Hey Everyone!
Since I have started getting numerous requests to see some of my armies I have decided to start a blog and share some of my adventure.
If you are unaware I have, over the last 2 years, come out of a hiatus I took from painting and modelling. This was mostly due to tyrant of an x-wife (yup mistakes happen lol) who looked at my *man dolls* as nothing but a waste of time and resources.
That however has never stopped me from collecting models, keeping current with the rules and playing the odd game here and there.
These days I try to have at minimum 1 game a week and when I have time as many as possible!
When I came out of my hiatus I realized something a little offputting. Looking at my armies I noticed that I had painted the majority of them when I was between the ages of 14 and 16 . Since then my painting skills have improved massively! I have done a few characters here and there but have never had the time to complete them.
That left me with 2 things. 1: a massive pile of mostly pewter sub parly painted mini's and 2: lots of unfinished business!
I have spent the last year stripping, assembling, fixing broken models and digging through piles of bits for creative inspiration! Well, that and buying more models for my collection!.
Here are a few pics of the current state of affairs to get everyone started!
My game cave
SOme of my brothers Ork's that live at my house
My Aurora Chapter
Aurora CHapter sharing a shelf with Tau
More Tau
The Nids
And Finally some of my Chaos
Some of my Terminators
Some of my tanks and bigger models (in case you are wondering the unpainted tanks are assembled so that the tops come off to paint the interior before final gluing)
The Cult Troops and Lesser Daemons
Some of my tropps
And now into the WIP's ... lot's of them
My pile of half assebled/stripped stuff
The Dip... the never ending bucket of Simple Green. It may not look it but there are probably 40 models in there
Some model that I assembled at work that got damaged in transit ( I live at work for 2 weeks out of the month, fly in fly out)
One of my bitz binz
Some models organized into bitz to assemble. Can you see all 3 greater demons in this box?? lol. SOme of these are also waiting parts form the dip
Here are a few of the models I have painted over the years that I decided no to strip. Sorry about the crap lighting in the pictures, It's something I need to work on for next time!
Scout Sniper
A chaos lord (I just recently ripped him off of an old oversize scenic base)
Kharn
One of my new painting projects, Abbadon and a scenic base I painted up / added bitz to
My airbrush... the godsend of all base coating devices big and small! It's only a middle of the road one but I couldn't get by without it!
A few of my conversion projects
A chaos Lord in terminator armour, he may not look like much but he is massivly greenstuffed and except for his LC arm is solid pewter lol
(sry bout the blurry pic)
A daemon prince built from an inquisitor model. Works out perfectly in scale! lots of work left here!
Well, that's about it for now guys and gals!
As you can see I really have my work cut out for me! Here is my plan so far:
1: finish stripping all the models that need it
2: assemble everything I have to a high standard
3: base coat and paint the base of all of the models I have
4: squad by squad bring them up to a good table top standard
5: do nicer paint work on characters and squad leaders
6: squad by squad bring the painting standard of my army up
Why does it make me tired and wired at the same time thinking about it! All I know is it will be an adventure! and I will have to squeeze a few games in in the middle of it!
Thanks for looking!

Good luck painting all of those models up, thats going to be a lot of man hours.
Looking forward to your progress. which army are you going to start on or are you going to jump between them so your not always painting the same type of models.

My main focus will be My Chaos oarmy but I usually jump over to one of the otehrs when I feel I need a change of pace!
I also have a pile of old scenery that i've been sorting through and remaking. Scavenging good parts like buildings/trees/barrels/tank traps etc and making them into real terrain again!
I think that's the toughest part of this whole project. I have so many models and terrain pieces that I thought were a great Idea when I was 15 and now they at a very minimum need an overhaul
I should be uploading a few more pics tonight, not much in the way of update but something
I have done a lot of work since these pics but am not able to take new ones until next week when I get home! Can't wait to share my progress lol!
geza55- thanks! i'm going to need the luck Automatically Appended Next Post: Got a few more pics uploaded! I'm on a satellite connection in the middle of nowhere so it's about as fast as dial up
The back of the Sniper form the previous post:
My land speeder
One of my Hive Tyrants
When I saw this the other day I was blown away lol.... I have been playing this game a long time
The difference in scale blows me away
Soooooo First order of business.... Take better pictures! I wil have to make a light box or something! the lighting in my game cave is way too cave like!
When I get back to civilization I will be uploading some pics of my new projects!
I have 10 noise marine terminators and 2 squads of 5 thousand sons terminators on the go! some fun conversions for sure!

I have been busy in the last couple weeks working away at things but sadly do not have a lot of pics
I picked this little gem of a sculpt up on ebay a couple weeks back and wanted to share it:
I was super impressed with the quality of resin work on this model! completely bubble free and amazingly detailed! I only wish I knew who sculpted it
Regardless, it's goign to look great beside my Kabuki Primarchs. Too bad they are all very low on the list of painting priorities >.<
I also wanted to share some pictures of a fun 4 player game I played the last time I was at home.
1850pts, chaos vs grey knights vs orks vs vanilla marines (aurora chapter)
The scenario we played had a primary and a secondary objective. 1 Hold the building in the centre of the table. If the building was contested it went tocontrol of table quarters determined by higest # of scoring units in each table quarter.
Super fun scenario and perfect for a free for all!
Turn 1:
Turn 2: Orks charge CSM, Aurora chapter goes after GN
Turn 3: Orks wipe defilers, CSM Sorcerors control the table centre, everyone charges the middle
Yes, this did actually happen... the die sat like this until we picked it up lol
Turn 4: Vehicles down all over and troops flooding the table. A rush for the centre is made!
End of turn 4: After a mass of shooting and brutal combat in the centre all that remains is 20 CSM's They shot Drago to death, wiped an 8 man terminator assault squad and a mob of 12 boys without a wound . Truly the stars of the game in a late "Hail Mary" Push for the win!
Hopefully I can get soem shots of some of the work I have been doing. I kit bashed (with all sorts of old metal bitz) 2 winged soreceror lords of slannesh and filled out/ base coated 3 full squads of plague marines. Also base coated 20 Plague bearers, 3 nurgle rhino's and a whack of other stuff.

