Gretings:

I confess: Im a War Nerd, also a WH40k gamer since 3rd edition also a lurker of some time of dakka as also of warseer, so, i thouth proper to introduce myself with my works.

First of all, some background:

Later imperial campaings had been extensively documented, as feats of courage and will against the heretic, the mutant and the secessionist, and as such, we recomend to the reader the deep and rich studies made by Leonid Biota and the remembrarces of such campaigns.

But, shadowed by the sheer magnitud of the Sabbat campaings, the not so minor endevour of preserving order of his most divine magesty Imperium et Potestas in the Germanica System teaches us how planetary lewd ambitions can lead the to the vile act of cavortig whit the ruinos powers.

This, is a documented memory of the untis involved in the pacification of a sector named the Fulda Gap by the imperium in the germanica campaing.

In game terms; this is the buildig and the painting of my I.G. (army I had been playing since the appearence of the previos I.G. codex)

The plan is to make a "core" 2000 points army and 11!!! variations based on this "core" (the idea is to make varaiety and challenge -by playing a random list- as to model and convert)

Experience will tell how do the alternatives will shape.

Untill Then....

Automatically Appended Next Post:
As stated, The challenge, is to build a 2005 points I.G. as a “core army” and another 11 (!!!) variations of the above (circa 500 points) not just as a Modeling and painting challenge but, as a game enhancer (roll 2D6 and play that list)

Bitz used and providers would be stated in case per case basis.

Some answers

During my years playing 40k I allway felt a "mising element" playing guard: the gaunt Novels were good motivation and full on other really interesting regiments.

The guard Codicii were also inspiring but, besides cadians, and cadians and CADIANS resembling 80s era NATO troops I was unable to find a theme for me and then; this happenend to me...

That came from here Evil Inspiring People

And so I found the theme, the motive and the motivation to do an army that really fulfilled my thoughts, my feelings and my dreams....

The worst was just to begin: warseer (home forum) is Full of superb modelers and painters and I, still consider my skills as Lewd, so as a sensible and rational human being, I asked for help Sensible and Rational Help I provided them whit my ideas and we came to this:

I still have troops to convert and paint

Exactly 126 chaps plus the "newest" batch I found on a box on the closet (circa 60+) Im thinking in making a rifle company they would be: 3 squads (30) a commisar and their command squad, just Cadian and space marines and a "long rifle" somehing maybe resembling the SKS or the Mosint-Nagant.

For the other bodies, im planning to do veterans, VDV (air cavalry) and your suggestions ( a cavalry horde is being considered too!!! - I just found sigmarite units i did not know i had)

Also Gents: Does anybody knows a good source of supplies??? in order to achive great looking bases??? pouches, webbing??? -thanks in advance-

a motivational photo for all you I.G. players.

An armour Update. The first transport is done!!!

Bitz Used
Games Workshop Imperial Guard Chimera.
Old Crow Models 25mm accesories
Plasticard and lost of rivets.

Now, the fun starts; we need for our core force 4 more of these little babies; a second batch of 3 for a full mech core list and 6 for a mech-vet list so, as Obyekt-1 is done and under construction a BMP-3 conversion is considered for the vets.

Untill then.

Very nice work! brilliantly clean lines on the plastikard there. What do you use to cut the stuff?

Group of Imperial Forces Germanica, The Fulda Incident. @ 2011/04/19 16:38:17

Post by: ariobarzanes

Thanks Flinty; I did use an X-acto knife and some "medical grade" blades.

I tend to do some runs on the plasticard whit the blade and then proceed to snap the piece, so it comes prety neat.

Most interesting! Let me guess, the Chimera is at least a bit inspired by World War II German Entwicklung series tanks? It definitely reminds me of E-10 the way its armor is shaped.

