Anyone else been looking into this? I am trying to find some more info on it, but supposedly somebody jailbroke their PS3 through their iPhone to install their own apps. Sony is pissed because the guy reverse engineered their tech and then an "Anonymous?" person hacked the entire Sony Network in retaliation. I will post some additional info as I find it.

Some new info from Ma55ter_fett:

This hurts gamers more than it hurts Sony. Those losing out are the people who already own PS3s. Why should the gamers be the victims?

OH NO!! SONY took away the one way for the PS3 to get viruses!?!?

I know what is a reasonable response!!

Irritate the millions of gamers who want to use PSN over the easter weekend! That'll show SONY how reasonable we are, whilst not inconveniencing the gamers themselves!

Are you saying that everyone who owns a console deserves to be annoyed, and furthermore those who own a console are not gamers? What are you on...

Its not like PSN is Xbox live, they don't get any money for it unless you specifically download things, and that's optional. So Sony is loosing barely any money to this pathetic attack by people who have no life and nothing better to do than to hack PSN. Why? because they are frustrated little idiots who's lives are worthless.

I mean, come on, its not like Sony is a big bad organisation slowly taking over the world through the use of its tyrannical network.

Rant over, and I think most people agree that this attack was useless.

A) In what way are console owners not gamers?

B) Why do console owners "deserve it and more", we aren't exactly able to influence SONY's decisions.

Are you sure that you aren't just trolling?

A bit of a nightmare for PS3 users, its news even on the BBC website now, its been going on so long.

I do have a serious wonder though, how has this now happened to PSN, what three times? and yet LIVE as far as I am aware not been taken down so far. What is Sony doing.

Or is it just a side effect of the paid/not paid service, LIVE has much more to loose if it was to be hacked due to having to compensate Gold lvl users?

I can happily say I own a PS3, and this has happened once before, but the network was only down for like... 3 hours or something. There was supposed to be an update coming out near the end of this month, due to SOCOM 4 coming out, but I've been having the problem since Thursday. Either way, it totally sucks that we PS3 owners, gamers, whatever you want to call us, got screwed over on the Easter weekend... Bet the guys at Microsoft are pissing themselves laughing...

Yeah, if some hacker decided to do this in retaliation over SONY taking away an ability or for suing a hacker who hacked the PS3 then its totally okay. Its justified to make sure that I can't play games online.

Some kid who had been locker stuffed one too many times decided to grow a pair online and make himself look "cool" by messing sony up ( Although I feel a large team was responsible ).

Sony should use this opportunity to say "Sorry everyone, here is a free month of PS Plus for you all!". By doing this they would appease those who pay for the service and encourage those who might have not to try out all that it can offer and get them hooked into it, generating lost revenue (The psn service is free however people buy things online through psn daily such as games/dlc/movies and that is money they are not seeing right now).

So you're saying after getting hacked, Sony should just say to the hacker "its ok, we forgive you for pissing us and everyone who owns a Ps3 off, and we will not do anything about it because we're such nice guys"?

Um yeah, the hacker deserves to get sued if he's just doing it to "look cool" as happydude said. Besides, has anyone heard of Sony taking away an ability? I for one haven't, so does anyone know why Psn actualy got hacked?

I think he was being sarcastic.

And Sony did take away an ability, we used to be able to install Linux on PS3 consoles, but because it was the only way for them to get viruses, it was removed.

Sony said they were hacked, but the shut down is them.

They're enhancing the security, apparently, to prevent further brakes in the system.

With bonus content for games like Red Dead Redemption, Mortal Kombat, Medal of Honor, and other games I can't really say that I feel like I'm being punished. Its just that hackers like to go after SONY because they try to get rid of hackers by shutting down their systems or suing them. Compared to xbox's amazing level of hackers and stupidity, my friend plays Black Ops on the 360 and he had eight or so challenges ready to be completed one after the other. He completed them all and went up two levels(being level 40+) and he got his account on Black Ops reset to level 1 and banned for a week. He has yet to pick it back up and sticks with Battlefield Bad Company now.

Anonymous is just a group of angry people who feel entitled to getting whatever they want for free because they have 1337 skills at being haxorz. I just wonder if anyone else is almost willing enough to give money for SONY to form an elite team of ex-spec ops guys to deal with hackers.

