My friends and I had gotten together for a Mutants and Masterminds game, but John was late, so we started watching My Little Pony as a joke. The laughter soon stopped as we were drawn into the well-crafted story and the deep characters. You need to watch this, I don't care what you'll have to endure socially, just do it. It will be the best thing you've ever done in your life.
To Help support this due to the fact that Mordo fails at explaining why it's awesome. The first episode deals with the 6 pony postergirls(?) having to find the 6 elements of the land in order to bring light back to it. So they go on an epic adventure to find these elements. In this adventure they 'battle' a manticore, along with several other situations. The shows isn't amazingly stupid, and the humor isn't horrible either; essentially if i were to change the names around, it would be an Epic D&D campaign. Yes MLP is for girls, but the new show is amazing, and strangely enough the demographics for the show actually say that men from 18-35 watch the show more than girls 7-17. I would suggest watching it, but make sure that you are either with a bunch of friends, or completely alone.

It's a D&D playoff dealing with Superheroes and gadget heroes. It's amazingly fun
Everything is partying sleep overs and make overs. However while such stuff has its place in a cartton aimed at girls, the new license holder Lauren Faust wanted to change things and got permission from Hasbro to revamp the cartoon and put her own mark on it.
It worked. My Little ponty : Friendship Is magic is some of the best stuff to hit the TV in recent years, or in this case, hit YouTube. Hasbro wisely didnt interfere when YouTube epsisodes appeared and they quickly atracted a second target audience. Men aged 20-40.
This I believe is because ghe animation is fresh the characters likeable rather than the cliche cartoon females which are either very prim and pristine or young and innocent. The six main cast ponies are young adult characters, equivalent 18-21 year olds. The child ponies are clearly different. They are not annoying, have lost plump kiddie toy imagery for something more cross genre, and lost the annoying voice overs too. What you get instead are imaginative plots boosted by the fact that the ponies are distinctly feminine but accessible to male viewers in a non sexual way. Meaning the plot lines are feminine which is workable in its own way, and orginal as the vast majority of cartoons are from a masculine perspective.
If you hunt down an episode or two read the comments below. you will get a lot of comments along the lines of 'I am a 30+ man, wehy am I hooked on this show?.
I was introduced to my Little Pony via this thread on the Classic Battltech forums, not exactly a hangout of pre-teen females. I was encourtaged to watch some episodes. I will link a start here. I was initially reluctant but quickly converted, so much so I was planning to start a thread covering pretty much what I posted right here in the week sometime.
Stick with it for the payoff, this show is much better than it might first appear and deserves a chance. Even if you are likely not a 7-11 year old girl.
There is Muffin the Mule which is apparently is illegal in all states, but is known in certain hick backwaters. That is bad enough, but Sadomuffin the Pony is going WAAAY too far imho.
Everyone shut up. If you want to watch a truly epic kid's show (SHOW; the books have a much wider target audience), watch the Redwall TV series on youtube. That is the epic. And end of season 3 will make you cry I promise to all of you.
What in the name of sweet feth's sake are you maniacs talking about?
Some sort of in joke for those who have not watched it. Neither comment bears any relation to the show as I have seen it. Though there are a couple of actual races in it.

I want the minutes of my life wasted back. Thanks for nothing.
Well kudos to you for being secure in your masculinity enough to try it.
Believe me on this, initially I was reluctant because of what it was. Rise above prejudice, give it its fair chance. Frankly I dont think the pilot is enough because it focuses on a threat rather than the six characters. Those six ponies, to know them is to love them, except Rainbow Dash who I find annoying, though mileage can vary, she is a favourite of others.
When i gave it a chance I did what you guiys did, watched five minutes and said no thankyou. But thn I got curious. Its a girls show, its not much to look at at first glance yet numerous men are 'addicted' to it and were commenting as such on the youTube comments. I had to know why.
Puit it is this way. Take one of the episode plots, a pony is mamking a party dress for all six ponies, they dont like the dresses so she remakes them, afterwards they have a fashion show. Oh and this episode involves a lot of singing too. Sounds as dire as Vorgon poetry doesnt it. Sound like you want to chew your leg off. However what if I told you that somehow they made the subject matter entertaining, to men; the singing enheartening, to men; the storyline and pacing watchable, to men. Are not not even a little curious as to how this is pulled off? Frankly I think its a work of genius, and I am not exagerrating. It is nothing remotely like content I would seek out, and I dont really like cartoons at all, let alone girl cartoons. The only animation I like is very occassional Disney, emphasis on occassional, plus Akira and Ghost in the Shell. I sort of liked the Battletech cartoon because it was gaming related. Cartoons are not for me, I am over 40 for a start, yet My Little Pony is a weekly must watch with excellent rewatchability. Yes I am also inclined to buy the DVD on release and apart from Ghost in the Shell I have no animation DVD's in my collection.
Be curious enough to wonder why this surprise series crosses so many culture boundaries and does it well.
Twilight, Pinkie and Fluttershy for best pony, Rarity as runner up. Yes I chose four favourites, bite me.
This show is so good, I can't put it into words. My favorite part was the song. Solving conflicts with out resorting to violence, friendship, coupled with great writing and pacing, topped off with great art work= one of the best cartoons in a while. I know some people cant get past the show being feminine without having sex objects (Anime) Or girls bein strong withoug the tire old "we're strong because we can take advantage of men angle. All the Characters are likable. Hell even the annoying sidekick Spike is likable , and actually useful. Thanks for the great find.
'Frankly I think its a work of genius'
+1 to that. My fave is The red pony ( I call her singing pony 4000)
Half of my TF2 clan is fascinated with this show. I'll admit, I watched an episode or two, it reminds me alot of Foster's Home, since done by the same person, but not something I'd eagerly await every week to watch. Overall, nice to kill time and watch but I'd rather finish the Venture Bros or my backlog of anime.

