, GLAD you like them!
Well, after some further evaluation, I have found a couple models that need to be hit a little more with the airbrush. Nothing big, but still needs to be done.
Beyond that.... this week I have almost finished clipping out my PAGK's, and also fully clipped out my last rhino and Storm Raven.
Plan for the rest of the week is as follows...
1) Finish cleaning and assembly of last rhino. 2) Clean and start assembly of the Storm Raven 3) Get some patterns cut out of tape and get them painted onto the rhinos
Quick update - Rhino/Razorback is ready for priming/airbrushing. Storm Raven is 80% assembled, and just waiting the magnetization of doors and weapon systems.
Plan at this point:
Running low on magnets, so ordering more in order to finish up Storm Raven the successively the Dreadknight.
This Friday I'll probably stray away from work on the Rhino's as originally planned, and instead work towards getting the PAGK's in better shape.
So, last night was much more productive than originally planned.
Was able to accomplish:
2 x Razorback Turrets - assembled & primed
1 x Techmarine - assembled & primed
1 x Vindicare - assembled & primed
NOW, here is the battle report.
GK's vs Scars - 750 pts.
Scar's List:
3 x speeders (1 held in reserve)
2 x Bike squads (combat squaded into 3 total squads)
1 x Biker Captain
don't remember what they were spec'd with
GK List:
HQ: Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor - PA, Hellrifle, Power Fist
HQ: Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor - PA, Hellrifle, Power Fist
Troop: 5 x GKSS - 1 x Halberd, 1 x Psycannon - Razorback 1 w/ psybolt
Troop: 5 x GKSS - 1 x Psycannon - Razorback 2 w/ psybolt
Heavy: 5 x Purgation - 4 x Incinerator - Razorback 3 w/ psybolt
Heavy: 5 x Purgation - 4 x Incinerator - Razorback 4 w/ psybolt
Game type was annihilation, deployment in quarters, and I won the roll off. I opted to deploy first, both of us put everything on the field.
This was when the game got lame.
Turn 1: Razorbacks 1 & 3 KO'd Landspeeder squadron (2 landspeeders). Razorbacks 2 & 4 KO'd Bike squadron (2 x Bikers, 1 x Attack bike)
He wasn't able to do anything but speed towards me to get his 3+ cover save on his bikes. His captain went to flank
Turn 2: Razorbacks KO'd both his bike squads - deployed 1 Purgation squad, landed 8 incinerator hits.
His Captain was only thing left on field.
Between Turn's 3 & 5, his captain only lost 2 wounds.
From here on out, the game was lame. On turn 4 he landed his speeder from reserve, but I blew it up with a Razorback before he could use it. His captain got into assault with my purgation squad in bottom of turn 4.
Turn 5: Moved razorbacks into position to kill. Essentially had him surrounded. Purgation squad exchanged blows on mine and his turn, but did nothing. On his turn, he KO'd one knight. Opted to fall back towards table edge (was approx 8 inches away). Got out of melee, then auto regrouped next turn.
Turn 6: Moved Razorbacks into attack position. Unloaded 1 razorback, and the Purgation squad - purgation squad got the kill.
The purpose of this game was for both of us to try to run a different kind of army list than we had run before.
However, the results of turn 1 and 2 made the game very boring. What I learned from this game...
1) Bikes are not that tough if you have S6 weapons.
2) Razorbacks w/ psybolt are boring and ridiculously good. I don't EVER want to run a razorspam agian.
3) Purgation squads.... still don't know how good they are. Never really got to use how I originally intended.
4) My Inquisitors did manage to take out a couple models, even deal one of those wounds to the captain I think.... so yeah, Hellrifle was not too shabby. They were set from the start on the 2nd floor of a building in the middle of my deployment zone, so they had range on everything from turn 2 on.
I don't personally count this game as a win. It was not fun to me, it was just lame. My friend was a good sport, but he was highly disappointed with how the game came out.
So yeah, I don't know what to say other than it was the perfect example of how the game changes with the luck of the roll. Lost 4 squads in 2 turns, but had his captain survive 4 turns by his lonesome.
I swear to never take more than 2 razorbacks from now on. Cause that $#!+ is lame as hell.
Will put pics up here in a bit. For some reason my card isn't wanting to open.
@ Graven - Thanks bud. Not really sure what all is necessary in a good batrep, and I didn't want to be too specific or too general. Did take some video, but the camera dies round turn 4 or 5.