I have a few things on the go this week.
I bought myself a warhound titan as a birthday present a couple weeks back and am I the process of cleaning and assembling it. Pics to follow when I get home from work!
I am also working on some Ork conversions, Painting Abbadon and as always assembling more of my fresh from the dip chaos models!
I hope to give everyone a proper update soon and hopefully one of these days someone will respond so I can stop talking to myself lol

Sorry for not updating in a million bazillion years everyone!
I haven't had much time to dedicate to the hobby due to too many hours at work >.<... I will have a few updates later today and then some more extensive ones in 2 weeks!
I should have some warhound build pics up soon too

So I've got a few things on the go these days.
Firstly I've finally decided what I will be running at the 2500 Pt level which means I have some good direction as to what to start painting first!
Here is where I am so far:
Painting this army will be on the top of my painting priority for the next while. Having some direction should help me move forward a little faster
I've also gone and picked up 2 Warhound Titans So far I have trimmed and washed one of the two and this is how far I've made it on assembly so far.
I really need to stop working so much and start playing a little more!

My whole tyranid army minus the new releases is of that vintage
They are all from the first time I got into this game in the mid 90's
Come to think of it probably 70% of my entire collection is from that era

Haha! yeah I started painting them about 15 years ago and then they sat in a box for a long long time!
I need to update the pics here aswell! I have bought a few new units to expand this to an army capable of fielding 2500pts.
That is my new goal with all of my armies. Get a playable force @ the 2500pt level and start by painting that. Chaos first, aurora chapter second and then either Tau or Nids.. haven't decided yet...
I need smaller goals or more time at home or little helper monkies Automatically Appended Next Post: bunnygurl wrote:That is a nice sized Chaos army my friend, and a great looking game cave if I may add. I was supposed to have a game cave too...but my mother moved into it. -_-

Thanks! I love the chaotic spikey buggers
It took me years to carve out a decent spot I need to take some more pics too I've rearranged it quite a bit! ohhhh parents and invading useful game space! If you were a little closer I would say drop by and borrow mine
It is quite the sexy leg isn't it... now where did I put it's friend....s....
I can't wait to be home in 6 days so I can host and post some of my progress!

Me too. Anything with a stabby bit is good in my books.
When I bought my house it had the perfect area for a game cave, just need some paint and flooring, but...sigh. Pay for my plane ticket and I'll gladly come by.
Wish my legs looked that good.

Sooooo It looks like I finally get a few minutes to do a few updates here! Here's what I've been up to in the last couple months when I haven't been working I started building a Flasgitz for the Waaaagh Dakka: Some basic Kit Bashing Now getting a little more into it I've gotten a little further than this but for the time being this project is on pause. One of these days I will spend the last couple hours it will need to assemble! I have a number of parts fit up, shaped and built for it but it's going to be a jigsaw puzzle so I'll need to spend some time at it I spent some time on one of my two warhounds: The raw deal After a couple hours of watching some season of something on dvd. The bag on the left is the scraps >.<.. In hindsight I'm sad I didn't keep more of them as they would have made excellent terrain! Then on to several hours of fine trimming, removing mould lines and then washing is a warm water and dish soap solution Fitting up the upper seciton to see where I have to trim (looks like I hadn't trimmed all of the hull yet) Where the first warhound is sitting until I get enough other junk sorted out to start work on it again :( Soon mr. warhound soon! I've also been doing a lot of reorganizing, cleaning, assembling and in general getting my poop in a group: I reorganized my chaos shelves after putting the whole enchalada out on the table, here is one of the fun shelves with a few more models than were on the table before I spent some time organizing my Aurora Chapter aswell: here are some of the new space marine additions (as if I need more crap lol) Land speeder, I have 3 more to assemble after this I picked up this funky RT Librarian in Power Armour because I didn't really like any of the currently available models Also got a few of these bad boys but they are far from complete... I wish they were plastic or finecast >.< (the new school is spooiling me) Also grabbed one of these for my term assault squad It may seem a little random but I settled on a 2500pt list and had to fill in a few gaps. No more space marines for me to buy, hopefully ever (yeah right ) I also picked up a few additions to finish off my 2500pt Tyranid list: I actually assembled all of these yesterday but don't have a camera with me to show everyone Now the only outstanding army I have to deal with is the Tau... and I don't think they are going to see a huge amount of love until they get a better codex I have however decided on a coulour scheme and will take a few pics of some test models the next time I have a chance! Some more of my brothers Ork's have moved in aswell: My titan competiton,.. well without his arms connected as we have been trying a few diferrent ways to magnetize them. There is a second one on the way but I don't have a pic of it (wow I really do need to do this in better light) I also moved a bunch of my bitz and medelling supplies into a cupboard that previously housed boxes of books This made life alot simpler! Now onto the Chaos: I started basing my 2500pt list I couldn't resist picking 2 of these up when I saw them... My first finecast! Compared to the pewter the detail and ease of assembly is amazing. On the other side of that coin I still don't know how I feel about the air bubbles >.< (not many but filling them is going to be annoying) This kit also came with 2 torso's and 2 heads... I'm going to have to find something to do with them in the future! (only 1 shown here) Bing, Bang, Boom togeather in no time flat and off he goes to join the Bloodthirter Family! I almost have enough to field a Bloodthirster Bloodbath unit! That's all for now Thanks for looking everyone! Hopefully I have some more time to dedicate to modelling in the next month or two so I have a few more cool things to post!

