Perkustin's Marines. [PEINTURE!]  @ 2011/04/11 01:24:38

Post by: Perkustin

Greetings good sirs and madams. I have never collected an Astartes force and thought now would be a good time to start. Mainly because i have a suspicion that the battleforce is overdue for a price hike (Pesky GW). (EDITED as of 09/06/11 HA! beat you GW!) So on impulse i bought a battleforce and an extra razorback. I also made an order from forgeworld (more on that later).

There is however a twist in this tale, i love the idea of wolf scouts and grey hunters, i think they well represent the kind of marines i would want to collect. So this is a spacewolves army, though the rune priest who will lead is hard to explain i definitely wont be including any Thunderwolves (Or thunderhorses, thunderbikes, thunderbuggies, thundermechs or thundergolfcarts.), Fenrisan wolves or special characters as i think they are too space wolvsey to get away with.

EDIT: Finally i would like to namecheck the blog that pushed me over the edge for space marines (And no it doesn't involve gitsplitta lol)

So that is the preamble over, now, time to introduce THE DIATRIBORS

++ Re. [REDACTED] information forwarded to Inquisior Quiran Uolis.

You don't understand, the events that transpired on [REDACTED] cost them. A price dearer than the 650 battle brothers, a price we or they are yet to comprehend. Empathy for the Diatribors, Pity for the Diatribors, Mercy please for the Diatribors.

I implore you Quiran, stay your master's hand!
[Author censored by order of Inquisitor lord Militant [REDACTED]]

*Arm painted red to honour those who fell on [REDACTED]

The Diatribors
(Chapter under review due to their recent deployment in [REDACTED])
Founding Chapter: Unknown, Originally believed to be of Dornian stock their Betcher's gland and Hibernation faculties are fully functional casting doubts on this provenance. Coincidently around the time of their founding many chapter's had submitted gene seed for 'Hybridisation' as far as records embellish this was halted following anomalies arising while sequencing Space Wolf zygotes.
Founding Date: 9th founding.
Home world: Prydus Main
Fleet Presence: 1 Battle Barge; The Nemean. A complement of 15 thunder hawks 5 transporters aboard.
Chapter master: Benhamen Herakles. (Presided over by Honoured brother Sarpengedes)
Strength: 343 battle brothers 140% capacity Scout company. Approximately 10 Tactical dreadnought suits available.
Codex: Exceptable deviation, deviations approved and vetted by peer review. Deviations specified (see below.)
Battle tactics/specialisation: Line-breakers, Mobile fire power, Urban warfare, Siege warfare.
Further Notes: Low count of Predator Battle engines and no currently operational Land Raider Assault engines, Low count of Tactical dreadnought suits. Chapter is Currently in sub optimal operator status awaiting review. Remaining battle brothers have survived in excess of average peak expectancies. All but a handful having completed more than 150 missions. 11 dreadnoughts available for battle, most recently being joined by the ex-chapter Master Pavel Sarpengedes who was mortally wounded during the action on [REDACTED].
Battle cry: 'Victory is our Vindication!!'

Deviations from Codex:

Experienced warriors: most of the battle brothers, or 'Toxototes' as they are colloquially known, are overdue on receiving their terminator honours. This is in part due to the desperate rearguard action of [REDACTED]. Though they are low in number they more than make up for it in experience.

The Agoge: Again due to the desperately high casualties received on the killing fields of [REDACTED] the Diatribors have a high amount of scout Neophytes. The less experienced of these will be sent on reconnaissance missions or accompany Imperial regiments on escort or patrol. Only when Neophytes are truly on the cusp of entering the fold are they permitted to accompany the full Marines into battle. Here the scouts must work to their fullest potential using their stealth tactics and cunning to the full before leave them behind for good.

Mobile Fire power: The chapter has always assigned their heavy weaponry only to dedicated devastator squads. In part this is due to their use by imperial commanders as line breakers; a tactical squad is better remaining mobile when crossing no-man's land or scaling fortress walls.