That has to suck. However this may be the time to introduce him to the wonderful world of wargaming, where the servers are always up (Although GW much like sony loves to leave folks in the dark lol). Actually as a PS3 owner, I'm kind of glad it's down. I've found this drive toward having to verify my single player games online to be a pain in the ass and server/network failure happens enough, maybe companies like EA will abandon this model in favor of putting out entire games, rather then making you download half the game after release.

They've killed all the arcades in Canada. There are only two alive in Toronto and even then Playdium sucks and Lovegetty is quite the ways away for an arcade romp afternoon. I have played friends in MK however it is not an everyday even and would be nice to smack em around when the mood struck.

This is a serious mess Sony have got on their hands. Having purchased things on the PSN before I'm going to have to keep a constant eye on my credit card statement for the next few months. Seriously dissappointing work from such a powerful company.

Oh, and if that Finnish troll is still reading: I own both a gaming PC and a PS3 because I'm a big boy grown up and don't feel the need to draw arbitrary lines in the sand between the-only-platform-that-my-parents-bought-for-me and others. I play games a lot, it accounts for a lot of my free time, on both platforms. Do I consider myself a gamer? No. I consider myself a person. Grow up.

And htj if you aren't a gamer then why are you acting like one?

My response is to your comments about this issue's effect on console owners. You don't like people for playing on consoles? You think they deserve to suffer? What the hell is that about?

He's an elitist PC gamer who thinks he's better than anyone playing on the console because he feels the need to validate his constant driver and video card purchases for his PC. Sure he probably spent a staggering $1,000 on his PC and will spend much more to upgrade to newer games, but he's better than console gamers who spend $300 or so and wait until a newer console comes out.

Sure he has to have an internet connection to play with others unlike console users who can play splitscreen, but his PC has Directx 11 and that's all he needs.

Plus hackers changing the game with aimbot and god mode online make the game interesting as opposed to the boring monotony of console owners who face less in game hacking.

Peace, illuknisaa. I hope your opinions bring you happiness.

This entire thing was started because Anonymous didn't like that Sony took down Geohot (another group of hackers). So they started a series of hack attacks, now it's getting out of hand. Immature pricks are depriving millions of gamers of online gaming and services they have paid for.

I hope Sony shakes this off within the month, and the children that hack for anonymous are bitch-slapped into the apocalypse.

Now was the Geohot the guy that wanted to add Linux back to his PS3? I thought that was why this whole thing started. The guy jailbroke his PS3 to add Linux back to it (a feature that was on the launch systems).

I'm not convinced Anonymous did this. They've accepted responsibility for the denial of services attacks on Sony sites, but denied involvement in this. Since their attacks are always DoS, I suspect that they're not actually capable of hacking of this nature, much as they'd like everyone to believe they're omnipotent. The theft of private information doesn't fit their MO, either. It seems possible that the earlier Anonymous attacks could have provided the distraction necessary for more serious hackers to break in the back door, as it were.

Or maybe its just a giant conspiracy. SONY is purposefuly shutting down their own system and stealing their own information so that the government will allow SONY to have death squads. Once this happens SONY will take out the hackers with extreme force and then turn on the government of Japan where it will hijack the country and later the world.

There have been times where they act independently of each other. Remember the westboro stuff a month ago? There were a few people from Anonymous that did some of that but other got them to back off because westboro was going to farm their IPs.

As for stealing private info, well it doesn't fit their MO if they use the info for other attacks on us, but stealing it in general is a way to show they mean business.

You got me totally wrong. I don't hate you because you play on a console. I personally think consoles suck (not entirely though) and their games suck but that's OK. Some people really like things that suck. The problem is that you are pissing on my lawn. Because of you I can play crappy ports so THX.

I really think that somebody hacking to psn is bad? Guess what 2011 started with a load of gak (Crysis 2, Dragon Age 2, Homefront) so yes you do deserve everything bad that is happening to you.

I don't hate wii.

Son of a

I just got this email sent to me from SONY... It is talking about what has happened... and what they got...

Valued PlayStation Network/Qriocity Customer: We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19, 2011, certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account information was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network.