As player decimated by the Razorspam, I will admit it is extremely effective. The problem I have with it is that it is just no fun personally. Sure winning is fun but theres little risk. who wants to sit in vehicles day especially with those fun CC rules knights have.
I must say our 3 team battle later that night was much more fun over all
@ dmthomas7 - Yeah, I want to try to get in on one of those, but I can't make it this weekend.
I don't know though, I'm positive that it would be possible to run some form of spam in higher point battles, because it would give the opponent more points to prep for it.
Lol, and THAT was the big thing, we were both prepping to fight each other with something new, but were not prepared for what we faced haha.
I can agree with you on the running completely new stuff. Myself never running an entire mounted army made things interesting. Definitely need to work on running my bikes in a new way. though realizing that dangerous terrain isn't the huge threat that I thought it was would have changed the outcome at the least some. Regardless though, those S7 psy-cannons are just vicious even with the 3+ cover from turbo boosting. new thought though I could run all troops as bikes and then use my heavy weapons from my tac squads to field devastators in either a drop pod or a rhino to possibly help popping open the rhazors to get at the fleshy bits inside
After an unnecessarily long sabbatical of updating, I am happy to report that the Painting bug is BACK!!!
So, here are pictures of my newest almost finished model (yes, I still have yet to FINISH one, but it's very close!!!)...
Justicar Dominick in Terminator Armor.
I'm REALLY happy with how he's turned out. And since all the tough stuff is done, all I need to do is paint a couple pieces and he's FINISHED!!!! Then, I plan to man up and just paint Janua's Force Halberd and so that I'll have 2 completed models.
Also on the gaming front, I have continued to grow the sport here and can happily report two new Blood Angels players have joined our fray! (not excited about the BA part, but to each their own) Also found another resident on my floor who used to play and is bringing up his Eldar and Imperial Guard forces next time he goes back home.
Brings my total recruiting of members since last year to:
1 x IG player
1 x White Scars Player
2 x BA player
then the rejuvination of an eldar/ig player. At this rate my dream of opening a hobby shop in town does not seem so unrealistic haha.
So yeah, good to be back and expect much, much more.... if tests/team projects don't kill me first...
shingouki wrote:Looking pretty good to me although the cloth could do with a bit of highlighting imo.
Thanks! And highlighting is one of those things I'm not well versed at as of yet. It's going to have white lettering and a border around the inner edge before it's complete, possibly an =][= as well, but it will not look plain like it is now.
Well, things are slowing down again, giving me some more time to work on the army. Here's my struggle: What to do next?
Painting is always my priority, because it goes SO SLOW. But I just don't know what to do when I don't have time to paint. I have work here in a few minutes, which is a perfect example. I can't paint, but I could easily work on stuff. Just deciding what to do is the struggle.
Any suggestions?
To Recap:
20 x GK's to paint
9 x Termies to paint
20 x GK's to assemble
10 x Termies to asemble
2 x Dreadknights to assemble (other one is waiting for base)
dakkagrot187 wrote:This army is made of win ,any pics of rhinos please
As of yet, no new updates with the Rhinos. Struggling to get tape patterns cut out for airbrushing. Any suggestions?
HOWEVER, did get in my bases for the Dreadknights and Stormraven's. Gonna attempt to get a mockup of the DK pose finished at work.
Also have decided to start work on Mordrak's Ghost Knights. They're using 3rd party bits for legs. Makes them look much larger than standard Termies, but I think it makes them stand out better.
Now i see that the piston arms on the "baby carrier" are magnatized, are they aposable enough to emulate dynamic poses, if so can we see some pictures. Otherwise I am overall greatly likening this blog.
Knightley wrote:Mordrak is boss! totally awesome man.
Glad you like him! I'm just worried he's missing something or that he's already got too much going on with him.
Mordrak model looks amazing....but I'm not a fan of the helm. I've never been a fan of bare-headed SM...but something just seems off about it.
Either way, it looks sweet, I especially like the Cherub idea. Great work on all 6 models mate!
Thanks for the feedback. I agree, something doesn't seem quite right about the head. I completely agree with you about the ridiculous logic behind not wearing a helmet in battle.