Quick update,
I have been assembling random miniatures I have sitting in a box post *dip* as well as a few other newer things.
Here is what I have done whiel at work over the last couple days:
4x metal chaos terminator
2x finecast Broodlord
1x chaos lord with jump pack and lightning claws
1x chaplain /w jump pack
1x RT nurgle lord on palenquin (such a cool model)
and I think a few other things that aren't coming to me here.
I also have several havocs and a few space marines and a greater demon to assemble while I'm out here

It was a sad day today... I ran out of super glue at work with 7 days to go and only 1/2 the models I brought with assembled !
It turns out 3 of the 4 tubes of glue I brought out had been opened and were less than full to say the least!

I would give my left leg for some glue or paint right now!
I finished reading my last book and broke a guitar string and have no spares lol! I't going to be a long 5 more days
This box should be empty of parts by now!
I'll survive... Only 5 more days of blogging to myself

I got the legs 100% together ready for base coat:
I also got the upper torso assembled to the point where it can be base coated. Here it is fit togeather:
It's really in a few pieces still so I can detail the interior before final assembly:
and It actually fits together so well that I was able to get a preview of the future!
I'm so stoked right now! I can't wait to put some paint on this bad boy tomorrow!

Right my friend, you will never blog alone. As you have stumbled across my Pre-heresy Iron hands, I have a policy of always checking out others threads.
I think we must have be seperated at birth, being a Mariner I am always away and it annoys the hell out of me. I have spare time at sea but no mini's, or no glue, or something missing or it's blowing a Bast*rd so I couldn't make a model if I tried.. It's annoying and I share your frustrations. I wish I lived in Canada, partly because I went on Honeymoon there and partly (and secretly well from the wife anyway) so I can get my hands on the Miracle that is Simple green. Oh and I am totally jealous of what I am guessing is your gaming basement. Oh and finally Kudo's on the 1st Blog on Dakka to featuring a Warhound. I will be following your blog with interest and sense of mutual support.. lol

I managed to get 1/2 of my pictures uploaded last night
Here are the first group of pictures I have from the 4 way 2000pt battle that took almost 7 hours to finish!
Tyranids(me) VS Orks VS Necrons VS Sisters of Battle.
Deployment
Start of round two, notice how many Tyranids are missing? I got trucked in round one by all 3 opponents and never recovered >.<
And the fun starts at the other end of the table
And back to the piles of fun at the other end of the table I must have pissed everyone off because I was getting hit from all sides
Bombs away!!!
Enter Trygon And goodbye warriors >.@
Notice th lack of second monolith?? Good old zoanthropes!
Also notice the lack of trygon? Damn melta missles from across the table >.<
More to come once I get pics uploaded! damn satelite internet!
36934
Post by: logg_frogg
At the other end of the table Sisters with flamers make short work of the truck mounted boy!
Gene Sneakers are being sneakery and hiding in the bushes until orks get close enough to pounce on
The broodlord cleaned out squad of immortals on his own before they stood back up and started shooting him in the back!
Gene sneakers VS Boys. Once again the broodlord managed to flatten the pile of them, but it was too late!
I don't play my tyranids very often but this game taught me a lot about their strengths and weaknesses in the current printing... well mostly about their weaknesses...
After four gory turns the victory (we settled via victory points) went to the Sisters of battle by a landslide as they went last and very efficiently mopped up everyone elses mess
In the future I will definitly be playing a much different tyranid build
One of the other games I played was against my brother. I played my Tau and he played my Aurora Chapter leaving us both out of our element.
This is after turn one, One landraider down but a whole army of mech closing in:\
From the other end
SOme brave Krut attacking terminators from the brushline.
Thye took one terminator out shooting....... but the inevitable happened >.<
And this is where the game unfortunately had to end.
The tau were in very bad shape after not having much luck shooting down the marines and my brother and I were distracted by going out for the midnight release of MW3
I conceded as it was soon to be a slaughterfest!
After this I got one more game in before I left but I don't have any pictures of it.
I played my chaos VS some very cheesy Grey Knights but managed to stomp them into the ground after 5 rounds regardless of the daemon hate!
4 days and I can post up some more warhound pictures!

I know exactly what you mean! The second I saw the Proteus model it was instant nostalgia! I was never able to buy one of the old style land raiders when I was younger because every single one that was allocated to the only GW dealer in town was scooped up as soon as it hit the shelves by older people with more $$$. I've since thought about buying a second hand one but have never liked the difference in scale. The proteus really filled that gap for me. Ask and ye shall receive!
Here are the 2 pics of the little bit of progress I got done on my Waround. Realistically it's not a lot but it makes it look quite a bit better already!
I still have a lot of work to do to finish the base coat o gold and then some more to add depth to it. I can't wait to see how fun this looks with proper shading and weathering!
I also took a few shots of the Proteus with some Chaos Undivided doors beside a normal Land Raider to show a scale comparison
I also realized that I don;t think I have ever posted pictures of my land raider that I painted over 10 years ago This was my very first LR that I scooped from a Space Marine Mega Force before it was available separately! I then modified it with a pile of chaos tank bits that now come standard in the LR kit
The inside is actually painted in extreme detail but I don;t have a good enough camera to take a picture of it!
Here they are again being towered over by the Warhound
I also saw this model on ebay and absolutely had to have it for no other reason than it is completely absurd !
And that's about that for my time off this run!
I do however have several models with me at work to assemble and will be keeping everyone posted
Thanks for tuning in!

The Warhound is begging for 30 minutes of anything I need to open the cockpit up and paint the interior so I can finalize assembly and get on to the making it look awesome!
Hopefully I will have some time to spend on it after the holidays are over!