In response to this intrusion, we have:

1) Temporarily turned off PlayStation Network and Qriocity services;

2) Engaged an outside, recognized security firm to conduct a full and complete investigation into what happened;

and 3) Quickly taken steps to enhance security and strengthen our network infrastructure by rebuilding our system to provide you with greater protection of your personal information.

We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding and goodwill as we do whatever it takes to resolve these issues as quickly and efficiently as practicable. Although we are still investigating the details of this incident, we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state/province, zip or postal code), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password, login, password security answers, and handle/PSN online ID.

It is also possible that your profile data may have been obtained, including purchase history and billing address (city, state/province, zip or postal code). If you have authorized a sub-account for your dependent, the same data with respect to your dependent may have been obtained. While there is no evidence that credit card data was taken at this time, we cannot rule out the possibility. If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, out of an abundance of caution we are advising that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may also have been obtained.

For your security, we encourage you to be especially aware of email, telephone, and postal mail scams that ask for personal or sensitive information. Sony will not contact you in any way, including by email, asking for your credit card number, social security, tax identification or similar number or other personally identifiable information. If you are asked for this information, you can be confident Sony is not the entity asking. When the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services are fully restored, we strongly recommend that you log on and change your password. Additionally, if you use your PlayStation Network or Qriocity user name or password for other unrelated services or accounts, we strongly recommend that you change them as well.

To protect against possible identity theft or other financial loss, we encourage you to remain vigilant, to review your account statements and to monitor your credit or similar types of reports. We thank you for your patience as we complete our investigation of this incident, and we regret any inconvenience.

Our teams are working around the clock on this, and services will be restored as soon as possible. Sony takes information protection very seriously and will continue to work to ensure that additional measures are taken to protect personally identifiable information. Providing quality and secure entertainment services to our customers is our utmost priority. Please contact us at 1-800-345-7669 should you have any additional questions. Sincerely, Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Network Entertainment

So... who wants to trade a PS3 for a 360???

I'm honestly more concerned with why it took Sony a week to notify their customers that their personal information was stolen. Like DSP says, the PSN manager should be thrown out on the street along with his gak.

I've already changed the password for my linked email, and am monitoring my bank account.

If you want to hate on console owners, grow the feth up. We've all owned a console at one point or another. Where the hell else am I going to get to play fighting game with my friends?

Fair point, although thats what a blu-ray player is for.

I found the PS2, X-box and even the 360 never ran the films as smoothly as a DVD player, So I'd probably have a blue-ray player even if I had a PS3 anyways.

There was no plan they just revealed all on the BBC. A 17 year old hacker from Manchester United Kingdom has been arrested for a hack that left Call of Duty: Black Ops out of commission. The hack was described as a “Denial of service” attack which left many people unable to access the game on PC.

The attack was facilitated via a malicious program called “Phenom Booter”, which was also being offered for sale on a web forum which allowed those playing Call of Duty to score more points while stopping other people playing the game.

After tracking down the attacker via his I.P address, Activision contacted local police to have the teenager arrested. The hacker is now in custody and awaiting further assessment. The Call of Duty franchise remains one of the most hacked game franchises on the market, to the point that people even manage to utilize hacks in the console versions of the game. If you have been affected by any related hacks then share your experiences with us in the comments.

If Activision did this to a 17 year old I wonder what SONY will do to whoever did this.

Xbox exclusives are shooters and aside from Gears, they are not anything special. PS3 = Uncharted, Infamous, Killzone, Socom, Mag, Demons souls, etc etc etc

Well thanks for that truly...

I've seen people post about how they've changed their passwords and such. How does one change one's password for PSN log in when the network is down? I can't access my account from my PS3, so does anyone know how I might access my account elsewhere?

Little Big Planet yes, but he also forgot the two games made by the same company; Resistance and Ratchet and Clank both by Insomniac games. Then there's the true Metal Gear Solid series, well 4 was pushing it for me. Stupid credit system made me want to kill people to get points for their guns.

Hey don't forget the Fable series. *Tries to keep a straight face*

Heh, although all of those you mentioned and even Little Big Planet haven't been enough to tempt me yet. I am still waiting for something that makes it worth getting a PS3, and a Blu-ray player isn't enough as I already have one.