Modelling rules on project.
*Slightly taller than a regular marine, my test model is about half a foot (scale wise) taller than a regularly assmebled marine.
*No chainswords/axes. Don't like 'em, Knives or nothing for these guys. I have press moulded the scout Machete accesory and each marine will get one.
*Heresy and Maximus armour, have ordered a pack of each from forgeworld, will be mixing them in.
*Repressor dozers on all rhino's/razorbacks, I reckon it is within my skill level to attempt scratch building these.
*More equipment on each space marine, i know it's not like marines to carry lots of spare ammo but these guys have ended up in some of the harshest warzones ever seen by the imperium. Have ordered the elysian accesory pack as i thought it looked a good fit, plus i think the diatribors wouldn't leave home without some demo charges.
*MVIII Errant gorgets on everyone, went well on the test model, just used a litte strip of the thinnest plasticard i had and some tweezers.
*Elysian Respirator heads on the scouts, Hey it looked good on the GW blog lol.

So that's a good little intro, unfortunately i am without a camera atm but if i find a way to get pictures in the next couple days i will do so.
Please leave some comments. Even if they are 'No pics LOLWUT!!?!'

hello perkustin,

reading and seeing your other stuff i expect to see some good minis in the coming time.
sorry to hear you won´t implement
thundergolfcarts
... that would be epic^^
as for your colorscheme, tho i faer it is far from uniuque it is a really nice one!^^ and if you can pull off the white as you did some of your colors on your DE i think this will look stunning.
your Battle cry:
'Victory is our Vindication!!'

must be some cruel joke as i understand your glimpse of fluff you´ve shown, they are not currently known for their ability to be victorious^^ and now they are even not really that good looked upon by the higher authorities it seems... or did i get something wrong here?

from waht i gather how you want the minis to look like i think you are onto something cool looking, what with all the armor upgrading and extras, and i am all for fully kitted SM! so go for some pouches and stuff to the marines! also like your take on how you have more than average scouts in your army! this is very fluffy and i think could give a whole new egde into gaming...
tho i do like chainswords^^ i will look forward to see sm with machetes as i think this could create a cool look yet again^^

cheers mate and i will following this close !

vik

Cheers guys for the interest. Will try and reward you with pics in the next week or so. Just fished my dads old camera out his workshop, it snarled angrily then died... D'oh, that was my backup plan.

@ Vik the Diatribors have an illustrious history of great victories over the enemies of the emperor, it is just the recent battle on the blood choked fields of [DELETED] that has seen them near broken.

Verging on threadomancy, Thank goodness this is P&M where 'sabbaticals' are common, nay, expected.

So had a sudden fit of hobby magic and painted a test model for my diatribors. Now, I mentioned earlier how i am impulsive paint scheme chooser, well........

I am quite pleased with him and i think i am starting to improve my painting.

I notice a fixture of Dakka is donating one's Yellow marine painting recipe. I will happily oblige:

-Grey undercoat
-basecoat machiarius Orange
-Wash 50:50 Delven mud and Griffin Sepia (two coats may be neccesary depending how 'sandy' you want the colour)
-'90% highlight' 50:50 macharius orange and Iyanden yellow (watering down is recommended)
-'80% highlight' Iyanden yellow (You'll probably want to water down the foundation paint here as well..)
-Edges/lighting 50:50 Iyanden yellow and Skull white

This will give you a nice mucky yellow, overall a similar look to Iyanden yellow itself.

Here is another test model, i hope it displays how i intend to subtely convert each and every guy.

Flukely i have managed to Nail the posing on this guy, i think it has alot to do with the slight tilt of the head... I have titled this photo 'It ends Here!' Btw, it's what i think when i look at this guy.

Will probably post soon with the detail work on the testor and some more background odds and ends.

Finally a question, what colour bolter casing? Red? Green?! I am quite fond of the iron hands' white bolters personally.

Wow what a beauty . Nice colours , thanks for the yellow tip. The posing is fantastic on both . a white bolter casing may clash with your shoulder pad. maybe white and green? good to see you back Perky.