I've gotten a few things done here at work in the last couple days.
And what do you make out of this pile of bits?
Why It's a land speeder!
And I trimmed, prepped and fit up a pile of these Forge World bad boys

old water transfers
A bunch of mid 90's sticker banners
and some neat old guns. old pattern bolters, hand flamers, las pistols, ect

Wow, just wow!
The scale of which you work on this hobby is just amazing.. Makes it suck to be young and cashless! No matter, in time I might get up to your level
Until then I'll just keep my Tau WAY away from them all! The atlantic ocean will hopefully do that rather well well...
The Titan is great, can't wait to see more pics of it as it slowly (but quite surely, I will grant you) transforms into the horrible mechanized herald of death it will undeniably become!

Haha! Thanks!
Yeah the scale is a little overwhelming, but Iguess thats what happens when you play for 20 years >.<
This week I should have some time to finally put some more paint on my titan..... I just have to get my airbrush working!

Got my airbrush working, It was a plugged air passage that paint had found it's way into.
I got a lot done in the last 2 weeks and will be updating this thread as soon as I have time
36934
Post by: logg_frogg
Well here goes nothing! I figured I would at least get started on my update of what I have done over the last 2 weeks.
I finally got my airbrush working again! I found a blocked air passage and once I cleaned the thinner than a hair layer of paint off of it the brush worked like it was new!
Now that I know where the problem is I can clean it while I work as I notice the air pressure falling off!
I was also able to crank the PSI down quite a bit and still get the same coverage.
That airbrush stand was the best $25 ebay purchase ever!
I managed to slam out a whole pile of my Aurora Chapter
Here is what I banged out in 2 sittings:
I also base coated all of this but didn't take a picture of it before I put it back on the shelf
Here is what my Aurora Chapter looks like on the shelf now.... Me thinks it needs a bigger shelf!
That's it for now... I have a lot more to update but my lunch break is over!

Post by: logg_frogg
I also had some time to dig through my bitz boxes and put a few models togeather that have made it out the other end of the *dip* or have been sitting around waiting for some love:
Old plastic PM
And a few of his friends that will form another PM squad
I assembled some havocs, and the ever iconic DA's captain that graced the cover of so many books back in the day
Some aspiring champs /w power fists and a few random marines
I love this old Sorceror on DIsk. The backpack is an addition of course
His friend the lord of change (minus one part that must still be in the dip)
And finally the start of my Necromuda Gang. They will probably eventually double as Traitor guard, but regardless they are going to be fun to muck around with
I know everyone wants a big warhound update, but I haven't had the time to sit down and work on it. I have however started scheaming about how I am going to do interchangeable arms
The next time I'm at home I'm going to tackle this! Hopefully the results are as great as they look in my head!
I also decided what I am going to do with my Primarch Models. I've had the idea for a while that I want to make them look like they are on stands being projected as holograms.
I'm going to bulid the stands for them and then start using them as objective markers
I still have some battle pictures to post here, but that's it for the painting and modelling for the moment. I have a couple tanks with me at work that I will post pictures of but nothing exciting

Oddly enough I actually have a whole squad of *fallen angels* to build for Cypher's retinue
I wonder if Cypher will make an appearance in 6th...
The necromunda gang is sort of a backburner thing. I played a few games a couple months back and really liked it so I figured I would build a few gangers with modular arms and have some fun with it
Maybe I'll get around to posting some battle pictures today

Just got back into the flow of things and thought i'd check in with some familiar faces!
All looking rather fan-dabby-dosey in here! Loving the battle reports!
Also very keen to see some more pics of the Warhound.
Also, regarding the tau FW drones. Which book are the rules in for those? I have the FW Apoc books but they're not in those! Any info would be greatly appriciated as I was looking to get some for my own tau!

I actually had to look it up! Apparently the rules for the Tau special drones are in IA 3 : THE TAROS CAMPAIGN
The particular ones I bought are Marker drones and are actually in the Tau codex They look extremely huge next to standard GW drones lol.
I'm very keen to make some more pics of the warhound! When I get home in 10 days it will be my first modelling priority!
Always nice to see returning faces in here! Thanks for the visit and stay tuned!

So I figured I owed Dakka the battle report I promised.
The details are a little fuzzy now but there are lots of pictures so hopefully that makes up for it
The Skinny:
4 player game, randomly rolled teams, each player brought 1850pts to the game.
I brought my Chaos to the table, my brother brought out his Orks, and 2 friends brought grey knights and Necrons.
after the random roll it was Chaos + Orks vs. Necrons + Grey Knights
We played a capture and hold scenario with 4+d3 points. a 5 was rolled so 7 points were placed
Long table side deployment was chosen with a 24" dead mans land
Roll to go first/deploy first was won by the Chaos/Ork team and forces were deployed:
Much of the necron force was deployed in reserve and initiative was not seized
A few shots of the key points at deployment:
Orks and Chaos push forward led by a battlewagon and stormboyz
The other end
After an uneventful first turn the counter strike comes
end of turn 1, after we got back from a food run.
Boyz clash with scarabs after they have their truck eaten
eep (typhus is an objective marker. all of the markers are neat miniatures)
Some death cult assassins come out to play along with their shield bearing friends
Scarabs clash with Kans
Stormboyz get Stormed
End of turn 2
Power weapons prevail
Necrons start to pop up
A demon prince breaks through to the other side
an overview
Necrons come to play in the bushes
Unfortunnately from here on in the game got really intense and I didn't take enough pictures
Here is the table at the end of the game
Post Battle discussion
Chaos and Orks were victorious! We took the center of the table and managed to push back into their ranks for the entire game. Us forcing them to be on he defensive allowed us to control the flow of the game and gave us a definitive victory!
*wipes forehead* Hope everyone enjoyed that!

The GK Player has a fully painted SoB army, but has been playing GK's because it's the only way he can fiels his inquisitorial army right now.
My bro is new to the game and is painting away all the time, 6 months and he'll be painted out.
The necron player also has a fully painted army except for the new codex stuff.
But yeah, we enjoy playing too much to let painting stop us form doing it.
I really have to get on finishing my 2500pt army >.<
I'm going to be on to project *finish spikey bitz on tanks and base coat all tanks* the next time I'm home from work.