@Marcin: Im inspired on MT-LBs

And now, an intro to the cammos used in this project:

As we can see, line infantry wears a drab uniform, special forces (inquisitorial stromtroopers) wear amoeba patter cammo usin the basic colors and the adition of charadon granite "points" as well as grey "zones" the I.G. Stormtroopers wear flora pattern (dots of bubonic brown added) wich is an upgrade of amoeba

Second update: we have bases!!!
well yes, they had bases, but, they were not painted.

bases are painted with wargames foundry 3 tone system colour sand first; a devland mud wash is aplied (1:1 mix) after dry, a light drybrush wiht bleached bone is aplied; the rim of the bases uses graveyard earth (calthan brown base, two coats of graveyard earth) finally; using a glue gun we add the grass.

Ah yes, now, when I see the shape of the bow clearly, I can obviously see the similarities. The original is pretty popular in Poland, enough to warrant a few interesting conversions, such as an automated mine laying vehicle and a gun/missile air defense system. And the Gvozdika would be pretty good as a Basilisk.

@ InquisitorRoeath: Welcome to my humble work and thanks for your support.

@ Flinty: In due time my friend, in due time im still unsatisffied with the sponsons besides I cant make my mind about what do I want as a turret.

@ Young Logan: Thanks for your support, its just practie, practice and practice.

@ Imperial Monkey: Yes sir!!! and thanks to the wargames foundry paint system for solving my isues with painting.

@ Perkustin: So you ask, so it shall be delivered:

So, with the afore-mentioned (spelling?) request satisffied, lets continued with our order of work.

First, the Autocannons of B Platoon; this are the firts attempts to reproduce Le Mediko great work; IMHO I did terribly FAILED creating a diferent gun shield; also, I think I need smaller Rivets.

Due to limitations on pictures, lets continue shall we...

The Chimmeras and the hellhounds had been primered so, pre shading of the units is in progress

First CCS Chimmera.

I had in hand some tamiya Olive Drab (XF-74) (a nicely dark one) so, I started the process.

Finally, a Group Photo.

Ah, yes, mere infantry- poor beggars...

Plavtvs

First of all, a group photo: not only to share whit you the progress, but also to recon the size of my guard. (I believed I was making a frail and small force)

Missing in the picture are: 4 Hydras (W.I.P.) and a MBT (W.I.P.)

From lower left to right:
--------------------

CCS 1 3 meltas and chimmera.
CCS 2 3 grenade launchers.
Platoon A command 3 flammers.
Platoon B command 3 grenade launchers and chimmera.

Second row from left to right:
--------------------

SWS platoon A 3 flammers.
Platoon A 2 squads grenade launchers, mortars.
Ratlings (10)
platoon B squad grenade luncher, autocanon W.I.P. chimmera.

Third row from left to right:
--------------------

2 Inquisitorial Storm trooper units (5) (codex witch hunters) 2 plasmas each.
Platoon A HWS lascanons.
Platoon A HWS mortars.
Platoon B squd grenade launcher, autocannon (W.I.P.) chimmera.

Fourth Row from left to right:
--------------------

10 Codex IG storm troopers 2 plasmas (non "core" unit).
Two hellhounds.
Platoon B squad grenade launcher, autocannon (W.I.P.) chimmera.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
CCS 2 3 grenade launchers, previously, 2 grenade launchers and a mortar.

The first CCS fullfill a Short AT role and thus it rides along the chimera wall of B platoon, on the other hand, CCS 2 is intended to provide HWS of A platoon (our defensive element) of orders as: Bring it dow and Fire on my mark

In a general train of thoughts they dont need to be even armed, maybe camocloacks or a chimmera suits the better but, to have some BS4 plastic dudes is too tempting, so a cheap and "general" weapon was added.

And so, we enter to A platoon the defensive core of our list

Elements:

Platoon comand squad
--------------------

Bitz Used:
Games Workshop Cadian legs.
Games Workshop Cadian Arms.
Pig Iron Kolony Militia heads.
Hassleefree Bokhin SMG
Hassleefree V.E.R.A guns (canister is a GW melta bomb) 8count as flammers)

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Following our infantry update, photos of Platoon A

Squads 1 and 2
--------------------

Their function is to: Sit on the objetive, screen the fire support elements and diffuse the presence of the snipers; considering the needs of this two units, plasma weapons on B4 units were recognised as fundamental in its survivability.

and so the =I= units were inducted (ministry of the interior elements if you ask me)

SWS
--------------------
flammers
this time the canister is a tau fussion gun canister.

paired with te PCS this six flammers duty is: crowd control and countercharge
function bolstered with the 3 grenade launchers of CCS 2

Automatically Appended Next Post:
As you have noticed, infantry is modeled in the guise of a soviet motor rifle division so, every 10 man unit must have.