But truthfully it was the best way I could think of to set him apart as a truly special character. The plan is to paint the sash the same color with the hood to try to tie the whole model together a little bit better. But I'm still looking for any other options that may present themselves to make him look more BA. Also glad you like the whole pack of them haha, they really turned out better than I had hoped. And as far as the cherub, I'm going to try to get the mockup of it done this weekend if at all possible.
medabee wrote:Now i see that the piston arms on the "baby carrier" are magnatized, are they aposable enough to emulate dynamic poses, if so can we see some pictures. Otherwise I am overall greatly likening this blog.
Well, the pistons are poseable, and if you trim the little bit of plastic guide meant to limit their movement in the socket, they really are able to look just about any way you want. I can spin them a full 360 in the sockets. The arms, in this case, are stuck in the default pose so I cannot show you any more dynamic poses. My other two Dreadknight's will have dynamic poses, so I'll be sure to put pictures up as I get a chance to work on them. And glad you like the blog! I'm trying to keep things moving and include the community on Dakka because criticism makes for improvement.
Once again hitting the table, the Legion squared off today for it's first bout against the forces of chaos!!!
THE LISTS - (AS BEST I CAN REMEMBER THEM)
Chaos Marines: 1505 pts

1 x Defiler (Reaper Autocannon, Flamer thing)
10 x Black Legion Squad (Don't know what they had, but were in a Rhino w/ Daemonic Posession & Havoc Launcher)

2 x Obliterators
5-6 x Plaguemarines
1 x Daemonprince
Grey Knights:
6 x GK's (1 x Psycannon, 1x Daemonhammer - Razorback w/ TLAC & Psybolt, Hunter Killer Missile)
6 x GK's (1 x Psycannon, 1x Daemonhammer - Razorback w/ TLAC & Psybolt, Hunter Killer Missile)
6 x GK's (1 x Psycannon, 1x Daemonhammer - Razorback w/ TLAC & Psybolt, Hunter Killer Missile)
1 x Librarian (Shrouding, Sanctuary, Smite, Might of Titan)
2 x Techmarines (2 x OSR, 2 x Storm Bolter)
2 x Psyfleman Dreads
1 x Vindicare Assassin
GAME TYPE: Annihilation - Pitched Battle Deployment
The Plan:
My idea was to try something new with this run of the list, so I chose to run OSR's for the big guns. Didn't find out until after the game started that I had ZERO knowledge of how they worked, and all my previous assumptions were straight up wrong. ALMOST GAVE UP RIGHT THERE. Glad I did not haha. Rest of the list was built for Maximizing RANGE & NUMBER OF SHOTS. I'd never played chaos before, and I was a bit terrified when he dropped a Defiler and a Daemon Prince on me.
I rolled off and lucked out to go first. I chose to deploy so as to get some shots off with my Hunter Killers first to try to get some real damage done before he could react. To say the first turn went well, is an understatement.
TURN 1: Ended with me Exploding Rhino 1 with the Black Legion dudes in it, Killing off both Obliterators, and Taking out his Defiler as well - This was all thanks to my Two Dreads, a couple hunter killers, and my Vindicare's Turbo Penetration shot.
From then on out, the game was fairly uneventful. Took some time for him to get closer to my units, and was turn 3 before he started taking out some of my guys. Was a REALLY GOOD GAME, but it was just pretty standard. Neither of us made any real fatal mistakes that I saw, and we ended up calling it at the bottom of Turn 4 because I'd taken out his other rhino, his Termi Lord's squad, and had his other termies retreating for their table edge. Also whittled his other squads down some.
All in all, it was a worthy battle and I'm pleased at the result - the result being that I now know I need to read the rules of my Codex MUCH BETTER. It's embarrassing to talk of throwing in the towel before the game starts just because you find out your OSR's can't direct hit lol. I'll admit, I made an @$$ of myself, and for that I apologize to my friend.
Also got Mordrak's Cherub attached and finished, so look for pics of that soon. Decided this week to put more emphasis on the Mongers, so keep an eye on that blog. That's about it for now.
Made a push this past weekend, and was able to accomplish the following:
Base coated...
1 x Librarian (didn't like how it was going, so tried again)
1 x Rhino (3 x Razorback turrets too)
6 x PAGK's (that needed touched up)
1 x Dreadknight
Plucked 2 x 2'' foam trays for my Battlefoam case - All Knights now fit in one case.
Assembled...