Disgaea is a possibility as I loved the PS2 games, and oddly for ME2, even though I've played it to death on the 360, I love the pick what happened in ME1 option for playthroughs without requiring playing ME1 first that comes with the PS3 version, as on the 360 all the choices are made for you if you start a fresh ME2 character which kinda sucks.
Obviously I'm waiting to see what happens at the moment, My brother who does have a PS3, not for any exclusives mind, he's just has every console available (I used to be the same until the PS3) isn't playing it much at the moment due to the issues and he agrees I should wait.

I've got to say that this news really bums me out. I currently have a 360 but was going to get a PS3 at some point in the next few months to pick up on all of the awesome system exclusives (God of War was my first M game... I've been crying on the inside that I still haven't played the third, and my girlfriend and I have an obsession with Little Big Planet) but I'm sad to say this makes me kind of hesitant to get one. I sincerely hope no one gets screwed over (credit card and information-wise, the lack of online is crappy enough) because of this whole deal.

I understand that we don't pay for it but we all expect a degree of security and if it was any paid for service i would have gone mental by now.

It's pretty obvious that the guy is acting (badly) outraged. The fact that he was almost laughing at points should have made it clear

Actually online gaming has become a staple of video games today. When a product is sold advertising free online gaming that is a selling feature of the system that people initially paid more for right off of the bat, so actually it IS what people paid for, just because it does not include a monthly fee does not mean this is what should be expected. When a company handles personal and private information of their clients they are expected to handle all information securely and confidently without error, especially payment information and billing addresses/phone numbers. Just because Xbox360 users pay a monthly fee does not make them superior to all other gamers despite what the 12-15 age group would like to believe. To tell you the truth, if party chat were to come onto psn there would be little difference between the two. All gamers are united in our passion and should never begin to squabble apples to apples when we are all essentially the same breed. Any ps3 users add me after this goes up ICEDOG1983, and for xbox gamers I'll be picking one up when Gears comes out and will post my tag then. Just my two cents on the whole thing anyway I'll cut the rant lol.

If I buy a game for my 360 or my PC or my PS3, they say nothing about a "monthly fee"--unless the game requires it, like in the example of a MMO.

The cost of the system, your internet connection, or the online service you're using to access the multiplayer portion(ex: Live or Playstation Network) is not the same thing as subscription based fees.

That actually has nothing to do with 360 users paying a monthly fee. The quality of the service, not the company and its data handling techniques, is what I'm referring to.

And enough of this "12-15 age group=Xbox" garbage. There's just as many squeaky voiced kids squealing in my ear when I play Killzone 2 as there is when I'm playing Halo: Reach.

Just so it's painfully obviously clear:

My statement of "you get what you pay for" is in regards to the service itself being 'downed' like it has.

It's slightly surprising to see the compromised account information, as the majority of times this is done it's someone being spiteful against the service.

Please do not attempt to compare KZ2 crowds to Halo crowds if you wish to be taken seriously, the fact that the system comes with a mic (xbox) means that more children will have access to one, I know and it sucks because I used to love gears online before the kiddies showed up all over it ( on a 18+ game no less lol )
Microsoft and nintendo have had similar issues, as as for quality of service, they both have their issues, one is not better than the other aside from party chat ( which is worth the 5 bucks a month imho )

Can't we all just get along? And kanluwen, do not mistake this for hostility, I LOVE people whose opinion differs from my own, you sometimes learn more that way...knowing is half the battle...yaddayaddayadda

Get what you pay for, my fundament. If a company asks you to entrust them with your credit card details, they are required by law to keep them safe. Choppy connections I could understand, but losing your financial details is not acceptable, free service or not.

You don't have all the facts, and have misread the article, the line above your post it says "may have been compromised".

There are roughly 10 million active credit cards tied to PSN accounts, they can't be sure whether the credit card database was accessed, but they don't believe that it was. (Source)

If they've failed to maintain the levels of security that they are required to do for storing financial records, and if those details are then compromised, the reimbursement would be for any money lost by customers, probably via claims made by banks that are out of pocket.

Remember the PS3 network has a option that is a paid for subscription service now called PlayStation Plus.