Post by: Viktor von Domm

cool yellow marine you have there...the scheme looks very nice...reminds me due to the light of the pic a bit of my own earthangels...for boltercasing... i would have said red...but you already did one arm in red so i iopt too for the white casings...some colors have to have some space in between so to better pop...

very good work...one minor thing for me... the secon(grey) marine ...i can´t really figure out how the bolterstrap would work in this position...he looks(only about the strap) as if he pulls off the brastrap...the other arm and the cocked head looks ace together by the way...

cheers, vik

I wanted something that looked like he was either getting his bolter from its hip-clip or putting it there, it was an experiment in posing, i'll admit it is not entirely successful.

I decided during work that the bolter casing will be yellow also, with dark silver, almost black mechanisms, as i realised recently that very few real guns have any bear metal.

Will try and finish him in the next few hours....

Post by: Perkustin

@Matrim, knew i was gonna get some grief about that, remembered after id assembled him, might try it with the next lad though. Thanks.

@Nerdfest, thanks very much! I think yellow kinda suits my style of painting.

@Slavetodarkness, Most my painting is, i dont think anything looks good unless it hits the three stage highlight....

Chest pouch:
It was either a pouch or a buckler, as imo a marine needs something in that position, i forwent a buckler as i think Gothic-future-knight marines have been overdone. Tbh i love gothic-future-knights but everyone else has done them so well that i thought a more contempary theme would be more unique.

Righto....

Here goes another experiment in space marine posing. IMO this is the holy grail for space marine modellers; the ADS (Aiming Down sight, What happens when you hold left trigger ) . Many a Militaria fetishist (of which there are many on dakka) have moaned about marines aiming from the hip so here's my attempt

Since this picture i have tilted the hand to be cupping the corner where the foregrip meets the magazine, as this seems to be the army way of gripping smg's or other short barrel weapons.

Obviously it is impossible to tilt the head as much as i would want but it gives just enough of the impression he has is eyes down the iron sighting. Another problem with trying to repostion the SM arms into an ADS stance is avoiding the 'tilting bolter', alot of people try this pose but always have the bolter rocking a 'gansta lean', it looks cool but also kinda stupid...

However successful you deem it to be i have definitely learned alot about posing space marines, Hint: It involves breaking the arm down into it's, helpfully distinct, elements. Then drilling each end of each piece and fudging with bluetack/pinning/greenstuff.

Subject: Further Auditing of our losses

++I am the last one my lord, when the Aegean died my brothers to were consumed in the plasma fires. Praise the emperor I was aboard the Hoplon 20,000 light years away with our full complement of Weapon-smith class factory vessels.

Brother Corinth was a respected Techmarine and had many allies on the red planet, I am afraid to report my relations are not so cordial. I need not list the names of the other eight we lost that day but rest assured they are holding a service on Mars as we speak.

Of course you know full well that grim fate the Nemean's sister vessel endured, you were there, you Allowed Corinth and his techmarines aboard as Lord Sarpengedes lay dying in your arms. The plasma reactor was too far gone for salvation but you were right to send my brothers aboard, you were right to try.

Fear not however, though we are wearied from the journey Corinth's apprentices and I are already hard at work restoring the battle engines and war suits of our glorious chapter. Corinth taught me well and many of the apprentices are already displaying the skills of a full techmarine. Soon we will be able to take pride in our Artifice once again.

You contacted me regarding the loss of our Terminator suits and with some joy I proffer a solution. On route to your command post are brother Ezra and Tomas, they will join your tactical squads and help with the search. Indeed they have not seen any military action for around 5 years and relish the chance to fight after years studying in Fabricator Deschamp's Monastery.

Your Humble servant and proud claimant of Chief Techmarine,
Brother and Honorary Magos 1st class, Clinton Persepolis.++

Lol was just looking at ADS man and realised that he has luvely bionic occules on one eye but decides to aim with the other.... Whoops.

BTW i think i may attempt a leftie next. Thanks to Brother Argo's amazing (and unfortunately 6 months dead ( Seriously though seek it out!) Iron Hands thread i know the key....

On the rhino accesory sprue there are a pair of arms for the pintle storm bolter, simply snip off the lefty!

Great work so far! The Abnett-esque fluff is great as are the custom poses. I know how much work goes into that sort of thing.

I agree with SlaveToDorkness and Matrim: not a fan of the chest pouches, and drill your barrels.