A sargent.
2 soldiers with undersuld grenade launchers (WIP)
A marksman (decorative)
An RPG (heavy weapon)
2 machineguns (special weapon)

--------------------

Last elements of the A platoon

HWS Rapiras and mortars
--------------------

I think both elements are pretty elocuent by themselves but if a reasoning of their pressence is needed we can elaborate it.

Mortars are a personal cliche, some time ago I murdered a chaplain and his termie (6!!!) retinue with shrapnel, and since then i cant leave home without them.

As soon as all bases are painted and flocked I will post a final picture.
until then

Searching in my bitz box, I found enought sprues to make 2 Leman Russ MBT and 2 Leman russ bodies (picts or it never happened)

My idea is to make two MBTs Inspired in this monster and two gun plataforms maybe bombards, maybe something like Tinners or maybe some SU-203

So, I owe you: an infantry foot platoon (tomorrow update) to finish infantry and
then: 4 SPAAG, 4 MBTs, then a Vendetta and 4 C.A.S. units and then, this heavy guys.... and i thought this would be easy.

@Njal the weatherman: my most sincere apologies for not answering in your thoughts in these days

Mainly I use the wargames foundry painting system and their paints (great technique for mass painting) besides that, is just patience and practice.

So lets beging shall we...

Bitz used:

Games Workshop Space Marine ammo pouches.
Pig Iron Kolony militia heads.

My goal here is to create a light foot infantry unit, so a more "traditional" body armour was intended also, the lasgun was trimmed to seem longer in comparisong with our mech and frontal infantry.
Colours hece will be a simple drab and green helmet.

Political Officer and CCs Polpovnik (awaiting power weapon)

Provost and life guard to Tovarischs Polpovnik (care to spare some laspistols?? anyone??)

Your thoughts.

Painting, would solve any doubts.

Todays update:

After all this years of preparations, we needed to attack.
Antonid Sebastev Tamarkhan Motor Rifle Division M39.

It was during the final stages of his most inmortal magesty camping to reunite the stars, that the siderals system compromising the Koalition and the Northen Treaty were subject to imperial compliance.

By word of his most imperial magesty both power blocks were to expand up to "the reach of their fleets, and to where the shell fell..." this order from the emperor made a solar system named germanica a a buffer zone between two rising powers.

As a system, germanica has three hospitable planets circling a middle aged hydrogen star, to be know as Germanica Secundus, Germanica Tertius and Germanica Oppida.

To our interest in the subject, we must consdier this: Germanica Oppida was "ground zero" in the charts that defined the spheres of influence between the Koalition and the Northen Block, being her moons (Preussen, Preobashensky and Fulda) all habitable, (and profitable) matter of debate, border clashes and to the contempt of the parts subject to a tripartite administration (Administratum, Koalition and Northen Treaty) of semi autonomous administration.

Nationalisms, Rebelions, separatist movements and the influence of the ruinous powers was more that conprehensible in the moons that endured the ever lasting wrestling of power.

So it was that, for generations, Norhen Schools of war and Koalition academies believed that the only solution was to overrun the moons in name of peace, security and prosperity of the peoples.

I had been working on the Fulda =I= operative.

@ Ralin Givens: so do I!!!! the chimeras are based on the MT-LBs of soviet desing and the Hydras on the Tunguska SPAAG (thanks to Flinty for the Technical development)

@ Eeps: thanks sir!! welcome aboard...

Wall of text ahead:

It was the 15 of june when I heard of an incoming tournamet on my local gaming area; (18 of june) the rules stated that, no imperial armour, no proxies and olny 1750 points worth of plastic were to be fielded.