"These enhancements include the ability to have demos, game and system software updates download automatically to the PlayStation 3. Subscribers also get early or exclusive access to some betas, game demos, premium downloadable content and other PlayStation Store items as well as a free subscription to Qore. Users may choose to purchase either a one-year or a three-month subscription to PlayStation Plus."

So I think I am entitled to some sort of reimbursement. Sure it doesn't cost as much as xbox live but at one time it was $50.00 a year too. Of course if the network was down for only a month, it would be less than $5.00.

I actually had a guy at work say that SONY plans to get rid of online gaming completely so they won't have to deal with it. Good thing he's Back of House and not Electronics, the most likely thing they'll do if they change the system(which they indicated they won't change how people access it besides the password) is make it a monthly subscription. Anyways, they already have a rumored price drop from before and if it does occur people will say that they're just trying to get people to buy them again.

Anyways, snap up a PS3 on ebay from the people angry enough to sell them.

Actually the electronics supervisor told me about the WiiHD, he had the biggest smile on his face before we burst out laughing.

The other guy owns both a PS3 and a 360, but only got the PS3 because it was a holiday bundle missing a game so we were going to knock $50 off of it. That and the lady who brought it in was incredibly rude before and after she returned it. Her husband came back later to rebuy it, but seeing as though his wife was a total *ahem* we decided that we would let our coworker buy it.

So um, now Sony admits SoE gamers have been compremised as well.

Damn and I thought it was punishment enough to be still playing Star Wars Galaxies these days. Now your details are gone too. Ouchie.

Regardless, I believe it covers all their games SoE have done, so any Everquest, Everquest 2, Matrix Online, Planetside, Vanguard, DC Online and SoE facebook players should be aware.

Hmm, need to check myself, think I only did a free trial for Everquest 2, not 100%

edit - also, now that subscribers have been effected, will we see more cases aimed at Sony for their poor security?

Last, but most certainly not least, a ‘Welcome back’ program was announced. It’s basically Sony’s way of saying thank you to all those who have stuck out the downtime with a stiff upper lip. As of right now that means some (unspecified) free content from the Store that’s unique to each territory, 30 days of free PlayStation Plus membership (in other words, more free content from the Store) and free 30 day access to Qriocity, turning your PS3 into a streaming musical jukebox for a whole month.

Looks like we may be getting a little something-something afterall.

This could be very bad for Sony in terms of being compliant with storing card holder data, or their data center to be more specific. PCI compliance has incredibly high penalties for security breaches* were card holder data is compromised. Right now I would hope that the way this data was stored was reasonably well encrypted. You can probably figure that a company as large as Sony would have taken this step seriously to begin with.

It will probably be about $50 only. The rumor started after that GeoHotz guy found the rootkey for the PS3 and SONY said that they make a newer model that will be unhackable(mind you it took a little over 5 years to finally hack the system that way), the PSP dropped in price recently so maybe during the summer or right before fall.

Still with that price drop, the PS3 would be a 250 GB system with a Blu-Ray player for $299.99.

Even fifty dollars is pretty good to me, it's that much less money that I have to pay! It was seeming like a pretty sweet deal even without the price drop, there are quite a few games that I'm dying to get, not to mention that it would be nice for me to have my own blu-ray player for when I move out.

You could also wait for a nice sale, my store was giving away a $50 gift card for the store and a $20 PSN card if you bought a PS3. We had a similar deal for the 360's as well, $50 store card and a $19.99 Marketplace card.

Oh man, that would be sweet! I hope one arises soon, as if I need more things keeping me from painting, but I do love me some video games. My wallet is going to get seriously hit once I get a PS3, though.

God of War 1-3, Killzone 3 (can't decide if I should get 2 or not), Little Big Planet 1 and 2, Mortal Kombat, Resistance, Uncharted, Demon's Souls... Yeah. It's going to be a fun summer to stay indoors.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/04/30/press-release-some-playstation-network-and-qriocity-services-to-be-available-this-week/

The main points from the article:

PSN should be up by the end of the week(hopefully).
30 days of free PSN Plus membership.
30 days of free Music Unlimited from Qriocity.
Free content(hasn't been specified yet).