I look foreward to seeing more. Subscribed!

I was thinking of a Mgs3 style cqc grip with knife for another guy. Also i am currently considering ways of having my powerfist 'wolf guard' troops actually properly aiming their Combi meltas, should be intersting.

Also a variation on this pose would be nice (right), but i would have to de-squat which will be incredibly tricky. (Including handle Foregrip)

I havent really been in a dark eldar mood the last couple of months but even my space marines have lain silently in their boxes. Well i Needed some hobby motivation and luckily it arrived today in the form of a mark 4 dreadnought from forgeworld! I have spent the last couple hours assembling it, pinning near everything, (yes i even pinned the smoked launcher!). As my first forgeworld kit i would have to say it was fairly easy to assemble. The one difficulty was the breaching drill elbow joint, i had to thread a pin all the way through to ensure it wouldn't break if i exhaled sharply. As if to test i dropped it 20mins ago, In one piece. I may buy a drop pod for this guy, Bummed if i'm gonna pay 60 buck for a FW dreadnought one though! A quick tip would be to Criss cross all the 'rubbed joints' on the kit with a hobby knife it gives the superglue a heck of alot more purchase.

The base has a banner of chaos on it with a broken flagpole, nothing ott just thought i would add some texture to the flat base. I havent glued the rock drill chuck teeth yet, look it up on forgeworld if you don't no what i looks like.

On the subject of forgeworld i give you my second kit:
THE STEAMDOZER!

Yes.... It is terryfying... It is definitely on the back burner for the next few months.
EDIT am just waiting for the PVA to dry on the base then i will attempt to prime it.

Another idea to run past you:

Mark of the wulfen, MOTW is a really good upgrade for a single member of a spacewolves squad, it basically means the Squad member gets a bunch more armour piercing attacks. Obviously for a normal spacewolves army this is represented by one of the ace 'Wulfen' models.

For my non-lycan force I was thinking that a combi plasma converted to hold one of the Chainsaw bayonets from the forge world Umbra ferrox bolters would look cool. The idea being that it is a special bulkhead breaching attachment for a regular bolter (which i would call an 'Arc Render') with a plasma power source. The chainsaw would replace the muzzle of the plasma combi.

Hey Perkustin, Lovely dread mate, and what an epic steamship, very jealous of those two fine models. but best of all is the Arc render , very well designed idea , looks much nicer than the original 40k chain axes placed on the end of over long bolters, but best of all is how much thought you put into the design , so it makes sense. I personally have great affection for boarding parties , after a youth spent with space crusade . iT would be cool to see a squad designed by you for close boarding actions .

Hi everybody!

Well decided to do some modelling today. I set myself the challenge of converting an Umbra ferrox into a combi melta and converting one of the splendid maximus armour FW marines to hold a (chaos) power fist. This will be the loadout of four of my 'Aquilifier Guard' and last time i checked i had JUST enough power fists and melta barrels to do it. The posing goal of today was to work out a way to depict the combi melta and powerfist setup in a non dramatic way. So here is the finished pose.

Initially i didnt like the way he was daintily holding the gun between thumb and forefinger but the more i thought of it the more it made sense. You generally would hold something daintily if your hand was a fist.... Of power..... I also introduce the 'Euphaestus-Corinth pattern combi-bolter' and yes that tube is from a Q-tip . I love the de-squatted legs from forgeworld gives the space marines a surprising elegance. The pose is also oddly 'pimp' he appears to have alot of 'swagger'. One slight flaw that is not pictured is the fact the cool exhaust vents from the chaos P.fist are currently venting right into a handy gap in his armour (it wouldn't fit otherwise lol)

Plus here's a dreadnought in a particularly ugly basecoat of Orange:

as for the marine... looking really peaceful^^ a bit as if he is waiting for the bus....