Unfortunately for us; our "Core" army and list is not yet finished (a discussion of what is the core is and the reasons to be can be found Here In our benefit, the event was set to 1750 so we were able to field this force:

C.C.S 3 meltas Chimera
turret Multilaser
Hull heavy flammer (thanks warseer!!!)

Infantry Platoon A
P.C.S 3 plasmas Chimera
Warseer pattern (again, solid advice)

3 I.S. Plasma Autocannon Chimmera
Warseer pattern ones

H.W.S 3 lascannons (intended to be pounded and luckily to kill something)

H.W.S 3 mortars (a superb scoring unit)

S.W.S 3 flammers (an affordable and often unseen counter attack unit)

Infantry Platoon B
P.C.S. 3 flammers

I.S. Commisar P.W.
2 I.S. sargent with P.W.

(a 30 man blob plus some flamers, I read some good reviews in this site about the virtues of the afore mentioned unit so we give it a try)

Devildog, hull multimelta

Devildog, hull multimelta

Lended L.R.B.T heavy bolter sponsons

Lended L.R.B.T heavy bolter sponsons

So, with a few new units (platoon B) and ideas (hull flammers) we marched to a tournament with these rules: 16 player would be accepted, every player would have 4 games and every game would have a primary, a secondary and a tertiary objective. the winner would be the player with most points.

My games were as follows

Scenario 1 "Golan heights" main objective: to have an scoring unit in the main hill (center of the board, no cover around !!!) secondary D6 markers; tertiary destroy the adversaries HQ

Adversary: Space Wolves player.

I won this game by the will and grace of psychology; my opponet just felt overwhelmed by the amount of amour present on the table; even he had a competent army to face mine (3 vindicators, 3 rifleman dreads, 3 typhoon launcher land speeders 3/4 rhino troops and a lord on rhino) I manged to fulfill the 3 objectives.

Scenario 2 "Kursk" main objective: kill points, secondary objective table quarters, tertiary destroy the enemy HQ

Adversary: Full Mech I.G. player

When I saw the scarce amount of cover and the sheer amount of amour involved (2 demolishers, 2 lemman russ, two basilisks 4 veteran units in chimera -2 flammesrs and a melta each-) I did spected the worst (for me!!) fortunately fire discipline saved the day and a bad deployment decision by my adversary (he deployed his demolishers to far from my blob and a gap between the russes, and the demolishers allowed me to move. the day was won thanks to the hull flamers and the devil dogs. primary and tertiary objective were fulfilled.

Scenario 3 "The iron gates" main objective: enemies base, secondary more units on the adversaries deployment (table quarters) tertiary D6 markers

Adversary: Dread heavy Blood Angels player.

I confess: i did run, like a frightened and beheaded chicken from 6 dreads and a chaplain; fortunately running madly allowed me a "ciaphas cain move" and primary objective was achieved.

Scenario 4 "Night of the living goo" main objective: kill points (in a dawn of war deployment on a cities of death location) secondary table quarters tertiary destroy the enemy HQ

Adversary: Nid Player (and the dare to say they are not competitive)

It was hard since the beginning; it was harder after his deep strikes but it was all Grimmdark fun when the doom of malathai arrived escorted by a winged hive tyrant (who gallantly died in cc by bayonets) a marginal win.

In the end I earned the second place (the first was for a friend of mine who plays M.S.U. Dark eldar)

What I learned:

1.- Plasma is for veterans
2.- Vox casters are useful (the lack of the above showed me how much)
3.- Orders are fun but far from reliable
4.- speed is my amour
5.- Sponsosn are goon in immobile leman russes
6.- Mobility
7.- Mobility
8.- Hull heavy flamers for the win!!!
9.- Quantity is a Quality in itself
10.- Blob squads using F.R.F.S.R.F. Can kill a Doom of malanthai
11.- Take and Trust Advice AFTER play-testing IT.
12.- Nids not competive..... yeah right.

The Next images reprsents the "conceptual stage" of the Chimeras for the vets.

To my mind the rear mounted turret look smore like the prototype and better on the Chimera's. Your Heavy Mortars look brilliant. The Griffons are simply superb although you'll have to make sure people don't think they are Manticores before the game.