Nice little package with more to come, I mean I like getting free stuff. But the other cool thing is that PSN users will be getting free content from SONY and then getting PSN Plus which reduces the price on content and makes some things free.

Unfortunately not. http://www.pcworld.com/article/227393/playstation_network_down_indefinitely_again.html

The hackers have made a second attack, or a another group of hackers has attacked Sony Online Entertainment, meaning that the network is now down indefinately.

I heard that it was hacked again, but if the network got hacked again right after installing new security measures then it most likely is an inside job because there's no way it could happen that fast.

@Hazzer, no it wasn't just one 17 yeard old boy. All of that is just a myth because people want to rag on SONY for having bad security(mainly 360 fanboys who forgot the 2 week shutdown of Xbox live in christmas of 2007).

X-Box live got hacked bad by people who were banned.

On live, if you get banned they don't delete your account but place it in an unaccessible server. However, during an update they shut down the firewalls on the servers so they can update them. The hackers who were banned found out when the update was and wrecked their system for two weeks.

It seems like only console players feel the need to hack, don't know why.

I meant that for some reason hackers feel purposed to hack the consoles worse than the PC. Sure the PC has been hacked and modded, because they give you all the tools to do so, but for some reason console hackers feel the need to go further and shut down the ability to play online. You guys just don't get it, anonymous attacked sony because they decided to take legal actions against someone who wasn't really doing anything wrong, anonymous is the defender of information and equality on the internet. This is similar to the attack on scientology, which I supported because they were breaking the law and violating their believer's rights. I lost faith when they decided to attack visa and amazon, during the operation: leakspin because it put american soldiers and innocent lives at risk. Anonymous is more than angry kids, they claim to be your neighbors, the mailman, the frycook at wendy's, the IT guy at the library, etc., they even claim you are anonymous. I'm not going to tell you how it started, but sony shut down PSN during the attacks to prevent others from sharing the information on how to jailbreak your ps3, they've even tracked ip addresses of people who visited his site to press charges on them, just face it, sony is another greedy corporation who believes everything should be profitable, take this example: if someone discovered there was a way to assemble plastic and metal models using common household things, and be superior to glue, GW would have a problem, and they would silence this person because it would mean less profit, because they don't just want your money from the models, tools, accessories, but every little thing in the hobby, thi is exactly like sony, who doesn't just want profit from the systems, games and accessories, and what-not, but other applications as well. I have a feeling this is the beginning of the sony op, just remember their saying:

Informatin is free
Knowledge is free
Arm yourself

Oh we get it. That was my point all along. However it was still against the terms and conditions. Jailbreaking a PS3 to use non accessible programs that are on the PS3 is still not legal. I don't agree with sony suing the guy but when it comes to the law, lots of things are unfair.

Oh we get it. That was my point all along. However it was still against the terms and conditions. Jailbreaking a PS3 to use non accessible programs that are on the PS3 is still not legal. I don't agree with sony suing the guy but when it comes to the law, lots of things are unfair.

Information is free, and, while it isn't legal to do, it is

Sorry about the cut off, anyways:

It is unethical to deny information for those willing, as long as nobody's lives are ruined, but, anonymous is not responsible for PSN being shut down, that's sony's doing.

This should clear things up about anonymous:

This is similar to the attack on scientology, which I supported because they were breaking the law and violating their believer's rights. I lost faith when they decided to attack visa and amazon, during the operation: leakspin because it put american soldiers and innocent lives at risk.

Anonymous is a bunch of ass hats who think they have some power because they're good with computers. They hide behind a guise of "fighting for equality on the internet" but as soon as you realize that everyone is not equal then you'll see past it. I don't deserve to know that SONY has non-stick discs if they decide to keep it a secret as much as SONY lacks the right to know the secret mix of soft drinks I put into a Suicide at McDonald's.

Really now, a company wants to make money off of something that they researched, developed, marketed, produced, and shipped? Who would ever think that was what companies did? Seriously, SONY made the PS3 and owns the copyright and patents on the internal workings of that PS3 so cracking it open and looking at what makes the PS3 tick and then fiddling with it goes against their patent and copyright.