So I went on an adventure. To Candy Mountain.
Agreed. I watched almost half of the first episode then...meh.
Really don't see what the big deal is. Yes, there was the beginnings of the plot, but that got tossed aside for making friends and other typical "kids stuff" plot hooks.
Then I watched Charlie the Unicorn and now all is right in the world.
What in the name of sweet feth's sake are you maniacs talking about?

Sodomuffin is from the webcomic "Shortpacked". She's one of the character's favorite ponies but can't convince anyone it's not a pony she made up until one of the other characters actually sees Sodomuffin in the background of the new show(which of course doesn't actually happen in the real world).
I'd show you a picture David Willis drew of her, but her Pony stamp is a penis bursting through a muffin and therefore NSFW.
This is what the Warhammer 40,000 Universe really needs!
You see, the Chaos Gods are fuelled by hatred, anger, egoistic and empathy-less behavior? As long as the Imperial War Machine fights with Wrath and Contempt against its enemies, Chaos will never be destroyed!
I'm actually at least half-serious here; if the fighting forces of the Imperium would emphasize on Camaraderie and other at least partially positive concepts for their war against chaos instead of ruling with fear and encouraging hatred, maybe it would actually weaken the Chaos gods!

Lol this thread fails so hard.
God I wish those DVDs were still in print. Was able to get Redwall & Mattimeo for 'reasonable' prices, but Martin The Warrior is always like $100+ -.-
I like how this thread is divided among 3 mods, pro-pony, anti-pony, pro-old pony and pro-redwall people.

Seriously Redwall TAS is fantastic.
They release a DVD every once in a while. I'm just lucky that my library has all of them.
It seems that for some people My Little Pony is the 'wolf shirt' of kids animation.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Which reminds me...
You'd HAVE to be hardcore to get a tattoo of a MLP.
Add Wolverine to the tattoo and you'll be able to bring pure awsome to nerds and 6yo girls everywhere.
from the 3 minutes is aw, the my little ponies plot isn't too different to 40k. The evil pony used the elements (read chaos gods) to get power. meh looks pretty cool

Why do you watch something "as a joke"? Trying to do it ironically are we?
I watched the first episode, while not bad It would be less embarrassing to be caught whacking off to midget tranny porn than t be caught watching this show.

You only need to be more secure in your masculinity. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is an easy show to defend, and if you can be serious enough in your commentary it becomes a quality recommendation that proves you can think outside of the herd.
I just watched My little pony as well and although I was sceptical at first, I soon found myself really enjoying it. The pony that was in charge of apples is absolutely awesome. However I felt sorry for spike getting continuously hurt by Twighlight Sparkles. (poor dragon thingy) And as the old saying goes "Don't judge a book by it's cover"

There is a pretty broad line between security in your masculinity and watching My Little Pony, and you guys are pole vaulting over it.
BUt Slaanesh isn't cute and cuddly...Slaanesh is kinda creepy if you aren't already following him/her, and if you try being cuddly with Slaanesh he/she rips your soul out and devours it.
I'd rather love to see a My Little Orkoid. Green Pony, tail like the modern Hair Squigs on Orks, mane like the old-school Orkish mohawks (in sufficiently strange colors, of course), Iron Gob, Dakkaguns instead of saddlebags, and an Orkoid glyph for a Cutie mark.