I can always trust my Dakka Brothers and sisters to make me laugh when I come back here!
So here goes
I picked up this little machine here to see if it would help me with stripping mini's
So I figured I would start with this as my first victim
And the regular magic liquid as the paint remover
Set the time... turn on the heater...
And here goes nothing....
480 seconds later and a little steamy
I pulled it up out of the liquid and nothing magical happened
Only a small amount of pant had been removed
so I put the basket back down into the now very warm pool of simple green
and I added a well soaked model to see what it would do
That is actually a picture of the model after it had gone through the cycle. If you look closely you can see that the paint on the surface is rippled.
Paint was also starting to come off the tank body.
Since the ultrasonic by it's self was not removing large amounts of paint I decided to give the models a quick brushing:
Some paint came off the tank
The metal pieces on the other hand both stripped very easily, I was actually able to wipe a large amount of the paint off with just my finger.
The ease with witch the paint came off blew me away. Especially out of the deep crevices that would normally need a pick to even move.
More to come!

Yeah it seems to speed the process up more than anything.
I've also done some modelling and base coating in the last 2 days.
I layed down base coat on my brother's stompa and battle wagon.
And then since I had red in my airbrush I decided to tackle a few Khornate buggers
I painted the blood slaughterer impailer I built yesterday
Lord Zuhfor and Khorne terminator friends
A lord, a few bezerkers and Angron
I also helped my brother out a but by trying my hand at scuplting some green stuff to make a cybork face as part of a warboss conversion from an Inquisitor model.
I tried to make his skill look leathery and loose like it didn't quite fit his face anymore. My brother also didn't want teeth in his mouth.
It was quite a bit of fun working with the GS again and it makes me want to finish one on my Daemon Prince conversions from a different inquisitor model

Simple Green works quickly on metal but seems to take several iterations to clean plastic. On the plus side, you can soak and resoak and resoak plastic and it doesn't get warped in Simple Green.

Yeah, That's why I keep using it. You can leave models in it for months and not have to worry about them. At worst it will take the shine off of metal models. I find it only does this if you put them back in for a second dip after scrubbing.

That's quite the amazing little gadget you have there.
My experience w/ Simple Green is that it needs a bit of muscle no matter how long it sits. A friend of mine put a WFB plastic Giant in a jar of simple Green and left it there for almost 6 months the paint was still stuck on.
Simple Green for metal is (mostly) amazing. For plastic... eh. It's not horrible (it works better than beer for example) but in the end there's still work to be done.

So with a little more effort I found that the Ultrasonic cleaner worked exceptionally well!
This time around I cycled the machine on once every couple hours and let the models soak over night in the cycled solution.
The results turned out to be quite amazing!
Right away you can see in the milky simple green how much paint was being removed by the process
I managed to make fast work of a number of models. The paint was so loose that it was more like *brushing* that *scrubbing* to remove the paint.
What amazed me most is how clean these models got with such minimal effort.
I was able to strip a massive amount of models in quite a short time because my hands no longer get tired from scrubbing!
More to come~! Automatically Appended Next Post: Emperors_Champion wrote:Nice progress and as always, full of useful hobby tips! . . . Hmm. . . Maybe you should have your own TV show?

Here are a few more pics of some of the modelling that I did when I was home over the last 2 weeks.
I assembled a number of Havocs and some random dudes
I also did about 15 more of these but they didn't make it into a picture for some reason
A few close ups of the FW missle launchers. The backpacks def presented some fun modelling challenges but I managed to get things to work
Tossed a few freshly stripped eldar models togeather
oh, apparently I lied, I found a picture of a few more of the Havocs, still not all of them
I also picked up a few second hand FW models for my brothers Orkpocalypse Waaaagh
now I get to see how well simple green works on resin
I snapped a quick pic of the on eof the 2 bridges I got from Pegasus games. Super easy to assemble and will look good once they are painted up.
I base coated and clipped a massive stack of GW palm trees in preparation for some jungle terrain I'm working on
I also started blocking out colour with my airbrush on the awesome FW piece I picked up a while back.
And started working with some GW barbed wire that I picked up months ago.
Here is what it looks like fresh out of the package
and here is the start of what I am doing with it. This is one length stretched and glued to plasticard.
I'm quite a bit further along than this but I didn't get a chance to take any pics before I had to leave for work.
Soooo "project clean out my closet/bitzboxes" seems to be going quite well. All this must seem random to everyone out there but I have a pile of stuff that I need to get out of storage and out in the open assembled so I know what I'm truly up against!
This week I will be doing up a Battle Report from a 4 player 2500pt each random teams capture and hold game I played last weekend. I also brought a bunch of space marines up to work with me and will be posting my progress as I assemble them.
Thanks for tuning in!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Here is a quick preview of the big game I had last week.
The teams ended up being Necrons + Space Marines VS Sisters of Battle + Chaos Space Marines
The lignes at the begining of the game:
Crons + Marines
Chaos + Sistas
purely epic!

You're on hyperdrive! Nice to see some terrain projects mixed in with all of that Chaos!!
That sonic device did some great work! I'm especially impressed that it cleaned the plastic models.
The battle looks like fun. No comments on the painting...

I'm hoping to continue my hyperdrive modelling kick while at work this time. I got ambitious and brought a SM Megaforce and 15 AoBR Marines with me to assemble into future Green Marines. I will be using the models to fill out gaps in my current force by outfitting them with hvy weapons, plasma guns, melta guns, power fists etc.
I have 17 guys assembled so far and can't wait to get back at it after work today!