Companies are in a thing called a 'free market' system which means that they're free to do what they want to make money, if you don't want them to have your money then use the last remaining ounce of free will they left you after the brainwashing program to not buy their products. I could care less about jailbreaking my PS3 and I'm perfectly happy with SONY's product, what I'm not happy with is a bunch of people too afraid to give their names threatening the company and making them shut down the network.

I guess they are ass-hats, but, then again, consider where they come from, 4chan.org, an imageboard with no redeeming qualities. I honestly don't care about the ps3's inner tickings, but if people want to know let them know, it's not like somebody's going to make a generic ps3 or anything.

As for anonymous, if you read my first post, I agreed with them when they were trying to expose scientology, but when the wikileaks incident happened, I lost respect for them, but you have to know what they are, they are just another group of activists, just like peta.

As for me, I have a name, I don't care to learn to hack, because I've got better things to do with my time. The only reason I know as much is because I keep a track on current events. I don't care for 4chan because it's a collossal waste of time, I work for a living, so I don't spend much time on the web, I believe that when stating facts, I should try to remain neutral, and apologise if I implied that I was for anonymous, as that is not the case, while I believe certain information should be available to the public(inner tickings of the ps3), I also believe that some things should be kept secret(military info, C.I.A intel, etc.). I also admit, if X-box live became attacked, I too would be pissed.

I hate PETA and they're just 30 minutes from my house. I plan on having a barbecue during the winter in front of their headquarters. Why winter you ask, because then we can all wear our fur coats.

I got so bored with my other games that I picked up a copy of Sims 3 for my PS3. Not a bad game, especially with the house design feature.

I currently have Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini in a house shaped like a Swastika.

I plan on making a house with Winston Churchill and FDR in a house shaped like the star that they painted on the side of US tanks.

Then maybe a house with Osama Bin Laden in the shape of Mohammed.

If anonymous is the defender of information, then they should not be hacking into it. Information is not free. There is such a thing as having confidential information.
Taking other people's private information is just stupid and a d*** move. To do what with it anyway? So you can know what your neighbour's phone number is? Or rather to get his credit card number and steal his money...?

Whoever launched the attack that made SONY shut down the network should pay.

and they admit to it

Hmm... No, usually Anonymous puts out some sort of press release that they did whatever it was. So far this time, nothing.

There are two possible scenarios:

A) Someone took advantage of Anonymous' attack as cover for their own move.
B) It was an inside job and Sony is pointing the finger at anonymous to dodge the massive lawsuit that they would get hit with if it came out it was an inside job.

People are complaining so much about this. You haven't even considered playing a game offline for once? I have no access to online play except at the library (I have a laptop), so I've been stuck with no xbox live or anything forever. Offline games are still fun.

Heck, this might even have a good side, because it could make people actually play a game for fun (campaign) instead of focussing only on their stupid rankings.

That would bring gamers into contact with other human beings, and raises the possibility of them discovering that the real world has superior 'jiggle physics' compared to games.

I totally agree. Online multiplayer gaming pisses me off just as much as 3D movies. I don't mind it when the content is appropriate, but here any more it seems like developers are forcing it into games. Heck game informer last month did there usual "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly". They thought it was bad that Batman Arkham City didn't have multiplayer.

While playing Fable III last night I stumbled across 2 demon doors that wanted me to bring another hero to them. I shouldn't have to do that crap in a single player game.

I love FPS games but I hate FPS multiplayer. Games like black ops and stuff are all about multiplayer, the campaign is like an afterthought that takes a whole 6 hours to finish... big waste of cash for me, glad it was a xmas gift This is the reason I haven't gotten Killzone 3 yet, gonna wait a while till the price drops or the ultimate kilrathi edition comes out in a year with all the DLCs for free

And just when we thought it was back up and all happy again, SONY realized their security regarding passwords was gak. I tried changing my password at school, but the cursed firewall stopped me, and when I got home, it was too late. So I'm still stuck with no online gaming for another while.

The thing about online gaming is that it offers a new aspect of the game and a chance to measure yourself against other players. Personally, I only start going online when I'm halfawy through the solo mode.

The only problem is that I bought Demon's Souls right after the hack. As this game is supposed to be played online at all times, I was a bit cheesed at online gaming loss.