I started to play WH40k in the middle of third edition; in a Power Armor dominated enviroment; it was a setting where the army revolved around the HQ/ lord set-up, its performance and its ability to whipe out the gaming table, and there, coming from playing WHFB (the empire) I did choose imperial guard; one of the habits I did developed from that era was not to consider, not even suffer the dissmis of my HQ (let the marine dude save his beloved hero) It was just another tool in the army (and a great one, leadership bubble , weapon teams and sentinels...)

But in this days of the Warlord I have to lear to protec my own; not to use my own as bait, counter unit or legal gaming obligation.

whithout further ideas:

Company Command Squad SOKOL-00

Bitz used:

Pig Iron Kolony Militia Heads.
Max Mini custom Torsos.
Games Workshop Plasma Guns.
Games Workshop Cadian legs and arms.
Games Workshop space Marine ammo pouches.

Greetings gentlemen, before sharing my questions with you, I tried the traditional aproach of asking forge world some rules questions...

ant the result was this:

On 19 September 2012 06:32, Leon Felipe Banegas <entemaligno@gmail.com> wrote:
Greetings:

First of all; thank you for your great rules and your great great models.

Second, a few questions:

1.- Regarding The Armoured Battlegroup army List, in Imperial Armour Volume I:

-How is the Slick Loader Skill goin to be applied to a leman russ; now that it is a heavy vehicle(p 83 rulebook) ??

Can I move within 6 and shoot the battlecanon twice as it is considered stationary?
Does it requiere an abscence of movement to shoot two times?

1.2- As general Grizmund and the Grace of Throne are an HQ option for an I.G. army or an armoured battlegroup; can he be the warlord in a standar warhammer 40k game.?

- If so; dos he has a leadership value?

-In this train of thoughts; can the Throne buy Ace Crew Skill?

2.- Regarding Siege of Vraks volumes I, II, III...

- Is and update of the renegades lists updates to be spected soon?
- Are the "old" updates still available?

3.- Regarding The Imperial Armour Aeronautica:

- Is the Avenger Strike Fighter based on a Su-25 froogfoot or an A-10 warthog?
- Is is possible to read some desingners notes regarding on its creation (rules wise)??
-Is other Valkyrie "gunship" variant being considered?

Untill then and thanks in advance.

--- Forge world Formal answer ----

Hi there.

The Imperial Armour volume 1 will be re-published very soon with updated rules for all of the units and army lists contained within.

---- end of Forge world formal answer-----

Awesome work dude, just awesome! I've just started a Guard Army based on a German WW2 theme- I've got a lot of inspiration from this thread!

Really liking the cold war aesthetic you've got going on here. Also, that tank looks excellent. Love that turret!

Greetings Gentlemen; the Commisar tank has just arrived.

propagandistical photo with de Boyard (KV-demolisher) included.

Also, a minor detail with de Boyard; the hull weapon is detachable and magnetized.

Until then.

... an so we continue:

It has been a week since I received my own copy of this....

so, after some proper drooling; I went to the proper study of the armoured battlegroup list.
(if anybody is willin to talk abouth that subject, be kind enought to send me a private message)

So, Commisar tanks are no longer HQ but elites; therefore we have two choices:

a) Command tank with battle canon
b) Command tank with autocannons and heavy bolters

or.... Command tank, battle canon and comisar tank with.... you know

other of the list changes is the posibility to field Thunderer tank platoons so, Im toying with the idea of making to of those beast.

Theme wise, Im somewhat dissapointed, a Politruk tank giving a LD bubble to the weapon teams and sporting a mat black turret was just to good to let it pass.

Your Thoughts?

@Nowland. actually that would be even better than the exterminator autocannon turret i was thinking of.

@jehan-reznor: thanks!! this army is my personal eternal quest for a great theme and a gerat army.
I started playing IG since mid third edition and util late 4 edition I had the means and conditions to make it happen.

any thoughts in the composition of a HQ leman russ??

Due to the "dark arts" of a friend of mine the Boyard (demolisher) turrets are done.

the original plan was to field 2 Boyards with triple bolters or plasma canons; but as you can see now I have three spare turrets.

any suggestions?