Soooo here goes the rest of the battle report that I previewed.
Chaos and Sisters deployed first and go first.
The mission is capture and hold with 9 objectives.
Turn 1 moving
We had a very uneventful turn one followed by the Marines/Necrons giving us a bit of a pummeling
Vindicator was lost after a single round of shooting.
The middle of the table also tightened up.
On turn 2 the battle for the middle of the table and our *left flank* started to get interesting
The living saint heads up the charge after a squad of deathmarks lead by a special character port in behind them.
By the end of our turn 2 there were tanks carcases everywhere
The start of their turn 2
our opponets put on the push
Deathmarks decide not to die
A failed deep strike leaves 4 marines dead
heavy fighting starts
by the start of turn 3 there are troops on foot piled out of tanks all over!
And shortly after this is unfortunately where the game ends
The marines/necrons cenceded to us as there was no hope of them winning. By the end of our turn 3 we held 5 points, contested 3 and had 2 more in our sights to contest.
Not the most exciting game as our opponents made a few key errors that allowed our strategy to move them away from the capture points and hold our line.
On the plus side both of our opponents learned new things about the armies they were fielding.

Did you miss that Chaos was aligned with the inquisition? lol
Even with the 3 game quitzies it wasn't a short game by any means. We still got in a good 5 hours of play time Too much talking and not enough playing
Also a few of the combats got rediculously complicated in regards to asigning hits and wounds

So while I have been at work I have been bashing out the SM megaforce as well as the 15 AOBR marines I brought with me for this run. I am using the marine bodies coupled with a box of bitz to try and fill out some of the gaps I have in my army as far as sergents, heavy weapons, melta guns and Plasma Guns. So far I have 30 guys assembled in various configurations and will try to post up some pics later tonight if I can get them to upload on my slow connection

That sounds like a good use of extra AOBR minis. Thankfully, those things are fairly cheap.

That 'Nid horde looks intimidating.
Did you know that you can change the color of your miniatures? They have this stuff called paint that comes in bottles and you can apply it with a really effective tool called a brush.

The armies are growing strong...and you already had big armies.

Yes and I really really need to spend some time making them pretty colours!
I have been so stuck on trying to get all of the stuff I have in the closet assembled that I keep ending up with more grey and silver
I think it may be time to buckle down with the airbrush and slam colour down on every model I own! Especially those poor poor neglected Tau!
I keep buying troops to make the armies that I have more competetive, but I seriously have to stop! And for the most part have!
..... well except for the fact that I somehow ended up with 20 traitor guard torsos that are trying to tempt me into putting togeather a 1500pt guard army.....

Well, having just poured over the whe of this I gotta say what a great blog you've got here! I totally recognise a kindred spirit in the obsessive building of stuff stakes - now where'd that Warhound get to? - and I also know the whole craziness of return to the hobby post-evil ex (I should add my wife of the ladt 6 years is very supportive of my toy habit however, mostly cos it keeps me out of trouble and away from musical theatre). I really do have a building stuff obsession... SOmething about keeping my hands busy makes me just a litte more sane .... If only I knew what the word sane actually meant
The warhound.... Now that's a seperate issue entirely...
It was on the books to do some work on it the last time I was at home but all of my warhound time got taken up by adding 2 shelving units to my games room and moving everything all over!
On the plus side I have gained piles of room!
I think the Warhound is once again very close to the top of the list... hrmmm maybe I should make an actual list.....

I've ordered everything I need for a 1500pt traitor guard army to compliment my forces of chaos ...

Your new camera seems to have boosted the quality of your shoots considerably - I approve!
You have a mind bogglingly large amount of armies there, mate! I also envy the size of your gaming room, nice to see that getting rid of one's wife has it's own rewards (joke)
Are you slowly working on building up the details of the Aurora Chapter i.e. base coating all of them then detailing all of them?
Keep the battle reps coming by the way, muchos fun!
36934
Post by: logg_frogg
Haha! yeah the camera was a muuuuch needed upgrade!
Once I build myself a light box things will get one step better but that's not really on the short list.
Yes, I plan on using my aurora chapter as a testing ground for my airbrushing skills.
I'm setting up to do then with airbrush shading, washes, weathering powders and a few brush painted details.
I may even delve into the realm of OSL ! But that might be a stretch

I made a decision today that my traitor guard army will be Based in a snow theme, similar to the plan for my Tau.
I just ordered a pile of very nice looking resin *snow* bases from Dart Art Miniatures.
Sexy stuff indeed!
22619

Certainly seems competitive. Saddle up, etc. Are you going to play with gw's basing paint snow at all? Also, btw, Ifalba did some amazing snow effects on commission puppies recently, worth checking out her blog for.

Post by: logg_frogg
Funny story, I was just reading her Blog
I'm not sure about the basing snow, I haven't had a chance to see any of the new range at all yet because I have been at work in the middle of nowhere for the last 2 weeks.
I was planning on using a combination of water effects, baking soda and GW snow flock. I will have to do some experimenting on terrian before I do it on bases

SO just a quick update for today as I don't have a lot of my pictures from the last 2 weeks uploaded yet.
I got some fun stuff in the mal when I got home!
I also did a little bit of digging in my ultrasonic cleaner... I need to get on this and get the rest of my nids togeather!
I finished moving my Chaos over to the new shelves I bought. This is what it looked like 2 weeks ago:
I also fired up the old airbrush to try and get rid of some more of the grey on my shelves
The paint booth I bought off of ebay is a freaking life saver! It takes 100% of the paint particles out of the room!
I sprayed a bunch of aurora chapter
Then I went on a mission to change this:
To this:
I then went on a bit of an adventure in paint land.
I decided I really liked this colour from the new paint line and wanted to spray it on my pink horrors.
The challenge being that this is from the new *dry paint* line.
My first attempt at thinning left it clumpy and unsprayable.
I found not only that this paint was very pigment heavy but the medium that i sused to make it is gel like. Even after adding a ton of airbrush medium to it it still looked like this
I ended up having to thin it about 10:1 to make it sprayable.
I did on the other hand get some pretty good results once I did!
On a side note... I also found out that trying to spray *shade* (washes) is a bad idea. You get a nice even coat, but none of the wash effect as it tends to dry evenly and not seep into recesses as when brushed.
Once I upload some more pics I'll update again! Thanks for looking guys!