Was just finishing the first guy before bed last night when i decided to work on the next powerfist. It was yet another pointing one so i went ahead and chopped off the finger and the elbow as i wanted to rotate it. After about an hour rebuilding the upper arm with greenstuff and nearly as long rebuilding the knuckle of the finger i had chopped off (haha! was impressed by my OCD modelling at this point) i was left with quite a nice 'at rest' powerfist pretty similar to the command squad one (which i covet). After i had finished to my horror i realised it was left handed... Inspiration struck in the form of a very popular space marine miniature:

(image courtesy of 'Rushsputin' and google lol)

Spoiler:

So here is my, WIP(still working on the supplemental skirt armour), Ripoff

Pretty cool eh? I cant take credit for the great look of this guy, i didnt know the infernus pistol (thanks Unanything!) would fit so beautifully into the umbra ferrox bolter, i didnt know the maximus cuirass would make him look so tough and i lucked out on finding that captain powersword arm. He was really just a happy accident, apart from the Fist; i spent ages on that, i take full credit!

I am also very pleased with his partner who after some detail work looks pretty cool.

Thanks Bigfish! You're too kind.

Here is something i kept forgetting to post:

The chapter sigil of the Diatribors

Please forgive the shoddiness and pixellation, i will draw it up on a vector based drawing program (Macromedia Freehand, Old but good) ASAP

I wont tell you what it is, you will have to guess. Lets just say it is 'classical' and i have put a Rhombus in the middle because lets face it, Rhombuses are cool. Apart from that it is just a simple shape as my freehand is just that, a freehand to ruin my paintjobs! XD

I've used gimp a couple times, i used it for a galaxy map and some fluff pics. Its great but there is just a reaction to reach for paint when i want to 'sketch' something.

Yeah me too.

As the mighty Neil101 himself couldn't work it out, clearly my symbol is too abstract:

It is a Lictor's Fasces . I thought it seemed quite apt, although seeing as Fascism is named after them perhaps a little un-PC.

EDIT: Maybe i will change the Rhombus to the X of rope shown in that picture.

your minis looking very good, and i have to demand for the people following your threads that you either zoom your pics, or that your pics be zoomable...for me the minis were way to small to fully apreciate your design! tho from what i see you have some really cool looking poses

nice idea of the symbol...i suspected something along those lines...tho after loocing up Lictor's Fasces via wiki i have to say that with all the background of that symbol the color scheme red and white with a possible blck in between might be a bit on the dangerous side...

p.s.
Apart from that it is just a simple shape as my freehand is just that, a freehand to ruin my paintjobs! XD

Wow really love the Lictor fasces, I have actually never heard of them , and i used to be in a viking reanactment group , hangs head in shame, changing the rombus to an X is a good idea , and i would change the axe head shap too , as that axe head is way to middle aged for a dark age weapon

Thanks for teaching me something new today

Cheers for looking vik! Yeah will zoom in a bit next time.

From what i remember a lictor was a senator's bodyguard and they weren't allowed to bring blades into the senate. To make sure they could still do their job however they were allowed to bring in a tight bundle of sticks that would hurt but not kill. To give his personal bodyguards an edge it was said that Sulla, a kindof proto Julius Caesar had his Lictors hide an axe in their bundles, Just in case. Needless to say everyone else followed suit.

Here is something mad i just thought up for my rune priest/librarian. The way the cloaks merged after a bit of snipping said to me that this was meant to happen.

Next step is GS the gap and add some bulk to the wrist, he's still a superhuman after all! More on this as i progress.

Looking good, looking good. One thing though, imo the marine with the combi melter is bit out of balance. I'd try to build up his chest and waist a little (like you started by adding that shield to his belt), the arms look huge atm.

I recognised the Fasces fairly easily. T be honest as far as I'm concerned it's as PC as the Aquila....Conversions are looking excellent and I especially like the casual Power Fist guy. It's so rare to see one actually being used to do something other than unch or gesture.

Aye he needs a wee bulk out, its the one flaw with the FW mark 4 armour, the hips are just a little too skinny.

Now i developed my Librarian/zauberer and here he is taking shape:

He is sporting a homemade psionic hood and a head from the grey knights kit (a swap, and yes the one everyone says looks like the rapist from the beginning of braveheart), the bare arm will get a shoulder pad eventually. What i like about the pose is the slow advance of it, he looks like he is repelling an energy field/warp storm with strength of mind alone.

I am thinking of a half buried powerblade on the other end of the staff, like he has dug in to anchor himself or..... Absorb more POWER!