12 x PAGK's
At this point, this is what I have left to assembled:
2 x Dreadknights
8 x PAGK's
4 x Termies (May make 2 ghost knights, 2 paladins, or some combo there of)
1 x Libby (got a new stormbolter from GW)
1 x Techmarine
1 x Stormraven
1 x Kaldor
1 x Castellan
Two weeks from now is Fall break, and the plan right now is to get the paint on the models. This is what I'm projecting for the next 2 weeks:
Week 1:
Assemble 8 x GK's - Prime/Basecoat 20 GK's - Start washing of all models
Week 2:
Finish Washing of all models - Start Pushing through the gold trim on all normal Units (1 Termie for every 5 PAGK's)
Thanksgiving break:
Goal is to have atleast 2 fully painted GK squads. Going to work on painting special characters (Mordrak, Inquisitor, Vindicare, Techmarine, Librarian) When I start to get bored/tired of painting so that I keep myself fresh.
Sorry for no pictures, but once the last few knights are basecoated I'll throw up an entire army pic to see how far we've come.
Just finished up the PAGK's! Primed and pinned to bases, just waiting a liberal airbrushing of boltgun metal, then I'll be on to a unilateral paint push.
So I lied, decided to put up some WIP shots just to get back into good habits haha.
Got these three Paladins gold trim on today, tomorrow hopefully will finish them up. Have 5 more basecoated/ OSL highlighted, just waiting for the trim treatment haha.
Three day turnaround from basecoated to finished would be a very helpful trend to keep up haha.
Without further adieu, here they are! AAAND my almost finished paladin "Corbett"!
@ Knightley - They are magnetized in the weapons hand, or in the case of psycannons their wrists are magnetized.
I have this tendency to over magnetize, so I tried to make sure that I did these guys in the most logical and cost-effective manner haha.
No progress made today, too the day off as I just wasn't feeling it haha.
DID go pick up some more paint however, so that's a plus. Plannin on hitting the minor details tomorrow, and possibly trying out gradients of the forceweapons.
Well, takin a break from the Paladins tonight, put together this conversion for a Death Cult Assassin.
Parts used were:
1 x DE Scourge Torso (scourge i think is the right one)
1 x Eldar Legs
2 x DE Arms (not sure on the sword)
2 x Forgeworld Bolter Bayonets
1 x GK Daemon Head bit
2 x SM Combat Blades.
@ inmygravenimage - Glad you like it! The idea was originally to make an ordo xenos inquisitor, but it morphed into an attractive, affordable method to make a bunch of DCA's.
I plan on ordering enough bits to make a total of 20. That should keep me busy for a bit, but that will happen after the paladins are done!
It's a very cool idea, and seeing your parts list helps enormously. I'm with you on the having a vast horde of them: it's the way forward (especially via Chimera).
@ inmygravenimage - Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of via Land Raider Redeemer, with the assistance of a Xenos Inquisitor w/ Combi-melta, forceweapon, might of titan, rad & psychotrope grenades haha. Multimelta on top the raider and you got yourself a solid whirling death machine of righteous fire and cleansing lol
Yeah that's pretty darn tasty wife got me one for Xmas there so I'll be firing up that bad boy soon enough. Incidentally, fairly sure I have a spare set of fwgklr (acronym alert!) doors if you're interested.
Warhammer 40k is my hobby. It is my passion. It has pushed out all my other hobbies: computers, gaming, reading. It's what I love to do. And finally, I had to ask myself why.
Don't get me wrong. I am still passionate about all the things that are important to me, but 40k does something that few other things can.
Once a week, me and anywhere from 3-9 or 10 guys get together. We play, assemble, paint (need to do more of this haha), talk shop, talk trash, and just enjoy ourselves. It's what my week is all about.
I love my friends, love the camaraderie, but most of all I love that I can share something with others that I put a piece of myself into, and see how much of themselves they too have put into it.
Right now is a rough time for me. Between excessive course-loads, the eternal search for Mrs. Right, and the responsibilities of my job, it seems like I'm rarely in the mood to game/paint/do anything productive.
And for those of you keeping up on my progress... you know what kind of progress has been made: practically none. Just off the top of my head, I believe I have a total of 3, count them
THREE
completely finished models. An inquisitor, a Terminator, and a Land Raider Redeemer.
I have over 100 models (not including vehicles mind you) left to paint, assemble, base, an infinitely more combinations of the three. It's daunting. But that's JUST for my knights.
Some times are better than others, and the fact is that nothing seems to motivate me right now. Hell, I just got all the parts in to build my 20 Death Cult Assassins, and I haven't even gotten halfway through with the painting on my Paladins. I know I'm really just ranting, blowing off steam, and that's what I need right now. But what about in the future? How am I going to deal with this in the coming weeks, months, even years?