The next step up has variable frequencies. This one has adjustable temps (warning: 130 degree purple power is to hot, it pits the plastic) and can be set 5 min - 1 hour. ~95 degrees for an hour and it just falls off.
The problem I had with the other one was it wasn't sealed. The simplegreen vapors melted the glue bonds and shorted it out.

Post by: logg_frogg
wow! thats a good price for that!

A few more updates today as I was able to upload some more pics last night.
I took a few pictures of a model that I thought looked awesome when I painted it 15 years ago
I was going for a coming out of camouflage look but looking at it now it could def use to have some details picked out.
I also did some work on my traitor guard. I decided to use the *renegade enforcers* as my sgt.'s and vet's
But I had to fill in the gaping arm gaps with some GS in order to fit standard arms.
 \
Typically for a lot of my GS shaping I have been using this as a tool.
I like using a wooden tool as keeping it moist in water means it doesn;t stick to GS. also you can easily carve it into any shape you need.
Inadvertantly while installing the flag pole through the hands of my standard bearer he aquired a mean looking beating stick!
and then shortly traded it out for a nice little banner... something about it being too heavy!
I picked up this model a while back with full intention of converting him to a CSM Sorc of Nurgle but I didn;t ever think he was the right fit once I saw it in person.
He will however make an excellent addition to my traitor guard!
Once I got all the arms sorted and glued on my guard I based them in a light grey and started trying to get a colour scheme down
I decided on a grey/white/black camo pattern and white acessories.
I blocked out the colours then used a thinned down wash to pick out the low points.
It doesn;t look like much right now but it will lokk a lot cooler once I have picked out the highlights and make the white look white again.
On a side note I picked up an 0.2 airbrush to try out (Iwata knock off for $10 on ebay)
here it is beside my eastwood brush
I also bought a couple more of these quick conncetors
They make changing out airbrushes and cleaning airbrushes super easy! The biggest advantage is that you don't have to crank down your regulator or turn off your compressor when disconnecting your brush as they will keep pressure in your supply line. They also provide a pivot point for your line so it won't get tangled
That's it for now!
Thanks for looking!

Looks cool. I totally get the idea of weathered white for traitor guard in fact exactly what I'd intended myself if ever gone that route. Consider shading with purple/brown inks for a worm-flesh look perhaps? Just my 0.02 (pennies, not cents!)

So I got the last few pictures uploaded....
I built a second soul grinder for my chaos daemons army:
I picked up this little thing on ebay nice and cheap for larger coverage spraying projects:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/362466-.html
I also started messing around a bit with the foam cutter that I bought a while back
Here is what it looks like freshly cut
Then a quick pull of the of the offcut and.....
Turned out pretty damn good! ... So I did a whole pile of pre cut pieces that I had!
And remeber Kids! Always wear a respirator and work in a well ventilated area when cutting foam!
..... The sad thing is even after 10 years I can still taste the tear gas in that thing
And right before I left for work I got the best present in the world in the mail!

I brought the whole stack of stuff to work with me and have been working on them in the evenings!

Hey Logg, just caught up w/ your thread and have to say that I really noticed the cleanup / reorg you did for your modeling space. I just did something similar and it's a great feeling.
That 2nd Ed Lictor looks just fine. I've converted one of mine into a Tyranid Prime for my ridiculous Genestearler-only Tyranid list. I either get stomped w/o mercy or I ravage and rend my opponents into little tiny bits. Not much middle ground w/ that force.
New addditions to your Traitor Guard are looking great! Looking forward to some paint

Thanks for the drop in Skalk!
Yeah the cleanup felt totally awesome ! It's so organised down there now it's disgusting
That sounds like a neat conversion Most of my Bugs are 2nd ed so he fits the bill I Looove genestealer armies!
I found that Tervigon's compliment them quite well as they add a lot of fodder and some big targets to draw fire.
Sadly I must report that I literally got absolutely nothing done on any of my mini's in the lat 2 weeks. Between spring vacationing and Diablo 3 all of my time went away way too quickly!. I also failed to bring models to work with me this time so it will be 2 more weeks before I can even play with a Mini >.< .

I'm still building my IG Hydra Flak Tanks and have also been working on some FW dreads and cleaning up some little things that I have pushed out into the distance in my overbuying spree of the last year!

They are a bastard of a model to assemble but they seem to be well worth it gameplay wise

6th Ed fixed a lot of the general rules enough that Chaos already has more options (meaning it is a bit more level for us vs. everyone else) and w/ the Codex coming soon you can bet things are going to become awesome!