Hello! Felt like painting today. so here is my dreadnought. I haven't painted the mechanical gubbinz (or legs lol!) yet: They will all just be old school Boltgun/Badad/Mithril, the simple ones are always the best

So without further ado i give you Honoured Brother Sarpengedes

Better lighting:

Worse lighting but after remembering to finish the cables :

A random angle just in case i mess it up lol:

For vik who asked about the timescale of my highlighting. The highlighting (from earlier in the blog you will notice he had been basecoated) took the length of the movie Thor (Really enjoyed it! ). As you can see i have approached the weathering from a decidely un-imaginative angle and just painted it on, i think it looks good but definitely cartoony rather than realistic. Also you may notice this is my first attempt at lenses, i would like to thank Catatafish for his excellent tutorial!

So what do you think?

The dread is actually a good example of a cornerstone of my painting: keep it simple! Details like the eagles and optics have been painted the main colour. I didnt want to do them in gold or add any other colour to the model. I think it looks the better for it.

Hey mate , i like your painting style , the Honoured Brother Sarpengedes looks very nice , the lens's are great , i ahavent tried doing those yet , but do you have a link for the tut?

the weathering does look cartoonish , but if thats the intent , well done. it could do with more depth though imo. colour scheme is ineteresting , like the idea of seperate top to bottom a lot. its not a scheme you often see done well . the leg guards are crying out for some of your free hand imo , would look really good mate.

I have to admit my first thoughts when I saw the painting on the dread was that must have been a big seagull that pooped on him, all joking aside though I like the paintjob.

Its always hard to get an idea what the finished article will look like when the painting is still in progress, Im sure once all the parts are attached it will look even better. What we are seeing now is a small fraction of the impact that a finished model will have.

And you have still painted more than me, I havent painted in so long all my paints have gone solid and I have to purchase them all over again, which sucks.

Consider me subbed and watching with interest. I was going to head down the road of Lamenters - I think thats what the marines with checkered pads and love hearts are called - but wasnt to sure on the yellow. However, you sir have pulled the colour off. It is exactly how I picture the Lamenters and not the bright yellow people paint them today. A kind of 'muddy' yellow. (I know you aren't painting Lamenters just thought I would say your paint scheme is how I would have pictured mine to turn out).

Anyways enough of my dribbling. You sir have a good little blog thingy space here.

the dread looks good, but as neil said too the weathering looks a tad to cartoonish for my taste....if it was me/ mine i would do some retouching there to keep it better in line with the rest of the most exellent paintjob!

Wow... the name sounds incredibly horrible, though at the same time I could see a cool game/movie/cereal to be made out of this. "Two battle brothers.... united by the desire... to krump some alien skulls.... with nary but a powerfist..."

Very characterful marines themselves, though. I always love that forgeworld armour, and some convenient conversion work when it comes to a combi-melta.

Coming in October to very select theatres, Kaesar II

Perkustin's Marines. [PEINTURE!]  @ 2011/08/17 16:03:07

Post by: Perkustin

Thanks everyone! The heresy does look quite beefy, the fat pitbull head and chunky legs really make it. Annoying thing with a 'mono-loadout' squad (P.Fist + Combi-melta) is that it is hard to think up poses for them all. The last guys is gonna have to be a 'Pointer' as my last powerfist is the metal one from a veteran kindly donated/swapped by a friend.

Spoiler:

The middle guy. I like the guy but he doesn't fit with my armies aesthetic. So i am taking the fist. I have an old marneus calgar model and i am severely tempted to use the fist from him, should i do it? I would probably have to snip off the bolter.

@Dragoons, awesome you asked after the cloak as i was working on it last night. Here it is! (will still get a shoulder pad).

ARGH FINGER PRINT! darn...

Here's a little stage by stage to show you what i did:

Did some modest trimming to get the cloak to fit. Also shaved done the wrist so i could 'beef it up' later, he is a steroid munching marine after all.

Covered the join with two large folds in the cloak. Sculpted some crude musculature on the wrist. Added a new fold at the elbow to suggest a more beefy arm underneath.