So here's the plan. This is what I'm going to do, and this is how I'm going to do it. No ifs, ands, or buts. And here is my plea to you, my fellow gamers, my fellow hobby lovers:
KEEP ME HONEST.
The Goal: I want to get this army done this year. This is my new years resolution: TITAN'S LEGION WILL BE COMPLETED BY Dec 31, 2012
The Plan -To break the work down into manageable, diverse portions models. - To refrain from spending ANY MONEY on models, bits, etc. unless ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. - To play a BARE MINIMUM of 4 games PER MONTH, at any point level. - To take and upload pictures of all activity related to the hobby. - To make a weekly update post combining all important changes in the past 7 days. - To spend at least 1 hour a day working on 40k (lists, painting, scraping, etc.)
and most importantly of all...
- To not get bogged down in the details, and to just have fun and continue making the game fun for others.
I love DakkaDakka. You guys have helped me strive to improve my abilities and have served as an unparalleled wellspring of knowledge and inspiration. So I thank you.
Here's to the hobby. I hope you all raise a glass and toast to the good times, the bad times, and all the times this hobby has made you happy.
UPDATE - Got 5 paladins I've been working on almost done. Just missing shoulder crests, back dealies and power weapons (couple psycannons are almost done).
Got more Dragonforge Bases in today. And my mold making kit came in too, so here's to trying something crazy.
Going to get these Paladin's done, then possibly do Draigo or a Librarian to change things up a bit, then 6 more Paladins.
Nice progress. Liking the blue tones on the metal mate. My update shall be going up tomorrow (so much WIP - Hydra, Carnosaur, 21 Skinks, 2 Skink Priests, Oldblood for Carnosaur and on foot, 5 SoBs and 2 Kroxigor. LOL.)
Landraider assembled
2nd Death Cult Assassin assembled
Played a broken alliance game and helped facilitate an annihilation game between two new players. Won my game, beating Daemons and Space Wolves. Then Daemons won a much deserved victory against Wolves in game two.
Let me know what you think of the 2nd assassin. I hope to keep pumpin them out shortly.
I love, but the height on the head looks slightly... off. Maybe run a couple of cables from under the jaw either side, to the back, perhaps? Cool pose though.
@ inmygravenimage - yeah, the head does look a tad off, but it's not too terrible in person. I'm going to wait till it's primed to see how it looks with all the black before I make any hasty decisions. After all, there are going to be 20 of the buggers on the board haha.
Oh, what do you think of the weapons? Wasn't sure how the combat blade turned out.
UPDATE - Got another game in. Biggest one to date, 2550 pts against White Scars.
List was as follows:
1 x Xenos Inquisitor - PA, PW, Rad, Psycotroke, 3 x Servo Skulls 1 x Librarian - Smite, Shrouding, Sanctuary
10 man SS - 2 x Psycannon, Razorback w/ psybolt 10 man SS - 2 x Psycannon, Razorback w/ psybolt 5 man SS - 1 x Psycannon, Razorback w/ psybolt/ Extra Armor 5 man SS - 1 x Psycannon, Razorback w/ psybolt/ Extra Armor 10 x Terminator Squad - 2 x Hammers, 8 x Halberds 5 x Terminator Squad - 1 x Hammer, 4 x Halberds 2 x Techmarine - Blind Grenades, Conversion Beamer, 3 x Servo Skulls each (6 total) 10 man Purgation Squad - 4 x Incinerators, Razorback w/ Psybolt 2 x Psyfleman Dreads
Was a good game, but things didn't pan out as planned for either side. I only deployed a 5 man SS, 2 x Razorbacks, Dread, and 2 x Combat Squaded Purgation Squads w/ an attached Techmarine. They survived pretty well, and the blast from the conversion beamers allowed for some massive firepower. Also covered my entire table half with servo skulls so no infiltration, which was nice since the opponent had 2 squads of scouts.
Not much else to say. Terminators are brutal w/ I 6, beamers that can ignore the cover save are ridiculous, and all in all it was a fun game. Still learnin my rules, and getting back into the swing of things, but enjoying the burst of inspiration to play and work.
UPDATE - Had a jam-packed weekend with little time. Was able to finish another Death Cult Assassin, but that's about it for now. Pictures will probably be up next weekend unless things get remarkably slower haha.