2 x venomthrope
2x FW Black Legion Dred
2x Hydra Flak tank

More previews tonight after I get the body assembled Automatically Appended Next Post: As promised here is my progress so far on the first of 2 projects.
I took some of these very nice track parts
And started to fit them up to the baneblade chassis
I ended up having to trim off all of the stock *alignment tabs* to get things to fit nicely, but not a huge deal. I also ended up taking one *link* out of the track on the main flat for slightly better fitment
After minimal fussing and messing around here is hte final product
Can you see where I screwed up?
How bout now?
As with all resin conversion kits I have ever worked with there is always some fine trimming and fitting to get things to fit nice and tight!
Has anybody figured out what I am building yet??
And how bout now, can you see what I screwed up now?
Thankfully an easy fix as the glue had not completely welded it together yet

eep.... time for a mid model cleaning! Limited desk space = no room for mess!
And now on to more trimming

I will have to pull them all out ans see what I actually have left over. basically the whole top half of the tank from what I can tell.
If they don't end up being another superheavy for my army they could very easily end up as part of an ork model for my brother's army.
That project however will stay in the background for a bit

I agree. I really need to start painting up squads of dudes and just getting them out of the way one block at a time.
On a different note I did make quite a lot of progress last night
I got the second track built
There are a few joints that I am going to have to GS but In general the track kit was excellent. Nothing a small amount of mud won't hide
I washed all of the resin parts and started gluing stuff on like crazy
The back end
Once I got the main body permanently glued it was time to fit the cannons again

So I got quite a bit of work done yesterday again.
I assembled the basic Baneblade chassis and then went after the first section of the tower.
It took a little bit of figuring out to get started but there are several alignment grooves and everything slid togeather smoothly in the end.
And somewhere in the middle of this I managed to glue my entire left hand..... I still don;'t know where the glue was leaking out. it's almost as though I squeezed an entire tube of glue into my hand >.<
Shortly after this I quit and went to bed
SOme of the mould release is being stubborn on these parts so I may be cleaning them again today

Post by: logg_frogg
haha yes! Idoes not at all look like a practical war machine. I can picture piles of bloodletters dancing around on the upper platform throwing things at people . Other than being a good vantage point/shooting platform it seems a lot more ornamental than anything lol.
Here is the work I did last night:
I did the final wash on all the remaining parts
And then I installed the side sponsons
I just realized right now that the skulls on top are going to make the track install tonight a bit of a pain in the ass lol.
Hopefully tonight I finish the tracks and finish fitting up the rear motor panel. That panel, unlike everything else in this kit, does not fit worth a damn... It's about 1/8" too wide and requires pretty intricate trimming to be fit up.
2 more nights to work on this then back home for 2 weeks

Nothing like a little precision razor sawing to start the night off right
I had to trin about 2mm off of each side of the rear *engine piece* and then re-notch some of the cut outs to get it to fit up. I really can't complain because this was the only part of the whole model that fit funny and it was exactly the same on both tanks.
The I put my tank on my handy dandy track assembly stand to clear the turrets while I worked.
Don't mind the *glue weathering* I had a little bit of leakage from behind the side panels over night. I'm just happy it didn't glue itself to my desk!
Second time around I even got fancy and pre-bent two of my track parts (while they were hot after washing) to make assembly nice and smooth
It's starting to look complete
That exhaust just screams badass
Only one more track to go..... And oddly enough only 1 more sleep before I get on a plane and fly home for 2 weeks
I should be done this later tonight Then It's time to pack it up and bring it back to the shop for final wash and to maybe lay down a base coat.

I just thought it was a good place to pour the blood of the followers of the false emperor
I started trying to chase the weathered white look I am going for and I think I found some success with it
I don't have a picture of the base coat but it was done in a grey that is very close to the colour of GW plastic.
First coat, light grey to pick up highlights and build up to white
Then a coat of light brown to show weathering on the lower half of the tank
and then I built the whole model up to white
(eep I may have to clean up that overlap it looks terrible)
I'm pretty pleased overall with the look but am thinking of building the white up on the top sides a little more. What do you guys think?
Once I feel happy with it I'll be moving on to damage and weathering

There is no demon flesh whatsoever on the main body of this model. It is all bundles of cable and the odd skull mixed in.
The armor plates on the other hand would have to be modified in some way to look more ad-mech.
With a little GS or plasticard it would be quite easy to make this look very ad-mechy Sounds like a fun project!

I have some pretty heavy fittign to do tonight but the pile is getting smaller !
I also forgot to post this up yesterday. Just a quick snap of my bitz box
Thanks for hanging out!

Getting there! Please tell me you're gonna paint the inside before gluing it? I know from experience its a mofo-ing pita to paint when its all glued.
I love that model, the detail is so awesome and its chaosy to the extreme. I think my favourite is the princeps tbh.

haha! Yes! Don;t worry!
As with my other warhound I will be leaving the top 1/2 modular until the interior is detailed
My other model just fits so tightly that the pieces stay togeather with no glue
Once I have them both assembled and primes I will be starting on the interior detail and then weathering the body's

Haha yes, but I sadly don't see a reaver titan or anything else larger in my future >.<
I would much rather have a Thunderhawk.
I promised myself once my army was painted I would buy myself one .... I guess I had better get painting!

Note to self: Ask Father Mechanicus to supply a company of Shadowswords to the Cadian 11th for Christmas.
...cause Chaos needs its knees whacked.

Work work work all night long, work work work while I sing this song....
I trimmed and fit up the upper body. I still have some sanding to do here on a few parts but it fit nice and tightly
Tightly enough in fact to give everyone a little preview of what this bad boy will look like
Here are a few shots with the head in place. I won;t be connecting it yet as I need to pin it and do not have my pin vice and pins with me at work
Unfortunately the ol' girl needs to stay at this level of assembly until I get some paint on her. Hopefully I can get to that this week when I get home
Heavy artillery anyone? (minus one Plasma weapon that is at home )
When I get home I have to Work on the arm connections
I have a pretty good plan to make them modular but I need to put some work in Automatically Appended Next Post: It looks like somehow I have managed to forget to post up this picture from last weekend as well:
hrmm... I'm slackin'

Lovign everything. You need to do a full army shot at this apoc game!
And no models The only cure is to buy more i guess.
Also, sorry to be a pain, but do you reckon you could measure how high a decimator is?

Haha! I have many mor emodels to build I just have none for the moment with me while I am stuck at work
I will take a ruler back to my room with me tonight and do a scale shot for you.
They stand about an inch taller than a dreadnaught
haha yes! I am long overdue for an army shot!.... I just haven't done it because I'm embarrased about the lack of paint on my army