Perkustin's Marines. [PEINTURE!]  @ 2011/08/17 18:20:14

Post by: Lord Kaesar II

Well, just remember that unless you're using the finecast Calgar, those bolters are a bitch and a half to remove. Well, they aren't that bad, but they certainly aren't convenient, just like any other thick pewter removal. Though on the other hand, the PA Marneus, with just the raised fist, makes a pretty cool veteran like model. Unless you want to lose the Ultramarine symbols.

By the way, is this librarian going to be going without an armoured arm or is that going to be added in portions?Never knew a marine to eschew non-vital armour, except for those old pictures with the action hero head and no glove... oh such generic beginnings

Keep it real. Kaesar II

Post by: Perkustin

So finally got round to some modelling in the past week. Have been attempting some stuff with space marine legs that may be of interest but thats for a future post.

For Now i give you the last two members of my Stern-wolf-guard. I kinda wimped out with the last guy, he may yet just be a normal marine/sergeant but i really want to start painting these doods. So look out for one last combi melta/fist guy somewhere along the line.

Here's the Sergeant (fluffwise, AFAIK ruleswise wolf guard dont have a sergeant upgrade). He actually had a fairly cool 360 gorget with Master chief syle vents at the sides, until i realized space marines had massive shoulder pads .

+I had a tiny blob of waste GS so I rather half-arsedly re-sculpted some of the chest eagle i filed off, it looks horrible this close but i can live with it.

+The combi melta looks pretty nifty here, sorry there are no better pics .

Rather annoyingly i came up with the definitive (imo) combi melta for him, i really wish i had thought of it ealrier. It is simply a melta barrel (for wysiwyg purposes, obviously any 'Thermic gun' looking doo-hickey would suffice) stuck on a powerplant from an astartes chainsword stuck on the bottom of a UF bolter. I filed the foregrip right down to the barrel, including the rail as i dont like my combi weapons looking too 'Tall'.

This last guy does look good its just from the side he looks like he is doing something between the Thriller strut and the more recent 'Creep'.
Spoiler:

+And yes, i did cut down the fingers so they were the right sizes. Infact hobby tip, the 'socket' hand in your bog standard bolter arms has freakishly long fingers, bear this in mind if you wish to use them. Imo the same can be said for the Missile launcher hand, though many people still use it for the 'martial arts' look.

+This angle much better illustrates what i was going for. I called this picture 'the failed ambush' as it what i imagine some sneaky traitor would see when he bursts from cover.

the dirt looks very good to me...same with the base color of the armour...what i am not so much satisfied with is the white splashes...i bet they should look like waer and tear ...but they do look somewhat...iffy...some more scratched look i think would have helped here...
but then again on the bare metalwork, the scratched look is next to perfect...

Some painting, i kinda dropped him so his gun fell off. I have yet to do the detailing although the joints will remain black as that's How i like 'em. This guy took forever to paint and apart from the helmet and chest i am not entirely happy.

I have included a close up just to show how messily painted it truly is. The LED daylight bulb has kinda neutralised the orange shading, so you will have to trust me when i say it is a nice warm yellow IRL.

A hook would be pretty Awesome Mordain, though an improbably large underslung Holocaust canon is a bit more 40k.

Thanks for all the great comments guys! Especially for the complements on the scheme.

So i reatached the Improbably large underslung holocaust canon.

He's largely finished, just need to do some basing. Also the bullets need to be painted gold. The chipped black looks a little weird after the auto-adjustment but i am fairly happy with it irl.

Once it warms up and isnt raining i'll prime the last of the dreadnought bits and finish that up.

Then i may do some more modelling, think it is about time i finished my leg project. I just need to do the feet and the knee tube bits behind the knee guard. Then i am looking to cast them as i dont like the default 'squat lunge' the static marines have.

Failing that i will just assemble my 'Dynamic' tactical squad. This is the one that will utilise the running legs from the battleforce assault marines and forgeworld kits. As i am starting to notice that alot of my reticence in painting comes from not actually assembling stuff. Looks at the rhino and razorback kits.

Oh and anyone know where i put my librarian? Cant seem to find him lol.

The shadows on the yellow are lovely! Reddish brown with some black, I like complex shadows...
